- 0:00But then if he sees you notice him, he gets kind of like startled.
- 0:06And then like sometimes that's when he'll disappear or like run away.
- 0:11The audacity.
- 0:12Oh I'm sorry, did I scare you?
- 0:14Yeah, my own house.
- 0:15So it's kind of like one of those ones like which one of you is the ghost, you know?
- 0:19I'm him.
- 0:21I feel confident.
- 0:24I don't need to phone a friend.
- 0:26Yeah.
- 0:27Final answer.
- 0:28You're fluffer.
- 0:35Hi, Caitlyn, you mother fluffer.
- 0:44Hi Cassie.
- 0:45Hi creepy people.
- 0:47Hello.
- 0:48I can see Caitlyn's whole face with both my eyes.
- 0:51It's insane.
- 0:52Yeah.
- 0:53Yeah, if you're not watching the video, we got new low profile mic stands.
- 0:59Yes.
- 1:00And we can see each other.
- 1:02I'm so excited.
- 1:03So excited.
- 1:04Yeah.
- 1:05I've never been more excited actually.
- 1:06I was so excited.
- 1:07So excited.
- 1:08Well, this is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where we chat about true crime, the paranormal and
- 1:16all things spooky in the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:22We're the PNW, if you're nasty.
- 1:25And we know y'all.
- 1:26So nasty.
- 1:27So nasty.
- 1:29We also do a tarot reading in every episode to give a little bit of deeper insight into our
- 1:35topic and have a little witchy fun.
- 1:37Yeah.
- 1:38So stick around if you want to have a little witchy fun with us.
- 1:40Did we talk about the board?
- 1:42We talk about that.
- 1:43I don't know if we officially talked about the roadcaster pro two.
- 1:47I can't remembe, but we got.
- 1:49Sponsor us.
- 1:50Or whatever, you know, like no big deal.
- 1:53Give us the new camera one for free.
- 1:55That would be awesome.
- 1:56That would be amazing.
- 1:58Yeah.
- 1:59So we were having issues recording with, you know, fancy mics recording into garage band,
- 2:05you know, free is great.
- 2:07Get ready to do it while you can.
- 2:09But it gets frustrating after a while when things aren't going right.
- 2:13So we needed one to just make our brains more sane.
- 2:18And she pretty.
- 2:20She is party.
- 2:21She's so party.
- 2:22Well, that's all I had.
- 2:25You're trying to stall.
- 2:26No, I'm just kind of like, I'm just still like a little bit like glamored by our, I am
- 2:32too.
- 2:33Our new stuff.
- 2:34I've just like settled in though.
- 2:35I just sat down and I'm like, yeah, this is light.
- 2:36This is how life should be.
- 2:37I'm happy as a clam over here.
- 2:40It's good timing.
- 2:41It's good timing.
- 2:42You know what else is good timing?
- 2:43Me getting rid of my severe fucking cystic acne before my whole face is like shown to
- 2:48you guys.
- 2:49That's why I've been hiding behind my mics and my pop filters.
- 2:53But now, you know, I have a couple of you probably see them, but I don't think so.
- 2:56Overall, I look better.
- 2:59If anyone's struggling with cystic acne, check your medications.
- 3:03Really common side effect.
- 3:04Yeah.
- 3:05Really common side effect for anti-depressants, certain anti-depressant medications.
- 3:10So real bummer.
- 3:12Yeah, you know, but you know, having acne on your face makes you even more depressed
- 3:18than the pill helps.
- 3:19So I would argue.
- 3:21I would argue.
- 3:22Yeah.
- 3:23That's sort of like if you, there's other anti-depressant or I mean, they're used for a lot of
- 3:28other applications, but there's, it's the class of medications called SSRIs where it
- 3:35affects like your sex drive.
- 3:38Oh.
- 3:39Essentially like it'll lower your libido, but it also, and this is crazy.
- 3:44It can actually like a very commonly reported side effect of it is that like you actually
- 3:49have difficulty in climaxing.
- 3:52Oh no.
- 3:54Yeah.
- 3:55And it's like, okay, so I'm not depressed, but I'm like, how does that make sense?
- 4:00You need that to not be depressed too.
- 4:02So like, yeah, I feel like that's kind of a bummer.
- 4:05Like that's a terrible side effect.
- 4:08Yeah.
- 4:10Sometimes I like to start things off with dad jokes and this is in fact one of those times.
- 4:16Okay.
- 4:17This is actual dad joke material from an actual dad, my dad.
- 4:22Oh boy.
- 4:23Who taught me all I know about dad jokes.
- 4:27All right.
- 4:28So my dad was telling me about some spooky things that happened to him and he like, he's
- 4:33in the woods a lot.
- 4:34He lives around the woods.
- 4:35So I asked him if he has ever seen a not dear.
- 4:39And if you don't know what a not dear is, we've kind of talked about it a little bit before
- 4:43with Cristina, I think.
- 4:44Yeah.
- 4:45Sounds familiar, but it's just like a deer that there's just like something off about it.
- 4:51Okay.
- 4:52Okay.
- 4:53That's kind of what I remembered.
- 4:54Like it like moves weird.
- 4:55Yeah.
- 4:56It'll like stand and walk on two legs or it'll like have like a face that kind of looks
- 4:59human.
- 5:00It's just like not right.
- 5:01It's exactly what it sounds like.
- 5:03It's like a deer, but it's like not.
- 5:06So he says to me, I see one.
- 5:09Every day, every single day, when I go out into the woods and there's not a deer there.
- 5:16Oh my god.
- 5:17I fucking walked straight into that dad joke.
- 5:22Yeah.
- 5:23I did that to my own self, but that was gold.
- 5:26Thank you, dad.
- 5:27Oh, man.
- 5:28I'm actually kind of annoyed that I didn't really see that coming.
- 5:33I didn't let the time either.
- 5:35I know.
- 5:36I was like, wait a minute.
- 5:38You know what those are.
- 5:41You've seen a not deer.
- 5:42Like you have to tell me.
- 5:43And then he pulls that one over on me.
- 5:46And I was like, that was good.
- 5:48That was good.
- 5:49Man, props to you, dad.
- 5:51Yeah.
- 5:52Thanks.
- 5:53Thanks, dad.
- 5:54Thanks.
- 5:55So I thought that was kind of, you know, fall related and fun to start with before I scare
- 6:00the crap out of you.
- 6:02Okay.
- 6:03I feel like I'm building up a tolerance though.
- 6:06I hope so.
- 6:07I mean, I have to be because we just did the ghost tour and that is true.
- 6:12You didn't really freak out.
- 6:14Yeah.
- 6:15I mean, I did part of the time that you weren't really aware of.
- 6:20Yeah.
- 6:21I don't know that Chris really caught it on any of our recording stuff, but I, because I intentionally
- 6:28I was just saying it to him because I was like, oh my gosh, I don't want to be like every
- 6:32time something happens, be like, oh, you know, like it's too much.
- 6:37No, it's not.
- 6:38It's never enough.
- 6:40I don't know that I just was like, yeah, so it's funny that you should say that because I
- 6:44was seeing that and then you started talking about it like five minutes later.
- 6:48I don't want to give anything away.
- 6:50I mean, this comes out after that.
- 6:52So they'll have heard, but we haven't reported about it yet with us.
- 6:55I kind of know what you mean, but I haven't heard the whole story yet.
- 6:58So yeah, I'm being intentionally big.
- 7:01Yeah.
- 7:02But you all, you all know by then.
- 7:04Yeah.
- 7:05Yeah.
- 7:06Yeah.
- 7:07Wow.
- 7:08Wow.
- 7:09Okay.
- 7:10So before we officially start the story, I used another podcast called Strange for Milliers
- 7:15for most of my research because this is mainly where these stories that I'm focusing on are.
- 7:21Ooh.
- 7:22They're collecting all of these stories and working on speculations about it and even riding
- 7:27a book.
- 7:28Ooh.
- 7:29Ooh.
- 7:30And so I went through and I listened to, there's probably ten episodes.
- 7:35With like multiple different stories.
- 7:38I went through and listened to all of them and like took notes about it and they are so
- 7:44interesting.
- 7:45There's so much detailing these stories.
- 7:46Like I'm not even touching like the tip of the iceberg here.
- 7:49Well, I'm touching the tip of the iceberg, but I'm not going below the surface.
- 7:53Yeah, just the tip.
- 7:54So please go over there to Strange Familiars.
- 7:57You can just in their little search bar.
- 7:59It's a little search.
- 8:00Oh, I almost told you what it was.
- 8:03Search what this topic is.
- 8:04Okay.
- 8:05And then find all of the stories.
- 8:08They're so interesting.
- 8:09Oh my gosh.
- 8:10I had fun listening to hours and hours of these stories.
- 8:13It's okay.
- 8:14Great.
- 8:15I go hard on my research, you guys.
- 8:18Yeah.
- 8:19Because there's not really a lot written about it.
- 8:22Yeah.
- 8:23There's like a couple other podcasts I see that did it.
- 8:25I didn't really listen to those because I was like, well, I'm going to go through like the
- 8:28main source and figure all this out for myself.
- 8:31But there's like not a lot of articles.
- 8:34There's some Reddit stuff that I'll link to, but okay.
- 8:37That's about it.
- 8:38I know.
- 8:39So exciting.
- 8:42Everything's exciting today.
- 8:43Yeah.
- 8:44You're really excited.
- 8:45You're just excited about being excited, even.
- 8:48I'm very excited all these days.
- 8:50Yeah.
- 8:51Well, I wanted to tell you that I was listening to a podcast for my research because I was
- 8:55using Spotify.
- 8:56Oh.
- 8:57It was acting so fucking weird.
- 9:00Like yeah.
- 9:01I was constantly listening to podcasts and stuff and it gets weird.
- 9:05Sometimes you know, there needs to be an update stuff glitches, but this was like, yeah.
- 9:09Consistently weird.
- 9:11Acting through the whole thing.
- 9:13So it was being like slow and I would go to click something and it like wouldn't click.
- 9:19It would click like 30 seconds later, but like not even where I pushed my finger.
- 9:24Oh, weird.
- 9:25Yeah.
- 9:26So you know, when you're listening to stuff, you want to like rewind.
- 9:29Yeah.
- 9:30So I was just fast forward.
- 9:31So I was fighting with it the entire time.
- 9:34So it took me like probably 10 times longer than it should have.
- 9:37So I was fighting with the whole time.
- 9:41So I just thought that was interesting.
- 9:43It was updated.
- 9:44So I don't know.
- 9:45I had full 5G bars.
- 9:48Oh, yeah.
- 9:49I was going to say because the other issue that you have is like not having very good.
- 9:54Yeah.
- 9:55Okay.
- 9:56Now are you ready for the story?
- 9:58Maybe.
- 9:59Or kicking November off with a fall fashionista phantom.
- 10:04Ooh, Flannel Man.
- 10:08Now I see why you wanted me to have the flannel.
- 10:11Am I getting it?
- 10:12Okay.
- 10:13Listen, I meant to ask you this before.
- 10:15I was afraid.
- 10:16I didn't have any flannel in my closet, but I was afraid that if I put on something flannel,
- 10:21like I was like, she's like trying to trick me.
- 10:24It's going to be like somebody like a ghost that haunts people wearing flannel or something.
- 10:30So now that I know, well, I guess I don't know.
- 10:33I guess that's my question.
- 10:35Listen, I'm panicking.
- 10:36Okay.
- 10:37You don't know yet.
- 10:39Should I be wearing flannel or should I not?
- 10:41I mean, it's really up to you.
- 10:44I don't like that answer.
- 10:46If you want to take the chance and go put some flannel on, I know.
- 10:50I'm not a risk taker.
- 10:53It is flannel man.
- 10:54So it is about some entity wearing flannel.
- 10:57So it's not about someone who haunts people in flannel.
- 11:01If you need to go put some on.
- 11:02If I get chilly, then I'll go grab my little grandma shawl.
- 11:07Okay.
- 11:08Not blanky.
- 11:10But you are sufficiently dressed for fall, I think.
- 11:12You got the call color edge going on.
- 11:14So I think you're cool.
- 11:15First mentioned in a paranormal forum long ago in the depths of the interwebs,
- 11:23flannel man is seen all over the US and even in the UK.
- 11:28But in the US, he's seen from Minnesota to Ohio, from Florida to Kentucky and Texas.
- 11:38And yes, even right here in the go to flannel lovin’ nasty PNW. From California through Oregon
- 11:46up to Washington and over to Montana.
- 11:49...
- 11:50Look you guys.
- 11:51I know geography.
- 11:52Geography.
- 11:53I just named places up and over.
- 11:55Yeah, you're like, "Yeah, over there."
- 12:00So when I say Flannel Man, what do you think this guy looks like?
- 12:03A lumberjack.
- 12:04Exactly.
- 12:05It looks like a lumberjack.
- 12:07And of course I became obsessed as soon as I heard the word flannel man.
- 12:11I was like, "Who is this?
- 12:13Who is this man?
- 12:15I need to find him."
- 12:16She's in love.
- 12:18Unfortunately, I've never seen him yet.
- 12:20It's always tomorrow.
- 12:21There is always tomorrow or tonight or right now, just kidding.
- 12:26Okay.
- 12:27Well, I have a camera at the front door now.
- 12:30So fancy.
- 12:32Flannel Man, you can't creep outside of Caitlyn's house.
- 12:36Yeah.
- 12:37Most often, people ranging from children to adults, so pretty much everyone, see a man in
- 12:44a flannel shirt.
- 12:45And it's not just plain flannel though, it always has a plaid pattern on it.
- 12:51So like the typical, like what you would think about a lumberjack wearing.
- 12:56It's usually the red and black buffalo plaid that we're all used to.
- 13:01Even though it's usually like the red and black plaid, the colors do vary from story to
- 13:06story.
- 13:07So sometimes people have seen him in like a white and black plaid or a brown or even like
- 13:13a blue green.
- 13:14And I was just going to ask you about blue.
- 13:17Yeah.
- 13:18Blue green.
- 13:19Okay.
- 13:20And but it is always like a plaid pattern.
- 13:22He's almost always wearing blue jeans and boots and described us looking like a lumberjack.
- 13:29Okay.
- 13:30Typical lumberjack.
- 13:32And a couple people even say he has an axe, which kind of side note reminds me of something
- 13:38that me and my friend made up as a child.
- 13:40I don't know if I've mentioned it before on here.
- 13:43I don't know if this is a thing people do anymore, but we would like sleep outside in the backyard
- 13:47on the trampoline.
- 13:48Like all the time.
- 13:49Yeah.
- 13:50Like trampoline.
- 13:51I would now camping, you know?
- 13:53Yeah.
- 13:54But there was like this creepy neighbor's house and it was like all overgrown and stuff.
- 13:59And we used to say that axe man lived over there and the axe man was going to come for us.
- 14:04I don't know where this can't like I don't know where I heard it.
- 14:07I don't know where she heard it or if we just like made up this scary axe man thing,
- 14:12but it obviously in my mind, he looked like a lumberjack and he probably was wearing like
- 14:18plaid flannel jeans and boots with an axe.
- 14:21We didn't I don't remember ever seeing him.
- 14:24Did you just manifest the flannel man?
- 14:28Am I the reason for the flannel man?
- 14:31Am I the drama?
- 14:34I think there are sightings like before I was born.
- 14:37Okay.
- 14:38Or maybe like when I was like really young.
- 14:40I mean it could have been like past life you though because I feel like every iteration
- 14:45of you in every dimension loves a lumberjack and I flannel man from a past life.
- 14:54Oh, I don't know.
- 14:56Yeah, I don't know.
- 14:58I don't know.
- 14:59I do love flannels.
- 15:00Yeah.
- 15:01You do love a good flannel.
- 15:03It's very Seattle.
- 15:04It's funny you say that.
- 15:06Yeah.
- 15:07Okay.
- 15:08That might come back around later.
- 15:09Okay.
- 15:10And I've about me kind of most describe him as having a like longer dark hair and a beard.
- 15:18And I assume when people say longer hair they just mean like longer than like a short typical
- 15:24man hairstyle.
- 15:25Maybe.
- 15:26So not like long but like just like longer than short I guess.
- 15:31I was going to say do we get any sort of specificity around that?
- 15:35There is a variety.
- 15:36A lot of people just say he had longer hair.
- 15:38But there is some of them do have specific like it was shoulder length.
- 15:42It was this it was that but yeah, just longer than normal and usually kind of like not very
- 15:47neat.
- 15:48Okay.
- 15:50It bothers me when people say things sometimes like and I'm probably guilty of it too.
- 15:57I feel like sometimes we just expect people to finish our thought for us or we don't even
- 16:02realize it anyways.
- 16:04It bothers me when people say things like oh you know it's longer but like what?
- 16:09Right.
- 16:10Exactly.
- 16:11Like that.
- 16:12Like there should be a then yeah and then some other I think they mean they longer than normal
- 16:18but which is like that's so subjective.
- 16:21Right.
- 16:22Like normal for military normal for someone who lives in the woods for 50 years alone.
- 16:26Like what is normal?
- 16:28Okay.
- 16:29I think like one one or like two people described as being like really like pretty long
- 16:33hair like shoulder length.
- 16:35Yeah.
- 16:36But I think somewhere between shoulder length and short is like what most people see.
- 16:41We're really going on about the hair.
- 16:42You know, I feel like maybe I maybe I did need my full regimen of meds today.
- 16:50It's the Leo in you though.
- 16:51You're just like obsessed with hair.
- 16:53That's the thing.
- 16:54Oh, is that a thing?
- 16:55It's a Leo thing.
- 16:56Yes.
- 16:57You're really.
- 16:58Oh, that makes so much sense.
- 16:59Yeah.
- 17:00And I'm like a Leo of venus Leo.
- 17:02So like Venus is all about like your appearance and like lovely things and so like I'm also
- 17:08kind of obsessed with hair.
- 17:10So I get it.
- 17:11It makes sense for us.
- 17:12But this is kind of where things start to vary even more from story to story.
- 17:18So some have seen him as blonde instead of with dark hair.
- 17:23Most mostly with dark hair but a couple have seen him as blonde.
- 17:27Others see him wearing different kinds of hats.
- 17:31Some see him wearing like old-timey type of goggles.
- 17:36Kind of like leather goggles.
- 17:38I'm not sure what they would have been for but people just describe them as like old-timey.
- 17:43Like he's like rocking a steam punk.
- 17:45That's like where my mind went.
- 17:49I'm not under percent sure what the goggles were.
- 17:52Yeah.
- 17:53They're like also he I don't know if this is important at all but he's wearing like a
- 17:56plate.
- 17:57Dr. Mask you know it's fine.
- 17:58Everything's fine.
- 17:59It's all it's not that noticeable on your face.
- 18:02Yeah exactly exactly.
- 18:03I love it.
- 18:04That's kind of funny though because someone one of the stories it was like when she was a
- 18:11little kid and like the little boys that were with her were like are these night vision
- 18:18goggles and I'm like I don't think so funny but they're night vision goggles.
- 18:23Oh my god.
- 18:24Those are like those are noticeable on your face no matter what stuff others tell you.
- 18:29Yeah.
- 18:30Listen don't believe everything you see on TV.
- 18:33Yeah.
- 18:34The Beards range in description too so they range from short neat to very long and unkempt.
- 18:43Okay.
- 18:44Well that's where I'm like okay.
- 18:46Different times of year maybe.
- 18:47Maybe.
- 18:48I mean obviously we're not everyone's not seeing the same exact guy.
- 18:53It's kind of like hat man feel because like hat man is described kind of you know where
- 19:00you're very various different hats you know it's kind of like that type of thing so it's
- 19:05not the same exact entity everyone is seeing.
- 19:09Obviously that's kind of what I gather from listening to all the these stories but that
- 19:13was like one of their theories as well.
- 19:15Okay.
- 19:16I mean that kind of makes sense to me I guess.
- 19:17The Beards can also be gray or just not there at all some of them don't have beards just
- 19:24a chisel jaw ula la.
- 19:27That rhymes.
- 19:31Most people say he is very tall like kind of taller than average like six foot to six
- 19:37five.
- 19:38Okay.
- 19:39Others say he is about average height so like five eight to five ten.
- 19:42Okay.
- 19:43Is that average height now?
- 19:44A ish average ish.
- 19:46I don't know.
- 19:47I don't know.
- 19:48I don't know.
- 19:49And then five ten's like average.
- 19:50Yeah.
- 19:51So short that it like these heights you're like what is numbers.
- 19:54I don't know.
- 19:55I'm like how do you breathe?
- 19:57You probably don't run so good there.
- 19:59So you know that altitude sickness.
- 20:02Yeah.
- 20:03Yeah.
- 20:04Every story I've heard from this podcast says that he is a white guy but there was like one
- 20:11story that said he had tanskin and he could have been an indigenous person.
- 20:17Oh, interesting.
- 20:18But overwhelmingly he's a white dude like all of the serial killers.
- 20:24Yeah.
- 20:25Just watch out.
- 20:26I mean, let's be real though.
- 20:29Jake Bird we just talk about.
- 20:31It's true.
- 20:32It's true.
- 20:33Their faces are often said to be in shadow or just overall hard to make out.
- 20:38So other than like the beard and like a chiseled jaw people can't really make out things about
- 20:45his face.
- 20:46Oh, it's like a really bad sketch artist.
- 20:49Yeah.
- 20:50So I think it's just that like they don't want to be seen in detail but then there's like
- 20:57these other details that change like the hair color and things.
- 21:00So I don't know.
- 21:01It like depends on the lighting too.
- 21:03For all of these like color issues.
- 21:05So I don't know.
- 21:06Yeah.
- 21:07I think one of those like, you know, longer than or you know, lighter than than what?
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:14I'm going to need you to give me two examples.
- 21:16I just need a picture.
- 21:18Get a picture of flannel man for us.
- 21:20Not that hard.
- 21:21What?
- 21:22Like it's hard.
- 21:23Actually it might be kind of hard.
- 21:24Probably pretty hard.
- 21:25I'll tell you why in a little bit.
- 21:27A couple people have said that instead of a lumberjack they get more of like a 90's
- 21:32grunt vibe from him.
- 21:35And that's like my whole vibe today.
- 21:37Bro, I got the Choker necklace.
- 21:39Is it Kurt Cobain?
- 21:40It's funny.
- 21:41You say that because one person even named their flannel man Kurt.
- 21:46Stop it.
- 21:47Yeah.
- 21:48There was one story about someone who saw described their whole situation and then was like, I call
- 21:56him Kurt because like he was wearing a plan on the friendship.
- 21:59It's the vibe.
- 22:00It's the vibe.
- 22:01Oh my God.
- 22:04And there have been a couple stories of even flannel women.
- 22:09So there are a couple women involved in this flannel situation.
- 22:14Okay.
- 22:15Well now I feel a little bit like I need my scarf.
- 22:18Although it's not flannel.
- 22:21It'll be plaid but not flannel.
- 22:22I mean plaid is flannel.
- 22:24It's kind of interchangeable.
- 22:25I think so.
- 22:26Yeah.
- 22:27Like my hair could be longer than.
- 22:30Exactly.
- 22:31Yeah.
- 22:32Yeah, I know flannel is like technically like a material type but yeah.
- 22:37And this is it's this is in this instance.
- 22:41They do mean it as like the plaid and at least one person said that he had glowing red eyes.
- 22:50No.
- 22:51Oh, I really hate that.
- 22:54I know.
- 22:55Why?
- 22:56It's creepy.
- 22:58Yeah.
- 22:59Yeah.
- 23:00I don't know why it wasn't everybody.
- 23:02To my knowledge listening to all these stories it was just the one person.
- 23:07It wasn't it wasn't everyone.
- 23:09Very.
- 23:10And we'll kind of go over the feelings and stuff.
- 23:12Okay.
- 23:13A little bit.
- 23:14Yeah.
- 23:15I have a lot of feelings.
- 23:16Okay.
- 23:17A lot of people have a lot of feelings.
- 23:18I don't have a lot of feeling in my feet right now.
- 23:21But I have feelings for you flannel man.
- 23:25Will you come visit me tonight in my room?
- 23:27Yeah.
- 23:28Her room at her house.
- 23:30Spring the axe.
- 23:32Oh my god.
- 23:34Something's happening to me.
- 23:35Yeah.
- 23:36It's taking over my body.
- 23:37You are being really weird.
- 23:39So what happens during a flannel man sighting?
- 23:42Probably nothing.
- 23:43I'm sure it's everything's fine.
- 23:45Everything's fine.
- 23:46Everything's fine.
- 23:47Everybody goes home and goes bed and I mean kind of.
- 23:51Oh.
- 23:52Okay.
- 23:53Cool.
- 23:54So you're like half right?
- 23:59Okay.
- 24:00No.
- 24:01That's not even close to the same thing at all.
- 24:06You're the bed part right?
- 24:08That's not in the spirit of what I said.
- 24:10I just want to be a fun to be clear about that.
- 24:14Or they like wake up in the middle of the night and you know like go to get a drink of
- 24:18water or something and then randomly see the flannel man standing like in the kitchen
- 24:24or somewhere along the way.
- 24:26And encounters typically don't last very long before he will just disappear in front of
- 24:32your eyes or like you'll turn and then he'll be gone or he'll just like start to walk
- 24:37away and fade away.
- 24:39Okay.
- 24:40So he doesn't stick around very long and then usually people say he's just kind of like
- 24:46staring at you, watching you.
- 24:49Okay.
- 24:50So he's sort of like the two pump chomp of like apparitions.
- 24:53I guess so.
- 24:54Yeah.
- 24:55Kind of.
- 24:56Okay.
- 24:57But he does like to stare and watch.
- 24:59But then if he sees you notice him, he gets kind of like startled and then like sometimes
- 25:04that's when he'll disappear or like run away.
- 25:08The audacity.
- 25:09Oh, I'm sorry.
- 25:10Did I scare you?
- 25:11Yeah.
- 25:12My own house.
- 25:13So it's kind of like one of those ones like which one of you is the ghost, you know?
- 25:16I'm him.
- 25:17I feel confident.
- 25:19I don't need to phone a friend.
- 25:23Yeah.
- 25:24Final answer.
- 25:25I don't know if he knows where he's at.
- 25:27If he's just startled to be caught, not really sure.
- 25:31I just feel like I just like shook my head.
- 25:36So like I don't know.
- 25:38That just I got like, well, well, dizzy there.
- 25:41Is that gives me Sir your startle?
- 25:43Yeah.
- 25:44Okay.
- 25:45A few people say that they woke up from a loud sound, but it's kind of like you, you
- 25:51don't really know what the sound was because you're like, you were asleep in all of a sudden
- 25:55you're awake from some sort of sound and then saw him.
- 26:00So like that makes it kind of extra creepy.
- 26:03Yeah.
- 26:04Like is he burying his accent like my closet door or something?
- 26:08Like is that what I'm, is that the sound?
- 26:10He needs to bury his accent me.
- 26:12Oh, you know what?
- 26:16Okay.
- 26:17This is why I wore the shirt today.
- 26:19I'm going to show you guys my shirt from the Ash and you go concert.
- 26:23It says I can't help that I want to be Titi smothered because I feel like I am like going
- 26:28so hardcore on like dudes like, I love lumberjack dudes, but I also want some Titi.
- 26:33So I felt like I had to represent both today.
- 26:35Okay.
- 26:36To see you guys out.
- 26:37I am selfish and I want everybody.
- 26:41Yeah.
- 26:42I wanted all.
- 26:43So we left off after I said that people woke up sometimes from a loud sound didn't know
- 26:48what it was and then they see flattamann.
- 26:50No.
- 26:51Kind of like that.
- 26:52But for the most part, people don't really get a bad vibe from him.
- 26:56It's just like overall feeling uncomfortable at suddenly seeing like a man in your house
- 27:03that shouldn't be there.
- 27:05Relatable.
- 27:06Yeah.
- 27:07And some people do even see him like not just in their home.
- 27:10Some people have reported him like on the side of the road.
- 27:13How many of you said they saw I'm sitting on like a median of like a highway?
- 27:18Oh, which is a really weird spot.
- 27:21So like places like he really shouldn't be.
- 27:24Okay.
- 27:25Yeah.
- 27:26No one should be there.
- 27:27No one should be.
- 27:28No man should be in your bedroom or on the side of the road or anywhere.
- 27:31Just don't be there.
- 27:32Even in flannel.
- 27:33It's not an excuse.
- 27:36There's no excuse.
- 27:38Not even flannel.
- 27:40People say that they also feel like even though he looks like a normal person, like he's
- 27:45solid, he's not like see through anything, they just get the vibe that he's not.
- 27:51He's like not a normal person.
- 27:53He's not of this world.
- 27:54Like he's something different in paranormal basically.
- 27:57Okay.
- 27:58He's a not dear.
- 27:59He's a not lumberjack.
- 28:00Yeah.
- 28:01Oh, new thing.
- 28:03Flannel man's out.
- 28:04Not lumberjack is in.
- 28:06New level.
- 28:07So like I said, people don't really get like a super evil, a menacing vibe from him or anything.
- 28:14Other than a couple instances like the one where he was just standing there, grinning
- 28:22at a mother and daughter at the same time into separate bedrooms.
- 28:29I'm sorry.
- 28:30What?
- 28:31Yeah.
- 28:32He was just standing there in his flannel just grinning at this mother and daughter who
- 28:39were in two separate rooms and had this experience at the same exact time.
- 28:44The mom screamed because she saw a man in her room.
- 28:47Yeah.
- 28:48And then when she screamed, he disappeared and she heard her daughter screaming like there's
- 28:52a man in my room.
- 28:53So they were having like the same experience at the same time.
- 28:57I don't care for that.
- 28:59I'll be honest.
- 29:00The grinning is just like, yeah.
- 29:03That feels menacing.
- 29:05Okay, especially when you do that with your eyes.
- 29:07Like I think of pinny eyes.
- 29:08I don't know what I did with my eyes.
- 29:10Hopefully it was creepy.
- 29:11Oh God.
- 29:12Yeah.
- 29:13No, it was creepy.
- 29:14Good.
- 29:15God.
- 29:16I'm going to just sit here and like completely destroy my cuticle.
- 29:20I was going to scare you.
- 29:21Like picking your nails right now.
- 29:23You're nervous.
- 29:24No, I'm fine.
- 29:25We could have put oven mitts on you so you don't see.
- 29:31Oh my God.
- 29:32Yeah, I might need a.
- 29:34Maybe I'll grab a rock.
- 29:38Oh, that's a good idea.
- 29:40Yeah.
- 29:41Rub your rocks.
- 29:42Get your rocks off.
- 29:43Get your rocks off.
- 29:44People report even smelling him like the smell of his new clothes or his like leathery
- 29:50boots or even feeling his boots.
- 29:54Like some people have like reached out to touch him and they he feels like solid.
- 29:58He is there.
- 30:01Why are we just touching people's home?
- 30:03I think because like if you're in your sleepy state, you wake up and you just want to like,
- 30:07I don't know, see if see if they're if that's real.
- 30:10And apparently he is someone even like hold on his beard kind of thinking it was like Halloween
- 30:18time.
- 30:19They thought maybe it was one of their parents.
- 30:21It was a kid.
- 30:22So they like reached up and yanked his beard and it like didn't come off.
- 30:27It was.
- 30:28Spoiler alert was not one of the parents.
- 30:31Some other interesting things happened in that story.
- 30:34Yeah, you'll have to just go go listen.
- 30:37One Reddit comment from Hail the Cat Overlords apparently had reoccurring sightings of him
- 30:46of flannel man and said that he always smelled like cigarettes and they asked him to stop smoking
- 30:54when he came around.
- 30:55Oh, and he did like they never smelled the cigarettes again when they saw him.
- 31:01So it's pretty nice.
- 31:02Yeah, that's polite.
- 31:03It's like a decent dude, I guess.
- 31:06Yeah.
- 31:07So it's the staring and the grinning.
- 31:09Yeah.
- 31:10I just picture him kind of smelling like sawdust.
- 31:15Yeah, you would think, right?
- 31:18I don't think anyone reported that the the smells were mostly like about his clothes and
- 31:23like the cigarette smell.
- 31:26Interesting.
- 31:27That would be interesting for them to start asking people like was there any smells associated
- 31:31with it?
- 31:32Yeah.
- 31:33Like that's one of or arguably the most impactful sensory thing.
- 31:44I don't know.
- 31:45I'm struggling to find the words for that.
- 31:50Everything's fine.
- 31:51I don't think it's fine.
- 31:53Most people say they just see him once and then don't ever see him again with the exception
- 31:58of like a couple people like the cigarette people, the cigarette people.
- 32:03But not cigarette people because they didn't want the cigarette.
- 32:06The non smokers.
- 32:08And all of these people that are telling their stories, they're saying that they they've
- 32:12had this experience of seeing flannel man before really even hearing about it.
- 32:17Because like this is like a super well known thing.
- 32:20It's more known now than it was when they started this.
- 32:24I mean, like as people started telling their stories and people hear them and then they're
- 32:29like, oh my gosh, like I've seen flannel man.
- 32:32I've seen a man in plaid show up either in my bedroom or along the side of the road.
- 32:38It's a little more owner, I say like believable.
- 32:41Oh, yeah.
- 32:42Because these people aren't just hearing the story and then saying, oh, I saw him.
- 32:47Like it wasn't like implanted in their mind or anything.
- 32:50Yeah, that makes sense.
- 32:52And they're usually like shocked to hear that other people have seen this man and flannel.
- 32:58So I feel like it's something that's a very specific but also like very general.
- 33:02If that makes sense.
- 33:03Like seeing a man in plaid, you're not automatically like, oh, that's something that is interesting
- 33:10really.
- 33:11It's just kind of general.
- 33:12But then when you see other people start having the same saying the same things over,
- 33:17it's like, oh, maybe that isn't so general.
- 33:19It's kind of specific.
- 33:20Yeah.
- 33:21Well, I think some of that, you know, it's in an isolated incident.
- 33:27It's like maybe it's just very innocuous.
- 33:30Yeah.
- 33:31When you get down to like the pattern recognition of it all, it's like, oh, that seems more meaningful.
- 33:38Yeah.
- 33:39Like there's more to it.
- 33:40Thank you for understanding what I was trying to say and explaining it better because I
- 33:44was just like, it's general, but it's also specific.
- 33:47Yeah.
- 33:48No, but it's one of those things where actually I just was watching a show and they were talking
- 33:54about how the best place to hide something is in plain sight.
- 33:59Oh, yes.
- 34:00Basically, you know, and yeah, Cassie can really, that's so funny.
- 34:05It's all, it all ties together.
- 34:08Cassie came into my room because I was going to go look for something plaid and I was like,
- 34:13oh, you can't come in here.
- 34:15And I literally never said that.
- 34:17Usually she's like standing outside the door like, can I come in?
- 34:21Like suddenly, you know, one or both of Chris and I will be naked somehow, but I don't
- 34:28know what they do in there.
- 34:30You guys.
- 34:31I'm like, I was literally in the doorway 15 seconds ago.
- 34:36I don't know how quickly.
- 34:38Well, when you said that to your like, oh, you can't come in here.
- 34:41I'm looking right at you and I was like, oh, are you naked?
- 34:43Yeah, you did.
- 34:44Yeah.
- 34:45Are you naked?
- 34:46I'm looking at you.
- 34:48Like what?
- 34:50Well, and it was just us here at the house.
- 34:53Yeah.
- 34:54But it was because there's something that's forecasty, but it's not pretty yet.
- 34:59So I saw nothing.
- 35:01Yeah, she's like, I don't know.
- 35:03I saw nothing, apparently not even Caitlin standing right in front of me fully clothed.
- 35:08Yeah.
- 35:09Talk about pattern recognition.
- 35:12So that's me.
- 35:15I don't notice things.
- 35:17I feel like you'd notice Plano Man.
- 35:19I think that's what really matters.
- 35:21Yeah, I probably would notice you, Plano Man.
- 35:23Yeah.
- 35:24If you'd like to show yourself, not at Caitlin's, we've established.
- 35:30So no one really knows what Plano Man is or what he, she, they mean or want.
- 35:37But some people think he might be some type of spirit guide.
- 35:42The people that don't get like the really bad vibes from him kind of think maybe he's
- 35:46a spirit guide or even an interdimensional entity.
- 35:51Oh, so he's just like popping in and out of dimensions here and there.
- 35:56That's so weird because do you remember me saying that in every iteration of you, in every
- 36:03dimension, I think you're attracted to Plano Man?
- 36:07Yeah.
- 36:08Yeah, I do remember you saying that.
- 36:09I was like, oh, it's interesting.
- 36:11She brings up other dimensions.
- 36:13Yeah.
- 36:14Interesting choice of word.
- 36:16A few people see him before having like, Promenicians or before seeing other things like Bigfoot or UFOs.
- 36:24Really?
- 36:25Yeah.
- 36:26That's interesting.
- 36:27It is really interesting.
- 36:28And this is where we trip and fall right into a high-strangeness hole and pop out and
- 36:34point pleasant West Virginia.
- 36:36Oh.
- 36:37And for anyone who doesn't know, point pleasant West Virginia is where the Mothman prophecies
- 36:42takes place.
- 36:44Okay.
- 36:45So this book/movie, shout out Richard Gehr, talks about a lot of other strange things besides
- 36:52just Mothman.
- 36:53Okay.
- 36:54And one of the stories in this book/movie, actually, I don't know if it's in the movie, I've
- 36:59never actually seen the movie.
- 37:01I will watch it.
- 37:02What's this movie?
- 37:03The Mothman prophecies.
- 37:05Oh, okay.
- 37:06Okay.
- 37:07It's true.
- 37:08It's a true story about this man looking into all these strange things.
- 37:11One of them is Mothman.
- 37:12Okay.
- 37:13And a lot of other strange things happen around it, basically.
- 37:17Okay.
- 37:18Okay.
- 37:19Richard Gehr is in the movie.
- 37:20And Richard Gehr is also there.
- 37:23It's not a rom-com.
- 37:26So one of the stories in the Mothman prophecies is about someone waking up at night.
- 37:32I think it was a, I think this was a child.
- 37:36And seeing a tall, checkered shirt man, he was staring.
- 37:43And they couldn't make out the facial features very well.
- 37:46No, thank you.
- 37:48Other than a very large grin on his face.
- 37:53Okay.
- 37:54Well, that's just, it's rude.
- 37:57So we have another grinning, flannel, assumedly.
- 38:02They say a checkered shirt, but a checkered plaid, basically the same thing.
- 38:07Yeah, yeah.
- 38:08We have another grinning flannel man.
- 38:10Like, what?
- 38:11Okay.
- 38:12That is so weird.
- 38:14And this is a completely different story from like the mother and daughter who woke up
- 38:18at the same time, seeing the same grinning flannel man.
- 38:21Like this has happened a long time ago.
- 38:25So it's interesting.
- 38:27And it's even more weird just to me personally because I've had this show called Hellier, which
- 38:33is like, it's a documentary about all this like high-strangeness stuff, kind of like the
- 38:38Mothman prophecies.
- 38:39Yeah.
- 38:40It's a huge thread of like connection with the Mothman prophecies in the show that I've
- 38:45been like binging and like it's been like my comfort background as I'm writing this.
- 38:50So I was like, oh, that's like kind of weird.
- 38:53And then so now I just feel like I'm so close to being initiated into something.
- 38:58Something.
- 38:59Something's happening.
- 39:00You're on the verge.
- 39:01I'm on the synchronicity path.
- 39:06It's taken me somewhere.
- 39:07I don't know where it's taken me, but stay tuned.
- 39:10There's a really good chance I might snap this in half.
- 39:14I feel like I'm about to lose Caitlin on all this really, really deep, weird stuff.
- 39:21So we'll keep it light.
- 39:22And that's for all in all of that for now.
- 39:24But you guys, if you're interested in any of that, like that shit runs deep, like, yeah.
- 39:30It's really interesting, but it does immediately kind of, it puts like the, gives you the tingles,
- 39:36like the fighting senses, your hackles are going up.
- 39:39A little bit weird stuff.
- 39:41Hopefully I don't drag you down the hole with me.
- 39:45I mean, I think it's a little too late for that.
- 39:48You're like holding on to the edge and I'm holding you like, you're like pitch like
- 39:55oh, my leg.
- 39:56I don't want anything to do with it.
- 40:01So all of this made me think of my weird Oregon book, which if you see the cover right
- 40:07now on YouTube or Patreon, oh boy, has a picture of a giant Paul Bunions statue on the front
- 40:15and he is wearing a red and white checker shirt.
- 40:18He sure is in this book.
- 40:20They have a chapter titled Bunions of the Beaver State.
- 40:26That's hilarious.
- 40:27I know.
- 40:28Bunions of the Beaver State.
- 40:32Wow.
- 40:33That's a lot of bunions.
- 40:34Well, yeah, I mean, it's a little bit of a double-on-pound.
- 40:43But they talk about these two Paul Bunions statues that are in Oregon and they don't have
- 40:48anything to do with Bunions on your feet.
- 40:50They're Paul Bunions.
- 40:52The very first giant hunk of Paul Bunion fiberglass was made in Venice, California for a
- 40:59cafe in Flagstaff, Arizona.
- 41:03The same mold was used to create muffler men.
- 41:07They are these giant dude statues, like these Paul Bunions statues.
- 41:13They weren't just lumberjacks.
- 41:15They were like many other various manly man figures.
- 41:20They were at car shops or muffler shops.
- 41:23I don't know if they were like a muffler shops or a Michelin man.
- 41:26No, I'm kind of like that, but they're called the muffler men and they are supposed to
- 41:31draw people into like get their mufflers muff for what other car things happen at car places.
- 41:37I don't know.
- 41:38Get your mufflers muffler.
- 41:40You're going to get your mufflers muffed.
- 41:42The first one was a lumberjack that they were all various different types of manzes.
- 41:48Giant manzes.
- 41:49I'm going to look at that a little bit more later.
- 41:51Just go ahead and open it.
- 41:52Did you see any?
- 41:53They're just giant men statues.
- 41:56Okay.
- 41:57The 60s, am I right?
- 42:00They were a time.
- 42:03Grandspass Oregon still has a giant Paul Bunions statue in front of the cedarwood saloon.
- 42:10I don't know if he's still there.
- 42:12The last picture I saw was on Facebook in 2017.
- 42:17He was looking a little rough.
- 42:21His face is all chipped and stuff.
- 42:23I don't know if he's still there.
- 42:24I was just going to say if anyone lives there, it knows.
- 42:27Send us a picture.
- 42:28Yeah.
- 42:30In the 90s, someone was upset with the new owners and they pulled this poor Paul down with
- 42:38a truck and then drug him across the street.
- 42:42Oh, I know.
- 42:44Oh, no.
- 42:46And then since then, I feel like he's been a little cursed.
- 42:49Okay.
- 42:50Cars have run into him.
- 42:53He's been shot with BB guns.
- 42:55Oh my gosh.
- 42:57And one fateful wind storm.
- 43:00He was decapitated.
- 43:02Oh my God.
- 43:04So somehow they got his head back on.
- 43:07Super glue.
- 43:08I guess so.
- 43:09Yeah.
- 43:10So I don't know who knows if he hasn't just completely fallen apart.
- 43:13But it's time to give up the ghost.
- 43:16Yeah.
- 43:17Poor guy.
- 43:18Poor Paul.
- 43:19Poor Paulie.
- 43:20Getting decapitated and shit.
- 43:21That's rough.
- 43:23This is one of my random thoughts in here too.
- 43:26Like what if all the flannum and spirits are of abused Paul Bunyan statues?
- 43:32That's kind of freaky.
- 43:33I'm not going to lie.
- 43:36That's why they're all so tall.
- 43:38Yeah, I guess that would make sense.
- 43:41But this guy on the front, they say that he's probably pretty happy.
- 43:47Like look at this big old grin.
- 43:50He has on his face.
- 43:51Very creepy.
- 43:53He's grinning.
- 43:54Yeah.
- 43:55He's the grinning flannel man.
- 43:57He is in downtown Portland, Oregon.
- 44:01This Paul Bunyan statue was made for Oregon's 100th birthday to honor the timber industry.
- 44:09Shout out to Ralph.
- 44:12Ralph Ralph Reigns.
- 44:13Yes.
- 44:14Junior.
- 44:15Ralph.
- 44:16Yeah.
- 44:17Ralph Jr.
- 44:18Ralph Jr.
- 44:19That was such a good episode.
- 44:20Yeah.
- 44:21That was a good one.
- 44:22Awful.
- 44:23But like he's so sweet.
- 44:24Both of the timber heirs that we've talked about because the other is obviously the warehouse
- 44:28or kids.
- 44:29It's like, woof.
- 44:30That's a little.
- 44:31Yeah.
- 44:32They're both a little dark.
- 44:33So they placed him near the border to Washington as a little, hey girl, welcome in.
- 44:41And they did move him about 50 feet from his original spot to make way for like the trains
- 44:46and shit.
- 44:47Okay.
- 44:48Yeah.
- 44:49I mean, as the city grows, yeah, I'm excited.
- 44:51I'm going to move some stuff.
- 44:52But he's not too far.
- 44:53He was directly across from the Dancin’ Bare Strip Club.
- 44:58And that's B-A-R-E.
- 44:59Not like a dancing bear.
- 45:03I feel like if you really want to be on brand though, bear, you know, B-E-A-R.
- 45:09Yeah.
- 45:10That's true.
- 45:11Speaking of Strip Club's titties.
- 45:13Today's.
- 45:15I was very on theme.
- 45:18But from a quick little Goog map search, it looks like the Dancin' Bare is now closed.
- 45:23To COVID.
- 45:24Oh, I know.
- 45:26From the COVID shutdown, they just couldn't recover, you know?
- 45:29Yeah.
- 45:30Yeah.
- 45:31Yeah, that kind of sucks.
- 45:32So he was like really happy for a while looking over all the strippers.
- 45:35But now I don't know.
- 45:36Maybe his grin is slowly turning into a frown.
- 45:40Well, to go visit him.
- 45:42I don't know that I've ever seen this.
- 45:45Yeah.
- 45:46I think I have it.
- 45:47I'm trying to place it.
- 45:49And it's like iconography in my head.
- 45:51Yeah.
- 45:52I see it.
- 45:53I feel like I've actually seen it in person.
- 45:57Maybe I've seen it.
- 45:58I don't know.
- 45:59Yeah.
- 46:00I...
- 46:01Maybe the fact that we can't remember if we've seen it is like something weird happening.
- 46:08Something.
- 46:09It's...
- 46:10Oh, it's something.
- 46:12It's something.
- 46:13We'll have to go find him next time we're down there.
- 46:16All right.
- 46:17Well, you know, we're, you know, we make other plans.
- 46:21Things happen and, you know, you have a couple drinks and suddenly you're just, you know,
- 46:25not doing that.
- 46:26But look how he smiles.
- 46:28This also kind of made me think of like we've talked about a couple different lumberjack
- 46:31ghosts.
- 46:32I feel like in some of our episodes, I think Lithia Park had a lumberjack.
- 46:37Yeah.
- 46:38I don't know if it was the St. Helens one where the lumberjack was just like sitting in
- 46:43a booth at the restaurant.
- 46:46That sounds like maybe I'm one of those.
- 46:49Lithia Park for sure.
- 46:51Yeah.
- 46:52Like that rings a bell for me and I remember that, but I don't know, I can't say for sure about
- 46:57which other one.
- 46:58Yeah.
- 46:59I think it was the St. Helens one where we talked about that restaurant.
- 47:03But yeah.
- 47:04Someone, you know, go listen to all of our episodes and correct me.
- 47:07Yeah.
- 47:08Please.
- 47:09No big deal.
- 47:10Have your friends listen.
- 47:11So I want to kind of end this with a little funny Reddit thread here.
- 47:17Okay.
- 47:18Very short.
- 47:19Just a couple of comments.
- 47:20So the OP says, has anyone had a sighting sloshing counter with the flannel shirt man and
- 47:28suspended account extrasandwich232. suspended.
- 47:33Oh.
- 47:34So you guys, I don't know if you know when you copy and paste this, it shows you that this
- 47:40account, it like copies in suspended account next to the name.
- 47:45So I thought that was interesting.
- 47:46Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have known.
- 47:48Yeah.
- 47:49That is interesting.
- 47:50But I thought that was funny just because of what they say next.
- 47:53So yeah.
- 47:54Quote.
- 47:55I saw the flannel shirt man come out of my ex's house once.
- 47:59She said he haunts her a few times a week.
- 48:02Is that why she's next?
- 48:04What?
- 48:05I feel like she might just be cheating on you with a lumberjack.
- 48:10Well, that's that's a possibility.
- 48:13Yeah.
- 48:14She wants me to see you in a few times a week.
- 48:16Yeah.
- 48:17If you spend any time on Reddit, a lot of cheating stories there.
- 48:22Yeah.
- 48:23On, on, am I the asshole?
- 48:25Yeah.
- 48:26A lot of them there.
- 48:27A-I-T-A.
- 48:28There was another comment from, it's like bbybluecheese83.
- 48:34So I'm like, baby blue cheese 83 is how I read it in my head.
- 48:38Only in the 90s with it tied around his waist.
- 48:41I feel so attacked right now.
- 48:43Wait, they're just, they're, because they're saying has anyone seen flannel shirt man and
- 48:47they're like only in the 90s with it tied around his waist.
- 48:51Uh-huh.
- 48:52Okay.
- 48:53Okay.
- 48:54Yeah.
- 48:55Kind of surprising, not really surprising.
- 48:57I had this very flannel shirt tied around my waist last night.
- 49:03I was flannel man in Portland last night.
- 49:08I went downtown to the underhill haunted house.
- 49:12Yeah, you did.
- 49:13By myself.
- 49:14Yeah.
- 49:15All alone.
- 49:16If you missed it, we had them come on for an interview that was a bonus a few weeks ago.
- 49:23By now it's past Halloween now.
- 49:25So they're not open anymore.
- 49:27But they did give me like a lights on backstage tour.
- 49:32Very cool.
- 49:33And then I went through the haunted house and I did it by myself.
- 49:36I did everything alone.
- 49:38Yeah.
- 49:39Which was an experience.
- 49:40Um, yeah, I can imagine.
- 49:42I'll share that experience with the Patreon.
- 49:44I did do like a little recording of me walking through.
- 49:49I have a lot of recordings of like the backstage of them doing makeup.
- 49:53So yeah, we'll do a nice little Patreon bonus about that.
- 49:57And I also wanted to tease you a little bit because only Patreon will get to know about
- 50:01something very, very cool and very special that happened while I was there.
- 50:07And I like, I totally fan-girled so hard.
- 50:10It was like embarrassing how fan-girly I got over this.
- 50:14Really?
- 50:15Super secret detail that I'll share with the Patreon and the bonus.
- 50:18Oh my God.
- 50:19Look at my face.
- 50:20I don't want to, but me too, right?
- 50:23Like you'll tell me.
- 50:24Of course I'll tell you.
- 50:26You won't care.
- 50:27Oh, okay.
- 50:28Um, I want to know.
- 50:30I want to know.
- 50:32You'll get to know.
- 50:34Okay.
- 50:35So yeah, if you guys want to know, join our Patreon.
- 50:37If you have any flannel man stories, please feel free to share them with us.
- 50:41But also please send them to the Strange Familiars podcast so that they can like get all of these
- 50:48stories collect them off for their book that they're going to write because they're doing
- 50:52like a whole like anthology.
- 50:54Yeah.
- 50:55Yeah.
- 50:56And I want this book so like I feel like they need more stories.
- 50:59Yeah.
- 51:00But also send them to us so that we can make them a creepy people chronicles, you know?
- 51:03Obviously.
- 51:04What's our email?
- 51:05pnwhauntsandhomicides@gmail.com.
- 51:07Oh yeah.
- 51:08Well, do you want to do some tarot?
- 51:09Do we do some tarot?
- 51:10Yeah, let's do tarot.
- 51:11Let's do some tarot.
- 51:12Land on man tarot.
- 51:14All right.
- 51:15What type of rigana use?
- 51:17I don't know.
- 51:18I brought my mushroom oracle.
- 51:20Ooh, I feel like that feels like a feels appropriate.
- 51:24It's feeling naturey.
- 51:26Yeah.
- 51:27Yeah, I was going to say unless you have one that you specifically have chosen, we can
- 51:32always do the PNW.
- 51:33I know you, but I think the mushroom that feels right.
- 51:37I think so too.
- 51:38Yeah.
- 51:39Let's do some oracle.
- 51:40Let's do it.
- 51:41All right.
- 51:42We're at the tarot.
- 51:43I'm going to get my butt back out of my seat and go draw a card from the altar.
- 51:54I have a mouse spread out there.
- 51:56My mushroom oracle deck.
- 51:59What you get?
- 52:00I got the Amethyst Deceiver.
- 52:04Oh.
- 52:05It means deception.
- 52:08Deception.
- 52:09And I will get my little interpretation booklet from my computer real quick.
- 52:14Okay.
- 52:15Number four.
- 52:16Should I read us some mushroom bags?
- 52:20Oh, yeah, sure.
- 52:21Well, they might give us some in the interpretation.
- 52:23Okay.
- 52:24I'll let you go first then.
- 52:25Okay.
- 52:26I just was trying to vamp.
- 52:27Yeah, I don't know.
- 52:28Some time to pull that up.
- 52:31I want to know the mushroom facts for sure.
- 52:33Okay.
- 52:34It's on page 48.
- 52:35All right.
- 52:37It's actually a pretty sizable mushroom.
- 52:39Does it look purpley in these pictures online?
- 52:43It does.
- 52:44Well, it's named Amethyst.
- 52:45It like has to be.
- 52:46Yeah.
- 52:47Okay.
- 52:48So it is edible, though, can contain high levels of arsenic if present in the soil.
- 52:55Oh, interesting.
- 52:56So like if there's arsenic in the soil, it'll like absorb it up.
- 53:00Yeah.
- 53:01Yeah.
- 53:02Which I think would be true of like most plants.
- 53:05Well, I mean, maybe not most plants because I feel like not all plants will absorb certain
- 53:11nutrients, but or different things present in the soil.
- 53:15Is arsenic a nutrient?
- 53:17Well, yeah.
- 53:19But just generally speaking, I think, you know, I'm, I'm no my callogist, but.
- 53:25And I need to learn how to like pronounce the name, like the actual names of these.
- 53:30Lacaria, Amethystina.
- 53:31I was probably pretty close.
- 53:34Yeah.
- 53:35I think it sounds.
- 53:36Yeah.
- 53:37Lacaria.
- 53:38Lacaria.
- 53:39Yeah.
- 53:40Do you want me to look for pronunciation?
- 53:41If you want.
- 53:42Okay.
- 53:43Why not?
- 53:44Why not, you know?
- 53:45Why not a fuck not?
- 53:46Yeah.
- 53:47So how you said it?
- 53:48Okay.
- 53:49Pretty close.
- 53:50I wasn't way off.
- 53:51Yeah.
- 53:52No, you were right on the money.
- 53:53Okay.
- 53:54So I found in leaf litter in woodlands and under beach trees.
- 54:00The Amethyst deceiver is an amazing violet color, which during wet weather will show a deep
- 54:06purple.
- 54:07It's very pretty.
- 54:08Yeah.
- 54:09Two others are purple, flannel, and not that we know of.
- 54:13Not yet.
- 54:15During dry weather, when it mature, when it matures, as we mature, the cap changes to a very
- 54:23pale, almost white color, making this mushroom look similar to the other mushrooms that can
- 54:31be poisonous.
- 54:33Interesting.
- 54:34So I thought that was interesting.
- 54:35It's a deceiver.
- 54:36Yeah.
- 54:37Yeah.
- 54:38But it looks similar to something like a human, but isn't like it's deceiving you.
- 54:44Big old faker, baker.
- 54:45You're not all on Bajak.
- 54:47Yeah.
- 54:48I found a picture that it shows when the mushroom cap sort of flattens out.
- 54:55And it has sort of a depression in the center.
- 54:58It looks like sort of like a little kind of looks like a bubble.
- 55:01Oh, I like bubbles.
- 55:05And that's it typically appears as the center of the cap, like kind of as it as it all flattens
- 55:10out.
- 55:11Oh, interesting.
- 55:12Interesting.
- 55:13Was there any more facts?
- 55:14I think that was it for kind of like the facts.
- 55:15We're going to go into the card meaning after that.
- 55:18Okay.
- 55:19Yeah.
- 55:20So average mushroom height, four to six centimeters average cap width, 1.5 to five.
- 55:29So it's not like a huge is it longer than normal?
- 55:34Is it a longer mushroom?
- 55:37Yeah.
- 55:39It's also found in the UK.
- 55:41Oh, which I thought was interesting.
- 55:44It's interesting because like I didn't originally add in the UK because I think there was just like
- 55:50one story.
- 55:51But then because of your not burberry scarf, I added the UK.
- 55:57Yeah.
- 55:58I'm scrolling through because I did notice a couple of different things.
- 56:03Just sort of like fun facts.
- 56:04And this is a UK based website actually.
- 56:09So they've got some really cool pictures of it.
- 56:12So it grows in coniferous and deciduous forests.
- 56:17When young, it's a distinctive, deep purple color, but it's bright color fades with age and
- 56:23weathering making it difficult to identify.
- 56:26I guess that's pretty much what you already said.
- 56:29This is interesting though, but yeah.
- 56:32The color changes kind of like the with the philonym and shirt.
- 56:35Yeah.
- 56:36Maybe as he ages, he changes different to different colored shirts.
- 56:39I mean, maybe.
- 56:41It's a bit of a spewing nonsense at this point.
- 56:43Although edible, it looks similar to the poisonous lilac fiber cap.
- 56:49So now we know what it, like what it's poisonous, at least one of the poisonous counterparts,
- 56:58what that is and what it looks like.
- 57:01I don't know if you saw any pictures that show sort of the underside of the mushroom.
- 57:05That's where they call it like the gills.
- 57:08Oh, yeah, the gills.
- 57:10They're purple too.
- 57:11Because if you think of like that sort of traditional red toadish, it's like red on one
- 57:19side and then the underside is kind of a off white.
- 57:23This one, it's like a lighter purple on the underside maybe, but it's like the purple
- 57:28carries through like the whole mushroom.
- 57:31Like even the stem has a purple hue.
- 57:34It shows it in the little picture on the card.
- 57:37Like it shows the from under view and then it also shows like a top of a shorter one.
- 57:41So you could see like that little poke butthole that you were talking about all the time.
- 57:47They look so strange in some of these pictures.
- 57:50I'm going to send you this one because it's like the early, early stage.
- 57:55It's super cute.
- 57:56Oh, it's so cute.
- 57:59Yeah.
- 58:00It just looks so weird.
- 58:02It's like purple thing coming out of these brown leaves like the sticky wet dirty forest.
- 58:08Obviously it's not a very large mushroom.
- 58:11It's super tiny in that shop because it's like very, that looks like very beginning stages
- 58:17but it kind of looks like a dick.
- 58:19Not gonna lie.
- 58:21I found a couple of pictures where I was like that is legitimately a penis.
- 58:25Ah, penis mushrooms.
- 58:27Alright.
- 58:28So I'll let you get into it.
- 58:30Let's get into this card meaning here.
- 58:33It says the deceiver mushroom comes to let you know that things may not be what they seem.
- 58:41Okay.
- 58:42Okay.
- 58:43Say more because I kind of felt like that went without saying.
- 58:46But it's just interesting to like see it because he comes to you and like some people see
- 58:53him before like really like high-strangeness things happen.
- 58:56So yeah.
- 58:57Yeah.
- 59:00That was just interesting to me that's like the first sentence of this card.
- 59:03You may be seeing things the wrong way or there is deceit of some kind appearing before
- 59:09you.
- 59:10Not all deceit is bad.
- 59:12Oh, okay.
- 59:14It can be a blessing in disguise.
- 59:16It may not be a conscious thing.
- 59:19Are you deceiving yourself about something?
- 59:22Are you not allowing yourself to see what is right in front of you because you haven't
- 59:26taken the time to truly see it?
- 59:29Yeah.
- 59:30Like maybe if you wake up in the middle of the night and there's a man in flannel at the
- 59:33end of your bed and you snap your eyes back closed and just hope that it'll go away.
- 59:39Yeah.
- 59:40I mean, yeah.
- 59:41Usually he just like disappears though right in front of your eyes.
- 59:44So that's kind of interesting.
- 59:45I don't know.
- 59:46If you like weren't scared or anything and you just kept looking at him like would he
- 59:50stay?
- 59:51I'm sure there are stories like that.
- 59:54Stay there.

- 1:02:35I'm sure there are stories like that.
- 1:02:36Are we going to speak in riddles?
- 1:02:40Basically.
- 1:02:41Obviously.
- 1:02:42When things appear to be one thing, but are actually another,
- 1:02:46your intuition will know.
- 1:02:47Clearly, it does.
- 1:02:49Your intuition is your soul.
- 1:02:51I must say, soup, your soup compass.
- 1:02:54Your intuition is your soul compass.
- 1:02:56Trust it implicitly.
- 1:02:58Well, it is soup season as we briefly discussed earlier.
- 1:03:02You got to get muzzboone.
- 1:03:06Soup season.
- 1:03:07Soup season less cheers because we actually can without bumping shit.
- 1:03:10So smooth.
- 1:03:11Was it cute in the camera?
- 1:03:13I think so.
- 1:03:14You guys, was it cute?
- 1:03:15Was it cute?
- 1:03:16Look at us.
- 1:03:17Are we cute?
- 1:03:18If you don't think we are, don't tell us.
- 1:03:19Yeah, maybe just cute.
- 1:03:20Yeah, just cute.
- 1:03:21Sometimes assumptions are made about people or situations.
- 1:03:26And this can come from a limited understanding or lack of interest
- 1:03:30in really getting to know more.
- 1:03:32Take the time to really observe and research the situation
- 1:03:36until you are 100% sure of what you're looking at.
- 1:03:39Don't let looks be deceiving.
- 1:03:41Interesting.
- 1:03:42That is so interesting because of the fact that there is this other podcast
- 1:03:48totally diving deep and researching this whole thing, trying to figure out what it is.
- 1:03:52I went hardcore on listening to every single episode to go deep on this reason.
- 1:03:59I went deep on this research.
- 1:04:00I probably didn't really need to go that deep on, but I can't help it.
- 1:04:04Well, you were down the rabbit hole.
- 1:04:06Well, down the rabbit hole.
- 1:04:08That was a really good card for this one, I think.
- 1:04:12Yeah, it was.
- 1:04:13Good decision.
- 1:04:14Yeah.
- 1:04:15So weird that it brought up every single question and things that we were talking about.
- 1:04:20Yeah, it really did.
- 1:04:21Really did.
- 1:04:22Really did.
- 1:04:23I think we got what we needed from this one.
- 1:04:26Yeah, we did.
- 1:04:27Should we do the thing that we do?
- 1:04:30Yeah, probably.
- 1:04:31Okay.
- 1:04:32Have a previous day.
- 1:04:34We'll see you next Tuesday.
- 1:04:37We'll see you next Tuesday.
- 1:04:38We're in the forest.
- 1:04:39Or in your bedroom.
- 1:04:41Yeah.
- 1:04:42Standing by your bed, staring at you.
- 1:04:45Gichoflannel.
- 1:04:46Gichoflannel.
- 1:04:47Or your oversized European scarf.
- 1:04:51I wonder if wearing a panel would deter a panel man from showing up to you?
- 1:04:56He's like, oh, I'm already here.
- 1:04:59Or yeah, the deception thing, like seeing another mushroom that looks like you, but it's not.
- 1:05:05So I'm just going to take this and I'm just going to turn it into a night out.
- 1:05:09Yes, yes.
- 1:05:10You know, that's what this is now.
- 1:05:12Always sleep and flood from now on.
- 1:05:14Alrighty.
- 1:05:15We solved it.
- 1:05:16Did it.
- 1:05:17Asked and answered.
- 1:05:20Plenal man.
- 1:05:21Plenal man.
- 1:05:29What is it?
- 1:05:30It's fall, y'all.
- 1:05:31Oh, it's corn.
- 1:05:33It's corn.
- 1:05:34It's corn.
- 1:05:35It's a big lump of knobs and it does have the juice.
- 1:05:38It does have the juice.
- 1:05:39So funny.
- 1:05:40So at my job, there's like a puppy and she has this corn.
- 1:05:44It's like a giant rubber corn and just loves it.
- 1:05:47And every single time I see that fucking thing, I'm just like, it has the juice.
- 1:05:51I can't not say it.
- 1:05:53So anyway, no, you're not a monster.
- 1:05:57Corn is fall, beamed.
- 1:05:59Yeah.
- 1:06:00So that totally fits in with this episode.
- 1:06:01We don't have to cut it out.
- 1:06:02No, not at all. pnwhauntsandhomicides@.com
