Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Goody.
- 0:00Speaker 2: My name is Dale Tanner and I am the vocalist
- 0:03Speaker 2: in the band Ocean Grove and we are currently on
- 0:06Speaker 2: tour right now on the Odd World Underground tour with
- 0:10Speaker 2: our friends Cane Hill, all the way from New Orleans,
- 0:14Speaker 2: New Orleans, I could say Louisiana and Jeficit and Blinder
- 0:18Speaker 2: from here in Australia. I'm here chatting with Chris from
- 0:21Speaker 2: Heavy mag and I'm very happy to do good Chris.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I made and I know you' lying when you
- 0:26Speaker 3: say you're happy to be here, but thanks for.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Trying mate away.
- 0:31Speaker 2: At least I can do.
- 0:35Speaker 4: I should kick off your Odd World Underground Australian's your
- 0:39Speaker 4: tonight in pers before heading through Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and
- 0:42Speaker 4: Newcastle and finishing up in Brizee on the twenty second
- 0:45Speaker 4: of August. So I don't really want to question your
- 0:48Speaker 4: work ethic, but shouldn't you be finishing off in the
- 0:50Speaker 4: rehearsal room instead of speaking to me?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, look we are, you know we we we managed
- 0:56Speaker 2: to get through the whole set at least once, which
- 0:59Speaker 2: I think for is you know, a very very good start.
- 1:02Speaker 1: So just by us standards, know that we are feeling
- 1:05Speaker 1: very prepared and yeah, I know it's We've had a nice,
- 1:10Speaker 1: lovely day so far.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Here Dane a bit in per film, very relaxed, the
- 1:15Speaker 2: sun is always shining, so on on all you know,
- 1:18Speaker 2: on all accounts, we're filmed, very good about this one.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Chris, very nice man. You's about yourself a little bit
- 1:24Speaker 4: of chime off lately, which is a rare thing for you.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Guys.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Are you worried about stage rested? All met like it
- 1:29Speaker 3: is a real thing? Apparently.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I honestly think that the time off has done all
- 1:34Speaker 2: of us individually and collectively wonders. We were going pretty
- 1:39Speaker 2: hard there for a good twelve months, sort of back
- 1:41Speaker 2: to back Europe and UK and Australia tours and you know,
- 1:47Speaker 2: off the back of getting to America last year for
- 1:50Speaker 2: the first time in a good seven eight years, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: just really kind of pushing this odd world album cycle
- 1:58Speaker 2: as hard as we could, which great.
- 2:01Speaker 1: However, once we sort of.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Got to the end of the poppy Europe run that
- 2:07Speaker 2: marked sort of three tours already within the first three
- 2:11Speaker 2: months of twenty twenty six.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We sort of kind of we're looking at each.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Other going, oh, you know, in the offersite for more
- 2:17Speaker 2: tools are sort of coming in and you know, last
- 2:19Speaker 2: minute offers for this and that. We're sort of thinking, oh,
- 2:22Speaker 2: it might be time to just sort of take a
- 2:23Speaker 2: breather and just really focus on stuff in our own lives,
- 2:26Speaker 2: because you know, we are all human and we do
- 2:28Speaker 2: have lives that go on, you know, behind the scenes,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and friendships and relationships and whatever else, and careers outside
- 2:36Speaker 2: of music that we need to sort of still give
- 2:39Speaker 2: energy into and pay attention to. So I think we've
- 2:43Speaker 2: all kind of walked away and done that. And walking
- 2:47Speaker 2: into the rehearsal studio a couple of days ago and
- 2:50Speaker 2: just just feeling a lightness in the air and the
- 2:52Speaker 2: energy was good, and everyone was laughing and smiling, and
- 2:55Speaker 2: I could just immediately sense that everyone is in a
- 2:57Speaker 2: much better place than we were a few months ago,
- 2:59Speaker 2: where of tensions were high and everyone I think was
- 3:01Speaker 2: just feeling a bit agitated because it was like we
- 3:04Speaker 2: weren't really getting a just a chance to sort of
- 3:06Speaker 2: have a breeder and you know that's gonna that's gonna
- 3:08Speaker 2: have an effect on anyone if you know, you sort
- 3:10Speaker 2: of put him in the in the cooker for long
- 3:12Speaker 2: enough and just see what happens.
- 3:14Speaker 1: You know, someone's going to.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Break eventually, So I feel like it was a really
- 3:18Speaker 2: timely opportunity.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Uh and I'm glad that.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, we've kind of come out the other other end
- 3:23Speaker 2: of it and are.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Feeling good now.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I honestly think that's just going to reflect in these performances.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I don't think there's going to be sort of guzzing
- 3:31Speaker 2: by how we were playing. You know, in the back rooms,
- 3:34Speaker 2: there's definitely very minimal rust, but what has been gained
- 3:37Speaker 2: is definitely a bit more you know, mental clarity, instability
- 3:41Speaker 2: and physical sort of.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Just you know foundation.
- 3:45Speaker 2: That's that's going to sort of help us, like, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 2: get to this toolfe piece of pack hopefully.
- 3:49Speaker 4: So it sounds like you've been reading for your self
- 3:52Speaker 4: help books or you've been time off.
- 3:54Speaker 3: To mate.
- 3:56Speaker 1: A bit of light reading doesn't hurt.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Like you say, Man, you're not traveling light like you've
- 4:03Speaker 4: taken New Orleans Metal, Cory after Cane Hill, got Ozzie Band, Stevisit,
- 4:06Speaker 4: and Briander on the road. So from what I know,
- 4:08Speaker 4: you guys made like it's not a randomly selected chores.
- 4:11Speaker 4: So tell us about those bands and what they're bringing
- 4:13Speaker 4: to it.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I mean we've we've had the opportunity to to actually
- 4:20Speaker 2: sort of get to know and tour with Devin the
- 4:22Speaker 2: drammer of Paine Hill on the last few Poppy tours,
- 4:25Speaker 2: so he's he's sort of been on those tours as
- 4:28Speaker 2: crew as drum tech on those tours. So that was
- 4:32Speaker 2: our first sort of little chance to kind of get
- 4:35Speaker 2: to know one of the members from the band. And
- 4:38Speaker 2: I think for the longest while that's been one of those,
- 4:41Speaker 2: you know, one of those bands in America that from
- 4:44Speaker 2: the get go, you know, kind of those small comparisons
- 4:47Speaker 2: were always made between us and them, and it always
- 4:49Speaker 2: stelt like, you know, a match that was guesting to
- 4:53Speaker 2: happen at some point, and you know, this is this
- 4:56Speaker 2: is really cool, Like it's our first other than other No,
- 5:00Speaker 2: the my disaster tour where we brought out Pale Dusk,
- 5:02Speaker 2: that being you know, the first time bringing out an
- 5:04Speaker 2: international as a support. This is the first time bringing
- 5:07Speaker 2: out a support from the States. So I think for
- 5:11Speaker 2: Ocean Grove it's a it's quite a significant moment in
- 5:15Speaker 2: and of itself.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I think it's something to be very proud of.
- 5:17Speaker 2: And something that when you're sort of growing up and
- 5:19Speaker 2: looking at the bands and their careers and you sort
- 5:23Speaker 2: of see them, you know, bring out some international bands
- 5:26Speaker 2: for an Australian tour.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It feels really special. You know, it's special to be at.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Those shows because you sort of think, wow, like maybe
- 5:32Speaker 2: if it wasn't for this headline artist, you know, these
- 5:37Speaker 2: these support bands from across the world, might not get
- 5:39Speaker 2: that opportunity and you might not get to see, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 2: some great apps that you wanted to see your whole life.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And so hopefully that's what we're providing on this tour.
- 5:48Speaker 2: You know, there's a lot of people can come to
- 5:50Speaker 2: these shows that I've always wanted to see Ka and
- 5:51Speaker 2: Hill that they have never had the chance to and
- 5:54Speaker 2: that's just a really really nice bonus of what it
- 5:56Speaker 2: is that we do. So it's it's a really nice
- 5:59Speaker 2: full circum moment. You know, we've just met them literally
- 6:03Speaker 2: an hour ago, and they all seem.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Like really lovely lads.
- 6:05Speaker 2: So I'm sure it's going to be really great tour,
- 6:09Speaker 2: you know, So let's hope say that way or that
- 6:12Speaker 2: to be you.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Know in a few years and you know, Deficite and Blinder.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I think it's really cool, you know, these are these
- 6:19Speaker 2: are both up and coming Australian bands as far as
- 6:23Speaker 2: I know, you know, Blinder have only played really a
- 6:25Speaker 2: handful of shows, maybe three or four shows before joining
- 6:28Speaker 2: this tour, and uh, you know that this is a
- 6:31Speaker 2: really coot opportunity for us to kind of give a
- 6:35Speaker 2: go to a couple of bands that you know, we're
- 6:38Speaker 2: not too familiar with.
- 6:39Speaker 1: We've we've never played a show with either.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Of these bands, but you know, they've been recommended and
- 6:45Speaker 2: sort of their name sort of thrown on the table.
- 6:50Speaker 1: And we've checked out their music.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And their vibe and sort of gone, yeah, you know what,
- 6:56Speaker 2: like let's let's give them a go like that, that's
- 6:58Speaker 2: what it's all about.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Like we don't get.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Let's it, let's a crack like you can't really you
- 7:01Speaker 2: don't want to judge too heavily, you don't ont to
- 7:03Speaker 2: base it on you know, sort of too much, and
- 7:05Speaker 2: we just went with sort of the instinctual kind of vibe.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And but those bands seem to really really tick that
- 7:11Speaker 2: box of what what Ocean Grove is trying to do
- 7:13Speaker 2: and sort of what we're trying to encompass with a
- 7:15Speaker 2: tool like this.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And so I think overall it's yeah, it's a really
- 7:18Speaker 1: cool package.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yes, sweet looking through the trolly is too, man Like.
- 7:23Speaker 4: I noticed that Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide shows a license
- 7:26Speaker 4: and all ages, which is awesome. You don't see enough
- 7:29Speaker 4: all ages shows these days, do you.
- 7:31Speaker 1: No? No, I agree, I think.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I think that's I always light up when I see that,
- 7:36Speaker 2: you know, And sometimes it's only until the flyer, my
- 7:39Speaker 2: own flyer is like it's posted that I go, oh, yeah,
- 7:42Speaker 2: like did I miss that detail?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Like, oh, that's pretty sweet, you know.
- 7:45Speaker 2: So we've done that in my last few tours. Definitely
- 7:48Speaker 2: on the Minosarster too. A couple of years ago there
- 7:51Speaker 2: was a couple of shows there where we had all
- 7:53Speaker 2: ages and I know that because the album trails all ages,
- 7:55Speaker 2: and my nephew came along to the show with my
- 7:59Speaker 2: with my sister.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And my brother in law, and he didn't actually make it.
- 8:04Speaker 2: He was just so knackered by the time it got
- 8:07Speaker 2: to our set time. He was probably he was probably
- 8:09Speaker 2: like seven at the time, and I think just the noise,
- 8:12Speaker 2: the loud noise, and the air conditioning broke that night,
- 8:14Speaker 2: so it was like really steamy in there.
- 8:16Speaker 1: It was a packed out show. And he just couldn't
- 8:18Speaker 1: he just couldn't stand it any longer. So even though
- 8:20Speaker 1: he came to the show, I was really excited for
- 8:21Speaker 1: him to finally see I can go, he didn't actually
- 8:24Speaker 1: get to see this. So that's still that's still yet.
- 8:26Speaker 2: To be But that kind of stuff, you know, I'm
- 8:29Speaker 2: uncle Dale to you know, plenty of nieces and nephews
- 8:33Speaker 2: and beyond, and just just to know that there's a
- 8:36Speaker 2: new generation of kids discovering new metal, discovering heavy music
- 8:40Speaker 2: and get the chance to do that at our shows
- 8:43Speaker 2: when it is sort of license all ages.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I just think that's it's an amazing aspect of what.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I really cherished growing up, being able to go shows
- 8:51Speaker 2: at fourteen fifteen, you know, hardcore shows and things that
- 8:53Speaker 2: were all ages, and it was it was a lot
- 8:55Speaker 2: more you know, present back then ten.
- 8:58Speaker 1: To fifteen years ago than it is today.
- 9:00Speaker 2: And so I think, you know that that's still that
- 9:04Speaker 2: still underpins what we do because it's sort of what
- 9:07Speaker 2: we brought up on, so we see the value and
- 9:09Speaker 2: the importance of that and it's how we got into music.
- 9:11Speaker 2: So to be able to sort of pay that forward
- 9:14Speaker 2: and you know it, it gives the opportunity for the
- 9:16Speaker 2: young ones and parents to sort of bring their kids along,
- 9:18Speaker 2: I think is yeah, it's very cool.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So you know, yeah, fastless totally. Yeah.
- 9:23Speaker 4: You mentioned before, Bro that you've recently done a few
- 9:25Speaker 4: overseas tools. Like so many people in the position to
- 9:28Speaker 4: be able to judge this, but like, as a performer,
- 9:31Speaker 4: how different is it playing like thousands of miles away
- 9:33Speaker 4: from home.
- 9:34Speaker 3: It's actually coming home and playing and going backyard.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I guess it's like you know, basically on I guess
- 9:42Speaker 2: how you want to perceive it. It It really one
- 9:47Speaker 2: benefits to the other in terms of a mentality. So
- 9:50Speaker 2: when you're overseas, obviously you do miss home, but you
- 9:54Speaker 2: come to cherish the things that make.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Where you are, wherever it is in the world.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Unique and the fact that you can be somewhere in
- 10:03Speaker 2: Europe and you know, English is definitely their second language,
- 10:08Speaker 2: and they're singing the words back to you, but in
- 10:12Speaker 2: a strange you know, twang or accent and it doesn't
- 10:17Speaker 2: quite sound the same, but they're singing along nonetheless, and
- 10:21Speaker 2: you just sort of think, Wow, I am on the
- 10:23Speaker 2: other side of the world and somehow I'm We've captured
- 10:27Speaker 2: and where it we're sort of where we're in this
- 10:29Speaker 2: bubble of energy together and communicating through music rather than
- 10:34Speaker 2: language in a way, and it's a beautiful that's a
- 10:37Speaker 2: beautiful moment where when you're at home in Australia you
- 10:40Speaker 2: sort of, you know, you take for granted that that
- 10:44Speaker 2: kind of connection will just happen because you are all
- 10:47Speaker 2: kind of very much on the same page in terms
- 10:49Speaker 2: of language and culture.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And so forth.
- 10:51Speaker 2: But when you're overseas, you know, there aren't a lot
- 10:54Speaker 2: of other things that are necessarily tying you to these
- 10:56Speaker 2: people other than the art that you've created and that
- 10:58Speaker 2: they're connected to. And it's brought you all to that
- 11:00Speaker 2: same room and and you're there sharing in that moment,
- 11:02Speaker 2: and so by sheer contrast, so one sort of compliments
- 11:07Speaker 2: the other, and you know, you do a tool like
- 11:09Speaker 2: that and it's amazing, and you get sort of.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Four or five weeks in, of course, you start to.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Miss home, and it is really lovely when you get
- 11:15Speaker 2: to when you get to return back to Australia after
- 11:18Speaker 2: a tool like that and play a show not too
- 11:21Speaker 2: far long after, and they're just there isn't really any
- 11:26Speaker 2: place like home, especially, you know, a Melbourne show like
- 11:30Speaker 2: home city where we're from, because they're the just the
- 11:42Speaker 2: art is what you know, These are venues that you've
- 11:45Speaker 2: gone to when you like growing up as a kid,
- 11:47Speaker 2: and and you.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Know contextually like what what that.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Kind of that means to you, and and the just
- 11:54Speaker 2: the energy in a room and that sort of the
- 11:56Speaker 2: traditions and the cultures that exist in each country and
- 11:58Speaker 2: in each city are you and so growing up in Melbourne,
- 12:02Speaker 2: going shows in Melbourne, and then getting to come back
- 12:04Speaker 2: home and play a show in Melbourne after you've been
- 12:06Speaker 2: in all these different places and experiences, all these different
- 12:08Speaker 2: colors and flavors of what it means.
- 12:10Speaker 1: To play a heavy show. It's like you just get.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Reminded of all those extra little things that make it
- 12:16Speaker 2: that extra little bit special that without stepping away from it,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you kind of take for granted and you sort of
- 12:22Speaker 2: forget about until you return and.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Go, oh, that's what makes Melbourne special. Oh, that's what
- 12:26Speaker 1: makes Brisbane special.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Oh that's what makes us makes Australia special, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 2: And you can sometimes get lost in it if you
- 12:32Speaker 2: just you know, if you're not yes, taking a step
- 12:35Speaker 2: back and realizing that everywhere special, you know, and home
- 12:39Speaker 2: is special, so and you forget.
- 12:41Speaker 3: In the bed mate. Yeah, your own's bed. Nothing beats
- 12:43Speaker 3: your own.
- 12:43Speaker 1: That's it nothing, that's it fresh sheets.
- 12:50Speaker 4: When I said before, it's been a massive couple of
- 12:51Speaker 4: years for you guys, made like I wanted only talking
- 12:53Speaker 4: in terms of being a touring band, because earlier this
- 12:56Speaker 4: year some pretty special lap had made it and also
- 12:58Speaker 4: well deserved, Like.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You guys one of the most Performed.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Hard Rock Heavy Metalwork Award at the twenty twenty six
- 13:04Speaker 4: Apple Music Awards, made like it's a great reward for effort,
- 13:07Speaker 4: but that award mean to you as a band, Like,
- 13:10Speaker 4: did it take a while to seek him?
- 13:13Speaker 1: I think, yeah, it did.
- 13:16Speaker 2: You know, We've been doing this thing for over ten years,
- 13:18Speaker 2: fifteen years now, and I think yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I think it's always.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Been a point of frustration that heavy music has kind
- 13:27Speaker 2: of always felt quite neglected.
- 13:30Speaker 1: When it's come to awards.
- 13:33Speaker 2: It almost seems like, you know that that's South Park
- 13:36Speaker 2: episode where it's you know, Jimmy Awards, all the awards
- 13:41Speaker 2: for the you know, the best comedy sort of thing.
- 13:43Speaker 2: It's almost like it's almost like when you're in the
- 13:45Speaker 2: hardcore and heavy scene, so it's like we don't even
- 13:48Speaker 2: really want the awards, but there's still a part of
- 13:49Speaker 2: us that go, no, but hang on, we should be included,
- 13:52Speaker 2: Like why why aren't we included? It'd be nice And
- 13:57Speaker 2: so I think it was one of those moments where
- 13:59Speaker 2: we sort of went like fuck, yeah, you know, like
- 14:01Speaker 2: that's that's kind of that is nice to be.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Acknowledged for something and on really like.
- 14:07Speaker 2: The biggest, the biggest stage in other than obviously the
- 14:09Speaker 2: areas you know, in terms of a songwriting and composing
- 14:13Speaker 2: sort of that's like, you know, that's as big as
- 14:15Speaker 2: it gets in Australia and so to be recognized on
- 14:17Speaker 2: that level was a huge deal. We've never received we've
- 14:22Speaker 2: never been to any event with a red carpet, so
- 14:25Speaker 2: it was not only that, but you know, we walked
- 14:27Speaker 2: away with the water as well, and so definitely a
- 14:29Speaker 2: huge moment for the band, something you know, very much
- 14:32Speaker 2: worth celebrating for kind of all the hard work and
- 14:34Speaker 2: not just the band, but the team and you know,
- 14:36Speaker 2: everyone behind the scenes. It's sort of you know B
- 14:39Speaker 2: and G and the straw Lines and everyone else that sort.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Of helped us sort of get there.
- 14:45Speaker 2: It is worth celebrating and acknowledging, and you know, that's
- 14:49Speaker 2: that's definitely.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I think what we take away.
- 14:52Speaker 2: From that is that like it just feels like a
- 14:55Speaker 2: nice like thumbs up, like a message of like keep going,
- 14:59Speaker 2: like keep at at which sometimes is easy.
- 15:01Speaker 1: To forget that you know, in your own heart, you
- 15:03Speaker 1: sort of when.
- 15:03Speaker 2: The chips are low, it's sort of like, oh, well,
- 15:06Speaker 2: you know, maybe maybe this is it. You know, maybe
- 15:09Speaker 2: maybe there's you know, who knows, like things are getting hard,
- 15:12Speaker 2: last getting hard, like who knows how long this is
- 15:14Speaker 2: going to go on? But you sort of you get
- 15:15Speaker 2: something like that that sort of makes you realize like, oh,
- 15:18Speaker 2: people are paying attention. You know, people are recognizing the efforts,
- 15:21Speaker 2: and it doesn't go unseen. And if that's just all
- 15:24Speaker 2: that that really is recognizing and I know that it's
- 15:28Speaker 2: so much more than that, but that's enough, I think
- 15:29Speaker 2: for me and for us to sort of walk away
- 15:31Speaker 2: and go, you know, sweet, like that's that's really cool.
- 15:34Speaker 4: I've read through the press release before this made, and
- 15:37Speaker 4: there's there's a part in one of them that describes
- 15:39Speaker 4: the band as an electric trio of.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Misfits comes up. The band perfectly made, like in a
- 15:45Speaker 3: nice way, that's.
- 15:46Speaker 2: The perfectly hope you guys yeah, No, I think that
- 15:49Speaker 2: is that's that is a compliment because we you know,
- 15:52Speaker 2: we've all come at this from a different angle. We're
- 15:54Speaker 2: all very different people in ways and then very similar
- 15:56Speaker 2: in others. And I think we pride ourselves on the
- 15:59Speaker 2: fact that our music, our personalities don't don't necessarily fit
- 16:03Speaker 2: into anyone box. And I think that's something that a
- 16:06Speaker 2: lot of our fans gravitate towards. I think, no sound,
- 16:11Speaker 2: no person should be one dimensional.
- 16:14Speaker 1: We are all unique in our sort of multifaceted ways.
- 16:17Speaker 2: And I think by embracing that, rather than trying to
- 16:23Speaker 2: mold yourself and your music into some kind of box,
- 16:27Speaker 2: has been you know, a key feature of Ocean Growth
- 16:31Speaker 2: music and our ethos for years and years, and so
- 16:35Speaker 2: for that to be celebrated and to be recognized and
- 16:38Speaker 2: people to sort of kind of get it, you know,
- 16:40Speaker 2: because not everyone's going to get that from the get go.
- 16:42Speaker 2: It's sort of going to be weird, it's going to
- 16:43Speaker 2: be a little bit you know, it's going to push
- 16:45Speaker 2: the boundaries of people's expectations and things. But I think
- 16:48Speaker 2: as time goes on, we we've just we've had.
- 16:52Speaker 1: To encourage ourselves. But then we've started to feel.
- 16:54Speaker 2: As showers get bigger and the audiences get bigger and
- 16:57Speaker 2: the online just sort of encouragement things people really resonating
- 17:00Speaker 2: with the music and they aren't and everything, you start
- 17:03Speaker 2: to see that like, oh, there is a massive audience
- 17:06Speaker 2: for this out there, and it's all the more reason
- 17:10Speaker 2: to just stick at that sort of way of thinking.
- 17:13Speaker 2: And so an eclectic tree of misfits is like, yeah,
- 17:16Speaker 2: well that's that is too young and where we were
- 17:19Speaker 2: wanting to embrace that as summer. As much as another
- 17:22Speaker 2: group of individuals might go, oh, you know, I don't
- 17:24Speaker 2: I don't be seen like that, you know.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Like that's that's sort of a weird thing to say,
- 17:27Speaker 1: we sort of go, oh no, that's that's actually that's pretty.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Perfect, and we're gonna, we're gonna we're going to double
- 17:32Speaker 2: down on that, you know.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So that's what it's all about.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I was reading through a bit further Made and
- 17:38Speaker 4: it's said, I quote, it's said, Ocean Grove are held
- 17:42Speaker 4: by invention thinking and staggering creativity that transcends definitions and
- 17:47Speaker 4: defies musical norms.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:49Speaker 4: As impressive as that may sound, made, what the fuck
- 17:51Speaker 4: does that even mean?
- 17:55Speaker 1: I know that's a bit of a mouthful, and I mean.
- 17:57Speaker 3: I started halfway through get through it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: We'll clearly we've got a good br agent. You know.
- 18:04Speaker 2: It's appealing, appealing to the to the well read in
- 18:09Speaker 2: the universe.
- 18:10Speaker 1: No, I think it's just I think it's just a
- 18:12Speaker 1: fancy way of saying.
- 18:14Speaker 2: That will will always will always be aspiring to, you know,
- 18:21Speaker 2: write music and create that.
- 18:23Speaker 1: That does sort of what I was touching on it.
- 18:26Speaker 2: It kind of fuses ideas, fuses sounds that should otherwise
- 18:32Speaker 2: be contradictory or shouldn't go together, you know, finding finding
- 18:38Speaker 2: ways to marry an energy with the sound that would.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Otherwise not happen.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I think with our live performance, I think that's a
- 18:49Speaker 2: really great example of that is that I think the
- 18:52Speaker 2: energy that we bring to our live show, I think
- 18:57Speaker 2: encompasses what our music is intending to do, but gets
- 19:01Speaker 2: it to the sort of the finish line. I think
- 19:03Speaker 2: our music in and of itself only expresses a good
- 19:08Speaker 2: maybe sixty seventy percent of what Ocean Grove is trying
- 19:11Speaker 2: to do here, and the other thirty forty of what
- 19:14Speaker 2: we're doing I think really comes alive when we're on stage,
- 19:20Speaker 2: and I feel that I think a lot of people
- 19:22Speaker 2: that come to the shows feel that is that the yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 2: the gaps in between get filled and ever, I think
- 19:29Speaker 2: everything all of a sudden starts to make sense in
- 19:31Speaker 2: a really big way.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Because there's a unless you're walking around with you know,
- 19:39Speaker 1: a PA.
- 19:39Speaker 2: I mean we kind of are, but you know, unless
- 19:41Speaker 2: you're walking around with a nice big sub and a
- 19:43Speaker 2: PA in your back pocket, Like there's there's a there's
- 19:47Speaker 2: an energy and a hit to some of these you
- 19:49Speaker 2: know songs that we've written that like, unless you're there
- 19:52Speaker 2: in the room with us and like really feeling that
- 19:55Speaker 2: grit and that you know, and that literal energy that's
- 19:58Speaker 2: bouncing off the walls, bouncing off each other, hitting you
- 20:01Speaker 2: in the chest, and I'm there, you know, yelling in
- 20:02Speaker 2: your face.
- 20:03Speaker 1: And there's people you know, crowdsurfing at the top and everything.
- 20:06Speaker 2: It's like that that's the extra like juice that that
- 20:10Speaker 2: really brings home this idea of ocean growers that like
- 20:13Speaker 2: you might hear the sound and think, oh that that
- 20:16Speaker 2: that's probably created by a certain individual. And then I
- 20:19Speaker 2: get up there and I'm jumping around like a you know,
- 20:21Speaker 2: a bit of a you know a circus. You go,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I didn't expect that, and then all of a sudden,
- 20:27Speaker 2: there you go, boom, like your expectations are blown out
- 20:30Speaker 2: of the water and you're there for it. You know,
- 20:31Speaker 2: it's something you haven't seen before, something you haven't felt before,
- 20:33Speaker 2: and that's a beautiful thing to capture and to sort of,
- 20:37Speaker 2: you know, elicit in someone who's gone out for just
- 20:39Speaker 2: another night and a Friday night, not knowing what to expect,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and they walk away gone, fuck like that might be
- 20:44Speaker 2: one of my new favorite bands. And it happens all
- 20:46Speaker 2: the time. They come up to this uf the show gone.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I had no idea, it came up with no expectations.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I'm hearing you know, fucking Belgium. And then now all
- 20:52Speaker 2: of a sudden I discovered my favorite band from Australia.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And you go, well, isn't that amazing?
- 20:57Speaker 4: I would say, what is amazing, mate, is you're a
- 20:59Speaker 4: fucking champion. I've thrown so many curveballs are you? And
- 21:02Speaker 4: every one of them.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You just fucking bat them straight out of the park.
- 21:05Speaker 3: You're not pased by anything.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Ah, No, it's all good. We're chilling.
- 21:11Speaker 4: You tell me that night and then the awards made
- 21:13Speaker 4: that you're going to use your downside to maybe write
- 21:15Speaker 4: some music.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Yes, did that happen.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yep, that's definitely been happening.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I had a nice little you know, Sam, Sam's he's
- 21:23Speaker 2: the you know, there's no no sugar coating it.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Sam is definitely the man at the you know, at
- 21:29Speaker 1: the control panel with that one.
- 21:31Speaker 2: So I knew that, you know, this time for all
- 21:34Speaker 2: of us was all going to look a bit different,
- 21:36Speaker 2: and for Sam it's been really great to know. We
- 21:39Speaker 2: had a chat the other day and he sort of said, look,
- 21:40Speaker 2: you know, I've taken the time to really get my
- 21:43Speaker 2: my ducks in a row when it comes to my
- 21:44Speaker 2: production world, which he has. You know, he started recording
- 21:47Speaker 2: and working with you know, some of and most of
- 21:49Speaker 2: the biggest bands in the heavy world of today, which
- 21:52Speaker 2: is amazing to see to see where he's come from
- 21:54Speaker 2: all these years, you know, starting with Black Label and
- 21:57Speaker 2: recording Black Label and rhaps he taps with us to
- 21:59Speaker 2: now recording songs and albums of the likes of you know,
- 22:03Speaker 2: Amme and Architects and whoever else. So it's it's amazing
- 22:07Speaker 2: to see how Fay he's come with his production and
- 22:09Speaker 2: to know that he's taken this time to really focus
- 22:12Speaker 2: on that and get that in order as his side hustle,
- 22:15Speaker 2: you know, whilst we're doing our otion growth thing. And
- 22:18Speaker 2: then the other aspect of that was he sort of
- 22:20Speaker 2: pulled me aside when you know, there's there's been some
- 22:23Speaker 2: new music being written as well, and I sort of thought, oh, beauty,
- 22:25Speaker 2: Like I kind of just had to let that be
- 22:28Speaker 2: because sometimes you don't.
- 22:30Speaker 1: You can't force these things.
- 22:31Speaker 2: And I knew that there will be a time when
- 22:34Speaker 2: we all get back in the studio and we collaborate,
- 22:36Speaker 2: we work on these things. But Sam's off on the
- 22:38Speaker 2: one that is kind of bringing the you know, the
- 22:40Speaker 2: bulk of ideas to the table and then we go, right, okay,
- 22:43Speaker 2: this is sort of the vibe we're going for now,
- 22:45Speaker 2: let's now, let's cook. So he sort of showed me
- 22:49Speaker 2: a few ideas, and you know, he had a nice
- 22:51Speaker 2: big list of downloaded, you know, songs that he's sort
- 22:55Speaker 2: of at least in part written instrumentally, some maladies and things.
- 22:59Speaker 2: But it was enough to show me two or three
- 23:00Speaker 2: is enough to catch a vibe and sort of know.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Well, yeah, definitely on the right track here. This is exciting.
- 23:05Speaker 2: So definitely new music on the horizon and very much.
- 23:10Speaker 2: You know, obviously is a is a follow up to
- 23:14Speaker 2: Odd World, and people are going to have their you know,
- 23:17Speaker 2: guesses and expectations of what that might be.
- 23:19Speaker 1: But I think, you know, I'm very excited.
- 23:22Speaker 2: I think it's it's no no to Ocean Group albums
- 23:25Speaker 2: that are ever the same, So it's not going to
- 23:26Speaker 2: be just a replica of Odd World. But I I
- 23:29Speaker 2: know my heart that this is this is going to
- 23:30Speaker 2: be the yeah, the perfect next step, and very excited
- 23:33Speaker 2: for it.
- 23:34Speaker 3: People want to know more about the chur and get tickets.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Where do they go?
- 23:38Speaker 2: Yes, so if you want tickets, they're available officially via ostics,
- 23:44Speaker 2: but you can find the link at our Instagram bio.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Or you know, Facebook sort of bio. I guess stories
- 23:54Speaker 1: you can literally yeah, it's just for all lines as
- 23:56Speaker 1: as you go on that website. You know, there's plenty
- 23:58Speaker 1: plenty of advisues to find it. I mean with bloody
- 23:59Speaker 1: Goo AI And now I'm sure if you just typed
- 24:01Speaker 1: in Ocean Grove, I was too it had you point
- 24:04Speaker 1: in the right direction. So now it's gonna be a
- 24:06Speaker 1: lot of fun tonight.
- 24:07Speaker 2: It's looking like it'll be a sold out show and
- 24:10Speaker 2: a few of the others too, are running pretty close.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I think both Melbourne and Brisbane might have you know,
- 24:15Speaker 2: a round about one hundred tickets left, so definitely, you know,
- 24:19Speaker 2: those that are sort of thinking about and still on
- 24:20Speaker 2: the fence best to probably grab a ticket before the
- 24:23Speaker 2: night because no guarantee.
- 24:25Speaker 4: At this point she told me to pleasure Chat that
- 24:29Speaker 4: I want to see you brit
