- 0:01Can I help you, sir? My god, you greasy mister Marouka help.
- 0:10Mom's gonna kill you. If she didn't want a car run, she
- 0:14should have done a better job hiding her keys. Four finger Discount, dude,
- 0:34Welcome to fourfing are Discount, where this week we joined today by the
- 0:37one and know, the Tom Liberatory of the Western Boodogs in Australian rules footballer.
- 0:41It was a hell of a good time. It wasn't dat a very
- 0:43good time. He's dando on guy, you knew that. But yes,
- 0:46we were joined by Libert. Yes, Tom Liberatoria, not the liberal for
- 0:51the nineties, liver of the what we call these liver of the twenty tens,
- 0:54of the of the twenty twenties, nearly halfway through. He's the Libert
- 0:59to my son general, and his dad was libert to my generation. Yes,
- 1:02And what's my generation have to do with I don't know, I don't
- 1:06know, but basically Tom, they had an invented football. Yeah. Tom
- 1:10is known to Simpsons fans, particularly in Australia, of course, because we
- 1:11foll Ozzie rules that he has the Simpsons tattoos, and he has a lot
- 1:15more than I realized because I thought, I thought he look at Bart Sinson
- 1:19one somewhere. But he's got the iconic one that everyone knows about is the
- 1:22You're so greasy playing on that, you know, as he talks about in
- 1:25the podcast why he got the oh You're so greasy tattoos. But he's got
- 1:27squeaky voice teen on one arm and Homer on the other arm, and together
- 1:30they are a mighty force. But that's not all because yeah, I mean,
- 1:34as Dana said, we were surprised that he we knew he had some
- 1:37ink, but he's got a lot of Simpsons, inc And for fans of
- 1:42Talk and Seinfeld, he also has a very special secret tattoo that you will
- 1:46hear about when we fold in our liberatory content into this episode. But you're
- 1:52also getting a lot of dandel On guard this time. I love that you
- 1:53say Libertory. By the way, what I call what you said libertory,
- 1:57it's libertore libertoree. But no, he was a fantastic guest to have.
- 2:05We very much enjoy talking him, not just about about a lot of the
- 2:08dance, but also about various other things going on in his life, from
- 2:13from football to post football, being a dad, dad, and being a
- 2:16well son of a footballer as well. So yeah, and I had briefly
- 2:21something to talk. But basically he said that he's going to get a new
- 2:23tattoo, and we gave him some suggestions. So I'm interested to see whether
- 2:27he actually takes one of our suggestions. That'd be pretty cool, that would
- 2:29be very cool. But that's coming up in just a few moments. The
- 2:32way this episode is going to be going down is we chatted with Liber about
- 2:36the episode and just about his sort of career and his love with the Simpsons.
- 2:38And then following that, you're going to hear guy and I go full
- 2:40in depth with the review because he was limited with time liber because he's got
- 2:44his training. The footy season starts what next week, even though when we
- 2:47caught up with him he was lying on a hotel bed eating fruit. You
- 2:53know you got to do that? Yes, exactly right, all right,
- 2:55So thank you guys for tuning into this week. Should I forget support us,
- 2:59I'm Patreon. Want to get early and ad free access to the show.
- 3:01You can get already now. My chat with the one and only Michael
- 3:06Hamphlet from What Culture Wrestling. We reviewed the episode of the Old Man and
- 3:09the least because that is the only episode of The Simpsons that we were aware
- 3:13of that includes an actual professional wrestler. And the little tidbit here Brett the
- 3:16Hitman Heart. Do you know Brett the hit Man Heart. I'm aware of
- 3:20him. Yes, Okay, see he was on the episode, right,
- 3:23and it's weird because you're watching this like it can tell us Brett Hart,
- 3:25but he's not really being Brett Hart and we realized we found out with our
- 3:29research that he was brought in just to be generic wrestler A and then they
- 3:34realized, oh, this guy's actually famous. It's like he's the WWF champion.
- 3:37We should maybe use this. So that's why Brett Hart wasn't being Brett
- 3:42hart ish. But he still looked like Brett Hart in the episode because I
- 3:44went back and reanimated him and everything like that. But this is of course,
- 3:46we're talking about Lart of the Dance today with Tom Libertore. That's gonna
- 3:50be coming up right now and after that guy and I will be doing our
- 3:53full in depth b user stay tune for that as well. But thank you
- 3:54all again for your support and enjoy our chat with Tom Libertore as you join
- 4:04us. You are as we just described off, laying in eating apple very
- 4:09hard preseason training at the Bulldogs this year, it seems yeah, definitely.
- 4:12I can't remember which episode is what I'm trying to think of. When someone's
- 4:15getting fed fruit in the chair, is that thinking of the robot from Futurama?
- 4:20Nah, someone's getting please getting is getting fired? Doesn't he homles?
- 4:26Maybe? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I feel like house pre
- 4:29season going anyway? All good? Uh? Yeah, yeah, look good,
- 4:31all going well? Maybe two weeks ago and we're done into the games
- 4:35about so yeah, almost finished? Thank good? Is the little man Oscar?
- 4:41Is he old enough to appreciate that Dad's an AFL player yet sort of?
- 4:46He sort of understands that I'm going to play football if that makes sense,
- 4:48or going to do that. He doesn't really know much else, and
- 4:51I'll play for the Bulldogs. He's sort of been in the club a little
- 4:56bit, but I sort of the extend it, I guess. Yeah.
- 4:58Is he too young to be introduced to the world of the Simpsons? Tom
- 5:01No, never. As soon as he was born, I had to go
- 5:06pro facing the other way episodes. It's funny when I show my kids now
- 5:13I feel like I failed as a father because they want to watch the new
- 5:15ones and not the old ones because it looks shinier and new and HD,
- 5:17No, the old ones. That's what you've got to be watching. Correct,
- 5:20Correct? How old are oh? My kids five? And the other
- 5:24one's three? Okay, yes, stars, still not at all. But
- 5:30now for our overseas listeners who may not be aware, Tom Here is one
- 5:32of the stars of the AFL, as he mentioned, players for the Western
- 5:35Bulldogs. He was part of the twenty sixteen Premiership team. However, his
- 5:39father is also one of the most iconic Bulldogs players of all time. Much
- 5:43like my man Guy Here, his father was the one on the legendary Bobby
- 5:46Davis. So you got that in common. Yeah, Unfortunately that is where
- 5:48our palts diverged on because you became a champion footballer and I'm here talking about
- 5:53the Simpsons actor this guy. That's all. It was just you know,
- 5:58it was just vocal. Never know I might have a very late innings,
- 6:00comeback and start my AFL career at the age of fifty four. Yeah,
- 6:04it was always fine, was about sixty, that's right now, not only
- 6:14your great football obviously, but many Simpsons fans know you as the football who
- 6:17has the iconic Homer Squeaky Voice Team. Oh my god, you're greasy tattoos.
- 6:21We might as well kick off with those. When did you get them?
- 6:24Where'd you get them? Whose idea was it? Tell us all about
- 6:27it? And was it the first tattoo you ever got? Nah? No,
- 6:30it was very late in the peace. I got the start of twenty
- 6:32nine acause I've got my first tattoo, which is a portrait of Cramer from
- 6:38Swinefeld or more left bum Cheek, which so except for except for my closest
- 6:46loved ones, yes, the right people, yep, of course. Yeah,
- 6:48I can't make any cruage now if forgot that one, maybe when I
- 6:56was like twenty one, twenty thirteen, fourteen, yep, cot of thing.
- 7:00And then yeah, I got the I think I saw so, I
- 7:02saw a photo of Krusty Burger symbol and I don't know his name. He's
- 7:09just called Squeaky Voice Team. I think they have named him, but he's
- 7:11just known to most fans of Squeaky Voice Team. Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 7:14so yeah, mister Simpson, what are you doing? Yes, that's
- 7:17pretty good sort of then like mixed in because of because I'm Italian, we
- 7:23sort of you know, we got called greedy. So then I yeah,
- 7:28I just sorted to get home on the other so the matching set, Yeah,
- 7:31I've got them staying time and yes, just one of his sort of
- 7:33favorite episodes because yeah, it takes out of time, which is funny.
- 7:40So Paul Luigi at the end, Yeah terrible. Yeah, that's I was
- 7:43just gonna say, yeah, yeah, yeah, the voice when he rocks
- 7:46up and they're all fight with Grace and he brings peaces. What are your
- 7:51earliest memories of The Simpsons? Can you remember when you like sort of first
- 7:54saw the show. Yeah, I was like, probably was earlies. My
- 7:57older brother used to watch it, so yeah, sort of mid maybe like
- 8:01when I was sort of six seven, two thousand thousand and one, No
- 8:03two sort of thing. OK, and that's when I was sort of getting
- 8:05suck into six o'clock Simpsons, six thirties neighbors. Yeah. Then we begged
- 8:11dad to get Fox eight because we could just watch it every Sunday Sunday Super
- 8:13Simpsons Weekends. They were the best, weren't they? And Fox eight plus
- 8:16two so we can watched it again two hours later. Yeah, it was
- 8:22around and that was like saving and I think around there. So yeah,
- 8:24how good are the memories are sitting there on that TV six o'clock weekn that's
- 8:28fighting over the TV because my one and dad wanted to watch the six o'clock
- 8:30news, but you wanted to watch the Simpsons. Yeah no, there's no
- 8:33way, no, that never went that far because me and my older brother
- 8:35and my little sisters was and then mom and dads. So it's three v
- 8:39too. We'd win. Now, Tom, you've got the you've got the
- 8:43Simpsons tattoos. You've got the top secret Kramer tattoo on the on the rear
- 8:48end. We here at the fourthing of Discay Network. Of course you will
- 8:50do the Simpsons show. We also do a Seinfeld show. If you've got
- 8:54a South Park tattoo somewhere on your body, mate, we've got the trifecta
- 8:56here. Sadly no, ye, who else is immortalized on your in ink
- 9:03on your body there? Mate? Or what else have you got from Simpsons?
- 9:07You've got more Simpsons? Have you? Uh? Yeah, I've got
- 9:09hete forgot, I've got the stone cutters on your bath in the spot.
- 9:13Ye, I've got so crusty Yeah, Oh my good. Yeah, what
- 9:20the hell was that? Yeah, somewhere there is that the Stone's logo above
- 9:30her. Yeah, sort of something else. But you've got a rag on
- 9:33a stick. Oh wow, just the actual rag. That's great. Have
- 9:37you got the howl fish as well? Holy ship? We got it's just
- 9:41vapel. I did not realize you had that many. Yes, we're very
- 9:46sad. Maybe one more Simpsons. No, all done by the same artist
- 9:54tom Or you're going the various parlors around the way to getting to Ye.
- 10:00There's one main guy who's probably done about sixty seven of them. To Mickey
- 10:03G's from my Screaming Studios. There's a couple of ones. There's a couple
- 10:05of sticking those crusty in the Selma's a sticking post. So you're you're a
- 10:11Selmer guy. I'm more of a missus K kind of guy. Yeah right,
- 10:15Yeah, that's probably fair enough. Depends with you after. I guess
- 10:16I gotta think the missover. I think she's a bit of a dark horse
- 10:20Margins mate, Ruth Powers. Yeah, Ruth, she's up for something.
- 10:28Are there any other Simpsons like Simpsons fans in footy? Do you know anything
- 10:31as much as what you are or you just known in the league is like
- 10:35the Simpsons guy. No, no, I'm not. I mean I'm I
- 10:37wouldn't say with fraud, but I'll be like maybe in the top ten percent
- 10:43fifteen percent, there's blokes probably top ten of the club. But there's like
- 10:46Jack and Cray, Anthony Scott. Yeah, I just haven't read watching them
- 10:50for all. I'll be up there for sure, but yeah, just busy
- 10:54in the way. But no, there's certainly there's certainly Jack McCray and in
- 11:00John will probably the two with our top pile that I'll play this about other
- 11:03clubs. But yeah, Johnny, I think I think he's the next man
- 11:07to get on his quoting abilities. I've never seen. Is there any ever
- 11:13any Simpsons sledging? Yeah, we throw a few Darryl's out there, throw
- 11:20that around training for a bit. I guess he throws your own forwards when
- 11:24they miss, when they shake it from straight in front right, Yeah,
- 11:26yeah, they can take it professionals. Yeah, Jack pretty quickly will be
- 11:31the best sledges ever been throwing your way that you can remember, Not not
- 11:35Simpsons, just best sledge can you remember any Nothing really stands out, it's
- 11:39all pretty. Yeah, there's a few from the crowd, but no nothing.
- 11:43I don't know, like maybe early days when was younger, but not
- 11:46too much. Everyone's pretty that's pretty cares. Yeah, it seems like everyone's
- 11:50not soft, but it's like everyone's just careful now of what they say in
- 11:52foot Do you think like one we're all like we're not overly clever. There's
- 12:00no one who I don't know, everyone's too tired as well these days.
- 12:03Who going? But I mean Sworny gave me a little bit early on,
- 12:07like just around around the old man and stuff like that. But yeah,
- 12:09did you get the standard ship tatoos? Blah blah, all that all that
- 12:13stuff. Can we talk a bit about the Liberatory dynasty? Tell us a
- 12:16bit about any motivation, any drive that your father sort of gave you when
- 12:22you're growing up, both physically and and maybe mentally and in terms of you
- 12:26wanting to play footy. Was there pressure on from from you or from anyone
- 12:30even outside the family, not inside. It's like, I think the reason
- 12:33why I'll pursued it so heavily and how much I enjoyed training and stuff like
- 12:39that because he was extremely hands off, Like you didn't he didn't push me
- 12:41at all, like we just had that. We just had fun all the
- 12:43time. He always encouraged me to play, and he played with me growing
- 12:48up. But yeah, it wasn't like starting back and to one hundred touches
- 12:50and you can't eat in that sort of thing. Wasn't that regard or all
- 12:58that. Son, Well, older brother and mum pushed me pretty hard,
- 13:01and I got to be older because I was getting good at it. But
- 13:05no, that's crazy. He just sort of kicked back and just let me
- 13:07enjoy it. I remember your dad being well every opposition support his favorite Bulldogs
- 13:11player at the times, like Dougie Hawkens and Tony LIBERTOI like liber that he
- 13:15was always a favorite. And I remember the memory of watching you guys win
- 13:18the flag and they kept cutting to him in the crowd. He just seemed
- 13:20like you're just having the time of his life. It was like it was
- 13:22great to see him getting to sort of be a part of it as well.
- 13:24Yeah, for sure, that whole final series. I remember watching we
- 13:28rewatched the games and seeing his head on TV and he's he's just when he
- 13:33went fully balled too, So he was like a bulging light in the crowd
- 13:37that he couldn't avoid it. But no, that was great. Yeah,
- 13:41it was cool to have him in the rooms. And that's the game as
- 13:43well. That must have been a real dumb or whammy back in twenty sixteen
- 13:46as well, by winning the premiership with your old man looking on, but
- 13:48also breaking what a six decade drought. Yeah, yeah, that was crazy.
- 13:52Yeah, it's pretty special, especially with the supporters in the suburban and
- 13:56that kind of stuff. There was those footage of Maine streets and seven was
- 13:58sort of off Blakes kicking the ball around the square, hotels shut off.
- 14:03I was just packed with people, just crowdsurfing and stuff like that. And
- 14:05let's talk about the pubs that you own. Did you own those when you
- 14:09or your coin when you won the flag or is it after that? No?
- 14:13No, as well after that? Okay, do you still get a
- 14:15free parmey? Who mentioned your name there? Yeah, but I'll struggle these
- 14:18days, so that's only my name. But with with with a lot of
- 14:24the dance. Look, what are your favorite memories of this episode? Obviously
- 14:28you got the tattoo, so he said it's one of your favorites. Look,
- 14:28what are the standout moments for you? I don't know if you remember
- 14:33how old you guys are. I don't know if you remember those that were
- 14:35just books offered like kids books. But I had the episodes in those books.
- 14:37I've got one right next to me here again the episode guys, How
- 14:39good were they? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, that was pretty much why
- 14:43that picture of him as his eyes popping out, so like that sort of
- 14:46started the whole sort of fascination with it all. Yeah, yeah, when
- 14:50he's when he's talking about that he's from North Kilktown and to put it back
- 14:56and Willie and goes, you know, there's no angel North. It's just
- 15:01one of my favorite Homer b plots, just the whole you know, of
- 15:05course with Grease, you know, you think he's going to be, you
- 15:05know, financially independent investing. What is it as opposed to saving savings and
- 15:13wise investments? When he gets beaten up all the Grease boys and they take
- 15:16the shovel off them as well, that's more shovels we run shove. We're
- 15:22a similar age, a similar age you and I did you win growing up?
- 15:24Obviously six PM week nights and things like that, but did you collect
- 15:28like the Simpsons tasos that used to get in the packets and that kind of
- 15:30shit. Or were you just a fan of watching it? No? I
- 15:33was more. Oh yeah briefly, but I was just more. I think
- 15:37I was watching the More about Us. Yeah. Was there stickers too?
- 15:39Yeah, there's stickers. I was everything, mate, it was the Simpsons.
- 15:41Yeah, it's true. That's a dope question. No, I was
- 15:46either watching Simpsons or out of the backyard places for Yeah, when you stopped
- 15:50watching it? Was it about season ten? That seems to be the cutoff
- 15:52for most people. I stop watching it. I've always doing this. I
- 15:56was upstairs in my well. My brother had the upstairs part. Is the
- 16:00oldest all cool sluff in his own area, you know, watching the three
- 16:03hundredth episode. Yeah, the Tony Hawk episode. After that, I was
- 16:07like, this is rubbish. It might have been after Yeah, it was
- 16:11around that time and I started going a bit dan Hill for me. I
- 16:15seen I was said thirteen. Maybe that would have been about thirteen fourteen.
- 16:19I reckon this year about then. Did you ever see the Simpsons movie though?
- 16:22When it came out? Yeah, I was. We made more best
- 16:26mate. We had a camp. We had a countdown because Emson Messenger back
- 16:29then gotta love it day after school trying to find a girlfriend. Yeah,
- 16:33but we had a campdown on an Emson messenger for I think a year of
- 16:38old days. We Yeah, when we got to the got to the final
- 16:42lot of the dance and it was it wasn't great. I remember just yeah,
- 16:45walking out going. I guess I liked it because it was the Simpsons,
- 16:48but I don't think it was that good. Yeah, I felt empty
- 16:52inside or half well, my child my childhood officially over. Tom would like
- 16:57to ask about writing if I could give a bit of a stint study and
- 17:00creative writing an r M I t according to Wikipedia, which never lies to
- 17:04us. But reading a bit about your background in there, it's like,
- 17:07look, as someone who spent their twenties reading, you know, Fear and
- 17:11Loathing in Las Vegas and naked lunch and watching bar flights, like, oh
- 17:15yep, it scans. This sounds like the kind of stuff that you that
- 17:18you're into when you're in your twenties. I mean, are you still writing
- 17:22it all? You're still sort of got a bit of an interested or yeah,
- 17:26definitely, I just want to do it personally. Mental health these days,
- 17:32journal most mornings, most nights, sort of thing, but then also
- 17:34sort of right my own. I just like writting short stories or short little
- 17:38average poems. But yeah, nothing special, to be honest, but yeah,
- 17:41I just enjoyed sort of my own and sort of very well being,
- 17:45which is yeah, it was great and reading as well. So I did.
- 17:48I did. I did do the course for three years, I reckon,
- 17:52and I just couldn't. I couldn't, couldn't keep up with the clientele.
- 17:56And there that how many years do you think you've got left? Like
- 18:00you'd be what at least another three or four? You reckon? Yeah,
- 18:07I was thinking of same, and he's like, remember I told you but
- 18:12episode but now I don't know. Maybe like I've got this year signed up,
- 18:15but probably too two I'm thinking too minute, Yeah, two to three
- 18:21on that and then post footage, you've got social work you want to get
- 18:23into, right, Yeah, yeah, so I'm just about to start.
- 18:26I'm just about to start a diplombing in youth work. Yeah that's great.
- 18:30The next few weeks, Yeah, that'll be hopefully yeah, hopefully timent timement
- 18:36for yeah, retirement and properly proper job. Yeah, what sort of form
- 18:40would that take? That kind of social work? I mean, what do
- 18:41you see yourself? How do you see yourself doing it? You see yourself
- 18:45executing it besides just showing Simpsons episodes to the kids all day. Yeah,
- 18:48yeah, I'm gonna have to extend. Just remember, don't do what Donnie
- 18:52don't does. That's all we have to say. Yeah, I'd love to
- 18:55go on new camping trips. Run Now. I've been doing a bit of
- 18:59place here and there through the Footy Club so as as a foundation, talking
- 19:03the new foundation through the Dogs, so they do a lot of work in
- 19:06the Western Tubers area out the mountain sort of thing with troubled Juice or diversity
- 19:11and that kind of stuff. So I've done placements through there over the last
- 19:14of the year and a year or two. So I'll probably just go through
- 19:15them. Well before we let you go, obviously, we're here to talk
- 19:18about Loud of the Dance. This one was a leaser episode and when I
- 19:21was going out and about you. When I was growing up, I hated
- 19:22least episodes. I thought they were boring. Well she just shut up.
- 19:26But the other I got, the more I appreciated, and I realized I
- 19:27was more likely than I actually realized. Do you find that when you watched
- 19:30those episodes when you're older and you still just not like them because no one
- 19:33liked them when they were a kid. Really. I watched it again last
- 19:36night. I was like, I sort of understand, I do know what
- 19:38you mean, but yeah, I'll still find it a bit a bit hard
- 19:41to take. Tom's like, this is the Homer episode. I don't know
- 19:44what you're talking about. Yeah, there was a thing where she was talking
- 19:48to Alex Yeah, lis Coudro, Yeah, Alex, yeah, yeah.
- 19:53Yeah. She's like, I don't just want to play like kids, and
- 19:56you know we can't. I sort of I appreciate that. So we can't
- 20:00just not bathe for three days or whatever. Yeah, that kind of stuff.
- 20:03So I did, I did. I can definitely that sort of thing.
- 20:07I found. I watched the show a bit differently now and now being
- 20:10a parent, I just seem to appreciate that the kid moments like the parenting
- 20:14moments a lot more. Do you find that now when you watch episodes like
- 20:15the Maggie makes three to do it for her and that kind of stuff?
- 20:18Do you find out when now being a dad that that hits you harder?
- 20:22Yeah? I don't think I've watched it enough since I've since I've had he's
- 20:26almost forced. Yeah, yes, probably, Yeah, maybe I'll put it
- 20:30down to the list. Yes, it's hard to catch up with the episodes
- 20:33now. It's just because obviously when you got kids that are are always running
- 20:36around. But yeah, it's just I find I rarely watched The Simpsons unless
- 20:40I'm doing it for the reviews. Now. It's weird because I used to
- 20:41watch it so much when I was a kid. It was like three four
- 20:44times a day. Now just never watch it. Yeah, pretty soon I
- 20:48think, Yeah, I found I didn't want to. When we play night
- 20:51games, we pretty much got the whole days to do all. So I've
- 20:55got after we get up, but no one has to be the ground to
- 20:59I don't know, five pm or whatever. So really that's good. Yeah,
- 21:02I started slowly like chipping away back at Sinton, so as in just
- 21:04because that's going to do. Really, you can't go out and exercise or
- 21:08a few beers, never just kick back and fine, that might be the
- 21:12project and we can reconvene in twelve months. Yes, let's do that.
- 21:15Yeah, have you watched any of the new episodes? I want only I
- 21:18only hear your thoughts. Next time on the new episodes of the Simpsons.
- 21:22If there's any if there's any space left on your body, would you get
- 21:26one more Simpsons tattoo? And if so, what would it be a very
- 21:30good question where there's a there's there's a tattoo parlet next door to our hotel
- 21:34at the moment, I walked into yesterday and I was candy to walking this
- 21:38afternoon. So maybe you should if you suggest something, can you give us
- 21:42maybe you know, rot down right, give us three suggestions? You would
- 21:47you wouldn'tdare get die Bart dying the chest? Would you? Maybe? In
- 21:49German? Angry Dad like the anger that that's that's post like he's the hero
- 21:56though, that's like season thirteen fourteen, think of like who's your favorite character?
- 22:00Though? Is it more like the side characters? Have you got a
- 22:03mot What about flaming mole or something? I was thinking about mo, Yeah,
- 22:06but I was I gott to apply some all them again. Yeah,
- 22:11that'd be a good one. Bowl of flaming cereal. I think that'd be
- 22:15Goodah, the bowl of flaming cereal. That's good one. Mister Burns is
- 22:17an x Foles character. Oh that's perfect. Yes, and see they can
- 22:21make a glide in the dark as well. Yeah, that's actually nice white
- 22:25ones. But yeah, there you go, already got look forward to watching
- 22:30you play footing and see what you got. What are you gonna get it
- 22:32done so I can look out for it, look for maybe like on on
- 22:34here on all right, we'll do that, do it on Instagram live for
- 22:40us. Yes, all right, well we do appreciate your time. Time.
- 22:41That's what next toime. Thanks safe Tom, and we'll have you sometime
- 22:45in the in the future where we talk about some new episodes. Try to
- 22:47get let's do it. Sounds good? All right, talk to you soon.
- 22:51Thank you all the best for our season twenty twenty four. Thank you,
- 22:53enjoy it. Go CAATs. What an absolute legend, mister Davis,
- 23:03Mister liberatory is good libert libertaure, Yes, absolutely leg I'm really excited to
- 23:08see what our taboo he gets. I hope he gets. I hope get
- 23:11one of their suggestions that'd be so cool, would be me, wouldn't I
- 23:14think we gave him. We threw in a few good ones. Your bowl
- 23:15of cereal on fire is a good a good one because he's got the rag
- 23:18on a stick. But it's just the rag on a stick. It's not
- 23:21bad, it's just the rag. So he's not he's not going. He's
- 23:25going with some deep cuts. Yeah, you'd have to sort of take one
- 23:26too. Oh okay then yeah, yeah, maybe the Lenny of the Box
- 23:30of Special K there'd be another one. But he seems like he's pretty keen
- 23:33on the mister Burns as an alien. That would be a good one.
- 23:36And if I don't know about tattoo technology, whether you could make it so
- 23:40it actually does sort of glow be something you can do. Surely, I'm
- 23:42sure it would be quite toxic and poisonous system. Well to the episode,
- 23:45he's radio radioactive and also worth it. That's worth it. Indeed. All
- 23:49right, let's talk about lart of the dance. So, mister Davis,
- 23:52what were your thoughts on the episode, because you know, Libert was saying
- 23:55that he didn't like the leasta aspect of this, although he can appreciate certain
- 23:59elements. But I thought overall that there's a really good message here when you're
- 24:03a kid and kids, Yeah, let kids be kids, but if you
- 24:04are a kid, enjoy being a kid as well. I say this to
- 24:07Alley all the time, mate, don't He's always like, I want to
- 24:10grow up. You don't want to grow growing up straight, but enjoy this
- 24:14time. It's a tough one to hear when you're a kid, because you
- 24:17know, you're getting this advice from from grants and like, what do you
- 24:21know about being a kid or what do you know about being younger? Do
- 24:23you even remember? Uh? And yeah, Were's like, oh no,
- 24:26you've got to really relish this moment of being carefree and able to do anything
- 24:33with there. Of course, there are going to be consequences, but you
- 24:34know, just have fun, you know, and don't be in such a
- 24:38hurry to grow up. But yeah, certainly when you're a kid, and
- 24:41certainly when you're i mean, Lisa is not quite there, but you're approaching
- 24:45the od the on ramp to adolescents, it's like, let's hurry this up,
- 24:48shall we know? Being an adult looks kind of cool. Yeah,
- 24:52but no, you really do want to say to it, like, oh
- 24:55really, it's just relish this time, just revel in it. So yeah,
- 24:59look you're write it and it being a really important and valid message.
- 25:03It's funny, I think you know, when we were chatting with Tom,
- 25:04we were sort of jokingly said calling this at least episodes a Homer episode.
- 25:08It really is sort of split right down the middle and right down to the
- 25:11title as well. Yeah that's true. Yeah, well what a b plot
- 25:15though. One of the most iconic schemes of all time, right, I
- 25:18think the I think puts it over. Everyone remembers the I scene that freaked
- 25:22me out when I was a kid. I had forgotten that that was kind
- 25:25of like the payoff because I was actually just giggling when his face is right
- 25:27in the middle of this suction hose. I'm like, that's pretty funny.
- 25:30And then it pulls out is just got this awful distended, bloodshot eye.
- 25:33That's marvelous. Yeah. No, it's a really good plot. I mean
- 25:37a really good B plot, you're right, and a really good plot by
- 25:40home. It just to as always get rich quick. Apparently it really happened.
- 25:44One of the writers of the episode, Jace rich Richdale, who was
- 25:47a formn producer and writer. He read in a magazine that song God caught
- 25:49stealing Greece to try and profit. All right, so this really happened.
- 25:53And I think they're the best schemes where it's like they take something happened in
- 25:56real life, but they simpsonize it and just make it ridiculous. I love
- 26:00the the acne grease. Oh yeah, later Actne Greece and Shovel. I
- 26:03love how they must have how that is that's really good. But I mean,
- 26:07yeah, like I said, Tom's like, oh, I just love
- 26:10him doing these get rich, get rich quick schemes, and Marge's some offering
- 26:15up ideas that are slightly less ridiculous. Also, American friends, please do
- 26:19learn how to pronounce in you. It's right up there with the Caribbean and
- 26:23aluminum caramel and carmel. Oh my god, Carmels will sets you off.
- 26:29It's triggering. It's so triggering. Carmel is not guy safe. Yeah,
- 26:36but Homan to say, oh it's the most fagina rich saving and wise investments
- 26:41is like, oh no, it's totally through savings and wise investments. Of
- 26:45course with Greece it's so awesome step back and oh god, it's definitely just
- 26:49that simple. Of course with Greece, I must admit I want to sort
- 26:56of go on about guys Keto, Die Journey or that much, but cooking
- 27:00break bacon, especially for the grease, that's the Keto life in a nutshell,
- 27:04because you know, you're told in all the cookers like cook stuff in
- 27:07bacon grease, it's good. Really, I don't know six different cook books
- 27:12will tell you six different Okay, I look at the bacon grease cent pork
- 27:17anymore, but ill looking at it, I'm just like yuck. You know,
- 27:19if you leave the pan and it just dries up or thickens, you're
- 27:23like, oh my, oh yeah, it's legitimately greasy. Yeah, and
- 27:27look, one day my heart is going to explode during my daily walk.
- 27:30But up until then it's like, yeah, you'd be rich. That's correct.
- 27:33Well, I'm leaving the Lovely Luise all my grease in my will.
- 27:38What do you think of Lisa Kudrow and this? I thought she did a
- 27:41great job with Alex. She was really good. She sounded like Lisa Kudrou,
- 27:44but like a kid at Lisa Kudro is really weird. How I love
- 27:47the ones where you can sort of talll it somebody you can't quite tell who
- 27:49it is. I've always been of a mind that all the Friends cast is
- 27:52great, and all the Friends cast is great together. It's a legitimately good
- 27:56ensemble of people who work and spark of each other, so well, they've
- 28:00only had two on the shows. She's the anyone that had an actual proper
- 28:03role, and then Matthew Perry did that. Could I be anymore of a
- 28:04house? That's right, that's the only two. But it's weird how the
- 28:07other ones didn't come onto the show. That's true. Yeah, but I
- 28:10mean I always thought that Lisa Goodro was probably the best actor of actress.
- 28:14Yeah. Yeah, they're all charismatic, they're all really entertaining. I think
- 28:17David Twimm is a lot better actor than he's given credit for. I think
- 28:18a lot of people sort of go, oh, he's Russ and he sucks,
- 28:22whereas like, no, I think he's actually pretty good. There was
- 28:26a lovely, lovely tribute the other day from Tom Selleck, who of course
- 28:29peered on friends as Richard and he was torn. Man, I love how
- 28:34they all just melted around tom Selleck. Yeah, just thought, oh my
- 28:38god, this is the platonic ideal of a man. But he was saying
- 28:41they were all great, but Perry was the best of the bunch, and
- 28:45he can now that we review it for the podcast, Nicola and I watch
- 28:48it and I go he's just a level above like I said, I mean,
- 28:51yeah, what not long after he does it that he was just like
- 28:52a Swiss watch or that's like a machine built in a lab to do sitcom
- 28:56comred percent. And there's certain moments where you go he was like the start
- 29:00of the scene, then you read and he improvised. He's that wasn't even
- 29:03in the script. He just did it on the spot, and he like
- 29:04he made the scene iconic even though it wasn't in the script. You know,
- 29:07yeah, but enough of it, I mean enough bet friends, this
- 29:11is friends related. Well that's right, But I did want to say as
- 29:14well. Over at Low Zealand, it was sort of flicking between channels and
- 29:15FOXTL to get to the get to the news and had a little time to
- 29:19kill and the show Blue Bloods was on. You know blue blood I do
- 29:22not know. It's like sounds like a blue Healer's kind of show. Well
- 29:26it's cops. Yeah, it's it's a reality though, no, no,
- 29:29no, it's a it's a scripted drama. And Tom Selley plays like the
- 29:33patriarch of this family Cops and Tom ultra modern show, modern show. Tom.
- 29:37He's not nearly eighty, he's like seventy eight. Years old. But
- 29:40I'm looking at him in this guy. I remember you was magnum dude,
- 29:42when did you you know Wilford Brimley is yes, yeah, he looks like
- 29:45Wilford Brimley. Now he's like when did Tom Selly become Wilford Brimley because he's
- 29:49not a big sort of bushy mustag's a look a little heavier and but Jowley
- 29:52and it's kind of like, oh, you're gonna start talking about dabeus.
- 29:56It's like, oh, man, father Time's coming. Frost All it sucks.
- 30:00Yeah, But Lisa Kudrou in this, yeah, it just really really
- 30:03good. I mean you're right, I mean that whole I hadn't really considered
- 30:07how Yeah, it's undeniably and identifiably Lisa Kudro. She's got a very distinctive
- 30:14voice and delivery style. But also yeah, she's playing it as like a
- 30:17kid, yeah, but also not a grown up kid, but you know,
- 30:19a kid who's a little bit more advanced than you know, the first
- 30:22kid to have the self. That's what I liked about Alex was that like
- 30:26she came across a bit pompous but also endearing because you can tell she's not
- 30:29actually pompous. She's just a kid trying to act smarter and older than what
- 30:33she is. And by the end of it, Lisa not It doesn't break
- 30:34her down, but she makes her realize, oh shut up and just have
- 30:37fun. She's like, oh yeah, actually, yeah, okay, Well
- 30:38that's the thing. I mean. Do they say where Alex came from and
- 30:41they come from back East or something like that, they may have Yeah,
- 30:44she's probably from you, like some big city or whatever where you know,
- 30:47they do move a little bit faster and all the kids have mobile phones and
- 30:49cool handbags and spray themselves with a bit of Calvin Client's what's the I didn't
- 30:56Ditribua a favorite moment of this one, but like, what was the start
- 30:57of a p pretend? Pretension? Attention, Yes, that's pretensions and do
- 31:03you well, did you have any favorite moments? I didn't take them for
- 31:04this one. We'll talk, let's see. My mind was just the one
- 31:08that we already discussed, of course with Greece and Willie, just like freshening
- 31:15up in the in the kitchen and just my retirement, Grease, it's so
- 31:18absurd, this story my retirement, Grease. I like that you saw Nelson
- 31:25sort of being this leberry fishnado. I've never eritten a huckleberry in my life.
- 31:27What they taste? No, I was just a huckleberry hound. It's
- 31:32huckleberry hand, isn't it. That's sure? Because because he's on the Simpsons
- 31:36in the behind the laughter, it's like I was so gay, remember that
- 31:38find the laugh time. We always thought it was snaggle Puss. It was
- 31:41super but it out to be huer. Just some some really good side gags
- 31:45and one liners, like back to schooliosis. I thought that was a thought
- 31:49that was pretty good. What's one in relevant? Because Alliott starts school next
- 31:52Monday. Oh my god, I've just started doing something. It's weird now
- 31:56because when I was a kid, you used to have to go, you
- 31:59know, back to school, go do some shopping for some pencils and things
- 32:00like that. Maybe because he's prepping, I don't know, but they send
- 32:02him home like a pack. It's got all the texters and all the glue
- 32:06sticks and all the pencils. But then they said to us, I don't
- 32:08agree and tell me if I'm wrong, right, can we tell me if
- 32:10I'm weird? And so don't write his name on it because all the stuff
- 32:13gets shared in the classroom, so no one. I was like, I
- 32:15think every kid should have their own ship. Oh yeah, I don't don't
- 32:19write their names on there because you know, other kids, because they might
- 32:21leave it at school and another that'll become another kids and they'll just take each
- 32:23other's ones home. And I'm like, or we could just fucking give them
- 32:27things and teach him to look after them, tea to look after this ship,
- 32:30because just because you know, things go missing and the kids get upset.
- 32:31And I was like, well, that's part of school. Yeah,
- 32:35that's part of resilience. Kids learn, kids lose shit. This is just
- 32:40something that happens in life. We eventually lose our minds. I don't remind
- 32:45me, but yeah, it's also a good lesson and like, keep an
- 32:47eye on your stuff. You know, if your mate needs a pencil,
- 32:51lend it to them. Yeah, Nicola, can't you personalize that? We
- 32:53don't personalize that. The readers and the fault And I'm like, that was
- 32:57some of the fun of school, or personalizing all your ship. That personalized
- 33:00things anymore. You know, you'd get your you'd get your pencils, and
- 33:01you'd shave a little bit off the off hand of it and write davish.
- 33:06Yeah. I just love doing it. Yeah, and I can't personalize anything
- 33:08anymore. I said to Nickel, I give it a week. This sounds
- 33:12downright communist. Yeah, I give it a week and he'll be personalizing everything.
- 33:15Look, I don't thoroughly disliked the idea because look, encouraging sharing is
- 33:19a good thing. Yeah, and encouraging sort of. But the idea of
- 33:22sharing is this was mine, but I'll let you use it. Yeah,
- 33:24that's sharing, not oh you can have it because we're all using the same
- 33:27thing. Yeah. Look, I understand that schools are probably under resource these
- 33:30days, but I think you should maybe have a bunch of shit put aside
- 33:34as either, Like that's the communal pencil box. If you've lost your pencil,
- 33:37go get one down there. And we had that when I went to
- 33:39school. We'll go to the lost and found. I don't know, I
- 33:43just I just thought that buying the pens and stuff. And I was like,
- 33:46ah, I'm miss doing it because I send him home with a pack
- 33:49and I like, this is everything's gonna need this year. Don't personalize it.
- 33:52I was like, you can't tell me what to do. Yeah,
- 33:53No, I love personalizing, and I also just loved getting because you wrote
- 33:58your name on Luise, didn't you. I certainly property off. There was
- 34:02a branding iron Cold but no way New Year. You know when you get
- 34:10the readers, like the folders, and you get like the wrapping and you
- 34:14sort of like stick it over. I was like, what are we gonna
- 34:15have? This Year's like foiled and special? Yeah, so yeah, that
- 34:20was a That was a favorite thing, largest homemade pepsi. For some reason,
- 34:23that reminded me of my childhood because I'm just like, that was us.
- 34:25Everything was homemade, and I was like, you know, it's a
- 34:28little thick, but the price is right, And I'm like when I was
- 34:30a kid, I was like, but now look at I'm like, I
- 34:31see the logic you saving money were true? Yeah, we only need to
- 34:36save money these days. Although I did try l a ice cola once and
- 34:37I was like, I can see why it's cheap. Correct, Well that's
- 34:44why the answer is nothing like the real thing. Yeah, I think that.
- 34:49I think that was one of my favorite bits and pieces. Let's just
- 34:52get into our review, shall we head trivia questions? With that? He
- 34:54asked me for one trivia question me pick your best one. Okay, how
- 34:58do you pronounce Libertaire? What month was the calendar at the recycling plant.
- 35:08I'm gonna say they start, so there's somethings they were doing, so they
- 35:13start on September. No, what if you're normally talking about a playboy playmate,
- 35:17you say miss what what? What's the first one that comes to mind
- 35:21when you say it? I don't know Miss November. It's Miss March for
- 35:24some reason. I never I always think it's Miss March. I never what
- 35:29the school start because they have summer break. Yeah, when they came back
- 35:32to school, I thought school started the school time started in Well, here's
- 35:36a nit we can pick. Maybe they're not coming back from summer holidays.
- 35:39It's just like the it feels like start of the school year. It does,
- 35:45doesn't it. Yeah? Maybe that maybe Miss March was just so hot.
- 35:49They was like, forget it, we don't need to know what day.
- 35:52He's living in the past, correct As I just did that review of
- 35:55Old and the Lisa and as the guy that he'd be there and he's like,
- 35:58you're living in the past. Man. All right, let's get into
- 36:00a review of the episode. So it originally and August twenty third, nineteen
- 36:04ninety eight. Written by j O'Brien and directed by Dominic Paul Sino. The
- 36:08episode kicks off with Homer and Lisa at the Try and Save with Margin Bartney
- 36:12gathering school supplies. Lisa just wants various types of paper. She's in heaven
- 36:15right now and but just want that he can use to course my hand with
- 36:19as would I be. I'm sorry, I'm a sucker. Not when you
- 36:21were eight, though, I was a big fan of like exercise books.
- 36:27Yeah, okay, it's like, oh that's a good one. Yeah.
- 36:30How long did it take before you gave up? Because you always try to
- 36:32keep it really tidy and then got to a point where you're like, you
- 36:35fucked up a line, like ah, just mess things up. Now I
- 36:37can draw scribbles in the cover and things like that. Yeah, it didn't
- 36:39take long. Although, as I've gotten older and I know a lot of
- 36:44writers and quote unquote creative types who were like this. You buy a notebook
- 36:47or like, oh, I'm gonna do some great journaling in this, and
- 36:50you're like great journaling. You get five pages and it's like, oh,
- 36:52my thoughts are so boring. I found that really interesting with Tom saying that
- 36:57he's creative writing is now his own personal diary. Yeah. I was like,
- 37:00I'm not gonna ask any more questions. This seems quite personal, but
- 37:02like that's cool. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah, journaling and morning pages and
- 37:06all that kind of stuff. It's good for your mental health. One thing
- 37:08I've never done is keep a diary, and I kind of wish I did,
- 37:12you know, because lots sort of a record of like the kid's life
- 37:14growing up like this, the kids did this today, would have been nice
- 37:16to look back and go, I remember when that happened. Because when you're
- 37:19a dad mate getting no sleep, you honestly say, you say to me,
- 37:22now, what did you do yesterday? I'd have to think that's how
- 37:23bad my shot to memory is. Now what did you do yesterday? I
- 37:27have to think he's not lying. I actually can't remember what day it was.
- 37:32Yesterday? Was it Wednesday? No? Tuesday? Wednesday? Yesterday was
- 37:37Tuesdays. It's because I got up at like five o'clock this morning to talk
- 37:39with Michael. I'm not even a parent. I've got no excuse what day
- 37:43it is anyway, But yes, tries to have gathering school supplies and millhouse.
- 37:46Then sees Lisa tries to be cool glue in the Haird'm not sure they
- 37:49ever worked. Was that sort of drinkness? Was like a Winter's ninety eight.
- 37:52There's something that Mary hadn't come out yet, had it? Lisa?
- 37:55Stay cool? Millie? Oh hi, Lisa, did you have a nice
- 38:05summer? Don't you hate that we have to go back to stupid school tomorrow.
- 38:09I like school me too. We have so much in common. You
- 38:15had a panguine to your calic. If you don't like it, it's gone.
- 38:22You want this? No, you've just given me a very vivid flashback
- 38:27of just you know, I love it when Corman was just the pure out
- 38:29of nowhere. Oh yeah, the week with the fortnight leading up for the
- 38:32new school year. This is a very old school kind of thing to talk
- 38:36about. But you had a crush on Well certainly, but you'd see them
- 38:38outside of school. It's like we're both shopping for school shoes. I mean
- 38:44because back in Geelong before we had the big department store Mark. It's the
- 38:46same now, mate, school shoes from the same place. Okay, well
- 38:50that yeah, I mean this was the case. But you know, oh
- 38:52you're getting shoes, so wow, what a coink. You didn't you have
- 38:53so much in common? What do you say? Six? So do you
- 38:59have a good sum But there was that thing where I can't really remember actually
- 39:05talking to them, but like, you're right, you'd sort of or you'd
- 39:07be just thinking in your head, we're gonna fall in love. It's gonna
- 39:08happen, It's gonna happen. This this is the year. I remember there
- 39:12was a girl that's primary school. Her it was Jade, and I loved
- 39:15her. And then one of my best friends started going out and she was
- 39:17his girlfriend. I was like, is she really going out? Yeah?
- 39:23But you know, oh, he's sort of like, oh, should I
- 39:25approach them now? It was like you sort of feel more grown up if
- 39:29you're not seeing them in school. Yeah, And I was like, get
- 39:31away from my daughter. Who is this man you're talking about last week?
- 39:37Right? That's correct? All right, enough about my embarrassing history. But
- 39:44yeah, So Milhouse makes a fool of himself here and Homer is now the
- 39:47cookie Mart. I've always liked the idea of the Quikie Mart having its own
- 39:52stuff, like the cookie dog, you know, such as the hot dog.
- 39:53It's Quikie Dog. He's branding everything. So he's getting his regular homies,
- 39:57got the bubble Gumpsaguar, the Quokie Dog and six Success Magazine. It's
- 40:00not really a gag there, like, Okay, well, I guess I's
- 40:04sort of planting this the idea of what he wants to become a further himself.
- 40:07Yeah, so Success Magazine. He's cleaned out the machine. So now
- 40:09the quicker dogs don't sound taste any good because they haven't been soaking in their
- 40:14pretty grease we giness. We can taste, yes, So I was going
- 40:20to ask this to Tom obviously, but we didn't get around to it.
- 40:22What's your idea of a perfect greasy meal. Oh, it's usually fried chicken,
- 40:25fried chicken. Yeah, I'm probably a fried chicken burger. Yeah,
- 40:29it's gonna have chips on the side of chicken, salt, bit of aoli
- 40:31to dip them in. Not so much about dipping the chips, you know,
- 40:36dippy chips. Oh, sometimes I do. My go to fried chicken
- 40:38meal is from the Hot Chicken Project here in Geelong. You love your tenders.
- 40:43Friend of the pod is We did to make them an actual friend of
- 40:45the pot because we mentioned them so often. We do and always complimentary.
- 40:50Yeah, because they do great chicken. I've never had chicken from there,
- 40:52ever, it's pretty good. It's quite good. If you can do a
- 40:55tast test on the podcast and say, all right, guys, hit u
- 40:58up with some free chicken, I'll talk about how great much, how much
- 41:00I love it on the show. All right, Well, once I've dropped
- 41:01ten kilos and I'm not afraid of raw, how much do you want to
- 41:05lose? Fifteen kilos? How much you lost five already? About that?
- 41:09Cool? Yeah, yeah, you know me, I can't weigh myself.
- 41:12It's just my mental well, that's thing I'm not. I'm not weighing myself
- 41:15frequently. Obviously. I've just got the barometer shirt. I know myself that
- 41:19if I went in and weigh myself right now, I'd be obsessed with my
- 41:21weight for the next six months. So just believe me, man, it
- 41:24is what it is. But no, it would be yeah, man.
- 41:28Three fried chicken tendis medium to regular hot fries on the side, and they
- 41:34give you a nice slice of white bread and some pickles, so they spice
- 41:37them up for you as well. They they can spice them up, you
- 41:39can go. I think they've got so damn hot as the hottest. I
- 41:43always love the idea of the ring Stinger pizza from Pizzas of Attitude. What
- 41:45a name, I know, right, it reminds me of my name,
- 41:49because my name used to always get the ring Stinger pizza with extra halipinos because
- 41:53she loves things really, really hot. And she said that's the only pizza
- 41:57where she felt like she was eating something actually hot. She's the ring Stingers
- 42:00reminds me of Na What a lady? Yes, yeah, so yeah,
- 42:06that's my favorite greasy meal. And you you're going for chicken burgies, I'm
- 42:08gonna go with like if we're going for fast food places, it's a double
- 42:13tender beer from KFC with some chips on the side and some tenders as well.
- 42:15I mean getting a fresh macas burger. And I mean, I know
- 42:20they say, oh, we make them fresh and all that, but you
- 42:22know those occasions you get one, it's like, oh, you man,
- 42:24you are fresh off the grilla. Yeah, and you could buns of warm
- 42:27still yeah literally holding it's like, oh, you're so greasy. But my
- 42:30idea is like a perfect greasy meal. My favorite is a chicken soup lkey
- 42:35with extra chicken of course, and garlic sauce. What sauce do you have
- 42:37on your soup? Hikes? Chilian garlic, Chilian garlic. Okay, yeah,
- 42:42I'm not a big not much of a spice man, but garlics might
- 42:44go to But I used to love fish and chips on a Sunday night after
- 42:45a weekend of drinking. Yeah, fish and chips, can you think of
- 42:51it? I haven't had chips this year yet. Got I've gone off deep
- 42:53fried stuff. I miss it. I missed those chips. So we've been
- 42:58making it. I finally learned how to use the every air fryer, and
- 43:00I'm like, this is great. It's healthy. It's not quite no no,
- 43:06and look elemented and look. In the name of full disclosure, I'm
- 43:09sort of dropping keto and saying I'm trying to lose weight now. I did
- 43:13a fish and chips on Sunday. It was good. It was good actually,
- 43:15But at the same time, this is so good that I'm like,
- 43:17I've got to have this all the time. It's like you're allowed one cheat
- 43:21meal a month. That's the way it works, mate, You're gotta treat
- 43:24yourself sometimes. It's indeed, Yeah, did you enjoy it? Though?
- 43:27I did. Yeah. The thing is, though, when you've gone off
- 43:30for so long, you built up in your mind. I can't wait for
- 43:31this. I'm gonna treat myself. It's never quite as good as you remember.
- 43:35It's just like I don't know, but yeah, I really want chips.
- 43:38That's my dad's birthday. Today's happy birth it's my dad. And I
- 43:40was like, do you want to have takeaway? I'll shout and you was
- 43:43like, nah, I'm going out with your mum. I'm like, fair
- 43:45enough. Well that's what he wrote. I tried to nice enough anyway.
- 43:53So yeah, the episode, he's at the QUICKI Mart. He's got the
- 43:57greasy foods. But then Homer thinks he's gonna be rich because he arteries are
- 44:00filled with clogged with grease. And then he starts cooking bacon just to get
- 44:02the grease, as you were mentioning earlier, has made the dog all sick.
- 44:06I love it looks like he's ready for another squeeze. And that side
- 44:10of bacon was from my Bridge game tonight March. If you don't mind,
- 44:15I'm a little busy right now, achieving financial independence with Kens of Greece No
- 44:20through stavings and wise investments of course with Reeds. My Mike, the bus
- 44:25is here. Where do you think you're going? It's the first day of
- 44:30school. Not for you, it isn't you're in the grease business now.
- 44:34I did kind of feel sorry for Barton's episode though, Barcelo let to go
- 44:37to school. Yeah, it is right, is sad because the first day
- 44:38of school you're gonna miss the firs day of school. That's when he says,
- 44:42here, so this is I thought they started school in September? Do
- 44:44they not? I think so because we started at the side of the start
- 44:47of the year because we end our summer holidays. Yeah, who knows,
- 44:51who knows, It doesn't matter, but yes, but it's a bit sad.
- 44:53He's going to miss out on going to school, which is weird,
- 44:57but he's in the grease business. Now. We're now at the school and
- 45:00they're all going talking about there some a vacation. That was one of the
- 45:01drags of like back to school. It's like, don't do anything interesting enough,
- 45:06Like everyone's like, I shaid Homer played video games, I got sun
- 45:10burnt. This is where Lisa is asked, oh, he Skinner wants someone
- 45:14for a volunteer for a thankless chore, and Lisa's the one puts her hand
- 45:16up and it's two. Guide the new student Alex around the school. Now.
- 45:20She says the line here, which I liked, don't be such a
- 45:22phoebe as a kid. That was straight over my head. Yeah, but
- 45:24that's a nice little that's the reference there, by the way, Alex Whitney,
- 45:28very intimidating name, very cool girl name. Mike Whitney not as intimidating.
- 45:32Absolutely not to know unless he was walking up to you, saying,
- 45:36I mean I always wish to be on Who Days Wins. Whenever I used
- 45:37to go to town, I'd be like, one day's gonna be there offering
- 45:40me fifty bucks. Put my head into a bucket of like fish cuts.
- 45:43You know, did you ever watch Who Dads Wins? I'm aware of it,
- 45:45and not think I may have watched one or two episodes. She was,
- 45:50yeah, Yeah, Mike Whitney, he was a cricketer, right,
- 45:52he was, Yeah, And also the judge or the referee for Gladiators in
- 45:55the nineties, Gladiators. Are you ready? Do you realize there's new Gladiators
- 45:59on? I think it sort of came and went pretty quickly. Yeah,
- 46:01I don't think anymore. I was like, well, Vulcan's not on it,
- 46:05so I ain't watching true. It was a good Netflix stocko about the
- 46:07American Glady. I've watched it yet. It looks awesome. Though. It's
- 46:09really good, an't they like royed it up and just like fucking everyone and
- 46:14pretty much Yeah. Yeah, but there's there's a bit of the end involving
- 46:19you're going to spoil something, you know, I'm just going to say there's
- 46:21a bit at the end involving a contestant that's all like where are they now?
- 46:24Or you know what happened post Gladiators And he sort of drops his line
- 46:28that literally made my jaw drop. I'm like, what you did? What?
- 46:31So did? What? With? Who? In where? But Lisa
- 46:37here, she's she's into kids stuff and doles and playing jacks and she's a
- 46:42kid though. That's why she's into kids stuff. Although it's kind of odd
- 46:45that it's like Lisa is usually the one that's more mature kids. Yeah,
- 46:49and suddenly she has friends at school, Like she takes her friends away.
- 46:52When when is Lisa ever hanging out with the kids. Yeah, we're sharing
- 46:54terry. Yeah, it's also a little bit of a disconnect that she's sort
- 46:59of talking about these very childish things but almost in a kind of an adult
- 47:01fashion. It's like, well, you gonna want to get yours up a
- 47:04good doll and all this kind of bit. It's like, I get where
- 47:07you're coming from, and that's the joke. But at the same time,
- 47:10it's like, Yeah, if I was being talked to like this by another
- 47:15sort of eight year I'll be like, what, what's your fucking story?
- 47:17Do you think? It's a case of Lisa. She's I don't know,
- 47:21like she's all she's got elements of Alex in her where she tries to act
- 47:24older than her what she actually is. Yes, but she still wants to
- 47:28be like the smartest kid as opposed to a young adult. This is a
- 47:30I don't know if it's even that finer distinction, but the thinction I'm drawing
- 47:34my head is that Lisa has grown up, Alex is mature. That's how
- 47:37they're presenting anyway. Yeah, I mean Lisa presents like an adult and Alex
- 47:42present is like someone who's fifteen or sixteen. I do like the trophy case
- 47:45ruse as well for cleaning belief, but she takes her to the to the
- 47:51caffeteria and she says, can new girl sit with us? And she's a
- 47:52little weird, but just give her a chance, and she immediately wins them
- 47:55over with her cell phone and everything doesn't pan bag. I did love the
- 47:59gay that who twins? Which one's the evil one? It didn't day,
- 48:04didn't it? Yeah, so Alex will use just a second hello. Oh
- 48:12yeah, like i'd be seen with a Discover card. You have a cell
- 48:15phone and a purse. That's it. Don't be shy now, maybe a
- 48:22little joke to break the ice for a big joke. Careful now, nobody
- 48:30likes to show off. Where are they going? Hey? Wait up?
- 48:38They left without me. Lisa, I've got an next to your seat,
- 48:45and you've got an extra lunch. Catch my drift Millhouse, lower those eyebrows
- 48:52and the other one. I know it's supposed to sort of Oh, it's
- 48:58not that Lisa's looking at for it, But it also I felt kind of
- 49:00patron idea, didn't It almost puts you off side a little bit everyone.
- 49:05When she says that she's a little weird, but just give her a chance,
- 49:07it's like you're better than her. But Milhouse tries to sweep in lower
- 49:09those eyebrows, and the other one that's that's not one of those iconic moments.
- 49:14I forgot which episode it was in, and Lisa is sad. Here
- 49:16we come back for commercial, Lisa's telling the family that they did her at
- 49:20school. Master jests they want you to do a surprise party, or maybe
- 49:22they're playing a surprise party for you. She drinks aste tea. Have you
- 49:28ever did you have a moment in your life where you didn't like somebody and
- 49:30they do something which isn't that bad, but you just didn't it made you
- 49:34dislike them even more, even though it's not even that big of a deal
- 49:37like this one. Here she drinks asty tea, which is sort of a
- 49:38big deal, but because she didn't know she doesn't like her, it's sort
- 49:42of like makes it seem what it is. Yeah, I know what you're
- 49:44talking about, and I'm sure it's happened. I'm struggling to think of like
- 49:46specific There's like people also like maybe you work with and I say, oh,
- 49:50he says this, and everyone's like I like him, and I'm like,
- 49:52how can you like it? And usually because they've said they'll mispronounced liberatory
- 49:58or something like or Indian. It's like it's just the little things that really
- 50:05get under your skin and then really burrow under your Skin's like, oh god,
- 50:08it's so harmless. But it's like, now he's on a drawboard.
- 50:12Homer says, you need to copy her in every way. I always great
- 50:14with the life advice. What would Alex say? And Alix arrives with the
- 50:17friends the next day. She apologizes, tries to give us some ear rings,
- 50:21but they're for pierced ears, and Lisa is just not ready for pierced
- 50:23ears. Maybe you can put them money. Doll I was like, oh
- 50:25oh that's about oh Caddy, And yeah, sure you'll be ready someday.
- 50:30This is where Skinner asked Lisa to run the Apple pic, and Alex's got
- 50:34a different idea. She wants to do the school dance correct, which Lisa
- 50:37obviously eventually agrees. Then we've got Simpson and Son Grease co. Yeah,
- 50:42have we skipped where they first go to the grease company. You're not to
- 50:45grease company or whatever it else? Oh yeah we have yes, home makes
- 50:46sixty three cents from Greece. Ye give over that sorry? Yeah, yeah,
- 50:50yeah, you're right, So Homer, Yeah, he makes sixty three
- 50:51cents from grease. The bacon cost twenty seven dollars. You mum paid for
- 50:53that. Yeah, but when she gets money from you and I give my
- 50:57money from grease, what's the problem. I don't look like that. It's
- 51:00like, soon we'll be earning paper money. Yes, we need to expand
- 51:05our operation. But yeahs under that scene there. But so I'm realizing that
- 51:09he's going to be dedicating his life now to this this new scheme. From
- 51:13home. But they're driving past the school, but it's looking out the window
- 51:15quite sad, and they ripping crusty burger. Look at that red headed kid.
- 51:17It must be twenty dollars worth of grease on his forehead alone. I
- 51:22was thinking more of the deep briar. All right, that's right, you're
- 51:24did you have acne when you were younger? Terrible acne? Like I'm talking
- 51:29my big terrible actu. I wouldn't want to leave the house. That's funny.
- 51:31Lou and I were actually talking about this the other day, and I
- 51:34think both of us sort of dodged a bullet. I mean I had the
- 51:36odd pimple here and there, but never Yeah, never terrible acne or anything
- 51:39like that. You always get the recurring ones in like certain spots. I'd
- 51:44one that will always come up on like my yeah, on my phone here
- 51:46all the time cause like land the bed. Yeah, I put my hand
- 51:50next to my face like that and it's to go greasy and in him my
- 51:52nose. I used to get in my life. Oh yeah, there was
- 51:54one. I don't get the one. And it's like when you're at school
- 51:58and everyone tries to cheating normally, You're like, you know there, but
- 52:00if everyone's treating you normally, you sort of forget they're there. Well,
- 52:02stuff is one. It was like on my eye here on the side of
- 52:05my nose, and I could see it as like blocking my vision is that
- 52:07big. I just remember going to school and I'm like, oh, everyone's
- 52:09like being nice, but I know they're all looking at my acne, like
- 52:13as a teenager. You know, you're fifteen at school and he's got faithful
- 52:15acne. That's not the worst, but like suck, you learned to grow
- 52:20thick skin. But like I always say, like, you know, it's
- 52:22easy to say, no one cares. I get I've been there, you
- 52:27know I get it. It fucking sucks. Oh, but there's people you
- 52:30get look at people who have actual issues, whether it they can't walk or
- 52:32they can't hear, things like that, and it's like, this is pretty
- 52:36small potatoes and what are you worried about? But I can still as a
- 52:37fifteen year old, it feels like it's the worst thing in the world.
- 52:40It really would, even though it's not correct. But Simpson in sun Grease
- 52:45cour Yeah, I just love that this is create his business. But the
- 52:47my god, you're crazy. As a kid, I didn't really appreciate this
- 52:52scene enough, but now now I'm just like, holy shit, this is
- 52:53amazing. They put the grease in the car. If you mum did woman
- 52:57her car rules shouldn't done a bit ch of a hunting her keys. And
- 53:00then the grease is stolen by acne grease and as it turns out, and
- 53:02shovel cove. We want the shovel. That's just such a Swart Spolder thing
- 53:08to me, like that kind of that's a real classic Simpsons gag is we
- 53:13want the shovel racket as well. The girls all arrive at the More for
- 53:17some party supplies, Like why they're still hanging out with Lisa. It's just
- 53:20we're seeing Lisa with friends. It makes the story flow. But yeah,
- 53:23but she's always a loner, that's correct. Yeah, it's an odd one.
- 53:28But I didn't thought about until just now. But we've got Dingo Junction.
- 53:30That's where that's the hot place of all the cool clothes. So Dingo
- 53:34Junction, that's the name of the game. Dash Dingo's the video game that
- 53:37Lisa plays when she's skipping school pretending she's six because she gets it did play
- 53:40Dash Dingo and that was the same Dingo in the Lego expanded its operation Dingo
- 53:45Junction. What a name? Yeah, I know, right, But they're
- 53:49gonna look ahead, ahead of their age by adding some accessories, some lip
- 53:52glass, possibly dropped five pounds. They're gonna look good for their date.
- 53:54And Lisa's like, I don't want what do you mean? What is hello?
- 53:58Stop saying hello? And the DM y don't mess yourself. Lisa says,
- 54:04she just wants to be a kid. Hello, And she realizes I've
- 54:07lost them. Homer is now sad he's been muscled out of the business as
- 54:09well as the muscle for higher business. And Marsha is just a new scheme,
- 54:15a crazy scheme. Raising em I say, Emmy EMU farm, but
- 54:20suggests wanted me to do one last big score and I like that that's what
- 54:22I want to do. That's why you're here, and he laughs at Marge's
- 54:24emy farm idea. Now that is then discussing huckleberries. It is an odd
- 54:29thing, isn't it? Like you never go back to canned but then least
- 54:32then arrives. This obviously wasn't what they're going for, but I've got it
- 54:36kind of makes sense. She's looking like Sandy in Greece the Grease episode.
- 54:42Very clever. Dan. It's not obviously what they're going for, but just
- 54:45reminding because the kids a watching Greece all the time at the moment and I'm
- 54:47watching, I'm like, isn't that great of a movie? Not really.
- 54:51I loved when I was greet when I was younger, and like the songs
- 54:52are great, but I'm like everything in between is kind of ain't not suitable
- 54:55for kids and be kind of weird. The line the chicks cream and I'm
- 55:00like, I heard my mum sing it a lot with the kids the other
- 55:01day. She's like singing Grease lightly. I was like, it's so weird.
- 55:05Yeah, we're just sang it. The chicks are creamy, and I'm
- 55:07like, yeah, it's a real pussy wagon. Yeah, holy moment.
- 55:09Yeah. I mean, but this stuff in there, you know, that's
- 55:12a tit and you're like, whoa, holy moly, calm down, Danny
- 55:17Zuko. Yeah, and all that stuff about it. Tell me more,
- 55:20Tell me did she put up the faith? All this kind of business.
- 55:22But I mean there's a whole even aside from the songs, there's a bit
- 55:24we're assault her sexually. No, I think what is it? Canicki and
- 55:30Rizzo having sex on the condom breaks or something or he doesn't have a condom
- 55:34or something, and it's like what now she's pregnant or and then they're celebrated,
- 55:37they're all happy, like yeah. I mean I haven't seen this when
- 55:40I was about seven or so actually at the cinema because we all watch it
- 55:44when we're kids. Yeah, yeh. And I'm sure there are bits of
- 55:46it going, oh, well, this Songe's great. I mean, oh,
- 55:49we've got a trush on o Livia and Newton John and wow John Travoldgan
- 55:51really dance. But there were parts of me going, the fuck is going
- 55:53on here? I don't I don't understand this or it's like I don't think
- 55:57I should be hearing this and making fun of living it John because she's a
- 56:00virgin. Yeah, this whole look at me on Sandra d thing, It's
- 56:01like I'm getting this on a basic level. It's like, oh, she's
- 56:05a bit of a goody two shoes, but yeah, in the whole line
- 56:07about lousy with virginity and all that kind of stuff, it's like, Wow,
- 56:09Grease is an odd duck. It is very very odd. But then
- 56:14this is the thing. Obviously it's just Danny Zuko Bullshi. But he implies
- 56:16in that song tell me more that they did it on the beach, but
- 56:20apparently she's a virgin. It's like I can't keep up. Well, that's
- 56:22teenage boys for you. Though. Did you go all the way? Oh
- 56:27yeah, all the way? She was good. You knew what I mean.
- 56:32No one knows what they mean. I love about Grease, no house,
- 56:37I've been looking all over for you. Listen, you've had a crush.
- 56:42I mean, right, well, this is your lucky day because you're
- 56:44gonna take me to the dance. Pretty great, I see you. Oh
- 56:49but I can't I already asked somebody, so unasked her what that one you're
- 56:54talking me? You got that? And it's gonna be a magical evening.
- 57:01What am I doing? This isn't me. I'm sorry, Malhouse playing free
- 57:07next weekend. There's plenty of Milhouse to go around. And then we come
- 57:14back at home and Bart now living home at night in the greasemobile, and
- 57:16he promises, God, if he gets the payoff here, you'll doing it
- 57:19half the profits to charity. He's not stupid, Dad, Let's just go.
- 57:22And then the drums fall off. He knew should have attached those somehow.
- 57:24Lisa is now looking at germs and they've got dates and March here is
- 57:30just like every mum of a loser kid. I think I love the line,
- 57:32which is just like I have to, honey. It's like, you
- 57:35don't actually believe I'm gonna be the bawl of the ball. I have to,
- 57:37honey. I've gotta support you no matter what, even if I truly
- 57:40believe it. But she says, you still have a good time, and
- 57:43I agree, you can still have a good time. It's like when I
- 57:45go with my friends, are like, oh, you're gonna be drinking.
- 57:46It's not like I don't really need to I rather just drive home. Yeah,
- 57:52but then you know they're canting on Lisa to the tickets, and Marge
- 57:54talks to him to going well, scares her away, scares her away with
- 57:58every Simpson dance. Now yeah, Homer then says this better work because he
- 58:02doesn't want to work on that EMU farm. And they arrive at the school.
- 58:06They turn on the suction and we get the eye moment. Yeah,
- 58:07which always just grossed me out when I was a kid. I love that
- 58:10that you call back to it a little bit later. There were those little
- 58:14rubber monster head squishing squeeze them like the eyes would bowlded. I guess that's
- 58:19yeah, maybe they're going for you, Lisa. They're still collecting tickets.
- 58:22Everyone's having a good time. Was on the door opens, You can hear
- 58:23the music clos that's very very quiet Bill Houses date, as Kevin McAlister would
- 58:29say, Wolf, do you know that was the directors or one of the
- 58:34writers' sons dressed in girls clothes? Oh my gosh. Really Yeah, they're
- 58:37like, we don't want to actually make fun of a girl. We'll get
- 58:38a boy dressed up as a girl. Okay, that's pretty clear, but
- 58:43Homer, but then arrive in the cafeteria and they get the grease, and
- 58:46now we wait, so is this your school? Well it used to be.
- 58:50It's like, oh, I feel bad for partner that's just been taken
- 58:52out of school. Really, then walks in freshening up in his undies and
- 58:54in a tower. What's he's cleaning himself with like ajax on a Brellow pain
- 58:58or something. It's like, oh god, that's so scol Yes, I
- 59:05mean ah, I mean, what are you doing here? We're a new
- 59:09foreign exchange students from Scotland, said spit priest. I'm from Scotland. Where
- 59:19you hail from North kilt Town? No fooling, I'm from North Kilttown.
- 59:27Do you know Angus McCleod. Wait a minute, here's no Angus McCleod in
- 59:32North Kiltown. Why you're not from Scotland at all? I don't bit daft.
- 59:39I was born in rip What the my the diamond grease? No,
- 59:46yeah, even grease pundits, I'll kill you. The old idea of what
- 59:51they're trying to run away in this event and he's just chasing up strangles in
- 59:57from the ipops that once again. Skinner then asked Lisa to take a because
- 1:00:00mother has found a doom bug corner and she got a corner in the basement
- 1:00:02and she goes in and she realizes that nobody is dancing together because acting like
- 1:00:07a bunch of kids. Yep, that's what I don't actually recall ever having
- 1:00:10a dance. At primary school, we used to have the things called the
- 1:00:14Ruggrats Disco. You remember Ruggrats. It was the kids said to wear cotton
- 1:00:16on now is yes and Friday night, seven o'clock Ruggrets Disco seven till ten,
- 1:00:22All ages, all underage, all ages, underage, all ages.
- 1:00:28And that's where I got my first kiss, and I saw my first boobies.
- 1:00:32I saw them, yeah, Molly, Yeah, it's just it's literally
- 1:00:37just come back to me. So being in the tunnels at explated at Rugrats
- 1:00:40going through and there was just like this girl who was just like flashing this
- 1:00:45kid, this boy his name was Daniel always says last Daniel m and he
- 1:00:49was just like you don't check it out and she flashed me as well,
- 1:00:51and I was like I know what to do right, Yeah, So many
- 1:00:53feelings, yes, good times. The Rugrats discoll What was your earliest like
- 1:01:00school social or dance or things like that, or or just like an advoca
- 1:01:05disco kind of thing. Didn't they have like the blue light discot the lyric
- 1:01:07or something. Wasn't that a thing after my time that I was older?
- 1:01:13Yeah? Yeah, I mean I remember when I was at school there was
- 1:01:16there's the Italian Social Club out on the out on the road to like Ocean
- 1:01:20Grove and that. But it's actually called the Peninsula, isn't it. I
- 1:01:22think so oh might just actually be called the Italian Social Club because it had
- 1:01:27a nickname that I cannot say on this podcast. I know what it is.
- 1:01:30You know, I gave them not said to say, yes, we
- 1:01:34don't say that, And you know i'd hear about oh yeah we went to
- 1:01:39some and so on the weekend, and I'm like, oh, that sounds
- 1:01:42like funny. Yes, thanks for reminding me. I just sound like too
- 1:01:45far away and too honestly too much when we're growing up. When I was
- 1:01:46growing up, like Lee Pott going Leopods on the Elephant Graveyard. But you
- 1:01:53know, there'd be the odd, yeah, just house party where it's or
- 1:01:57you know, video night or something like that. And then yeah, I
- 1:02:00think there were a couple of school dances, and it all sort of culminated
- 1:02:02in year twelve with this this big dance web. You're able to actually allow
- 1:02:06it, even if you weren't fully eighteen, you were sort of allowed to
- 1:02:07drink, and we all just got ship faced. That's the thing. I
- 1:02:14asked that this girl who was so I was punching so far above my weight.
- 1:02:17I couldn't believe it that. She said, yet, that's what you
- 1:02:20do. You got to take chances. Well, yeah, it's lovely.
- 1:02:22Girl actually said yes. But then I made up with another girl, dirty
- 1:02:25dog. I said, your dirty dog. Oh dear, Oh, well,
- 1:02:32apologies to this girl. We all break a heart or two, didn't
- 1:02:37we? Well, had a heartbreak and and we broke some hearts as well.
- 1:02:39Yeah. Correct, Oh Lisa, it's terrible, Okay, this dance
- 1:02:44has gone Titanic. What happened? Well, the boys and girls are like
- 1:02:47afraid of each other. They're acting like a bunch of kids. I know
- 1:02:52what is up with about it. It's because they are kids, and so
- 1:02:54are we. Come on, Alex, we've only got nine, maybe ten
- 1:03:00years tips when we can giggle in church and cheer with our mouths open and
- 1:03:05go days without meaning we'll never have that freedom again. Listen. You can
- 1:03:10giggle and stink all you want, but I have a credit card, so
- 1:03:14on you Billian Homer then caused a greace to explode. It comes through the
- 1:03:19vent into the dance. Here comes a grease ball and that's what That's what
- 1:03:22Tom was mentioning Luid. I love that. He's like, I won't do
- 1:03:27the accent, but no, hold spot, it's okay when Isaiah yes anyway,
- 1:03:37so funny. But then Lisa tells a just at your age and she
- 1:03:39throws a greaseball at her, which she didn't start doing in return, and
- 1:03:43there was some bacon in that. That's the end of the episode. Yeah,
- 1:03:45a sweet ending. They haven't hit the well. This is considered post
- 1:03:50golden ear season ten, but there's still got Golden era of vibes to it.
- 1:03:52It does. It's got golden residue, shall we say, yes,
- 1:03:57crazy residue. All right, guys, thank you so much for listening to
