- 0:00Speaker 1: Craig Way with you, Cameron Parker, the producer alongside Glad
- 0:03Speaker 1: to have you with us as well, and we're with
- 0:07Speaker 1: you each and every weekday from two to five. I
- 0:13Speaker 1: was going to respond to feedback on the on the
- 0:19Speaker 1: text line, however, I've got to reauthenticate a couple of
- 0:22Speaker 1: things in the here. But every it seems like every
- 0:25Speaker 1: few weeks now I'm getting these things about you got
- 0:27Speaker 1: to change the password blah blah blah blah blah that
- 0:30Speaker 1: locked me out a few minutes ago, And so I'm
- 0:32Speaker 1: going to do that on the in the meantime, I
- 0:35Speaker 1: wanted to ask you and and coming up in a
- 0:37Speaker 1: few minutes, Greg Tapper, managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas
- 0:39Speaker 1: Football Magazine, will join us. We're also going to hear
- 0:42Speaker 1: some conversations that Will Matthews from our long run radio
- 0:46Speaker 1: network broadcast crew has with the players. We have that
- 0:49Speaker 1: coming up as well. But I wanted to ask you
- 0:52Speaker 1: about this. What is the name Hudson Swafford mean to you.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hudson Swafford, a PJ tour golfer, went to the University
- 1:01Speaker 2: of Georgia. He's part of a really good Bulldogs class.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I think he was out there with Brian Harmon in Harris,
- 1:09Speaker 2: English and a handful of others got to the tour.
- 1:13Speaker 2: I believe he won once or twice on the tour
- 1:16Speaker 2: before defecting to Live Golf Tour, where he really hasn't
- 1:21Speaker 2: been heard of from too much lately. But I guess
- 1:23Speaker 2: if you're bringing him up, that means he's back to
- 1:25Speaker 2: the news for something. Was he just talking trash to Texas?
- 1:30Speaker 1: No? No, Hudson Swafford is in a unique position. He
- 1:39Speaker 1: apparently has been, as he says, quote unquote, rejected by
- 1:45Speaker 1: Live Golf and banned from returning to the PGA Tour.
- 1:49Speaker 1: He's a pro golfer without a home.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Oh that's a shame.
- 1:54Speaker 1: So he's not going to return to Live Golf after
- 1:56Speaker 1: a dismal twenty twenty four season. He tied for thirty
- 1:59Speaker 1: six in the first event of the year and he
- 2:03Speaker 1: did no better than that. He didn't get better that,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and the bosses of the Salui Back Tour have opted
- 2:13Speaker 1: not to renew his contract. Compounding his misery is the
- 2:18Speaker 1: fact that, even if he wanted to return to the
- 2:20Speaker 1: PGA Tour, he's ineligible for another twelve months due to
- 2:24Speaker 1: having competed in Live, which would consider which it considers
- 2:29Speaker 1: an unauthorized event. So he opened his PGA Tour account
- 2:34Speaker 1: twenty seventeen by winning you mentioned he won, He won
- 2:37Speaker 1: the Career Builder Challenge in California. He had to wait
- 2:41Speaker 1: more than three years for a second win. That was
- 2:43Speaker 1: that the Kraalis Pandicana Resorting Club Championship. Then he went
- 2:47Speaker 1: into the American Express in twenty twenty two, so he
- 2:50Speaker 1: had gained some momentum in the States, but decided to
- 2:55Speaker 1: join Live Golf for its inaugural event and had his
- 2:59Speaker 1: PGA Tour members ship suspended indefinitely as a result. Then
- 3:03Speaker 1: he had a hip injury which knocked him out for
- 3:05Speaker 1: a large chunk of last year, and he was one
- 3:08Speaker 1: of two wild cards this season. His wild card status
- 3:11Speaker 1: saved him from the drop despite finishing in the relegation zone,
- 3:15Speaker 1: but his contract has not been renewed, so he's booted
- 3:18Speaker 1: out of Live. He's not able to return to the
- 3:21Speaker 1: PGA Tour for another year. He could go to the
- 3:24Speaker 1: Asian Tour International Series, which is serving as a pathway
- 3:28Speaker 1: to Live for whoever finishes in the top of those standings,
- 3:32Speaker 1: but he's he apparently doesn't know where he's going to go,
- 3:37Speaker 1: what he's going to do.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess that that hip injury probably, you know,
- 3:41Speaker 2: obviously a big part of being able to play good
- 3:45Speaker 2: golf is you know, have a healthy hip. And obviously
- 3:47Speaker 2: looks like he probably didn't either recover a full hundred
- 3:52Speaker 2: percent when he came back in time. And you know,
- 3:54Speaker 2: I think they have a lot of pressure with their
- 3:56Speaker 2: contracts to be able to play through injury or play
- 3:59Speaker 2: in these events and not miss events and just came
- 4:02Speaker 2: back and you know, it was in the bottom of
- 4:05Speaker 2: the standing, so and it's tough. You know that that's
- 4:08Speaker 2: the thing with you know, you go and make this move.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And if you don't already have you know, a couple
- 4:14Speaker 2: of major championships or a lot of money in the
- 4:17Speaker 2: bank already, and you're because your banned from the PGA
- 4:19Speaker 2: Tour and something like this happens, all of a sudden,
- 4:23Speaker 2: your career looks completely different because if he was injured
- 4:26Speaker 2: on the PGA Tour, he could go through a medical
- 4:29Speaker 2: exemp list, right, and then you get a certain amount
- 4:31Speaker 2: of uh starts when you come back off the injured
- 4:35Speaker 2: list kind of and be able to you know, play
- 4:37Speaker 2: in these events, or at least work your way back
- 4:40Speaker 2: into these events through the corn Ferry Tour or other
- 4:43Speaker 2: PGA tours. Now there is still a pathway through, like
- 4:46Speaker 2: the Asian World Tour whatever, where if you win it,
- 4:48Speaker 2: you get a Lift Golf spot. But yeah, the negatives
- 4:51Speaker 2: of defecting from the PJ Tour in joining this Lift tour.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And he doesn't have the major championships to get himself
- 4:59Speaker 2: exempt into the Masters or the US Open or the
- 5:02Speaker 2: PJA or the British Open, like the Shambo or Koepka
- 5:05Speaker 2: or DJ or Sergio. So there's always a negative. Craig
- 5:09Speaker 2: was a negative. So I mean, I guess it was
- 5:11Speaker 2: a risk for Yeah, it sucks for for him to
- 5:13Speaker 2: be injured like that, but also you know, kind of
- 5:15Speaker 2: dug himself his own hole.
- 5:16Speaker 1: See I didn't know Live Golf was doing it. I
- 5:18Speaker 1: thought that was like whoever wants to come, come one,
- 5:20Speaker 1: come all, because they were trying to make a name
- 5:22Speaker 1: of themselves, but even they have their own relegation. Yes,
- 5:25Speaker 1: part I suppose on the text line somebody brought up
- 5:29Speaker 1: you know, I mentioned Lyle Lovin and I said he
- 5:31Speaker 1: was with Julia Roberts. Somebody said, yeah, don't forget that
- 5:33Speaker 1: Lyle love It was married to Julia Roberts for about
- 5:35Speaker 1: nineteen minutes.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah, this is two years. Yeah crazy.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I brought up on that Pizza Hut pizza about the
- 5:45Speaker 1: squid tentacles deep fried. Somebody said, isn't deep fried squid
- 5:48Speaker 1: tentacles basically just calamari. It's pretty close, right, because what
- 5:52Speaker 1: is what is kalamari? It's it's they just squidid. Yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: it's yeah. See I like kalamar. I do too, so
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think you would like that part of the pizza. See,
- 6:02Speaker 1: this is weird.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Usually I'm the one who's against these weird food things
- 6:06Speaker 2: and you are You're for it, but we're flipped here.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll try most anything. I don't know about the
- 6:13Speaker 1: blood cake. So if you took the blood thing out
- 6:16Speaker 1: of it and it was just a deep fry, somebody said, hey,
- 6:19Speaker 1: that tastes like chicken blood, right, yeah, and he said
- 6:28Speaker 1: the funky cold Medina ghostfish. We're talking about that ghost
- 6:31Speaker 1: fish story there, And then somebody else said, hey, it
- 6:34Speaker 1: was only a matter of time before Live started weeding
- 6:36Speaker 1: out lower level golfers as they had bigger names with
- 6:39Speaker 1: their set number of players in each field, So do
- 6:42Speaker 1: have that set number for those fifty four whole tournaments?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, I don't know. I mean some
- 6:48Speaker 2: of these names, I still don't think they're I mean,
- 6:50Speaker 2: you still got guys that like, I don't know, I've
- 6:54Speaker 2: never even heard of, like Kieran Vincent, you know who
- 6:57Speaker 2: calls Urties Still you know other guys.
- 7:00Speaker 1: If you haven't heard him. I know I haven't because
- 7:01Speaker 1: I know you pay great attention to Live because you
- 7:04Speaker 1: hate it so much. Oh, I don't hate it so
- 7:07Speaker 1: Rice and to Shambo kind of turned you. Now now
- 7:09Speaker 1: you're kind of kind of leaning toward the dark side.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm leaning. I still didn't watch
- 7:13Speaker 2: a single event from from Living, don't. I don't dislike
- 7:18Speaker 2: Rising as much as I used to, that's for sure.
- 7:20Speaker 2: But yeah, last event swaffered from this thirteen over par
- 7:23Speaker 2: and the winners were eleven unders. I must say, well,
- 7:27Speaker 2: the PJA Tour, you have guys who missed the cut
- 7:29Speaker 2: and they are twenty something shots. But yeah, but it's
- 7:31Speaker 2: four days and you have to qualify for these events,
- 7:33Speaker 2: and Live Golf Tour there is no qualification.
- 7:36Speaker 1: That's why I thought it was just like come one,
- 7:37Speaker 1: come all, You're all.
- 7:39Speaker 2: They now have added more and more players and they
- 7:41Speaker 2: have their own little relegation system, which is interesting. You know,
- 7:44Speaker 2: it's kind of kind of like European soccer mixed with whatever.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Couldn't you go and play corn Ferry, you know.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Because that's only by the PJA Tour. I'm saying he was.
- 7:54Speaker 2: It has to be a he had not gone to
- 7:56Speaker 2: Live Golf Tour and this happens where he loses his
- 7:58Speaker 2: PGA Tour card. So he can still earn it back
- 8:01Speaker 2: through the corn Ferry Tour or the Mackenzie Tour, or
- 8:06Speaker 2: one of the other millions of tours, whether it's in Australia,
- 8:09Speaker 2: the Sunrise to whatever. But because they're owned by the
- 8:12Speaker 2: PJA Tour, he's obviously banned from those, so we can't
- 8:15Speaker 2: qualify through that. So really the only way he can
- 8:18Speaker 2: kind of get back in is if he goes through
- 8:20Speaker 2: the Asian Tour. I think he could technically go through
- 8:24Speaker 2: maybe the lower left of DP World Tours, but anything
- 8:27Speaker 2: with the PGA Tour he's screwed because he can't get
- 8:29Speaker 2: that card.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I guess it's kind of like Major League Baseball players
- 8:32Speaker 1: when they don't have a home in the American and
- 8:34Speaker 1: National League, they wind up going to Japan to play,
- 8:36Speaker 1: or Korea work their way back.
- 8:38Speaker 2: We'll see if that's the case.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Or independent ball, right, yep, play indie ball absolutely all right.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Up next, we talk football in the Lone Star State,
- 8:45Speaker 1: both of the collegiate and high school variety, with Greg Tepper,
- 8:48Speaker 1: managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. When we
- 8:50Speaker 1: continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zoner, the
- 8:53Speaker 1: iHeartRadio app
