- 0:00Speaker 1: Kevin great for the UK cabuddy toy hither Andrew all right,
- 0:05Speaker 1: of course we're not ticking Aquii savers because of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: whole terraff war. And and now Jaguar and Manrover has
- 0:10Speaker 1: announced they're just going to pause things for a while
- 0:12Speaker 1: and kick out what's going down.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so the Prime Minister here saying that they're going
- 0:17Speaker 2: to take stock keeping eye on things, but actually time
- 0:21Speaker 2: isn't a luxury that car manufacturers in this country can afford,
- 0:24Speaker 2: nor the steel industry. Let's start with car manufacturers, Jaguar
- 0:28Speaker 2: landro renouncing it's going to pause all shipments to the US,
- 0:32Speaker 2: and that of course is to quote address the new
- 0:35Speaker 2: trading terms. Of course, there was a twenty five percent
- 0:38Speaker 2: levy on car imports going into America announced by Donald Trump,
- 0:42Speaker 2: and the US is the second largest export market for
- 0:46Speaker 2: the UK's car industry, said in a twelve month period
- 0:49Speaker 2: to be worth roughly sixteen seventeen billion New Zealand dollars
- 0:55Speaker 2: a year. So this is you know, reasonable size stuff.
- 0:58Speaker 2: And the initial waiver of tariffs are also going to
- 1:01Speaker 2: be followed up with an import tax on auto parts.
- 1:04Speaker 2: So it's interesting now to see what different car manufacturers
- 1:07Speaker 2: are doing Jaguar Land Rover luxury brand pausing in other words,
- 1:11Speaker 2: and not sending any more cars over to America from
- 1:15Speaker 2: its Coventry It's Midland spased manufacturing site. Nissan thinking about
- 1:19Speaker 2: moving some of its production of US bound vehicles from
- 1:23Speaker 2: Japan to America, and the carmaker Stilantis said it's temporarily
- 1:28Speaker 2: shutting down its assembly plant in Windsor in Canada. So
- 1:32Speaker 2: different responses from the car manufacturing groups. And regarding steel,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I'm afraid it looks like British steel is in big
- 1:39Speaker 2: trouble here in the UK, and it certainly looks like
- 1:42Speaker 2: those extra tariffs are going to make life very, very
- 1:44Speaker 2: difficult for it.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Nissan, I understand, has been talking about actually building
- 1:49Speaker 1: some manufacturing plants in the United States of America to
- 1:51Speaker 1: get round it, so that would actually be Trump's little
- 1:55Speaker 1: policy actually working. So let's move to Rome. And the
- 1:58Speaker 1: Pope has been a naughty way ignoring medical advice.
- 2:03Speaker 2: He has because, having spent some weeks in hospital, he
- 2:06Speaker 2: was told not to really do anything for several weeks. However,
- 2:09Speaker 2: for the first time since he was rushed into hospital
- 2:12Speaker 2: in Rome, he has made his first public appearance. He
- 2:16Speaker 2: was released from hospital a fortnight ago, and the eighty
- 2:19Speaker 2: eight year old, having spent five weeks there, was then
- 2:22Speaker 2: told to take several weeks off. However, he appeared in
- 2:25Speaker 2: a previously unannounced move, entering sent Peter Square in a
- 2:28Speaker 2: wheelchair shortly before noon that local time noon and the
- 2:34Speaker 2: end of the celebration of a mass for the Catholic
- 2:36Speaker 2: Church's jubilee year. There were applauding crowds. There were many
- 2:40Speaker 2: pleased to see him. There were also some who were
- 2:42Speaker 2: evidently quite shocked at his appearance. He did look really
- 2:46Speaker 2: pretty weak. His voice did sound stronger than when he'd
- 2:50Speaker 2: first addressed well wishers outside the hospital. But yeah, plenty
- 2:54Speaker 2: of people commenting on his appearance, looking pretty gaunt and
- 2:57Speaker 2: also with them being fed at the like oxygen through
- 3:01Speaker 2: his nose as well, so trying to keep making sure
- 3:04Speaker 2: that he's getting oxygen to his various organs. But nevertheless,
- 3:08Speaker 2: as I said, great to see him up and about,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but yeah, further concern about his general overall health.
- 3:13Speaker 1: He needs the people, and the people need him. And
- 3:15Speaker 1: Gavin Gray from the UK, thank you so much for
- 3:19Speaker 1: more from early edition with Ryan Bridge.
