- 2:07because we are here to discuss a little movie that is dropping very soon.
- 2:13I'm not sure exactly when May tenth this weekend, or maybe it's already happened
- 2:19by the time you hear this. Kingdom of the Planet of the Eighth,
- 2:23the fourth and the recent reboot revival of the Planet of the Apes franchise,
- 2:31which is now going on, you know, over a decade old, because
- 2:35it's you know, the fourth of these films, the rest of approaching twenty
- 2:39approaching twenty Wow, Jesus, I remember, because I didn't keep the all
- 2:44when it started. I remember, I went to my homie shout with my
- 2:46brother Anthony. I went to his period. We smoked out, sat there
- 2:49and watching on the couch, and I will never forget when that nigga sees
- 2:53it first, was like I jumped up off this nigga's couch and was like,
- 2:58Nigga, rewind that that niggas because I wasn't sure. You know,
- 3:01I'm a big fan of the original series, but I didn't know, you
- 3:05know, if Sezy was going to talk in them new movies. You know,
- 3:07I didn't know what was going to happen. And so when that nigga
- 3:09said no in started talking Nigga, I lost it, Like, oh,
- 3:12he's incredible, but yeah, we're on the fourth one. This is directed
- 3:15by a new director now or what's this test name again? This is west
- 3:21Ball west Ball shout out to west Ball balling up in here and west Ball
- 3:28is the director of the new one, which takes place. It's still in
- 3:32the same timeline as the last three. Somehow, some way takes place.
- 3:38I guess as it subscribed generations later. I've heard hundreds of years. I
- 3:44don't know exactly what. Yeah, I'm gonna assume hundreds because it had generations.
- 3:49Yeah, it has to be, especially due to a lot of ineptitude
- 3:53on the part of these apes in this one. So I would have to
- 3:55say it has to be undred years later for these niggas to be when they
- 4:00forgot everything, what the word meant, what Jesus word the strap? Just
- 4:05get fresh. They forgot the first law which was never mentioned, get the
- 4:10strap, which was keep your pistol on you at all times, all times.
- 4:16Did you not see the cover of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,
- 4:18the cover of War of the Planet of the Apes. He has the
- 4:24stick always always in this film. Unfortunately, there's a distinct lap of Ape
- 4:30with sticks. Well, look, we gotta start positive, right, Like
- 4:35we both put like a little teaser on Twitter just about what we of the
- 4:41overall great things that we thought about Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
- 4:45Yes, what was that been? I mean cgi, I will say that
- 4:49off top. Yes, Like I was sitting in the theater. I got
- 4:53the people advanced screening. Obviously we both keep the vand screenings. I was
- 4:56in the theater and right away when I think one of the first shots when
- 5:00it focused on Noah's face, one of the main Ape characters, I'm sitting
- 5:04there like holy shit, yeah, like his expression that their everything. It
- 5:13was like what Lion King the new ones with the you know, photo realistic,
- 5:16I mean photo realistic. I'm using quote fingers for those who are just
- 5:19listening. I'm gonna say that's a bad example because you didn't let me finish
- 5:26it, because that's my point. I was about to say what the lion
- 5:28king should be. And it's like, it's like these niggas is eights,
- 5:31you know, but they are all yeah, they're emoting, and it's I
- 5:36get it. It's much more difficult with a lion, you know, versus
- 5:40an eight. The lion's talking. Yeah, so you can, you can,
- 5:46you can suspend the disbelief of But it's also an ape's face is closer
- 5:51to humans, so when they smiles, like a lion's smiling is terrifying,
- 5:57you know, apes smiling is closer to humans, so it's not it's terrifying,
- 6:00you know what I mean. No, there's no case where a lion's
- 6:02mouth and it's not horrific. They could make it work. They could make
- 6:06it work. They made the lion wish and a wardrobe. I feel like
- 6:12that c g I lion. He never smiled. He was chuckling. Jesus
- 6:16and I will find you and I will kill you. Was chuckling because he
- 6:19was the voice of that lion. I believe he was the voice wasn't he
- 6:23I will when I find you? And Liam Neeson was a fucking lion and
- 6:27lion war Jobe was he not? One of my favorite battle rap lines,
- 6:31Okay, one of my favorite battle of recent memory is uh a rapper said,
- 6:38I wish the Nigga would like Liam Neeson. Uh. Yes, back
- 6:45to the hu are right? And I know it is impecable the way that
- 6:53these monkeys, chimps, gorillas or ringutans, the whole eight family, how
- 6:59they have them in and it's it is a holy shit moment, especially because
- 7:03in the beginning of Mindscreen, they actually gave it like a maybe a two
- 7:06three minute short where it talks about the technology behind the molcap and it literally
- 7:12did it where you would they would show you the final image and then they
- 7:15would do a horizontal white to see the characters the actors with the dots on
- 7:20their face and talk on them and the points, the facial points in the
- 7:26construction and how they matched that to the visual effect of the actual ape or
- 7:30whatever like they went in. And then not only that, from from the
- 7:35each characterization point, from the environmental design and the expansiveness of the sets.
- 7:43Right, I don't even know what I should call it sets this but Expanson
- 7:46for the environments that the apes were in in every scene was beautiful. It
- 7:50actually was sitting there really wondering how much of it was sets and how much
- 7:56of it was CGI. Who had to be CGI? There ain't nothing.
- 8:00I mean, I'm sure there were they made. I just I could be
- 8:03I'm sure I'm wrong, But I felt like this is one of the things
- 8:07where it may be majority C CGI, but you don't feel that it's CGI.
- 8:11It just feels tangible and that's it. And also CGI has come such
- 8:16a long ways from ten years ago, fifteen years ago, the beginning of
- 8:18all of this. So it just and I will say planting the apes generally,
- 8:24even even the previous films from Franco's time and onwards, it looked good,
- 8:28like the the apes actually did look good. And even all the movements
- 8:31and even when they were coming, like when they were congregating on Moss,
- 8:35it looked good. And again they this is just another level of superior visual
- 8:41effects. And I really love being able to watch how you see the world
- 8:46being reclaimed, nature reclaiming what was the modern times. Like you, it's
- 8:52very clear that you see where they are like once like there's a few scenes
- 8:56where they're in like they're in there's one where they're in a they're in an
- 8:58air and they're in you know, they're in different spaces. You know,
- 9:01they're they're in a they're in a giant container ship, like they're they're in
- 9:05all these different places. But then once they back up, like literally like
- 9:09it's like they take a drone and backup so you can see the whole scene,
- 9:13You're like, oh, that's where they are. Oh that's what that
- 9:16used to be hundreds of years ago or whatever like that. So I thought,
- 9:20from Flora and fauna to the actual animals themselves, they did a fantastic
- 9:24job. And then the acting because because again this is mocap, so it's
- 9:28it's directly mapping the c d CGI imagery onto actual human faces that have movement
- 9:35and give and you know, everything that you could think of in between.
- 9:39And to see that translated really really well, I appreciated that. Yeah,
- 9:43I want to give a big special shout out to sorry to Kevin Durand,
- 9:52who plays Proximus Caesar. I thought Kevin Durand, who if you know his
- 9:56face, Kevin Durand is always a villain, probably been in some of y'all
- 9:58nightmares point or another, because this man has got a terrifying face and he's
- 10:03a terrifying actor. Sorry, broh, you know, like there's a reason
- 10:07why you get cast in these role My man's face is quite terrified. What
- 10:11was he in recently that was terrifying? I can't remember. Apparently I didn't
- 10:16see I ain't seen Abigail yet final Swamp Thing TV series in twenty nineteen.
- 10:24He was Jason. No, no, it was something else. For his
- 10:30linga was super terrifying. But I can't oh Lost. He was definitely un
- 10:35lost. There it is, Yes, I knew it. Yeah, he
- 10:37was terrifying on Lost. So yeah, my man, Kevin Durant was great.
- 10:43I'm definitely a bit shout out to him. Peter Macon playing Roka the
- 10:48Magical Negro Ape. You know, fantastic as the magical Negro Sorry. Eco
- 10:54Darville also played another one of the evil Apes. Pretty fantastic as the evil
- 11:00Gorilla. I gotta say right here, you know, I did fully enjoy
- 11:05the acting. The acting. The acting was a point shout out to Freya
- 11:07Allen. I was like, why she looks so familiar? That's theory from
- 11:11the Witcher. I was just like, Aha, she's a really good actor
- 11:15as well, and the actress as well, just in terms of how she
- 11:16could emote express with just her eyes without saying much all that stuff. So
- 11:22yeah, definitely yeah, And she plays May, who is the main human
- 11:26in this film. We'll talk about her role and the complicated role plays in
- 11:31this film in a second, but now we get to some of my issues,
- 11:37because I definitely love the acting as well, but right here we have
- 11:41wanted issues. And this is something that the original Apes film played with very
- 11:46well, and that's the concept of race. And once again I'm using quotation
- 11:50marks because for long term listeners of The Fall Nerds Show, y'all know,
- 11:54I feel about race that it's an illusion creator by toss of whiteness. And
- 11:58at one point we were all just humans and then you know, talks of
- 12:01whiteness comes along and it's like, no, y'all got to be black,
- 12:03y'all gotta be this so we can separate the people and you know, rule
- 12:07over it because we're the main minority and so we got to make everybody else
- 12:11into own minority. Long story short, but the original Plane Davis film plays
- 12:16with us very well. Because it's like it is basically an allegory or a
- 12:20metaphor about race, you know, and the Apes are representative of black people
- 12:26who are finally taken back over. And it's the white fear that when black
- 12:30people take over the Apes, will you know, subjugate them, and et
- 12:33cetera, et cetera the apes, sorry, you know what I mean,
- 12:35like that black people will subjugate them, you know. And then but in
- 12:39the film, you know, they're portrayed by the apes seregated white people,
- 12:41right, So that's the you know, whole fear. And I've played with
- 12:45et cetera ever since then. It's kind of been mixed bag of things.
- 12:48And this is a very mix bad because we have our three main heroes O
- 12:52and TG, Travis Jeffrey and Lydia Peckman playing Noah and Nya and not here
- 13:00that one and so very Africanish names for me, I know, and Naya
- 13:07I mean I got relatives, you know, and they're all white, you
- 13:13know. And then Peter Macon playing the magical Negro smart Ape it is black.
- 13:18Ika Darvil playing the big Gorilla ass eight is a black man. You
- 13:24know what. The funny part about all these planet of the eight films again
- 13:28of the two thousands of the mid two thousands dollars is that I always like,
- 13:33it's like a running joke, but I feel like it's still there.
- 13:35They're like, why are all the dark skin apes, even the bad guys?
- 13:41And then like Raka the Rangutane like because they had Maurice was the original
- 13:46rangutan in the first one, so they have Raka another Rangutan show. It's
- 13:50like, yo, this movie is It's like, it's like making like this
- 13:54series has created its own cliches and it's already falling into them. It's not,
- 14:00but they speak to I will say there was a couple times where they
- 14:01even spoke to their own cliches and made fun of themselves. I was like,
- 14:05all right, but y'all still doing it. Yeah, and yeah,
- 14:09it's like the big black ass gorilla is the villain or one of the main
- 14:13villains. And then again with this whole thing, at one point, May
- 14:18encounters a herd of white people lularious literally literally, I mean they called them
- 14:24a herd. But once again, in this future, whatever time we were
- 14:30in, the only humans we see in this film up until the varying semi
- 14:33spoiler alert, Yeah, you know you should avoid it. Oh it's white
- 14:39people. You know. It's like that's all we see is white people and
- 14:43white people with dreads and shit. And it's just wild to me because it's
- 14:48like there's you know, negroes playing apes, but you can't have no mixed
- 14:52people in the people. You know, who survived the apes is just white
- 14:56people survive in the future in the wilderness by themselves. When does that ever
- 15:01happened historically? Series? Why black people aren't in space in the future?
- 15:05You know, we just gotta wipe that out. I guess I was actually
- 15:09reading this book by Anieth damn it, I cannot pronounce her last name to
- 15:16look it up. But they're actually talking about how they were watching Blade Run
- 15:20on twenty forty nine and there's like three black people in it. I dislike
- 15:24Blade Run on twenty forty nine famously for a lot of other reasons. You
- 15:30know. I think one of our listeners on YouTube wants comment to them that
- 15:33you didn't like Blade Run. No, I didn't like that shit. They
- 15:35ain't no black people in their future. Why would I like this movie?
- 15:37And again in this film, they're bare needy black people in the future.
- 15:41Why would I like this up until the very end when spoilers you know,
- 15:45some other MOLTI it's like the multicultural you know, world of evil human evil
- 15:50humanity, tull he shows up. It was like Zion from the Matrix.
- 15:54Everybody in that viage. And then that's another we'll get to I mean,
- 15:58we'll get to that right now, because that's my main point is that you
- 16:00know, there's mainly white humans in this film up until the very end,
- 16:03and when it's like you said, Zion from the Matrix and all the evil,
- 16:07I guess man of each shows up. My other things this film is
- 16:12this It felt like a lot of other movies, a lot of Avatar,
- 16:17a lot of Matrix. My man is the main character's name Noah Neo,
- 16:21like Noah Neo Neo, And I thought it was spelled like Noah, like
- 16:26Noah's ark. No, it's spelled in no way. Yeah, but it's
- 16:29supposed to also make you feel about Noah, you know, like the character,
- 16:33you know, and the great Biblical effects people and yeah, white white
- 16:38eight leaders people, I mean white person playing they you know, they was
- 16:44just a chump, brownish you know. But yeah, then you know what's
- 16:48interesting about this franchise and again when I talk about the franchise, I'm talking
- 16:52about mid two thousands on up so starting at twenty eleven, the Rupid Wyatt
- 16:56directed film Rise to the Planes. When I think about the franchise, it's
- 17:02just like that first one with Franco like was lydty, Like I was never
- 17:10intepenity apes a lot of people fucking wasn't. But then this came out.
- 17:12It was like, holy shit, like it was just and even if you
- 17:15were a fan, it was just moments about it where it really shocked you.
- 17:19And again that was because the visual effects were so good and it was
- 17:25just something that you hadn't seen for some people in a long time. For
- 17:27other people like me, never right, you ain't never seen no shit like
- 17:30that. You made a point about the fact that you're sitting there watching it
- 17:33with your homeboy and Caesar starts fucking he yells out no, and that scared
- 17:37the shit out, you know what I'm saying. It's just like it's just
- 17:41not expected. Now fast forward, you get these series of movies where it's
- 17:48right, where things are happening. It's like great and like even the most
- 17:51recent one, but Whatiy Harlson, like I said, wasn't that the one
- 17:52whaty Howson was was was the torture niggas and shit like that, like where
- 17:56it goes dark and it's like it really some serious shit happening. But then
- 18:00at that point it's like you've kind of seen it all right, Yeah,
- 18:03and now this film is almost it's still within the franchise, but almost another
- 18:07reset for twenty twenty four. Yes, it's a reset for the next generation
- 18:11of people who are going to be coming up watching Planet the Eights, but
- 18:14it is repeating. I hate that. I hate that you that that is
- 18:18even a phrase that can be said and it's accepted. I hate that you
- 18:22can say for the next generation of people coming up watching Planet of the Ages
- 18:26because it's like we're in this weird time now where that's accepted, like,
- 18:30oh, we gotta have a next generation of people watching this ship. Nigga,
- 18:33I grew up on shit. I don't want y'all watching the shit I
- 18:37grew up on, you know what I mean? Like, why are you
- 18:38just a gatekeep? Why? No? Because it's like, if you want
- 18:42to watch THEMN shits, I want y'all to make I want niggas to make
- 18:45new shit, just like I don't know what shit makes money. I know,
- 18:48I know, and that's the problem. And it's like, that's why
- 18:52we have Ghostbusters whatever, you know, which I did not bother to see,
- 18:55you know, and that's why we have this joint, which I really
- 18:59you know, I saw all. I was hoping that this joint would be
- 19:02different, you know what I mean, Like I was just hoping, but
- 19:03like you said, it felt really like and not to to restart this.
- 19:10Like if I was going to give a two centers review of Kingdom uner the
- 19:12Planet Apes, I feel like it's a film that is a two not even
- 19:15a film, I say, I feel like it's a two hour commercial for
- 19:19a movie for a sequel that it doesn't deserve. That it doesn't, you
- 19:26know, that would be my two centers review of it, because so much
- 19:29of this film is leading up to what will happen in the next one,
- 19:33I guess. But it's nothing that I gave a shit about. I don't.
- 19:37I barely care about Noah. I cared about Season, you know,
- 19:42I cared about you have more time with him. But even from the first
- 19:45movie, even from the first jump, I cared about him. I don't
- 19:48really care about Noah because to me, he feels like a fakeass season.
- 19:52He's like, he's like Season Junior. You know, it's like and I
- 19:56think it's because they're they're forcing the fact that he's supposed to be Season JR.
- 19:59Yeah, and then that he's nowhere. And then there's problems with the
- 20:02script. Like I talked about this with talkdam So here are some of the
- 20:04things, like Noah has father issues. Oh wow, you know, like
- 20:08every other Hero Journey character, he got daddy issues right, And then I
- 20:14mean, this ain't a spoiler. His daddy is eliminated fifteen seconds into the
- 20:17movie and then it's like it's never really referenced again. Why so you never
- 20:21even know why this nigga has for daddy issues. He just does. And
- 20:25there's other like another ape that he seems to have an issue with early on
- 20:29in the film. He definitely has history with this ape is eliminated. We
- 20:33never learned about that. So it's just things like I don't give a shit
- 20:36about Noah because we're never were given a reason to give a shit about Noah.
- 20:38So that's you know, one issue, but then the other issues,
- 20:42like I said, because it's leading the things that might happen the second film.
- 20:47It's also leading the things that we've already seen. We've already seen it.
- 20:49It was resh yeah, like it's no, what's the one? Yeah?
- 21:00Damn, see that's how not returned, but the one where it was
- 21:02literally a rehash of the all over again. Oh damn, that's said.
- 21:07I I still remember the last Jedi's name, you know, that was the
- 21:10one for me. Damn what was that ship called? Yeah? I remember
- 21:15the damn remember I know, I know you're talking about Ray and them.
- 21:25Damn, I remember the Last Jedi, and I remember Revenge of of the
- 21:30Awakens. The Force awakens, Damn, the Force, and I was thinking
- 21:34the last Jed I, which is why I said return But no, it
- 21:37was the one, wasn't the Force Awakens with the one where it was like
- 21:41a repash of the whole saga all over again. Yeah, And I enjoyed
- 21:45it. This not so much because this wasn't the whole saga. This was,
- 21:49like I said, a commercial for the saga, because we we've already
- 21:52seen this saga. We've already seen. No like no, lie, I
- 21:56mean no spoilers, sorry, bit spoilers. This move is leading to yet
- 22:00another war between humans and apes, with the big I guess newer conflict being
- 22:04at Noah and what's her name? And Surety know each other. It's a
- 22:10new generation of apes. But my thing is season new James. When James,
- 22:15you know how to go out and you told I mean everything's there's there's
- 22:21lots of rehash on me up to it, and I know that symbol will
- 22:23live forever, the window, you know, Caesar's window, that symbol.
- 22:30You know. There's a few things for me when it came to this,
- 22:32I just don't understand the rules of this universe. I unders I understand this
- 22:38has been as they say, generations and generations later, which you can assume
- 22:42it meant hundreds of years later. It could be it could be fucking anything.
- 22:45It's a long period of time generation And that's what I'm saying. When
- 22:49how often new apes to have babies and how many how old is fucking RockA?
- 22:53But I thought there's more humanoids so like like they live for like I'm
- 22:59not gonna say ninety years. But I don't fucking know, Like I mean,
- 23:02Raka seemed to know Caesar personally like he knew Jesus well. He was
- 23:10acting like that, like for example, in real life they said gorillas live
- 23:11up to like forty years, right, what about rutans? The niggas look
- 23:15old as ship, so I need to know the live forty years, ain't
- 23:22No, Wait in Roca some fifty if they're what about chimps, they to
- 23:27be chimps. Chimps live how old chimps live fifty to sixty years? So
- 23:34so Caesar could have been an old ass nigga, and Rocca could have been
- 23:37young and met the nigga. So possibly that could be why he's such as
- 23:42zion you know, scientist end or whatever. I don't know, but as
- 23:47I mentioned, I don't understand what scientists Jesus, I'm not gonna say that.
- 23:55I'm sorry, now, you can't. I mean, you know it's
- 23:59fact. I mean, you know he does want the establishment of the nation
- 24:03back again, doesn't he like he wants No, no, no, no,
- 24:07I'm not gonna call him that. I'm gonna call it. We're gonna
- 24:10gonna know. I mean, the real Zionists in this film is yeah,
- 24:12the real science is yeah. So you leave it in yeah. Yeah.
- 24:19But but no, like he's just a he's just a what's the people who
- 24:23are just very firmly followers and like I'm staying definitely yes, but you ain't
- 24:38never heard this Nigga the off score, Nigga rock listen the rules of this
- 24:48universe. As I said, we know like Drake one, it's been a
- 24:56lot of time. But you have people like apes like Rakka, who I
- 25:03don't know if he's the only one left or this other there was others like
- 25:04him who are and Nigga's definitely the only one left. The other Nigga got
- 25:08killed above ground, still spreading the gospel or what he believes to be the
- 25:12true Testament, the Old Testament of Caesar, right. And then you have
- 25:19people like Noah his people, apes like no his clan, who they know
- 25:26about Caesar to a degree, right, but they seem to be on their
- 25:30own path. Right. But at the end of the day, Caesar's legacy
- 25:33lives on because these apes can talk, right, These apes are elevated,
- 25:38you know, mentality, all the other stuff. Yes, why can't they
- 25:45read? All? Right? Does Caesar ever know how to read? Knew
- 25:52how to read? I don't think so if if I'm Armara, but they
- 25:56ain't, no fucking way. He was in the lab with Franco. He
- 26:00Yeah, you're right that other nigga was writing, No, they knew how
- 26:03to read. That nigga was right, and and I was just. And
- 26:07again you can say, well, maybe it's different for different plans who are
- 26:10at further further parts of the of the land. And plan is illiterate.
- 26:15Eagle plan is on their own right, what you're saying like that, no
- 26:21one's plan is on a on another part of another part of town. I
- 26:23get it town, but it seems to But then they they expressed, even
- 26:36from proximists everybody else, they expressed that none of these niggas knew how to
- 26:40read. And I'm like, wait a minute, y'all had generations of stand
- 26:45rakas running around reading, you know, talking about the books and stuff.
- 26:48I don't even know RockA care read, but he was. He was like
- 26:51these mean ship you know what I'm saying Like, I didn't understand, Like
- 26:56it was just certain And that's why I said it on the Center rules.
- 26:59It just felt like certain pieces of knowledge. I understand shicks lost over time.
- 27:02That's plid, but it's just certain things that got lost in other things
- 27:07that didn't. For example, they're in a clearing and that you said the
- 27:11herd of humans and they looking and they see animals and rocking in them is
- 27:17like, holy shit, what is that black and white looking thing? Right?
- 27:21Don't know that it's a zebra? Don't know what it is, yep,
- 27:23but he knows it, says he knows, and says it has stripes.
- 27:29Now now, now that in the theater was my moment. Now there's
- 27:33no it's a it's a minor it bit, but it's also one of those
- 27:37things. And there was there was something before that. The apes were saying
- 27:40a few things where I was like, Okay, I have to just imagine
- 27:42in my head. I sat imagine that they're not speaking English, that they're
- 27:45speaking eight. They just you know, nobody speaking English because humans understand them.
- 27:49So it's English or whatever language is being spoken at that. Yeah,
- 27:53there we go. That's what I'm saying, that it's whatever language is being
- 27:56spoken, but the humans understand it. So humans in America the humans speaking
- 28:03this language too, because I had to go with this because I know,
- 28:06but they say ship and other things to where it really made it weird.
- 28:08So they're obviously speaking English. Fuck it. The nigga, I don't know,
- 28:12it's one of the there's a famous moment from Lord of the Rings from
- 28:17the Lord of the Rings movies with Peter Jackson from One of the Orc says,
- 28:21it looks like me back on my menu. Boys and people famously are
- 28:26like, how the fuck does he know what the menu is? It's like
- 28:30the same thing, And yes, this is minor nippick. This doesn't suspend
- 28:36belief from me, Like, it's like, okay, whatever, hious to
- 28:38me. I thought it was funny, yeah, you know stripes. But
- 28:42then but then yeah, as we said, this is a descendant of that
- 28:48film, the last two fucking films where they had sticks and pistols every motherfucking
- 28:53were I understand that, hey, this thing falls in disarray, you may
- 28:59lose access. None of them niggas knew nothing about guns, none of them
- 29:03the no okay, Now that is even more believable than the books, because
- 29:08guns, gunpowdered, deteriorates pretty quickly, et cetera, et cetera. So
- 29:11that ship is going to fall apart very quickly if not well maintained. They
- 29:15would have no knowledge. There's no stories of Caesar fucking going down the block
- 29:21with the gat every fucking day. There's no stories about that. I mean,
- 29:23I would think there would be, but they would not have the gap.
- 29:26You know, that's the problem, having the gag. Even if they
- 29:30did have a gap, it would be useless. And this is why I
- 29:33think, Okay, like you said, no, but I was like,
- 29:34yeah, everything's fucking reset all over again. Niggas got everything. Yeah besides,
- 29:41but but it's like how people how a lot of people like read like
- 29:45religious texts, and they just take what they want to know and love everything
- 29:48else, cast everything else aside. Well, I want to believe that Caesar
- 29:52told me to stand up for apes and fuck everything else, right, But
- 29:56it's like, but what about all that other shit? He said, Yeah,
- 30:00what happened to the rest of that? And then you see, they
- 30:02do have certain tech that would stay in the testa time, like cattle prods
- 30:07another case in pointing out now that you need to read to be able to
- 30:08do that, you know, And and and obviously they clearly got help some
- 30:12you know, y'all see they got help. But how was they, like,
- 30:17Noah fixed it? How was he able to do that without having did
- 30:19he have an understanding of electricity and how that work? And no, no,
- 30:22but he had an understanding the wireing. He did Okay, how I
- 30:26mean, you know the look a wire is broken. You see that you
- 30:33stick them holes together and the shark comes. You know, you're like,
- 30:34okay that word, the shot comes when I slipped the Okay, this works.
- 30:37When I put you know, the the plus and the minus, it
- 30:41works. Okay. So it's just a matter of trial and error. Yeah,
- 30:42taling air for that one, That's what I'm saying. Just like when
- 30:45they got the gat, you know, trialing air, pull the trigger and
- 30:48the gap work. You know, like they figure that shit out quick.
- 30:51Like my man did not know what the gap was when you know, when
- 30:55when you know, when the gag got let off, when the strap finally
- 30:56got got in this movie, niggas did not know what it was, but
- 31:00they immediately figured it out. It's like, yo, if I point that
- 31:06shit in somebody and do whatever you did with it, niggas lay down that
- 31:11track. And that's what I said, Internet, pick nothing nothing. Here's
- 31:17where we leave the minair station and go to Major. Proximus essentially has a
- 31:26human, older white male essentially as his captives. He has his nigga essentially
- 31:34reading him bedtime stories all day every day, but never It doesn't feel like
- 31:40he's really teaching him shit. M hm. And granted you could say,
- 31:42well, you know, he's a human. He could just lie to him
- 31:45and say whatever the fuck. Mm hmmm. The white man ain't helping the
- 31:52white The white man ain't reading the book that talks about the guns. They
- 31:56have these books in there they talk helping. It doesn't like you could read
- 32:01all the books you wanted on how to do everything with guns unless you have
- 32:07a smithy factory, et cetera. You're not a man that was teaching him,
- 32:09like reading him shit about warfare. And again they would talk about Roman
- 32:13stuff, but reading him about warfare and things like that. There was not
- 32:15at one point where he even described a gun to him. But see,
- 32:21okay, I'm beyond that. No, Posthumus knew about gas. He just
- 32:24didn't have surprises. No, he was surprised that Shorty had I mean,
- 32:30you know someone had fun Shorty, surprise that she had it, or you
- 32:34surprised that he But he know before he ain't seen it working. He didn't
- 32:38know what it was. No, he knew he was doing in the vault
- 32:43to get the gas. Pops Simus was about it was fifty cent strap pros
- 32:47Simus was trying to get the strap, but he just never had his hands
- 32:52on a working strap. He probably had mad straps and didn't work, so
- 32:55that nigga was surprised when he finally saw one that work. You know what
- 32:59I mean? Maybe do you remember like you ain't never seen the gap,
- 33:02so when you see a nigga laid out and you're still gonna be surprised the
- 33:06niggas standing over there and then the nigga laid down over there like you like
- 33:09yo. But to your point, this nigga never talked about bowing arrows.
- 33:15I mean they had sleing shots them, Little Eagle plan had sleing shots them.
- 33:20Niggas ain't f no bowing arrows, no costs, bows, no blista,
- 33:24battlest I don't know you pronounce it. It's some giant as, the
- 33:28big things that murdering like fifty arrow. Yeah, I mean that's heavy artillery.
- 33:32Who knows an arrow? Bow and arrow? Well the ballista you were
- 33:37talking about, yeah, I mean that's heavy. I'm talking about bowing arrow
- 33:40Yeah, listen, I don't fucking know. Okay, maybe the different clans
- 33:44up in the mountains has that right. The Jabbari clan in them got that
- 33:47I don't fucking know. Okay, well what I'm saying it was just confusing,
- 33:52like what was the They didn't feel like there was the rules and my
- 33:53things. I understand this is and that's why might this has to be a
- 33:57hard not a hard reset, but a soft reset, because it's like they
- 34:00picked into certain aspects that happened in the past and say, Okay, this
- 34:04is still true and everything else niggas don't know shit. Yeah, And I
- 34:07mean it had it had to be because they want to get back to a
- 34:09war again, I guess, and it's like we've already seen that, so
- 34:14you can't have that, you know, just keep going. So they had
- 34:16to do a reset, like you know, hundreds of years later. And
- 34:20like you said, new Generation. Yeah, I will say this film the
- 34:24good and you and I just having long dialogue about it because we have so
- 34:28many questions, you know, and the things about like how we weren't even
- 34:30sure if we really liked any of the characters and or just annoyed. I
- 34:36was annoyed by a lot of the people the characters. Uh, I love
- 34:43to fear well, damn I want to. I don't want to spoil my
- 34:49favorite moment, but my second favorite moment. Both of them did involve May.
- 34:53My second favorite moment involving May was watching her ass getting netted up by
- 35:00an ape on horse when she got caught up in that network With second,
- 35:04I fucking fell out about seat laughing. I mean, this film is deeply
- 35:07about betrayal and and trust and and and being you know, mistrusted, and
- 35:15what happens when you trust people you ain't supposed to drugs and this and that,
- 35:17and you know, it's a lot of that. So there's a lot
- 35:20of good good am I saying good dialogue. I mean, you can have
- 35:22conversations about it, Like I know, people will come out of this saying
- 35:24yo, I couldn't stand man, and the other people was like, well,
- 35:27she had some good points because if you look at it from the size
- 35:30of a human, she's going to do what she needs to do for humanity,
- 35:34right, And if that means no, I'm not gonna say, I'm
- 35:38not gonna spoil it for that, you got it. Take the L.
- 35:42She's gonna make sure you take the L is very white. It doesn't matter
- 35:45what you did for her, You're gonna take the L is very white.
- 35:49Yes, yeah, very white, very much white. And I my problem
- 35:53is I agreed with Pops from this more than any other character. You did
- 36:00him in the idea of Slaven and like that. I mean, you know
- 36:04it should happens. You know, it's it's a rough world. You know,
- 36:07somebody got to run it, you know, God nigga anyway, but
- 36:12his main point of you know that, that's beside the point. You know,
- 36:15Look, he has some good ideas. You know, not all of
- 36:17them were right. He's not Magneto is right available now for on Earth's like
- 36:22what he is is, you know, have some good ideas like humanity.
- 36:27Whenever there's more than three of these white people, you gotta, you know,
- 36:30make sure you gotta watch them. Yeah, and you know, and
- 36:34I will like I will take I will lower the the importance of Like I
- 36:38said, all those rules that didn't make sense to me, or the different
- 36:42approaches didn't make it. I was like, okay, fine, Minor.
- 36:44The things that messed up my enjoyment of the film that actually impacted my enjoyment
- 36:50of the film were the pacing. Oh yeah, and the forces and the
- 36:57forced emotional con So the pace. It's a two and a half hour long
- 37:00movie, and you will got and you guys will see some critics say,
- 37:02oh, the time flew by. It did not for me, it it
- 37:07was. It's logged at many different points, like honestly, I was just
- 37:12waiting to get to the next action scene, and even action it's locked.
- 37:15And the problem is because the visual effects are so beautiful, they want you
- 37:19to sit and contemplate when when Noah's thinking about a fucking banana, they want
- 37:24you to see the pupils of his eyes dilate. They want you to see
- 37:29the thought train go from station A to station B and how he feels and
- 37:32his nostrils flare and the hair stand up. From a visual effects perspective,
- 37:37that's fantastic to watch, But I don't want to see it every single scene,
- 37:42Like they force you to sit there, and really they they force you
- 37:47to to make sure you're connecting with every visual component avatar in that regard,
- 37:55and about the avatar, the big blue Nigga trying to give that Pandora when
- 38:00I'm trying to get on the story, like after the ten time are you
- 38:05doing that? I'm like, okay, guys, I understand. His hair
- 38:07blows in the southeast wind with the hint of jasmine heard, could we get
- 38:14going? Can we continue the story? So there were a lot for me,
- 38:15there were a lot of random slower moments that just slowed down the progress
- 38:21and I'm like, come on, like, let's get to the let's get
- 38:23to the next part, even though I knew what the next part was gonna
- 38:25be. That's sad. And then, as I said, there were forced
- 38:29emotional moments where you were really supposed to connect and you're supposed to be like,
- 38:34man, this is sad. Where there times where I was just like,
- 38:37you know, concerned, yes, but where are the time? So
- 38:38I was just like, was I supposed to feel something? Yeah, you
- 38:44can't keep the time without double nigga. I don't give a shit about you.
- 38:51Yours was bitch it up all through this movie, Like when you were
- 38:54in it. This is movies two and a half hours, You've been in
- 38:57it like ten minutes, nigga, I'm supposed to care now and I fully
- 39:00expect that that nigga had died and dude like, can't do a time of
- 39:04that. I was like, oh, this nigga did and he didn't,
- 39:07So all was time disappointed. My big issues with it that really impeded my
- 39:12enjoyment before we wrapped us up, and I do want to wrap us up.
- 39:15Doesn't deserve much more than us. But this is a very standard for
- 39:21writers and people who study writing. This is a very study standard heroes journey,
- 39:28you know, like popularized the mythological heroes journey. I think it's a
- 39:32Joseph Campbell is the author who talked about it. I can't remember. I'm
- 39:37not sure if I'm fucking it up, but it basically the hero's journey we
- 39:39see in mad movies, mad stories, whatever, where a character. We
- 39:45actually talked about it on our s Men review. The Pride of the X
- 39:50Men pilot is a hero's journey type story where a character, and usually happens
- 39:54to pilots, a character introduced is introduced to a new world. They learned
- 40:00about the mechanics to this new world. They go through some trials and tribulations.
- 40:05They're reduced to their lowest point where they learn a lesson. Then they
- 40:08get their shit together and they achieve their goal. Then their goal usually isn't
- 40:15what they thought it was or what they wanted, so they have to find
- 40:17a new goal, which then sets them back on to this path of being
- 40:22back to trying to zero where they're in this new world, and then they
- 40:25can continue their adventures and learn or you know, keep moving through this new
- 40:30world. So that's what happened in prid Of That's Man, That's basically what
- 40:32goes on in this Noah is in his one world. His world is disrupted
- 40:37by this attack from this other plan of apes. He learns that the world
- 40:40is much greater than he thought, and he must go on and explore it.
- 40:45But my issue is when Noah's reduced to his lowest point. There's no
- 40:49in fact, throughout this film, as long as it is, it doesn't
- 40:52really feel like Noah goes on much of a journey. He doesn't really learn
- 40:54shit. You know, things just happen. Noah, you know, moves
- 41:00on, fights bosses, and then it's over. But no one don't learn
- 41:04ship. You know, there's no like he don't even try, Like no
- 41:07one don't give a fuck, Like Noah's asked to do things like come on,
- 41:12man, you can do it. No it's like nah, Nah,
- 41:13I can't. I'm good. And then later and then later on, no
- 41:19it just does it. It's like fucking the time, you know, the
- 41:22movie's almost over now. It felt like the story was like, Okay,
- 41:24now it's time the movies. He actually earned it. It's like, well,
- 41:29now it's time for him to rise up and and and succeed his father.
- 41:32So let's do this. Then, I mean, nigga, I guess,
- 41:40fucking bird the law. But the law is wrong. And if Eagle
- 41:50said, my nigga, it was like, I guess, nigga, Like
- 41:53when you're watching what we'll understand, but the movie's almost over, then you
- 42:00know, I was gonna let that ship go about the guns. But no,
- 42:04I gotta go back because I just realized something. What's that the niggas
- 42:07had gunpowder? The niggas had explosives, Hey damn sure did, and that
- 42:10ship was working gunpowder at that. So you mean to tell me you got
- 42:20all these materials a white man that can read, and they got books off
- 42:25of a couple. They have books, And I'm sorry and fun that in
- 42:30one hundred years, you ain't gonna forget about guns, nigga like that,
- 42:32Like like you said, the nigga had the strap on two of the movie
- 42:37covers, Like these niggas have seen the DVDs talking exploded. No, no,
- 42:45like that would have been the first law fun all this ape should not
- 42:49kill ape. It's get to strap and kill. That would have been to
- 42:54everything walking niggas like all the humans, like these niggas went through a war
- 42:59with these niggas. These niggas went through one hundred years of slave with these
- 43:01fucking humans. Like they are gonna murder these niggas on site with the strap
- 43:06nigga. It's what Rod said, It's what Rogue said on XP ninety seven.
- 43:09It's more the same, fasts, more the same. We've done this
- 43:14before. Yeah, get the streep in here. Yeah whatever what Okay,
- 43:20Now we said what we said. Like I said, it was some amazing,
- 43:22incredible aspects to it and other infuriating points to it. For us.
- 43:28Anyway, we understand we are also the minority. Because I actually looked on
- 43:31ron Tomatoes and critics are giving us a eighty five percent. I don't understand
- 43:36it. The audience score will be close, score will potentially be close,
- 43:39and that's fine, we disagree. I don't know. If you're it's not
- 43:45a bad film, that's nothing. It's not a bad film. I will
- 43:47say. I'm not gonna say it's And also if of the mid two thousands
- 43:55trilogy is not the best out of all of them, easily. But again,
- 44:01I remember you said you didn't want to hear this, but this is
- 44:04the new version for the new generation, so they're starting off from zero.
- 44:07So whatever point, whatever percentage this gets, this is gonna be the starting
- 44:12point. Well, I mean, that's I'm saying. If you if you
- 44:14don't consider the old films, then this is, you know, a commercial,
- 44:16That's what I'm saying. I still don't know if I can call this
- 44:20a film like that. It's a good commercial, it's a movie. It's
- 44:22a well shot commercial. Okay, But I'm not gonna say this is a
- 44:27bad I'm not gonna say it's bad because it wasn't bad. It was just
- 44:30I it wasn't for me. I don't feel like that has a real story.
- 44:35But maybe I'm wrong, you know, I will say this, there's
- 44:38real hints of a really good movie in there. Yeah, yeah, and
- 44:45yeah, I was gonna say, and just also there are lots of like
- 44:49little callbacks and references to God, the older films and even the Genesis of
- 44:52the Planet of the Apes like franchise. Overall, there's lots of callbacks and
- 44:57things like that. Like in my theater the Old White Man was fucking cracking
- 45:01the fuck up. They were crying when a few lines were said that they
- 45:05thought were fucking hilarious. And as me where I was just like, I
- 45:07don't get it, but okay, and that's okay. Then I don't get
- 45:09it. It wasn't for me, and that's all right. I don't want
- 45:13to I'm saying I don't want it to like I'm not trying to say,
- 45:15like the things that I don't get doesn't mean it was a bad film,
- 45:17that's no. Yeah, that's why I don't want to say that it was.
- 45:21You know, it was just I'm actually a pretty big fan of the
- 45:24original series, and you know, the last three I thought were really great
- 45:30and that they were good. Yeah, And that's something that really kind of
- 45:32bothers me about this one because the last three it actually did a really interesting
- 45:37thing with the writing to me, where it felt like it was actually ending
- 45:42where the original one with Charlton Heston picks up, so it felt like they
- 45:49looped back to that point. I was like, Oh, that's trying of
- 45:51dope. So I thought this one would but you know, continue that story
- 45:55maybe, but this one feels like a commercial once again. For that movie
- 46:00where we'll finally see some niggas come from space and be like, oh my
- 46:04god, the earth fill with apes, you know, Like I feel like
- 46:06that's maybe coming in the next one, maybe the third one. But damn,
- 46:13yeah, what what do you? What do you? What are you
- 46:15rating this film? Us? Yeah? Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful gown Yeah,
- 46:23beautiful gowns. The gowns bring it up, you know, But it
- 46:28ain't an album. I'm bumping again, fair, I'm never listening to this
- 46:30joint again. You know. It's like you listened to it one time,
- 46:32like was you know, but no, I'm not listening to this album again.
- 46:37I could not see myself watching this two and a half hour movie again.
- 46:40Yeah, I get to see plus individuals, the pluses for the visuals.
- 46:44It ain't even getting a T and T watch for I'm cleaning up the
- 46:45house. Damn, not even a laundry watch. No, no, no,
- 46:51I'm telling something else. There's too much other shit to watch. Oh
- 46:52and I rated it, but I never got to ask did you care about
- 46:55the fight scenes? No? That was another issue, not really, you
- 46:59know, that was it was like they were you know, I don't know
- 47:01why because as much I liked the visuals. The fight scenes didn't really do
- 47:07it for me like that. It just didn't have like the gravitas. Yeah,
- 47:13and because you didn't care about the characters. So it's like, so
- 47:15what that your niggas is fighting? I guess that's one thing. But even
- 47:19when even like there's movies I don't give about the characters and they're fighting.
- 47:23Yeah, but the fight was not lit. I don't remember no fights being
- 47:28lit to you. I mean that was damn no. That was time.
- 47:32I was like, damn he fucking them up. But never like from a
- 47:36bystander perspective where it's like, oh, I should be calling nine on one
- 47:38right now, but I'm not, and like keep it pushing. That white
- 47:42girl getting draged once again, that was hilarious. That was just ridiculous,
- 47:45hilarious. She got caught up in that net was And there was another unintentional
- 47:51ship like that when aides were getting served. I was cracking up. Yeah,
- 47:53Like I said, there were there were a lot of like damn,
- 47:57yeah, that's fucked up, but yeah, but nothing where I was like,
- 48:00oh I gotta see that moment again. I gotta see that fight skin.
- 48:04No, none of that, no, no, I mean if one
- 48:07a dies and I honestly was like, that's how you die, like you
- 48:12know, so it was it was like, I mean, the most unmemorable
- 48:15death. So it's like, no, I wouldn't Yeah, no, would
- 48:20you recommend people go watch this film? No, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 48:25We can't keep except say why we can't keep accept the mediocre mediocrity?
- 48:32I feel like that's a big problem. Like, no, man, it's
- 48:35just mediocre, like effects not mediocre though, No, but the movie as
- 48:39a whole is mediocre. Like visual effects do not make a movie. And
- 48:44I'm sorry for the people who put all the time and effect of those visual
- 48:46effects. I feel bad for you all because you know, you could have
- 48:49been working on a better movie. And I know people are gonna go see
- 48:52this, Like you said, it's tried eighty five percent, so I'm gonna
- 48:53put my vote. I'm saying no, But you know, y'all, you
- 48:57know, go see yourselves. I will say, if you you are a
