- 0:03My name is Chandler. If you'll take a gander, I'll
- 0:07tell you what you need to know. I'm barely a teen and not at all
- 0:13mean, though at times it might seem I am.
- 0:16So I have a brother. Let's try not to mother.
- 0:21But my world's been turned upside down.
- 0:26His name is Ethan. He's only three N Wherever I am,
- 0:30he's around Ethan, you see. Well, he wants to be when he
- 0:37grows up. A dinosaur doesn't speak clear.
- 0:42He jabbers and we're always on edge because he likes to roar.
- 0:47Why? I've learned to choose between
- 0:50win and lose. It's all with the words that we
- 0:53say. Good words build smiles for
- 0:57miles and for miles and bad words, well, for them we pay.
- 1:03I try to tell Ethan to say something.
- 1:05We can at least understand what you mean.
- 1:10Mostly we here, whenever he's near, is something like Goo Gaga
- 1:16bean. Goo Bean.
- 1:18I think he wants beans. Dad says as he gleans from the
- 1:22gibberish my brother said. I stare at him thinking, is
- 1:27there an inkling that you can use real words instead?
- 1:33I remember the day when he jumped all the way from the
- 1:37chair at my desk to the bed. You might think that's cool, but
- 1:42then you'd be a fool because he landed smack dab on my head.
- 1:48I told him say sorry my head all ajarry.
- 1:52I know that's not really a word, sometimes even I let some
- 1:57gibberish fly. Who can blame me with the
- 2:00nonsense I've heard. One thing's for certain, my head
- 2:05was hurting while Ethan kept jumping a while.
- 2:10But then I did hear, so loud and so clear he said dinosaur style.
- 2:17While my pain was tragic, his sorry not magic, I could tell it
- 2:22was not from the heart. But at least it's a word that I
- 2:26finally heard. And that my fine friend, was a
- 2:30start. God made the earth and us.
- 2:34He gave birth all by the words that he spoke with words of his
- 2:40love. God came from above.
- 2:43I'm telling you, words ain't no joke.
- 2:47They're full of power, like building a tower.
- 2:51Our words, they like grow what we say.
- 2:54Our words, good or bad words, happy or sad with words.
- 2:59What will you grow today? Well, I must admit I forgot I've
- 3:04been hit. The pain, it was gone from my
- 3:07head. I ran through the house like a
- 3:11cat chased a mouse. And that mouse was the word
- 3:14Ethan said. Dad, did you hear?
- 3:18It was so loud and clear. Dad, Ethan said sorry to me, Dad
- 3:24answered. Oh wow, can you go get him now
- 3:27because he told me he wanted beans.
- 3:32I just shook my head and went back to bed.
- 3:35On the way, I sent Ethan to eat. But deep down inside, I've tried
- 3:42and I've tried and I finally got Ethan to speak.
- 3:47I love my brother, so I try to cover the basis for all of his
- 3:52life. It isn't just chatter.
- 3:55Our words really matter. Bad words, they can cut like a
- 3:59knife. Good words are best.
- 4:03Don't mess with the rest. The secrets to life.
- 4:07Here's the key, the good words we say, they brighten our day
- 4:12and take us where we want to be. Special thanks to Chandler Jones
- 4:21and Ethan Webb. Brandon.
- 4:28I'm home. Oh no, Mom's home.
- 4:31I was supposed to pick up the front yard before she got home.
- 4:34I've been laying on the couch watching TV.
- 4:37She even told me don't turn on the TV until you're finished
- 4:39picking up the front yard. I'm in big trouble now.
- 4:44Kid, I specialize in trouble. I know just what to do.
- 4:48What? Lie.
- 4:50I can't lie, that's wrong, okay? Have it your way, but your mom
- 4:55is going to put you on restriction for the rest of your
- 4:58life. Oh.
- 4:59No. Not the rest of my life.
- 5:02I wanted to go to Liams birthday party this Saturday.
- 5:04Now you'll never get to go anywhere ever again.
- 5:08That's terrible. All I have to do is tell one
- 5:11lie. One lie.
- 5:13Tell her you got sick at school and came home early.
- 5:16You laid down and fell asleep because you weren't feeling
- 5:18well. Then offer to pick up the yard
- 5:20anyway. Wow.
- 5:22That's a good lie. It might work.
- 5:26Lies are never good, Brandon. They're bad.
- 5:29No heart. I think mom will believe it and
- 5:32then I won't get put on restriction for the rest of my
- 5:34life. Brandon, lying is a sin.
- 5:37Is that any way to honor your mother?
- 5:39No, no, not the honor your parents speech.
- 5:42Don't you ever say anything new. Quiet devil, I'm not talking to
- 5:47you. Honor means to value or respect
- 5:50someone. How valuable are your parents to
- 5:52you if you lie to them? The best way to show honor to
- 5:55your parents is to respect them enough to be honest and keep
- 5:59your word. That's just it, Hart.
- 6:01I didn't keep my word about picking up the front yard.
- 6:05Yeah, he was watching his show and forgot.
- 6:07It's not like he was out selling drugs or something bad.
- 6:11You weren't supposed to be watching your show until you
- 6:13were done picking up the yard. I know.
- 6:15What should I do, Hart? As children of God, we should
- 6:18behave honorably, so be honest. But if I tell the truth, I'll
- 6:23get put on restriction for the rest of my life and I won't get
- 6:26to go to Lee's birthday party on Saturday.
- 6:28Who told you you would get put on restriction for the rest of
- 6:32your life? I did you want to make something
- 6:35of it? It's a lie.
- 6:36He might get put on restriction, but not for the rest of his
- 6:40life. Are you calling me a liar?
- 6:43Yeah, everyone knows you're a liar.
- 6:45So tell me, how long will he get put on restriction for?
- 6:49How am I supposed to know I'm not a mind reader?
- 6:52Well, I am. Liar.
- 6:54You give people ideas, bad ideas, and that's as close as
- 6:58you get to reading anyone's mind.
- 7:00Hey, where's Brandon? Oh man.
- 7:04I should have never listened to you.
- 7:06What? Who?
- 7:07Who'd you listen to? I told my mom I got sick at
- 7:09school when I was sent home. All right, liar, liar, pants on
- 7:14fire. Quiet Devil.
- 7:17Fine, I'm leaving. So Brandon, what happened when
- 7:20you lied to your mom? Mom's mad because the school
- 7:23didn't call her at work and tell her that I was sick.
- 7:26She's going to call the principal in the morning.
- 7:28Not only did you not honor your mom, now you're going to look
- 7:31bad to the principal. He's going to think I think
- 7:33you're a liar. What do I do now, heart?
- 7:35It's never too late to start honoring your mom.
- 7:38True, it would have been better to make the right decision from
- 7:41the start, but you'd better tell the truth now, before this lie
- 7:44makes things worse. You're right, it's time to start
- 7:47honoring my mom. Disobeyed and lied.
- 7:53He just might get put on restriction for the rest of his
- 7:56life. Fire.
- 8:10Where's the? Fire.
- 8:11Maybe we should call 911 Help somebody help.
- 8:15Hey Beaver, where's the fire? You guys look so funny running.
- 8:21I love so hard that I almost died.
- 8:25You 2 kill me. Hey ya little runt.
- 8:29You mean there's no fire? I never said there was a fire, I
- 8:33just said the word fire. I ought to clobber you.
- 8:37You're a pain in the neck, Eddie.
- 8:39He's my little brother. If anyone's going to clobber
- 8:42him, it's going to be me. Gee, Wally, what are you going
- 8:44to hit me for? I was just having a little fun.
- 8:47You have to be careful what you say, Beaver, even for the fun of
- 8:51it. Words are very powerful, and
- 8:53they should be chosen wisely. Wally.
- 8:56Are you going to start that watch what you say speech?
- 9:00Yeah, Wally, I don't need a lecture from you.
- 9:02I get enough of that from Dad. Would you rather I tell Dad?
- 9:06Yeah, tell the old man. If I promise to listen to your
- 9:10lecture, will you promise not to tell on me?
- 9:12I promise. OK, but try to keep it short.
- 9:16It's almost lunchtime. You said you laughed so hard you
- 9:19almost died and you said we kill you.
- 9:22You yelled fire when there is no fire and you called Eddie a pain
- 9:27in the neck. Well, he is a pain in the neck.
- 9:29You said so yourself lots of times.
- 9:31Hey. Well, I shouldn't have said it
- 9:35like that, but my point is your words are like seeds that you
- 9:39plant in your heart, and you don't want words like that to
- 9:42produce fruit, do you? Laughing so hard you die, we
- 9:46kill you. That one's not such a bad idea.
- 9:49Knock. It off.
- 9:50Eddie. I'm just kidding, Wally.
- 9:53Chi Wally, when you put it like that, it kind of makes sense.
- 9:57What if next time you're really in trouble and you yell for
- 10:00help? We might not believe you and
- 10:02you'll be on your own, pal. She, Eddie, even you make sense
- 10:06for once. Thanks, Court.
- 10:08Can I go now, Wally? Sure.
- 10:12Well, that was quick. Oh, I'm not done.
- 10:15I have an idea. Do you think Beaver will fall
- 10:22for it? Of course he will.
- 10:24He's a little. Kid OK.
- 10:26Sport anytime you're ready. Pizza.
- 10:32All right, pizza. Where's the pizza?
- 10:35What pizza? Well, I said the pizza guy was
- 10:37here. No, I didn't.
- 10:39I said pizza. I never said the pizza guy was
- 10:42here. You should have seen the look on
- 10:45your face. Get it?
- 10:47You're getting back at me, aren't you?
- 10:50No. I wanted you to see how
- 10:51important words really are. You should say what you mean and
- 10:55mean what you say. The Bible says guard your heart
- 10:58with all diligence for out of it's bring the issues of life.
- 11:02Proverbs 423. Where are you guys going?
- 11:06We're going to get some pizza. See ya.
- 11:08Squirt. What about me?
