- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on? Everybody? It's Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan.
- 0:16Speaker 2: We are still going inside the.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Eagles depth chart at every position, and we've come to
- 0:21Speaker 1: a position, Adam now.
- 0:22Speaker 2: That I actually enjoy talking about.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And that's kind of crazy, right, because for as long
- 0:27Speaker 1: as we've done this and tried to do position by
- 0:30Speaker 1: position previews and intel on the Eagles, whenever you got
- 0:33Speaker 1: to off ball linebacker or middle linebacker, whatever you wanted
- 0:36Speaker 1: to call it. Back in the day, it would be like,
- 0:37Speaker 1: all right, or four to three outside linebacker, let's.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Talk about the guys.
- 0:42Speaker 1: But now, I wonder for anyone who was sort of
- 0:45Speaker 1: became an Eagles fan right after Jeremiah Trotter's heyday. So
- 0:49Speaker 1: let's say people who became Eagles fans two thousand and six,
- 0:52Speaker 1: two and seven, you know, until now or until a
- 0:55Speaker 1: couple of years ago, they witnessed some of the worst,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you know, off ball linebacker and he was so this
- 1:01Speaker 1: must be for them, what like the Buddy years were
- 1:05Speaker 1: like for people who really like defense because they had
- 1:07Speaker 1: good linebackers back then.
- 1:08Speaker 2: But it was a long time.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Oh God, Joiner and you go through the list. Yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 3: but it was so dry after that. I mean, it
- 1:15Speaker 3: was just the decades of futility at linebackers.
- 1:20Speaker 4: It's kind of funny because I.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Remember, you know, like three or four years ago, I
- 1:23Speaker 3: remember saying on this show fulk we promise you that
- 1:27Speaker 3: this group will not embarrass you anymore. We don't know
- 1:29Speaker 3: how good they would be, but we knew they were
- 1:31Speaker 3: gonna better than they've had in years. And yeah, and
- 1:33Speaker 3: then the Zach Bond revelation, I mean, who the hell
- 1:35Speaker 3: knew this is gonna happen. It just was ridiculously great.
- 1:39Speaker 3: He's been one of the best linebackers in football overall.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's hard to believe.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Now.
- 1:44Speaker 3: So as we go through this, your your starters are
- 1:46Speaker 3: obvious Bond and Campbell.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Campbell.
- 1:49Speaker 3: The question is now that he's had his both shoulders
- 1:53Speaker 3: fixed over a two year period, when he's ready, is
- 1:58Speaker 3: this cure?
- 1:59Speaker 4: Everything? Is this okay?
- 2:01Speaker 3: No more problems like you never know what you could
- 2:03Speaker 3: always have a setback? Right is You're gonna be okay?
- 2:05Speaker 3: So you're worry about that. But this opportunity now though,
- 2:09Speaker 3: for guys like Jeremiah Trotta Junior, who behind the scenes
- 2:12Speaker 3: is we know it look pretty good, but a good
- 2:14Speaker 3: special teams player sa mile Mon, And who's who's bigger physically?
- 2:19Speaker 3: Chance Campbell, who's with Bobby King, the Eagles linebackers coach
- 2:23Speaker 3: with the Titans. He's got really good athleticism, he's a
- 2:26Speaker 3: long lots of injuries. So it's and Deontay Lawson, who's
- 2:30Speaker 3: a very talented linebacker from Alabama who went through his
- 2:34Speaker 3: injuries stuff. That's why he wasn't drafted. So the thing
- 2:38Speaker 3: is right now they've got an opportunity to look at
- 2:41Speaker 3: a lot of these young kids in the off season program.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely looking forward to it. It's you know, you
- 2:48Speaker 1: mentioned Chance Campbell. This guy's like a Scout team legend, right,
- 2:51Speaker 1: and people speak lowingly of just how hard he goes
- 2:55Speaker 1: out and practice, and you need those kind of guys,
- 2:58Speaker 1: especially for special teams. It'll be interesting, Adam with we
- 3:01Speaker 1: keep saying how many guys you can keep at certain
- 3:04Speaker 1: positions that you don't particularly value.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Not that they don't value off ball linebacker anymore.
- 3:09Speaker 1: They clearly show that they paid Zach baughd top market
- 3:12Speaker 1: money and they use the first round pick on Campbell,
- 3:14Speaker 1: But how many of those guys are they going to
- 3:16Speaker 1: keep if they're going heavy at other areas is a
- 3:18Speaker 1: big question.
- 3:20Speaker 2: But to start at the top, you know, Zach. To
- 3:24Speaker 2: see the Eagles give.
- 3:25Speaker 1: A top market extension to an off ball linebacker and
- 3:28Speaker 1: then draft one in the first round in successive years
- 3:31Speaker 1: really just shows you how far this scheme has come
- 3:35Speaker 1: and Vic Fangio's role in it.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Now.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm not saying Vic Fangio tells Howie who to draft
- 3:40Speaker 1: or has influence, but they how he has done a
- 3:42Speaker 1: good job of giving Fangio what he needs to make
- 3:45Speaker 1: the scheme work.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And if that meant taking.
- 3:48Speaker 1: A linebacker in the first round off ball linebacker, he
- 3:50Speaker 1: did it. If it meant extending Zach Bahn to top
- 3:53Speaker 1: market money, he did it. This will actually be the
- 3:56Speaker 1: third year of that three year contract, if I'm not
- 3:59Speaker 1: mistaken at him.
- 4:00Speaker 2: So the future of.
- 4:01Speaker 1: This position is pretty much something we should explore and
- 4:05Speaker 1: talk about because I believe he gets to thirty, if
- 4:08Speaker 1: he's not already, he is at that age where typically
- 4:12Speaker 1: the Eagles start to get concerned about wear and tear
- 4:15Speaker 1: and the future of a player.
- 4:16Speaker 2: And then that additional contract.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you should know they did an adjustment recently on
- 4:21Speaker 3: Bond's contract.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Twenty eight has got a little bit of salary.
- 4:25Speaker 3: So the way I understand it, like if he wants
- 4:28Speaker 3: to come back after twenty seven, they'd have to redo it.
- 4:31Speaker 3: This is typical of the way that they've done a
- 4:32Speaker 3: lot of these extensions with older players, right. But he's
- 4:35Speaker 3: been he's been, to be honest with you, he's been
- 4:39Speaker 3: one of the You can't give how We all the
- 4:41Speaker 3: credit because he signed him, but he didn't sign him
- 4:43Speaker 3: for the position he's playing. But he just looked at
- 4:46Speaker 3: the success of Bond. It's right up there. It's not
- 4:50Speaker 3: quite because he's a football player comparably to my lotta,
- 4:53Speaker 3: but it's as unexpected as anything we've seen in a
- 4:57Speaker 3: long time. All around great guy, I mean, really class
- 5:01Speaker 3: human being. Never really developed as an edge rusher with
- 5:06Speaker 3: New Orleans, very very limited snaps as a linebacker, very limited.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Snaps, more of an edge rusher.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Okay was signed here to play edge backup edge minimum deal,
- 5:16Speaker 3: by the way, vetteran minimum dealt No one thought anything
- 5:21Speaker 3: of them. Probably wasn't gonna be here after a year.
- 5:23Speaker 3: This is just another one of those one year deals. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 3: so unexpected to be one of the best players of
- 5:28Speaker 3: his position. You can't make it up. And it does
- 5:31Speaker 3: not happen with Vic Fangio. Fancio saw something no other
- 5:34Speaker 3: team saw, correct.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Including Tennis Allen Right, who was his CHI coordinator in
- 5:40Speaker 1: New Orleans, who is a very good defensive coordinator. So
- 5:44Speaker 1: that just shows you just how second level Fangio was
- 5:48Speaker 1: in seeing this in Zach Bond that another guy who's
- 5:50Speaker 1: a really good defensive mind didn't. By the way, if
- 5:53Speaker 1: you're thinking about hitting any away games this season, check
- 5:56Speaker 1: out Eagles Fan Travel. They put together full weekend experiences
- 6:01Speaker 1: for Eagles fans. That's flights, hotels, game tickets, tailgates, exclusive events,
- 6:06Speaker 1: even appearances from former players. It's honestly one of the
- 6:09Speaker 1: coolest ways to experience an away game. Head to Philadelphia
- 6:13Speaker 1: Eagles dot com slash travel to secure your spot.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:16Speaker 3: So Bond's got ideal that Another thing that he's really
- 6:20Speaker 3: good with.
- 6:20Speaker 4: We don't talk about it enough.
- 6:22Speaker 3: It's all tape based, of course, is that he's phenomenal coverage,
- 6:26Speaker 3: one of the best linebacker coverage linebackers, and he's got length, yes,
- 6:30Speaker 3: and he could rush the passer.
- 6:31Speaker 4: He's just it's just one of these things.
- 6:34Speaker 3: And if Bonce talked about it, you know why he
- 6:36Speaker 3: hadn't played linebacker before. It's because they didn't really see
- 6:40Speaker 3: him as a linebacker as he wasn't one really at
- 6:42Speaker 3: at Wisconsin. Right, So here we are, so you know,
- 6:46Speaker 3: he's firmly entrenched. You know, it's a shame that Campbell's
- 6:50Speaker 3: missing all these valuable snaps. That's not good. He's a
- 6:54Speaker 3: full time linebacker. As we said on the previous show,
- 6:56Speaker 3: with edge rushers, he's not going to be playing edge.
- 6:59Speaker 4: That's not happening. They don't, but they have no room
- 7:00Speaker 4: for him now. They literally have no room for him.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So, I mean, he can't rush the passer every once
- 7:05Speaker 3: in a while, but he's not going to play the
- 7:06Speaker 3: tr edge. In fact, last year he wasn't really a
- 7:08Speaker 3: true edge when he did it. He was an added
- 7:11Speaker 3: defender against the run. As Greco's Heel pointed out, he
- 7:13Speaker 3: really wasn't what he goes. He's not doing what you
- 7:15Speaker 3: think he's really doing. The tape shows this, right.
- 7:17Speaker 2: The objective for Jahad Campbell, well it's twofold. One is
- 7:21Speaker 2: to stay healthy. Be healthy.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He's got to get over these shoulder issues that he's had.
- 7:25Speaker 1: But two, assuming full health is he's got to learn
- 7:29Speaker 1: how to play downhill. Both in the run, getting off blocks,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and then also in getting downhill as a sim pressure
- 7:38Speaker 1: blitzer the way Nikobe Dean did. Now he may never reach.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Nikobe Dean was on another level last year. I've never
- 7:45Speaker 1: seen a guy his size who is constantly beat up
- 7:49Speaker 1: just be able to truck really good running backs and
- 7:53Speaker 1: pass protection.
- 7:53Speaker 2: We're talking about like Josh.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Jacobs and David Montgomery. I mean he he, he did
- 7:58Speaker 1: to them what no one's smith was doing, the pulling
- 8:01Speaker 1: guards like Tray Smith and Elton Jenkins. So it was
- 8:04Speaker 1: really fun to see. And that's a unique trait. It's
- 8:07Speaker 1: not even some really good linebackers in the NFL don't
- 8:11Speaker 1: do it that good of a job of getting downhill,
- 8:14Speaker 1: blowing up blitz protection, pass protection and getting to the quarterback.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I don't know if John will ever be like that.
- 8:21Speaker 1: But one thing John really excels at Adam and you
- 8:24Speaker 1: saw that is and you saw it from the opener
- 8:27Speaker 1: right is range speed athleticism. I remember him, you know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: covering the alley on a deep post in the season
- 8:35Speaker 1: opener against the Cowboys, breaking up a pass to Ferguson.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That was a really nice throw from Dak. But Campbell's
- 8:41Speaker 1: with him stride for stride. Those are the elements of
- 8:44Speaker 1: the game that I think he's actually better, a little
- 8:46Speaker 1: better at than Ni Kobe. So if he can become
- 8:48Speaker 1: more of a downhill player and put it all together
- 8:51Speaker 1: here in year three, you might have a real special talent.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And then to go back to balling what you were saying,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back to that Dallas game again. You
- 8:59Speaker 1: remember Miles Sanders breaking a tackle, scampering up the left
- 9:02Speaker 1: side and almost having a touchdown until a two hundred
- 9:06Speaker 1: and twenty five pound linebacker chased them down from behind
- 9:09Speaker 1: and tackled him, and then they wound up turning all
- 9:11Speaker 1: over on the next play. So we all had concerns
- 9:14Speaker 1: going into last year. A little bit of is that
- 9:17Speaker 1: knduct won't do this again? Was that just a oh
- 9:20Speaker 1: I remember that discussion? Yeah, why not start? No, No,
- 9:24Speaker 1: he's the gifts are there, man, He's good.
- 9:27Speaker 4: It's it's you know what this is gonna be a
- 9:29Speaker 4: little extreme bit. Work with me on this.
- 9:31Speaker 3: It's a little bit like all the Christopher Sanchez was
- 9:33Speaker 3: a pitcher when you when they when the Phillies made
- 9:37Speaker 3: that trade with the d Rays, it was Curtis the
- 9:40Speaker 3: Immortal Curtis met who still round. By the way, Yeah,
- 9:43Speaker 3: both teams, they just they were after thoughts. No one
- 9:46Speaker 3: had any thought that Christopher Sanchez would be anything that
- 9:49Speaker 3: a middle reliever right long arm, never make it as a.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Starter, correct.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Now, great coaching by the way, with Caleb Cotham, the
- 9:56Speaker 3: Phillies' pitching coach.
- 9:57Speaker 4: That's why coaching matters. I get it.
- 9:59Speaker 3: It's players want one coaches one a in some cases
- 10:04Speaker 3: coaches one over player in terms of understanding. I see
- 10:07Speaker 3: something you don't see about yourself in the NFL. Yeah,
- 10:11Speaker 3: bringing back to Fanow Bobby King. Another thing, does this
- 10:13Speaker 3: happen with that Bobby King?
- 10:15Speaker 2: That's a great question.
- 10:17Speaker 1: He's been He's been a tremendous coach. And it's not
- 10:20Speaker 1: just because his players are succeeding. His players often talk
- 10:24Speaker 1: about his coaching, his block destruction principles, his techniques. And
- 10:31Speaker 1: the amazing part of that is this is the only
- 10:33Speaker 1: position coach who had no connection to Vic Fangio. So
- 10:37Speaker 1: you can't even say it's like a Tangi influence thing.
- 10:40Speaker 1: But I remember a couple of people in the building,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, a couple of years ago just saying, Hey,
- 10:46Speaker 1: this guy is the real that.
- 10:47Speaker 2: You can see it. You can see the way he
- 10:49Speaker 2: drills his guys. They like him.
- 10:51Speaker 1: He's sort of like the poor man's or the lesser
- 10:54Speaker 1: known just Stoutland of off ball linebacker coaching because he's
- 10:58Speaker 1: done a good job with a variety of different guys
- 11:00Speaker 1: from a variety of different pedigrees, draft backgrounds, and they
- 11:03Speaker 1: all speak very highly of him. So I don't, I know,
- 11:06Speaker 1: we shouldn't throw around the old Jeff Stealtlin labeled you know,
- 11:10Speaker 1: loosely there, but honestly, I mean, Zach Band's a great
- 11:13Speaker 1: Zach Ballan is a Jordan my Lota in some regards
- 11:16Speaker 1: that guy and nobody thought could do it, and there
- 11:18Speaker 1: he is doing it.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a great story. So there.
- 11:21Speaker 3: And another thing is they I'd have to look it up,
- 11:24Speaker 3: but just off hand, I got there very many. Starting
- 11:27Speaker 3: as Vic calls some ILB duos, he doesn't like the
- 11:30Speaker 3: term off ball linebacker.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Although they are.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Of over six foot two. Both are over six foot two.
- 11:35Speaker 3: You just don't see that, right. That's to have the
- 11:39Speaker 3: height and length. Some length is really important if you
- 11:43Speaker 3: have it. Now. The only thing about Campbell is again
- 11:46Speaker 3: because he's not gonna be working keep practicing. It's he
- 11:50Speaker 3: needs the reps. And greg O Stell talked about this.
- 11:55Speaker 3: What made the and elite when healthy is his instincts.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It just some guys who have a knack bond actually
- 12:02Speaker 3: has it, which you knew the hell would have known this.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Campbell's still relatively new to inside backers, so not getting
- 12:08Speaker 3: these wraps is it's not good for his development. And
- 12:12Speaker 3: folks are just gonna have to be patient. Whenever he
- 12:14Speaker 3: starts practicing, he's gonna have to be put on the
- 12:16Speaker 3: fast track.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yep.
- 12:18Speaker 3: And you're just gonna have to see there're gonna be
- 12:20Speaker 3: some place he's just not gonna be able to make
- 12:21Speaker 3: because he hadn't had that practice time.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I mean it's really I think we talked about this
- 12:26Speaker 1: in the D Line pod. It kind of sucks when
- 12:30Speaker 1: two staples of your interior defense, your your top flight
- 12:34Speaker 1: defensive tackle and one of your off ball linebackers both
- 12:38Speaker 1: have shoulder injuries and both shoulders right, because I think
- 12:41Speaker 1: Campbell with both shoulders that.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He's had both yet and by the way, the.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Biggest injuries for linebackers overall, particularly middle linebackers. In this
- 12:51Speaker 3: case of thirty four inside backer or shoulder injuries. I
- 12:55Speaker 3: know that for a fact that those are the biggest
- 12:57Speaker 3: injuries shoulder than arm, like biceps, triceps, stuff like that.
- 13:03Speaker 3: And that's this just now he's had both done here.
- 13:06Speaker 3: That's disappointing, and you just have to hope. And there's
- 13:10Speaker 3: a reason why he dropped in the draft. Who where
- 13:11Speaker 3: the Eagles were able to get him. You just hope
- 13:14Speaker 3: that this is it, like, Okay, they've got this taken
- 13:16Speaker 3: care of. He's got to protect himself the best he can.
- 13:19Speaker 3: There's only so much you could do with traffic coming
- 13:21Speaker 3: at you. And then the second group, Mont's got length,
- 13:26Speaker 3: Trotchun you're smaller, but really instinctive sexually. No. Monond really
- 13:31Speaker 3: hasn't played, so you don't know, and Trotun you're barely played.
- 13:34Speaker 3: But you feel good about that because of where they
- 13:37Speaker 3: went to school, how they were thought of coming into
- 13:39Speaker 3: the draft, But you don't know until they have to play.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you could.
- 13:42Speaker 1: There were times last year and the preseason is really
- 13:44Speaker 1: the only extended look that we have with those guys
- 13:46Speaker 1: where you could tell that Mandan's athleticism was his hallmark,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and that really showed also on special teams as far
- 13:53Speaker 1: as playing the position. And again, it's hard to make
- 13:55Speaker 1: much of preseason, but I do remember just making mental
- 13:59Speaker 1: notes of some struggles as far as getting downhill, getting
- 14:01Speaker 1: the run, getting off blocks. He is a smaller, faster guy,
- 14:06Speaker 1: so I shouldn't say smaller, but under for lighter, lighter,
- 14:09Speaker 1: faster guy. Same thing that was said about Nacoby as
- 14:13Speaker 1: far as you know, being built for the long haul
- 14:15Speaker 1: of the NFL. But he hasn't had to play a
- 14:17Speaker 1: whole lot of snaps. So those guys will get plenty
- 14:21Speaker 1: of run this preseason. You're right on Trotter. I mean
- 14:24Speaker 1: the instincts is there developments there be. It's very interesting
- 14:27Speaker 1: that the Eagles, even with the Nacobe and the Jahad
- 14:30Speaker 1: Campbell injuries, really haven't had to go into their deeper
- 14:35Speaker 1: into their their depth chart to call on those guys to.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Have to play significant amount snaps.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Yeah, and then well, speaking of that, so I know
- 14:43Speaker 3: some people think they should sign a veteran. Here's the
- 14:46Speaker 3: reason why they don't have to do it. It's not
- 14:47Speaker 3: like Campbell won't be ready for the regular season. If
- 14:49Speaker 3: for some reason he wasn't. If they if they thought
- 14:52Speaker 3: he might not be back until late August, different story.
- 14:55Speaker 3: You probably need to bring in a veteran, Yeah, could
- 14:57Speaker 3: you really? Because he hold him so much time, he's
- 15:00Speaker 3: going to be so behind as long as he's back
- 15:02Speaker 3: sometime for training camp. He doesn't he doesn't necessarily have
- 15:06Speaker 3: to play in the preseason. He just needs to get
- 15:08Speaker 3: practice time in. He's got to be he's got to
- 15:10Speaker 3: be on the field. But they don't need to do anything.
- 15:12Speaker 3: And Trop Junior is now in year three. Think they
- 15:15Speaker 3: think highly of them, and he's a guy that if
- 15:21Speaker 3: you need to play him, you play him. So they're
- 15:23Speaker 3: okay there where whereas at safety they don't really have
- 15:27Speaker 3: much of a choice. They kind of have to sign
- 15:28Speaker 3: a veteran at some point.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Right right, do you have Do I have any curiosity
- 15:34Speaker 1: about how this changeover from Nikobe to Jahad will go
- 15:37Speaker 1: from an overall impact on the defense the way Nikobe?
- 15:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I mean, oh yeah, I mean, look, okay,
- 15:44Speaker 3: so you gain size with Campbell, you gain physicality potential,
- 15:49Speaker 3: no question about it. But he doesn't have the instincts yet.
- 15:52Speaker 3: He just because he's new to the position, he's not
- 15:55Speaker 3: getting that practice time in, and you worry about it.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I mean, there's there's no question that it's it's it's
- 16:01Speaker 3: an issue. Yeah, and na Kobe one of the most
- 16:05Speaker 3: instinctive linebackers. This is year nine for US no offense
- 16:10Speaker 3: to t J. Edwards has turned out to be a
- 16:11Speaker 3: good player. It's got paid pretty well. The Kobe's a
- 16:14Speaker 3: better football player around.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, I think it's play.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's not as I mean that neither of
- 16:21Speaker 3: his guys pretty big at all. But Nakobe is just
- 16:25Speaker 3: made up for back to back major injuries. Okay, back
- 16:29Speaker 3: to back list frank rupture, Okay, the full blown rupture,
- 16:34Speaker 3: then a tourna a teller tenant. I mean, it doesn't
- 16:36Speaker 3: get any worse than that, and I would I would
- 16:39Speaker 3: love to know if anyone charts this thing, is it ever?
- 16:41Speaker 3: Has anyone ever had those injuries back to back and
- 16:43Speaker 3: come back the next year and been a great player.
- 16:45Speaker 2: It's a great question. That's a great question.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Possible, you would think.
- 16:49Speaker 5: But yeah, So if anybody started watching Eagles football right
- 16:53Speaker 5: around six o seven, if that's where their finship dates,
- 16:58Speaker 5: you remember when you know Jeremiah Trotter had moved on
- 17:02Speaker 5: and the Eagles were.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Experimenting with guys like Takeo Spikes, Bernie Simms right, and
- 17:08Speaker 1: then after that didn't work out, then they tried to
- 17:10Speaker 1: rely on on like Day three draft picks. So then
- 17:14Speaker 1: that bred the Omar Gaither, Jamar cha Akeem Jordan Era
- 17:19Speaker 1: and then you know, as things and then it got
- 17:22Speaker 1: it picked up a little bit when they won the
- 17:24Speaker 1: Super Bowl. They have Michael Kendricks and then Nigel Bradham.
- 17:26Speaker 1: They actually went out and spent you know, Jim Schwartz,
- 17:30Speaker 1: he brought some good linebacker play back to the Eagles,
- 17:32Speaker 1: but he had to develop it well.
- 17:34Speaker 2: It wasn't just natural.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Uh.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And then they went through another lull where it got
- 17:39Speaker 1: to like Nate Geary, right, or Nate Jerry, Nate Jerry,
- 17:43Speaker 1: And one year they're starting off ball linebackers were Nate Gary.
- 17:48Speaker 2: And Duke Riley. Do you how many people do you
- 17:51Speaker 2: think you even remember Duke?
- 17:53Speaker 3: I do from Atlanta, because I remember talking to someone
- 17:56Speaker 3: who was on the Falcons personnel step trying to get
- 17:58Speaker 3: information on him.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Yeah, and Duke thought he's a little bit better than
- 18:01Speaker 4: he was.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Yep.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Up till like a year or two ago he was
- 18:05Speaker 3: still playing. He really got credit. He's made some money.
- 18:07Speaker 2: He was a good special teamer.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I think that's where he med. He just shouldn't have
- 18:10Speaker 1: been a starting off ball linebacker.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Yeah, he kind of a journeyman. But yeah, and.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I give how he credit because as much as we
- 18:18Speaker 3: criticized him for ignoring the linebacker position, which look, I
- 18:22Speaker 3: hate to crank on our friend Joe Banner on this,
- 18:25Speaker 3: but Joe told us on our show that we teased him, like,
- 18:29Speaker 3: what the hell was with you in linebackers?
- 18:30Speaker 4: He goes, it was Darthrows.
- 18:31Speaker 3: We know they put their cash and cap at certain positions,
- 18:36Speaker 3: and then you know how he changed it up with
- 18:39Speaker 3: Saquon Barkley. Certainly not what they had done before. Put
- 18:42Speaker 3: money into the position running back. Hard to believe they
- 18:45Speaker 3: put draft resources into Campbell. They drafted b a linebacker,
- 18:49Speaker 3: not an edge rusher like he had he not had
- 18:51Speaker 3: the injuries, and they had not developed their edge group.
- 18:55Speaker 3: He might have seen some snaps at a true edge.
- 18:57Speaker 4: But not gonna happen.
- 18:58Speaker 3: No, So yeah, I you know, it shows that you're
- 19:02Speaker 3: willing to change it up. I never thought i'd see
- 19:04Speaker 3: that in the history of our show. I never thought
- 19:07Speaker 3: they'd put resources into linebacker and bought and look.
- 19:11Speaker 4: They didn't have any choice.
- 19:12Speaker 3: He was elite They had to put money into him,
- 19:15Speaker 3: seventeen million a year. They had to do it because
- 19:17Speaker 3: he was elite after he got the the low and
- 19:19Speaker 3: free agent deal to play edge. Well, once he got
- 19:23Speaker 3: thrown into to inside backer and played the elite, he saw
- 19:28Speaker 3: the light and.
- 19:29Speaker 2: How he learned.
- 19:29Speaker 4: So I give him credit.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Look, he was the one who didn't invest in it
- 19:33Speaker 3: and it cost him and he saw the light. Uh,
- 19:36Speaker 3: he changed it up. He's talked about it publicly with
- 19:39Speaker 3: the media, and I give him credit for that.
- 19:42Speaker 4: You gotta be you gotta evolve man.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yes, yes, all right, everybody, Just a quick break to
- 19:47Speaker 1: remind you if you haven't noticed, sun's coming out, it's
- 19:51Speaker 1: getting warmer, especially where we are in the Northeast. That
- 19:54Speaker 1: reminds you that summer's right around the corner. And with
- 19:57Speaker 1: late spring and summer come a ton of activities. I
- 20:00Speaker 1: know for me, and I'm sure just like everybody else.
- 20:03Speaker 1: You know, my kids play softball, I'm at tournaments every weekend,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and then there's gonna be barbecues. And I actually turn
- 20:10Speaker 1: fifty the big five OZ this year, along with many
- 20:13Speaker 1: of my friends, so I know there's gonna be a
- 20:14Speaker 1: lot of fiftieth birthday parties, and look, I know that
- 20:18Speaker 1: at these parties, I'm gonna have a few drinks. I'm
- 20:21Speaker 1: gonna want to have fun with my friends.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And now that I'm fifty, we're going to be fifty.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I know that I just don't feel as great the
- 20:29Speaker 1: next day, even if I just have a few drinks
- 20:32Speaker 1: the night before. So I tried this new product called
- 20:36Speaker 1: Cheers Restore. Okay, it restores how you feel the next morning.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You take it after your last drink before bed. It
- 20:46Speaker 1: works while you sleep, and their claim to fame is
- 20:49Speaker 1: that you feel fifty percent better the next morning or
- 20:53Speaker 1: your money back. So basically, if you have seven or
- 20:57Speaker 1: eight beers throughout a barbecue, then the next day you
- 21:01Speaker 1: may feel like you only had three or four. So basically,
- 21:05Speaker 1: Cheers Restore helps you metabolize alcohol more efficiently and it
- 21:09Speaker 1: supports overall liver health. Most people think that when you drink,
- 21:13Speaker 1: you get dehydrated and that's why you don't feel great
- 21:16Speaker 1: the next day. The real issue is actually what happens
- 21:19Speaker 1: in your brain and liver while you're sleeping. So when
- 21:22Speaker 1: the alcohol leaves your system, your brain goes into this
- 21:24Speaker 1: rebound mode and that's what makes you feel bad. The
- 21:27Speaker 1: DHM and Cheers works while you sleep to smooth out
- 21:31Speaker 1: that rebound, and at the same time, the alcohol converts
- 21:34Speaker 1: into a toxic byproduct that your liver has to clear
- 21:37Speaker 1: out the CEIs steine and Cheers helps speed that up.
- 21:40Speaker 1: It's backed by doctors, PhDs and over one thousand verified clinicians.
- 21:46Speaker 1: They've sold over fifty million doses, and Cheers is also
- 21:48Speaker 1: available in thirty thousand retail locations that includes Target, cvs
- 21:53Speaker 1: and Walgreens. So take Cheers, restore after your last drink
- 21:56Speaker 1: or before going to bed, and wake up feeling at
- 21:59Speaker 1: least fifty better or your money back. For a limited time,

- 23:18Speaker 1: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 23:21Speaker 1: one and up. I thought I was going to be
- 23:24Speaker 1: scarred for life. I really did with this position. I
- 23:27Speaker 1: thought it was pretty bleak. And then maybe in twenty eleven,
- 23:31Speaker 1: when Casey Matthews was a starter next to like Moses Focuo,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I thought that was it. I thought you couldn't hurt
- 23:37Speaker 1: me anymore, And then you know, there was the I
- 23:40Speaker 1: forgot neglected to mention the immortal like Brian Roll and
- 23:45Speaker 1: Greg Lloyd Junior, and the trade for Will Witherspoon, who
- 23:48Speaker 1: actually played pretty well, but then of course he played
- 23:50Speaker 1: too well. He left in free agency after they traded
- 23:52Speaker 1: for him, and he went somewhere else. Who was the
- 23:56Speaker 1: Titans linebacker that.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Out Steven Tullock, Stephen Talk, that's right, that's right, Oh
- 24:03Speaker 4: my god. See it was funny.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Tulluck was a Tulluck was really good player years with
- 24:09Speaker 3: the Lions and the Titans, and it just.
- 24:12Speaker 4: And played for Schwartz.
- 24:13Speaker 3: So what happened was by the time the fans wanted him,
- 24:16Speaker 3: he was near the end, but Tullock was I remember
- 24:20Speaker 3: the media asked him, Hey, are you aware of how
- 24:22Speaker 3: badly the fans wanted you? He was like a because
- 24:25Speaker 3: if you really follow the game, like he became sort
- 24:27Speaker 3: of like this legend without playing here, like you knew
- 24:30Speaker 3: he was one of the best inside backers in football. Yeah,
- 24:33Speaker 3: we're linebackers overall. But by the time he got here, so.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Yeah, I it's why when how he turned his career around.
- 24:40Speaker 3: He did obviously in seventeen and eighteen, and then it
- 24:43Speaker 3: regressed and then twenty one he's like he's like in
- 24:47Speaker 3: a rare fight air like he's one of three best
- 24:51Speaker 3: gams in football, less need how he They've all won
- 24:55Speaker 3: a Super Bowl, and John Schneider and Sin finally got
- 24:57Speaker 3: full personal control after Pete Carrol left. They're the best
- 25:00Speaker 3: or elite. Yeah, and look doesn't mean they don't make mistakes.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Off made mistakes.
- 25:04Speaker 4: You're not gonna get it perfect, and you have to
- 25:05Speaker 4: learn from him.
- 25:07Speaker 3: And I never thought we'd see the day that they've
- 25:11Speaker 3: invested in running back linebacker. I just it's Cuddy. It's
- 25:15Speaker 3: hard to believe. If you would have asked me three
- 25:16Speaker 3: or four years ago, I said, you're high. There's no
- 25:18Speaker 3: way in how this is happening.
- 25:19Speaker 4: They've never got it.
- 25:21Speaker 2: It's amazing, it's unbelievable. I am.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I can finally say I've been cured, not scarred for life.
- 25:27Speaker 2: We can get back to watching really not just competent.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I mean, if you were to rank the tandems, the
- 25:32Speaker 1: starting tandems, you got to put Bawn Campbell, assuming that
- 25:36Speaker 1: you know Campbell's is at very least is as good
- 25:39Speaker 1: as he was last year and doesn't take a step back.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Hurt pretty good tandem.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I'm trying to think about other tandems around the league.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Some people have so light. You know, the Niners of
- 25:47Speaker 1: Fred Warner and they've kind of had a rotating cast
- 25:50Speaker 1: next to him. The kid from the Lions is pretty good, right,
- 25:53Speaker 1: what's his name?
- 25:54Speaker 4: Jack Campbell is a good player.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it was good player. And the other linebacker is
- 25:57Speaker 2: pretty good too. His name is escaping me right now.
- 25:59Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 26:00Speaker 1: The Eagles gotta say that they're they're one of the
- 26:02Speaker 1: top five teams at the inside linebacker or off ball linebacker.
- 26:05Speaker 4: No, they actually don't know that.
- 26:07Speaker 3: The Lions don't have that guy next to well, well,
- 26:10Speaker 3: Derek Bournes is good, but he he remember him and
- 26:13Speaker 3: ANGELOONI would switch.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's why they don't have him anymore, right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 2: he moved on.
- 26:20Speaker 3: But yeah, so, But the bottom line is, again because
- 26:24Speaker 3: we haven't seen enough of Campbell, We just don't know
- 26:25Speaker 3: enough about him yet because he's been hurt and you.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Got to see again he's new the position.
- 26:30Speaker 3: But the potential with size and then and the other
- 26:34Speaker 3: thing is they're they're getting younger, you know, they're that's
- 26:36Speaker 3: another thing they're defense over how to get younger, and
- 26:38Speaker 3: they're doing that so yeah, to move this along. To
- 26:40Speaker 3: finish it off, this is actually a quad. This is
- 26:44Speaker 3: actually a position of strength. Hard to believe, but true, absolutely,
- 26:48Speaker 3: And that is where we'll end our look at the
- 26:50Speaker 3: Eagles depth chart at off ball linebacker i LB. If
- 26:54Speaker 3: you're a Vic Fangio acolyte.
- 26:56Speaker 1: And that's gonna do it for this episode of Inside
- 26:58Speaker 1: the Birds, the leading pot cast in Eagles Intel, and
