Latest / Aspergers & Autism Podcast [The Aspie World] AuDHD / Using AUTISM As A Superpower (HOW YOU CAN DO IT)
Transcript
- 0:03In today's episode of the podcast.
- 0:05This is a sound recording taken from a talk that I did for the
- 0:09autism conference in North Wales or mid Wales in aberystwyth in
- 0:13the aberystwyth university in 2018.
- 0:15I hope you enjoy it. It's all about superpowers and
- 0:18using autism superpowers. It's a great piece that I wanted
- 0:22to put out. So, please enjoy if you wanna
- 0:23hit me up on Twitter to discuss anything.
- 0:25I'll just have General comments on this episode, please at me at
- 0:28the SP world. Yeah, you know what guys?
- 0:31All right, enjoy. Okay.
- 0:33So yeah, it successfully busy in here.
- 0:35We're all trying to make this as fun as possible.
- 0:37So I'm done. I run a YouTube channel called
- 0:40the ask me world. There's no air in there.
- 0:42A lot of people get confused easily Aspire but I've just
- 0:44asked me well, basically I advocate for autism and neuro
- 0:49diversity. So I've got a diagnosis of
- 0:51Asperger syndrome and a bunch of other stuff.
- 0:53That won't burn tool just say I feel he's in trouble but so yes,
- 0:56I think YouTube channel and my YouTube channel actually it has
- 1:02Just in thirty-four Thousand subscribers with won two Awards
- 1:06it won YouTube nextup award which is an award for like
- 1:10up-and-coming channels in the UK the same thing as one was a the
- 1:14best like out of all the blogs talking about autism and the
- 1:16world it went like number of nine out of all of them.
- 1:19So anyways, let's kind of course.
- 1:20That's why I do. This is like my brand on a
- 1:22reason. I'm pacing through something
- 1:23about 15 minutes or going to make sure that I'm doing this in
- 1:25time was somebody to kill me or something.
- 1:27I don't know anyone who can sew YouTube.
- 1:30Why do I use application on the VG y de Africa?
- 1:33Also on YouTube YouTube has a buffer over 1 billion 300
- 1:36million active users, which is an excessive amount of people
- 1:39accessing a lot of data think you'll see something like 50,000
- 1:42hours of watch time of day which is a lot but the idea of
- 1:46YouTubers that it's a open and free community where you can
- 1:49actually just say your mind and so I started on YouTube fucking
- 1:532013, but I didn't actually do anything on the until 7:15.
- 1:56So I want to start building community on YouTube it led me
- 2:00to do I do solution. I use YouTube.
- 2:02Specifically as because I'm able to build a community of people
- 2:06who are like-minded and who can see for real life examples.
- 2:10So I talk about things. I knew how things affect me and
- 2:12how I know my girlfriend on a daily basis, but you know, and
- 2:15so people can relate to that and they have fun with it and then
- 2:17they can ask me questions and the idea is to build a solid
- 2:19community of people Authority and the authority is what I
- 2:23guess you lately which is your overall goal of the channel.
- 2:26And so yeah, so that's one reason another reason is that
- 2:29it's creativity. I feel like the answer to
- 2:31everybody's focused. Creativity know what you're
- 2:34doing and will feel on so YouTube allows for creativity
- 2:38across the board. So when when I started YouTube
- 2:40and rubbish our camera will be rubbish.
- 2:42I couldn't film anything but and I studied and I learn because I
- 2:45hyper focus on something I obsessed about I got obsessed
- 2:48YouTube to stay up all night looking at YouTube algorithm
- 2:50changes, very exciting stuff for me my often to please but you
- 2:55know, I really get into it and I love that because you can learn
- 2:58how to manipulate something but it's hyper-focus with creativity
- 3:00and that's like number one for me.
- 3:02I'm big, okay. Nativity my brand, you know, I
- 3:04advocate for all of them and stuff and I say of creativity is
- 3:07everything and so that's what we do.
- 3:08And then the other thing is that it builds confidence.
- 3:10Now, this is quite interesting. A lot of people ask me this and
- 3:12I've done a talk before in different parts of shows and
- 3:14people ask why doing, you know, and if their kids games with a
- 3:17good and I say it's a good thing because it builds confidence
- 3:19before doing this I would be able to get up and speak to
- 3:21everybody because I don't have nothing to talk about but by
- 3:24having something I really nerd over like YouTube and talking
- 3:27about my experiences I get to build confidence and confidence
- 3:30is everything and without confidence you have nothing is
- 3:32over. This will just fall apart and
- 3:34everybody strives for confidence because I think it's the key to
- 3:36success in a society based on your typical kind of value.
- 3:40So we need confidence to get to these barriers.
- 3:42It doesn't always work, but it's definitely the basis of what I
- 3:45do on YouTube and it's I'm just pacing through this or please
- 3:49moving. So it's freezing I usually do
- 3:52because it inspires me as finally to do more on.
- 3:55The reason inspires me is because I see there's a there's
- 3:58a message to give to anybody who has access to a computer and
- 4:01access the what I'm doing. So the idea is to inspire people
- 4:05to come on board apartment community on growing online with
- 4:08everything I do with with YouTube and the community will
- 4:11build an authority or something earlier and the authority is
- 4:14that I'm currently 34 thousand subscribers and my goal is to
- 4:18get to a hundred dollars as great as I want to get to
- 4:20100,000 subscribers and gives me a basis of authority to start
- 4:23changing the way social and public services.
- 4:27You have to treat people with Autism on neuro diversity.
- 4:30And the reason I say this is because we went back to like the
- 4:3250's. Or even you know, there's no The
- 4:34Fall season 20s, you don't wheelchair access was nothing,
- 4:37you know now just stumbled because people inside okay
- 4:39disabilities. It's physically see the
- 4:41wheelchair now have to get in if you didn't have me up drunk just
- 4:43to shop. You've got a going to face
- 4:45everyone will sue you and stuff. And so that's a standard and
- 4:47this is kind of people respect. I'm going to respect that but
- 4:50like you're shopping is tough task alights a horrible.
- 4:52These are perfectly to Great like there's no accommodation
- 4:56for people with University or Autism in general.
- 4:58So the idea is I want to be a voice of reason or authority or
- 5:01a channel to say look. I've got a hunch Thousand people
- 5:03were interested in signing anything I put out.
- 5:05So that's a lot of people, you know pushing some in for them
- 5:08idea. So it's to give the idea where
- 5:10you can see momentum and that's what I'm doing.
- 5:12The yd has inspired me to do more every day because so many
- 5:14people come on and I get like, it's crazy the amount of
- 5:18communications I get from people and I say this to everybody I
- 5:20get thousands of messages a month.
- 5:22I'm going to get about 10,000 in a in an average month.
- 5:26I get 10,000 Communications, and that's that's parents people
- 5:29with Autism carers nurses everything you can think of just
- 5:32ask me. Questions like I'm some kind of
- 5:34like, dr. Special another.
- 5:36No, I'm just putting this stuff over how I know you people and
- 5:38like it's crazy. So the idea is that there's
- 5:41people that he want to learn. So what I did was I set up a
- 5:43Facebook group, which is getting also a thousand Army.
- 5:46I've set up a couple of months ago.
- 5:47And the idea of the Facebook group is to to get people in
- 5:50there and talking to each other. So it may be like something else
- 5:52to experience in shopping with kids as a result like that, you
- 5:54know young diagnosis and they don't like beans like theme
- 5:57parks. And so they know they can share
- 5:58that idea. So it is get building community
- 6:01and the community will build support muscle.
- 6:02Holding back something in the facts an idea and the idea is
- 6:05that we can change the way big conglomerates are big things
- 6:08Public Services even hospitals are always in the car crusher to
- 6:10this hospital as long as there's horrible.
- 6:12There's a most unkind of like, I don't know like satisfying thing
- 6:17ever like not muscles been good, but it was not a comedy and we
- 6:19need a wheelchair you can Inspire them to be awesome.
- 6:21But like so if you're awesome, it's like Donna I need Satan's
- 6:24real I am not trying to also wild sheep.
- 6:26He's training also the neurodiversity bunkers.
- 6:29So that's kind of what we're trying to do.
- 6:31So, yeah, and so the I have a sales is my superpower.
- 6:34I'm going to go see Pace to this and the reason I say so
- 6:37superpowers because why did differently my channels bunch of
- 6:40people talking to autism on the internet lows will be time
- 6:42enough berries on the Internet or whatever or whatever you say
- 6:44that people have had better days horrible.
- 6:48So it's like I've got you watch it you feel worse and I've
- 6:50watched it I do this like because I got diagnosed at the
- 6:5219 of ours Big Cinema ADHD. I was like, I don't know I'm
- 6:55talking about so I want in their time in Africa simple.
- 6:58Let's go to impress me. Let's get that much and I just
- 7:00felt horrible, all's I want to do that and thought well, where
- 7:02am I? New videos looks like a
- 7:04variously as well. So please bear with me but like
- 7:07I'm nervous but videos that make you really happy to watch the
- 7:11videos. I'm going to arm isn't this guy
- 7:12talking absolute nonsense, but no reason for 20 minutes.
- 7:15I love it. I was like, yeah, that's a cool
- 7:16idea. So I decided to use my super
- 7:19power rather than drag me down and and and inspires me, so I
- 7:22decided that because we have hyper focus on wrong things.
- 7:26So it's a downfall in other ways where like my daughter goes on
- 7:29between us like just long enough to something else.
- 7:33Go get him just thinking about this anyway, so that was like I
- 7:36could focus on the wrong way. So I know this until you listen
- 7:38to anything. I just said and I was like, I'm
- 7:40sorry. I was focusing on this wrist
- 7:41thing. I heard about six years ago and
- 7:42I was thinking about it and probably you know, how did you
- 7:45just computed the together and I was thinking about abstract
- 7:47anyway, so I decided that why don't I put it to the test when
- 7:49I push myself to the limit, so I did and then I'll just give you
- 7:52an example of how I use this for my superpower.
- 7:55So I decided the first thing I did I was like hyper focused on
- 7:59things that were very intricate like chemistry.
- 8:01I've never done anything and I don't Increase it at all.
- 8:04If anything before I don't know School complications of overall
- 8:07and then I decided I would try to do the degree.
- 8:09So I went when I was at 27 or something wanted access causal
- 8:13when they're never going to master.
- 8:15My life Easter is not so then they offered me a place
- 8:20universities do chemistry but there's a chemical reason I have
- 8:22a degree in chemistry and everyone will love this my
- 8:25dissertation of a the teaching tool for complex chemistry
- 8:27Concepts in Minecraft. So I made a Minecraft world that
- 8:30I had it's called Truth. Period it's a it's a point group
- 8:35theory of Michael symmetry, which is really awesome stuff.
- 8:37I know you're excited about it, but I made my perfume this one
- 8:40can teach kids this that's awesome is amazing actually
- 8:42Microsoft religion to the buying it all the cool stuff.
- 8:45Anyway moving on from that was my home.
- 8:46I did that and then so I wrote a book whilst you might be also
- 8:50brought by the right. Look I haven't go straight.
- 8:52Help me write a book because like I'm dyslexic as well.
- 8:54So I really have a right and I kind of got my own right Horizon
- 8:57down man. I don't even I just said so I
- 9:00had to get somebody to help me not be right around girls.
- 9:03It helped me write in sorrow, and I was told when the books
- 9:05I've got publishing deal. It's all over would you going
- 9:07around for my book? It's crazy.
- 9:08I mean, I've got number one and I was the three times anyway, so
- 9:11that was kind of cool and then another thing was not only
- 9:17building my YouTube channel and I'll take the last thing I'll
- 9:20blend on my YouTube Channel girls, so I don't take tension
- 9:22time. But the last thing I'll say
- 9:23about I'm using my super powers like I'm a multi-position
- 9:27self-taught musician, so it doesn't make you play guitar
- 9:29with a when I was like 13 of them know so I thought maybe I
- 9:31could so I pick up the tablet. It's bad enough that would be up
- 9:34to the base without the drums do piano and violin cello is are
- 9:36getting a lot of different things.
- 9:37But so I decided that I was in a bunk reason we doing anything so
- 9:40excited to use Focus my attention on goals which focuses
- 9:44attention on goals your whole world how you interact and
- 9:47everything shift and it's just as far as the gold once using
- 9:50vision board. So I made a vision board is the
- 9:52right one. I'm a wreck about Japan.
- 9:53I don't know who's cool, isn't it?
- 9:55So I was like done. Tomatoes like wow, this is my
- 10:05mom city was then it's like when can I see you drink days of this
- 10:07is the weirdest thing of all but it's cool.
- 10:09But it means that the downfall is yeah and a new typical
- 10:12environment, but it's people off but and in my environment I can
- 10:16do amazing things, but it's not just because I made because you
- 10:18know, I'm individual everybody who hasn't University can
- 10:21actually help push themselves forward using the super power.
- 10:24And the last thing I'll go finish on is that my channel was
- 10:28my crazy times like 10,000. I was with of crap of crap
- 10:31making YouTube videos and I want it.
- 10:33To make it amazing because I thought you know, I never really
- 10:36go half-assed internet will go right in and do it properly.
- 10:39So I was like, how am I going to do?
- 10:40So I decided that I wanted to get a hundred thousand
- 10:43subscribers and because again the Authority's how am I going
- 10:46to do anything about it? And I learned about the YouTube
- 10:48algorithm and then when I made a vision board of survival and a
- 10:51thousand subscribers, when it did this vision for I was on
- 10:54some are 13,000 subscribers and that was in November just gone
- 10:58now the town's just hit 34 thousand subscribers like two
- 11:01days ago, which is crazy so that success Growth of a small period
- 11:04of time because of the focus that I gave to a specific topic
- 11:08because I line my mind with that Focus which is crazy, but it's
- 11:11called work. So what I do is I go around
- 11:13output for it. One of the main things I tell
- 11:15people is to like don't use it as a as a bad thing to say.
- 11:18What am I good enough. I'm going to talk about maybe a
- 11:21rappers and behave on like Iraq is over then having heavy old or
- 11:25whatever, but apart from that nothing much me.
- 11:28So yeah himself describes here I go.
- 11:30Thank you. Listen to my stupid talk and if
- 11:32you want to talk to me. Hey guys.
