- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites the podcast. All right, thanks Jad,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Chad Milvin okay and joining me today, He's not done.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Are my beautiful baby boys, black Jack Fletcher and Paul Laduca.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Thanks for that intro, Chad, the first contact we've had
- 0:33Speaker 1: in quite a while. Um Uh, as Chad mentioned, joining
- 0:39Speaker 1: me today is the one and only in American original
- 0:42Speaker 1: Paul la Duca Pauly, how are we doing? Uh, We're
- 0:46Speaker 1: doing absolutely wonderful since I haven't want to bet since Vietnam,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but other than that, we're doing Okay. Wait, do you
- 0:53Speaker 1: mean just since the time period of Vietnam or were
- 0:55Speaker 1: you betting on the Vietnam War? If I bet on
- 0:57Speaker 1: the Vietnam more, we would have lost? Did lose? Yeah, exactly,
- 1:03Speaker 1: I would have been on the United States ship. We're
- 1:12Speaker 1: off to a hot start ever since, like no exaggeration,
- 1:20Speaker 1: ever since that Purdue game. I just I you talk
- 1:26Speaker 1: about like are people in our company worldwide web? Uh?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Lauren Joffey, they love they love car chases. I love
- 1:37Speaker 1: chasing and gambling and I'm chasing so bad right now,
- 1:40Speaker 1: it's ridiculous. I'm going and I love it. Oh, ship, Paulie,
- 1:44Speaker 1: We're off to a good start here, just started. My brother,
- 1:48Speaker 1: all right, well, why don't you tell us a little
- 1:49Speaker 1: bit about give me give me your take on the
- 1:51Speaker 1: national title game. We had Virginia and Texas Tech. Virginia
- 1:54Speaker 1: pulls it out, avenges their first round loss from last
- 1:57Speaker 1: year national champions. How do you feel about how everything
- 2:00Speaker 1: went down there? The worst National champions in the last
- 2:03Speaker 1: twenty years? What come on? Man? They got dead lucky
- 2:07Speaker 1: against against uh Perdue with a frigging rebound that went
- 2:12Speaker 1: all the way to the mascot and then it got
- 2:14Speaker 1: thrown back and a guy with white hair throws it
- 2:16Speaker 1: in and send it into overtime. Then they get a
- 2:19Speaker 1: bull craft foul whatever it is, it's been bleached and
- 2:24Speaker 1: he looks ugly. Uh. They lost against Auburn on a
- 2:29Speaker 1: joke of a foul with guy after a dribble. Well yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I mean they should have lost Auburn, And they lost Auburn. Okay,
- 2:36Speaker 1: the double dribble gone. And then it was literally one
- 2:40Speaker 1: of the worst, if not the worst officiated National title
- 2:44Speaker 1: game in my life. I've ever seen guy traveled over
- 2:49Speaker 1: three times. Um, there was a phantom foul in that
- 2:52Speaker 1: game that CBS decided, You know, what. We don't even
- 2:54Speaker 1: want to show that because Bill Raftery and Grant Hill
- 2:57Speaker 1: were hanging from the officials nuts, which I could not
- 2:59Speaker 1: under fan. Um not one call, you tell me one call?
- 3:04Speaker 1: I went Texas, texta away name it. Um. I mean
- 3:08Speaker 1: there was probably one or two down the stretch. Okay,
- 3:10Speaker 1: then how many went? How many went Virginia? It was
- 3:14Speaker 1: a joke the last two games. I mean Bruce Pearl
- 3:17Speaker 1: handled it. They both handled it, Chris Beard and Bruce Pearl.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But here's the deal. I've been in many situations and
- 3:27Speaker 1: I've never won a World Series. I've been in the
- 3:29Speaker 1: game seven. People know that we lost to the Cardinals.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I've been in tight situations. Yeah, exactly. I'm the one
- 3:36Speaker 1: that walked before that met fans. Remember that. Um Uh.
- 3:42Speaker 1: When you have tight games like what happened to you
- 3:46Speaker 1: have to get murdered at the end of the game
- 3:48Speaker 1: for it to be a foul. Like now, last case
- 3:52Speaker 1: in Virginia Auburn. You didn't have to get murdered there, No, exactly.
- 3:55Speaker 1: And how about last night, last game of the season,
- 3:59Speaker 1: and a guy in Indiana is playing Atlanta. Guy calls
- 4:03Speaker 1: a foul with one second left the game means nothing,
- 4:05Speaker 1: and the guy makes all three free throws in Indiana
- 4:08Speaker 1: wins the game. Like the officials have to make an impact.
- 4:11Speaker 1: The officials have to be known. It's just like the umpires,
- 4:14Speaker 1: Like we're having this issue with Ron Copa. How are
- 4:16Speaker 1: these guys still officiating? Oh no, but he incites riots.
- 4:21Speaker 1: He's out there to to show the fans. Hey, come
- 4:24Speaker 1: seeing me. No one gives a shit about Ron Colpa.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You know, he's a fresh Most of the umpires that
- 4:33Speaker 1: you get are frustrated athletes. I tweeted it out. He's upset.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He's not in the big leagues. That's the bottom line,
- 4:39Speaker 1: so he gets to umpire in it. So you're not
- 4:41Speaker 1: high on Virginia. I mean they were the number one
- 4:43Speaker 1: defensive team in the country, so I get that. But
- 4:45Speaker 1: you're trying to tell me they shouldn't have lost those
- 4:47Speaker 1: two games, PAULI whether they should or shouldn't have, they didn't,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but were they what? They were? Not assisted? But I'm
- 4:53Speaker 1: not gonna say they should have lost the Texas Tech.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Here's the problem is you're slanted because you had Virginia
- 4:58Speaker 1: and boasting. Yeah, I did exactly. And here's the thing.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I even had Auburn to cover. I won that game.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I didn't want it to go into overtime. I wanted
- 5:08Speaker 1: the kid to make all three free throws. I had
- 5:10Speaker 1: Under and I had Auburn. It was the best thing
- 5:12Speaker 1: that could have happened to me. But Auburn should have
- 5:14Speaker 1: won the game. But as a sportsman you were upset. Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I'm upset because it's not the right call. Auburn lost
- 5:19Speaker 1: their best player. They're on a run of a lifetime
- 5:22Speaker 1: and they got screwed. They got dead screwed. All right, Well,
- 5:28Speaker 1: that's college basketball. You mentioned Indiana Atlanta last night, the
- 5:31Speaker 1: final nine of the NBA regular season. I'm gonna ask
- 5:34Speaker 1: you a question, Pauli. It's I mean, it might wind
- 5:37Speaker 1: up being rhetorical. Can anybody beat Golden State? I just
- 5:42Speaker 1: don't think so. It's what are they up to now?
- 5:44Speaker 1: And mine's two fifty? Is it gone up more? Does
- 5:47Speaker 1: it matter what the number is? And they're the prohibitive favorite.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Let me throw something out at you and see what
- 5:52Speaker 1: you think about this. I think there's one team out
- 5:54Speaker 1: there that can beat them, and I think it's the
- 5:57Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventies six. And the reason I think that is
- 6:01Speaker 1: that sixers team reminds me a little bit of when
- 6:04Speaker 1: the Pistons played the Lakers team that had Karl Malone
- 6:07Speaker 1: and Gary Payton and they were stacked. Philadelphia has Ben Simmons,
- 6:12Speaker 1: JJ Reddick, Tobias Harris, Jimmy Butler, and Joel Embiid. And
- 6:18Speaker 1: what that means is they can play any style they want.
- 6:22Speaker 1: They can run if they want to run with Golden State.
- 6:25Speaker 1: They've got excellent three point shooting. People don't realize to
- 6:28Speaker 1: Bias Harris is a fantastic three point shooter. I think
- 6:31Speaker 1: he was the biggest edition at the trade deadline that
- 6:33Speaker 1: nobody really talks about. One of the most underrated, was
- 6:37Speaker 1: one of the one of most underrated. He and he
- 6:38Speaker 1: had his his coming out party in Detroit to tell
- 6:40Speaker 1: everybody and let's be honest here, Okay, as much as
- 6:43Speaker 1: people like Boogie Cousins, he's not going to be able
- 6:46Speaker 1: to stop Joel and bed down low. Now, the Sixers
- 6:49Speaker 1: are gonna have their hands full in the Eastern Conference,
- 6:51Speaker 1: but if they should make it to the finals, I
- 6:55Speaker 1: think that's a team that could be able to beat
- 6:57Speaker 1: Golden State. I think I would agree with you there.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And the reason why is Jimmy Butler, And I know
- 7:04Speaker 1: he's been a malcontent and in a lot of different places,
- 7:06Speaker 1: but he seems like that guy. He's the mini Duane
- 7:09Speaker 1: Wade that when the chips are on the table, he's
- 7:14Speaker 1: gonna show up. He's got that I don't care, step
- 7:17Speaker 1: on the throat attitude. He'll get on these guys. And
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think during playoff time he might make the difference
- 7:23Speaker 1: there in Philadelphia. And and like, how can you take
- 7:26Speaker 1: anybody out of the West. Why wouldn't you take somebody
- 7:28Speaker 1: out the East to at least get Yeah, And and
- 7:31Speaker 1: you know what, black Jack, you gotta take somebody out
- 7:33Speaker 1: of the East to try to beat him, because at
- 7:35Speaker 1: least you'll get to the finals. And shot Houston's shot
- 7:38Speaker 1: was last year. They pissed it away. They're not going
- 7:41Speaker 1: to beat them this year. The ro Listen, the Rockets
- 7:43Speaker 1: are not as good this year as they were last year.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So they're not winning that series. And I don't want
- 7:48Speaker 1: to hear about Denver. I like Denver. They're fun. They
- 7:51Speaker 1: can't be Golden State four out the seven? Who else
- 7:54Speaker 1: are we talking about? Portland's I mean, really, like, what
- 7:57Speaker 1: are we doing here? The Western is a joke? People
- 7:59Speaker 1: talk how great. It is, how stacked it is. You
- 8:02Speaker 1: know what, it is a foregone conclusion that the Golden
- 8:05Speaker 1: State Warriors are winning that conference. You know. The Brooklyn
- 8:07Speaker 1: and Philadelphia is starts on Saturdayturday. Yeah yeah, first game
- 8:12Speaker 1: of the day. Yeah. And I the way Orlando's playing,
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'd be a little scared. No, No, I'm I'm not
- 8:21Speaker 1: saying that. I'm not fucking Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry. They're
- 8:25Speaker 1: one of the deepest teams in the league. They're not
- 8:27Speaker 1: getting beating by the Magic doesn't. I'm not saying that's gonna.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I'm saying you could play this game to go our
- 8:33Speaker 1: series to go a little longer. And Kyle Lowry needs
- 8:35Speaker 1: to mix in a salad. Okay, the chubbiest point guard
- 8:39Speaker 1: in the game, chubbies. I mean, if you've seen Raymond Felton, huh, well,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Raymond Felton is a hunter and eight we're in. Felton
- 8:46Speaker 1: was in the barbershop scene and coming to America. John
- 8:50Speaker 1: Wall got fat too, he did. Yeah No, not John
- 8:54Speaker 1: Wall with all that dedication. He has best backpard back
- 9:00Speaker 1: court of all time. And Bradley Beal Alright, So that's
- 9:04Speaker 1: our NBA talk We've also got n HL playoffs going on. Paulie,
- 9:07Speaker 1: tell me who who do you think should wins Stanley Cup.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I have no clue but a team. All I know
- 9:13Speaker 1: is I heard the New York Islanders score from Century City, California.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean it was real. I wish I was there.
- 9:22Speaker 1: They are hot. They are very, very hot, um, and
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna root for them, although I am rooting for
- 9:29Speaker 1: them in the Golden Nights, but I'll take Tampa Bay
- 9:32Speaker 1: is rolling right now. They lost less, I understand, but
- 9:36Speaker 1: I think now you can take the value they lost
- 9:39Speaker 1: and I think now you can get me to be
- 9:40Speaker 1: plus value on them. And listen, they school still not
- 9:43Speaker 1: going to be plus money. They were. They were four
- 9:46Speaker 1: favorites coming into this, I know, so what would they
- 9:48Speaker 1: be now? Yeah, maybe that's too much in hockey, but um,
- 9:59Speaker 1: you know one, I'm gonna what are the Golden Knights
- 10:02Speaker 1: at right now? They lost Game one last night at
- 10:04Speaker 1: their asses beat? Yeah, plus one sixty two. There's the value,
- 10:08Speaker 1: buddy right there. No, the Penguins can suck it. The
- 10:13Speaker 1: Island is gonna win that series. Um, the Golden Knight's
- 10:16Speaker 1: actually that that's telling you something right there. That the
- 10:19Speaker 1: one team that lost that the Penguins, is one on nine.
- 10:22Speaker 1: That's just all public money because they're just expecting that.
- 10:26Speaker 1: They don't believe in the Islanders. They don't believe in
- 10:28Speaker 1: the power of the Colosseum. They don't they don't believe
- 10:31Speaker 1: the powers of makeshift chairs and broken stuff that's going
- 10:35Speaker 1: on there in the Colosseum, though they fixed it up.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Like is it is it like okay to like jog
- 10:41Speaker 1: and walk around the coliseum? Is that a good area?
- 10:43Speaker 1: I mean, I've never jogged around the Colosseum. Um. The
- 10:47Speaker 1: area around it is not a great area. It's Hempstead.
- 10:50Speaker 1: So um. Yeah. I used to stay at the Long
- 10:52Speaker 1: Long Island Marriott right next to it, right with what
- 10:54Speaker 1: was that champ Sports bar in there? Oh yeah, I've
- 10:57Speaker 1: been there a couple of times. I imagine you have.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Oh they got a great big salad. Yeah alright, alright,
- 11:07Speaker 1: So that's uh, we're making the rounds here in sports today,
- 11:10Speaker 1: so let's keep it going. Baseball says your bread and
- 11:13Speaker 1: butter brother. What are you noticing here in the second
- 11:16Speaker 1: week of the baseball season. What stands out to you
- 11:19Speaker 1: that I'm getting crushed? Alright? Other than your personal gambling, Paul,
- 11:23Speaker 1: what stands out to you? Runs? I've never seen anything
- 11:26Speaker 1: like it. Right, two days ago Black Check fourteen games,
- 11:33Speaker 1: twelve games went over and one of the games that
- 11:36Speaker 1: went under was the Colorado game that was set at
- 11:39Speaker 1: eleven and they scored eight runs or ten and a half,
- 11:42Speaker 1: and they scored eight runs. Yesterday calmed a little bit.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I think it was like eight and six. But the
- 11:49Speaker 1: bullpens are awful. Um. I know John Hayman, who I respect.
- 11:53Speaker 1: He tweeted out yesterday like, why isn't anybody signed Craig
- 11:56Speaker 1: kimbro Well, money's an issue. But and he was. He stated,
- 12:01Speaker 1: like seven teams bullpens, like you could go over fifteen
- 12:05Speaker 1: teams bullpens. They are just atrocious, atrocious. And here's the thing,
- 12:11Speaker 1: it is that all these agents and all these teams
- 12:16Speaker 1: are we're so worried about collusion and so well. I
- 12:19Speaker 1: told you from the beginning the ball has been juiced.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It's an absolute joke. There are balls. Dodger Stadium is
- 12:25Speaker 1: a launching pad. I watched Jake the ground. He gave
- 12:30Speaker 1: up four home runs the dead center field at City Field. Shocking. Okay,
- 12:36Speaker 1: now let me get to the Minnesota Twins. Okay, this
- 12:39Speaker 1: is let me put things into perspective Byron Buxton. Dead
- 12:43Speaker 1: center field at City Field and SHA Stadium is about
- 12:45Speaker 1: the same. It's a graveyard that that was Carlos Delgatto Land,
- 12:51Speaker 1: Sean Greenland, not Kiki Hernandez. And these kind of guys Lands. Okay,
- 12:56Speaker 1: these there, there's guys heating balls five feet while guys
- 13:00Speaker 1: that were on rocket fuel back in the day weren't
- 13:02Speaker 1: even hitting the ball back far so, and they're scoring
- 13:08Speaker 1: dead center in Shay or City in City one time,
- 13:12Speaker 1: and it was the best ball I ever hit in
- 13:13Speaker 1: my life. Who'd you hit it off of? Uh? Come on,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I'm digging in its um Bobby Jones, who threw the
- 13:26Speaker 1: gem in the World Series, which a lot of people
- 13:28Speaker 1: forget about at about seventy eight miles. Uh. I think
- 13:33Speaker 1: was a trade. And I don't know who he came
- 13:35Speaker 1: up with, but I want to say Bobby Jones. He
- 13:38Speaker 1: was with the Rockies, the African American Bobby Jones, but
- 13:41Speaker 1: I want to say originally signed with all Right, let
- 13:45Speaker 1: the Mets, all right, so you hit one out there,
- 13:46Speaker 1: all right, let's move on here. Um, I'm gonna give
- 13:50Speaker 1: you three teams that have started the year out very poorly,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and I want you to tell me which one you
- 13:57Speaker 1: have the most concerns about. Right now we have least
- 14:01Speaker 1: hold on. I haven't given you the teams yet. These
- 14:05Speaker 1: are all three win teams, the Colorado Rockies at three
- 14:09Speaker 1: and nine, the Chicago Cubs at three and eight, and
- 14:12Speaker 1: the Boston Red Sox at three and nine. Which one
- 14:15Speaker 1: should I be most concerned about? H Well, I would
- 14:21Speaker 1: say probably the Cubs, um, because I think their toast anyway, Um,
- 14:26Speaker 1: when you look at well, listen, John Lester, how much
- 14:29Speaker 1: more can you get out of John Lester? I mean,
- 14:33Speaker 1: Jose Contenta has not thrown well. And the problem that
- 14:38Speaker 1: I have with all this usually in April it's cold.
- 14:41Speaker 1: It has not been a cold ab That's why you're
- 14:43Speaker 1: seeing a lot of runs. And the Cubs are still
- 14:46Speaker 1: struggling hitting wise, but they're pitching is just giving up
- 14:50Speaker 1: way too many runs their bullpens and mass and then
- 14:53Speaker 1: the Red Sox. Listen, Chris sale is I just Paul
- 14:59Speaker 1: I mentioned to ask you this in all seriousness. He
- 15:02Speaker 1: looks kind of shot right now, and like people have
- 15:06Speaker 1: compared it to previous springs in the past, it's not
- 15:10Speaker 1: the same. I mean, he's got nothing on this fastball.
- 15:14Speaker 1: How in the hell do the Red Sox give him
- 15:17Speaker 1: a five year extension when he's throwing nothing right now? Like,
- 15:24Speaker 1: what what is going on? I think he here's here's
- 15:28Speaker 1: what's going on. He went under the scope. Okay, for
- 15:31Speaker 1: you to sign a contract that big, you've got to
- 15:32Speaker 1: go through a physical. So he obviously went through the
- 15:34Speaker 1: m R. I there's no structural damage in his elbow,
- 15:38Speaker 1: or there's no structural damage maybe uh in his or
- 15:42Speaker 1: ear in his shoulder, or they wouldn't have give him
- 15:43Speaker 1: the money. The problem is he's now dealing with dead arm.
- 15:47Speaker 1: And then I see people, uh like Carabius who are
- 15:51Speaker 1: Red Sox saying, oh, Chris still hit you guys, shut
- 15:55Speaker 1: the funk up. Uh, let me give you a little secret, okay.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Kevin Brown, towards the end of his career, when I
- 16:01Speaker 1: was catching him, he looked up at the miles per
- 16:04Speaker 1: hour constantly because he would want to know how hard
- 16:07Speaker 1: he was throwing, how how this ball was sinking this
- 16:10Speaker 1: and that. And it used to bug the hell out
- 16:12Speaker 1: of me because when he would hit, he knew that
- 16:15Speaker 1: he just didn't have that extra ump anymore when he
- 16:17Speaker 1: was starting to get hit. So I went up to
- 16:20Speaker 1: the freaking guy that does the miles per hour thing
- 16:22Speaker 1: and said, listen, every time he throws it fastball, you
- 16:24Speaker 1: please put ninety six or ninety seven up there so
- 16:26Speaker 1: I don't have to. So let's keep his confidence up
- 16:29Speaker 1: and he thinks he's throwing that hard because if he
- 16:33Speaker 1: keeps wait a second, wait, that's the true story. You
- 16:35Speaker 1: actually manipulated the gun reading at the ballpark, my picture
- 16:43Speaker 1: would stop. Look at this because Kevin Brown was such
- 16:45Speaker 1: a delicate mental figure that you felt the need to
- 16:49Speaker 1: have that because I wanted I wanted the confidence in
- 16:52Speaker 1: his head that like, okay, and they did Yes, they
- 16:55Speaker 1: did it. Jeez. That's what you sometimes listen the mental
- 16:59Speaker 1: psyche of a picture, like it doesn't matter if you
- 17:01Speaker 1: throw okay. I'm not gonna say that it matters if
- 17:04Speaker 1: you throw ninety nine, but like you can still get
- 17:07Speaker 1: guys out. He had so much movement at sometimes when
- 17:12Speaker 1: the ball is throwing a little bit harder at nine,
- 17:14Speaker 1: the movement gets taken out of it. So when he
- 17:16Speaker 1: threw two, I actually sometimes liked him a little bit
- 17:19Speaker 1: better because his split finger and his sinker moved a
- 17:22Speaker 1: little bit more, but he had such this mental block
- 17:25Speaker 1: that he had to throw ninety seven and he would
- 17:28Speaker 1: look up after every pitch and then so then I
- 17:31Speaker 1: would find that what was the tick in his mind?
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm like, what do you want to hit? He goes
- 17:35Speaker 1: my fastball? If my fastball is at ninety six, my
- 17:38Speaker 1: split finger is like around eighty five, eighty four, and
- 17:42Speaker 1: my sliders around eighty nine, I'm great. I literally wrote
- 17:45Speaker 1: all those down and told the guy this is what
- 17:47Speaker 1: you're gonna put every time he throws it. I just
- 17:50Speaker 1: I can't believe that this actually happened. Like well, I mean, listen,
- 17:54Speaker 1: it's kind of brilliant on your part. I mean to
- 17:57Speaker 1: just get inside his head and make him confidente. But
- 18:01Speaker 1: like I just I can't really believe any of it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I don't believe it. But that that's you. Sometimes you
- 18:07Speaker 1: have to do things like that to get your picture
- 18:10Speaker 1: to respond, because there's there's times you walk out in
- 18:16Speaker 1: the mount and you'll look at a picture and he'll
- 18:18Speaker 1: look right through you. Ever get that look where somebody
- 18:20Speaker 1: looks at you and they're not really looking at you,
- 18:22Speaker 1: They're just they're on an island. And before they're lost
- 18:28Speaker 1: on an island. Maybe present company. Yeah, in your in
- 18:32Speaker 1: your your part. Psychiatrists. So I remember, like I went
- 18:38Speaker 1: to the mountain one day and he was like, God,
- 18:39Speaker 1: my fast ball is dead. Does it seem like? I said.
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm like, kybe, it's fine, it is fine.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Stop looking at the radar. And then I just like
- 18:47Speaker 1: it started bugging me so much that him paying attention
- 18:51Speaker 1: to that was not paying attention to the next pitch. Um.
- 18:54Speaker 1: So I just decided to do that. And I remember
- 18:57Speaker 1: I told I told Tracy, I told our manager. I'm like, listen,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I'm telling the gun guy. So if it looks like
- 19:03Speaker 1: he's hitting nineties seven, he's not. But a right, So
- 19:06Speaker 1: let me ask you a question. In that vein you're
- 19:07Speaker 1: talking about playing psychiatrists a little bit, Chris Davis, What
- 19:12Speaker 1: in the hell does that guy have to do to
- 19:15Speaker 1: hit a baseball? Go down to the leagues? You think? So,
- 19:19Speaker 1: let me tell you something. If the guy was not
- 19:20Speaker 1: making what's his contract, I was making a ton of money,
- 19:23Speaker 1: he'd be in the minor leagues. If what do you
- 19:26Speaker 1: think that will really help him? Like, what how do
- 19:28Speaker 1: you start with? But Paul, how do you but but
- 19:31Speaker 1: at some point my daughter started this season over fifty
- 19:33Speaker 1: I could gotta get hit left hand, Paul. At some
- 19:35Speaker 1: point Chris Dave was able to hit a baseball at
- 19:39Speaker 1: a reasonably acceptable clip. And now he can't make contact.
- 19:44Speaker 1: What is what's wrong with him? He stinks he didn't
- 19:52Speaker 1: deserve Then his his bat stays in the zone for
- 19:58Speaker 1: maybe a second. People talk about flat bat or whatever.
- 20:02Speaker 1: He swings straight up, so basically his his swing path
- 20:09Speaker 1: is in the zone for maybe less than half a second,
- 20:11Speaker 1: so it needs to click. I'd have to show it
- 20:14Speaker 1: to you on video. But his swings offul. I understand
- 20:17Speaker 1: you going ruts this in that UM, but a rut
- 20:21Speaker 1: of oh for fifty five and you got a poor
- 20:24Speaker 1: kid in triple A. I don't care about the money.
- 20:28Speaker 1: That's what performance is called. He should not be in.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I think him going down to the minor leagues will
- 20:33Speaker 1: help him at all. Yes, he needs confidence. He needs
- 20:36Speaker 1: to start hitting some home runs. People have done it,
- 20:38Speaker 1: people have been sent back down in the minor leagues.
- 20:41Speaker 1: He's not gonna go there forever go there for two
- 20:43Speaker 1: three weeks. But if he keeps streaking out in the
- 20:45Speaker 1: minor leagues, what the fund is he gonna do for
- 20:47Speaker 1: you in the big leagues? Yeah, it's it's it's a
- 20:50Speaker 1: historically bad start to a season. Send him back to
- 20:53Speaker 1: Abel at this point, I mean, how do you do?
- 21:01Speaker 1: I mean, Paul, I mean, is there tell everybody how
- 21:05Speaker 1: hard that is? Like fifty one at bats without a hit.
- 21:09Speaker 1: You don't just run into one by accident. It's almost
- 21:13Speaker 1: as bad as Jason Kendall one year had six hundred
- 21:16Speaker 1: at bats and didn't hit a home run. You would
- 21:20Speaker 1: think you'd run into one ball, right, I mean, and
- 21:25Speaker 1: it's like loop, I mean an infield single. Like, okay,
- 21:28Speaker 1: so he's he's over fifty one. How many times has
- 21:31Speaker 1: he struck out? Hold on? Matt Ford's researching it right, now,
- 21:43Speaker 1: come on up while he looks it up. Just gonna
- 21:50Speaker 1: kill the air time. Here's okay, Maddie's researching lowly. Chris
- 21:57Speaker 1: Davis was the kid fifteen strikeouts this season? So how
- 22:07Speaker 1: many baths he had this season? And I mean, are
- 22:12Speaker 1: you fucking for a fucking reel? I struck out thirty
- 22:17Speaker 1: times in two thousand one, which it doesn't matter. fIF
- 22:23Speaker 1: you are a major league player making that much money
- 22:28Speaker 1: and you're striking out more than half the time. How
- 22:33Speaker 1: are you in the major leagues? And there's probably some
- 22:36Speaker 1: poor kid sitting in Triple A going, uh, can I
- 22:43Speaker 1: get traded hundred seventy million? Somebody paid a hundred and
- 22:52Speaker 1: sixty million dollars. Holy shit. So he struck out seven
- 23:03Speaker 1: times over fifty one at bath So there you go.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So the other twenty four times he's put it in play,
- 23:09Speaker 1: that's insane. So for him not to get lucky once
- 23:14Speaker 1: I get it. But for those twenty four times, for
- 23:19Speaker 1: him to get to basically two hundred, he's got to
- 23:24Speaker 1: get four hits. If you're the Orioles, do you like
- 23:27Speaker 1: all for this guy like fifty million dollars just to
- 23:29Speaker 1: fake his own death, like just cash? No no, no, no,
- 23:36Speaker 1: no no no, you like sever his achilles so that
- 23:38Speaker 1: insurance can pay for it. So does he need to
- 23:44Speaker 1: be like careful in the clubhouse? I would be very
- 23:48Speaker 1: careful because like, um, I'm sure the Mets were praying
- 23:52Speaker 1: that David Wright didn't come back so he didn't have
- 23:54Speaker 1: to pay that they he came back for that one game,
- 23:56Speaker 1: they probably had to pay him. But I I wish
- 24:00Speaker 1: this upon nobody. But there you cannot tell me there's
- 24:04Speaker 1: somebody in that organization that wishes that he does not
- 24:06Speaker 1: get hurt, so insurance can pay for that contract because
- 24:10Speaker 1: I he might. I mean, like, I don't know if
- 24:13Speaker 1: they're gonna keep running him out there. This might be
- 24:16Speaker 1: worse than the Bobby even the contract. This is atrocious.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I just but it's baseball like, and that's what baseball is.
- 24:25Speaker 1: They don't care about the strikeout anymore. They've scored record
- 24:28Speaker 1: runs and you know what, the batting averages in the
- 24:32Speaker 1: league still to forty PAULI all right, we're gonna move
- 24:35Speaker 1: on from baseball before we get to our favorite time
- 24:37Speaker 1: of the week. I've got one quick question for you,
- 24:40Speaker 1: because we're covering all sports right here. Saturday, Arkansas Derby
- 24:45Speaker 1: down at Oaklawn. Who you got? Omaha Beach is gonna
- 24:50Speaker 1: be tough in there. Um, I know, I'm probably with
- 24:52Speaker 1: the other Bafford, but I probably can suck it. I'm on,
- 24:55Speaker 1: Omaha Beach. I'm with you two. I like the way
- 24:58Speaker 1: he held off game Winner, and I thought Game Winner
- 25:01Speaker 1: might have hung a little bit in that race. I'm
- 25:03Speaker 1: not betting against Mike Smith in these races, no, but
- 25:05Speaker 1: you know what Game Winner was like five wide in
- 25:09Speaker 1: the santait To Derby, and then Mike Smith wrote grocious,
- 25:12Speaker 1: how that horse got a terrible Let me just say
- 25:15Speaker 1: this about Game Winner. Those of you are not interested
- 25:17Speaker 1: in horse racing, get interested because you can make more
- 25:20Speaker 1: money there than anywhere else. Um, game Winner. I've been
- 25:24Speaker 1: more impressed with him and his two losses than in
- 25:26Speaker 1: the Winds. Yeah, and here's the pickle. Mike Smith needs
- 25:31Speaker 1: to be on that horse. Yes, yes, yes, if Mike
- 25:36Speaker 1: Smith was on that horse, But let me ask you this.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But then then Mike Smith beats him with roses because
- 25:42Speaker 1: Game Winner has been beaten twice by Omaha Beach and
- 25:45Speaker 1: Rhads are both written by Mike Smith. But if Omaha
- 25:49Speaker 1: Beach wins the Arkansas Derby, is Mike Smith really not
- 25:52Speaker 1: taking that mountain? The Kentucky Derby given given maybe a
- 25:54Speaker 1: little bit of a middle finger to Bob Baffort, like,
- 25:56Speaker 1: hey Winner, fuck you, I don't think he can. Here's
- 26:01Speaker 1: the deal. Omaha Beach is trained by legendary trainer Richard Mandela.
- 26:05Speaker 1: And then Badfort has Roadster, and he has Game Winner,
- 26:10Speaker 1: and Mike has ridden Arrowgate. You know, um, justify um
- 26:18Speaker 1: you name it, like he's ridden everything there is to
- 26:21Speaker 1: win for Bob. He doesn't have tied that much ties now.
- 26:26Speaker 1: He's ridden some great horses for Mandela in the past,
- 26:29Speaker 1: but not as many for Bob. So I would think
- 26:32Speaker 1: the ties would go to Bob and and Richard would
- 26:35Speaker 1: probably understand that. Um. But also, if Omaha Beach blows
- 26:40Speaker 1: out the Arkansas Derby, Mike's gonna have a tough decision
- 26:43Speaker 1: because I know Roadster is the real Let me tell
- 26:46Speaker 1: some there's three horses that can, don't There's three horses
- 26:49Speaker 1: that can win the Kentucky right now. It's gonna be
- 26:53Speaker 1: oh mom, it's somebody tweeted out the other day there's
- 26:57Speaker 1: fourteen horses in the Bluegrass or whatever, and there's ten
- 27:01Speaker 1: horses in the wood Memorial the other way around, and
- 27:03Speaker 1: there's only six in the in the whatever, in the
- 27:06Speaker 1: Santa Ya Derby. I'll take to two in the Sanata
- 27:08Speaker 1: Derby over those twenty four in Omaha Beach. Those three horses,
- 27:13Speaker 1: the horses first, Rhodes, there's not winning Kentucky Derby. Second,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you know Legendary, you know him, Yeah, he says, Omaha Beach.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I ran into mckinlan. No big deal, whatever, he says,
- 27:27Speaker 1: Omaha Beach is the finest horse he's ever laid his
- 27:30Speaker 1: eyes on. Alan Jerkins. Yeah, wow, Alan at Lan said,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Omaha Beach is the finest horse he's ever laid his
- 27:39Speaker 1: eyes on. And people don't know Alan Jerkins is as
- 27:42Speaker 1: a legend. So I think so. The reason why I
- 27:45Speaker 1: like Oman Beach because he he was never letting game
- 27:52Speaker 1: winner by where Game Winner fought the whole way. I
- 27:56Speaker 1: thought Game Winner might be a little bit of a hanger.
- 27:58Speaker 1: He's not. Omaha Beach was not letting him buy and
- 28:01Speaker 1: then he ran. He ran his balls off in Santito
- 28:04Speaker 1: Derby just got a bad right, So I think om
- 28:06Speaker 1: On Beach is the real deal. On with you, all right?
- 28:08Speaker 1: So we're all on Omaha Beach in the Arkansas Derby
- 28:10Speaker 1: on Saturday at Oaklawn. Now it's time for everyone's favorite
- 28:13Speaker 1: part of their week, storytime with Paul Laduka. We've got
- 28:17Speaker 1: two for you today, PAULI uh, let's start with you
- 28:23Speaker 1: telling us about a little scam you used to pull
- 28:26Speaker 1: on your minor league teammates to make some bread. Yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 1: this is a story my father reminded me of two
- 28:33Speaker 1: nights ago, which is pretty crazy. We were talking actually
- 28:36Speaker 1: about the Arkansas Derby. So, um, when I was in
- 28:39Speaker 1: the minor leagues in Bakersfield. Uh, you know, you're making
- 28:43Speaker 1: eight fifty dollars a month when you sign. You got
- 28:45Speaker 1: four guys in an apartment, so you had to try
- 28:47Speaker 1: to make some extra money. And I had pulled this
- 28:49Speaker 1: trick a couple of times in college and it was
- 28:52Speaker 1: called the swammy, sort of like you know Berman was
- 28:55Speaker 1: on ESPN. So what we would do is is the
- 28:59Speaker 1: trick was pretty simple. So we're playing I want to
- 29:02Speaker 1: say it was the High Desert at the time, they're
- 29:04Speaker 1: the High Desert Mavericks. I was in the Cow League.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Um um. One of the other guys on that team
- 29:09Speaker 1: I had played with in college. So they all came
- 29:12Speaker 1: over to my place to come, you know, a party.
- 29:15Speaker 1: So there's like about eight of us in there, and
- 29:18Speaker 1: I always would wait until we all got really really salty. Well,
- 29:21Speaker 1: there was a Canadian pitcher on that team that was
- 29:23Speaker 1: a bonus baby, and he was doing all these card
- 29:27Speaker 1: tricks and he was popping off and we were playing
- 29:29Speaker 1: cards for money, this and that, and he you know,
- 29:33Speaker 1: he started to get a little bit you know, salty.
- 29:37Speaker 1: After he had a couple of beers talking a lot
- 29:39Speaker 1: of crap. And he was a bonus baby um from
- 29:41Speaker 1: from Vancouver. So I said to him, I go, hey,
- 29:45Speaker 1: I bet you you know three hundred bucks. I can
- 29:47Speaker 1: get a guy you pick out any card out of
- 29:50Speaker 1: that deck. I'll get a guy on the phone that
- 29:53Speaker 1: can guess the card without me saying anything for three
- 29:56Speaker 1: hundred bucks. And he goes, you're full of ship and
- 30:00Speaker 1: stop stop bamboozling me. And I'm like, I'm not full
- 30:03Speaker 1: of ship, bro, do you want to do this or not?
- 30:06Speaker 1: You've been talking ship all night and um, we're playing
- 30:09Speaker 1: poker basically for pennies. We're not making nothing. You've got
- 30:11Speaker 1: three dollars in your pocket and he goes, do you
- 30:13Speaker 1: have three in your pocket? I said no. I said,
- 30:18Speaker 1: I'll go to the A t M right now, ran toto,
- 30:21Speaker 1: the A T M got the three and I said,
- 30:24Speaker 1: now do we want this on? He goes, yeah, So
- 30:29Speaker 1: who what happened was the guy picked the card? It
- 30:31Speaker 1: was in nine o'clubs. So now me and my father
- 30:37Speaker 1: is the swammy. So we we had this. Yes, it's
- 30:42Speaker 1: a family hustle. And what we would do is I
- 30:47Speaker 1: would call my father, didn't matter what time. So now
- 30:51Speaker 1: it's like three in the morning and I call. I'm
- 30:57Speaker 1: like hello, I'm remember calling and going swammy. And as
- 31:03Speaker 1: soon as I said swammy, my dad's half asleep. He's
- 31:06Speaker 1: like spade. He goes Ace two, three, four all the
- 31:15Speaker 1: way until he gets to nine, and I'm like, swammy,
- 31:18Speaker 1: is that you? And he goes spades, hearts diamonds clubs.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I'm like, swammy. There's a guy here that thinks that
- 31:26Speaker 1: you can't guess his card. So now my father has
- 31:29Speaker 1: given me the clock code. I have not said nothing,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and he knows it's the nine O clubs. Now here's
- 31:34Speaker 1: the key. This is I'm in the coll league. There's
- 31:39Speaker 1: no cell phones back then, and you're on a landline.
- 31:44Speaker 1: So for this to work, you you gotta you gotta
- 31:47Speaker 1: hit another number before they hit re dial, because then
- 31:50Speaker 1: they're gonna find out who Swammy is. So now I
- 31:55Speaker 1: give the phone to the guy and my guy has
- 31:58Speaker 1: it on speaker phone now and my dad's telling him, hey,
- 32:01Speaker 1: son him a bit. I can't see the card. Hold
- 32:04Speaker 1: the card up to the phone to a landline phone,
- 32:07Speaker 1: to a landline phone, and he goes, it's the nine
- 32:10Speaker 1: of clubs. Pay the guy and hung up the phone.
- 32:13Speaker 1: So I grabbed the phone real quick dialed four one
- 32:16Speaker 1: one and he you know what I mean, So they
- 32:21Speaker 1: could they couldn't readal so that was part of the trick.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Well this one time I couldn't do it, and he
- 32:28Speaker 1: hit redial and he got the he got our family
- 32:33Speaker 1: answering machine. So now he knows. Oh shit, I got
- 32:38Speaker 1: just bamboozled by him and his dad. Who's just swammy
- 32:41Speaker 1: that read the card through the phone, And I just
- 32:44Speaker 1: took the three hundars and we just I just booked.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I booked on the lane. I was jumping fences. I
- 32:50Speaker 1: was in back yards. I was coming back and forth.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Why don't you just give him the three d back
- 32:56Speaker 1: because he lost the bet? The guy gets the card, Yeah,
- 32:59Speaker 1: but you fucking rig did it didn't matter. He hit
- 33:02Speaker 1: read dial like he's like, oh, what the swami is
- 33:05Speaker 1: your father? I'm like, I don't know. That was the
- 33:07Speaker 1: last thing I dialed yesterday morning when we came back
- 33:10Speaker 1: this and that I had to come back. You were
- 33:12Speaker 1: just on the phone exactly. But I worked it all right.
- 33:18Speaker 1: So that's that story number one. Story number two involves
- 33:22Speaker 1: Kevin Brown and David Ross. If I'm not mistaken during
- 33:26Speaker 1: your time with the Dodgers. Right, yeah, this is uh David.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I actually d M David and on Twitter and then
- 33:33Speaker 1: I texted him and he's gonna come on the program
- 33:36Speaker 1: either next week or the week after because I was
- 33:38Speaker 1: asking about this story to make sure it was him,
- 33:40Speaker 1: and he goes, yeah, he remembers it vividly, and uh,
- 33:45Speaker 1: we were driving, Um, we had a road trip. I
- 33:50Speaker 1: was like Toronto Detroit. We were driving from Toronto, UM
- 33:55Speaker 1: to Detroit, and it was a family trip. So the
- 33:59Speaker 1: wives are on the first bus and all the players
- 34:01Speaker 1: were on the second bus. Well, the first bus with
- 34:05Speaker 1: all the wives, it was very calm. The second bus
- 34:08Speaker 1: that the guys that didn't bring their was just getting
- 34:10Speaker 1: pretty rowdy. They were getting drunk, and so Ken Brown
- 34:15Speaker 1: calls the traveling secretary at the time, who was Sean
- 34:19Speaker 1: Roschau and goes, hey, all of us are hungry on
- 34:22Speaker 1: this back bus. How much longer we got and he's like,
- 34:24Speaker 1: we got an hour and a half. He's like, all right,
- 34:27Speaker 1: we're stopping. Or there was a burger king in two miles. Um,
- 34:30Speaker 1: We're gonna stop and I'm gonna buy everybody food. And
- 34:35Speaker 1: Sean goes it's three in the morning and Kevin Kevin goes,
- 34:39Speaker 1: I don't care, stop the buses. So Kevin made the
- 34:43Speaker 1: busses stop. Now the rookies at the time were David Ross,
- 34:48Speaker 1: So he said, David Ross in to a whopper. I
- 34:52Speaker 1: don't even know where we were into a burking between
- 34:57Speaker 1: Toronto and Detroit. Don't even know where we're at. Do
- 35:00Speaker 1: you know, no to order over two whoppers? Okay? David
- 35:08Speaker 1: Ross comes walking back out and says, um, they're heating
- 35:13Speaker 1: up the grill, but it's gonna take them over an
- 35:16Speaker 1: hour to an hour and a half to make two whoppers.
- 35:18Speaker 1: There's only two people there. There's no way they can
- 35:21Speaker 1: get this done. So Kevin Brown's drunk and he's like,
- 35:25Speaker 1: we're staying reading well now, the traveling secretary is like, no,
- 35:29Speaker 1: this is not happening. We are getting out of here.
- 35:32Speaker 1: There's room service when we get back to we get
- 35:35Speaker 1: to the hotel. So the family bus takes off the
- 35:40Speaker 1: player bus. There's guys outside of the player bus as
- 35:44Speaker 1: they're supposed to be following each other. There's no such
- 35:47Speaker 1: thing as like you know, maps on phones at this time,
- 35:50Speaker 1: like you gotta like so now the players jump back
- 35:53Speaker 1: on the bus and start following the family bus. And
- 35:57Speaker 1: Kevin is pissed. He's calling, why didn't we why didn't
- 35:59Speaker 1: we eat? And you could I could hear roschau are
- 36:03Speaker 1: traveling secretary, going bro, we got to get to the
- 36:07Speaker 1: hotel to get to sleep, right, So now we get out,
- 36:14Speaker 1: we get to the hotel. We're in Detroit now at
- 36:16Speaker 1: five in the morning or four in the morning, I
- 36:19Speaker 1: want to say. And Kevin Brown comes off the back bus. Now,
- 36:26Speaker 1: when you get to a major league hotel, you're traveling
- 36:29Speaker 1: secretary has all the keys, goes. So what he does
- 36:33Speaker 1: is he goes straight to the hotel. He has his
- 36:36Speaker 1: whole package with all the keys, and he lays them
- 36:38Speaker 1: all out. Out of the corner of my eye, I
- 36:41Speaker 1: see Kevin and he's raging, and he's got a butt
- 36:43Speaker 1: light in one hand and a corps light in the other,
- 36:46Speaker 1: and the corps light is open and full, and Roscha
- 36:49Speaker 1: just starts running towards the hotel. Kevin Brown through a
- 36:54Speaker 1: nur fastball with that corps light and drilled him right
- 36:58Speaker 1: in the straight in the back. What we kept the
- 37:01Speaker 1: traveling secretary in the back where the courts light I
- 37:05Speaker 1: mean smoked him. I mean it's like he got shot,
- 37:08Speaker 1: like literally from a tower down, goes phrase Jesus right.
- 37:14Speaker 1: So he gets up. We're all dying laughing because we
- 37:18Speaker 1: know what it's about. Because he didn't stop it, Burger can.
- 37:20Speaker 1: He didn't wait. So we all get our keys and
- 37:26Speaker 1: I'm sitting there just waiting because I gotta see how
- 37:29Speaker 1: this plays out. And um uh we always with Kevin
- 37:35Speaker 1: would always get the sweet. So he was the last person.
- 37:37Speaker 1: So everybody goes up to the room and now room service.
- 37:40Speaker 1: He goes, hey, his room service open, and the lady
- 37:43Speaker 1: goes no. And now he's even more human. He goes,
- 37:46Speaker 1: what time does it open? And the lady goes, it
- 37:50Speaker 1: opens at six o'clock? And it was I think at
- 37:53Speaker 1: four or fifteen at this time. Um, and he goes,
- 37:58Speaker 1: I'd like to order some breakfast from myself off because
- 38:01Speaker 1: obviously he was starving. Then he ordered breakfast at six,
- 38:06Speaker 1: six fifteen, six thirty seven, seven fifteen, seven thirty eight,
- 38:11Speaker 1: eight fifteen thirty all the way up to nine o'clock,
- 38:14Speaker 1: every fifteen minutes on the dial to the traveling Secretary's
- 38:18Speaker 1: room to wake him up. Wow, he really did not
- 38:24Speaker 1: like that guy, did he? Know he I mean it
- 38:27Speaker 1: was over I mean like it didn't matter what he
- 38:30Speaker 1: was making, but he probably it was like over three
- 38:33Speaker 1: in breakfast. He sent to his room and like they
- 38:37Speaker 1: and he tipped. The lady at the front desk was
- 38:40Speaker 1: like what, And he goes, where is the kitchen? People?
- 38:45Speaker 1: Are they here? She goes, No, He goes, He pulled
- 38:49Speaker 1: two hundred dollars out of the pocket and goes, give
- 38:51Speaker 1: this to the lady and make sure she keeps delivering him,
- 38:55Speaker 1: because he was afraid they were just gonna stop delivering them.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And like, if you went on his floor, there was
- 39:00Speaker 1: literally ten trades of breakfast sitting outside of his holy ship.
- 39:05Speaker 1: How did he respond to that? The next day? You
- 39:08Speaker 1: don't respond to Kevin Brown. You just take it. We'll
- 39:12Speaker 1: let you just take it from Kevin Brown. Yeah, he
- 39:14Speaker 1: was the man. I didn't give a ship as long
- 39:16Speaker 1: as he wanted twenty games. You can throw beers at anybody.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Do you ever throw a beer? You now? But he
- 39:23Speaker 1: told me one time, I'll never forget. He kept shaking
- 39:27Speaker 1: me off and shaking me off and shaking me off.
- 39:29Speaker 1: And then I went to the mountain one time. It
- 39:31Speaker 1: was like I was a rookie and I I said, Uh,
- 39:36Speaker 1: what do you want to throw here? And he told me,
- 39:38Speaker 1: why don't you just go back down there and throw
- 39:39Speaker 1: it down the fingers and all the side. I'm like, O,
- 39:42Speaker 1: came Mr Brown, Wow, so did you guys get a longer?
- 39:47Speaker 1: But but then after that, yeah, then like he was
- 39:52Speaker 1: he he got sort of labeled as such a dick.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Kevin Brown is a reputation of being kind of an asshole,
- 39:59Speaker 1: and he's sounds kind of like an asshole from this story,
- 40:03Speaker 1: but like he was such a good asshole. Like I
- 40:07Speaker 1: can't explain it, Paul, What makes someone a good asshole?
- 40:10Speaker 1: A guy that puts on his spikes, that's making a
- 40:13Speaker 1: what he was making, puts on his spikes every day
- 40:17Speaker 1: at six thirty, even when he's not pitching. So he
- 40:20Speaker 1: showed up for work, congratulations, stowed up for stretching every day.
- 40:25Speaker 1: The two most professional guys I ever played with were
- 40:28Speaker 1: him and and Tom Glavin, two rock stars. Tom Glavin
- 40:33Speaker 1: can suck it, Okay, I get it, it's the last
- 40:36Speaker 1: you met. Fans with the last game forget it. But
- 40:40Speaker 1: two guys that were dominant showed up for stretching. It
- 40:45Speaker 1: was always out there for the first pitch. Kevin would
- 40:47Speaker 1: have his his um cleats on and he would try
- 40:51Speaker 1: to figure out if he could see if the pitchers
- 40:53Speaker 1: were pitching tipping their pitches. And you know what Elseide
- 40:56Speaker 1: loved about him. He was the worst hitter I ever saw,
- 41:00Speaker 1: and he would actually go down to the cage and
- 41:02Speaker 1: work on his hitting day after day and became actually
- 41:05Speaker 1: a pretty good hitter. He was a an intense teammate.
- 41:10Speaker 1: When he pitched, you did not talk to him, but
- 41:13Speaker 1: he was a teammate you wanted because you want, you
- 41:15Speaker 1: know what I mean. It's kind of guy you like
- 41:17Speaker 1: on your team you hate if he's on another team.
- 41:20Speaker 1: That's nail on head right there. All right. That feels
- 41:23Speaker 1: like a good place to wrap this up. Thank you
