- 0:33Speaker 1: We'll do our best to excuse myle the indoors man.
- 0:40Speaker 4: What is happening?
- 0:41Speaker 5: I'm Rob Lundquist and I'm Bu and we are the
- 0:44Speaker 5: Avid Indoorsman.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Hello everyone, Hello, we.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Got our first first movie of the year.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Oh my god, I'm so excited.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Twenty twenty five, twenty twenty do this.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Let's do it?
- 0:59Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Are you?
- 1:00Speaker 4: Oh bod, I'm good.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I'm wearing a Minnesota Timberwolves shirt because I'm all in
- 1:06Speaker 5: on the Timberwolves. Now that's the only sport that's really
- 1:11Speaker 5: going on for me right this second. Yeah, that's our
- 1:15Speaker 5: vikings lost last night is when we're recording this.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah, it will likely come up again. I mean maybe not.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Maybe it'll be before we record, but there's no way.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Crew.
- 1:26Speaker 5: Yeah, the our two guests are huge Vikings fans, so
- 1:31Speaker 5: it'll definitely come up. It was a crazy season, yeah,
- 1:35Speaker 5: one of the rare fourteen win seasons, and then.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Just super I was surprised. I didn't expect that by
- 1:44Speaker 3: any means.
- 1:45Speaker 5: I didn't either, Like I was like maybe, like I
- 1:49Speaker 5: felt like we could definitely lose, but I didn't think
- 1:51Speaker 5: we were going to get blown out.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah that was the only thing, even winning that many
- 1:55Speaker 3: games this year, Like, I didn't expect that at all. No,
- 1:59Speaker 3: but yes, I agree. I actually kind of thought we
- 2:01Speaker 3: were going to win, because that's how I am. I
- 2:04Speaker 3: don't know that I'm emotionally ready to really talk about it.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It's just annoying more than you. No, it's not a
- 2:12Speaker 3: great way to end the season. This is my biggest
- 2:14Speaker 3: gripe about it, which would have been fun to see.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I would always just rather lose, like, wow, we played great,
- 2:20Speaker 3: but they just they played way better, you know what
- 2:22Speaker 3: I mean, rather than feel like, well that sucked, Like.
- 2:26Speaker 5: What where did this team come to? Right the last
- 2:29Speaker 5: two weeks?
- 2:29Speaker 3: It's like, what I didn't even do here? Apparently you
- 2:32Speaker 3: know or whatever, but whatever.
- 2:34Speaker 5: I hated that because like two years ago we were
- 2:36Speaker 5: thirteen and four and the whole time nobody was like,
- 2:39Speaker 5: this is a team to beat. And this year fourteen
- 2:43Speaker 5: wins and nobody was like, this is a team just like,
- 2:45Speaker 5: when are we going to be legit?
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Maybe never, I don't know.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Well, who knows, I don't know.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Maybe next year.
- 2:54Speaker 5: It's always maybe next year at least.
- 2:57Speaker 3: The Timberwolves aren't very good either, so we got that
- 3:00Speaker 3: going for us.
- 3:01Speaker 5: But that's what we're going. And I'm going to the
- 3:03Speaker 5: game tomorrow night. I'm gonna see Steph Curry in person.
- 3:06Speaker 3: That's right, I forgot you said that.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Fun. I'm very excited.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that'll be great. The Timberwolves are good. They're gonna
- 3:12Speaker 3: get better too, I think so, baby. Yeah, I don't know.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Who knows other than sports would have been watching you
- 3:18Speaker 3: been watching any movies?
- 3:20Speaker 2: I have?
- 3:20Speaker 4: Thank you for asking.
- 3:22Speaker 5: I actually watched a new movie that might be up
- 3:25Speaker 5: for some awards. It was up for six Golden Globes.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Six it won Best Screenplay by Heavens. It's a movie
- 3:33Speaker 5: called Conclave.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Oh, I've seen this as well.
- 3:38Speaker 5: So you saw it in the theater, didn't you?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 3:41Speaker 3: I think so? Yeah, Yeah, I think so.
- 3:44Speaker 5: So I saw it because it's currently streaming on Peacock.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Lovely and really enjoyed it. It kind of felt like
- 3:53Speaker 5: it could have been a play. Yeah, but it turns
- 3:56Speaker 5: out it was a novel by Robert Harris.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Ray Fine is definitely the star in this.
- 4:02Speaker 5: But you got the tuc the Tuach himself, who was great,
- 4:06Speaker 5: of course. Of course, you got John Lithgow, you got
- 4:09Speaker 5: Isabella Rossini, and yeah, it's so it's all about choosing
- 4:15Speaker 5: the next pope. In that process, there's some conspiracies, there's
- 4:19Speaker 5: some plotting, there's some it's like kind of a thriller.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 5: I thought it was really well done. It's definitely worth
- 4:26Speaker 5: checking out. And risa if you missed it in the
- 4:28Speaker 5: theater like I did, it's on Peacock.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Do you think that could win Best Picture?
- 4:34Speaker 4: I think it's going to be up. I don't think
- 4:36Speaker 4: it will win.
- 4:37Speaker 3: That's kind of how I feel too. It was good,
- 4:40Speaker 3: don't get me wrong. Like I enjoyed it. It's like
- 4:42Speaker 3: a political thriller or whatever. But yeah, best Picture, I
- 4:45Speaker 3: don't know.
- 4:47Speaker 5: I think it could be up, but I don't think
- 4:49Speaker 5: it has any real shot to win.
- 4:51Speaker 3: I don't have a good gauge though at all on
- 4:53Speaker 3: what's going to win Best Picture this year.
- 4:55Speaker 5: I feel like, yeah, I mean neither so except what
- 4:58Speaker 5: everybody's saying this list that Adre Brody is gonna be
- 5:04Speaker 5: way up there. And again I have not seen that.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Nope, I haven't yet either. Very cool though, love it.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yeah, what have you been watching?
- 5:11Speaker 3: I watched a new film as well. I went to
- 5:13Speaker 3: the theater and saw a little film called The Order.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You ever heard of it?
- 5:19Speaker 4: No?
- 5:21Speaker 3: Actually, I think I rented it. I rented it, That's
- 5:24Speaker 3: what I did because I was like, why isn't this
- 5:28Speaker 3: But this is Jude Law, Nicholas holt Ty Sheridan, and
- 5:33Speaker 3: then a bunch of other people are in it. It's
- 5:35Speaker 3: directed by Justin Kurzel, who I didn't really like know
- 5:40Speaker 3: ahead of time. But he's been around, I guess, doing stuff.
- 5:45Speaker 3: He did that Macbeth in twenty fifteen. I don't know
- 5:48Speaker 3: if you ever saw that back in the day.
- 5:50Speaker 4: No, I've only seen the tragedy of Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Same, But people really liked that, the twenty fifteen Macbeth.
- 5:58Speaker 3: At least I feel like I remember that. But so
- 6:01Speaker 3: I wasn't super aware of this, but this is a
- 6:03Speaker 3: cool story. This is a sort of a suspense thrillery
- 6:08Speaker 3: kind of thing. It's all about Jude Law is an
- 6:13Speaker 3: FBI agent who works like all these giant cases, and
- 6:17Speaker 3: he goes out west to kind of like slow down
- 6:20Speaker 3: quote unquote and finds out that there are some white
- 6:24Speaker 3: nationalists that are in the sort of Idaho slash Montana area.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I don't remember exactly where it is, but it's that
- 6:31Speaker 3: northwestern area, maybe even Oregon or something. But and it's
- 6:39Speaker 3: all about him like making a case against this, and
- 6:43Speaker 3: Nicholas Holt is one of the dudes in this. What
- 6:47Speaker 3: we find out is like sort of a cult kind
- 6:49Speaker 3: of white nationalist group. Really well done, super interesting, based
- 6:55Speaker 3: on you know, true stories and all those things. I
- 6:58Speaker 3: really like this movie a lot. Was super interesting. It
- 7:01Speaker 3: was it was pretty fun to watch it. It felt
- 7:03Speaker 3: a little a little too pertinent to today for my tastes,
- 7:06Speaker 3: but you know, like it is what it is, and
- 7:10Speaker 3: uh yeah, I recommend it. I thought was really good.
- 7:12Speaker 3: And Jude Law is just I mean, he's great in everything, dude.
- 7:16Speaker 4: And Nicholas Holt is just he's.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Working me everything.
- 7:20Speaker 4: It's crazy, dude and everything.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And I also didn't realize that ty Sheridan looks so
- 7:25Speaker 3: much like the Uh, what's his name? The Irish dude?
- 7:31Speaker 3: That's very very Keegan, Yes, Kegan. Look at a picture
- 7:35Speaker 3: of those two by side and they are very similar looking,
- 7:39Speaker 3: because there was a moment where I was like, that's
- 7:41Speaker 3: not him though, like like something's wrong? Is that him?
- 7:44Speaker 3: How could I not have heard them? You know? Interesting
- 7:47Speaker 3: those two are. They have a similar look about them.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Ty is not quite as good, but he's a very
- 7:53Speaker 3: fine actor as well.
- 7:54Speaker 5: He's been in a bunch of stuff too. See you
- 7:57Speaker 5: can rent or buy it? Uh, yeah, it's it's not
- 8:01Speaker 5: streaming yet.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I think I rented it on Prime Video because I
- 8:04Speaker 3: had like a sometimes you get like the you know,
- 8:08Speaker 3: ten dollars off or whatever, like credits if you order
- 8:12Speaker 3: things or whatever. So sure I did it on this
- 8:14Speaker 3: because I was like a Jude Law movie. I didn't
- 8:17Speaker 3: hear anything about this. This sounds interesting, so.
- 8:19Speaker 4: She went for it.
- 8:20Speaker 3: But yeah, check it out. It's called The Order. It
- 8:22Speaker 3: was very fun. I liked it nice. I think you'd
- 8:25Speaker 3: enjoy it. How about streaming? Have you been streaming anything? Yes?
- 8:29Speaker 4: I have.
- 8:29Speaker 5: I had talked about this in our last episode the
- 8:32Speaker 5: Best of twenty twenty four year in review.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Oh I love it Available.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Now available now, but only our patrons are able to
- 8:39Speaker 5: check this part out. I finished a Shrinking season two,
- 8:44Speaker 5: like I told you, Oh my gosh, and I just
- 8:47Speaker 5: adored it. I loved this season so loving all the characters.
- 8:52Speaker 5: The chemistry between them is incredible. Yeah, I felt like
- 8:56Speaker 5: they found their there, grew very quickly.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 9:01Speaker 5: It's hilarious. It pulls at your heart strings. They had
- 9:06Speaker 5: me boohoo and pretty good at the end of this season.
- 9:11Speaker 5: I could watch so many more seasons of this. I
- 9:14Speaker 5: hope that they keep doing it.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yes, please.
- 9:17Speaker 5: You know, they only did three seasons of ted Lasso.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I hope they do many more of Shrinking. I feel
- 9:23Speaker 5: like you could do more, you know, yeah, and still
- 9:28Speaker 5: have it be effective and fun. So I'm super super
- 9:34Speaker 5: into it. I was sad to see it and can't
- 9:37Speaker 5: wait to see more.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I love that. Did you know that? Because I only
- 9:42Speaker 3: recently found this out, that that Brett Goldstein helped create
- 9:46Speaker 3: this show and I didn't. I didn't realize that I
- 9:49Speaker 3: never connected those dots or whatever.
- 9:51Speaker 5: That was kind of why I brought up the ted
- 9:53Speaker 5: Lasso because yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, did he help break that too?
- 9:58Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Oh, this guy's a master.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Yeah he was one of the writers, dude, and then
- 10:02Speaker 5: they were like, you know who would be good?
- 10:04Speaker 4: Yeahs Roy.
- 10:06Speaker 5: He so he threw his hat in the ring. It
- 10:08Speaker 5: sounds like for this show they asked him to do it.
- 10:13Speaker 5: He didn't, like, he wasn't pushing for it.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Which is funny that he was up for the Roy camp,
- 10:20Speaker 3: like he did so well at it, But that is
- 10:22Speaker 3: so not like what his persona is otherwise, like he's
- 10:26Speaker 3: he talked, he talked really high and just like he's
- 10:29Speaker 3: kind of a happy guy. So it's a really funny
- 10:33Speaker 3: character that he put on for had him as kind
- 10:35Speaker 3: of a British Kermit. There I noticed it sounds like
- 10:37Speaker 3: British Kermit. He's Kermit's cousin across the Pond, Across the Pond,
- 10:44Speaker 3: Basil Basil Bazzle the Frog. Yeah, I love it, but
- 10:48Speaker 3: that's what he sounds like.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Oh I do know, isn't that?
- 10:52Speaker 3: I feel like I'm nailing it.
- 10:54Speaker 4: You're nailing it, glad.
- 10:56Speaker 3: We all agree. Yeah, check out drinking right now, because
- 10:59Speaker 3: it's check it out.
- 11:01Speaker 4: It's the best. He's killing it.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Every single episode laughed. I mean, it was just so fun.
- 11:07Speaker 5: They really got me at the end though, that last
- 11:09Speaker 5: episode man, just beautiful.
- 11:12Speaker 3: I heard someone say this week talking about that movie.
- 11:15Speaker 3: They were like, I always knew Harrison Ford was a
- 11:19Speaker 3: was a movie star, right and like an actor and
- 11:22Speaker 3: a star and all these things. I didn't realize he
- 11:24Speaker 3: was such a good actor until the show and I
- 11:27Speaker 3: was like, that's kind of fit. Like he really flexes
- 11:31Speaker 3: some different muscles. I feel like in this I really
- 11:34Speaker 3: like it.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I'm with you, yeah for sure.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Last episode.
- 11:39Speaker 5: The boohoos were a flowing Indeed, indeed, what have you
- 11:43Speaker 5: been streaming?
- 11:44Speaker 3: I streamed a movie that just like couldn't couldn't have
- 11:48Speaker 3: been made for me anymore. This is a movie from Netflix.
- 11:51Speaker 3: It's called Our Little Secret. Have you seen or heard
- 11:55Speaker 3: about this?
- 11:56Speaker 4: I haven't heard either of your ones.
- 11:58Speaker 3: This is the Lindsay Low vehicle that just came out
- 12:03Speaker 3: last year, the guys Ian Harding Christ and Channowith I think,
- 12:08Speaker 3: isn't it?
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yeah, she was the mother So those are like the
- 12:10Speaker 3: three probably biggest people in it.
- 12:13Speaker 5: This is a Christmas one, right?
- 12:14Speaker 3: This was a Christmas one? Yeah, So I watched it.
- 12:18Speaker 3: It's not good. It's very like Lifetime movie.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I was gonna say I thought it was a Hallmark
- 12:23Speaker 5: movie when.
- 12:24Speaker 3: You first, it's pretty close to that. The thing that
- 12:28Speaker 3: got me, well, One, I have loved Lindsay Lowen for
- 12:31Speaker 3: a long time, haven't seen her very much lately, so
- 12:34Speaker 3: that was fun. And Two it's a fun So the
- 12:39Speaker 3: elevator speech forward is two people are no longer dating,
- 12:43Speaker 3: but they dated for a long time. They both end
- 12:48Speaker 3: up with new partners at a giant Christmas party and
- 12:53Speaker 3: find out their partners are in the same family, and
- 12:56Speaker 3: so then they have to like interact and see that
- 13:00Speaker 3: and they keep it a secret and it's a whole thing.
- 13:02Speaker 3: And I was like, I've actually never heard of that
- 13:05Speaker 3: conceit for a rom com. And it's a fun it's
- 13:08Speaker 3: a fun premise.
- 13:09Speaker 5: Like they were keeping the fact that they had dated, yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 5: a secret.
- 13:12Speaker 3: They were like for some reason, they you know, when
- 13:15Speaker 3: they meet, they have the moment they're like, i've ever
- 13:19Speaker 3: met you, you know, like they panicked, and then they
- 13:21Speaker 3: have to sort of deal with the follow out of that.
- 13:24Speaker 3: It's a fun idea for a rom com.
- 13:25Speaker 4: I liked it.
- 13:26Speaker 5: And they fall in love yeah each other again, and then
- 13:29Speaker 5: they Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 3: To be honest, they could have made a better movie
- 13:32Speaker 3: with that conceit, but yes, and also just like so
- 13:35Speaker 3: many of these movies. It's like, why don't you just
- 13:37Speaker 3: tell them the truth? It's not the big.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Right, I think, right, like, yeah, communications cool, just say
- 13:42Speaker 5: it right.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Away and then it's not You don't have to keep.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Like, oh we actually dated?
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah right, Oh my god, this is weird but whatever movie?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Yeah right.
- 13:53Speaker 3: And I also being from a small town, like the
- 13:56Speaker 3: people dating people who are now dating this small pool
- 14:00Speaker 3: such a such a non factor in a small It's like, right, well,
- 14:05Speaker 3: I mean.
- 14:07Speaker 4: That makes a lot of sense.
- 14:08Speaker 3: You guys are friends, you know, right, Yeah, yes, so
- 14:14Speaker 3: it happens. But uh, yeah it was. It was pretty good.
- 14:17Speaker 3: I liked it. I don't know, wait till next Christmas
- 14:19Speaker 3: because it's very Christmas eve, so you might like, yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 4: I'm out of the Christmas season now getting out.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Don't rush out and see what I did? Enjoy it?
- 14:29Speaker 3: Well that's good, but yeah, what do you think should
- 14:32Speaker 3: we do? If you plug our runs? Let's plug it up, bro. Nice.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You guys can visit us as always over on the
- 14:36Speaker 3: Twitter machineere we're at avin Indorsman with a Z. I
- 14:39Speaker 3: can go to Facebook dot com. We're available on Instagram
- 14:43Speaker 3: and TikTok. I think we have a Blue Sky account.
- 14:46Speaker 4: We do you have a Blue Sky account from.
- 14:48Speaker 3: What I understand, Uh, we're all over the place, gang,
- 14:51Speaker 3: so come on out and say what's up. But if
- 14:53Speaker 3: you really want to hang out and be part of
- 14:55Speaker 3: the crew, the spot to.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Go Patreon dot com slash the it endorsement. Yeah, it's
- 15:01Speaker 5: a great time on Patreon. We love our patrons. We
- 15:03Speaker 5: give them lots of perks. One of those perks is
- 15:05Speaker 5: getting a shout out here. So let's give a big
- 15:07Speaker 5: shout out too. Marsha Grisiac, Mary Fox, Ninette Walkley, Yoham,
- 15:13Speaker 5: brost It, Jackie Houston, Debulk, and Noel Flores. You guys
- 15:18Speaker 5: are wonderful. Hell yeah, thanks for being patrons. And another
- 15:23Speaker 5: perk we'll give our patroons is an extended version of
- 15:27Speaker 5: every episode that we put out. We'll do a top
- 15:30Speaker 5: five draft that pertains to the movie we're talking about
- 15:32Speaker 5: in this one. Shockingly, bugs, let me know, we've never
- 15:36Speaker 5: done a top five monster movie draft.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I was as surprised as anybody, honestly. I mean, it's crazy.
- 15:43Speaker 4: It's crazy.
- 15:44Speaker 5: So I feel like we'll kind of we didn't really
- 15:47Speaker 5: say what constitutes on Monster, so we're gonna have to
- 15:51Speaker 5: chat about that a little bit when we're doing it.
- 15:53Speaker 3: But yeah, hopefully nothing crazy comes. You know, we'll be
- 15:56Speaker 3: pretty lax, I'm sure, but.
- 15:58Speaker 4: I'm hoping because otherwise my list is pretty short.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Yeah. I think it'll be pretty obvious cool.
- 16:06Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 16:07Speaker 3: I don't know, we'll.
- 16:08Speaker 4: See, we'll find out.
- 16:09Speaker 3: It'll be fun, but there's a crap ton of them,
- 16:12Speaker 3: so right, or at least I think there's a crap
- 16:15Speaker 3: ton of them. We'll find out. That's part of the fun,
- 16:18Speaker 3: so make sure to stick around for that. Do it
- 16:22Speaker 3: coming attractions. I don't actually remember what's next. I shouldn't
- 16:25Speaker 3: have said that. We just said it.
- 16:27Speaker 4: It's a movie game.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Night, movie game night. Duh.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Yeah, movie game night by the way.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Yeah, well movie game night to start off the year,
- 16:35Speaker 3: So stick around for that, and then we got a
- 16:37Speaker 3: whole bunch more movies coming up after that, so that'll
- 16:40Speaker 3: be real fun. But we're here today to talk about
- 16:44Speaker 3: a monster movie that I think is in more than
- 16:48Speaker 3: just plot, is a monster movie because it's so much fun.
- 16:54Speaker 3: We're here to talk about Tremors today gang a silly
- 16:58Speaker 3: good time. We'll be had by all. And we had
- 17:00Speaker 3: to get just two of our favorite little monsters here
- 17:03Speaker 3: with us. They're beautiful, they're lovely. They chase us around
- 17:07Speaker 3: whether we want them to or not. Let's give it
- 17:10Speaker 3: up once again for Benny Ellich and Adam Renegade Wilson.
- 17:15Speaker 3: What's up, guys? What lovely? You guys are lovely. Nice
- 17:27Speaker 3: to see your beautiful faces.
- 17:29Speaker 2: About a bad sexual episode I had last.
- 17:33Speaker 3: I heard that or the right one came out of
- 17:40Speaker 3: nowhere like a graboid. I don't know.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Wow, doing some segues already.
- 17:46Speaker 4: I I like snake oid better.
- 17:48Speaker 3: But snake oid like a special kind of hammer.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Homember Walter says that there're trying to throw out.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Good.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Hi guys, Ben, how's the beginning of the year been
- 18:02Speaker 5: for you?
- 18:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:04Speaker 4: Good. Benny's got a little bit going on.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Busy, busy do I have? Oh?
- 18:09Speaker 4: I think you got a little movie coming out.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Oh, just a major motion picture that's coming out, No
- 18:15Speaker 5: big deal.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yes, I'm probably gonna for about four seconds. He can't
- 18:19Speaker 2: cut you stage true. This is Stephen Sober. Yeah, sorry,
- 18:27Speaker 2: and that's true. He can't cut me this time because
- 18:29Speaker 2: he cut me in the one before. He cut me
- 18:31Speaker 2: out of Full Circle on HBO, right, and then gave
- 18:35Speaker 2: me this part in this movie.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Which in turn has come full circle and you're on screen. Now, great,
- 18:45Speaker 3: what if he just keeps me bring it back next time?
- 18:47Speaker 2: You shouldn't plug it just in case.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Now we're still plugging.
- 18:53Speaker 5: It's coming out tomorrow that people are listening to this,
- 18:57Speaker 5: which is pretty cool.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Yea excited, But it's a cool concept. It's Steven Soberg
- 19:03Speaker 2: loves a high concept. It's called Presence and it's about
- 19:07Speaker 2: it's like a scary family in a house situation, but
- 19:11Speaker 2: you are watching it from the point of view of
- 19:14Speaker 2: the presence. Wow.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that's very that sounds bad.
- 19:20Speaker 5: I saw a trailer for it before something. It looks
- 19:22Speaker 5: very scary on Renegade's list.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Me.
- 19:26Speaker 5: You guys don't like the scariest Yeah, they don't like scaryes.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Also, speaking of Steven Soberg, he's my one degree of
- 19:33Speaker 2: separation with mister Kevin Bacon. Nice hell yeah, because he
- 19:38Speaker 2: was in sex Lives of videotape. Oh yeah, and then.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Oh the nick I never saw that, So there you go.
- 19:49Speaker 4: I love that. Is that what our game is going
- 19:52Speaker 4: to be? Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? Yeah, we already
- 19:55Speaker 4: it's done, Benny one.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Thanks for listening.
- 20:00Speaker 5: I enjoy great outdoor indoors, indoors.
- 20:05Speaker 4: It's inside poop.
- 20:07Speaker 3: I always cut it when I screw those up.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Don't worry.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Well, that's fun. Check that out. That's in theaters only,
- 20:15Speaker 3: I assume, right, I think. So it's got.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Probably for you know, ten minutes, and then it'll be
- 20:20Speaker 2: on yeah, on the stream.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Go see it in the theater. Tell everyone you're only
- 20:25Speaker 3: there to see Benny Ellach. We'll get back and then
- 20:29Speaker 3: we'll get back to him, Sammy. I mean the check cleared, right,
- 20:33Speaker 3: What do we care at that point? I mean, I
- 20:36Speaker 3: don't know's.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Another credit on the IMDb. Correct, love it?
- 20:41Speaker 3: I hope you're in it. I hope you're in there.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Well, great, boys. I think we should get started on
- 20:47Speaker 3: this movie because I'm afraid we might talk about it
- 20:48Speaker 3: for a while. It is celebrating its twenty fifth anniversary.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Just a fine film.
- 20:56Speaker 5: Callirty thirty fIF calculator boy.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I don't know, well, I stupid it's from ninety Yes,
- 21:07Speaker 3: that's thirty years ago.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Yeah, fifty pound man, I can say that.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Yeah, nice, agreed, you should see this out? Never mind? Okay, great?
- 21:21Speaker 3: Uh well, Rob, will you geta started with Just a
- 21:24Speaker 3: rough synopsis I sure can.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Repairman Val McKee and Earl Bassett are tired of their
- 21:31Speaker 5: dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada.
- 21:35Speaker 5: But just as the two try to skip town, they
- 21:38Speaker 5: happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned
- 21:40Speaker 5: seismologist studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help
- 21:45Speaker 5: of an eccentric couple, the group fights for survival against
- 21:49Speaker 5: giant worm like monsters hungry for human flesh.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Nice great read, great read. Thanks, I could have been
- 21:58Speaker 3: on the trailer. Good work.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Hey, thanks cold I was reading it. Oh yeah, it
- 22:05Speaker 4: was very cold.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yes, everything we do here is cold. That's why it's
- 22:10Speaker 3: to such a lofty degree. Let's rush on over to
- 22:14Speaker 3: rotten tomatoes now and hear what they did to say.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Critics have this coming in guys at eighty eight percent.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Shocked by that. I can't believe it.
- 22:24Speaker 2: I thought you were gonna wow.
- 22:26Speaker 3: I thought so too, Like I just assumed they would
- 22:29Speaker 3: pan it. They did not. Audience members have it at
- 22:32Speaker 3: seventy six percent. So yeah, if you would have asked me,
- 22:35Speaker 3: I would have said those numbers were reversed.
- 22:37Speaker 4: For happened so often.
- 22:39Speaker 3: It's very confusing. I don't know how it works. I
- 22:41Speaker 3: don't know.
- 22:42Speaker 5: It was a critic and I believe I believe the
- 22:46Speaker 5: IMDb is at like a seven to two, which is
- 22:48Speaker 5: very good.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Great, That is great, good. Nice. Yeah. I feel like
- 22:52Speaker 3: movies that I loved as a kid are usually pretty
- 22:55Speaker 3: critically banned. Oh yeah, but not this one. And we're
- 23:00Speaker 3: dangerously close to the next little Guy here, So let's
- 23:03Speaker 3: go in and let's talk about our hot take.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Hot take. Ooh, that's a hot take.
- 23:09Speaker 3: That's a hot take about spicy graboid elephant gun. I
- 23:17Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know what's spicy about this movie.
- 23:19Speaker 3: They're in a desert. Yeah, it's good to a good start. Professionally,
- 23:25Speaker 3: I will go first. I loved this movie as a
- 23:28Speaker 3: kid and continue to love it to this day. I
- 23:31Speaker 3: think it's really fun. I did not remember that it
- 23:34Speaker 3: is very horror movie adjacent at the beginning, and then
- 23:39Speaker 3: I feel like they kind of go away from that
- 23:41Speaker 3: a little bit, like it turns into something slightly different
- 23:45Speaker 3: to me. I don't know, I don't know how to
- 23:47Speaker 3: explain that. But at the beginning, it's very monstery and scary,
- 23:52Speaker 3: which was still fun to watch. But I just don't
- 23:54Speaker 3: remember that. I feel like I remember the Shenanigans more
- 23:57Speaker 3: than anything in this movie. Sure, I love the saccharin
- 24:03Speaker 3: version of you know, the sort of doomsday or motif
- 24:07Speaker 3: of the gun nuts. That was fun back when they
- 24:11Speaker 3: were harmless and just a nice, a nice little crew.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Rebo was wonderful in this I loved. Yeah, I mean,
- 24:19Speaker 3: all the people were really fun. I feel like this
- 24:20Speaker 3: movie tows the line really well between like monster movies
- 24:24Speaker 3: slash horror and then also still pretty enjoyable. Everyone's pretty charismatic,
- 24:29Speaker 3: and you have like a fun, a fun little swath
- 24:32Speaker 3: of characters that you kind of believe are, you know,
- 24:35Speaker 3: just in the middle of this tiny town in the West,
- 24:38Speaker 3: And I think that's really fun. But yeah, I think
- 24:42Speaker 3: this movie's great. I had a great time rewatching it.
- 24:45Speaker 3: It was super fun. It's been a long time since
- 24:48Speaker 3: I've seen it now, which was really It felt very
- 24:50Speaker 3: fresh and cool. It made me think that they whoever
- 24:55Speaker 3: wrote this had to like the Sandworms from Dune back
- 24:58Speaker 3: at that point because it had been out for a
- 25:00Speaker 3: long time. But I mean they're similar, so that would
- 25:04Speaker 3: make sense. But yeah, I think that's pretty great. My
- 25:07Speaker 3: hottest take on this movie though, is why did we
- 25:11Speaker 3: all just accept that there's only three? I mean, I
- 25:14Speaker 3: know she proved there was at least three because they
- 25:16Speaker 3: were happening at the same time, but they were four.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's right.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Four tough.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Three left at the point where they talk about we
- 25:26Speaker 3: have these three modules or whatever. But like everyone was
- 25:30Speaker 3: just like, yeah, fucking three left. We're good, We're cool. Nope,
- 25:34Speaker 3: there can't be anymore none.
- 25:36Speaker 4: That's fun. You gotta save that for the sequel after Shocks.
- 25:40Speaker 3: That is true, which is great. I really desperately wanted
- 25:44Speaker 3: to watch all of them, but I was scared I
- 25:45Speaker 3: wouldn't be able to separate them, so I waited. Yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 3: she's smart, she knows about things.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Noise, noise on the ground.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, so uh yeah, that's it. I like this
- 26:01Speaker 3: movie a lot. That's my hot take, hot take ooh ouch.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I grew up with this movie as well. I watched
- 26:07Speaker 5: it a bunch with my dad, loved it. It's probably
- 26:12Speaker 5: been thirty years since I saw it last and still
- 26:15Speaker 5: had so much fun with it. It's written by a
- 26:18Speaker 5: guy named S. S. Wilson who was big in the
- 26:20Speaker 5: eighties and nineties. He wrote Short Circuit. He also did
- 26:25Speaker 5: another one that I loved called Heart and Souls. Did
- 26:27Speaker 5: you guys watch that one?
- 26:28Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 26:28Speaker 5: And the director directed this. Underwood love that movie. I
- 26:33Speaker 5: don't think Hugh's just seen it either.
- 26:35Speaker 4: My mom loves that movie.
- 26:37Speaker 5: I loved it. He also did Wild wild West as well,
- 26:42Speaker 5: which is a bummer, but.
- 26:46Speaker 3: She also loved.
- 26:47Speaker 5: But I thought this was written really well. It was
- 26:51Speaker 5: great pacing, well developed characters. I thought in this, you know,
- 26:58Speaker 5: for a silly movie, I thought it was pretty Ron Underwood,
- 27:02Speaker 5: Like you said, he directed it. He immediately followed this
- 27:04Speaker 5: movie up with City Slickers, one of my all time shaves.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Which is great. He just stayed in the desert. He
- 27:09Speaker 2: was got better idea.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it looks like now he pretty much exclusively does television,
- 27:16Speaker 5: but still doing it. This movie, I felt like right
- 27:21Speaker 5: amount of funny and scary. It also doesn't seem like
- 27:25Speaker 5: they spent a bunch of money making it. The practical
- 27:28Speaker 5: effects though still like totally worked. Like the cinematography of
- 27:33Speaker 5: the you know, those fast shots like following the ground
- 27:36Speaker 5: like pretty effective, you know, and not needing a bunch
- 27:39Speaker 5: of CGI. I was impressed. I feel like even if
- 27:44Speaker 5: I had never seen it before that I still would
- 27:46Speaker 5: think that this movie was a good time. I am
- 27:48Speaker 5: biased because all that nostalgia, but I think it's legitimately
- 27:53Speaker 5: a really good time still.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I wonder that a lot about movies from when we
- 27:57Speaker 2: were kids. If absolutely, if I'm just love it because
- 28:01Speaker 2: it's so deeply ingrained in me, or right, if I
- 28:04Speaker 2: objectively would still think it.
- 28:06Speaker 5: Was good, Yeah, I think this one would be up there.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Now.
- 28:08Speaker 5: There is one thing, hot take. Today's technology makes this
- 28:12Speaker 5: movie not really work at all, with you know, cell
- 28:15Speaker 5: phones and being you know, just the internet being able
- 28:18Speaker 5: to be like, hey, there's this crazy.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Wor world you could do it if they're in the desert,
- 28:24Speaker 2: and maybe there's a way, Yes, maybe for sure.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Another funny thing I saw on the internet that first
- 28:32Speaker 5: scene where fred Ward is in the sleeping bag and
- 28:36Speaker 5: Kevin Bacon Yell's stampede and then he falls.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Off the back of the truck.
- 28:40Speaker 5: The sleeping bag he like looks like a graboid and
- 28:43Speaker 5: he's falling off that's a truck, and it's like totally
- 28:48Speaker 5: foreshadowing the end of the movie.
- 28:51Speaker 3: I also never realized that they're in the exact same
- 28:53Speaker 3: spot as late as the end of the movie. In
- 28:56Speaker 3: the beginning, Like I didn't until this rewatch, didn't realize
- 28:59Speaker 3: that that's fun.
- 29:00Speaker 4: I like to I saw that.
- 29:01Speaker 5: I can't take credit for it, but I thought that
- 29:04Speaker 5: was really cool.
- 29:05Speaker 3: That was original.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Guys, it's me.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I. We're gonna take those for yourself because I'm I'm
- 29:14Speaker 2: sure no one was going to go research that after
- 29:16Speaker 2: the pod maybe.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Though maybe it was a rod.
- 29:20Speaker 5: We appreciate your honesty, yes, absolutely, but yeah, super good time.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Love this movie, love it hot take, love it all right, boys,
- 29:28Speaker 3: but you would like to go first?
- 29:31Speaker 2: All right? Uh?
- 29:32Speaker 5: You know how die Hard kind of started its own
- 29:35Speaker 5: genre of die Hard on a bus on a plane.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Benny and I were actually kind of talking about that recently.
- 29:43Speaker 5: I think this is Jaws with giant worms. Ye that
- 29:48Speaker 5: love that takes obviously the the obvious answer is that
- 29:53Speaker 5: they're a small community being terrorized by a giant monster.
- 29:58Speaker 5: But more so, like how this movie shot with the
- 30:01Speaker 5: less is more like, the less you see of the
- 30:06Speaker 5: worms and graboids, the more effective it.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Is not to interrupt. But I think that's utue to
- 30:11Speaker 2: your point why the opening is more scary because you
- 30:14Speaker 2: don't know what's going on, the points coming.
- 30:18Speaker 5: You don't see them for the first what thirty minutes,
- 30:21Speaker 5: it's like those little poofs of smoke and like the
- 30:24Speaker 5: the fence post breaking is much more effective than if
- 30:28Speaker 5: we were actually to see these giant worms.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I do love that.
- 30:31Speaker 5: I just think it's a testament to what Ron Underwood did,
- 30:33Speaker 5: because this could have been a terrible, terrible movie if
- 30:36Speaker 5: it was poorly directed.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Understanding the limitations of well knowing that we can't show
- 30:44Speaker 2: these too much because we're just getting it just.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Like, I mean, that's why. Yeah, of course, that's why Jaws.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Did that, because like the animatronic shark wasn't working and
- 30:55Speaker 5: so they're like, oh, let's just not use it.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Yeah, as much as possible.
- 30:59Speaker 5: It ended up much more effective, and I think they probably,
- 31:03Speaker 5: I don't want to say stole that, but they learned
- 31:05Speaker 5: lessons from that how to do that properly and it's
- 31:09Speaker 5: very effective here.
- 31:10Speaker 4: For sure.
- 31:11Speaker 5: They could have used John Williams in this movie. However,
- 31:15Speaker 5: I say that I was gonna say. The one thing
- 31:18Speaker 5: is that there's essentially no score.
- 31:23Speaker 2: Is the dude's rug basically like just bringing it all together. Yeah,
- 31:27Speaker 2: they're really Yeah.
- 31:29Speaker 5: There's it's very minimal if if not existing and.
- 31:33Speaker 2: You really could have crushed one because it would have
- 31:35Speaker 2: been just front and center.
- 31:37Speaker 3: I mean, it's just waiting for it, right, But yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 3: it's not not really there.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Yeah, that's great. Love that take take.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Benny, what you got buddy.
- 31:52Speaker 2: This is a film. And for all your listeners out there,
- 31:55Speaker 2: you'll notice I said film, not a movie. Film, film
- 32:00Speaker 2: about friendship, teamwork, and may I say the hard working men, women,
- 32:09Speaker 2: and non gender conforming folk of the American Southwest.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Hell yeah?
- 32:15Speaker 2: And is the monster really a monster? Or is it
- 32:20Speaker 2: just a meditation on the days gone by of a
- 32:25Speaker 2: of a Reagan led United States that we're trying to
- 32:29Speaker 2: leave in the rearview mirror. I don't know, you guys,
- 32:32Speaker 2: or is it just a fun monster movie?
- 32:34Speaker 4: That's probably that.
- 32:39Speaker 3: The monster is us.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I'm sure mister Underwood probably wasn't going for that.
- 32:48Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Also, I I watched this as a kid too. This
- 32:54Speaker 2: is one of those like if you didn't catch it
- 32:56Speaker 2: on VHS as a kid, like you're you're now and
- 33:00Speaker 2: you're like, what are you guys talking about movies? But
- 33:04Speaker 2: to all of your points, it's way better than it
- 33:07Speaker 2: should be or needs to be agree And like, yes,
- 33:12Speaker 2: maybe I could use all hair more character development. But
- 33:15Speaker 2: they don't waste any time in this bad Boy.
- 33:18Speaker 3: They really don't run into it.
- 33:20Speaker 2: I guess my hot takes, since you guys took all
- 33:23Speaker 2: the hotty hot takes. I like to think of Valen
- 33:26Speaker 2: Earl as possible lovers, yes, which I'm totally okay with
- 33:30Speaker 2: and everyone should be okay with. And I think, I
- 33:35Speaker 2: don't know, I just think it's there. They have such
- 33:37Speaker 2: a wonderful relationship, such a fun rapport. You know, they
- 33:41Speaker 2: don't even start them with any drama, which I feel
- 33:43Speaker 2: like nowadays, if you were making this movie, you'd start
- 33:46Speaker 2: with them having some kind of beef. You know, they
- 33:49Speaker 2: have a little playful tug of war a little bit,
- 33:53Speaker 2: but really they're just on each other's sides the whole time.
- 33:56Speaker 2: They're supportive. We made breakfast, you know, I mean it eggs,
- 34:00Speaker 2: blooney and what is it?
- 34:02Speaker 5: Blooney and boney and beans, you know what I mean.
- 34:11Speaker 5: And that's what they're gonna leave at the beginning. They're
- 34:13Speaker 5: leaving together. They're gonna do something together. It's not like
- 34:16Speaker 5: they're going their separate ways. Leaving together smokes and you
- 34:20Speaker 5: got the lie.
- 34:22Speaker 3: That's how we roll beautiful.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I mean, I'm just saying kind of lovely. In fact,
- 34:28Speaker 2: we remade this, I say it just having to be lovers.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it's Broken the Mountain part one, honestly exactly right before.
- 34:36Speaker 2: They get into the campground, they had to fight this
- 34:39Speaker 2: crazy worm monster, which really is representing people and their hatred.
- 34:45Speaker 2: I'm just kidding.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Isn't fighting the crazy worm monster basically a gay marriage?
- 34:51Speaker 3: Isn't that what we're doing?
- 34:55Speaker 2: Roby were taking this podcast podcast deep in.
- 34:58Speaker 5: The new Yearly are this is way deeper than that.
- 35:01Speaker 5: We're gonna get for tremors, that is for sure.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Man, Yes, the tremors. You feel our hearts breaking. These
- 35:11Speaker 3: people can't show you feel.
- 35:20Speaker 2: All right, it's a really great movie.
- 35:25Speaker 4: It's fun.
- 35:27Speaker 3: It's fun.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Yeah, hot, very hot, and we're okay with that when we.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Are absolutely right, I'm in favor. Well, I love it.
- 35:40Speaker 3: These are some hot takes. Let's go into our favorite
- 35:42Speaker 3: acting performance.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Let's name the dude.
- 35:46Speaker 6: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 35:49Speaker 6: know that, or his dude or duder or you know,
- 35:55Speaker 6: eldud a reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 35:58Speaker 3: All right, who wants to go first to the dude scared,
- 36:02Speaker 3: I mean all the start because.
- 36:05Speaker 5: I don't have a ton but it's fred Ward for me,
- 36:08Speaker 5: nice and just I've like always loved him me too,
- 36:13Speaker 5: But I looking at I don't really know why. I'm
- 36:17Speaker 5: just looking through his IMDb and I've seen like a
- 36:20Speaker 5: handful of his films.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Like.
- 36:24Speaker 5: Yeah, like I don't know if he's ever really been
- 36:26Speaker 5: in like he's been in a couple like Oscar nominated films,
- 36:29Speaker 5: but certainly never. I mean, he's the definition of a
- 36:31Speaker 5: character actor. But there's just something about him. I think
- 36:34Speaker 5: everybody just loves him. He crushes every role he does.
- 36:38Speaker 5: I mean I can think of Naked gunn thirty three
- 36:41Speaker 5: and a third, you know, Yeah, these little roles that
- 36:44Speaker 5: he comes into in like movies that you love as
- 36:47Speaker 5: a kid, and he.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Just I don't know, he just crushed it.
- 36:50Speaker 5: But there's kind of no rhyme or reason to it, right,
- 36:54Speaker 5: But I just love him and I think he crushes
- 36:56Speaker 5: his role.
- 36:57Speaker 3: Yeah, he's great, also weird. In two other movies, he
- 37:00Speaker 3: plays Earl, which I think is pretty fun. Yeah, because
- 37:04Speaker 3: he's Earl in Sweet Home, Alabama, his other Oscar nominated performance,
- 37:08Speaker 3: and then he's in Road Trip as the dad. That
- 37:12Speaker 3: dad's name is Earl in there to fun, it's like.
- 37:16Speaker 4: He's also the dad and Joe Dirt too.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I forgot about them.
- 37:20Speaker 4: At the very end.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Anyway, he just kind of pops into these films.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I love that. That's a great pick. He's great, he's great.
- 37:31Speaker 2: We mean, my brother grew up with this movie that
- 37:34Speaker 2: no one has ever heard of ever. It's called Remo
- 37:36Speaker 2: Williams and it's it's Fred Ward is the lead. It's
- 37:41Speaker 2: kind of like they're almost trying to make like an
- 37:44Speaker 2: American James Bond Jason Bourne kind of a situation.
- 37:49Speaker 4: The adventure begins.
- 37:50Speaker 2: The crazy thing about this so the premises he's he's
- 37:54Speaker 2: a cop in this government agency, fakes his death and
- 37:58Speaker 2: basically he's gonna train him to be like a lethal weapon.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Basically cool, like a Jason Bourne. Right, But he gets
- 38:07Speaker 2: trained by this old Chinese man who is played by
- 38:11Speaker 2: Jewel Gray.
- 38:13Speaker 4: Oh wow, really wow?
- 38:16Speaker 2: Which has aged wonder that great? It's a different time.
- 38:20Speaker 2: It's tough, but Jewel Gray is wonderful in it. But
- 38:25Speaker 2: it's inappropriate.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, but I.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Will say it worth a watch.
- 38:31Speaker 4: It's very funny. Well, I'm gonna watch it. I saw
- 38:34Speaker 4: Wilfred Brimley's in it. Yeah enough for me.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he's you know, he's probably only like thirty, Like.
- 38:41Speaker 3: He looks like he's probably younger than that. Honestly, at
- 38:44Speaker 3: that point we're.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Talking about what he's forty, he's like fifty in Cocoon. Yeah,
- 38:51Speaker 2: he's younger than all those folks, like itoks like the
- 38:55Speaker 2: oldest one. Yeah, it's insane.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Every time I hear the Jason Bourne and I think
- 39:00Speaker 3: of that line in it where he's like, geez hard,
- 39:02Speaker 3: my friend's just born, and all I want is now
- 39:05Speaker 3: a clip of someone's saying Jesus hard in My Friend
- 39:07Speaker 3: willis Yeah.
- 39:12Speaker 2: So oh, I just started saying that I didn't go
- 39:14Speaker 2: with what we were sorrying about. I mean, I have
- 39:16Speaker 2: to go with fred Ward too, and I'll say more
- 39:18Speaker 2: about it. I don't think Kevin Bacon's that great in
- 39:21Speaker 2: this movie Plugged. I feel like he's trying really hard,
- 39:24Speaker 2: and I feel like he's in like a different film. Yeah,
- 39:28Speaker 2: and I don't. I've just never seen him do that
- 39:31Speaker 2: in any of his other movies. Even around this time.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I'm like, he's like kind of being goofy and weird,
- 39:38Speaker 2: and I don't really know why.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's interesting because there's a bunch of trivia about
- 39:43Speaker 3: this that I'll just cover now. He was apparently not
- 39:46Speaker 3: having a great time in life at this point, and
- 39:49Speaker 3: so maybe that's part of the reason it's weird, because
- 39:51Speaker 3: I'm kind of with you. I was like, like, I
- 39:54Speaker 3: couldn't get a gauge on what he was doing, and
- 39:56Speaker 3: he's always so good that I was a little eased
- 39:59Speaker 3: by it, you know.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he was fine, He's just he's yeah, he's just
- 40:04Speaker 2: really he's like really ratched it up and he's very
- 40:07Speaker 2: like cheesy, and I don't know, I don't know. I've
- 40:10Speaker 2: just never seen him doing any other movie.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, because he talked for a long time about
- 40:15Speaker 3: this being like the worst movie experience he ever had.
- 40:18Speaker 3: He thought it was his worst movie he's ever been in.
- 40:20Speaker 3: He was like just on that ole time. Yeah, and
- 40:24Speaker 3: now he loves it. But yeah, he was, you know,
- 40:28Speaker 3: was really against it for a long time. So maybe
- 40:30Speaker 3: he was just going through it or something. Yeah, but yeah, interesting.
- 40:35Speaker 5: Nice, Yeah, I'm with you, guys. Fred Ward was super
- 40:39Speaker 5: fun in this. I love that he's like older and wiser,
- 40:44Speaker 5: but he's like in the exact same.
- 40:46Speaker 4: Spot as Kevin Bacon.
- 40:47Speaker 5: But he's not like he's better than him in any way,
- 40:51Speaker 5: but he likes to act that way. Yeah, he just
- 40:55Speaker 5: likes bosting him around. But yeah, I really enjoyed him
- 40:59Speaker 5: a lot. I thought he was a lot of fun.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I do like that they don't give I already said
- 41:03Speaker 2: this one in the They don't really have any conflict
- 41:07Speaker 2: between them, right, Like they just let him just be,
- 41:10Speaker 2: which I'm totally fine with. It's like kind of just
- 41:13Speaker 2: I feel like, again today they would have jam that
- 41:16Speaker 2: in there, some kind of conflict.
- 41:19Speaker 4: We've probably done some sort of love triangle.
- 41:21Speaker 2: With for sure, he's they would have immediately encouraging him
- 41:25Speaker 2: to go.
- 41:26Speaker 5: Yeah, he clearly is the one that puts the code
- 41:29Speaker 5: on her when they're sleeping on the rock. Like fred
- 41:32Speaker 5: Ward's like, he's clearly like setting him up for success.
- 41:35Speaker 5: He's the perfect wing man fred Ward. But it's like
- 41:41Speaker 5: fred Ward's not with anybody. Why wasn't he going for it?
- 41:44Speaker 3: It's not about it, you know how.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Valentine.
- 41:48Speaker 3: He's trying to help the throttle.
- 41:51Speaker 4: That's all makes a lot of sense.
- 41:57Speaker 2: That is going to register on the seismic graph. Yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 2: it is interesting.
- 42:01Speaker 3: You're right, because if they made this today, they'd be like,
- 42:04Speaker 3: like one of them would have wanted to leave and
- 42:06Speaker 3: one wouldn't write or something like that, you know, like
- 42:09Speaker 3: or one of them would have got him fired from
- 42:11Speaker 3: a gig and they would have been you know, yeah,
- 42:14Speaker 3: that's a super good point. They were just like, Yeah,
- 42:17Speaker 3: these guys are just buddies. I don't know, I like it.
- 42:19Speaker 2: They're just cool, just like get to the monsters, let's go, and.
- 42:22Speaker 3: They like fight a little bit, but it's more like.
- 42:25Speaker 2: It's like fun nickering.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just like clickering exactly.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Said when we were watching the other it's like they're
- 42:30Speaker 2: like a married couple.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, they're kind of like the grumpy old man vibe,
- 42:36Speaker 3: you know, exactly. Well, I wasn't expecting this. This is
- 42:40Speaker 3: a clean sweep for the dude here because I also
- 42:43Speaker 3: picked fred Ward for all the same reasons. I think
- 42:46Speaker 3: he's really great. I love that he's supportive of him
- 42:51Speaker 3: and yeah, I don't know. I just thought he was
- 42:53Speaker 3: charming in this elected a lot, and he just seems
- 42:56Speaker 3: like the less brash version of Kevin Bacon this movie,
- 43:01Speaker 3: which is kind of fun.
- 43:03Speaker 4: Nice. Let's talk about some of the supporting rest in peace.
- 43:08Speaker 5: In peace, we lost them, huh a couple of years ago.
- 43:12Speaker 3: I didn't know that.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Nice Get out there and watch Remo Williams there. Yeah,
- 43:17Speaker 2: and Joel Gray is extremely racist performance, which I believe
- 43:20Speaker 2: was nominated for an Oscar for.
- 43:23Speaker 5: Is that best makes make up, not acting macpers.
- 43:28Speaker 2: So shame on them too.
- 43:29Speaker 5: But give it a watch a watch, Let's talk about
- 43:32Speaker 5: some of the supporting roles. Let's go to the Tucci Waki.
- 43:39Speaker 4: All right, so we got for t seems easy.
- 43:42Speaker 2: This feels like a clean sweep too.
- 43:45Speaker 5: We going, Michael Gross, I'm just gonna make them a
- 43:49Speaker 5: couple of.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Had I had and Reba McIntire, You.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Got it's that movie.
- 43:58Speaker 2: It really is.
- 43:59Speaker 5: Almost picked them for the dude because it's this is
- 44:02Speaker 5: what I think about. I'll show Benny I got in
- 44:06Speaker 5: my notes them. Every scene they're in together, they crush it.
- 44:14Speaker 5: They're a great couple, very well written couple. And we'll
- 44:18Speaker 5: get to in quotes. But Michael Gross has all the
- 44:21Speaker 5: best quotes in this movie.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Yeah he does.
- 44:25Speaker 4: And it's Reba's first feature film.
- 44:28Speaker 3: She's wonderful in it too.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Yeah, she's great. She really is great, especially for a
- 44:34Speaker 2: first off, Like, I mean, Kevin Bacon's way over acting
- 44:39Speaker 2: over her. She's she's believable as hell.
- 44:42Speaker 4: Yeah, agreed.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Also, if anyone swears we should be saying, pardon my.
- 44:47Speaker 3: French, I'll throw that over the top. I like it.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Part my French. That's Remo Williams.
- 44:56Speaker 5: Nice, Benny, did you have that as well?
- 45:02Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean they basically steal the movie. I mean, agreed,
- 45:06Speaker 2: they're the best part of the movie.
- 45:08Speaker 5: Yeah, they made the movie for me as well.
- 45:11Speaker 2: And and and like mutes or whoever, just like it's
- 45:15Speaker 2: such a great there's such great characters written in that
- 45:18Speaker 2: they're kind of doomsday preppers. And yes, they have the
- 45:21Speaker 2: most the most realistic reason to be out here. Yeah. Right,
- 45:26Speaker 2: And it's total justification for why we just introduced it
- 45:30Speaker 2: part of my front, part of my friendship weapons into
- 45:33Speaker 2: the movie. Yeah, yeah, we can actually fight these things
- 45:36Speaker 2: because the Terminator two style underground bunker full of weapons,
- 45:40Speaker 2: which is amazing.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Yeah, perfect.
- 45:42Speaker 2: We never see that in the movie.
- 45:43Speaker 4: It's like, yeah, yeah, what are we doing? What are
- 45:47Speaker 4: we doing?
- 45:47Speaker 2: Yeah, they're the best.
- 45:50Speaker 3: I think the weapons keep getting bigger and bigger too.
- 45:52Speaker 3: That's the movies go on, which is great.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Yeah. That elephant gun is so funny.
- 45:59Speaker 3: It's the best.
- 46:00Speaker 4: That's so great.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Cartridges are giant.
- 46:04Speaker 5: I'm not a I'm not a gun expert at all,
- 46:07Speaker 5: but I don't think he's holding it right.
- 46:09Speaker 4: It's it's like under his shoulder.
- 46:13Speaker 3: That's not what you.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Want to do research for this film.
- 46:16Speaker 4: I don't know if you want to put that on
- 46:18Speaker 4: your shoulder again.
- 46:21Speaker 5: With that gun. You don't, but I don't know. I
- 46:22Speaker 5: also don't know how you hold onto it then.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Right, It doesn't feel like the shoulder is gonna stay
- 46:28Speaker 2: where right?
- 46:29Speaker 3: It's yeah, boy, yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 5: One hundred percent those two for sure. You want to
- 46:39Speaker 5: talk about some of these other actors.
- 46:41Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, who do you?
- 46:45Speaker 2: Uh?
- 46:46Speaker 3: Well? I like to Oh, I went away from my
- 46:49Speaker 3: screen a Finn Carter. I thought she was pretty good
- 46:52Speaker 3: in this, like kind of nerdy, you know, just the
- 46:56Speaker 3: fun part. Also, I love when they like patching up
- 47:01Speaker 3: her legs after she gets the barb wire and stuff.
- 47:04Speaker 3: She has the hairiest legs of all time, and I
- 47:08Speaker 3: I can't listen. I don't find that to be a
- 47:11Speaker 3: big deal, Like, I don't care about that. There's no
- 47:15Speaker 3: damn way they're letting that happen in a movie today
- 47:19Speaker 3: without mentioning it like there's zero chance, and.
- 47:22Speaker 2: I was actually I would say I would say today,
- 47:25Speaker 2: maybe they are if we go back like five years
- 47:28Speaker 2: and there's like a ten year window your window. They're
- 47:31Speaker 2: not saying they're gonna mention.
- 47:33Speaker 3: It, like I'm a feminist so I can do everything
- 47:37Speaker 3: you can do or something, you know, Like, I think
- 47:38Speaker 3: it's realistic.
- 47:39Speaker 4: She's out the desert.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Out in the middle of nowhere, totally agree theology, yes,
- 47:47Speaker 3: from a movie and not allude to it. Yeah, yeah,
- 47:51Speaker 3: I just think that's wild. Are I think that's wild
- 47:53Speaker 3: because I I've long had the like I couldn't ever
- 47:57Speaker 3: care less about that, Like I don't, especially if we're
- 48:01Speaker 3: in a chance where something could happen. I don't care what's.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Especially in that time period. You're right, it is. It
- 48:06Speaker 2: is amazing that they was such a realistic choice there.
- 48:09Speaker 3: I loved it. I thought that was really fun. But
- 48:12Speaker 3: I thought she wasn't given a ton to do in
- 48:15Speaker 3: this movie, honestly, but she was pretty good in it.
- 48:18Speaker 3: I thought she was charming, she was like goofy. She
- 48:21Speaker 3: was also capable, which a lot of movies from this
- 48:23Speaker 3: time frame don't have.
- 48:25Speaker 4: The lady being, you know, champion.
- 48:30Speaker 3: She really killed it, so but yeah, I thought she
- 48:34Speaker 3: did a good job, and I don't think I ever
- 48:37Speaker 3: really saw her in anything. Again, the conversation about the best,
- 48:44Speaker 3: it's for sure my favorite scene. So it's gonna go there.
- 48:49Speaker 5: But yeah, that's why I think I wanted to give
- 48:52Speaker 5: a shout out to Victor Wong.
- 48:55Speaker 4: Plays Walter or three Three Ninjas.
- 49:04Speaker 3: Part of my life.
- 49:07Speaker 5: El Yeah, I would love to rewatch Three Ninches because
- 49:12Speaker 5: I bet it's just it's gonna be be terrible just
- 49:18Speaker 5: to see them in the theater, Like, oh my god.
- 49:21Speaker 2: I can't even think of a comp right now. What
- 49:23Speaker 2: I would be that excited about. I don't know.
- 49:25Speaker 3: I didn't even get mad when people called me Tom
- 49:28Speaker 3: Tum forever after that movie. I love it.
- 49:32Speaker 2: I finally got rid of truffle Shuffle.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Tom Tom City Bro. I loved Three Ninjas.
- 49:41Speaker 4: That was good, but the best.
- 49:44Speaker 3: I love that guy Victor Wong. I forgot that he
- 49:47Speaker 3: gets murdered in this movie.
- 49:50Speaker 4: For sure does too.
- 49:54Speaker 5: He's got the like bloody nose before the thing, Uh
- 49:57Speaker 5: it gets him and that's always weird me up.
- 50:01Speaker 2: Since it coming.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that was unrelated.
- 50:05Speaker 2: The makeup team was busy putting hairs into uh, you know,
- 50:09Speaker 2: Finn's legs.
- 50:11Speaker 3: This is actually where we learned. This is where we
- 50:13Speaker 3: learned the grabloids only kill people if they're already ill.
- 50:17Speaker 3: So it's actually they're the good guys there people. Yeah,
- 50:25Speaker 3: it is we who are the monsters you see?
- 50:29Speaker 2: So you're seeing disease.
- 50:31Speaker 4: Yeah, we're having fun. Benny, your other girl from Jurassic Park.
- 50:46Speaker 4: It's Melvin. Melvin.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Melvin almost steals the film.
- 50:51Speaker 4: Melvin's pretty great.
- 50:52Speaker 3: What's that? Bobby Jacoby?
- 50:55Speaker 2: Thank did his IMDb taper off after this one a
- 51:00Speaker 2: little bit?
- 51:00Speaker 3: It?
- 51:00Speaker 4: Did? He has a picture? Yeah? Yeah, I said, I
- 51:05Speaker 4: said he did have a picture.
- 51:06Speaker 5: But he actually does have more credits than I would
- 51:08Speaker 5: have thought with someone with no picture, Like he did
- 51:10Speaker 5: do stuff but.
- 51:11Speaker 3: E five credits.
- 51:14Speaker 4: He did a lot of like.
- 51:15Speaker 5: One off episodes and TV shows. But of course, you know,
- 51:19Speaker 5: you see his work in this film.
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yeah, tell you what, I'm sorry, was your client Melvin?
- 51:29Speaker 3: You're hired? Wow?
- 51:30Speaker 2: Wow, he's not.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Right at all for this, but we would like to
- 51:35Speaker 3: hire a lot of one episodes for him in various
- 51:39Speaker 3: TV shows over the years. Oh sure, sure, good brand man.
- 51:43Speaker 3: But he's been in a million of them. Anyway, I
- 51:46Speaker 3: like Melvin. I also do like that Ariana Richards though
- 51:49Speaker 3: the the Jurassic Park.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Yeah, she's great in Durassic Parks. Yeah, she's got like
- 51:58Speaker 4: five lines.
- 51:58Speaker 5: But she's in like one of the sequels, one of
- 52:01Speaker 5: the seventh sequels.
- 52:03Speaker 4: Really like all grown up. Yeah, she's like.
- 52:05Speaker 5: Maybe like in the fifth one or something.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Watch every one of those dumb movies. I can't wait.
- 52:13Speaker 5: You know who's in every single one. It's Michael Michael Gross.
- 52:18Speaker 4: Yeah. Gross.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Just he just did Family Ties and everything Tremors.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Which is so amazing even do the TV shows.
- 52:29Speaker 3: To god, that's a career I can get behind.
- 52:31Speaker 5: I like he's making that Tremor's money making.
- 52:40Speaker 4: That's good.
- 52:41Speaker 2: I love that they do do a good job of
- 52:44Speaker 2: setting up this little group, though with like no dialogue.
- 52:48Speaker 3: I mean right, yeah, totally.
- 52:51Speaker 2: This little town and everyone's relationship. We're saying they sort
- 52:56Speaker 2: of short change Nestor both on his character name and
- 53:00Speaker 2: his story. But that's you.
- 53:02Speaker 5: I'll get to him, so I needed more and nest
- 53:05Speaker 5: though you know we didn't.
- 53:07Speaker 4: I'll get to him, and I'll get to him.
- 53:09Speaker 2: In best quote, that type of the script with Nestor.
- 53:15Speaker 3: That's that's fine, don't worry about it. That's pretty much
- 53:19Speaker 3: everybody in the movie though.
- 53:21Speaker 5: Honestly cool, you guys. Let's go and talk about our
- 53:23Speaker 5: favorite scene. Let's choose the Dingus.
- 53:27Speaker 4: Sons is quite simple, really, dingus Dingus.
- 53:31Speaker 3: I can talk about my dingus all night long. Who
- 53:34Speaker 3: wants to start with the pole vaulting scene.
- 53:38Speaker 2: We'll start with this film. When they're trapped on a
- 53:43Speaker 2: rock and don't know where to go, there happens to
- 53:48Speaker 2: be a perfect lead, straight poles next to.
- 53:51Speaker 3: It, no woods, and nobody knows like you guys.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Ever pull vaulted like we've all pulled vaulted, perfect solution.
- 54:04Speaker 3: I love it.
- 54:04Speaker 4: Off we go, It's amazing.
- 54:08Speaker 2: No one asked one question on set. I love this.
- 54:12Speaker 4: I just love that every rock is like perfectly.
- 54:16Speaker 3: They're all seven and a half feet away from each other,
- 54:18Speaker 3: so exact.
- 54:19Speaker 4: Nice. Yeah.
- 54:20Speaker 5: Well, I can't remember exactly what plays out, but it's
- 54:22Speaker 5: like the two of the two guys are are are
- 54:24Speaker 5: bitchating each other about how to do it, and then
- 54:26Speaker 5: she's just like, these guys are just idiots.
- 54:28Speaker 4: I know what to do. I'll walk over to this
- 54:30Speaker 4: pile of perfect poles. These no no, what are you
- 54:42Speaker 4: talking about?
- 54:43Speaker 2: Never have so good Kevin Bakin's characters that never even
- 54:47Speaker 2: went to school in school.
- 54:49Speaker 5: Ever, And the truck is just perfectly placed by the
- 54:54Speaker 5: rock as well.
- 54:56Speaker 4: Yeah it worked out. It was convenient.
- 54:58Speaker 3: She's smart enough to put the keys her mouth first.
- 55:01Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Rob is a.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Resources resources, full of resource.
- 55:13Speaker 3: I love that scene so much. It's so good, so
- 55:15Speaker 3: good to me. That's where we switch from like horror
- 55:20Speaker 3: film to like it's we're driving a.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Nice time now.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Okay, it's true.
- 55:24Speaker 4: That is the Swiss right there.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I tell you what. That's also in the score
- 55:28Speaker 2: kicks in a little bit too, and I was like, yo,
- 55:30Speaker 2: I'm a good time.
- 55:31Speaker 5: Yeah, good time for me.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Yeah, we're having a fun time.
- 55:38Speaker 2: Monsterous.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Fred Ward's like all into it too. He's like yeah,
- 55:42Speaker 4: I'll yeah, well I'll get you a pull too, dude.
- 55:45Speaker 2: There's about forty seven yeehaws in this in this film,
- 55:48Speaker 2: and there needs to be about thirteen.
- 55:50Speaker 3: But they were like, you know what, nah, we need
- 55:53Speaker 3: them all, every single one.
- 55:56Speaker 2: Maybe there needed to be eighty. Maybe that's I love it.
- 55:59Speaker 5: There are a lot of like celebratory like.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Yeah, best celebration is just a new category for this
- 56:09Speaker 2: amount of celebration. There's so many and they just give
- 56:13Speaker 2: more and more. Insane.
- 56:14Speaker 5: Yeah, they keep going like further and further. Yeah, way,
- 56:20Speaker 5: just like, wow, we are celebrating.
- 56:23Speaker 3: Even after we learn the noise is not a great thing. Yea,
- 56:27Speaker 3: monsters like we might die in a second. I'm gonna
- 56:31Speaker 3: be happy now.
- 56:33Speaker 2: It's true. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward got their little
- 56:36Speaker 2: bro five every time.
- 56:37Speaker 3: So hell yeah, it's awesome. Oh so good? Uh gag,
- 56:44Speaker 3: what do you got for?
- 56:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't top that.
- 56:49Speaker 5: My favorite scene is the bunker scene, but particularly leading
- 56:53Speaker 5: up to it. I love when this is the real answer,
- 56:56Speaker 5: when they're when they're radioing into each other and then
- 57:00Speaker 5: you know, Burt and Heather still don't know exactly what's
- 57:02Speaker 5: going on, and then the grab By blasts through and
- 57:06Speaker 5: what is what is Oh my god, oh god, almighty
- 57:14Speaker 5: radio And then you know it cuts back to the
- 57:16Speaker 5: town and they're all, you know, straught, and then you
- 57:18Speaker 5: just hear the gunfight, the gunfire and going off in
- 57:21Speaker 5: the distance, and then they're like their ears perk up,
- 57:24Speaker 5: like we know what's going on fighting and then and
- 57:27Speaker 5: that leads into that whole scene, which is just the
- 57:30Speaker 5: clearly the best scene in the movie real the reveal
- 57:33Speaker 5: of the wall as they keep back out.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Came into the wrong basically, Yeah, the.
- 57:41Speaker 3: Damn rec room. That's the best quote by car I
- 57:46Speaker 3: was going to miss it so we could say it
- 57:48Speaker 3: right later. You know that My thing, that's for sure.
- 57:52Speaker 5: I was doing it was Yeah, it's that scene. I
- 57:58Speaker 5: didn't even write anything else down because that it's perfect.
- 58:01Speaker 5: It's a perfect scene. Yeah, this is this is well,
- 58:08Speaker 5: it needed to be sad, So I'm glad that we
- 58:10Speaker 5: talked about it.
- 58:11Speaker 3: Man, sure it would be so loud to shoot that
- 58:14Speaker 3: many guns in that tiny.
- 58:17Speaker 4: We were talking about that blow out.
- 58:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I kind of always love that the station wagon
- 58:32Speaker 5: getting like pulled under the ground and then they like
- 58:34Speaker 5: see the headlights later.
- 58:37Speaker 4: I always thought that was cool.
- 58:38Speaker 2: I mean, we could talk about the special effects are
- 58:41Speaker 2: pretty sweet. I mean, yeah, for practical, all the practical
- 58:47Speaker 2: things I do, that's one of the ripple. The ripple
- 58:50Speaker 2: effect on the boards coming up as they're running into
- 58:53Speaker 2: the store is really amazing.
- 58:55Speaker 3: That's the shot I think with this movie for whatever reason,
- 58:58Speaker 3: all the time, and I wrote it down as a
- 58:59Speaker 3: not will mention. I love that, like the effectiveness of
- 59:03Speaker 3: that and then the fence poles, Like, that's such a
- 59:06Speaker 3: good device that they use a couple of times really
- 59:08Speaker 3: effectively in this movie. I like it a lot.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Even the people getting sucked down is impressive.
- 59:14Speaker 3: Yeah, really cool.
- 59:15Speaker 5: And the horse getting dragged down by that they really
- 59:20Speaker 5: did that. I mean, I mean, obviously they had a
- 59:23Speaker 5: trained horse. They just wrapped these things around it, but yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 5: you know they really got a horse to do that.
- 59:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty wild.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Yeah. All the car stuff looks great. I mean, yeah,
- 59:35Speaker 2: their effects are amazing.
- 59:37Speaker 4: Agreed.
- 59:38Speaker 3: I like that.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Do we know what the budget was this?
- 59:41Speaker 5: I saw it was eleven million.
- 59:43Speaker 2: That is cheap.
- 59:45Speaker 4: And they built that whole town too.
- 59:47Speaker 3: Wow, that's why that's right. And then they just like
- 59:50Speaker 3: tore down right away. I guess that's probably what they
- 59:52Speaker 3: always do, and that's what you do.
- 59:55Speaker 5: It's a very wasteful industry.
- 59:59Speaker 3: We're gonna need a their town. I love all that.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: I don't I feel like I don't even have another.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: Scene to say.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: It's cool when they're when they're going out on the
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: big whatever you call that excavator thing, having chase, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: totally that's cool, and having to go off the cliff
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: like that was, Uh, that was pretty I like.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: The sequence too, when they're all kind of separated and
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: they're communicating between the.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: Roofs roof and yeah, that is cool.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: And you know, I love when when they got their
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: little plan going and then I'm convinced did Michael Bay
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: steal this for Armageddon? When when Kevin Bacon when fred
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: Ward's about to go and they came kept baking. It's
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: some egos.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Harry, Yeah, Harry and aj move.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: Yeah, good call.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Michael Bay was like, I got this idea my favorite
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: films in nineteen ninety.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: This is what Harry's going to save the day.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: I had written down just Walter buying like the snake
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: tongue off of them for fifteen dollars. I just love
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: this fun like, I like the haggling and then it
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: kinds of him making money off of it.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: It's like just a fun just a fun little joke
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: in there.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: Yeah. I do like that a lot. That's fun.
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: One step ahead.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: Also, that light pole was when we're still in the
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: horror movie portion, the like guy sitting at the top
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: of the the like electrical p Yeah, that's pretty scary.
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: That's kind of fun.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: It was scary.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: I like that scene. It was cool. They built a
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: lot of suspense early on with those couple of scenes
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: escalate and also, I think, Benny you said it, this
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: movie really goes zero to one hundred, like it's you know,
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: a little fun talking about breakfast and falling out of
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: the truck, and then it's like people are dying in
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: me big.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: I mean it to because they were just like, we're
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: gonna make this an hour forty a minute over, got
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: great and we gotta go out.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm there for it big time.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: Well I well we can all agree. Then it is
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: the pole vaulting scene and no other scene.
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: Movie.
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: Yeah, basically.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: The wreck room scene with all the guns and the
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: elephant gun madness and funnest fun times. Let's go talk
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: about it. These quotes. Now, it's time to show me
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: the money.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: The money show me.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: Who wants to start with some quotes?
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: Well, I'll just start with a non quote. Uh, bird's
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: license plate is Ouzzi for you.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: I didn't see that. No, that's fun.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: You know what, two things. That's why I like you.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: I'm gonna start quotes with a non quote.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I love that. I love that.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: Live on the Edge that's why we call them to
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: renegade everyone.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: You're gonna get a roll and who wants to go?
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: I love it.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: What happened to the oozy? Where did that go? The
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: machine gun in your hand? You know, in the eighties
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: and in the nineties, what a fun movie weapon. And
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: now I just haven't really got him anymore.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: Isn't it?
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: It really is I've been missing effective.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: I think his last use was true lies.
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Yes, well, they were all like the first thing, I thought, we've.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Reached the high watermark?
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: What do we need to use this for anymore? You know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: They're like, all right, we got to find.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: A different answered my own question.
- 1:03:28Speaker 4: All right, moving on?
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: Actually here all I got one about what I was
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: gonna say about Nestor earlier. I just love when they're
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: in Walter's shop.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: And he's beat all cocky.
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: He's like, I know, it'll use found five pounds pick axe,
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: and then you know you can't do that, and a
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: couple like a middle Lady's like.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: No, no, no, I'll use a chainsaw. That's what I'll use.
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: And it's like this, this dude's part of my friend dad.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: You know, this dude's getting sucked their a tire for sure.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: I was like, bro they in the ground, I'm sure
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: this four and a half inches will be plenty of clearance,
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: titled he We're doing it three times? What's happening?
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Friends?
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: That's good. This guy is getting sucked through a tire
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: for sure. That's amazing.
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: That's pretty great. I love that.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: Go ahead, go aheads you guys.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, you know broke into the wrong goddamn
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: wreck room, didn't you? Your bastard is for sure. The
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: quote of the movie really great.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Pretty much everything he says is pretty Yah.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: What kind of fuses that? Canon? Fuse? What the hell
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: do you use it for? My cannon?
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Canon?
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: My cannon? I mean, it's much can it funny? I
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: loved that line so much my cannon? Okay?
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: Yeah, man, I didn't write down a whole bunch. I'm
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: gonna be honest.
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Anybody else anything here else?
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: I got my favorite bert One when they're on the
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: rock at the end and he's like something about starvation,
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: and he's like, I know what I'm gonna do. Take
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: one of these walk right out there with the fuse
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: lit and let them take me down. Boom boom, And
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: then was just like, good lord, honey.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: Another good bird one.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: He's trying to get Melvin going.
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: You'll Melvin, this will make him think twice when he
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: hands on the gun.
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: Yeah, he's gotta get smile.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: And say, Melvin instantly, just start shooting it at nothing.
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: Obviously there's no bullets in it. But yeah, I love that.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: I do like one quote I do like and I
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: can't even think of it right now. When he says
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: he says, you always better step on it, says a man. Sorry,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: that makes for a great podcast.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: That's all right. I love what it's like. We got
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: that mother humper and then he's like Roger that Bert
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: and congratulations, but be advised there are two more repeat
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: two more mother humpers.
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: I love pretty great.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: I also love and Gage looked into this because I
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: was saying, it's funny that they use pardon my French
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: so much, Yeah, because they don't really swear. They're like
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: using very easygoing words. But didn't you say.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: Yeah, because you probably saw us and try it that
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: it was originally are and they cut a bunch of
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: the swear words out to make a PG.
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: Thirteen and you can really tell.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: And a couple of them are just dubbed over, you know,
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: like we've seen ane other movies like Galaxy Quest does
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: that too, but you can tell. I think Mother Humpers
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: was one of them.
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: But at the very end it was can you fly?
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: You know, it's can you fly? Sucker?
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: And that was obviously yeah, yeah, right right right? What
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: what was it?
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: Pardon my French? Which is funny because earlier they're like,
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: we killed it, we killed it, Pardon my French? Gave
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: him that one.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: You get your one.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Pardon my French? There so good. Well, I'm a victim
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: of circumstance. I thought you called it your pecker. That
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: was pretty good. I liked that. I also loved this line.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: I think it was fred Ward. Is that the guy's name, Yeah,
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: fred Ward. I think he's the one that said it.
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: But when he goes they're talking about where these you know,
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: where these creatures came from, and they're like, I vote
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: for outer space.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: No way.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: These were local boys that for some reason cracked me
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: up to know. And I really had fun with that line.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: That's funny. Is that like a Roswell joke?
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: I don't know, but I just love the no way
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: were these local boys. I also think it's great that
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: they're just I love movies that are just like, we're
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: not going to explain where these are from, and just
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: you know, like just move on.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: I think that's so great again ninety to an hour forty, Yeah.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: We have time for this.
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: We don't have time.
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: They probably get into that with the sea they do
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: in this. Like I said, I've only seen the second
- 1:08:26Speaker 5: they do. I think they've been around for thousands of
- 1:08:28Speaker 5: years and fred Ward's character does say, damn, I always
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: thought they were from outer space.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Yeah, that's funny. I like that.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: But yeah, they try and fail.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: I've never seen any of the sequels or awards in
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: the sequel too, he's in He's just in the second
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: one only. Yeah.
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: I think the third one is like a prequel and
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: like the eighteen hundreds or something.
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: I believe. Well, yes, a period tremors movie.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Let's serious.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Yea, oh my god, someone got so stuff and.
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: My and Michael Gross is in it like a different character.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: I thought you were part of my friend.
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: No, No, we should watch tomorrow.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: No, I think that four is that where the legend begins. Tomorrow.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I'm watching it when I get.
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: We're stopping the pot now later.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Back to perfection, right, now okay, yeah, okay, like views,
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: they all just bleed together for me, you know, That's
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: what I'm saying.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: It.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Actually, it took me a second when I saw that
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: the third one is called Back to Perfection.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: I was like, yeah.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: I was like, because they're like perfectly tuned killing machines.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: And I was like, no, name of town.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: Nope, genius, the name of the town. Got it?
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: In the second one, does he is? He like, so, earl,
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: where's Valve? He's like, you didn't work out. It didn't
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: work out. We're got another partner.
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: Think. They just say like he found himself a good
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: woman and him and Ronda got married. Yeah, he left.
- 1:10:10Speaker 5: They did get on People magazine though there's a cover
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: of People on his wall.
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: Is there? Why have I not explored these sequels.
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: To check them out?
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: Yeah, we all know what we're doing.
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: Okay, I guess we know what we're doing in January
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: of twenty twenty six, absolutely right here in these.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Seats, in these seats.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Talking about Back to Perfection. Well that little segue for
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: you hosts, come on.
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: Come on, this is yeah. I don't need anymore all.
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Yeah, sweet, Then let's go to Biggs Boom moments. Well,
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: I don't think he cried in this movie, Bud. I
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: hope you didn't cry in this movie. I got Walter's death,
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: No way, no chance. He cried seven times and face off,
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: I got that stick.
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: I'm going to say. I'm going to say I think
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: I think last moment, last moment, kiss.
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: Yiss. That was nice.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: That was a nice a little happy tear.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: No, none of these were true, but I do have one.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: I cried one time on a second way.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: Oh my god, he cried. It has to do it.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Everyone has to do with Heather and Burke. Right, you cried?
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Did you cry when the couple when her husband got killed?
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: The house building couple.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: It involved, it involves val and it's when all the
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: people come together and start making noise to save bal
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: as he's running out. And it was just a nice moment.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: I liked it. She kicks like the water and all
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: that stuff. And it wasn't a big cry. That's all
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: just no way you think I was like, oh, this
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: will make me look good if I say I cried
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: the tremors.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: We never we never assumed you're trying to make yourself
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: look good.
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: Job.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: That is shocking.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: Just you know what dude's never mind the cold sweeping
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: finger of judgment over here, no doubt. I'm with you,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: big guy. Feel your feelings, feel your friend deep.
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: They just supported me so much.
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: There, you just supported They love him.
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: They love him. That's great, they love him so much.
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: All right, let's go to some movie trivia now and
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: get away from this emotional film.
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Uh s. S.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: Wilson said that he got the idea for the film
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: while he was working for the US Navy in the
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: California Desert. While rest on a rock, he imagined what
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: it might be like if something underground kept him from
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: getting off that rock.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: He hadn't just watched Beetlejuice by chance.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: May yeah, maybe maybe a lot of films, a lot
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: of them. Uh, there's a big whole thing about Like
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: I said, Kevin Bacon thought this was like the worst
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: movie ever, and he was at the early time, but
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: he really liked it later.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: I mean, I will say now, like Gene Hackman was
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: convinced that Hoosier's was going to be a piece right now,
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: I can get behind Kevin Bacon being on this set
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: being like this, probably where is Gene Hackman over here?
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: I'm like, come on, bro, like it's a basketball movie.
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: What do you think is?
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: Yeah, but I can give Kevin Bacon a little break
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: here like this.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: Well, and like like I said, apparently apparently he was,
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: like I was super depressed and at a low point
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: in life kind of, so he was bitter about the
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: movie and everything at that point. So it wasn't just
- 1:13:58Speaker 3: this movie. But he is now said he doesn't watch
- 1:14:01Speaker 3: a lot of his films, but he has seen this
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: like dozens of times over the years, so he like
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: really enjoys it now and you know, looks back on
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: it ononly. So I just think that's fun. So this
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: was not a hit during its theatrical run, but it
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: became like a huge home video hit with the market,
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: and it tripled its original box office gross just with
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: VHS sales and rentals. And according to this note, here
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: was over sixteen million at the box office worldwide, so
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: it made you know, three times that just from rentals.
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: And well, I think that's why it's a big film
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: for all of us for sure, because I had it
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: on VHS.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: I know that.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And like we said, it was on TV all the.
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: Time, and like the early nine is right when the
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: VHS was going on.
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: Like they just blew up.
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I can picture that, that poster with the
- 1:15:04Speaker 5: Yeah it's so great.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Absolutely love it. That's what I should look for. I
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: would love to have that.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: That would be pressure.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Yeah. It just makes me. I feel like I'm in
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: the movie store. Yes, looking at that poster.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Absolutely. One idea by the special effects screw was for
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: the worms to have an outer shell. When above the dirt,
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: the shell would retract and reveal a slimier inner worm. However,
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: many production members started to giggle at the very phallic
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: resemblance for it, and it's thought it akin to a foreskin,
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: so it was changed to the big worms sprouting several
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: smaller worms from its mouth.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: That's probably the right move.
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think so.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: The gag at the beginning of the film where a
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: val misses a staple eight times when he's hammering, which
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: I had never noticed.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: We we were talking about that that I caught that
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: the other day on my own. We were dying, you know,
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: we we knew were working here.
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: Yeah right, yeah, we have a lot of carpenters here.
- 1:16:14Speaker 5: We were watching it after work and I'm like, and
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: I had watched the day fo Im watched this so funny.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: I loved it, and I was like, did he mean
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: to do that? Apparently was not scripted. It was kind
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: of a spontaneous idea, and fred Ward's reaction is genuine
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: when he's just like Spress.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Fred Ward didn't make a comment. Absolutely film like it.
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: Legit looks like it's the first time he's ever held
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: a hammer.
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: Supposed to be a handy man. Yeah, so great hand man.
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: He was not a good handyman, clearly, that's true.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: Test audiences loved the film, but would repeatedly chant kiss her,
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: kiss her at the end, So the studio paid for
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: reshoot featuring Val and Ronda kissing at the end.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Good call, Oh they didn't they didn't have.
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: Them apparently not. Apparently not, so let's see. They were
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: also forced to add a scene toward the beginning where
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: Ronda is unknowingly stalked by the Graboid as she heads
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: into her truck, and then the scene where old Fred
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: is killed. They originally wanted no hint of a monster,
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: so that people thought that it could be like a
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: serial killer, you know that they kind of allude to.
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: But the studio wanted to market it more as like
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: this monster movie kind of Vibe, so they had to
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: have some on screen deaths before the big reveal. So sure,
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: I thought that was interesting. That could have been kind
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: of some interesting takes on it. Michael Gross began filming
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: only one day after shooting the very last episode of
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: Family Ties, so that's pretty wild. Wow, no breaks, no breaks,
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: I love it. The various sounds that the Graboids made
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: have become pop to reuse in other films. They can
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: be heard in films like Predator Too, Starship Troopers, ants,
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: something called mosquitoes, eight legged freaks, a kongskull Island, and then.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: A bunch more it said, so interesting.
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: I thought that was interesting.
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know, a bunch of comedic horror movies.
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: Those are fun.
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, really good stuff. But the at thirty two
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: minutes in the film, the first like appearance of the
- 1:18:25Speaker 3: full size grabber is a miniature with a matte painting
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: of mountains behind it, and I just think that's always fun.
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: And I did not notice that. I didn't clock that happening,
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: So I thought that was cool. And then the final
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: like death from a fall from the cliff and then
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: the explosion and all that was also filmed in a
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: parking lot using miniatures, so I thought that was cool.
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: Fine, that is cool.
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: Yeah, they did a good job working them in because
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: they didn't look all that weird. I didn't think anyway.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: The original film ending to the film very different. Val
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: and Earle head out to Bixby, and Val doesn't hook
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: up with Rohnda, but it is implied that they might
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: in the future, and the two are looking for their
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: lighter and realize that Ronda still has it and they
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: turned to head back. So that's the end of the thing.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: But like we said, audiences didn't like that, but it
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: is available on the DVD if you want to see that.
- 1:19:24Speaker 4: All fun and let's.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: See, oh we we kind of alluded to this, but
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: when Chang is partially swallowed by the graboid and it
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: like swerves back and forth, it's almost identical to the
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: scene at the end of Jaws where Quinn slides in
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: the mouth of the giant shark. So yeah, good shout
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: on that. It's really really close. And I even saw
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: like a side by side with it, and I was like, oh, yeah,
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: it really did allude to that nicely. So yeah, I
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: love that, love it. That was all I had for
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: Trivia do anything wrap.
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: I saw.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: Almost all the actors were cast through open auditions, a
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: rare practice for studio films. There were offers, however, for
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: the role of Valentine the Key to Bill Paxton, Matthew Modine,
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: and Bruce Campbell, among others. No fun, but they went
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: with Kevin Bacon due to his star power.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that would have worked.
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: Him and Paxton would end up in Space together.
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: Just a few years later they would Hell yeah, which
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: is also having an anniversary this year.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Oh, hell yes, I can't wait to watch that.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: So good, so good.
- 1:20:40Speaker 5: That was all I had, though, Did you guys have
- 1:20:42Speaker 5: anything else?
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: He saw?
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: I did a little research today, Benny knows this.
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: I was.
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: I was curious as to who Melvin's parents were, and
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: I always thought I always thought that Nestor was his dad.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: Yeah, is he not?
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: I implied that he that he's his dad.
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: That I but so.
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: But something didn't seem right because they never say anything
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: and well a lot. So I googled it and apparently
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: there's a deleted scene where they talk about that Melvin's
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: parents constantly go to Las Vegas to gamble and they
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: just neglect him and leave him.
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: No wonder he sucks cool. Yeah, so his parents are
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: just in Vegas.
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: The slots part of my French idiot.
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: They just leave him back to be a piece part
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: of my French.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: Yeah. But we were like, it's just one of those Like, well, one,
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: the way they have it really makes it seem like
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: his dad, but it's unclear. But two they could have
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: easily done in one sentence.
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: Maybe you know, So who is nestor to Melvin? Then
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: nothing absolutely just to do what I figured out was
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: when he gets emotionally dies, I think that's the first
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: time he sees anyone die.
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: Yeah, because he doesn't see Walter dies, I think he's
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: in the ship. Yeah, he's outside, So I think he's
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: just shut up the ship.
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: Yes, yes, because I was because I was also joking
- 1:22:13Speaker 5: when fred Ward like it's like, hey, Melbourne, you want
- 1:22:16Speaker 5: to make a buck to like go off and distract
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: the grab boy, like you know, a minute after his
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: dad had died. That I was like, that doesn't really
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: make sounds pretty brutal.
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: That's why I was like, I need to google something.
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: Yet I don't know.
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: Has been so caring towards fal the whole time.
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: For no reason, but never thought that's a really good.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: Returns.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: Jesus, I love that. No real gallows why renegade, you guys?
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: He does his own reasons.
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: I love it. That's great.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: You got any vaccine questions?
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: Send him to Renegade, which it's basically a doctor.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: I don't do anything without asking this guy first. That's
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: all right, that's his own research. It's like Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: That's why I love him.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: I love them too much to compare him to Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: I know that. That's awful. Well, that's great. Well we
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: kind of already covered this one, but Judgment Day. Will
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: there be a sequel?
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: There's several seven seven, there's seven, and the last one
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: was made in twenty twenty. It was a Tremors Shrieker Island,
- 1:23:31Speaker 5: and Michael Gross has been in all of them. He
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: is now into his seventies, still rocking this role, which, yes,
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: pretty great.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: I love that.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: Actually, you can make the argument that Melvin got out
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: of this situation, moved to California, went to cal started
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: playing football, went to cal and became Aaron Rodgers.
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: Oh I like that. I like that. Also, Raised by
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: the Desert doesn't have a great relationship with his family
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: from what it sounds like. That's true.
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: That's true.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: Family interesting, spend a lot of time in the desert,
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: do and I wash it?
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Melvin could have a nice cannon on him. Who
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: knows who does arm his arm?
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: That we were talking about his grab boyd my bad.
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: I like it. I like it.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: It's thee over under that you will refer to yourself as.
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: The gotta go tangle with the grab oy. I'll be back.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Personal.
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: Don't tell me how to live my life.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: Get out of here, you.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: Get out of here. Well, do you guys want to
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: play a game?
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: Yes, sir, I made a starting five.
- 1:24:46Speaker 3: Love it.
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: You guys know how this works. We've done it a
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: few times. I'll just tell our listeners. I'm going to
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: name five favorite actors from a particular film. When you
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: know the film, you're going to ring in with your name.
- 1:24:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: If you get it wrong, no negative points, but you
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: won't be able to guess again for that movie. If
- 1:25:04Speaker 5: there are actors names remaining, you can guess those for
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: a point each another person can steal if you get
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: any of those names wrong. All of these films have
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: something in common. When you know the theme, you can
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: ring in at any time for a point.
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: Are you ready?
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: Okay, number one. The first actor's name is Mark Rolston.
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: The second name is Bill Paxton, who apparently was up
- 1:25:38Speaker 5: for Tremmors. The third name is Paul Riser. The fourth
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: name is Michael Bean.
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: Benny Benny Aliens.
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: Aliens is correct, and one more name remaining, Sojourney Weaver
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: Benny has two points. All right, okay, let's go to
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: the next one. The first name is Alice Braga.
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: The second name is Walton Goggins. Oh, number three tofer grace.
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: Number four?
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Oh, Adam, Adam, Predators.
