- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: Balanced Life Chiropractic and we have doctor Harley with us.
- 0:04Speaker 2: How you doing, Hey, John, I'm doing great.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You get a festive shirt on today, Santa Pause?
- 0:10Speaker 2: It is Christmas next week, I know. So yeah, we've
- 0:13Speaker 2: been a little festive in the office. Wear something Christmas, ye,
- 0:16Speaker 2: at least once a week.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So we have been very fortunate this year to dodge
- 0:20Speaker 1: any like major horrible, terrible weather. We've had some cold
- 0:23Speaker 1: weather and this last weekend we got a little bit
- 0:25Speaker 1: of ice. It was slippery, and when we have that ice,
- 0:27Speaker 1: it's always nice to talk about this because that's when
- 0:30Speaker 1: you experience slipping and sometimes you slip and fall. Sometimes
- 0:33Speaker 1: you just slip and slip, but when you slip, you
- 0:35Speaker 1: could also jerk something out a line of alignment. So
- 0:37Speaker 1: this is a good time year to know a little
- 0:40Speaker 1: bit about how to walk when you're out on the ice. Right.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a good winter reminder of, you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: being a little more cautious with.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Your footing and walk like a penguin.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I always say. So if you don't
- 0:50Speaker 2: know what that means, basically you just kind of stick
- 0:51Speaker 2: your toes out and then kind of waddle and being
- 0:55Speaker 2: more careful, you know, picking up your feet.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It's a sexy look too, So just beware. All your
- 1:00Speaker 1: neighbors are going to go, oh, look at John over there,
- 1:02Speaker 1: mister penguin man.
- 1:03Speaker 2: They're probably like, oh, that's John doing that.
- 1:06Speaker 1: No, it is something that makes a big difference because
- 1:09Speaker 1: you don't want to slip, and if you do slip,
- 1:11Speaker 1: you don't want to fall. So this is the time
- 1:13Speaker 1: year you gotta be really careful. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I just heard a report on the radio this morning.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I was I was driving into work. The American Medical
- 1:20Speaker 2: Association or it was Insurance or something. Someone said, eight
- 1:23Speaker 2: hundred thousand people seek medical attention every year due to
- 1:28Speaker 2: slips and falls. Yeah, the vast majority of them being
- 1:31Speaker 2: in the winter months.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the time of year when you know,
- 1:34Speaker 1: in the summer there could be like wet grass that
- 1:36Speaker 1: you could slip on, but in the winter there's ice.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Everywhere, especially you know here in the Midwest we see
- 1:41Speaker 2: a lot more of that. And it's even more important
- 1:44Speaker 2: as you get older. So talking to people that are
- 1:47Speaker 2: sixty plus that especially women, you know, it's you know,
- 1:50Speaker 2: breaking a hip or just a bone in general, is
- 1:53Speaker 2: a higher occurrence with these slips and falls in the wintertime,
- 1:56Speaker 2: so you'll make sure you're eating more calcium based products.
- 2:00Speaker 2: More vitamin D help boost your bone density. Even working
- 2:04Speaker 2: out can help with strengthen your bone density. And that's
- 2:07Speaker 2: even more important when we're younger, because we want to
- 2:09Speaker 2: build really strong bone density when we're younger, so that
- 2:12Speaker 2: as we get older we lose it a little bit slower.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You're more prepared that way, right and you know you fall,
- 2:18Speaker 1: so you fall, what's what's your next step? Right?
- 2:21Speaker 2: Well, you know one obviously getting back up, but then
- 2:22Speaker 2: assessing you know what happened.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Are you hurt?
- 2:25Speaker 2: Do you need to seek you know, major medical care,
- 2:28Speaker 2: urgent care if if you aren't, if you didn't break anything,
- 2:31Speaker 2: urgent care is just fine. You know, they would appreciate
- 2:33Speaker 2: you not going to the emergency room if you you know,
- 2:36Speaker 2: have a slight bruise or something like that. But even
- 2:38Speaker 2: chiropractic and maybe you're not think, oh, I should go
- 2:40Speaker 2: see my chiropractor right away. Maybe you don't have a
- 2:43Speaker 2: chiropractor and didn't know that you should see chiropractic care
- 2:46Speaker 2: after a fall.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Make sure everything is in alignment and still still good.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Right, because, like John said, you know, even if you
- 2:51Speaker 2: don't hurt yourself, you know, break something, bruise something, twists something,
- 2:55Speaker 2: that jerk still could have thrown things out of alignment.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And you're gonna notice that maybe in a month or
- 3:00Speaker 2: two from now, because it's been stuck and it's just
- 3:03Speaker 2: kind of getting worse and worse and worse and worse.
- 3:04Speaker 2: So it's easier to get us asked, get checked out,
- 3:07Speaker 2: you know quick soon after a fall, to make sure
- 3:09Speaker 2: that everything is healing properly and that you can get
- 3:12Speaker 2: back to your you know, Christmas shopping and enjoy your
- 3:15Speaker 2: holidays without dealing with that slipper fall pain.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Now, if somebody listening is going, okay, I've experienced this.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I slipped, I pulled a muscle, I pulled something. I
- 3:23Speaker 1: don't know what I pulled, but something's not right. If
- 3:26Speaker 1: they would like to seek help, I encourage them to
- 3:28Speaker 1: reach out to Balance Life Chiropractic. What's the best way
