- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I it said, Do you remember in your trick-or-treating career ever having the house that gave away the full-size candy bars?
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: Just once?
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: I th maybe twice, but it was one of those things we always talked about, but it never happens.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: It happened to me one time, my old neighborhood.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: I we did get this text from Lauren, and it said, Roundup and horse says they'll give out full-size candy bars.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: What is Roundup and Horse?
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: I have no clue.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: And uh they went there last year and they're gonna definitely go again this year.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Ma'am needs a full-size candy bar.
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Roundup and horse.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: What is that?
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Is that a typo or is that a I don't know.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Also, I love this.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I used to live in a cul-de-sac where over a thousand kids used to trick or treat.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I would make ribbons for the kids specific to our neighborhood to give them full-size candy bars as an extra because it was their neighborhood.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: No ribbon, you got dumdums.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, that's great! I mean, that takes a lot of effort to know.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh I know, totally.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: But I think that though that's that cul-de-sac that that that um network, you know?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Well, that's where it was.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: My old neighborhood, the cul-de-sac, uh, the one behind mine, uh in my where I used to be, well, they were the ones that did the full-size candy bar.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Now, come to find out, she was a big wig at like one of the hospitals.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: But you but you knew all of those kids, right?
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: And they knew you.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm pretty sure she would have.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like back in the day, that's how it was.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: No, they just did it all open.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: They they did literally full size the whole time.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Like I said, big wig at the hospital.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Anyway, and HOA is going viral for asking residents to not give out full-size candy bars this Halloween.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: They say that they want to make sure that no other homes feel pressure to do the same.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, we already get the full-size candy bars.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: I mean, here's the deal.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Can we just settle into the fact this world is not equal?
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you do you.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Whatever works for you works for you.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I feel the same way about candy bars uh as well as decorations, but I will say this, and it doesn't have to be candy bars, but where Zach's brother lives, it is such a cute I wouldn't call it an upper crust town if I'm if I'm being honest.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: It is or isn't?
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, oh yeah, for sure.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Do they live in oh, East?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: East Aurora.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Oh no, that's a nice area.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very nice area.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: But what's so surprising, and this is where the I'm gonna apply it to the full-size candy bars, so everyone decorates their houses and they go like all out.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: You would not think Upper Crust would be so outlandish with their decorations, but I think what it is is the positivity, the fun spreads.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: It's a chance to cut loose.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: So as far as the full-size candy bars, no, you don't have to do it.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: But if you live in an HOA, guess what?
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: You got a lot of money.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: Because guess what?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Mark and Gail live in an HOA.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Well, and they they're not hurting for money.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Right, okay, but again, world not being equal on this, maybe not everybody has the Mark and Gail finances.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: They spent most of their money to be able to live in that neighborhood in that house.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: Right, maybe they're a house poor.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: They don't right.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: They a little bit, you know, but and they don't have enough to go quite that size.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: But I I don't feel does anybody think it's a problem if two houses down the street are giving away full-size candy bars and you're giving away the fun size, does it phase you at all?
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: No.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: It doesn't phase me in the slightest bit.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: The point to it is I'm doing first of all, the point.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: There's two points to this.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: One is is uh because it it the the these HOAs just want us to be communist, all equal, not having any any different variations except for the people at the very top.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, they even their mailboxes have to be the same.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the thing about this there's two points to be made on this.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: One is that um, you know, it it doesn't matter.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: It's about the joy that you want to bring.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: You know, if you if you can do it and you want to do it, that's great.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: If your joy is in fun size, that's good too.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: The kids don't care.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, they brag that that house has the full-size candy bars, but they're still taking your fun size, you know, Milky Ways.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: And I still love it.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And I still love it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: I take it in my lunch.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: And two, I'd rather have it where everybody does if you're gonna set an HOA rule, everybody has to do candy as opposed to those jerk holes that have their lights out.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Now, I know not some people are old.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I get that.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, so you're old so you can't have fun?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Well, some people are just to the point they can't, you know, quite get out there.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: I also understand some people financially cannot afford to go out and buy 10 bags of candy.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: But, you know, for the people that just like if you're in an HOA, you have a degree of similarity.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Yes, there are people that are more well-to-do, then there are people that are a little more house poor.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: But, you know, there's gotta be a way that you can do it.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: I just I'd rather, I'd rather be like, you know, no lights out for the first hour.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And maybe you disagree with us and you can say it on the text line, but also it's always Tom and Carol who are bitching in the HOA meeting, and then you get an email.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: My parents even have for their HOA, they have a Facebook group.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: So then they get told what to do, not only in an email, and not only do they get the side eye, but also in their Facebook group.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: So you've got Tom and Carol who are sending you a message, um, Gail, you have too many weeds right now.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, God.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Or, Gail, we we want you to have your lights go off by 9 45.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: That way we don't have the the neighborhood blaring while people are trying to go to sleep.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Why did we ever think HOAs were great?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Well, okay, hold on.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: There used to be the time, if you drove up 414, you wish that the entire block the road road was an HOA because there were some trash holes.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: There's no standard.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: So that yeah, there was no standard.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: So, but I mean to go All right, I'm not debating the HOA part because that's I'm just saying that's what the meetings are like because my mom, even my mom, who is she likes things a certain way, she will come back just a bitchin'.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: You wouldn't believe what Alan across the street says about the RCP.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Well that's their entertainment now.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, that this is honestly she's retired.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: So she needs to walk in and be like, you know, Alan, I know how to shut your gas off, and you won't be able to turn it back on.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: That's a really great suggestion.
