- 0:00Speaker 1: The king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I
- 0:04Speaker 1: dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of
- 0:07Speaker 1: God dwelleth within curtains. 2 Samuel 7.2 Dear Heavenly Father,
- 0:16Speaker 1: You call our bodies a living temple. Therefore, as I
- 0:20Speaker 1: meditate on David and his heart in 2 Samuel and
- 0:23Speaker 1: 1 Chronicles, I have now decided to make sure that
- 0:27Speaker 1: my body will be a temple that is built to
- 0:29Speaker 1: house your presence. I declare that health and wholeness is
- 0:35Speaker 1: my focus. I declare that I now have the mindset
- 0:39Speaker 1: to get into the best shape of my life. My
- 0:43Speaker 1: body is an instrument that is used to bring your
- 0:45Speaker 1: love and glory to everyone I meet. Therefore, I will
- 0:49Speaker 1: be diligent to avoid anything that would hurt and hinder
- 0:53Speaker 1: my ability to live out my purpose and destiny. Thank you, Jesus,
- 0:58Speaker 1: that through you and your sacrifice, I now contain the
- 1:03Speaker 1: power to overcome any obstacle that would stand in the
- 1:06Speaker 1: way of my health. As I take care of my mind, body,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and soul, I thank you, God, that you can see
- 1:15Speaker 1: that I am trustworthy enough to honor the body and
- 1:18Speaker 1: life you've given me. Through this trust, you will continue
- 1:23Speaker 1: to not only bless me, but also allow my decision
- 1:27Speaker 1: to prioritize health to bless my legacy. I decree that
- 1:32Speaker 1: my body is the temple of the Lord, and I
- 1:35Speaker 1: will do whatever is necessary to make sure that God
- 1:39Speaker 1: can keep using me to build a kingdom that lasts.
- 1:44Speaker 1: In Jesus' name, amen. Thank you for making prayer a
- 1:52Speaker 1: priority in your day. To learn more about the Bible,

- 2:08Speaker 2: A kingdom that lasts. In our last story, we learned
- 2:13Speaker 2: about David returning the Ark of the Covenant home to
- 2:16Speaker 2: the people of Israel. Music, singing, and dancing filled the
- 2:20Speaker 2: air as the Ark made its way down to the
- 2:22Speaker 2: city of Jerusalem. However, the revelry was quickly replaced by fear,
- 2:28Speaker 2: as Uzzah was struck down when he touched the ark.
- 2:31Speaker 2: David questioned God's goodness, but pressed into God through his doubt.
- 2:36Speaker 2: When the ark finally returned to Israel, David leapt for
- 2:40Speaker 2: joy and danced among the people. He took off his
- 2:43Speaker 2: kingly robes, which angered his wife. However, David would not
- 2:47Speaker 2: be embarrassed to show his love for God. Now we
- 2:51Speaker 2: are introduced to a new prophet by the name of Nathan.
- 2:54Speaker 2: He would prove as a voice of encouragement, prophecy, and
- 2:58Speaker 2: correction for David for years to come. And David, with
- 3:02Speaker 2: a heart that loves God, leads the people of Israel
- 3:05Speaker 2: into more prosperity and victory. Inspired by 2 Samuel and
- 3:11Speaker 2: 1 Chronicles.

- 3:47Speaker 3: slash stress. In our previous story, we heard how David
- 3:52Speaker 3: moved the ark to Israel into the city of David
- 3:54Speaker 3: where it belonged. Though it wasn't an easy task, and
- 3:58Speaker 3: because David had set about it in the wrong way
- 4:00Speaker 3: at first, a man died. But the ark eventually made
- 4:04Speaker 3: its way to Israel, where David danced before the Lord
- 4:07Speaker 3: without shame. His own wife, Michael, disapproved, but David made
- 4:11Speaker 3: it clear he was worshiping God. Today we will meet
- 4:15Speaker 3: a new prophet, a man named Nathan, who will both
- 4:18Speaker 3: encourage and challenge David in the years to come. God
- 4:22Speaker 3: will speak through Nathan to guide and correct David, who
- 4:25Speaker 3: will lead God's people with a righteous heart that seeks
- 4:28Speaker 3: the Lord always. God will bless Israel with victory and
- 4:32Speaker 3: prosperity under this king who had a heart for God.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Listen now to today's scripture.
- 4:39Speaker 2: David arose from his bed early in the morning. The
- 4:42Speaker 2: musk of cedar and spring flowers filled the room as
- 4:46Speaker 2: a soft light trickled through the windows. David walked from
- 4:49Speaker 2: his bed towards the window and leaned over. He breathed
- 4:53Speaker 2: in the crisp morning air and let the new sun
- 4:56Speaker 2: warm his face. He looked around the outside.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Of his home.
- 4:59Speaker 2: There were gardens, trees, and wildflowers lacing the property. Across
- 5:04Speaker 2: the way was a hall for him to meet with
- 5:06Speaker 2: the elders and his mighty men. Growing up as a
- 5:09Speaker 2: shepherd boy, David would have never fathomed living like a king.
- 5:13Speaker 2: David looked back at his room. Beautiful cedar beams held
- 5:17Speaker 2: up the high ceilings. He observed them closely. David tilted
- 5:21Speaker 2: his head and pressed his lips together, seeing how the
- 5:24Speaker 2: large beams were constructed like pieces of art. Then, in
- 5:28Speaker 2: an instant, David's eyes widened. David put on his shirt
- 5:32Speaker 2: and robe and ran outside towards the meeting hall. David
- 5:36Speaker 2: burst through the doors with a smile on his face. Nathan,
- 5:39Speaker 2: the prophet, was there, as he often was if the
- 5:42Speaker 2: king needed counsel.' Nathan!' David shouted as he hugged him.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Nathan smiled and returned, wondering what had put David in
- 5:50Speaker 2: such a good mood. David leaned in close as he spoke, saying,'
- 5:53Speaker 2: Look at this beautiful home I have. I dwell in
- 5:57Speaker 2: a house of cedar, fortified and filled with beauty. Yet
- 6:01Speaker 2: the ark of God is outside, dwelling in a tent.'
- 6:05Speaker 2: David waved his arms towards the outside and put his
- 6:08Speaker 2: hands on his head. Why wouldn't the Lord be deserving
- 6:11Speaker 2: of a beautiful home? Nathan stroked his beard and pondered
- 6:15Speaker 2: David's words. He shrugged his shoulders with a grin and said,
- 6:19Speaker 2: Do all that is in your heart, my king. The
- 6:22Speaker 2: Lord is with you. So David wasted no time in
- 6:25Speaker 2: beginning the plans to build God a temple, a home
- 6:29Speaker 2: so magnificent and glorious that the whole world would awe
- 6:33Speaker 2: at the sight of it. That night, Nathan was praying
- 6:36Speaker 2: to the Lord on David's behalf. The prophet kneeled at
- 6:39Speaker 2: the side of his bed, considering the home David desired
- 6:42Speaker 2: to create for God. Then, in the quiet, God spoke
- 6:46Speaker 2: to Nathan, saying, Go and say these things to David.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I have not lived in a house since the day
- 6:53Speaker 2: I saved the people of Israel from Egypt. I have
- 6:56Speaker 2: been moving among my people in a tent. In all
- 6:59Speaker 2: their history, I have not asked for a dwelling place,
- 7:02Speaker 2: nor have I complained. Yet here you are, David, prepared
- 7:06Speaker 2: to build for me a temple. I remember taking you
- 7:09Speaker 2: from the pasture among your sheep. I have been with
- 7:12Speaker 2: you everywhere you have went. I have cut off every
- 7:15Speaker 2: enemy that pursues you. I will make you great in
- 7:19Speaker 2: all the earth, and I will set your son up
- 7:21Speaker 2: after you. When he sins, I shall not depart from
- 7:25Speaker 2: him like I did Saul, nor will I leave you
- 7:28Speaker 2: for all the days of your life. Nathan held these
- 7:32Speaker 2: words like precious jewels and presented them to David the
- 7:35Speaker 2: next morning. David sang and was glad. This interaction between
- 7:40Speaker 2: David and God truly showed why David was chosen to
- 7:44Speaker 2: be king. David was passionate after pleasing the heart of God.
- 7:48Speaker 2: He was still flawed and deeply naive in many ways,
- 7:52Speaker 2: yet his heart sought to cling to God's as Jacob
- 7:55Speaker 2: once did many years prior. Together, David and God shepherded
- 7:59Speaker 2: the people of Israel into an era of prosperity and growth.
- 8:04Speaker 2: As God gave David strength as a shepherd to defeat
- 8:07Speaker 2: lions and wolves, so he gave David the strength to
- 8:10Speaker 2: protect the people of Israel. David rose up against the
- 8:14Speaker 2: Philistines and completely subdued them and took one of their capitals.
- 8:18Speaker 2: After this, he defeated the kingdom of Moab, and the
- 8:21Speaker 2: Moabites served Israel and prospered as a result. David also
- 8:26Speaker 2: thwarted the king of Zobah in a fierce battle. The
- 8:30Speaker 2: two kings clashed over control of the Euphrates. He took
- 8:34Speaker 2: from him 1,700 horsemen and 20,000 soldiers. When the Syrians
- 8:39Speaker 2: came to King Zobah's aid, David and his mighty men
- 8:43Speaker 2: struck them down with a mighty blow. Many other kings
- 8:47Speaker 2: sought to destroy David, but ended up crushed by the
- 8:49Speaker 2: power of God. David reigned over the land with strength
- 8:53Speaker 2: and mercy. With each victory, the small and helpless nation
- 8:56Speaker 2: of Israel rose to a place of prominence and influence.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Yet David was not just a mighty warrior. Each week,
- 9:04Speaker 2: he would lead the congregation in worship, singing his psalms
- 9:07Speaker 2: before the people, drawing them closer to the presence of God.
- 9:12Speaker 2: He would write songs of God's goodness, power, salvation, and joy.
- 9:17Speaker 2: He taught the people how to be honest before God
- 9:19Speaker 2: while showing him reverence. Slowly, David's heart for God began
- 9:24Speaker 2: to translate onto the people of Israel. The once far-off, rebellious,
- 9:29Speaker 2: and fickle people of Israel were finally pursuing the Lord
- 9:33Speaker 2: once again.
- 9:37Speaker 3: As we begin today's story, we are introduced to a
- 9:40Speaker 3: new character. the prophet Nathan. It has been years since
- 9:43Speaker 3: God has spoken through the prophet Samuel, and now there
- 9:46Speaker 3: is a new man called to bring God's prophetic word
- 9:49Speaker 3: to his people and to King David. Nathan and David
- 9:53Speaker 3: will form a strong bond of trust over many years.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And in today's story, we find David seeking Nathan's for
- 10:00Speaker 3: counsel on an issue very close to his heart. As king,
- 10:04Speaker 3: David lives in a palatial home with all the comforts
- 10:07Speaker 3: and luxuries of a king. And yet, as he looks
- 10:10Speaker 3: at the ark and where it is kept, a tent,
- 10:14Speaker 3: he knows that this is not right. God's presence deserves
- 10:17Speaker 3: a home fit for a king. a heavenly king, something
- 10:22Speaker 3: beautiful and permanent, a temple that would catch the eye
- 10:25Speaker 3: of all who would see it. So David tells Nathan
- 10:29Speaker 3: that he wants to build a home, a temple for God,
- 10:32Speaker 3: and Nathan gives his blessing to David, knowing the king's
- 10:35Speaker 3: heart is right where it belongs. I imagine David is
- 10:39Speaker 3: like a small child with excitement as he draws up
- 10:42Speaker 3: the plans to honor God with a temple. Nathan, for
- 10:45Speaker 3: his part, took the request to the Lord in prayer
- 10:48Speaker 3: to confirm that his guidance to David was correct. God
- 10:51Speaker 3: was pleased by David's desire to build a temple. For generations,
- 10:56Speaker 3: God had moved with the Israelites, a nomad like them,
- 10:59Speaker 3: dwelling in temporary houses in the wilderness, going from place
- 11:02Speaker 3: to place. But now, as his plan was unfolding and
- 11:05Speaker 3: the man who pursued his heart was leading his people,
- 11:08Speaker 3: God would provide a permanent home that the world, all
- 11:12Speaker 3: the world, could see. Listen to what God says to
- 11:15Speaker 3: Nathan in 2 Samuel 7. He shall build a house
- 11:19Speaker 3: for my name, and I will establish the throne of
- 11:22Speaker 3: his kingdom forever. I will be to him like a father,
- 11:26Speaker 3: and he shall be to me like a son. When
- 11:28Speaker 3: he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod
- 11:31Speaker 3: of men, with the stripes of the sons of men.
- 11:33Speaker 3: But my steadfast love will not depart from him. These
- 11:37Speaker 3: words are specifically about David. but they reflect a desire
- 11:42Speaker 3: for God's relationship with each one of us. Our Father
- 11:47Speaker 3: in heaven wants us to walk with him as his children.
- 11:50Speaker 3: David's primary interest was not for the power of a
- 11:53Speaker 3: king or the position or the recognition. That was what
- 11:56Speaker 3: was in Saul's heart, and it led him on a
- 11:59Speaker 3: destructive path. David's desire was to honor God, to be
- 12:04Speaker 3: near to him, and show him love, reverence, and lavish generosity.
- 12:11Speaker 3: And for this, God blessed both David and the nation
- 12:14Speaker 3: of Israel. He led the nation to many victories and
- 12:17Speaker 3: battles against other nations. And with every victory, David gave
- 12:21Speaker 3: glory to God and made his name known throughout the earth.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Dear God, we thank you that you are our Father
- 12:29Speaker 3: and we are your children through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Thank you for the privilege of knowing you and loving you,
- 12:37Speaker 3: serving you and following you. May we always confess our
- 12:41Speaker 3: sins and find forgiveness. And may we always live in
- 12:45Speaker 3: obedience to you. In Christ's name, amen. Thank you for
