- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody, good morning. My family has very unique pets
- 0:33and very unique businesses and things that we do.
- 0:36And my husband actually breeds reptiles and snakes, hognose
- 0:43snakes, bigger snakes getting ready to breed eastern Indigos,
- 0:48which are I think they're threatened, maybe they're even
- 0:52endangered. He had to get permission from
- 0:54the federal government to even be able to do it, and he's
- 0:59licensed now. We've been waiting for five
- 1:01years. He's been growing them up.
- 1:03He waited forever to get them. Breeding reptiles is a very,
- 1:07very involved business. And his whole world is built
- 1:12around breeding them, getting them in the right conditions,
- 1:16taking care of them at this impeccable level to to make them
- 1:20be the best that they can be. And there's a whole culture of
- 1:23people who love snakes and have them as pets.
- 1:27And it's, it's brought me into a whole different mindset about
- 1:32things. Now we have geckos as well and
- 1:35we are breeding Lucianus geckos. And often times when I am
- 1:40talking to people, I hear this pushback.
- 1:44I'll say, Oh yeah, well, we have a gecko world.
- 1:46Just a picture of myself holding a gecko.
- 1:50And I hear people go, oh, no way, no way.
- 1:53And often times when I am coaching, I'll be on the phone
- 1:57with someone and they will make a comment about how they would
- 2:01never allow this. And it always puts me back where
- 2:05I go. That's so interesting that you
- 2:07would say that because here's the thing, I don't want to put
- 2:11my rules of certain things like, OK, yes, you have to pick up
- 2:16your mess when you're around the house.
- 2:18You have to put your dishes in the dishwasher.
- 2:20Those are my rules. I mean, the guys in the house
- 2:23meant they probably wouldn't do it.
- 2:24Let's face it, we know that. But those are like common area
- 2:30rules and whatnot. I would never put my rules for
- 2:33what someone else could do for a passion that they really enjoy
- 2:37like reptiles in in that on somebody.
- 2:42I mean, I just I would not do it.
- 2:45I have had to have six snakes actually stay in the house.
- 2:49Yes, they have had to stay in the house because they couldn't
- 2:53be with the others because they were sick.
- 2:55OK, great. We had to make a space for them.
- 2:58They were not well. But I've had a chicken.
- 3:00My friends sleep in the house. I've I actually had a chicken
- 3:04stay in the house like multiple times.
- 3:06We used to have one that had rye neck and my son absolutely loved
- 3:11her, Daisy as what he named her. And Daisy was often in the house
- 3:16because she had she ran funny. She had something happened to
- 3:20her. She went to bed one night and
- 3:22she was fine. The next morning her neck seemed
- 3:24to have gotten out of whack and she couldn't even walk.
- 3:27And my son was devastated. So in the house she came and she
- 3:31stayed inside at night because she needed to have a safe place
- 3:35to stay. And our favorite queen, Miss
- 3:38Celine, she has been in the house.
- 3:40She's almost died twice because she gets herself in trouble and
- 3:44she has stayed in the house. And at neither of those points
- 3:47did my husband say no chickens in the house.
- 3:49He said, oh, let's get the little cat crate.
- 3:52Let's get her set up and get him taken care of.
- 3:55And that's the kind of place that we have.
- 3:59That's the kind of rules that we have for each other.
- 4:02My son has two gigantic fish tanks, 120 gallons each in his
- 4:06room. It sounds like he lives in an
- 4:08aquarium. He enjoys that.
- 4:11I'm not going to say no. As long as he's taking care of
- 4:14them, Why would I say no? And this comes full circle in
- 4:18the sense of when we take our rules on things and we say, this
- 4:22is not for me. I don't want this around.
- 4:26That's OK if it doesn't affect people that we love.
- 4:30Otherwise, we really have to look and say, hey, you know
- 4:33what? I really need to work on this.
- 4:35Now. I I've never been afraid of
- 4:37snakes. I've never been bothered by
- 4:40them. And we had one that lived under
- 4:42the front steps of our house for years.
- 4:44And my mother named him Stanley. And he would come out and she'd
- 4:46say good morning to him. He'd lay on the rocks in the
- 4:49sun, She'd open the door, She'd say, morning, Stanley.
- 4:52And she'd step right around him. And it was a garden snake.
- 4:54And he would just, you know, make sure there were no rodents
- 4:58around. And so I grew up not having a
- 5:01fear. And my question to everybody is
- 5:05the rules that we often push back on are based on fear.
- 5:10So we have to say, hey, listen, I have to make sure I put my
- 5:15fears in check so that they don't make other people feel bad
- 5:20for who they are. Such an important question.
- 5:23Are your fears making other people for feel feel bad for who
- 5:27they are and what they like? Now, I would never want to do
- 5:30that to the person that I spend my life with because if it's
- 5:33important to him, I want to learn to, you know, have it in
- 5:37our world. So we have figured out how to
- 5:39have it in our world. And I have to tell you, it's
- 5:42pretty fast, fascinating, and it's pretty interesting.
- 5:44So give that question some thought.
- 5:47All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:49will see you tomorrow. Bye.
