Summer crabbing’s back—and it’s already got twists: some areas open July 2nd through Sept 7th, others later in July or even mid-August. But beware—Hood Canal’s shellfish zones are closed due to deadly paralytic shellfish poison (cooking won’t help), affecting clams, oysters, and mussels, not crab or shrimp. Crabbers, keep an eye out for green tags on Dungeness crabs; report them with location, time, and condition to the number on the tag—WDFW’s tracking nearly 900 tagged crabs. And yes, someone tried smuggling crabs in their clothes—four folks nabbed with 21 crabs (19 too small to keep)…
