- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey girls, Gone Hallmark listeners, wanted to take a quick
- 0:02Speaker 1: minute to introduce you to our newest podcast, Last to
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Party. Last to the Party is a Bravo rewatch podcast,
- 0:10Speaker 1: So if we have any Bravo listeners in our Hallmark community,
- 0:13Speaker 1: this might be the podcast for you. We are going
- 0:16Speaker 1: back to the beginning, starting with Summer House season one
- 0:20Speaker 1: and recapping episode by episode. Fair warning, the content is
- 0:25Speaker 1: ever so slightly less family friendly than our Hallmark content,
- 0:28Speaker 1: but it's still the Megan and Wendy podcasting you know
- 0:31Speaker 1: and love. This is the very first Last to the
- 0:34Speaker 1: Party episode that you're going to hear, but there are
- 0:36Speaker 1: several episodes available over in the Last to the Party
- 0:40Speaker 1: feed for you to check out. Enjoy the episode. Hear
- 0:44Speaker 1: me out.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I think he's like equal part charming and also walking
- 0:48Speaker 2: red Flag.
- 1:00Speaker 1: To Last to the Party a Bravo rewatch podcast. I'm Megan,
- 1:03Speaker 1: fashionably late to all things Bravo, but make it up
- 1:05Speaker 1: for lost time. I'm Wendy.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm an og Bravo superfan who's seen it all probably
- 1:10Speaker 2: twice each week.
- 1:12Speaker 1: On Last to the Party, we're rewinding the clock and
- 1:14Speaker 1: watching Bravo shows from the very beginnings starting with season
- 1:17Speaker 1: one of Summerhouse.
- 1:18Speaker 2: That's right, we're going back to the beginning, the Kiata cookups,
- 1:22Speaker 2: Carl's full f boy era, the evolution from Twisted Tea
- 1:26Speaker 2: to lover Boy. It's a full rewatch, episode by episode.
- 1:29Speaker 1: And if you've never seen these shows, that's fine, because
- 1:32Speaker 1: I hadn't either. Think of this like watching with your
- 1:34Speaker 1: Bravo obsessed friend and your Bravo curious friend at the
- 1:37Speaker 1: same time.
- 1:38Speaker 2: New episodes drop every Friday, so grab your rose and
- 1:41Speaker 2: let's dive into this week's drama.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Now, you'd think this is season one, episode one of Summerhouse.
- 1:47Speaker 1: You'd think we wouldn't need to start this episode with
- 1:49Speaker 1: a previously on segment, but you'd be wrong, because this
- 1:53Speaker 1: episode begins as the second half of a crossover episode
- 1:57Speaker 1: of vander Pump Rules, which is a little jarring to
- 2:00Speaker 1: the viewer, and by viewer, I mean me because in
- 2:04Speaker 1: my notes it literally says episode one hot effing mess.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And then I had to text you, like, what is
- 2:09Speaker 1: going on?
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you had to come to the encyclopedia of Bravo
- 2:15Speaker 2: to kind of be like no, no, no.
- 2:16Speaker 1: No no.
- 2:17Speaker 2: This was like this was an extension episode basically of
- 2:20Speaker 2: vander Pump Roules and now it makes sense.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Okay, So anyway, let's hear a synopsis of this episode.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So season one episode once. The title is Summer House,
- 2:30Speaker 2: originally aired on January ninth, twenty seventeen. The synopsis is
- 2:36Speaker 2: Summer is here, which for this group of friends means
- 2:39Speaker 2: it's time to escape the rat race of NYC and
- 2:42Speaker 2: jet out to the Hamptons.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Wolf, I don't know who wrote this.
- 2:46Speaker 2: They've rented a weekend house in montac and this year
- 2:49Speaker 2: they've put together the perfect group, that is, if they
- 2:52Speaker 2: don't let the drama of living together get the best
- 2:55Speaker 2: of them. Twins Ashley and Lauren invite their la friend
- 2:58Speaker 2: Stacy out to see the new Digs, but she's got
- 3:02Speaker 2: her sites on their roommate Kyle. Meanwhile, longtime friends Everett
- 3:06Speaker 2: and Lindsay shock everyone by shacking up, and new guy
- 3:10Speaker 2: Carl plays the field and maybe Lauren's heartstrings.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I did not write this. Who has their eyes on Kyle?
- 3:17Speaker 1: According to some oppoite seed store see I mean does.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Okay, it doesn't, I mean, it's none of this is
- 3:25Speaker 2: completely accurate. I think I might op pull it from
- 3:28Speaker 2: the either IMDb or the Wikipedia.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Summer House page.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Hey Megan, what was your first impression of Summer House Season.
- 3:38Speaker 1: One, Episode one? Well, I feel like we start in
- 3:40Speaker 1: a weird place. My notes as mentioned say episode one
- 3:43Speaker 1: hot fucking mess because the opening is so jarring, and
- 3:48Speaker 1: we open in the middle of a crossover episode. And
- 3:50Speaker 1: if you didn't know, you don't know there's no previously
- 3:53Speaker 1: on because I understand why that doesn't exist on Perrock
- 3:59Speaker 1: on Peacock. Yeah, I wonder if upon original airing of
- 4:02Speaker 1: Summer House they did it previously on and showed that
- 4:05Speaker 1: vander Pump Rules. But my advice to anybody watching this
- 4:08Speaker 1: would be pull that vander Pump Rules episode. We'll leave
- 4:12Speaker 1: the episode number in the show notes and watch that first. Otherwise,
- 4:17Speaker 1: know that the first ten minutes you're gonna be like,
- 4:19Speaker 1: what is happening? And then ten minutes in we jump into.
- 4:22Speaker 2: What is actually the pilot episode of the season exactly now,
- 4:26Speaker 2: if I recall correctly, Because I am a huge vander
- 4:29Speaker 2: Pump fan and talk about watching things twice, I've probably
- 4:32Speaker 2: watched that twenty times. I remember the work is Twins
- 4:36Speaker 2: coming to La They had lunch with Sassy and then
- 4:42Speaker 2: that's when they pitch like Hey, you should come out
- 4:44Speaker 2: to the Hamptons for the summer whatever, right, or come
- 4:47Speaker 2: for a visit or a weekend or whatever. And then
- 4:50Speaker 2: the next thing we have is Sassy is there with
- 4:52Speaker 2: Kristin Doty and Sheena and Katie Maloney, and there's a
- 4:57Speaker 2: little bit of in this vander Pump episode they're not
- 5:00Speaker 2: all getting the long Shocker, and then they go to
- 5:04Speaker 2: that's the house. So I think that's how that worked,
- 5:08Speaker 2: if my memory surps me.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah, they're trying to get the crossover viewers.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Same thing they did with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
- 5:15Speaker 2: and vander Pump Rules. Like that led in, Like I
- 5:18Speaker 2: don't even think there was a commercial break. It led
- 5:20Speaker 2: from one show.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Interesting, now, Beverly Hills Housewives. I know it's not it's
- 5:26Speaker 1: called Real house of Beverly Hills. Came before vander Pump Rules. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: so that Beverly Hills franchise has been around for a
- 5:33Speaker 1: long time. Then.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I mean, I think my daughter was a baby and
- 5:38Speaker 2: she's she's seventy seventeen.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Okay, okay, so these are very cannibalistic shows. Well, let's
- 5:46Speaker 1: talk who we're watching this week.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Okay, I have lots to talk about.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Okay for me right up top, Kyle is obviously the
- 5:54Speaker 1: main character. He's got a lot going on.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Now.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You should know listeners that I have seen seasons eight
- 6:01Speaker 1: and nine of Summer House.
- 6:03Speaker 2: You guys, I can't believe she watches this stuff out
- 6:05Speaker 2: of order with no context.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Because what happened is recently my husband and I started
- 6:10Speaker 1: watching season nine, and then because we were watching season nine,
- 6:13Speaker 1: we finished out. We're like, well, we gotta go back
- 6:14Speaker 1: and watch season eight. I mean, I have contacts. I've
- 6:17Speaker 1: seen bits and pieces, but I think it's so funny
- 6:20Speaker 1: knowing present day Kyle and season one Kyle over and
- 6:25Speaker 1: over again. There are so many moments where I was like, man,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I bet Kyle wishes he could erase this because he
- 6:29Speaker 1: says so many things that don't age well in terms
- 6:32Speaker 1: of who he is now.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Well, what about I mean, if you're so floored by
- 6:37Speaker 2: his evolution, what about Carl's evolution?
- 6:40Speaker 1: I've got Carl is my second thought, but let's my
- 6:43Speaker 1: thoughts on Kyle. Look, he's hooking up with his ex girlfriend,
- 6:47Speaker 1: he's got hot takes on how things should go in
- 6:49Speaker 1: the house. I find it hilarious that he hates the
- 6:52Speaker 1: inter house relationship and hookups, given that his relationship will
- 6:55Speaker 1: become a main source of drama over many, many seasons
- 6:57Speaker 1: to come. It's clear he does the voiceover he talks
- 7:02Speaker 1: about being the one to arrange the Summer House. Kyle
- 7:05Speaker 1: is the nucleus around which Summer House Season one revolves.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I call him my one man show of frat boy chaos.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I love Kyle. I Am not going to even apologize
- 7:19Speaker 2: for it. Like, dude understands the assignment here. Yeah, he
- 7:22Speaker 2: knows how to make good reality TV. And just like
- 7:26Speaker 2: where we had Stossy kind of like bridge the gap
- 7:30Speaker 2: between vander Pump and Summer House. Like Stassy understood the
- 7:33Speaker 2: assignment in the first episode, like she needed to like
- 7:36Speaker 2: rile things up and like create tension between she and
- 7:39Speaker 2: Kyle and whatever, and then goes away, right, and then
- 7:41Speaker 2: Kyle just takes the torch and goes with it.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Yeah, So obviously to your point, the second person I'm
- 7:50Speaker 1: watching is carl and I wrote Carlo's King fuck boy.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I found the scene at the end of the episode
- 7:56Speaker 1: where he joins the ladies at the brunch spot and
- 7:59Speaker 1: steals their French toast. So Cringey really really. I here's
- 8:05Speaker 1: the thing you should know that I'm forty five years old.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I was never fun, I was never cool. I have
- 8:11Speaker 1: been a forty five year old woman since I was
- 8:13Speaker 1: twenty one years old. And so the Sunday brunch spot
- 8:18Speaker 1: hookup after the weekend dude joins your table was never
- 8:22Speaker 1: my vibe.
- 8:24Speaker 2: So I think it would have made me so uncomfortable
- 8:26Speaker 2: if I was there. I personally think Carl makes a
- 8:29Speaker 2: strong first impression in this episode. Hear me out.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think he's like equal.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Part charming and also walking red flag. So I hear
- 8:40Speaker 2: you like it's hard. As someone like me who has
- 8:45Speaker 2: watched his story unfold over nine years or ten years,
- 8:49Speaker 2: whatever it is, I have a little bit of a
- 8:52Speaker 2: soft heart for him in those early seasons because you
- 8:56Speaker 2: know what's coming for.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Him as he's just.
- 8:59Speaker 2: A hot mess. He's one of the baby he's a
- 9:02Speaker 2: hot mess.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I think he just slides in with like enough confidence
- 9:06Speaker 2: that that like sparks interest.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I could see that.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I love Carl. I think he's magnetic.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Do you have a favorite quote or scene from this episode?
- 9:16Speaker 2: I have a couple.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 2: First of all, Ashley talking about Lindsay quote she goes
- 9:22Speaker 2: in hard, and this is perfectly like a perfectly delivered
- 9:26Speaker 2: morning shot that doubles as foreshadowing for Lindsay's entire relationship,
- 9:31Speaker 2: the entire series. Yes, like I know from our off
- 9:37Speaker 2: Mike discussions, you don't really like Lindsay.
- 9:40Speaker 1: I don't think that's accurate. I don't dislike Lindsay, but
- 9:43Speaker 1: I what I have seen now, I've seen several episodes
- 9:47Speaker 1: of this season, and I had like a little bit
- 9:49Speaker 1: of a moment where I started to understand Lindsay further in.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But what I have seen from Lindsay is every relationship
- 9:56Speaker 1: she's in, she wants to be all in. She wants
- 9:59Speaker 1: to be all but there's always drama. I've never seen.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I've seen a few, as mentioned. I've seen season eight,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I've seen season nine. I've actually seen season two, and
- 10:08Speaker 1: season two is kind of like the after effects, like
- 10:11Speaker 1: I saw that several years ago of this relationship with Everett.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It just seems like relationship drama follows her everywhere. She
- 10:18Speaker 1: just seems to thrive in a high relationship drama environment.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I do find her super compelling, super compelling. I enjoy
- 10:27Speaker 1: watching her, but I would be surprised it would be
- 10:32Speaker 1: a welcome surprise to see her in a relationship that's
- 10:35Speaker 1: fairly drama neutral.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I just want to
- 10:40Speaker 2: preface I love Lindsay. Like I love Lindsay. I think
- 10:44Speaker 2: Lindsay Hubbard is TV gold. But also watching this back
- 10:49Speaker 2: and over so many seasons, like this is a true
- 10:52Speaker 2: masterclass in a psychoanalysis of like why this person acted
- 10:56Speaker 2: this way ten years ago, and to see how they
- 10:59Speaker 2: are are now, like it all makes sense. So I'm hoping,
- 11:04Speaker 2: like when you see the entire canon of episodes, you'll understand,
- 11:10Speaker 2: like maybe the motivations behind why these people do things.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's true. And I also think your
- 11:17Speaker 1: point about Kyle being reality TV gold, I think she
- 11:21Speaker 1: also understands the assignment. We're nine seasons in and she
- 11:25Speaker 1: is still a main character on the show, and so
- 11:27Speaker 1: I think there's something to be said for showing up
- 11:29Speaker 1: to do the job. And it's not interesting if she
- 11:31Speaker 1: and Everett are She's got a manufactured drama somehow, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: so you have to look at it as job security.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I agree, absolutely agree. A quote I loved Carl Is
- 11:42Speaker 1: talking about at the end of this episode, he hooks
- 11:45Speaker 1: up with Lauren, and he's talking about how it's like
- 11:49Speaker 1: a no brainer to hook up with his hot roommate
- 11:51Speaker 1: who obviously likes him. He just goes and it just
- 11:53Speaker 1: made me laugh out loud. I just thought, I just
- 11:56Speaker 1: I loved that moment. Carl. Look, Carl is who he is,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and in his confessionals in this season, it is absolutely
- 12:03Speaker 1: clear that he knows what he wants. It's also absolutely
- 12:07Speaker 1: clear that he and Lauren are from episode one on
- 12:09Speaker 1: a collision course with disaster one hundred percent. But I
- 12:14Speaker 1: just I was like, yeah, Carl is not pretending to
- 12:17Speaker 1: be someone he is not.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Right speaking of somebody who wants to pretend that he
- 12:22Speaker 2: is something he's not. Kyle says, I don't want to
- 12:25Speaker 2: romance into my forties. Kyle is now in his forties
- 12:30Speaker 2: and like, you know, really into going out still. I mean,
- 12:33Speaker 2: he's kind of pulled it back a little bit in
- 12:35Speaker 2: the current season, but it took several seasons for him
- 12:40Speaker 2: to dial it back and in the like going out
- 12:43Speaker 2: and hanging out with my bros And.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Being but he's still even in season nine, has not
- 12:47Speaker 1: fully dialed it back. Like that is still a point
- 12:49Speaker 1: of contention and.
- 12:50Speaker 2: His wife, Oh what I agree this season, in particular
- 12:54Speaker 2: the one that is currently airing right now, like I
- 12:56Speaker 2: feel like he is a more subdue Kyle Cook.
- 13:01Speaker 1: My other one that I.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Really loved from Carl is this was he he says,
- 13:05Speaker 2: unlike those la chicks, we have real jobs. And I
- 13:08Speaker 2: think this line is so savage and instantly memorable. But
- 13:12Speaker 2: what I liked about it is that it did ground
- 13:17Speaker 2: the episode and showing that like these Summer's sharehouse people
- 13:23Speaker 2: have real jobs during the week and like intense jobs
- 13:26Speaker 2: during the week, and then the weekend is like for
- 13:28Speaker 2: them to like really let loose. And I like that
- 13:33Speaker 2: we had gotten some montage of them in the city.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yeah, the stage montage in the city makes me laugh,
- 13:40Speaker 1: But what I think is really funny is like the
- 13:42Speaker 1: fact that they have real jobs will come to an
- 13:44Speaker 1: end real quick a few seasons absolutely.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Just like the servers at Serves Yes, We're not serving Yes.
- 13:51Speaker 1: My final favorite quote and scene is Kyle as soon
- 13:53Speaker 1: as he sees Carl and Lauren hooking up, It's like, well,
- 13:56Speaker 1: happen to my wing man? Because Carl had big plans
- 13:58Speaker 1: to be Kyle's wing down for the summer and Carlton
- 14:01Speaker 1: garl what.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I think is funny is we will see that happen
- 14:05Speaker 2: again way down the road, not with these two, but
- 14:09Speaker 2: with other future Summer House I think you know who
- 14:12Speaker 2: I'm referring to, Jesse Solomon and oh yeah.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Let's take a quick break
- 14:18Speaker 1: and we're gonna come right back to talk what we
- 14:19Speaker 1: liked about this episode. Hey cook, question, are you secretly
- 14:25Speaker 1: a fan of Hallmark movies? You know, the small town charm,
- 14:29Speaker 1: the twinkly lights, the same three actors falling in love
- 14:31Speaker 1: over and over again. Yeah, we see you, and we've
- 14:35Speaker 1: got the perfect podcast for you. It's called Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 14:39Speaker 1: It's hosted by us Megan and Wendy, and it's where
- 14:42Speaker 1: we recap and review all the new Hallmark movies and
- 14:45Speaker 1: series and even some throwback fan favorites with zero shame
- 14:49Speaker 1: and lots of opinions. Whether you're a diehard fan or
- 14:53Speaker 1: just here for the cozy vibes, we've got you covered.
- 14:55Speaker 1: So after this episode, come hang out with us on
- 14:58Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. We promise it's way more fun than
- 15:01Speaker 1: pretending you don't love a good Christmas. In July, Hey, Wendy,
- 15:07Speaker 1: what did you like about this episode?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Well, I had a hard time coming up with what
- 15:12Speaker 2: I liked about episode one because one, the beginning is
- 15:16Speaker 2: so disjointed. Yeah, and to like a pilot episode of
- 15:21Speaker 2: a scripted show, there are so many characters and characters
- 15:25Speaker 2: I'm you know, cast members, you know, and a lot
- 15:28Speaker 2: of storylines that need to be established. So it's a lot.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And I have told people many many times over the
- 15:35Speaker 2: years to entirely skip season one, yes.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Including me.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I know.
- 15:40Speaker 1: That's why I've seen season two before.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Because I don't. I think season one and season two
- 15:45Speaker 2: are so different from each other, and the cast changes
- 15:48Speaker 2: over a little bit and all of that stuff. So
- 15:50Speaker 2: I don't love episode one, huh. Like I'm not gonna
- 15:54Speaker 2: come here and be like I'm a huge Summer House fan.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I am.
- 15:58Speaker 2: But season two and on. Yeah, So here are the
- 16:01Speaker 2: things that I liked about this episode one. I mentioned
- 16:05Speaker 2: it earlier. I do like how they set up their
- 16:08Speaker 2: weekday versus their weekend lives. I enjoy seeing the cast
- 16:11Speaker 2: return to their real jobs in the city and then
- 16:16Speaker 2: blowing off steam on the weekends. I liked that structure
- 16:21Speaker 2: a lot.
- 16:22Speaker 1: We have lost that in future seasons.
- 16:26Speaker 2: It's a lot in this season, Like I think they
- 16:28Speaker 2: were leaning really hard into you know, we're professionals, we
- 16:32Speaker 2: war cards, so we can play hard. Yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 16:36Speaker 2: The second thing I really liked I enjoyed Lauren and
- 16:39Speaker 2: Carl's chemistry. I thought it was teed up perfectly. Lots
- 16:43Speaker 2: of flirty, lots of on camera kisses the whole end,
- 16:48Speaker 2: like the cliffhanger of them in the bedroom together getting
- 16:52Speaker 2: ready to hook up, Like perfect cliffhanger for an episode
- 16:56Speaker 2: that makes you want to watch the next one.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I mean, Braben knows what it's doing. Sure.
- 17:01Speaker 2: And finally, the thing I really really loved is back
- 17:05Speaker 2: to Kyle's confessions. I think he's like MVP of Talking Heads.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I love his jokes.
- 17:12Speaker 2: He's funny but also self aware that I find him
- 17:17Speaker 2: super likable.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I like Kyle too. We haven't talked a lot about
- 17:20Speaker 1: the ladies of the show, but I really enjoyed the
- 17:23Speaker 1: work as twins. I find it really funny when we
- 17:26Speaker 1: see the alternating confessions between Lauren and Carl, and basically
- 17:29Speaker 1: Lauren's like, well, I'm all in, and Carl's like, yeah,
- 17:31Speaker 1: Lauren's cool, but I don't really want to be tied
- 17:33Speaker 1: down to an intern house relationship. They're practically screaming foreshadowing
- 17:38Speaker 1: To me, I like Ashley trying to be the voice
- 17:40Speaker 1: of reason, like she sees straight through Carl and she
- 17:42Speaker 1: knows who her sister is and she's like put the
- 17:45Speaker 1: brakes on girl. And Lauren in later episodes is like
- 17:48Speaker 1: Ashley's been an old Mary lady forever, like she doesn't
- 17:50Speaker 1: understand what it's like to be out here dating, which
- 17:53Speaker 1: perhaps is true, like she has a different perspective. But also,
- 17:56Speaker 1: I mean Lauren like does dive headfirst into this showmance
- 18:00Speaker 1: interhouse romance. And I don't know if this is a
- 18:02Speaker 1: hot take or not, but I I love the workst Twins.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I find them really interesting to watch on camera. However,
- 18:08Speaker 1: I did look up Lauren's Instagram and she very recently
- 18:11Speaker 1: posted from a tour of the West Wing, and if
- 18:15Speaker 1: it's not giving super maga vibes, I don't know what
- 18:21Speaker 1: I was disappointing.
- 18:23Speaker 2: I hate no mean details.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Finally, while we're talking about the Workst Wins, have I
- 18:28Speaker 1: asked you this? Have you seen the TikTok trend where
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's like I'm so hungry I could eat it, and
- 18:32Speaker 1: then like you name someone, of course, have I told
- 18:34Speaker 1: you the work is Twin related. When Jesse Solomon was
- 18:37Speaker 1: with Carl recently in a TikTok and he was like,
- 18:40Speaker 1: I'm so hungry I could eat a work as twin
- 18:42Speaker 1: and Carl's face was like, h It was funny in
- 18:46Speaker 1: that moment because like, it's such a deep cut. But
- 18:48Speaker 1: it's also funny because I suspect Carl's maybe not super
- 18:51Speaker 1: up with like every TikTok trend, like the trend you yeah,
- 18:54Speaker 1: seem to understand what was haph like totally through him, So.
- 18:58Speaker 2: He was like the high school history. He sure that
- 19:00Speaker 2: the kids pull this one on. He's like, what are
- 19:02Speaker 2: you talking about? Yeah, poor Carl. Poor, I'm telling you
- 19:07Speaker 2: Carl goes from like hot foy to like dad energy
- 19:11Speaker 2: so hard.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Wow, did you have any wishes for this episode?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah? I got a whole bunch. Oh well, let me
- 19:18Speaker 2: hear him less of the Kyle Stascy hot tub disaster
- 19:23Speaker 2: look even on a rewatch. I'm like super embarrassed, like
- 19:28Speaker 2: for both of them in this moment. Yeah, like I
- 19:31Speaker 2: can't figure out No, actually, I feel like Kyle is
- 19:35Speaker 2: being Kyle. Kyle is super drunk and just so douchey
- 19:39Speaker 2: in this moment, right, Ye, and I feel like Stascy's
- 19:42Speaker 2: there to do the job. But it feels manufactured, and
- 19:47Speaker 2: it just makes me so uncomfortable to watch.
- 19:49Speaker 1: They're like, be annoyed with Kyle. This is the assignment.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Kyle's drunk, be annoyed.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And what I don't like about it is because
- 19:58Speaker 2: I once was a huge, big time I'm Stossy fan,
- 20:01Speaker 2: and I have seen her be like so sharp with
- 20:05Speaker 2: her tongue that she'll just give a lashing. And this
- 20:08Speaker 2: felt almost weak, a little bit weak, like she was
- 20:13Speaker 2: offended that he wasn't into her, which no, but he
- 20:18Speaker 2: kind of was into her, but then insulting her, Yeah
- 20:22Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like she like she was
- 20:24Speaker 2: feeling hurt that he wasn't complimenting her in a way
- 20:28Speaker 2: that she wanted to. It just it felt was super manufactured.
- 20:33Speaker 2: It just made me uncomfortable to watch that. So I'm
- 20:34Speaker 2: like skipped the first ten minutes of the show. Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 2: for sure, genuinely like pick up after the first commercial,
- 20:40Speaker 2: hundred percent two more things that I wished for. I
- 20:44Speaker 2: need less four am moaning from Amanda Loo. I'm no prude,
- 20:48Speaker 2: but the sex sounds it's a lot.
- 20:51Speaker 1: It was a lot. I was like, oh my god,
- 20:54Speaker 1: I know she's twenty four, I think in this episode
- 20:57Speaker 1: and doesn't have the like, oh shit, my day digital footprint.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I feel like she's like, doesn't think like this show
- 21:03Speaker 1: is still going to be on nine seasons from now,
- 21:05Speaker 1: and I'm going to be one of the main characters,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and now I'm having to look back on me in
- 21:09Speaker 1: all of my booty calls.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not shaming her by any means.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'm not either, but I don't want the moaning. I
- 21:15Speaker 1: do feel like this season was, from what I've seen,
- 21:17Speaker 1: heavy on the like pull the covers over our head,
- 21:20Speaker 1: watch the covers, move motions, early Big Brother Day totally,
- 21:25Speaker 1: and that's I don't need it.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Right. We can read between the lines, but maybe some
- 21:32Speaker 2: like younger.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Generations who watches a show? Do you want the moaning?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Email us Last Oftheparty pod at gmail dot com.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Here's the last thing I wished for. And we haven't
- 21:41Speaker 2: even brought this person up yet. Is Christina?
- 21:44Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, but I didn't realize she's not an actual
- 21:48Speaker 1: house guest. Like in episode four, they're like, she's she's
- 21:51Speaker 1: a guest.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I think she is like a recurring a guest that
- 21:55Speaker 2: would come out every weekend, but she's not on the lease.
- 21:58Speaker 1: I guess that's what it seems like because like in
- 22:01Speaker 1: a future episode, they're like, yeah, Christina's got to do
- 22:03Speaker 1: the blow up mattress because she's the guest this weekend.
- 22:05Speaker 1: It was weird, right, But in.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Terms of Christina, I need way less complaining from Christina.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I need her to do something more than stirring up drama.
- 22:15Speaker 2: What is noteworthy to meet in this particular episode is
- 22:18Speaker 2: a conversation she has between herself and Lindsay about being
- 22:22Speaker 2: mutually bad friends to each other. And this, like I
- 22:26Speaker 2: said earlier when I mentioned Jesse Solomon and West Losing Wingman,
- 22:32Speaker 2: this conversation about them being like, well you're a bad friend. No,
- 22:35Speaker 2: you're a bad friend. We see this come up again
- 22:37Speaker 2: with Lindsay and someone else. So it makes me pause
- 22:41Speaker 2: and wonder.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Like, is Lindsay kind of a bad friend?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Like when she gets wrapped up in her relationships, do
- 22:47Speaker 2: her friendships go to the wayside?
- 22:49Speaker 1: I wonder, well, when Christina is calling her on a
- 22:52Speaker 1: bad friend, Lindsay does not receive that information. She's like, Okay,
- 22:54Speaker 1: that's fine, but and like she moves on to her
- 22:57Speaker 1: complaints about Christina. There at no point does Lindsay stop
- 23:01Speaker 1: to be introspective and think like have I been a
- 23:03Speaker 1: bad friend? Not in their conversation, and neither in season eighty. Look,
- 23:10Speaker 1: I just have one real wish and it's we learn
- 23:13Speaker 1: basically nothing about Stephen in this episode, and we get
- 23:16Speaker 1: more of him in the next episode. So he's getting
- 23:18Speaker 1: his moment, and I think his role increases throughout this season.
- 23:21Speaker 1: But but are you kind of glad though?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Because there's so much like there's this person and what
- 23:26Speaker 2: their backstory is in this person and what their backstory.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I know they got to feed it to us slowly,
- 23:31Speaker 1: but also I was like, who's Steven? What's he doing?
- 23:32Speaker 1: Like I don't know anything about him? It's time for
- 23:36Speaker 1: digit see that. Why don't you explain what digit see
- 23:39Speaker 1: that is? Did you? That was originally born out of
- 23:42Speaker 1: our other podcast, Girls Gone Hallmark, where we would call
- 23:44Speaker 1: out continuity errors or weird little editing takes, And it's
- 23:48Speaker 1: a little bit different here, right, this is going to
- 23:51Speaker 1: be like just maybe moments that made you laugh, things
- 23:54Speaker 1: you might have caught because it's one of our favorite
- 23:56Speaker 1: segments over on Girls Gone Hallmark. So not every episode
- 24:00Speaker 1: is going to happen. Did you see that moment? Necessarily?
- 24:03Speaker 1: But I got a couple let me hear. It's actually
- 24:05Speaker 1: one big did you see that? And that is that
- 24:08Speaker 1: I mentioned it before. But I have to wonder if
- 24:10Speaker 1: Kyle hates that this season exists, because many of his
- 24:12Speaker 1: comments kind of age badly if you look back. They're
- 24:16Speaker 1: talking about their summer goals, and Kyle says that his
- 24:18Speaker 1: goal is to grow up because staying out until four
- 24:19Speaker 1: am isn't as cute as it once was. Cut to
- 24:21Speaker 1: season nine, he and his wife are finding about the
- 24:23Speaker 1: fact that he still stays out until four am.
- 24:26Speaker 2: First of all, can we talk about staying out until
- 24:28Speaker 2: four am?
- 24:29Speaker 1: Okay, hold on, we need to talk about the fact
- 24:33Speaker 1: that the hardest part of the show for me is
- 24:36Speaker 1: that I feel so tired for them.
- 24:39Speaker 2: I mean, I don't want to explicitly call it out,
- 24:41Speaker 2: but there is no way a human is functioning until
- 24:46Speaker 2: four am with the amount of alcohol they drink without
- 24:51Speaker 2: some sort of other stimulant, an upper.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Something, yeah, regularly, right, It's not like one drunken four
- 24:59Speaker 1: am night every freaking weekend.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Now two nights at a minimum alone, Like I mean,
- 25:05Speaker 2: like back to back.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so I really wonder because, look, I'm old. As mentioned,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I was never fun, but the idea of driving three
- 25:12Speaker 1: to four hours each way for a weekend, every single
- 25:16Speaker 1: weekend exhausts me. And so I don't know how they
- 25:19Speaker 1: do it. Especially in this season, we see that oftentimes
- 25:22Speaker 1: they drive back on Monday mornings and then go to work.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I'll wake up before am and we can go come on.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I was like, absolutely not, and so I don't I
- 25:33Speaker 1: admit that I don't understand that lifestyle, but I don't
- 25:36Speaker 1: know how he's still doing it this many years, like
- 25:38Speaker 1: at his age, and I'm some kind. It's hilarious that
- 25:42Speaker 1: he's so annoyed with Lindsay and Everett being in the
- 25:45Speaker 1: house as a couple. He was like, summer houses were
- 25:48Speaker 1: not meant for couples. Again, cut to the next eight seasons,
- 25:52Speaker 1: he is a couple in the house. Yeah, there's always
- 25:55Speaker 1: couples in the house.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So yeah, I wonder what their share houses look like.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Before they actually started filming this show, was it truly
- 26:03Speaker 2: just all singles and they wanted to be out there
- 26:07Speaker 2: in the Hampton's or a montalk and they were just
- 26:09Speaker 2: like hooking up.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I mean it seems like a hug up is the
- 26:12Speaker 1: name of the game. Sure, yeah, where there are never couples.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Come on, I mean I don't know.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Well, I guess I'll never know. Here are my two
- 26:19Speaker 2: digit See that one is Sassy's self. Tam was hard
- 26:24Speaker 2: to ignore. I thought it was terrible.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Didn't notice not at all.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Like when she's in the jacuzzi and and she's got
- 26:32Speaker 2: like her arms up and like underneath her arms are
- 26:34Speaker 2: just completely white compared to everywhere else on her body.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Attention. These are things that drive me crazy.
- 26:41Speaker 2: The other thing you will soon see the editing on
- 26:45Speaker 2: this show is it's perfection.
- 26:48Speaker 1: It should be Imman nominated. There are some savage moments coming.
- 26:51Speaker 2: There is at one point it is the quickest scene
- 26:53Speaker 2: and you would have missed it, but Carl's looking like
- 26:56Speaker 2: in a mirror, very close, and he takes a hair
- 26:59Speaker 2: brush and like puts it on his teeth.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I'm like, what is he doing?
- 27:05Speaker 2: What is he doing with the bristles of your hairbrush? Carl, Carl, Carl, Carl,
- 27:12Speaker 2: Do you.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Have any time caps a moment? Okay, let's gip it
- 27:14Speaker 1: all right, what was your low key iconic moment of
- 27:17Speaker 1: the week.
- 27:19Speaker 2: This goes back to the editing. But the best accidental
- 27:23Speaker 2: legacy shot ever to be captured is Kyle Solo snacking
- 27:29Speaker 2: on chips. This is truly the beginning of a ten
- 27:32Speaker 2: season arc. You will see him in every just little
- 27:35Speaker 2: quick transition shot, eating them alone in the kitchen, every
- 27:40Speaker 2: drunken night, and it is it is my Roman Empire.
- 27:44Speaker 2: How does the man still have six pack abs with
- 27:46Speaker 2: that late night snacking?
- 27:47Speaker 1: Don't know, do not?
- 27:50Speaker 2: I think he deprives himself of carbohydrates outside of like
- 27:54Speaker 2: those moments and snacks.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Yeah, my low key iconic moment is as mentioned earlier.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I know you thought, you know, Stossy wasn't quite savage enough,
- 28:06Speaker 1: but I did love her looking at Kyle and being like,
- 28:09Speaker 1: is this one's out there? Like straight to his face?
- 28:12Speaker 1: I really enjoyed. Is this what I have to look
- 28:14Speaker 1: forward to as a single woman.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I think you would enjoy the early days of vander
- 28:18Speaker 2: Pumper Rules, considering how much I want to like he's
- 28:21Speaker 2: one of vander Pump Rules. She has only seen season
- 28:23Speaker 2: one and and.
- 28:26Speaker 1: The Scandalball season, Oh my gosh, because I like to
- 28:29Speaker 1: know what people are talking about, which Stossy.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Wasn't even involved like she wasn't even a part of
- 28:33Speaker 2: a cast at that point. So maybe there is room
- 28:37Speaker 2: on the schedule somewhere that we've some somehow sometime tackle
- 28:42Speaker 2: vander Pumper roles.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Let us know if you want a vander Pump rules
- 28:45Speaker 1: rewatch next. All right, what's your messiest moment of the week?
- 28:49Speaker 2: Kyle insisting he is not a player right before bringing
- 28:52Speaker 2: Amanda home. Sir, you're not fooling anyone, even yourself.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Kyle is the messiest one of the week. I through
- 29:00Speaker 1: the seasons that I have seen of Summer House, another
- 29:03Speaker 1: consistent thing is Kyle doesn't drink. He gets drunk, like
- 29:05Speaker 1: there is no in between. Kyle is if he's drinking,
- 29:08Speaker 1: he is drunk. He's drunk with Stassy, he's drunk when
- 29:10Speaker 1: he calls Amanda. It's a tie for me between Kyle
- 29:14Speaker 1: like absolutely making an ass out of himself and the
- 29:16Speaker 1: takuzi with Stassy and calling up his ex girlfriend Amanda, which,
- 29:21Speaker 1: for anybody with the crystal ball, you know where that
- 29:24Speaker 1: said is. We'll be back next week with our thoughts
- 29:27Speaker 1: on season one, episode two of Summer House. Thank you
- 29:30Speaker 1: for listening. Please subscribe everywhere you get podcasts, you can
