- Adam Rutz: If you want elite results, you have to protect your environment. One of Brian Kane's 10 pillars of mental performance mastery is pillar number 10, the right culture. Most people, when they hear the word culture, they think about a team, a locker room, or a business. But you have a personal culture too. It's the people you spend time with, the conversations you allow, the habits you repeat, the environments you keep putting yourself in. And sometimes. If you want to become who you say you want to become, you have to remove something. Maybe it's a person who constantly brings negativity into your life. Every conversation is complaining. Every goal you have gets criticized. Every idea gets shut down. At some point, you have to ask yourself, why am I continuing to give this person my time and energy? And sometimes it's not a person. Sometimes it's a vice. Maybe it's drinking alcohol. Maybe it's gambling. Maybe it's constantly scrolling on your phone. Maybe it's staying up late doing things that leave you exhausted the next morning. Whatever it is, elite performers are willing to evaluate it. Because elite performers control their culture. They protect what gets access to them. They surround themselves with people who challenge them, support them, tell them the truth, and push them toward a higher standard. And they're willing to cut out things that consistently pull them away from who they are trying to become. You don't have to hate anybody, you don't have to judge anybody, but you do have to protect your environment. So look at your life today. Who is making you better? Who's making you worse? What habit is weighing you down? What needs to go? Because sometimes improvement is not about adding more. Sometimes the next level starts with subtraction. Protect your culture, protect your standards, protect the person you're becoming. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
