Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? It's Romeo. We made it to Tuesday,
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Taco Tuesday. We talked about some of the regulars getting
• 0:06
Speaker 1: into a fight and then the CIF and what's going
• 0:08
Speaker 1: on with high school football in Bakersfield. Of course, then
• 0:11
Speaker 1: we got to the repo, man. Have you ever got
• 0:13
Speaker 1: a car repo? What happened? Oh, where is it?
• 0:16
Speaker 2: What did you send me here? Concerned mom here, Rome.
• 0:19
Speaker 1: I have a 30-year-old son still living at home. He
• 0:21
Speaker 1: doesn't contribute financially, help around the house, or show a drive,
• 0:26
Speaker 1: you know, toward building a future. I'm starting to feel
• 0:28
Speaker 1: like I've enabled his behavior. Where did I go wrong?
• 0:31
Speaker 1: Are times really this hard or is something else going on?
• 0:34
Speaker 1: What should I do? That's a good question. What you
• 0:36
Speaker 1: should do. That's the tough part of what you should
• 0:38
Speaker 1: do because you don't want to turn your back on
• 0:39
Speaker 1: your kid. You want to try to help him become
• 0:41
Speaker 1: a man or, you know, become a man and handle
• 0:45
Speaker 1: his own business. But you probably enabled him a little bit.
• 0:48
Speaker 1: But no, it's times aren't that tough. There's money to
• 0:51
Speaker 1: be made. The problem is everybody wants to be a
• 0:53
Speaker 1: YouTube star and get it easy. Good morning, Rob. What's
• 0:55
  Speaker 1: going on?
• 0:56
Speaker 3: Man, you hit the nail on the head before you
• 0:57
Speaker 3: went to the music, man.
• 0:59
  Speaker 4: What's that?
• 1:00
Speaker 3: Everybody's wanting to be a freaking influencer now.
• 1:04
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 1:04
  Speaker 4: I don't care.
• 1:05
Speaker 3: I don't care what it is. They got homeless people
• 1:07
Speaker 3: trying to be influencers. They got people that don't know
• 1:10
Speaker 3: left from right trying.
• 1:11
  Speaker 5: To be influencers.
• 1:11
Speaker 3: Everybody's trying to be a YouTube star. Nobody wants to
• 1:13
  Speaker 3: work hard.
• 1:14
Speaker 1: Or a podcaster. Yeah.
• 1:17
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 1:17
Speaker 3: Everybody wants the easy way out. It's like I tell
• 1:20
Speaker 3: my kids all the time. If it was easy, everybody
• 1:22
Speaker 3: would be doing it. Only the hard... Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: It's just one of those things where these kids don't know.
• 1:30
Speaker 1: There's money to be made. There is money to be
• 1:32
Speaker 1: made out here. They just got.
• 1:35
Speaker 2: To figure it out.
• 1:36
Speaker 3: And then the other thing, too, with the parenting is
• 1:39
Speaker 3: all these parents are trying to be their kids' friends.
• 1:41
Speaker 3: They're not trying to be their parents. Yeah. They're sitting
• 1:43
Speaker 3: there trying to be their friends. And I tell that
• 1:45
  Speaker 3: all the time.
• 1:45
  Speaker 6: I do.
• 1:46
  Speaker 4: If your kids.
• 1:47
Speaker 3: Grow up not getting upset with you at all their
• 1:49
Speaker 3: entire life about something because they couldn't hang out with
• 1:51
Speaker 3: their friends or they couldn't do this or they couldn't
• 1:53
Speaker 3: do that, you're parenting wrong. You know, every kid at
• 1:57
Speaker 3: some point can't stand their parents choice because they want
• 2:00
Speaker 3: to go out and go do this or go do that.
• 2:01
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 2:02
Speaker 3: You know, and I'm not saying to raise them like super,
• 2:05
  Speaker 3: super strict.
• 2:05
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 2:06
Speaker 3: But you have to know that not every answer is yes.
• 2:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right. I heard somebody I heard somebody say
• 2:11
Speaker 1: that the other day. I was listening to some I
• 2:13
Speaker 1: think it was Louis C.K. said that sometimes. You just
• 2:16
Speaker 1: have to tell your parents or tell your kids no
• 2:19
Speaker 1: just for the sake of no. Not that you're mad,
• 2:21
Speaker 1: not that they're in trouble, just no.
• 2:22
Speaker 3: They have to know what no means. Because if not,
• 2:25
Speaker 3: they're going to grow up to be entitled to a
• 2:27
  Speaker 3: little s * * *. And they're going to think
• 2:29
Speaker 3: that everything comes to them, that there's no consequences. People
• 2:32
Speaker 3: need to learn discipline. People need to learn that not
• 2:35
Speaker 3: everything is going to go their way because when they
• 2:36
Speaker 3: hit the real world... to happen you know yeah i'm
• 2:41
Speaker 3: pretty sure where you're at you've asked for things and
• 2:43
Speaker 3: you know your boss has told you no you know
• 2:45
Speaker 3: and if you never grew up hearing no then you're
• 2:47
Speaker 3: not going to know what that means absolutely sit there
• 2:49
Speaker 3: and act out and lash out and you know just
• 2:51
Speaker 3: yeah just be one of them you know so.
• 2:54
Speaker 4: All right man all right it is what.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: It is thanks for calling brother all right she said
• 2:58
Speaker 1: uh what did she say here hey rome i have
• 3:01
Speaker 1: a 30 year old son still living at home he
• 3:03
Speaker 1: doesn't contribute financially help around the house or show any
• 3:05
Speaker 1: drive towards building a future I'm starting to feel like
• 3:08
Speaker 1: I've enabled this behavior. Where do I go wrong at times?
• 3:12
  Speaker 2: Really?
• 3:13
Speaker 1: Are times really that hard? No, they're not. Is something
• 3:15
Speaker 1: else going on? What should I do? Yeah, he's lazy. Probably.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: There's money to be made out there.
• 3:21
Speaker 1: Okay. Oh, she texted me back. He stays in his
• 3:24
Speaker 1: room locked up or we go out at night or
• 3:28
Speaker 1: we go out at night with his girlfriend or friends
• 3:32
Speaker 1: or he goes out. Well, where does he get the
• 3:33
Speaker 1: money to go out? How does he have money to
• 3:37
Speaker 1: go out? What's going on?
• 3:40
Speaker 4: Hey, what's going on, Romeo?
• 3:41
Speaker 1: It's me, Angel. What up, Angel?
• 3:43
Speaker 4: You know how many times I heard no from my mother?
• 3:47
Speaker 1: Probably all the time.
• 3:48
  Speaker 4: All day, Romeo.
• 3:50
Speaker 8: Anything I done, no.
• 3:52
Speaker 3: And the bell was coming.
• 3:54
Speaker 4: And the bell was coming. I'm like, I'm already knowing
• 3:57
  Speaker 4: I'm going.
• 3:57
  Speaker 8: To get hit.
• 3:58
Speaker 1: You're going to say no?
• 3:59
Speaker 4: And I'm just going to stand and cry. That guy
• 4:01
  Speaker 4: is right, bro.
• 4:03
  Speaker 9: Yeah.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: Well, you don't need to hit him with a bell,
• 4:06
Speaker 1: but you need to tell him no.
• 4:08
Speaker 4: Oh, my mom gave it to me, but you know what?
• 4:10
Speaker 4: It made me stronger.
• 4:11
Speaker 1: It made me wiser. Yeah, I get it.
• 4:14
Speaker 4: I'll tell you like this. It was 1988, and she
• 4:18
Speaker 4: took us to In-N-Out right there in Tampano Valley.
• 4:21
  Speaker 6: Combo was maybe like $ 2. 40, $ 2.
• 4:24
  Speaker 9: 40.
• 4:25
Speaker 4: And she saved up for that moment, man.
• 4:27
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 4:29
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 4:30
Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
• 4:31
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 4:31
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 4:31
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 4:32
Speaker 4: That was one of the best moments, man.
• 4:33
Speaker 8: The In-N-Out Burger, man.
• 4:34
  Speaker 7: She paid $ 2.
• 4:34
Speaker 4: 45. She was happy. And it came with the milkshake.
• 4:40
Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It came with the milkshake.
• 4:44
  Speaker 2: All right, Angel.
• 4:45
Speaker 1: Later, brother. Have a good one, man. Yeah, kids need
• 4:50
Speaker 1: to be told no. But here's the thing. And I'm
• 4:54
Speaker 1: going to tell you this because it's not my opinion.
• 4:56
Speaker 2: It was Louis C.K. I think I heard say this.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: He said, Sometimes when you're a kid, you just need
• 5:01
Speaker 1: to be told no just to learn what that means.
• 5:06
Speaker 1: Not because you're in trouble. Not because anybody's mad at you.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: Just no. We can't afford this. No, you can't have that.
• 5:13
  Speaker 4: That's all.
• 5:14
  Speaker 1: R.D. 425477.
• 5:16
Speaker 2: Back to this 30-year-old Rome.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: What matters is, is the father involved in their lives
• 5:21
Speaker 1: and was the father talked about in a bad manner?
• 5:25
Speaker 1: or alienated from the other parent. Got to be real
• 5:29
Speaker 1: with yourself to answer that question. Oh, this is to
• 5:31
Speaker 1: the mom. Is the dad involved? What happened? But I
• 5:38
Speaker 1: will ask you this to be fair, because I, are
• 5:44
Speaker 1: you telling me a single mom cannot teach a boy
• 5:48
  Speaker 1: work ethic?
• 5:49
Speaker 2: Is that what you're trying to say, that dad needed
• 5:51
  Speaker 2: to do that?
• 5:52
Speaker 1: Hey, Rome, this is a concerned mom here. She said,
• 5:55
Speaker 1: what did she say here? Hey, Rome, I have a
• 5:57
Speaker 1: 30-year-old son still living at home. He doesn't contribute financially,
• 6:01
Speaker 1: help around the house, or show any drive towards building
• 6:03
Speaker 1: a future. I'm starting to feel like I've enabled this behavior.
• 6:06
Speaker 1: Where do I go wrong at times? Are times really
• 6:10
Speaker 1: that hard? No, they're not. Is something else going on?
• 6:13
Speaker 1: What should I do?
• 6:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's lazy, probably. I mean, there's money to be made.
• 6:17
Speaker 1: Out there, okay? Oh, she texted me back. He stays
• 6:21
Speaker 1: in his room locked up or we go out at
• 6:24
Speaker 1: night or we go out at night with his girlfriend
• 6:28
Speaker 1: or friends or he goes out. Well, where does he
• 6:29
Speaker 1: get the money to go out? How does he have
• 6:33
Speaker 1: money to go out? Good morning, how's it going on?
• 6:36
Speaker 1: Good morning, Romeo. Hey, what's up?
• 6:39
Speaker 10: Nothing much. So for somebody to say that there needs
• 6:46
Speaker 10: to be a male figure to teach work ethic, that's
• 6:52
  Speaker 10: crazy in itself.
• 6:55
Speaker 1: That's what it sounds like that person is trying to say,
• 6:57
  Speaker 1: but yeah, okay.
• 6:59
Speaker 10: But, you know, like, I don't even know where to
• 7:05
  Speaker 10: start with this.
• 7:06
  Speaker 1: I'm Hispanic, I'm Mexican, and I've always.
• 7:10
Speaker 10: Lived with my parents. So anything goes wrong, I go
• 7:17
Speaker 10: back to my parents, I go back to my parents,
• 7:19
Speaker 10: but I contribute to the household.
• 7:22
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 7:23
  Speaker 5: So.
• 7:24
Speaker 1: Hey, just out of curiosity, how many times have you
• 7:27
Speaker 1: had to go back to your parents?
• 7:29
  Speaker 10: Three.
• 7:31
  Speaker 9: Okay.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: Maybe you're not the best.
• 7:34
Speaker 10: After college, I had to come back to Bakersfield. I
• 7:37
Speaker 10: thought I was going to stay in L.A. Nope.
• 7:39
  Speaker 5: Nope.
• 7:41
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 7:42
  Speaker 7: Some stuff happened.
• 7:43
Speaker 10: With where I was working, and yeah, I had to
• 7:46
  Speaker 10: come back.
• 7:46
  Speaker 9: Okay.
• 7:47
Speaker 6: And then I got, I ended up having a child,
• 7:52
Speaker 6: and yeah, that didn't work out.
• 7:55
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 7:56
  Speaker 7: My first child.
• 7:57
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 7:58
  Speaker 1: Your first one.
• 7:58
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 7:59
Speaker 1: Are you with your parents now?
• 8:01
  Speaker 8: No.
• 8:02
  Speaker 6: Okay. Okay.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: Okay, so go ahead and finish saying what you were
• 8:07
Speaker 1: going to say. No, no worries, no.
• 8:13
Speaker 10: You distracted me. I don't even remember what I was
• 8:15
  Speaker 10: going to say.
• 8:17
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 8:17
Speaker 1: Well, thanks for calling.
• 8:20
Speaker 11: All right four two five four seven to seven hey
• 8:26
Speaker 11: i agree with you rome 100 rome on these kids
• 8:29
Speaker 11: days have less ambition and say everything is hard and
• 8:33
Speaker 11: they expect it to be easy and if it isn't
• 8:35
Speaker 11: easy they give up.
• 8:36
Speaker 1: Well most of them not all my hard-working son who's
• 8:39
Speaker 1: 23 years old lives in la and owns two homes
• 8:42
Speaker 1: And in the process of buying a third in Bakersfield,
• 8:45
Speaker 1: minimum he'll from his mom and me or something. So
• 8:52
Speaker 1: he will from his mom and me. He's doing decent.
• 8:56
Speaker 1: Most of his friends live at their mom's home. Okay,
• 8:59
Speaker 1: so you're calling to brag or what? You're not really
• 9:02
Speaker 1: helping out the concerned mom with the 30-year-old who is
• 9:06
Speaker 1: not doing anything with his life and still living at home.
• 9:08
Speaker 1: So they sent me a message that her son's 30
• 9:10
Speaker 1: years old, living at home, not doing nothing, right? She
• 9:12
Speaker 1: doesn't know how to handle it or what to do
• 9:14
Speaker 1: about it. She says he just, you know, stays in
• 9:19
Speaker 1: his room locked up, goes out, you know, at night
• 9:22
Speaker 1: with his girlfriend or friends.
• 9:23
  Speaker 2: I can't believe he has a girlfriend.
• 9:25
Speaker 1: What kind of girl would date a 30-year-old dude that
• 9:27
Speaker 1: lives at home with no ambition? Rome, I just told
• 9:31
Speaker 1: my son to be 22 years old. He needs to
• 9:35
Speaker 1: start paying rent. 250. This girl works.
• 9:39
  Speaker 6: Oh, wait.
• 9:40
Speaker 1: I need to. My soon to. Oh, she. Oh, it's
• 9:42
Speaker 1: a girl. Sorry. My soon to be 21 year old.
• 9:45
Speaker 1: I thought it said son. It's soon to be to
• 9:48
Speaker 1: start paying rent. 250. This girl works full time and
• 9:51
Speaker 1: only pays insurance and sell and wanted to come at
• 9:55
Speaker 1: me with not even my other friend's parents charge her
• 9:59
Speaker 1: that much. Well, I'm going to, I'm just going to
• 10:05
Speaker 1: say this and I'm going to disagree with you a
• 10:07
Speaker 1: little bit. When you said, you just said she works
• 10:09
Speaker 1: full time. She's working full time. She's actively being a
• 10:16
Speaker 1: productive part of society and, So, yeah, I wouldn't charge
• 10:19
Speaker 1: her that much. I wouldn't charge her anything, to be
• 10:21
Speaker 1: honest with you, if she was working full-time.
• 10:23
  Speaker 12: R-D-4-2-5-4-7-7.
• 10:23
Speaker 1: Good morning, how's it going on? Hey, what's up, Rome? Hey, Ruben,
• 10:28
  Speaker 1: what's up, man?
• 10:29
Speaker 4: Bro, you're right. 30 years old, that's just being lazy.
• 10:32
Speaker 4: You know what I mean? There's no excuse, especially right
• 10:35
Speaker 4: now during the holidays, Rome, everybody's hiring.
• 10:38
Speaker 1: Okay, I mean, yeah, but what do you do?
• 10:40
Speaker 4: You know, hey, well, I don't know, man. My mother-in-law
• 10:44
Speaker 4: was like that, Rome, when I saw her, well, her...
• 10:47
Speaker 4: My wife's stepdad passed away, and she got a lot
• 10:52
  Speaker 4: of money.
• 10:52
Speaker 3: Homeboy left her a lot of money, and the two
• 10:55
Speaker 3: younger ones didn't want to do anything wrong.
• 10:57
Speaker 4: Tell her you broke. Tell them you broke. You ain't
• 10:59
Speaker 4: got no more not even to pay the bills. They're
• 11:02
Speaker 4: going to shut PG & E off. And they got
• 11:04
Speaker 4: their butts up to go to work.
• 11:07
Speaker 1: Well, I mean, okay.
• 11:09
Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
• 11:10
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 11:11
  Speaker 8: Yeah, I don't know.
• 11:12
Speaker 4: I don't know, but hey, where she went wrong, yeah, exactly.
• 11:16
Speaker 4: Where did it go wrong? Because 30 years old? I mean,
• 11:19
Speaker 4: where is he getting money from to roll out on?
• 11:22
Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, that's a good question, too. Where does
• 11:24
  Speaker 1: that come from?
• 11:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess he's going to have to do something.
• 11:27
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 11:27
  Speaker 7: Yeah, all right.
• 11:27
Speaker 4: See, I'm like, here's the thing. You guys are going
• 11:30
Speaker 4: to think I'm soft, but it's not that simple, okay?
• 11:50
Speaker 1: He's 30 years old, she says, not doing anything with
• 11:53
Speaker 1: his life. So what does she do? You know, just
• 11:59
Speaker 1: throwing him out on the street and letting him have
• 12:01
Speaker 1: nothing is not what you do. You got to figure
• 12:04
Speaker 1: something out. I don't know what that something is, but
• 12:08
Speaker 1: you got to help him, you know, because, yeah, you
• 12:12
Speaker 1: got to help him. You don't just throw him out
• 12:14
Speaker 1: and say, figure it out. That's not what you do
• 12:16
  Speaker 1: as a parent.
• 12:17
Speaker 2: All right, someone was worried about her kid, 30 years old, right?
• 12:19
Speaker 1: She says... 30-year-old son. Doesn't help out around the house.
• 12:24
Speaker 1: Doesn't contribute financially. No drive to build a future. She
• 12:27
Speaker 1: just doesn't know what to do. She wants to know
• 12:28
Speaker 1: if times are really this hard. They're not. Times are
• 12:31
Speaker 1: not this hard. There's money to be made out there. RD-4254-727.
• 12:36
  Speaker 1: What's going on?
• 12:37
Speaker 9: Hey, Romy, it sounds like that is little mama's boy.
• 12:41
Speaker 1: Okay. Sounds like it.
• 12:43
Speaker 3: You know, he sounds like he's never been in a
• 12:45
Speaker 3: situation where he has to... be afraid that the electricity
• 12:49
Speaker 3: is going to go out, that they're not going to
• 12:50
Speaker 3: have no groceries, that they're not going to have a house.
• 12:53
Speaker 6: TSP saw a little bit of that fear in him.
• 12:58
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 12:59
Speaker 6: There's a lot of, you know, Raider Dave got two jobs,
• 13:02
Speaker 6: and he's still out here juggling women.
• 13:04
Speaker 4: So there's a lot that this boy can do if
• 13:07
Speaker 4: he just puts his mind to it.
• 13:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, I would agree with all of that. The problem
• 13:12
Speaker 1: is how do you get there?
• 13:15
Speaker 3: I mean, if the whole, you know, she could turn
• 13:17
Speaker 3: off the power, make him think that the electricity got
• 13:20
Speaker 3: turned off. Maybe that might work.
• 13:22
Speaker 4: Or jail. Jail is a great way to turn boys
• 13:25
  Speaker 4: into men.
• 13:26
  Speaker 2: You're an idiot.
• 13:27
Speaker 4: I'm just telling you.
• 13:28
Speaker 1: I'm not telling you you're an idiot. Get out of here.
• 13:30
  Speaker 1: All right. 8-4-2-5-4-7-7.
• 13:32
Speaker 2: Rome, let's see here.
• 13:36
  Speaker 1: In a way, Rome, a mother can't teach that. A
• 13:40
Speaker 1: mom is supposed to be there to love and nurture.
• 13:42
Speaker 1: The dad raises a young man. lets him know priorities
• 13:45
Speaker 1: and morals, not saying women can't, but most women cannot
• 13:49
Speaker 1: raise a boy to become a man, especially if they
• 13:51
Speaker 1: didn't come from a place that men weren't valued or degraded.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: I think a woman can teach work ethic. I mean,
• 14:06
Speaker 1: we're not talking about raising him to be a man.
• 14:10
Speaker 1: She's talking about raising him to have some, that he
• 14:12
Speaker 1: doesn't have any drive and is not contributing, is not
• 14:15
Speaker 1: trying to be part of society. I mean, is not
• 14:18
Speaker 1: trying to make his way and build a future. Men
• 14:21
Speaker 1: and women do it all the time. So what she's
• 14:24
Speaker 1: saying is not something that only a man can teach.
• 14:29
Speaker 1: I think that's where you guys are getting a little
• 14:33
Speaker 1: crazy when you say that. You sent me here.
• 14:35
Speaker 2: Yo, Rome, yesterday I went to watch the 49er game. Oh,
• 14:38
Speaker 2: I guess this must have been yesterday.
• 14:40
Speaker 1: Game at a Niner Empire gathering because a girlfriend invited me.
• 14:46
Speaker 1: I left her in those crybaby bandwaggers in the third
• 14:48
Speaker 1: quarter because all they were doing was complaining, whining, and
• 14:53
Speaker 1: regretting buying the jersey. I left to a nearby bar
• 14:58
Speaker 1: to watch the game with an older couple, and we
• 15:02
  Speaker 1: won never again.
• 15:03
Speaker 2: Oh, well, they did win.
• 15:03
Speaker 1: The Niners did win, right? Why were they complaining? 49ers undefeated,
• 15:08
Speaker 1: making it all the way. Yeah, I think the Bears
• 15:11
Speaker 1: will have something to do with that. If you haven't
• 15:12
Speaker 1: watched the Bears yet, you might want to check them
• 15:14
Speaker 1: out before you start crowning the Niners Super Bowl champs.
• 15:19
Speaker 1: Let me see here. What else were we going to
• 15:24
Speaker 1: talk about? Hold on, hold on, hold on. Okay, what
• 15:28
Speaker 1: else did you send me here?
• 15:31
Speaker 2: Rome, and it's too late. The poor man is ruined already.
• 15:34
Speaker 1: He's going to live with his mom forever.
• 15:36
Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, he might live.
• 15:37
Speaker 1: With his mom forever. You ain't lying.
• 15:39
Speaker 2: All right, good morning, Al.
• 15:40
  Speaker 1: What's going on?
• 15:41
Speaker 4: Starts news. We lost today.
• 15:47
Speaker 1: Did the Yankees lose again?
• 15:49
  Speaker 4: Yeah, they did.
• 15:51
Speaker 1: Oh, I thought they were coming back when I was
• 15:54
  Speaker 1: watching them.
• 15:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, no, no, but... Yeah, no excuses.
• 15:59
Speaker 5: They got their asses handed to them, you know.
• 16:02
Speaker 4: One more game and they're done, huh? They're done, son.
• 16:07
  Speaker 4: They're done.
• 16:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, one more and they're done.
• 16:10
Speaker 4: So I don't even want them to win one for pride.
• 16:13
Speaker 4: Throw pride out the window. Throw pride out the window.
• 16:18
Speaker 2: Just keep moving on.
• 16:19
  Speaker 1: I'm moving on.
• 16:20
  Speaker 6: That's funny.
• 16:21
Speaker 1: Moving on up. All right, Kelly.
• 16:23
  Speaker 10: All right, brother.
• 16:25
Speaker 1: So last night at Monday Night Football, we were just
• 16:27
Speaker 1: swinging it right, and the game was horrible.
• 16:29
Speaker 2: Food was great. Beers were cold. Game was awful.
• 16:33
Speaker 1: But Raider fans coming up to me, oh, Rome, we
• 16:37
Speaker 1: almost won, man. The Raiders almost won. So I went
• 16:40
Speaker 1: to look for the standings, right? And in the standings,
• 16:44
  Speaker 1: I saw wins, losses, and ties. I didn't see a
• 16:50
Speaker 1: stat line for we almost won.
• 16:53
  Speaker 4: So.
• 16:54
Speaker 1: I'm guessing we almost won means they lost. That's what
• 16:58
Speaker 1: that means, right? Yeah, what's going on?
• 17:02
Speaker 4: With Raider Dave? Well, yeah, everybody has something to say
• 17:05
Speaker 4: about you because you've been saying some nonsense.
• 17:06
Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, nobody likes you, Raider Dave. You've made some
• 17:22
Speaker 1: bad decisions in the last couple of weeks.
• 17:25
Speaker 3: It was amazing to see the unity amongst a bunch
• 17:28
Speaker 3: of nobodies for one person.
• 17:30
Speaker 1: Everybody's turning on you.
• 17:31
Speaker 4: It's okay. You know what? The gloves are coming off,
• 17:33
Speaker 4: and you're going to have to give me an opportunity
• 17:35
Speaker 4: to respond because Raider Dave got jokes, too.
• 17:38
Speaker 3: Raider Dave got a lot of jokes, so let's have
• 17:42
Speaker 3: a good day today.
• 17:42
  Speaker 4: Come on.
• 17:44
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 17:45
Speaker 1: Well, there you go.
• 17:46
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 17:47
Speaker 1: Raider Dave's going to get back at everybody. Hey, Rome,
• 17:49
Speaker 1: why is it that it's always the same old six
• 17:52
Speaker 1: people calling and no views on your podcast?
• 17:56
Speaker 2: Because nobody likes me and nobody listens.
• 17:58
Speaker 1: To the show. That's why. And why are you listening
• 18:01
Speaker 1: to the show? What did you send me? Hey, good morning, Rome.
• 18:05
Speaker 2: Can I get a shout out from wishing.
• 18:08
Speaker 1: Me a happy birthday?
• 18:09
  Speaker 9: Yeah.
• 18:09
  Speaker 1: Happy birthday.
• 18:10
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 18:13
Speaker 1: Happy birthday. I'm glad that you, not knowing who you
• 18:18
Speaker 1: are or how old you are, but happy birthday. All righty. Four, two, five, four, seven, seven.
• 18:23
Speaker 1: What'd somebody send me? Hootie and the Blowfish? Why'd you
• 18:27
Speaker 1: send me? Why'd you send me a Hootie and the Blowfish?
• 18:31
Speaker 1: Dolphins make me cry. I don't know why you sent
• 18:33
Speaker 1: me that video. Somebody sent me a video of the Dolphins. Oh,
• 18:38
Speaker 1: the Dolphins lost again. And then he sent me a video,
• 18:42
Speaker 1: a whole video of Hootie and the Blowfish singing a song,
• 18:46
Speaker 1: Dolphins Make Me Cry.
• 18:49
Speaker 2: The Dolphins suck. Come on, man.
• 18:52
Speaker 1: I think the Dolphins made a deal with the devil
• 18:54
Speaker 1: to have that undefeated season, you know, in 70, was
• 18:57
  Speaker 1: it 72?
• 18:58
Speaker 2: The undefeated season, and they.
• 18:59
Speaker 1: Were the only time, the only team that's ever done
• 19:03
Speaker 1: it went undefeated. I think the Dolphins made that deal
• 19:06
Speaker 1: with the devil, and the consequence of that is they're
• 19:08
Speaker 1: never going to win again. Because, yeah, they're terrible. But
• 19:12
Speaker 1: nobody cares about the Dolphins. Someone texted me and said,
• 19:15
Speaker 1: Good morning, Rome. Can I get a shout-out for my birthday?
• 19:17
Speaker 1: But didn't give me a name. Sorry, Rome. My name
• 19:19
Speaker 1: is Regina, and I'm 53. Well, hard to give you
• 19:25
Speaker 1: a shout-out, Regina, without knowing what your name is. But
• 19:29
  Speaker 1: happy birthday.
• 19:29
Speaker 2: Hope you have a good day.
• 19:34
Speaker 1: Rome, you should give me Snoop Dogg tickets for November 7th.
• 19:38
Speaker 1: It will make it better. No, if you're the dumbass
• 19:41
Speaker 1: that's going to like the Dolphins, ain't nothing going to
• 19:43
Speaker 1: make that better, okay? I can't help you. Why you always,
• 19:45
Speaker 1: you guys always, everybody expects me to help them with
• 19:49
Speaker 1: their kids. birthdays, their anniversaries, and their misery. I'm supposed
• 19:55
Speaker 1: to be the one to help you when you make
• 19:58
  Speaker 1: bad decisions.
• 20:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not doing that.
• 20:01
Speaker 1: All right, A42547, go buy your tickets. I don't even
• 20:04
Speaker 1: know when Snoop Dogg come in. I don't even have
• 20:07
Speaker 1: any tickets for Snoop Dogg. I can't even go to
• 20:09
Speaker 1: Snoop Dogg. And it's your fault you're a Dolphins fan,
• 20:13
  Speaker 1: not mine.
• 20:26
Speaker 8: You should have gave her a ticket, man.
• 20:28
Speaker 4: Listen, I feel sorry for her. Maybe you're supposed to
• 20:30
Speaker 4: feel sorry for that girl.
• 20:31
  Speaker 12: No.
• 20:31
  Speaker 8: She's a Miami fan.
• 20:32
Speaker 1: Was it a girl or a guy? Oh, I just
• 20:34
Speaker 1: assumed it was a guy. I didn't think women were
• 20:37
Speaker 1: dumb enough to be a fan of Miami. But okay,
• 20:39
Speaker 1: maybe it was a girl.
• 20:40
  Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
• 20:42
Speaker 4: If she is right here roaming.
• 20:45
Speaker 6: Around, she's my roommate roaming around.
• 20:49
Speaker 1: Oh, she's the Miami fan?
• 20:50
Speaker 4: She's the Miami fan.
• 20:54
  Speaker 2: Oh, God.
• 20:55
Speaker 1: Does she got a man? No, you got a man.
• 20:58
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a man.
• 20:59
  Speaker 1: What's his team?
• 21:01
  Speaker 10: Broncos.
• 21:01
Speaker 1: Well, root for them. Jesus Christ, don't root for them.
• 21:04
Speaker 1: At least you get away with rooting for your man's
• 21:06
Speaker 1: team because the Broncos are better than the Dolphins.
• 21:10
Speaker 6: I root for him to be in.
• 21:14
  Speaker 4: The main way.
• 21:15
Speaker 8: Hey, I try to be supportive when the Miami fans.
• 21:18
Speaker 4: I do try to be supportive.
• 21:19
Speaker 1: There's no reason to be supportive of that. Everybody knows
• 21:22
Speaker 1: they're a train wreck, okay? That's like support. Don't support stupidity.
• 21:28
Speaker 1: Support common sense and accountability. Do not support stupidity.
• 21:36
  Speaker 2: Later, man.
• 21:38
  Speaker 1: All right. 8-4-2-5-4.
• 21:41
  Speaker 12: 7-7.
• 21:41
  Speaker 6: Yo, Rome.
• 21:42
Speaker 2: Falcon Joe here. You see the dirty birds rise up?
• 21:46
Speaker 1: Yeah. The Saints suck. Yeah, it was an embarrassing game
• 21:50
Speaker 1: last night. It just, yeah. I don't know if the Saints,
• 21:54
Speaker 1: you got to remember the Saints suck. The Falcons are,
• 21:58
Speaker 1: that running back was pretty impressive, by the way. But yeah,
• 22:02
Speaker 1: you didn't beat nobody. That's like the Raider fans being
• 22:05
Speaker 1: all excited. They were three, you know, they beat the
• 22:06
Speaker 1: three worst teams in the NFL. So you didn't beat nobody.
• 22:11
Speaker 1: Calm down there, big joke. All righty, 4-2-5-4, 7-7. Come on, Romeo,
• 22:16
Speaker 1: this is Bronco Branson. What's going on?
• 22:20
Speaker 4: Come on, Romeo, don't be upset. You know you've got
• 22:22
Speaker 4: to give that dolphin girl a ticket.
• 22:25
Speaker 6: I heard she used to be a Raider fan.
• 22:28
Speaker 1: Oh, I cannot support stupidity. You guys all.
• 22:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, have a good one.
• 22:35
Speaker 1: Later. Oh, good morning now.
• 22:38
Speaker 4: Romeo, I'm trying to correct you. Who did the Chiefs beat?
• 22:42
Speaker 2: Who did the Chiefs beat?
• 22:43
Speaker 9: The Dolphins, the Colts, and then you beat the Raiders
• 22:46
Speaker 9: since the Raiders ain't nothing?
• 22:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, they beat who they're supposed to be.
• 22:50
  Speaker 4: Your 4-0 don't matter then.
• 22:52
Speaker 1: Well, they beat who they're supposed to be. That's what
• 22:54
  Speaker 1: the winners do.
• 22:55
Speaker 4: Oh, no, no, no, no, no.
• 22:56
Speaker 3: Because you said we beat the three worst teams. That's
• 22:59
Speaker 3: why we're 3-0. You beat the three worst teams in
• 23:01
  Speaker 3: the NFL yourself.
• 23:02
Speaker 12: So you should just be one.
• 23:04
Speaker 1: The Broncos are one of the worst teams in the NFL?
• 23:08
  Speaker 9: No, 1-0.
• 23:08
  Speaker 5: You're 1-0.
• 23:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go. All right, R-A-4-2-5-4, 7-7. Yo, Rome,
• 23:13
Speaker 1: Raider Dave, got Snoop Dogg tickets. Tell him whoever on
• 23:17
Speaker 1: my side, I'll hook them up. Plus, my royalty checks
• 23:20
Speaker 1: just hit yesterday. Where is Cowgirl Ruben at? Tell them,
• 23:25
Speaker 1: let's play Big Bang, take all, Big Bang, take little bank.
• 23:30
Speaker 2: Big, I don't know what that means.
• 23:32
Speaker 1: Apparently, Raider Dave's rich. Apparently, Raider Dave's some musician that,
• 23:36
Speaker 1: or some rapper or something that you guys have all
• 23:40
  Speaker 1: heard of.
• 23:40
Speaker 2: I've actually, I just know him from the show, so
• 23:42
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 23:45
Speaker 1: Let's see. Sip Uncle Martini in How Did the Ravens
• 23:51
Speaker 1: Lose to the, Oh, that, yeah, somebody said that. Somebody
• 23:57
Speaker 1: was telling me that last night, actually, at Monday Night Football,
• 23:59
Speaker 1: that the one game the Saints did win is the Ravens, right?
• 24:03
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 24:03
Speaker 1: And I love how the guy that just called talking
• 24:06
Speaker 1: about who the Chiefs beat. Well, in 10 years, since
• 24:09
Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes took over the, what, nine years? They've been
• 24:12
Speaker 1: to five Super Bowls, won three, and have won the
• 24:16
Speaker 1: AFC every year except for last year. But, yeah, you
• 24:20
Speaker 1: idiots want to try to compare the Raiders to the Chiefs.
• 24:22
Speaker 2: Who would the Chiefs beat?
• 24:24
Speaker 1: Who would the Raiders beat? The Raiders have beat nobodies.
• 24:28
Speaker 1: The Chiefs, I guess, at least beat one somebody. And
• 24:32
Speaker 1: the Raiders, you guys are supposed to be somebody, so
• 24:35
Speaker 1: I guess two, huh? But the Chiefs beat who they're
• 24:37
Speaker 1: supposed to beat. Apparently the Raiders can't get it done.
• 24:40
Speaker 6: Hey, good morning, Romeo.
• 24:41
  Speaker 1: Hey, what's up?
• 24:42
Speaker 10: Hey, I hear what you guys are talking about.
• 24:44
Speaker 6: I have no idea about football.
• 24:46
Speaker 10: I just cheer on for whoever's winning that moment. Because
• 24:51
Speaker 10: I'm not trying to get in the mix of football.
• 24:53
Speaker 10: I have too much going on. But I was calling
• 24:56
Speaker 10: to see if you're giving out tickets for.
• 24:57
Speaker 6: The Disney on Ice this weekend.
• 24:59
Speaker 1: Nope. Game all the way.
• 25:01
  Speaker 4: Oh, what?
• 25:02
  Speaker 7: Okay.
• 25:02
  Speaker 8: Thank you.
• 25:02
Speaker 1: Game all the way.
• 25:03
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 25:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, when is it?
• 25:05
  Speaker 2: The 9th through the 11th?
• 25:05
Speaker 1: There's no Ice is going on. No, we gave all
• 25:08
Speaker 1: those tickets away last week, the week before. I don't know.
• 25:12
  Speaker 5: Ah.
• 25:12
Speaker 1: But let me check real quick just to make sure
• 25:15
Speaker 1: that I don't have any more Disney on Ice tickets left.
• 25:20
  Speaker 1: I do not. I do not. I do not. I
• 25:22
Speaker 1: do not have any more. You got to listen for
• 25:25
Speaker 1: Dojo Cat. I got Dojo Cat tickets. We gave all
• 25:29
Speaker 1: the Disney on Ice tickets away.
• 25:30
Speaker 2: I don't have any Snoop Dogg tickets.
• 25:32
Speaker 1: That's in November. So you got to call Raider Dave
• 25:34
Speaker 1: for Snoop Dogg tickets.
• 25:36
Speaker 4: What's up, Romeo? Raider Rob checking in.
• 25:38
Speaker 1: Hey, what up, Rob?
• 25:39
Speaker 8: What's up, man? Hey, just a heads up.
• 25:43
Speaker 9: Today's got a movie coming out, and I.
• 25:45
Speaker 8: Want to go see it. You got any movie tickets?
• 25:47
  Speaker 1: What movie?
• 25:49
Speaker 4: It's that one with.
• 25:50
Speaker 3: The, was it Brad Pitt and the dog or something
• 25:53
  Speaker 3: like that?
• 25:54
Speaker 1: That one already came out.
• 25:56
  Speaker 7: Oh, did it?
• 25:56
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 25:57
Speaker 4: I'm behind. Well, you got any movie tickets, brother?
• 25:59
Speaker 1: No, I gave all my movie tickets away on Monday
• 26:01
Speaker 1: Night Football last night. I got nothing, man.
• 26:04
  Speaker 4: Oh, man.
• 26:06
Speaker 1: I'm telling everybody no. What? Go ahead. I'm going to
• 26:09
Speaker 1: let everybody know right now. I got nothing to give you.
• 26:12
Speaker 1: So if you just want something, listen to another station.
• 26:15
Speaker 1: Call somebody else. Call your mom. She'll give it to you.
• 26:18
  Speaker 2: What were you.
• 26:19
Speaker 1: Going to say, Rob?
• 26:20
Speaker 8: Hey, when are we going to go to the fair
• 26:21
Speaker 8: and get some of those falufel fries?
• 26:24
Speaker 1: Reuben and his bed of fries. The fair's over with.
• 26:28
  Speaker 1: All right, Rob.
• 26:28
Speaker 2: Get out of here.
• 26:30
  Speaker 1: Later.
• 26:31
Speaker 2: Oh, what's going on?
• 26:32
Speaker 4: I mean, Romeo, I'm not rich, but I'm not poor either.
• 26:36
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 26:37
  Speaker 8: I'm living comfortably.
• 26:39
  Speaker 4: I think I make more than a gardener or a
• 26:40
  Speaker 4: milk deliverer.
• 26:42
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 26:42
  Speaker 1: Any day. Sure.
• 26:44
Speaker 4: And, Romeo, you can tell that Raider Dave is one of.
• 26:47
Speaker 8: Your true friends because I don't call you begging you
• 26:50
  Speaker 8: for free stuff.
• 26:50
Speaker 9: I try to give you stuff.
• 26:51
Speaker 3: I try to enlighten you, give you knowledge.
• 26:53
Speaker 1: Think about that. I never said that. I never said
• 26:56
Speaker 1: you begged for anything. Never.
• 26:58
Speaker 4: I'm trying to give away these Snoop Dogg tickets.
• 27:00
Speaker 1: Where are they at? They should win them on your show.
• 27:03
Speaker 1: How do they get a hold of you, Raider Dave?
• 27:05
Speaker 4: It's coming soon. The Raider Dave podcast.
• 27:07
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 27:07
Speaker 2: Well, there you go.
• 27:08
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 27:09
  Speaker 12: Better.
• 27:09
Speaker 1: Well, there you go. You just got to wait for
• 27:11
Speaker 1: the Raider Dave podcast, and you guys can all win
• 27:14
Speaker 1: tickets to Snoop Dogg.
• 27:16
Speaker 4: Fader, Fader, Fader Dave.
• 27:19
Speaker 8: Let me just tell you something.
• 27:22
Speaker 5: That was a union job when I was a milkman,
• 27:25
Speaker 5: which that pays a lot. And also, it wasn't, I
• 27:31
  Speaker 5: drove a big 54-foot.
• 27:35
  Speaker 8: Milk truck, okay?
• 27:37
Speaker 13: So, and another thing, the last 10 years, I was
• 27:41
  Speaker 13: a tanker driver.
• 27:44
Speaker 4: So, they don't just get those jobs away, you know?
• 27:47
Speaker 13: The last time I was making $ 51 an hour, okay?
• 27:48
Speaker 4: So I retired at 55, okay?
• 27:56
Speaker 5: And when you can do that, then come and talk
• 28:00
  Speaker 5: to Chip.
• 28:02
Speaker 4: And you know what?
• 28:03
Speaker 13: The only thing I'm jealous of is I saw him
• 28:07
Speaker 13: one time at the Hard Rock Casino. Man, those glasses
• 28:10
Speaker 13: are so thick he could see the future. He was
• 28:12
Speaker 13: going through the casino and he was telling people.
• 28:14
Speaker 5: You're going to win.
• 28:15
Speaker 4: You're going to win. You're going to lose.
• 28:17
  Speaker 1: Oh, God.
• 28:18
  Speaker 4: Later.
• 28:20
Speaker 1: You guys see this high school? You know, High school
• 28:25
Speaker 1: football is serious business, right, in a lot of places.
• 28:27
Speaker 1: I didn't realize it was so serious in Bakersfield. I
• 28:31
Speaker 1: guess a couple of kids who played for Garces High School,
• 28:38
Speaker 1: apparently they moved from another school and now they're ineligible
• 28:42
Speaker 1: to play football for Garces because their paperwork or something,
• 28:45
Speaker 1: the address, some investigator, some private investigator found out that
• 28:50
Speaker 1: their transfer paperwork was wrong or something. I'm just reading
• 28:56
Speaker 1: the story right now. Somebody sent it to me because, man,
• 28:59
Speaker 1: I didn't realize high school. I guess since this NIL,
• 29:01
Speaker 1: since now you can get paid in college lots of
• 29:04
  Speaker 1: money to play football, I guess it's probably a trickle-down
• 29:07
Speaker 1: effect now, right? Because high schools now are going to
• 29:09
Speaker 1: have some serious business for these kids if it isn't already.
• 29:16
Speaker 1: I don't know a lot about high school football. but
• 29:18
Speaker 1: I was reading the story. So apparently they broke the rules.
• 29:21
Speaker 1: I apparently the address or something where they live, which
• 29:24
Speaker 1: I thought Garces was a private school. I thought you
• 29:26
Speaker 1: could live anywhere, must have some sort of different rules
• 29:30
Speaker 1: as it applies to sports. When you transfer from school
• 29:33
Speaker 1: to school, cause it's sanctioned by the, what is it?
• 29:35
Speaker 1: The California, the CIF sanctions it. Um, But I guess
• 29:41
Speaker 1: my question is not, I kind of understand what they're
• 29:45
Speaker 1: going for, but who hired the private investigator?
• 29:50
Speaker 2: Does anybody, and that would be my question.
• 29:52
Speaker 1: Who hired, did somebody from another school hire the private investigator?
• 29:55
Speaker 1: I mean, the way the story reads, it says, hold on.
• 30:00
Speaker 1: It says, it is unknown at this time. Oh, wait, no,
• 30:03
Speaker 1: hold on. That's not what it says. I guess the
• 30:06
Speaker 1: private eye says no school employees, coaches, or other individuals
• 30:09
Speaker 1: were involved with this investigation.
• 30:11
Speaker 2: Well, how did the investigation get started then? Who started it?
• 30:16
Speaker 1: And I was under the impression, now I'm no huge
• 30:19
Speaker 1: high school football fan, I was under impression that this
• 30:21
Speaker 1: stuff happens all the.
• 30:22
Speaker 2: Time in high school football.
• 30:25
Speaker 1: But there you go.
• 30:26
Speaker 2: Who hired the PI? You know? You got to believe
• 30:31
Speaker 2: they're not. If there was something fraudulent, which I don't.
• 30:34
Speaker 1: Know what it is, I don't know how, it's just them,
• 30:39
Speaker 1: whoever they are, you know?
• 30:42
  Speaker 2: All right, 8-4-2-5-4, 7-7, I don't know.
• 30:46
Speaker 1: Now that that NIL money, that college players can get paid,
• 30:49
Speaker 1: why wouldn't it trickle down to high schoolers? You got
• 30:51
Speaker 1: to get the next big players to your program, right?
• 30:54
Speaker 1: So this story I saw about this guy, these kids
• 31:00
Speaker 1: that Garce is getting kicked off the team or suspended
• 31:03
Speaker 1: because of something. Why did they hire a private investigator?
• 31:06
Speaker 1: Who hired the private investigator is what, and I, you know,
• 31:11
Speaker 1: it is kind of crazy though with now that they
• 31:14
Speaker 1: pay athletes in college. Yeah. Now that they pay them
• 31:20
Speaker 1: in college, that's going to change the dynamic of high school, right?
• 31:24
Speaker 1: All right, 842-5477. I'm just curious. I mean, is it
• 31:28
Speaker 1: that serious? Just is it really that serious, to be
• 31:34
Speaker 1: honest with you? You know, in high school sports, I
• 31:37
Speaker 1: know they take it real seriously in Texas, but I
• 31:41
Speaker 1: didn't realize they took it that seriously in Bakersfield.
• 31:43
Speaker 2: I mean, how big of a deal is it really?
• 31:47
Speaker 1: Hey, Rome, so I was talking to one of somebody.
• 31:50
Speaker 1: He said there were these two kids that were going
• 31:52
Speaker 1: to a Division I high school trying to transfer to Garces,
• 31:55
  Speaker 1: which is not a Division I. See, now, I don't
• 31:59
Speaker 1: understand all of that either. Somebody tried to explain that
• 32:02
Speaker 1: to me one time. I don't understand all the Division I, II, IA,
• 32:06
  Speaker 1: I don't understand. I don't know which one's which, and
• 32:08
Speaker 1: apparently they can change. So they think it's other high schools,
• 32:14
Speaker 1: somebody from another high school. Huh, that's interesting. Well, somebody's
• 32:20
Speaker 1: got to be mad about it, right, for that to happen?
• 32:22
Speaker 1: Good morning, Hop. What's going on?
• 32:24
Speaker 4: I think it was Big Boy or Raider Joe called
• 32:27
  Speaker 4: the P.I.
• 32:28
Speaker 1: Gosh, yeah, there you go.
• 32:31
Speaker 2: Is it that serious?
• 32:32
Speaker 1: Is high school football or high school sports that serious
• 32:37
Speaker 1: in town that that's what's going on?
• 32:40
  Speaker 2: Somebody's snitching?
• 32:41
Speaker 1: Hey, good morning, Roman. I'm glad that you covered that
• 32:43
Speaker 1: because my son plays for And I still wasn't sure
• 32:48
Speaker 1: what was going on. Oh, yeah.
• 32:51
Speaker 2: I mean, somebody sent me the story, a guy, football guy.
• 32:55
Speaker 1: He sent me the story about it. I don't get it.
• 33:01
Speaker 1: I don't want to understand why it's such a big deal, whatever.
• 33:03
Speaker 1: But who hired the P.I. to follow the kids around?
• 33:08
Speaker 1: I mean, that's kind of creepy in itself, right? Who
• 33:11
Speaker 1: hired a P.I.? Good morning, Hal. What's going on?
• 33:15
  Speaker 4: Hey, Romeo.
• 33:16
Speaker 8: I think it was somebody from Liberty High School that
• 33:19
Speaker 8: did it, because that's where those two young men came from.
• 33:22
Speaker 4: And they got a lot of money.
• 33:23
Speaker 1: Well, in the story, it says that nobody, coaches, parents,
• 33:28
Speaker 1: or other high school officials were involved in the story
• 33:30
Speaker 1: that I read. But you might be right. Yeah, that's right.
• 33:34
Speaker 3: That's what that investor, that PI guy is saying.
• 33:36
Speaker 4: But he also said that there's more to come, too. So,
• 33:40
Speaker 4: you know, there's like Bakersfield Christian. I always thought Garces was.
• 33:43
Speaker 3: Exempt from stuff like that because it's such a small
• 33:46
  Speaker 3: private school.
• 33:46
Speaker 1: Well, they're exempt from, they should be exempt from boundaries
• 33:51
Speaker 1: for you to go to school there, but they're not
• 33:53
Speaker 1: exempt from CIF rules.
• 33:56
  Speaker 7: Okay.
• 33:56
Speaker 1: So I believe that's what it is. But I just
• 33:59
  Speaker 1: don't understand why it's a big deal. I mean, they're
• 34:01
Speaker 1: high school football players. That's what I don't get. Is
• 34:04
Speaker 1: it really that serious? Is that serious? I don't know
• 34:09
  Speaker 1: if it's that serious or not. That's what I can't
• 34:11
  Speaker 1: figure out.
• 34:12
Speaker 13: Well, they're opening up a big old can of waters
• 34:14
Speaker 13: because Bexel Christian had a ton of transfers.
• 34:17
Speaker 3: Even Foothill High School.
• 34:19
  Speaker 4: So there's a lot.
• 34:20
Speaker 1: Of transfers that happened this last offseason, I guess you'd say.
• 34:25
Speaker 4: But it's other sports, too, like Liberty's baseball program. They
• 34:28
Speaker 4: have a bunch of studs.
• 34:29
  Speaker 1: There, too.
• 34:29
  Speaker 3: Oh, really?
• 34:29
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 34:30
Speaker 1: Well, I mean, you can't– you've got to imagine the
• 34:34
Speaker 1: trickle-down effect, which has happened with college now, where you
• 34:38
Speaker 1: can just– it used to be in college, if you transferred,
• 34:41
Speaker 1: you had to wait a year to play. Now you
• 34:44
Speaker 1: can just transfer whenever you want and get paid. So
• 34:47
Speaker 1: I guess it only makes sense for it to trickle
• 34:49
Speaker 1: down to high schools, though, too.
• 34:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, and they are stud athletes, too.
• 34:54
  Speaker 4: So I don't know, man. It's a bunch of crap.
• 34:57
Speaker 1: But here's my question about a stud athlete, okay? If
• 35:01
Speaker 1: regardless of where a stud athlete plays, whatever school they
• 35:05
Speaker 1: go to, a college is going to find them.
• 35:09
Speaker 4: It's not like that.
• 35:10
  Speaker 1: I mean, so what does it that's what I can't
• 35:13
Speaker 1: figure out. You're not going to if you're good at something,
• 35:16
Speaker 1: they'll find you regardless of where you're at.
• 35:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, I've always said that, too.
• 35:20
Speaker 4: You have decent grades, too, and all that stuff. Yeah,
• 35:24
Speaker 4: it doesn't matter where you're at.
• 35:25
Speaker 1: I don't even think you've got to have decent grades.
• 35:26
Speaker 1: If you're good enough to play a sport for a college,
• 35:29
Speaker 1: I think they'll figure it out. They'll find you and
• 35:31
Speaker 1: they'll get you in. So I don't get it. I mean,
• 35:33
Speaker 1: it's just, but I guess it would make sense. It's
• 35:36
Speaker 1: kind of the trickle-down effect of it happening like that.
• 35:39
Speaker 1: If colleges are changing, high schools are going to have
• 35:41
  Speaker 1: to change, too.
• 35:43
  Speaker 13: Yeah.
• 35:43
Speaker 4: I heard that these guys, these kids were being like stopped, man. But,
• 35:46
  Speaker 4: you know, it's it's much.
• 35:48
  Speaker 5: Wow.
• 35:48
  Speaker 2: That's creepy, bro.
• 35:50
  Speaker 1: That's just creepy.
• 35:51
Speaker 4: And this is young. Yeah, this is young men, you know.
• 35:53
Speaker 2: I do got to tell you something funny, though.
• 35:58
Speaker 1: High schoolers, people in high schools in smaller towns. Hold
• 36:03
Speaker 1: a grudge. I know people that still hate people they
• 36:06
Speaker 1: went to high school with 30 years ago.
• 36:08
Speaker 2: They're still mad at them.
• 36:10
Speaker 1: I'm like, my God, get over it.
• 36:12
  Speaker 4: All right, brother.
• 36:15
Speaker 1: Thanks for calling, man.
• 36:16
  Speaker 6: Later.
• 36:17
Speaker 1: All right, thank you.
• 36:18
  Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
• 36:20
Speaker 1: I hear the stories. I hear all the stories just
• 36:22
Speaker 1: like you guys do. Who knows what... But, yeah, it's
• 36:28
Speaker 1: funny how small-town, not athletics, but small-town high schools like Bakersfield, and, man,
• 36:34
  Speaker 1: you people.
• 36:35
Speaker 2: Be holding a grudge against each other.
• 36:37
Speaker 1: Still mad. Still mad about something that happened when you
• 36:40
Speaker 1: were a freshman 25 years ago, and you see that
• 36:42
Speaker 1: person at Walmart pissed off at them. Oh, they did
• 36:45
Speaker 1: that 25 years, even though you're supposedly doing better than
• 36:48
Speaker 1: you were. What did Raider Dave say here? Plus, oh,
• 36:52
Speaker 1: he says, just saying, if Big Boy and Raider Joe
• 36:55
Speaker 1: can sell out against a fellow Raider fan, against a Chief,
• 37:02
Speaker 1: there's no telling what them two fakes will do. So
• 37:05
Speaker 1: because Big Boy and Raider Joe, who I have been
• 37:09
Speaker 1: friends with for 30 years, personally been friends with, they
• 37:14
Speaker 1: were supportive of me because the Chiefs won and not
• 37:17
Speaker 1: supportive of Raider Dave because the Raiders lost then. They
• 37:21
Speaker 1: must be fakes. Okay.
• 37:23
Speaker 2: Party for two, five, four, seven, seven.
• 37:27
Speaker 1: Yo, Rome, it's all these parents that think they're entitled
• 37:30
Speaker 1: and think they have an opinion instead of letting the
• 37:32
Speaker 1: kids just play. It's just high school. Not that serious.
• 37:36
Speaker 1: Let them have fun. It happens all the time. I'm
• 37:38
Speaker 1: sure they left because one parent was saying they are
• 37:44
Speaker 1: what their little kid wasn't getting playtime. It's just so
• 37:48
Speaker 1: ridiculous now. Like you said before, these grown-ass adults that
• 37:52
Speaker 1: are trying to live through their kids because they couldn't
• 37:55
  Speaker 1: make it.
• 37:58
  Speaker 2: Well, maybe.
• 38:00
Speaker 1: I'm just, you know, here's the thing. High school is competitive, right?
• 38:07
Speaker 1: Especially in Bakersfield. You hear guys that haven't been in
• 38:10
Speaker 1: high school in 25, 30 years still talking about how
• 38:14
Speaker 1: my high school team beat your high school team. So
• 38:17
Speaker 1: I get the competitiveness of it. I guess what I'm
• 38:20
Speaker 1: trying to figure out is with college changing so dramatically,
• 38:24
Speaker 1: college is dramatically different now. But high school in itself,
• 38:30
Speaker 1: does it matter where you play high school?
• 38:33
Speaker 2: Does it matter where you play.
• 38:36
Speaker 1: A sport in high school? Obviously, some high schools in
• 38:39
Speaker 1: Bakersfield are known for for certain sports, whether it be volleyball.
• 38:45
Speaker 1: Some high schools have better wrestling teams. Some high schools
• 38:47
Speaker 1: have better water polo, volleyball, football, baseball. But to me,
• 38:53
Speaker 1: I've always believed that the college recruits know how to
• 38:56
Speaker 1: evaluate talent so well that they'll find a talented person.
• 39:04
Speaker 2: No matter what school you go to. I believe that. Now,
• 39:07
Speaker 2: I could be wrong. I could be 100% wrong about that.
• 39:11
  Speaker 1: But I believe these college, I don't think, I mean,
• 39:15
Speaker 1: unless you're La Sala or what are those teams in L.A.
• 39:18
Speaker 1: that are just dominant all the time? I mean, unless
• 39:20
Speaker 1: you're one of those guys. But I would think that,
• 39:24
Speaker 1: you know, no matter what sport you play in Bakersfield,
• 39:28
Speaker 1: no matter what high school you play for, a college
• 39:30
Speaker 1: recruit will find you if you're talented enough to play college.
• 39:33
  Speaker 4: Right?
• 39:34
  Speaker 1: Am I wrong about that? RD4254, 7 to 7.
• 39:36
Speaker 12: Hi, I'm... I just wanted to tell you, my son,
• 39:43
Speaker 12: he got signed from West High School, so you're exactly right.
• 39:46
Speaker 12: I mean, if they got talent, I mean, they got talent,
• 39:48
Speaker 12: but they also have stats online, you know, so they
• 39:52
Speaker 12: follow the stats, too.
• 39:54
  Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
• 39:55
Speaker 12: But, yeah, they, no matter what school you go to.
• 39:58
Speaker 1: Well, that's what I would think.
• 40:00
  Speaker 12: I mean, okay.
• 40:00
Speaker 1: All right. Well, thanks for calling.
• 40:03
  Speaker 5: Later.
• 40:03
  Speaker 2: I mean, that's what I would think. If you're talented,
• 40:06
  Speaker 2: you're talented.
• 40:09
  Speaker 7: Good morning.
• 40:09
Speaker 1: How's it going on?
• 40:10
Speaker 6: Hey, what's up, Rome?
• 40:11
Speaker 4: This is Seahawk Lou.
• 40:12
Speaker 1: Yeah, Lou, I'm just getting ready to read your text messages.
• 40:15
  Speaker 9: What, uh.
• 40:17
  Speaker 1: What?
• 40:18
Speaker 9: I was going to say something else, though, too.
• 40:20
Speaker 1: Well, let me read it first. Seahawk Lou's text has said,
• 40:23
Speaker 1: dumb things down. This is how you know Seahawk Lou's
• 40:26
Speaker 1: the dumbest in Bakersfield, because he's going to dumb things
• 40:27
  Speaker 1: down for us.
• 40:29
Speaker 2: The schools are in different levels.
• 40:31
Speaker 1: Easy, medium, hard. Two players on a hard division are
• 40:34
Speaker 1: trying to get to a school in an easy division
• 40:37
Speaker 1: so they can dominate. Just... just how you can explain things,
• 40:42
Speaker 1: I guess. All right, what do you got to say?
• 40:44
Speaker 9: Well, I feel like this whole situation kind of reminds
• 40:48
Speaker 9: me of, like, when they didn't want Bobby Boucher playing
• 40:52
Speaker 9: for the Mud Dogs.
• 40:53
Speaker 1: Oh, God. You see, you really are dumbing things down
• 40:56
Speaker 1: for us. Oh, my God.
• 40:58
Speaker 9: Yeah, so everybody could understand what's going on.
• 41:00
Speaker 8: You know what I mean?
• 41:01
Speaker 9: You got some people listening like, what?
• 41:03
Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to tell you like this, Lou, and
• 41:06
Speaker 1: I was going to say this when I read your
• 41:08
Speaker 1: text was, Brock Purdy was the last person picked in
• 41:11
Speaker 1: the draft. Tom Brady was, what, a hundred and some?
• 41:15
Speaker 1: And they ended up being very successful. One is being successful.
• 41:20
Speaker 1: But my point is, I think that these college recruiters
• 41:25
Speaker 1: are smart enough and know their job enough to... understand
• 41:32
Speaker 1: if a kid is just dominating within a certain division
• 41:35
Speaker 1: or a certain level of easiness or hardness. I think
• 41:38
Speaker 1: they're smarter than that. I don't think you can go
• 41:42
Speaker 1: play somewhere, Lou, against an easy squad, so to speak,
• 41:47
Speaker 1: as you put it, and a college recruiter go, well,
• 41:50
Speaker 1: I'm going to get this guy because they know the
• 41:52
Speaker 1: difference in the levels of sport. I don't think they're
• 41:54
  Speaker 1: that naive.
• 41:56
Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like you're right on that. But also.
• 42:01
Speaker 9: there's people that make it difficult for kids to just play,
• 42:06
Speaker 9: which I don't think is right.
• 42:08
Speaker 3: Just let the kids play.
• 42:09
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 42:09
  Speaker 3: All right.
• 42:10
Speaker 1: I didn't know high school sports was that serious. I
• 42:12
Speaker 1: didn't realize that. I've never seen a story like this
• 42:16
Speaker 1: before in Bakersfield, but I don't think it was that serious.
• 42:21
  Speaker 4: It's a crazy story, man.
• 42:22
Speaker 9: I mean, even Wasco and Shafter to this day, I
• 42:25
  Speaker 9: hate the generals.
• 42:27
Speaker 4: You know what I mean? And I'm 36 years old.
• 42:30
Speaker 1: Like I said, you guys need to get over it.
• 42:33
Speaker 1: I go to the Wasco-Shafter games when they're in Shafter. Yeah,
• 42:36
  Speaker 1: you idiots.
• 42:37
Speaker 2: Whole town shuts down so.
• 42:39
Speaker 1: You can hate each other. What the hell is wrong
• 42:40
  Speaker 1: with you people?
• 42:41
Speaker 9: Yeah, we have these big fires burning a big general
• 42:45
  Speaker 9: and everything.
• 42:46
  Speaker 4: It's fun.
• 42:47
Speaker 1: Oh, you guys are such idiots.
• 42:49
Speaker 2: All right, get out of here.
• 42:52
Speaker 1: See what I mean?
• 42:53
  Speaker 2: Holding grudges.
• 42:54
Speaker 1: All right. Where are we?
• 42:56
Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, Rome.
• 42:58
Speaker 1: At the youth level, there are teams and parents who
• 43:01
Speaker 1: will force their kids to reclass in order to play
• 43:04
Speaker 1: another year at the youth level instead of playing in
• 43:06
Speaker 1: high school. Parents do that so their kids can outshine
• 43:09
Speaker 1: younger players. There's kids playing youth football that should be
• 43:14
Speaker 1: freshmen or sophomores and yet still playing the youth football.
• 43:18
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 43:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, they said that quarterback for the, even Troy Aikman
• 43:22
Speaker 1: made a statement last night, that quarterback for the, I
• 43:25
Speaker 1: think it was the Saints, seven years in college played?
• 43:28
  Speaker 1: I don't know how that's even possible. I get what
• 43:31
Speaker 1: you're saying. But like I just told Seahawk Lou, I
• 43:36
Speaker 1: think when these recruits evaluate high school athletes, they're smarter
• 43:44
Speaker 1: and have been doing it long enough to understand that
• 43:47
Speaker 1: if they have talent, and they believe they're talented enough
• 43:51
  Speaker 1: to play on.
• 43:51
Speaker 2: A college level, they'll take them.
• 43:55
Speaker 1: I don't think you putting the best kid from the
• 44:01
Speaker 1: hardest level on the lowest level or whatever... You know,
• 44:05
  Speaker 1: if you're second string on a team that's in a
• 44:08
Speaker 1: division that's harder and you go transfer to a school
• 44:11
Speaker 1: that's easier because you look better there, I don't think
• 44:16
Speaker 1: these college recruiters are that stupid. I think they know.
• 44:20
Speaker 1: I think they know how to evaluate talent. Hold on.
• 44:23
  Speaker 8: Oh, my God.
• 44:23
Speaker 4: He went and did it.
• 44:24
  Speaker 9: Who?
• 44:25
Speaker 8: Now we got to rename him. Louis Boucher. Oh.
• 44:29
Speaker 13: I can't believe he brought up that movie. He was
• 44:33
Speaker 13: better off saying, on the way, Megan.
• 44:36
Speaker 4: Don't you say you like to see grown men naked?
• 44:41
  Speaker 4: Louis Boucher.
• 44:42
Speaker 1: Yes, his new name. God, Lou. Oh, my God. But
• 44:48
Speaker 1: you got to be fair about it. I go to
• 44:51
Speaker 1: the TAF games. I go to the TAF-Wosco rivalry game
• 44:55
Speaker 1: because I got a couple of buddies who, boy, they
• 45:01
Speaker 1: act silly. Go to that game and the whole town
• 45:03
Speaker 1: closes down. I can't even get a Subway sandwich because
• 45:08
Speaker 1: they're at the game. You know? It's just, and these
• 45:12
Speaker 1: guys are like 40 years old. Talking about, we hate Wasco.
• 45:18
Speaker 1: We hate Shafter. It reminds me of that movie, if
• 45:21
Speaker 1: you haven't seen it yet. I know it's an old
• 45:23
Speaker 1: school movie. The Best of Times with Robin Williams and
• 45:26
Speaker 1: Kurt Russell. Where Taft High lost to Bakersfield High. I
• 45:31
Speaker 1: never made a movie about it! You idiots hold grudges.
• 45:38
Speaker 1: They made a movie about it. Yeah, what's going on?
• 45:45
  Speaker 4: Good morning, Romeo.
• 45:46
  Speaker 10: Hey, what's up?
• 45:48
Speaker 6: I was going to say high school, the issue with
• 45:52
Speaker 6: high school recruiting is big business because college recruiting is
• 45:58
  Speaker 6: big money.
• 45:59
Speaker 1: That would make sense. It trickles down.
• 46:04
Speaker 6: Being able to find a high school student with the
• 46:10
Speaker 6: right grades, the right build, and the right performance that
• 46:14
Speaker 6: a college would want, like a.
• 46:16
Speaker 7: College recruiter would want, is a needle in a haystack.
• 46:20
  Speaker 4: We can just.
• 46:21
Speaker 6: Say it like that because there's a lot of good players.
• 46:25
Speaker 8: And, yeah, some have better grades than each other.
• 46:27
Speaker 6: But what it comes down to is you're trying to
• 46:31
Speaker 6: get your kid the best, I guess the best view
• 46:38
  Speaker 6: possible for.
• 46:40
Speaker 7: Most people to be able to see them.
• 46:42
Speaker 1: Let me ask you this then. If I played on
• 46:46
Speaker 1: a basketball team, which was, and let's just say I
• 46:50
Speaker 1: was good enough to beat the worst teams in high school.
• 46:56
Speaker 1: but not good enough to beat the best teams in
• 46:58
Speaker 1: high school. Do you think a college recruiter is going
• 47:01
Speaker 1: to look at me and say, we've got to get
• 47:02
Speaker 1: that dominant Romeo because he's just beating these kids?
• 47:05
  Speaker 4: No.
• 47:06
Speaker 1: That's what my point is. I don't think it matters.
• 47:09
Speaker 1: They don't look like that. Okay.
• 47:13
Speaker 6: That's why who is winning in town, the talked-about schools,
• 47:19
Speaker 6: we're not going to say the new coaches, but the
• 47:22
Speaker 6: coaches with the best– um the best um lord i
• 47:27
Speaker 6: can't even think just more the best stats those are
• 47:30
Speaker 6: why these parents and these students these.
• 47:32
Speaker 7: Kids are trying to go to their schools and.
• 47:35
Speaker 6: They're being recruited they're trying to gather up the best.
• 47:38
Speaker 7: Team they have possible because it's.
• 47:40
Speaker 6: Big money it's big money for these high schools because
• 47:43
Speaker 6: football pays for all the other sports at the school.
• 47:46
  Speaker 1: Oh i don't I didn't realize football was that. I
• 47:48
Speaker 1: didn't realize football made money for high schools.
• 47:50
  Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
• 47:50
  Speaker 1: I didn't realize that.
• 47:51
Speaker 4: Football is what pays for everything.
• 47:53
Speaker 6: It pays for golf, softball, volleyball, you name it.
• 47:56
  Speaker 1: Okay.
• 47:57
Speaker 4: But with that... For.
• 48:00
Speaker 7: You to be able to be seen.
• 48:02
Speaker 6: At a college level to get these recruits to see,
• 48:06
Speaker 6: your team has to be worth something.
• 48:08
Speaker 7: Because just because, you know, like you said, these smaller.
• 48:12
Speaker 6: Schools that play for these smaller, not smaller leagues, but.
• 48:16
Speaker 4: Not at a higher level.
• 48:18
Speaker 6: I mean, they may eventually look at them. You might
• 48:21
Speaker 6: have somebody with stats so great. that they may gander attention,
• 48:26
Speaker 6: but on an average, you're not going to get people
• 48:28
Speaker 6: to look at them like that. So that's why they
• 48:30
Speaker 6: start moving schools and stuff like that.
• 48:32
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 48:32
Speaker 1: Well, thanks for calling. I appreciate it.
• 48:35
  Speaker 5: No problem.
• 48:35
Speaker 1: All right, bye. I mean, it makes sense what she said.
• 48:39
Speaker 1: I mean, the trickle-down effect of the pros to what
• 48:43
Speaker 1: college is doing now to high school.
• 48:44
Speaker 6: Hey, good morning, Remy. I was calling back because I
• 48:46
Speaker 6: wanted to give you a fun fact in Kern County.
• 48:49
  Speaker 8: Okay.
• 48:50
Speaker 6: In 1997, the Kern High School District imposed the penalty
• 48:57
Speaker 6: that if you transferred from one school already being a
• 49:02
Speaker 6: high school student, so in other words, being in the
• 49:04
Speaker 6: ninth grade or above, and you transferred to another school,
• 49:07
Speaker 6: you would have to sit out for two years.
• 49:10
  Speaker 1: Two years?
• 49:11
Speaker 6: Two years back then. I think they wound up, it
• 49:14
Speaker 6: might have been one and then went to two or
• 49:16
  Speaker 6: two to one.
• 49:16
Speaker 3: I'm not exactly sure.
• 49:18
Speaker 6: But the reason for that was because of my brother.
• 49:22
Speaker 6: His name was Aaron Graham. He wound up leaving South
• 49:26
Speaker 6: High School because they sucked. And he went to BHS
• 49:32
Speaker 6: and they wound up winning, I believe, a Valley Championship title.
• 49:37
Speaker 7: If I'm not mistaken.
• 49:38
Speaker 4: If not, they did.
• 49:40
Speaker 6: Very well in the two years that he was there,
• 49:42
Speaker 6: and he wound up getting a full-ride scholarship to USC.
• 49:45
Speaker 6: But South High was so mad, so mad, that they
• 49:52
  Speaker 6: used to have.
• 49:52
Speaker 7: Whole meetings with the district.
• 49:54
Speaker 6: They were trying to get him, like, Because he also
• 50:00
Speaker 6: wrestled and he threw track.
• 50:01
Speaker 7: They were trying to get him not to be able
• 50:03
Speaker 7: to do any type.
• 50:04
Speaker 6: Of sports until he left. I mean, they had athletic
• 50:08
Speaker 6: directors coming there trying to beg and plead for him
• 50:11
Speaker 6: to please not leave.
• 50:13
  Speaker 4: Sports is serious.
• 50:16
Speaker 2: I didn't realize it was that serious.
• 50:18
Speaker 1: I knew it was serious, but not this serious where
• 50:20
Speaker 1: people are just now, I mean.
• 50:22
Speaker 6: Oh, they were, they were up in arms because South
• 50:25
Speaker 6: thought they had a, they thought they had a hog,
• 50:28
Speaker 6: you know, in their program now and that they were
• 50:30
Speaker 6: just going to be something great. And my brother even,
• 50:33
Speaker 6: you know, fell into.
• 50:34
Speaker 7: That hype that, hey, I'm going to come here.
• 50:36
Speaker 6: We're going to be something great. But their workout. The
• 50:39
Speaker 6: work ethic and their attitude and whatever just didn't merge
• 50:42
Speaker 6: with what her brother was. So he went to VHS
• 50:44
Speaker 6: and they did very well. And baby South High was.
• 50:48
Speaker 1: See, look, your brother started all this controversy 20 years...
• 50:51
  Speaker 1: What is it?
• 50:52
  Speaker 4: 30 years later?
• 50:53
  Speaker 12: In 1997.
• 50:54
Speaker 1: We're going to blame your brother now. Call him and
• 50:57
Speaker 1: tell him. Blame him.
• 50:58
Speaker 4: Hey, thanks for calling.
• 50:59
  Speaker 6: No problem.
• 51:00
  Speaker 5: Bye.
• 51:06
Speaker 1: Yo, Rome, my dad would tell his stories about how
• 51:10
Speaker 1: Delano would be at war with early mite and rich
• 51:14
Speaker 1: grove in high school. So I started telling my friends
• 51:17
Speaker 1: about the beef from back then and come to find
• 51:21
Speaker 1: out their dads told them very similar stories. We held
• 51:24
Speaker 1: the beef and started treating those out-of-towners different, which led
• 51:29
Speaker 1: to Delano slash early mite slash rich grove beef in
• 51:32
Speaker 1: my high school years. It was fun.
• 51:34
  Speaker 2: Ha ha ha.
• 51:37
Speaker 1: I mean, you might take your high school beef.
• 51:39
Speaker 2: A little too seriously. You know what I'm saying?
• 51:41
Speaker 1: You might want to relax, especially when you become a,
• 51:45
Speaker 1: you know, if you're a successful grown adult. Man, get
• 51:48
Speaker 1: over it. All right. Rome, it makes a small difference
• 51:52
Speaker 1: on which high school you go to. I've been hearing
• 51:54
Speaker 1: a lot of kids from Liberty are getting big scholarships
• 51:57
Speaker 1: for football. I doubt kids from Tehachapi are getting the
• 52:00
Speaker 1: same exposure. Fun fact, that's why Ryan Matthews came to Bakersfield.
• 52:06
Speaker 1: He played peewee in Tehachapi. And someone told his mom
• 52:10
Speaker 1: she better get him into a bigger school to get
• 52:13
Speaker 1: the exposure he needed. And look what happened. And I
• 52:16
Speaker 1: know this for a fact.
• 52:18
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 52:20
  Speaker 1: I guess. I guess.
• 52:21
  Speaker 9: All right.
• 52:23
Speaker 1: Hey, Roman, I think it's a good idea for them
• 52:24
Speaker 1: to make sure these kids stay in the school they
• 52:27
Speaker 1: belong to. The local youth leagues have these rules even
• 52:31
Speaker 1: though kids get around it. It makes it hard to
• 52:34
Speaker 1: build teams when these parents don't follow the rules. I mean, yeah,
• 52:39
Speaker 1: I guess it does.
• 52:40
  Speaker 9: You're right.
• 52:40
Speaker 1: It's already 4-2-5-4, 7-7. What did you guys send me here? Rome,
• 52:46
Speaker 1: there is college scouts that have people going to different
• 52:49
Speaker 1: high schools looking for talent. And when they find them,
• 52:52
Speaker 1: they try to get them to go to Bakersfield Christian
• 52:55
Speaker 1: or Independent or Garces because when they come from other colleges,
• 53:01
Speaker 1: they go to certain high schools to scout. I don't
• 53:05
Speaker 1: understand that. I don't understand what you're saying there, but okay. Hey, Rom,
• 53:12
Speaker 1: speaking of only beating the worst teams, how about them Raiders? Yeah,
• 53:17
Speaker 1: the Raiders have only beaten the worst teams. Hey, Rom,
• 53:22
Speaker 1: put on a Raiders song. Hey, Rome, I love when
• 53:26
Speaker 1: people know for a fact. You know, maybe they, I
• 53:34
Speaker 1: don't know. I mean, things become facts real quick in
• 53:37
Speaker 1: a small town. Rumors become facts real quick, okay? I
• 53:41
Speaker 1: actually have no idea what's going on. I read the
• 53:43
Speaker 1: story on the news about it, and yeah, so I don't,
• 53:54
  Speaker 1: you know. I just, I, what I was, I just
• 53:56
Speaker 1: didn't know it was that I didn't know high school
• 53:58
Speaker 1: sports was that serious.
• 54:01
Speaker 2: I mean, I understand the amount of.
• 54:02
Speaker 1: Money that's involved in college sports and the amount of
• 54:05
Speaker 1: money that's involved in professional sports. I just didn't realize
• 54:09
Speaker 1: it had trickled down, uh, to high school to the
• 54:13
Speaker 1: extent that somebody hired a private investigator to follow these kids. Um,
• 54:22
Speaker 1: And maybe it was the CIF. Maybe it was the
• 54:24
Speaker 1: CIF who hired the private investigator. But it's obviously, obviously
• 54:32
Speaker 1: something's going on here. And that is a little more
• 54:37
Speaker 1: serious than I think it needs to be.
• 54:39
Speaker 2: But, you know, who hired the PI? That's what I'd
• 54:43
  Speaker 2: like to know.
• 54:44
Speaker 1: And if you hired a PI to follow some kids
• 54:47
Speaker 1: around because you're bent over whatever decisions they made or
• 54:51
Speaker 1: their parents made, then man, what is wrong with you?
• 54:55
Speaker 1: Why do you care? How does it affect you?
• 54:59
  Speaker 5: Right?
• 55:00
  Speaker 2: Like, let's just say I'm a fan.
• 55:01
Speaker 1: Let's just say I went to this school, okay?
• 55:05
Speaker 2: Whatever school it was, right?
• 55:07
Speaker 1: And the best kid leaves or the best five kids
• 55:11
Speaker 1: leave to go to a private school or another school, right? Why?
• 55:15
  Speaker 7: Why?
• 55:16
Speaker 1: What do I have to be? How mad do I
• 55:19
Speaker 1: have to be or bitter do I have to be
• 55:21
Speaker 1: to actually hire a private investigator? Or to even, you know,
• 55:27
Speaker 1: you can be mad about it, but damn, to take
• 55:29
Speaker 1: steps to retaliate? And I don't even know if that's
• 55:33
Speaker 1: what happened. I just read the story that this private
• 55:35
Speaker 1: investigator has this report.
• 55:37
Speaker 2: I'm like, who got the P.I.
• 55:43
Speaker 1: Maybe it was the college. Maybe it was the CIF,
• 55:48
Speaker 1: you know. Maybe it was the governing body who got
• 55:52
  Speaker 1: the PI. I don't know.
• 55:54
Speaker 2: It does seem a little serious, right?
• 55:57
  Speaker 4: Good morning, Romeo.
• 55:59
  Speaker 1: What up, brother?
• 56:00
Speaker 8: Okay, man. So let me tell you, it goes further
• 56:02
Speaker 8: than that. Like even back to when they were playing
• 56:05
Speaker 8: flag football, right? I would have coaches come to my job,
• 56:10
Speaker 8: sit down with me, and asked if my son could
• 56:12
Speaker 8: come play with them. You know, and I'm like, he's
• 56:15
Speaker 8: five years old. Okay, he's probably about nine around this time,
• 56:21
Speaker 8: but he had been playing since he was five.
• 56:24
Speaker 4: And, you know, he's got a little talent. Not to
• 56:27
Speaker 4: say that anybody else would agree.
• 56:30
Speaker 8: Anyway, so he happens to be one of the youngsters
• 56:33
Speaker 8: playing at Garces. The cool part about this whole thing
• 56:37
Speaker 8: is they're trying to take all the kids' stats away.
• 56:41
Speaker 1: All the kids' stats. How could they do that?
• 56:44
  Speaker 8: Well, that's what they're saying.
• 56:45
Speaker 4: They have to forfeit the games that the kids are
• 56:47
  Speaker 4: in now.
• 56:47
Speaker 1: It's all that they forfeited the games.
• 56:51
Speaker 4: You go from five.
• 56:52
Speaker 8: And one and flip the whole script.
• 56:59
Speaker 1: But from what I understand, I think what I read
• 57:01
Speaker 1: was if they win, they have one win, one and
• 57:05
Speaker 1: four because of the– But.
• 57:07
Speaker 8: They actually did win the game without the two kids.
• 57:11
  Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
• 57:12
Speaker 1: So they're one and four.
• 57:13
Speaker 4: That's a lot of folks salty.
• 57:14
Speaker 1: But if they win the next three games, three of
• 57:17
Speaker 1: them can still be eligible for the playoffs, I think.
• 57:20
Speaker 4: Well, that's what they're going to have to do.
• 57:22
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 57:22
Speaker 1: But they were going to win them all anyways.
• 57:25
Speaker 8: You know, it gets tough. You know, sometimes you're playing
• 57:27
Speaker 8: these schools from, like, out of town and You just
• 57:30
Speaker 8: don't know what's coming to the table or where you're
• 57:33
  Speaker 8: going to.
• 57:34
  Speaker 4: And like the.
• 57:34
Speaker 8: Officials, you talk about, man, them officials, there's been a
• 57:39
Speaker 8: few times I was going to go head-to-head with a
• 57:41
Speaker 8: couple of them, but I'm a little cooler than that.
• 57:44
Speaker 1: That's a whole other conversation, but okay.
• 57:47
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah. But I've seen it too, and I've seen
• 57:50
Speaker 8: officials that, you know, they deserve this because you did
• 57:53
  Speaker 8: the wrong thing.
• 57:55
Speaker 1: All right. All right, man.
• 57:56
Speaker 8: They need to have officials actually like, Like, that they
• 58:00
Speaker 8: have the same officials that travel to pay for it.
• 58:03
Speaker 1: Well, let me tell you this. I do not want
• 58:06
Speaker 1: to see you on Kern County activities getting into it
• 58:09
Speaker 1: with an official, okay?
• 58:10
Speaker 8: No, you won't see that, man.
• 58:11
Speaker 4: You won't see that. I'm past that.
• 58:13
Speaker 8: I'm so far past that.
• 58:16
Speaker 1: I'm just saying, I don't want to see you there.
• 58:18
Speaker 8: You're going to see somebody else, though. That's the thing.
• 58:21
Speaker 1: All right, man. Later.
• 58:23
  Speaker 6: Later.
• 58:24
Speaker 2: So yesterday, I probably told you guys this before, but years.
• 58:27
Speaker 1: Ago, I don't even know how many years ago it
• 58:30
Speaker 1: had to have been, maybe 15 years ago, a buddy
• 58:33
Speaker 1: of mine was getting his car repossessed.
• 58:36
Speaker 2: So he calls me. He asked to borrow some money.
• 58:39
  Speaker 2: And it was $ 800.
• 58:40
Speaker 1: And I lent him the money. Well, just out of
• 58:45
Speaker 1: the blue, I got it back yesterday. I just kind
• 58:50
Speaker 1: of chalked it up as whatever.
• 58:51
  Speaker 2: It's gone.
• 58:53
Speaker 1: But he gave it back to me, which made me
• 58:54
Speaker 1: think about getting your car repoed. You ever had a
• 58:58
Speaker 1: car repoed? This guy I know, he works for Happy Recovery.
• 59:04
Speaker 1: And he always talks about the crazy. They do a
• 59:06
Speaker 1: lot of repos, I guess. Um, he's a great guy
• 59:10
Speaker 1: by the way. And the repo guys probably got a bad,
• 59:12
Speaker 1: a bad, a bad reputation, um, a bad stigma around them,
• 59:16
Speaker 1: even though it's, you're the one that's not paying the bill.
• 59:18
Speaker 1: So it's not the repo guys fault, but this guy
• 59:20
Speaker 1: does a lot of nice stuff for a route for
• 59:22
Speaker 1: the community. Um, but, uh, dude, the stories he must have.
• 59:28
Speaker 1: about getting a car repoed. I remember I had one
• 59:30
Speaker 1: almost repoed. It was on the truck, and they get
• 59:34
Speaker 1: a knock on the door about four in the morning,
• 59:37
Speaker 1: and it's hooked up, and the guy goes, well, if
• 59:40
Speaker 1: you pay, it was only $ 158 at the time. That's
• 59:45
Speaker 1: how much I owed. I was behind. They said, well,
• 59:47
Speaker 1: if you write us a check for $ 158 or give
• 59:48
Speaker 1: us $ 158 in cash, we'll just give it back to you.
• 59:50
Speaker 2: I doubt they still do that now.
• 59:51
Speaker 1: I have no idea. But, man, I knew some guys
• 1:00:02
Speaker 1: back in the day when they owed money on a car, man,
• 1:00:05
Speaker 1: ducking and dodging, hiding it in garages, putting it behind fences,
• 1:00:08
  Speaker 1: things like that.
• 1:00:09
  Speaker 3: Woo!
• 1:00:11
Speaker 1: It was like a cat and mouse game with the
• 1:00:12
Speaker 1: repo man. Couldn't go anywhere. You had to be, had
• 1:00:15
Speaker 1: your head on a swivel, make sure the repo man
• 1:00:17
  Speaker 1: wasn't following you, right? All right, 8-4-2-5-4, 7-7. Oh, I
• 1:00:21
Speaker 1: don't even know, do they still, you ever got a repo?
• 1:00:26
Speaker 1: You ever got a car repoed? Hey, Romeo, talking about
• 1:00:29
Speaker 1: getting a car repoed. When I split up with my ex-husband,
• 1:00:34
Speaker 1: he was the one paying all the bills. He was
• 1:00:36
Speaker 1: supposed to pay my car payment as part of the agreement. Well,
• 1:00:40
Speaker 1: he stopped paying it. And one time I came out
• 1:00:42
Speaker 1: of work and my car was gone. I called the
• 1:00:45
Speaker 1: cops thinking somebody stole my car, but it ended up
• 1:00:49
Speaker 1: my ex had just stopped paying on it.
• 1:00:50
Speaker 2: So they took it back.
• 1:00:53
Speaker 1: That's dirty right there.
• 1:00:57
  Speaker 2: That's dirty.
• 1:01:01
Speaker 1: Already 4254, 727, the repo man. Hey, bro. Dodging the
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: repo guy. A few years back, I wasn't paying on
• 1:01:10
Speaker 1: a car. It took him 12 months to find me.
• 1:01:14
Speaker 1: I dodged him for a whole year. Yo, what's going on?
• 1:01:17
  Speaker 4: Hey, Rome.
• 1:01:17
  Speaker 1: 1986, I bought a new house. 1987, I got laid off.
• 1:01:26
  Speaker 3: From the railroad.
• 1:01:28
  Speaker 4: 1988, I go to Kaiser. I'm sick.
• 1:01:30
Speaker 3: Real cold, windy day. I'm at Kaiser on San Dimas
• 1:01:33
  Speaker 3: back then.
• 1:01:34
Speaker 4: Anyways, I come out of my doctor's appointment.
• 1:01:39
Speaker 3: My truck, I had a GMC, Jimmy, and.
• 1:01:42
  Speaker 1: It was gone.
• 1:01:46
Speaker 8: I call the police department.
• 1:01:48
Speaker 1: They say, sir, it got repossessed.
• 1:01:50
Speaker 8: And I'm like, oh, my God, I was so sick already,
• 1:01:53
Speaker 8: and it's cold, windy.
• 1:01:54
Speaker 3: And Man, that was a bad day, Bob.
• 1:01:57
Speaker 1: That's all I can say. They got you at the hospital.
• 1:02:00
  Speaker 4: Yep.
• 1:02:01
Speaker 8: I went to the credit union the next day and
• 1:02:04
Speaker 8: had to do some major.
• 1:02:05
Speaker 3: Major ass kissing, and I got it back.
• 1:02:10
  Speaker 4: Nice.
• 1:02:11
Speaker 1: All right, man. Well, thanks for calling.
• 1:02:13
  Speaker 4: All right.
• 1:02:14
Speaker 1: Those repo guys are kind of sneaky, man.
• 1:02:16
  Speaker 2: They'll get you.
• 1:02:17
Speaker 1: Talking about the repo man. You ever got a car repoed?
• 1:02:20
Speaker 1: Let's see here. Yo, Rome. I had a car repo
• 1:02:23
Speaker 1: only once, but I'm notorious for saving loose dollars and change.
• 1:02:28
Speaker 1: In the middle, armrest and console, when I was allowed
• 1:02:32
Speaker 1: to go to the car to take out my personal belongings,
• 1:02:35
Speaker 1: guess what was missing? All that money. I can honestly
• 1:02:39
Speaker 1: say it was over $ 100, but they claimed nothing was
• 1:02:43
  Speaker 1: in there.
• 1:02:43
  Speaker 13: Wow.
• 1:02:50
Speaker 1: So they went through the car first, huh? I'll have
• 1:02:52
Speaker 1: to ask them. I know one repo guy. He listens
• 1:02:55
Speaker 1: to the show. I'll have to ask him. Yeah, if
• 1:02:58
  Speaker 1: they do that.
• 1:02:59
Speaker 2: I don't think they're supposed to do that, are they?
• 1:03:02
Speaker 1: That's funny. Do you know, by the way, just a
• 1:03:04
Speaker 1: little side note. Do you know where that if you
• 1:03:09
Speaker 1: want to, and I'm not saying I know anybody that
• 1:03:12
Speaker 1: does this, but a lot of these guys keep their
• 1:03:16
Speaker 1: wallets in their cars. So they do when you break
• 1:03:19
Speaker 1: into a car. Or you see an open car door,
• 1:03:21
Speaker 1: that's why they check these cars so much. I guess
• 1:03:25
Speaker 1: a lot of, like 80% of you guys will keep
• 1:03:28
Speaker 1: your wallet in the center console in your truck or
• 1:03:33
Speaker 1: in your car. And a lot of people, you lose
• 1:03:36
Speaker 1: a lot of money that way. Romeo in the morning.
• 1:03:39
  Speaker 4: Every morning.
• 1:03:39
  Speaker 5: 94.1.
