- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And that book is a short, fun read that'll help you increase your creativity in writing and also other areas of creative work.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And you can get that book by visiting kent sanders.net slash suitcase if you'd like to check out the whole book.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Now before I share the excerpt, though, I'm excited to share that today's episode of the Daily Writer Podcast is sponsored by Vellum.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: As a writer, you not only want to write great books, you also want them to look professionally formatted and give your reader a great reading experience.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: If you've ever tried to format a book in Microsoft Word, you know how frustrating it can be to make your book look good using a tool that was never designed for book formatting.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And that's why for years, my go-to choice for book formatting software has been Vellum.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Vellum gives you the power to build, style, and preview your book and have more fun than you ever thought possible while doing it.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Vellum is the go-to choice for indie authors who care about creating beautiful ebooks and print books and want to save tons of time in the process.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Best of all, you can download Vellum and play with your book's formatting to your heart's content.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: You only have to purchase when you're ready to publish.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And when you do so, Vellum can create ebooks for every platform, including Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, and more, as well as a PDF ready to upload for the print version of your book.

- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Alright, here's an excerpt from my book, The Artist Suitcase, 26 Essentials for the Creative Journey, and this is chapter 2, B is for Blank Page.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: B is for blank page.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: The blank page represents the space where you create your art.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It can be a computer, studio, canvas, or a literal blank page.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: When you look behind the page, you'll see two creatures, the monster and the muse.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: First, there's the monster.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: The monster feeds on fear and likes to taunt you with these kinds of thoughts.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: This won't be any good.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Nobody likes what you're doing.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You'll never be a real artist.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: When are you going to give up these silly dreams?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Every time you think about quitting, you feed the monster.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Every time you tell yourself your art doesn't matter, you feed the monster.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Every time you listen to the naysayers and the doubters, you feed the monster.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Every time you let your dreams slip out the back door of your life, you feed the monster.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Stephen Pressfield calls this force resistance.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: In his landmark book, The War of Art, he writes, Resistance has no strength of its own.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Every ounce of juice it possesses comes from us.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: We feed it with power by our fear of it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: The monster feeds on fear, and you must starve it to death.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: But there is also the muse.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: The muse is a magical creature that brings out the best in you.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: The muse speaks words of life, hope, and beauty.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: You were born for this.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: You're making a difference in people's lives.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: There are people who love what you're doing.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: You have amazing potential.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: The muse feeds on faith, and it is the wellspring of creativity within you.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: As a person of faith, I believe God has an awful lot to do with this.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: The muse gives you the power to inspire, teach, and bless others.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Every time you pick up your pen or paintbrush, you feed the muse.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Every time you put your head down and do the work, you feed the muse.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Every time you improve your skills, you feed the muse.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Every time you serve someone with your art, you feed the muse.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Look behind every blank page, and you'll find the monster and the muse.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: One feeds on fear, the other feeds on faith.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Which one will you feed?
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: I hope you enjoyed that short excerpt from the Artist Suitcase 26 Essentials for the Creative Journey.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Once again, you can grab the book by visiting KentSanders.netslash suitcase.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you tomorrow.
