- 0:22I'm your host, Esther Yunkin. I'm a registered nurse helping women uncover their
- 0:26root causes and regain energy.

- 0:33Check out the Holistic Hashimoto's course. It will help you identify your unique
- 0:37triggers and root causes so that you can focus your own energy on what really
- 0:42matters for your health.
- 0:43Are you ready to explore a new strategy for thriving with Hashimoto's? Let's dive in.
- 0:48This is the Hashimoto's Health Lab. I am sure that you have a story like the
- 0:52one I'm going to tell you.
- 0:53So if you have a chronic health condition like Hashimoto's, like any autoimmune
- 0:58problem, you have been sick for years.
- 1:01On average, it takes women four years and four different specialists to get diagnosed.
- 1:06You've been dealing with things. You've been digging into it.
- 1:08You've been trying to figure out what's going on.
- 1:10You've been trying to figure out your root causes, how to fix things.
- 1:13That's why you're listening to this episode.
- 1:15And hopefully that's why you have been through the Holistic Hashimoto's program,
- 1:20Holistic Hashimoto's course. I can't decide which name is better.
- 1:24Anyway, in that course, I help you figure it all out.
- 1:27Well, I was on a call with somebody. She was actually trying to get me to pay
- 1:31to be on her podcast, but I could tell she had another angle as well.
- 1:35And I was just waiting for it.
- 1:36You know, you know that conversation.
- 1:39Like she's asking specific pointed questions and she thinks that she knows more
- 1:44than me about what I need to do.
- 1:47You've been in that conversation before, right? Well, it finally turns out that
- 1:51she had a product that she was trying to sell me and she thought this product
- 1:55was going to cure everybody She didn't use the word cure because according to
- 1:59the FTC You can't but she told me that so many people get completely better They're, you know,
- 2:06they don't have Hashimoto's anymore when they use her product And finally I was like.
- 2:12I don't know, she asked me something about one of my root causes.
- 2:15And I was like, yes, I live in Minnesota. And one of my root causes is the cold.
- 2:20And she couldn't counter that. And it took all of the wind out of her sails,
- 2:24because she couldn't sell me anything to counter that specific stressor that I deal with.
- 2:30And if you've listened to this podcast for a long time, you know that every
- 2:33winter, I do have a flare because of the stressor of the cold.
- 2:38And is her product helpful?
- 2:39I'm sure it is. I'm sure it's helpful for a lot of people. But you have to know
- 2:43your own root causes and triggers and then how to counteract those,
- 2:47how to fix those, how to address those.
- 2:49And for the cold, I invested in a sauna.
- 2:53And that's what we're going to talk about in this super short episode is the far infrared sauna.
- 2:59Now, back when I was in elementary school, I passed out for the first time and it was in a sauna.
- 3:04So since that time, I have always known that I am heat sensitive.
- 3:08If I go in a hot tub or in a sauna, I am pretty quick to throw up and pass out.
- 3:14Not a fun experience. So when I was looking at saunas and specifically at getting
- 3:20warm, because I want to address that trigger, and then also the exposome.
- 3:25Did we talk about that last week, right?
- 3:27The cumulative exposure of chemicals and toxins and different things against your body.
- 3:34The sauna can help you get rid of those.
- 3:37Last week, we talked about water filtration so that we kind of lower what's
- 3:41going in we can lower the new things but how do we get rid of the old things
- 3:48sweating is a huge way that we can get rid of those so saunas in general.
- 3:55Can help you sweat that out. Far infrared saunas, or F-I-R, far infrared,
- 4:00they penetrate deeper than traditional saunas so that you can sweat at a lower temperature.
- 4:06And that is key if you have a heat intolerance, which a lot of people with Hashimoto's do.
- 4:13We get cold really easy. So then our families are like, well, you must love the heat.
- 4:18They're like, no, not actually. I'm a Goldilocks person.
- 4:21I don't like the cold and I don't like the heat. It's not that I don't like them.
- 4:25My body doesn't like them. So when I was looking at saunas, the far infrared
- 4:30was appealing to me because number one, I can have a lower temperature and it penetrates deeper.
- 4:36So you get more junk out. And that is important.
- 4:40We want to get rid of the toxins and chemicals that are residing in us.
- 4:46A lot of times your body wraps those things in a layer of fat and protects them in their fat cells.
- 4:52So if you're losing weight, you know, if you're using the MindBody GLP-1 system
- 4:57that I've talked about a lot, you also want to do the Protandim NRF2 because
- 5:02that helps your detox pathways.
- 5:04As you release weight, you're going to release the things that your body has
- 5:08stored, has bubble wrapped in fat and stored for safety.
- 5:13As you use a sauna, you also want to do something that helps your body get rid of those things.
- 5:19So far infrared saunas are amazing.
- 5:22Another thing I was looking at when I was looking at the far infrared was I
- 5:26wanted something that was, you know, that was clean.
- 5:28I don't want something that's full of chemicals and smells funny because that
- 5:33would defeat the purpose, right?
- 5:34So I was looking at different big, you know, the big box ones where you can
- 5:39put it in your garage. You can go into it.
- 5:42One person, two person. There's a lot of options when it comes to saunas.
- 5:46But then one person sent me one that has a head out option.
- 5:50So I had not been looking at far infrared saunas that have like the cloth that
- 5:56zip up kind of like a pop-up tent.
- 5:58But this one, I was immediately intrigued because your head is out.
- 6:03And that means you are even more protected from the drastic temperature.
- 6:10And I was like, oh my goodness, this is what I need. And so I got it.
- 6:13And I will tell you next spring how things
- 6:16go because I got it at the very tail end of winter but this
- 6:19is a fast way for me number one to warm up and number
- 6:23two to release the chemicals or anything that is in my exposome whatever those
- 6:30toxins right if you know your root causes and triggers and if you have environmental
- 6:35chemicals as one of your root causes or triggers or if you like me can't handle the cold,
- 6:42maybe looking into a sauna would be something that you want to do also.
- 6:47Now a sauna is not super cheap. This is going to be the most expensive tool
- 6:53that we talk about this summer.
- 6:54I was able to do it because my grandpa died.
- 6:58He was 97. He had Alzheimer's. He was very ready to go, but I got a small inheritance
- 7:03from him and my husband and I talked and this was one thing that was going to
- 7:07have long-term effects.
- 7:09If I can help with my every single winter trigger of the cold...
- 7:15As well as getting rid of toxins, this is going to impact so many things.
- 7:21And so that is how we looked at this investment into a sauna.
- 7:25Because a far infrared sauna is an investment. I'm not going to quibble about
- 7:31that. But here's what it does.
- 7:32It helps you get rid of heavy metals. You sweat out lead.
- 7:37You sweat out other heavy metals. You sweat out VOCs.
- 7:41Those are the organic compounds, volatile organic compounds, the smelly things, BPA.
- 7:46You know, we know to buy BPA-free plastic now, but we didn't always.
- 7:51And the saunas detox or help your body detox from those things.
- 7:56It lowers your thyroid hormone disruption.
- 8:00Now, if you have a sauna, you always want to start slow and low if you can.
- 8:06So I started actually with five-minute sessions because I was kind of worried.
- 8:11I didn't want to throw up and pass out like in my history.
- 8:14So start with super short sessions just a couple times a week.
- 8:18Make sure you're hydrating very, very well.
- 8:21You will sweat a lot. That's the goal.
- 8:23So hydrate very well and then increase as tolerated.
- 8:29The cost of an in-home far infrared sauna can range from around $150 to like thousands.
- 8:38You can look at the different options available and and figure out what is right
- 8:43for you what's right for your budget what is right for your household where
- 8:47it's going to fit I have my this is not.
- 8:50I was not planning on keeping mine in my bedroom, but I have mine in my bedroom
- 8:53right now because I love to hop in it for just like two or three minutes right before bed.
- 8:58Because even in the summer, my feet are freezing cold down to the bones and
- 9:03hopping in the sauna for just a couple minutes warms me up so that I can fall asleep faster.
- 9:08I don't want to be in there for too long because you don't want to go to bed
- 9:11hot, then you don't sleep well either.
- 9:13So figure out what's going to work for you in your home. That is what all of
- 9:17these tools, what I'm doing this series for is so that you can figure out what
- 9:21tools work for you, for your time, for your season, for your budget.
- 9:26For your life, and figure out how to implement the best things possible so that
- 9:31you can address your root causes and your triggers.
- 9:34I bought my sauna from relaxsaunas.com straight from the company and I got the
- 9:40silver one that you sit in. I just didn't want to lay in my own sweat.
- 9:44I did look at the bed one because both of them have the head out option.
- 9:47It is $1,700 right now as I record.
- 9:51And if you use the coupon code HWH for health with Hashimoto's,
- 9:55you will save $100 on that.
- 9:58So I hope that this episode is helpful for you as you are looking for new tools
- 10:02and options for having better health with Hashimoto's.
