- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And on today's episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, we have a guest hypnotist.
- 0:47And I'm very fortunate to be joined by Seth Deborah Roth,
- 0:51welcome to the show. Hello.
- 0:53Hello. Great to have you here.
- 0:56First of all, let's get to know you a bit.
- 0:58Tell us a bit about yourself and and how you got into this
- 1:01fascinating world we call hypnotherapy ah.
- 1:07Well, first of all, my first nested kid and when I was
- 1:11seizure training, my instructor did hypnosis, but she didn't
- 1:18call it hypnosis. She was from Russia, an
- 1:22anesthesiologist from Russia, and she had also trained in
- 1:27China. And anyway, this is at a big
- 1:31County Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, and the our patient had lifted
- 1:39up a garbage container. The mafia was not happy with him
- 1:45and when they lifted up, when he lifted off off the top, it
- 1:49burned his face and we were doing a skin graft from his legs
- 1:54to his face. This is back in 197374 and they
- 1:59were using gases mainly at that time.
- 2:02And because of his burned face, we really could not put the mask
- 2:07on the face. And so you have the the all the
- 2:12normal air coming in besides the nitrous and the halothane.
- 2:16And he wasn't going to sleep. And Doctor Blumenfeld started
- 2:20talking in his ear and suddenly he just went, head tilted,
- 2:26tongue out. And he went to La La Land.
- 2:29And we did the skin graft. But I didn't know it was
- 2:32hypnosis. It was just Doctor Blumenfeld's
- 2:35way, right? And I modeled her and combined
- 2:42that with my own personality and Fast forward 1987, I'm facing a
- 2:48spine fusion and the doctor told me he was going to go through my
- 2:54abdomen and scared me. I, I've always worked in the OR
- 2:58so normally surgeries don't scare me.
- 3:01But then he, it scared me and I started at home putting my hand
- 3:07on my hip and doing visualizations and my the energy
- 3:13that I've been holding in, in my body started to spasm out and
- 3:19you could see my hip rising and falling from the increased
- 3:23circulation. And I called my husband over who
- 3:25was a surgeon. I said, Ken, Ken, look at this,
- 3:27look at this and my hips going up and down.
- 3:30And that was 1987. And I never had the surgery and
- 3:36I'm so grateful that I never had the surgery because now I work a
- 3:40lot in pain management with people who've had like 5 back
- 3:45surgeries. We called them failed back
- 3:47surgery syndrome. And I'm very grateful.
- 3:51That's how I got into it. You, you were on the front line
- 3:55seeing and, and what's interesting to hear about that
- 3:57is a lot of the time hypnotherapy is put into this
- 4:01category of complementary therapy or alternative therapy.
- 4:06And obviously in surgeries and, and hospitals, it's kind of seen
- 4:11as kind of proper quote UN quote, medical kind of
- 4:14treatment. And it's always seemed confusing
- 4:17to me because this Venn diagram doesn't have to be separate.
- 4:20They can overlap. And it seems like you saw that
- 4:24actually hypnosis was used in a, even if it wasn't called
- 4:28hypnosis, but hypnosis was used there.
- 4:30And that kind of planted a seed of an idea of actually, it can
- 4:33really help people in situations that it's not normally used.
- 4:37How did that change your trajectory after that point?
- 4:41You know, from there, from the 80s onwards?
- 4:43Well, it really didn't change. I mean, I'm still, I'm a nurse
- 4:48anesthetist so I'm still doing general anaesthesia, but
- 4:52certainly in the preoperative area it definitely has changed.
- 5:01I'm kind of semi retired now and so I'm not really doing general
- 5:07anesthesia anymore. I'm doing what we just conscious
- 5:10sedation and so forth. But I'm utilizing it in the pre
- 5:15op area quite a bit when I do work in pain management.
- 5:20And I'm also working in an angioplasty suite where we had
- 5:24very, very sick patients. And it really supplements what
- 5:32we're doing when we can't really give them anything because we're
- 5:37scared they're going to die on the table, to be quite frank,
- 5:40right? And you could calm them down.
- 5:43You can lower their blood pressure.
- 5:45You can just supplement whatever local they're getting, which
- 5:50sometimes isn't enough, but you can supplement it with hypnosis.
- 5:56The issue that is that you really don't call it hypnosis.
- 6:01What when? Especially when you're in the
- 6:03hospital setting. I work at a surgery center, so
- 6:06it's more privately owned and I have more leeway and the doctors
- 6:13are actually more open to it. Where is when you're in the
- 6:15hospital setting, it becomes a question of liability.
- 6:19You call it hypnosis. It's not really accepted.
- 6:23And so you just do it without telling people what you're
- 6:26doing. You're doing guided imagery,
- 6:29you're doing visualizations. This hard to get it accepted.
- 6:35And even in the areas such as with IBS or pain management
- 6:40where it is really accepted and there are studies on it, it's
- 6:45still very hard to get recognized as a valid tool
- 6:53sometimes. It's because I believe that it
- 6:56takes a while to do it for most. I mean, yes, there are rapid
- 7:01inductions and so forth, but it's not as fast as, OK, let me
- 7:05put it in IV and give the meds and that's that.
- 7:08And let's go on. You know, we got the next case
- 7:11to do. That's what you run into.
- 7:13You have the next case to do. Yeah, it's a stressful
- 7:17environment. There's a heavy work workload,
- 7:19lots of spinning plates. And I've always thought, you
- 7:23know, particularly doctors and, you know, anyone in a level of
- 7:27authority, particularly in the medical world, you know,
- 7:31naturally have this kind of prestige.
- 7:33Lots of hypnotists talk about this kind of prestige that's
- 7:36already there that can kind of help with hypnotic suggestions.
- 7:39They already have that. They already have that
- 7:41authority. I think it was the authority.
- 7:44Yeah. I think it was Stanley Milgram
- 7:46back in the in the 50s did a very, you know, profound study
- 7:50in, in kind of compliance based on authority.
- 7:53And if someone wearing a white coat said something, the
- 7:56compliance went went through the roof.
- 7:58So you've got people with a lot of credibility, a lot of
- 8:02prestige giving lots of very firm suggestions with, with
- 8:08complete concurrency as well. I mean, there is that downward
- 8:11inflection. It's very authoritative.
- 8:15A lot of hypnosis is happening, probably by doctors that don't
- 8:19even realize they're doing hypnosis.
- 8:22All the time and it it like stop saying, you know, 93 percent
- 8:28chance of dying right right there or say this is going to
- 8:32hurt it. It just boggles my mind.
- 8:37This is going to hurt. As a matter of fact, I had the
- 8:40other day, I had a little kind of wart thing taking off my
- 8:44ankle. And the dermatologist is coming
- 8:47with the, you know, the she's going to freeze it off with the
- 8:51nitrous, nitrous nitrogen. And so she's going to freeze it
- 8:56off and she's telling me it's going to hurt.
- 8:59And I tell her, don't say that, just say it might be a little
- 9:04uncomfortable. And then she adds, and you might
- 9:08feel a gentle breeze as it freezes off, right.
- 9:12So she she took it. What got me is she knew it, but
- 9:17she wasn't utilizing it. She was telling me how it was
- 9:19going to hurt. It was going to burn and hurt.
- 9:22And then when I corrected her, she knew just what to say, that
- 9:26it was going to be a gentle breeze.
- 9:29It wasn't like I told her to say that, right?
- 9:32And it's just their training and they, they model what they see.
- 9:40And all the people before have said this is going to be a bee
- 9:43sting. This is going to hurt, you know?
- 9:46And so that's what they do. And some of the docs will change
- 9:52when pointed out, but it's, again, it does need repetition
- 9:57because they've learned it a certain way.
- 10:00So they need constant reinforcement of this is how you
- 10:05should say it, this is how you should say it.
- 10:07And on top of that, here in the United States, we have, it's
- 10:12called the Joint Commission, where you have to ask a patient
- 10:18three times a day, I believe, whatever the rules are.
- 10:21But you have to say on a scale of one to 10, what is your pain?
- 10:27So you are reinforcing that pain every time you take their blood
- 10:31pressure, every time you're in the recovery room.
- 10:35I mean, you're saying what is your pain on one to 10 instead
- 10:38of saying what is your comfort level, right?
- 10:42And you're just banging your head against the wall and
- 10:45there's really nothing you can do about it at this point.
- 10:48It's those are the rules and you just play the game a little bit.
- 10:53Yeah, that's it. And and it's the power of words,
- 10:55isn't it? The power of language?
- 10:57Because I've never actually done hypno birthing with any clients,
- 11:01but I know lots of people that that really that's the thing
- 11:04that they do. And and one of the first things
- 11:07that they learn in hypno birthing is you don't use the
- 11:10word pain. You use lots of words like
- 11:12sensations, comfort, you notice things, you know, but this idea
- 11:17of, of pain being, you know, a suggestion, I mean, that's a
- 11:20label, you know, and, and, and it sets people up and, and, and
- 11:24I think, you know, that's, that's one example of, you know,
- 11:27albeit in maternity words where you do have hypnosis alongside
- 11:32kind of nursing and, and, and kind of doctors.
- 11:35So you know things are are moving in a direction I would
- 11:39say. You know, I, I because I was
- 11:42married to a physician to speak on the other side of the coin.
- 11:49And, you know, if they don't tell somebody who has cancer,
- 11:54these are your statistics here, then they could be sued that
- 12:00they, they didn't tell them the full story.
- 12:03I remember I'm I'm that old that when I first went into nursing,
- 12:08I was working in oncology and people were not told at the time
- 12:12that they had cancer because it was a death sentence.
- 12:17There was not the chemotherapy that they have now.
- 12:20So a lot of people weren't told. Whereas now that you have to
- 12:24tell them and you have to tell them the statistics.
- 12:28And it's very important how you tell them.
- 12:32I was listening to Doctor Bierman just the other day and
- 12:36he was talking about how statistics are extrapolated.
- 12:41And I actually just had AI have a girlfriend who was given a
- 12:45horrible diagnosis for her child with white brain matter.
- 12:50And I emphasize to her, it's just extrapolation, right?
- 12:55It's doesn't mean it's your daughter is going to have that
- 12:59outcome because she was supposed to die at age 4 and she's 28.
- 13:04So obviously she is not in that group.
- 13:09And so doctors have to be really careful how they tell people
- 13:15what's what's going to happen. You know, it's, it's, it is a, a
- 13:21weighing of, of what do you need to tell them, you know, so that
- 13:25they can get everything in order or, or even I told I, I'm in a
- 13:32group with on Facebook, a lot of groups on total needs because I
- 13:36had a total need done. And I tell people, stop
- 13:40listening to the scary stories. It's their story.
- 13:44It's not going to be your story. And if you happen to have some a
- 13:48hiccup, and I use the word hiccup instead of a complication
- 13:53that you'll be able to handle it and you'll do it well and you'll
- 13:57have a good prognosis and doctors will go, you healed so
- 14:02quickly. You know, even with the little
- 14:05hiccup, you healed very nicely. So it's, it's almost like
- 14:10setting up ourselves up for failure versus setting ourselves
- 14:17up for success. Also what you want, not what you
- 14:21don't want. Yeah.
- 14:23So it's, it's a fine line because I think there is a, a
- 14:26requirement to manage expectations and not, not hide
- 14:30truths and, and, and kind of facts, But equally, there's a
- 14:33lot of power in the point of delivery.
- 14:37And, and for some people, news could feel like a death sentence
- 14:41and other people it could feel like, OK, it's, it's a
- 14:45challenge, but there is hope. And, and it's how that is
- 14:48delivered. And when something bad happens
- 14:51to someone and that could be something very traumatic,
- 14:54there's a way of framing it where they can be a survivor or
- 14:58a victim. And one tends to be more
- 15:00empowering than the other. And it doesn't change what's
- 15:04happened. It changes everything about the
- 15:05meaning given to what's happened and and then what what follows.
- 15:10We're both speaking at the Irish Hypnotherapy Conference in in
- 15:13April over in Dublin. What's your talk going to be on?
- 15:18My talk is going to be on using hypnosis in the preoperative
- 15:27area and also supplementing for certain procedures where you can
- 15:35supplement what's going on, let's say in the angioplasty
- 15:38suite and and so forth. And then John Scanlon and I had
- 15:46a discussion just the other day and I'm going to have a pre
- 15:49conference workshop where it's going to be medical hypnosis,
- 15:54one O 1A crash course because there's more than just pre op in
- 16:00the operating room or in the hospital setting.
- 16:03There's also IBS, there's pain management, there's hair
- 16:08pulling, there's all kinds of places to use medical hypnosis
- 16:15and also in disease prevention, changing lifestyle.
- 16:19I mean, I work in the angioplasty suite and I can tell
- 16:25you diabetes and high blood pressure, that's it.
- 16:30It's, it's if we could get a handle on that, it would change
- 16:37everyone's lifestyle. They're the, the number of years
- 16:42they have and the quality that they have of life.
- 16:48If they, if people's lifestyle just would change and how they
- 16:52handle their stress, how do they handle the negative things that
- 16:57have happened in their life? Because we all have negative
- 17:00things, some more than others, some more traumatic than others.
- 17:05But we, that's part of being human and how you deal with that
- 17:10influences your body. And that's where we can use
- 17:14hypnosis especially, and how we deal with that, yeah.
- 17:21Yeah. And I think a lot of the time I
- 17:23think generations think about things differently.
- 17:26When when I think of my parents generation, a lot of it is, you
- 17:31know, kind of you've got some kind of an issue and then you
- 17:34get medical treatment. You're you're treating the
- 17:37symptoms, you're treating what's happened.
- 17:41Maybe I was fortunate, but but I had this kind of way of looking
- 17:45at stuff that if I'm sick, I have to deal with the cause
- 17:49rather than the the symptom. What do I need to sleep better?
- 17:52Do I need to drink more water? Do I need to eat more fruit?
- 17:55You know that element of reverse engineering, say, well, how did
- 17:59I get to this place and then change that?
- 18:02But but if I have that conversation with my parents,
- 18:04it's like I'm speaking a different language.
- 18:05It's kind of like, no, you see, you go to the doctor, they write
- 18:08a prescription, you take it like it's, it's, it's a cause and
- 18:11effect, but they're looking at the, the issue.
- 18:15And then the, the effect is we know you take the medication
- 18:18rather than what led to this. And, and you're right with
- 18:21diabetes in particular, because let's say, you know, in, in most
- 18:25Western societies, obesity is an issue.
- 18:28People don't join the dots that if you're overweight for long
- 18:31enough, you get the insulin resistance that can lead to type
- 18:352 diabetes, which is very reversible, but only if you
- 18:39believe it is. But if it but if it isn't, then
- 18:42it might have those kind of element of, you know, have
- 18:46certain, let's say kind of wounds that don't heal and then
- 18:49it could lead to an amputation. 1 amputation could lead to
- 18:52another amputation. Suddenly they're in a
- 18:54wheelchair, they can't really exercise.
- 18:56And it's kind of like that's like the 10th domino that that's
- 18:59fallen and the time to really deal with it was at domino one
- 19:03or two when they were slightly overweight.
- 19:06What do you think needs to change for for people to prevent
- 19:11the issues before they become the issues?
- 19:15You know, I am in that age category where it was not in my
- 19:21growing up, this knowledge and especially in the medical world,
- 19:28it was not in my knowledge, right?
- 19:31What? I wasn't taught anything like
- 19:33that. As a matter of fact, I remember
- 19:35nursing school being taught that once you were an adult, the
- 19:39brain was formed. That's it, right?
- 19:43And here I am like, I think I started in, well, I got
- 19:48certified in 2000. So, you know, learning all of
- 19:53this, this new stuff between the mind body connection that I had
- 19:57not a clue about not, I'm telling you, not a clue.
- 20:03And it's really we're lucky that that it's being more accepted.
- 20:13Holistic nursing, for example, is being accepted.
- 20:17Integrative medicine is being accepted.
- 20:21But there's still a lot of work to do as far as lifestyle.
- 20:27I mean, but definitely, you know, getting to the root of an
- 20:33an emotional issue like I was dealing with just, I've had
- 20:36quite a few clients lately with a chronic cough of all things,
- 20:40right? And they've gone through all
- 20:41these medical tests and they get, you know, now the hypnotist
- 20:46refers them to me because I do medical hypnosis.
- 20:50And there's usually a root issue that is stopping them from
- 20:58speaking up for themselves. But when I explained to them
- 21:03about the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system and
- 21:07it closes down on the vessels and then you have the chronic
- 21:11cough, they go, oh, and that's the authority that you're
- 21:16talking about and then they accept more of that.
- 21:20OK, then let's get to that issue of why you're that's stimulating
- 21:26your sympathetic nervous system, right?
- 21:28To react. And what was the questionnaire
- 21:33I, I get on my soapbox right? Because I see the connection so
- 21:41strongly between emotional issues and what's going on with
- 21:47anxiety. Whatever it is, there's an
- 21:50emotional issue that has to be released.
- 21:53And there are so many techniques that we have to release them.
- 21:58And and you need, my feeling is you can't just keep on putting a
- 22:03Band-Aid on it. No, you can't do it.
- 22:06Yeah, and, and, and I think particularly the Pharmaceutical
- 22:09industry, if we if we kind of niche down rather than looking
- 22:12at kind of the medical industry like it's just one, you know,
- 22:15kind of thing. The Pharmaceutical industry
- 22:17mainly is they're looking at symptoms and, and how do you how
- 22:23do you reduce symptoms? And, and, and lots of these
- 22:25things are are almost looked at in isolation.
- 22:29But quite often one thing one thing is connected to something
- 22:33else is, is connected to something else.
- 22:34If if someone is got high levels of stress over a long period of
- 22:40time, that's going to mean more cortisol, it's probably going to
- 22:43mean more adrenaline. That's probably going to affect
- 22:45sleep. If they sleep all the time,
- 22:47they're probably going to be eating more processed food to
- 22:49give them some form of an energy.
- 22:51And then you've got this kind of whole ripple effect that kind of
- 22:53leads to conditions. Plus a lot of the time the
- 22:56medication itself has side effects that they need other
- 22:59medications to mitigate the side effects.
- 23:00And it's kind of like, well, if you, if you rewind it all the
- 23:04way back, it's kind of like there is such a huge pay off
- 23:08from having good mental health, having good physical health,
- 23:11having good sleep, having good diet and it, and it's one of
- 23:15these things that can almost prevent all the very worst
- 23:18things happening just by getting some of the some of the key
- 23:22things. I mean, even even the things
- 23:26about keeping your weight, never mind diabetes and, and blood
- 23:31pressure, but even orthopedically speaking, so that
- 23:35you don't need to have, well, my knee problems came from skiing
- 23:39accidents. But still, you know, people if
- 23:41they could just take 10% of their weight off their knees
- 23:46will get better just by that. And if they could not put on the
- 23:5050 lbs, then maybe they won't have to have any knee problems
- 23:54to begin with. You know, we have the ability to
- 23:59really have a better quality of life.
- 24:03One of the gals that I was just working with, with the chronic
- 24:07cough and she was on, because of my medical background, I asked
- 24:15her what medication she's on. And she was on a statin that is
- 24:19known for coughing. So I spoke to her son and the
- 24:25son spoke to the doctor, always speaking to the doctor, never
- 24:28telling someone on my own, right.
- 24:30And so speak to the doctor that maybe this is part of the reason
- 24:34for her cough. And within two weeks, her cough
- 24:38was much better. Then I was able to get to the
- 24:41reason for the cough, which kind of started many years ago and
- 24:46which led to the high blood pressure, right?
- 24:49So it's a cascade cascading problem, right?
- 24:54And all you're doing, you know, medications definitely have
- 24:58their purpose and their place, but so does hypnosis.
- 25:05It certainly does. And you're going to do some
- 25:07hypnosis for us very shortly. But before we get into that and,
- 25:11and, and you explaining what you're going to be doing, if
- 25:14people are curious to learn more about you or to work with you or
- 25:18to take the training and, and, and your pre conference
- 25:21workshop, where can they go For more information?
- 25:25OK, Well my website is Hypnotherapy for health.com and
- 25:31my phone number here in the US is 510-552-7576 and then my
- 25:38e-mail is set, Deborah without the hyphen, just SETHDEBRAH at
- 25:45Hypnotherapy for health.com and I will get back in touch with
- 25:51them. If you, if you drop me a
- 25:53message, I'll make sure they're in the show notes as well.
- 25:56So you don't have to remember that if you're listening, just
- 25:58look in the show notes and you can find Seth's contact details
- 26:03and, and website and those kind of things.
- 26:04But you're going to do some hypnosis for us right now.
- 26:06So tell us what you're going to be covering and then we'll I'll
- 26:10put myself on mute and and hand it over to you.
- 26:13So this is just a very simple technique that I use in the pre
- 26:18op area, combining a little bit of heart math, their technique
- 26:25and then combining some breathing.
- 26:30And it's doesn't take long at all.
- 26:34It doesn't take long at all. And I find it very effective.
- 26:37And it's also something that I teach other nurses because I'm
- 26:43only one person, right? I can't be in all the pre op
- 26:46areas, but you know, in the pre op area, usually people's blood
- 26:52pressure goes up. I mean, we give them 1520 extra
- 26:56points just for nerves. Even even if you don't think
- 26:59you're nervous, when I take your blood pressure, it's showing up,
- 27:03right? That's your subconscious mind.
- 27:04You're still nervous. So this is just a technique that
- 27:08I've kind of combined the heart math and what I called the the
- 27:15red rose technique and I've added something called the
- 27:18Raspberry, which my daughter laughs with.
- 27:22It's so we'll do it. It's a really quick technique
- 27:26that you can just use of course in the preoperative area, but
- 27:31you can use it on your own just if something's really you need
- 27:36to slow down and get more centered.
- 27:39You know, when we are all wound up, we're almost like that part
- 27:45of us is a 12 year old child that can't make any good
- 27:48decisions when you're all wound up.
- 27:50And so you just need to unmerge with that part of you that is
- 27:57all wound up so. I'm interested to hear this.
- 28:02So I'm going to enjoy the experience with you.
- 28:06So I'm going to put myself on you and it's all over to you,
- 28:08OK? And it's very quick.
- 28:13So you're going to just sit in the chair and you've got to keep
- 28:17your head even, right? And you're just going to look
- 28:20upwards at your eyebrows. And you could look at your
- 28:25eyebrows or a spot in front of you high up on the wall and just
- 28:30take some nice slope breathing in and breathing out.
- 28:39Now what I'd like you to do is focus on your heart doing your
- 28:44breathing instead of your lungs. Your heart is breathing in and
- 28:49out, and your eyes are starting to get heavy.
- 28:53And just go ahead and feel that heaviness in your eyes, allowing
- 28:58yourself to blink. That's right, blinking.
- 29:02And then when you're ready, you could just close your eyes.
- 29:07That's right. Just allow your eyes to close,
- 29:11taking another heart breath, breathing in and breathing out,
- 29:17and allow yourself to just feel your heart expanding within your
- 29:24rib cage and breathing from your upper part of your chest where
- 29:31your collarbone is. And I just let go of the breath.
- 29:39And what I'd like you to do now is imagine a beautiful red rose
- 29:44in front of you. Just imagine that red rose.
- 29:48See it? You can see the petals, the
- 29:52redness make it lighter red, darker red, that perfect red
- 29:59rose in front of you. And now what I'd like you to do
- 30:02is imagine smelling, breathing in the beautiful fragrance of
- 30:08that red rose. Hold it for a moment, and now
- 30:12imagine that there is a handle in front of you, and slowly
- 30:16purse your lips and blow out the candle.
- 30:24Breathe in the red rose, see it, breathe it in, let it go into
- 30:30your senses. And now blow out the candle.
- 30:38Breathe in that rose into your senses.
- 30:43Blow out the candle. That's right.
- 30:49And now just go ahead and take your left or your right hand,
- 30:53whichever is more comfortable for you, and place it on your
- 30:57opposite wrist and gently squeeze the hand, the wrist, and
- 31:05say in a deep voice, peace. Peace.
- 31:12Could say it out loud or to yourself three times, peace.
- 31:21And now what I'd like you to do is take anything that's
- 31:28bothering you, any fear, anything that's bothering you,
- 31:34and you're going to do what I call the Raspberry technique.
- 31:39You're just going to take that fear, irritation, and on the
- 31:45count of three, you're just going to blow out a Raspberry
- 31:49and send it to the universe and give it away.
- 31:53You don't need it anymore. 1-2 and three and then let yourself
- 32:04giggle and then open your eyes when you're ready.
- 32:10It's just a quick technique that I use preoperatively and it I
- 32:15find the giggle is really, it changes things.
- 32:20It changes all the transmitters in your body.
- 32:23Getting that giggle going. Absolutely.
- 32:28It's a great pattern interrupts, isn't it?
- 32:30They're they're not expecting to be blowing Raspberry in in just
- 32:33before a bit of surgery and, and that kind of stuff.
- 32:36I know, I know. And it was, there's probably a
- 32:39little element of regression there as well, because for most
- 32:41people, the last time they blew a Raspberry, they were probably
- 32:43a child. And you know, it kind of brings
- 32:45back those kind of, you know, playground kind of memories and,
- 32:49and those kind of things. I think it's a it's a great
- 32:52you're. Right, I never thought of it
- 32:53all. I remember just being in a car,
- 32:55the car with my daughter and and something was bothering me and
- 32:59I, both of us, and we cracked up and I went OK.
- 33:06So, so yes, brings us back to childhood.
- 33:10That's it. And this is a theory as well
- 33:13called the lore of dominant effect.
- 33:15And, and an intense emotion will displace a different emotion.
- 33:19And if you're feeling silly or playful, that's going to
- 33:22displace that kind of anxiety. So, you know, it sounds like a
- 33:26silly thing to do, but, you know, think of something that's
- 33:28that's causing a problem blowing a Raspberry.
- 33:30But you know, there's a lot, a lot going on there, which I
- 33:33think is, is probably very helpful.
- 33:36Here we are this side of Christmas.
- 33:38We've got the Irish Shipner therapy conference in, in April
- 33:41in, in Dublin right now. I think up until January there
