Latest / The Mark Simone Show / Hour 2: Saudi Arabia could be in trouble.
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Mr.
- 0:00Speaker 2: New York, Mark Simone, 710WOR.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, welcome to hour number two. That's right. We start
- 0:10Speaker 1: at 9 a.m. now. This is hour number two. A
- 0:14Speaker 1: lot to get to this hour. We'll get to Howard Stern.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We'll get to Pierce Brosnan. We'll get to Crazy Mom
- 0:20Speaker 1: Donnie and more. Price of oil, let me just check,
- 0:24Speaker 1: $ 103 a barrel. Very high, $ 103 a barrel. It's very high.
- 0:31Speaker 1: That's the American oil, WTI. The Brent crude, the rest
- 0:35Speaker 1: of the world uses, 107. Very, very, very high. That's
- 0:39Speaker 1: a spike. That's a big spike. Now, the reason for
- 0:41Speaker 1: that is Iran has brought back the Houthis. You know,
- 0:48Speaker 1: they have Hezbollah. They have the Houthis. They have all
- 0:50Speaker 1: these terrorist organizations. They fund finance. And the Houthis are back.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Iran funding them. Who knows who else is helping them.
- 0:59Speaker 1: But the Houthis have taken action. Iran doesn't have much
- 1:04Speaker 1: military left. Can't do much. They got a missile or two,
- 1:07Speaker 1: a drone or two. But the Houthis may have been
- 1:11Speaker 1: supplied by somebody. And the Houthis hit a Saudi pipeline
- 1:16Speaker 1: and knocked out a Saudi pipeline. It's out of business.
- 1:18Speaker 1: That pipeline carried 7 million barrels a day to the
- 1:22Speaker 1: port of Yambu, which is on the Red Sea. So
- 1:26Speaker 1: the hooties hit the pipeline, knocking that out. They're also
- 1:31Speaker 1: trying to seize control of the Red Sea. Iran-backed hooties
- 1:36Speaker 1: controlling the coastline now of the Red Sea. So that's
- 1:39Speaker 1: the other way for oil to get out. So the
- 1:41Speaker 1: Strait of Hormuz, not actually closed. We're getting about 4
- 1:44Speaker 1: million barrels a day out of there. It's supposed to
- 1:47Speaker 1: be 20. So it's slightly open. But the Red Sea,
- 1:50Speaker 1: which is the other way out, the hooties have tightened
- 1:53Speaker 1: their grip. They grabbed a hold of that shipping route.
- 1:56Speaker 1: That's why the price of oil suddenly spiked, and that
- 1:59Speaker 1: could give Iran a tremendous advantage in the war. Houthi
- 2:04Speaker 1: armed forces boasted of their gains and vowed an escalation
- 2:08Speaker 1: for escalation and declared that they'll allow maritime navigation except
- 2:15Speaker 1: for the Saudis, and that's who we need for the oil.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Saudi Prince said, Mohammed bin Salman, he called President Trump
- 2:24Speaker 1: twice to urge him to launch U.S. strikes against the Houthis. Now,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I don't know what the president is up to, but
- 2:32Speaker 1: so far he's not taken any action against the Houthis.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Saudi's the world's largest oil exporter. You don't want them
- 2:39Speaker 1: cut off. And right now the president is not doing
- 2:43Speaker 1: anything at the moment. So what we need, obviously, is
- 2:46Speaker 1: just to wipe out these Houthis. Just wipe them out.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Just Kill them all if you have to. Just blow
- 2:53Speaker 1: up everything they have now. I don't know why the
- 2:55Speaker 1: president's holding back on this. It could be maybe he
- 2:58Speaker 1: just wants to wait for the midterms to be. I
- 3:00Speaker 1: don't know. And by the way, if you're Iran, no
- 3:04Speaker 1: matter what happens, even if the Iran strategy is wait
- 3:08Speaker 1: for the midterms, stall and pray the Democrats win the midterms.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But here's your problem if you're Iran. If the Democrats
- 3:15Speaker 1: win the midterms, they don't take office till January. So
- 3:19Speaker 1: from early November till early January, that's two months. So
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'd imagine if the Democrats win that what President Trump
- 3:28Speaker 1: would do in those two months is just bomb the
- 3:31Speaker 1: hell out of Iran, just completely knock out everything before
- 3:35Speaker 1: the Democrats take office. Hooties as well. So it's probably
- 3:42Speaker 1: not your best strategy waiting till November. It's probably not
- 3:44Speaker 1: going to help you. Well, hopefully the president does something.
- 3:48Speaker 1: He is mad at Saudi Arabia. I don't know exactly
- 3:50Speaker 1: what's going on there. But again, the Saudi head calling
- 3:54Speaker 1: him frantically. President still doing nothing. And apparently, he's getting
- 3:59Speaker 1: ready to release the Saudi Arabia 9-11 files. Many people
- 4:03Speaker 1: believe the Saudis either had something to do with the
- 4:07Speaker 1: 9-11 attacks or knew about it ahead of time and
- 4:10Speaker 1: didn't warn us. But there are files on that. It's
- 4:14Speaker 1: about 3,000 pages. they've been hushed up by Bush, by Clinton,
- 4:19Speaker 1: by everybody's been hushing these things up. Oh, actually wouldn't
- 4:22Speaker 1: be Clinton. It'd be Bush. It would be Obama. It
- 4:25Speaker 1: would be Biden hushing this all up, but president Trump
- 4:29Speaker 1: talking about releasing it. Maybe that's to, uh, uh, push
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Saudis to do something. There was a memo, September,
- 4:36Speaker 1: 2010 FBI memo in there that says two employees, uh, uh,
- 4:43Speaker 1: to a terrorist had a past connection to, uh, Saudis
- 4:48Speaker 1: into the hijack, two Saudi employees connected to the hijack.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I don't know. It doesn't, it sounds pretty flimsy, but
- 4:55Speaker 1: they like to release files. It could be like the
- 4:56Speaker 1: Epstein files. You know, we're all waiting for those to
- 4:59Speaker 1: wait till you get these Epstein files. It was basically
- 5:01Speaker 1: nothing in them, really nothing. Supreme court decision going against
- 5:06Speaker 1: the president. He wanted to restrict the mail-in ballots, put
- 5:10Speaker 1: some controls on it. The mail-in balloting is out of control.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Every expert agrees that, Mail-in ballots are nothing but fraud.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Even that study that was, remember that big study, Jimmy
- 5:21Speaker 1: Carter and Howard Baker, Republican and Democrat joint study. And
- 5:26Speaker 1: that was their conclusion that the mail-in ballot is nothing.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's just completely open to fraud and deceit and all
- 5:32Speaker 1: sorts of stuff. So they wanted to control that, put
- 5:37Speaker 1: some restrictions on it. Supreme Court rejected it. So the
- 5:41Speaker 1: decision allows states to continue sending out mail-in ballots under
- 5:44Speaker 1: the same process they've been using, which is not a
- 5:47Speaker 1: good one. Now, why would the Supreme Court allow this?
- 5:51Speaker 1: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas tried to vote on the president's side.
- 5:57Speaker 1: But it was Justice Brett Kavanaugh. He just argued that
- 6:01Speaker 1: there was no way to get these restrictions into effect
- 6:03Speaker 1: for the midterms. It's just a matter of weeks. There
- 6:06Speaker 1: was no way to put them in effect for weeks.
- 6:09Speaker 1: And he did signal that after the election, the president
- 6:14Speaker 1: should bring it back to the Supreme Court and they'll
- 6:16Speaker 1: probably rule in his favor. But he just said it
- 6:18Speaker 1: was impossible, just impossible to get it done in time
- 6:22Speaker 1: for the midterms. So, hey, remember Butler, Pennsylvania, that assassin
- 6:28Speaker 1: Thomas Crooks, documents being released about him. You know, this
- 6:32Speaker 1: is something weird about the cover-up of this assassination. Whenever
- 6:36Speaker 1: there's an assassination, whether it's Lee Harvey Oswald or whoever
- 6:39Speaker 1: it is, The next day, you start reading all about him.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Reporters are all over the guy, his family, talking to
- 6:46Speaker 1: the neighbor. They gather everything. They get you his whole history.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But after Butler, Pennsylvania, you never heard a word about
- 6:51Speaker 1: this shooter.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Nothing came out about him. Well, there are some FBI documents. Apparently,
- 6:58Speaker 1: they did look into it. President Trump had them look
- 7:01Speaker 1: into it. His name was Thomas Matthew Crooks. He was
- 7:04Speaker 1: born in 2003. His father said when he was born,
- 7:08Speaker 1: his father said he was totally emotionless, never had any emotion.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Even as a baby, never cried. Even when he was born,
- 7:15Speaker 1: didn't scream, didn't cry. Was always quiet, never made a sound.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Even in school, had trouble talking to anybody, trouble talking
- 7:24Speaker 1: to the teachers. He said the quietness, the lack of
- 7:27Speaker 1: emotion became more noticeable over the years. He said despite
- 7:32Speaker 1: his lack of social skills or street smarts, He was
- 7:36Speaker 1: a very good student. He got a 1400 on his
- 7:38Speaker 1: first SAT. Later improved to a near perfect 1500. Whoa.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I think I got a 600. He started getting into
- 7:50Speaker 1: shooting and guns as a teenager. Had no interest in
- 7:54Speaker 1: sort of being an outdoorsman or hunting. He just got
- 7:56Speaker 1: interested in guns and shooting. Was not good at it. Uh,
- 8:02Speaker 1: Kept missing the target completely, but he worked hard four
- 8:05Speaker 1: or five years of practice before he could do that.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And eventually with practice, he became a marksman. And then
- 8:12Speaker 1: the father said, this kid is ordering everything on Amazon
- 8:15Speaker 1: for guns. He's figuring out how to increase the power
- 8:18Speaker 1: of his guns, increase everything. Somebody should have gotten suspicious here.
- 8:24Speaker 1: He practiced shooting from long range over 100 yards. He
- 8:28Speaker 1: kept practicing long range shooting. So who knows? what he
- 8:32Speaker 1: was thinking. He wasn't, they don't think very political. He
- 8:37Speaker 1: didn't like Biden. He didn't like Trump. They just think
- 8:39Speaker 1: he didn't like politicians. He got more and more into guns.
- 8:44Speaker 1: He bought a prism site, eventually became very knowledgeable about
- 8:47Speaker 1: how to measure and zero in on a target, frightening stuff. But,
- 8:54Speaker 1: and again, he had very little social media. Normally you'd
- 8:57Speaker 1: learn a lot about this guy, But it's just slowly
- 9:01Speaker 1: coming out. Hey, Howard Stern, trying to do a little
- 9:04Speaker 1: spin here, a little damage control. Howard Stern, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: when he went over to Sirius, had millions of listeners.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And the last few years, it dwindled down to a
- 9:13Speaker 1: couple hundred thousand. And they just kept reducing his money.
- 9:18Speaker 1: You know, he started at $ 100 million a year, and
- 9:20Speaker 1: he just kept reducing, reducing, reducing. Every time they'd give
- 9:23Speaker 1: him a huge pay cut, he would compromise by instead
- 9:27Speaker 1: of five days a week, three days a week, Instead
- 9:29Speaker 1: of 52 weeks a year, 26 weeks a year. Now
- 9:32Speaker 1: it's down to one day a week, maybe half the year.
- 9:37Speaker 1: One day a week, maybe half the year. So now
- 9:42Speaker 1: it's down to just about nothing. So Stern putting out,
- 9:45Speaker 1: finally doing an interview, which he doesn't usually do. He
- 9:47Speaker 1: only does this when he wants to spin something. But
- 9:51Speaker 1: he said, Sirius has been phenomenal with me. I was
- 9:54Speaker 1: going to retire. I was going to leave the business.
- 9:55Speaker 1: They begged me to stay. They said, what can we
- 9:58Speaker 1: do to keep you here? And he said, how about
- 10:02Speaker 1: one day? I don't think this is at all what happened.
- 10:04Speaker 1: I don't think this is the way it went. But
- 10:05Speaker 1: this is his version of it. Yeah, they took away
- 10:08Speaker 1: one of his channels. So he tries to spin this
- 10:11Speaker 1: a little. Yeah, I left Howard 101 because I didn't
- 10:14Speaker 1: want the responsibility of it anymore. It was too much work.
- 10:18Speaker 1: There was a whole staff running it. By the way,
- 10:22Speaker 1: they've gotten rid of the staff. They've been laying off
- 10:23Speaker 1: all these people. He had a huge office and studio
- 10:26Speaker 1: complex at Sirius. Apparently, that's being dismantled. They'll probably keep
- 10:30Speaker 1: one studio, but most of it is being dismantled. He
- 10:33Speaker 1: didn't say how long he expects to keep doing this
- 10:36Speaker 1: one-day-a-week arrangement. We'll see. Bruce Blakeman, we want to see
- 10:41Speaker 1: him become governor. One thing he's promising now is to
- 10:43Speaker 1: end Hochul's war on drivers. by killing all these stupid
- 10:49Speaker 1: green mandates, you know, and he's going to get rid
- 10:53Speaker 1: of the congestion pricing. Also, you know, Hochul's got this
- 10:56Speaker 1: law she passed a couple of years ago that by 2035,
- 10:59Speaker 1: you can't drive a gas car anymore. Absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely insane.
- 11:06Speaker 1: He's going to cancel all that. So you need to
- 11:08Speaker 1: vote for Bruce Blakeman to help fix things. Anyway, we've
- 11:12Speaker 1: got a lot coming up. We'll take some calls. 800-321-8000.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Don't forget, I'm here 9 to noon every day. 800-321-0710.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Mark Simone. Mr. New York. Now three hours every weekday
- 11:27Speaker 1: from 9 till noon on 710WOR. Well, hey, let's take
- 11:30Speaker 1: some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 11:32Speaker 2: 800-321-0710.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Let's go to Sebastian in Connecticut.
- 11:45Speaker 2: How you doing, Mark?
- 11:46Speaker 1: Good. What's going on?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Great show.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I'm one of Vince's titans from Sicily.
- 11:54Speaker 1: You're one of what? I'm calling about the.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I'm just saying that my family came from Sicily, so.
- 12:02Speaker 1: I'm not from ICE. We're not customs.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Listen, I'm calling.
- 12:07Speaker 1: About the ads that Lamont has currently out. showing you
- 12:12Speaker 1: anybody understand this guy do you realize you sound like
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're in a tunnel you're 5 000 miles away from
- 12:17Speaker 1: the phone i'm in the truck mark i'm still working
- 12:22Speaker 1: i know but you gotta we can't we can't really
- 12:25Speaker 1: hear this it's it's not going to be clear enough
- 12:26Speaker 1: to hear no i'll try it again.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Okay listen just Lamont's got a dad that shows a
- 12:36Speaker 2: creature from Norwalk.
- 12:37Speaker 1: We can't understand you. You're too far away from the phone.
- 12:40Speaker 1: But I heard the word Lamont, so I think he
- 12:42Speaker 1: says Connecticut. I think he's talking about Ned Lamont, who's
- 12:45Speaker 1: the governor of Connecticut. Two terms now. He's running for
- 12:49Speaker 1: a third term. If you're in Connecticut, you don't want
- 12:52Speaker 1: to vote for this guy again. He's a nice guy,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and he's had some good moments as governor, but a
- 12:58Speaker 1: lot of bad stuff, too. And he's going kind of
- 13:00Speaker 1: a woke left wing lately. The problem is you never
- 13:03Speaker 1: want anybody to have a third term. Third terms never
- 13:07Speaker 1: work out. Also, again, he's going too woke, too left wing.
- 13:11Speaker 1: You got a good Republican candidate there. His name is
- 13:14Speaker 1: Ryan Fazio, Ryan Fazio, who I see him running a
- 13:18Speaker 1: lot of TV commercials here, which is good, which is good.
- 13:22Speaker 1: That means he's got some money to spend. Ryan Fazio,
- 13:25Speaker 1: vote for him. He's the Republican for Connecticut governor. Although
- 13:28Speaker 1: I noticed he's running a lot of TV commercials and
- 13:30Speaker 1: not enough social media. TV commercials are great if this
- 13:34Speaker 1: is 1998. You need to be a little more social media.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Get that going. But you've had enough of Lamont. Hey,
- 13:40Speaker 1: so if you want to call, it's 800-321-0710 is the number. 800-321-0710.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Carnegie Deli opens today at 11 a.m. What time is it?
- 13:45Speaker 2: 1026.
- 13:45Speaker 1: All right. We'll see. Check it out on social media.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I don't know. They're trying to become an Instagram sensation.
- 14:05Speaker 1: If you do that in a bakery, a restaurant, whatever,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you can have lines around the block. Lines everywhere. But
- 14:15Speaker 1: if you're a deli with pastrami and corned beef, I
- 14:18Speaker 1: don't know if that's going to work so much because
- 14:21Speaker 1: that Instagram phenomenon tends to be for younger people. But
- 14:25Speaker 1: we'll see. They've added a black and white cookie. They
- 14:29Speaker 1: didn't do that before. They got all the usual, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: the great cheesecake and all that stuff. But they've added
- 14:34Speaker 1: a black and white cookie. They're pushing that. So maybe
- 14:36Speaker 1: that will become a big sensation. Hey, by the way,
- 14:39Speaker 1: if you're a big black and white cookie fan, there's
- 14:42Speaker 1: somebody on Instagram. Actually, it's not just somebody. It's a
- 14:46Speaker 1: big food group. They're real food experts. They got all
- 14:49Speaker 1: the top black and white cookies in the city and
- 14:53Speaker 1: brought them into a room. And they did a blind
- 14:55Speaker 1: taste test with like 12 food critics. Who would have
- 14:59Speaker 1: the best black and white cookie in the city? William
- 15:02Speaker 1: Greenberg Bakery? Well, yeah, they did okay. No, the winner,
- 15:04Speaker 1: believe it or not. Barney Greengrass. Barney Greengrass, that legendary
- 15:10Speaker 1: place on the Upper West Side, won for best black
- 15:12Speaker 1: and white cookie in the city. Let's go to Al
- 15:15Speaker 1: in Parsippany. Al, how you doing? Hello.
- 15:19Speaker 2: How are you, Mr. Simone? Good. I have a question
- 15:24Speaker 2: for the audience. president trump yes why are you being
- 15:28Speaker 2: so civilized at this point in the game.
- 15:32Speaker 1: All right we'll ask him uh i don't think he's
- 15:33Speaker 1: ever trump donald trump accused of being too civilized i
- 15:36Speaker 1: don't think that's ever happened but okay i think he's
- 15:39Speaker 1: talking about iran yeah i don't know he just might
- 15:40Speaker 1: be stalling till the midterms or or he's luring them
- 15:45Speaker 1: into some kind of trap you never know with him
- 15:47Speaker 1: he's always always always it's a 3d chess you never
- 15:50Speaker 1: know where he's going Let's go to Bill in Wildwood. Bill,
- 15:55Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 15:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yes, Bill. Yeah.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Mark, why don't the Saudis sign the Abraham Accords and
- 16:04Speaker 2: join in the fight against Iran instead of calling us up?
- 16:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they are cooperating to a certain extent. You're right.
- 16:11Speaker 1: They've got to do a little more. I don't know
- 16:15Speaker 1: what the relationship is there. The Saudis, you can never, ever, ever, ever,
- 16:19Speaker 1: ever completely trust them. But they've been a little helpful.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But obviously the president not too thrilled with them because
- 16:30Speaker 1: he's about to release those 9-11 files, which they're not
- 16:33Speaker 1: going to be happy about. Let's go to Bill in Pennsylvania. Bill,
- 16:36Speaker 1: how you doing? Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Got
- 16:41Speaker 1: to push the button. Yes, Bill. Go ahead.
- 16:44Speaker 2: You hear me? Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Now we can hear you. Okay.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Okay.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Carnegie Deli.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I mean, I've never been there, but I know you
- 16:52Speaker 2: talk about it a lot.
- 16:52Speaker 1: But is it better than Katz Deli? I've been to
- 16:55Speaker 1: Katz Deli twice, and I love it. Well, the old
- 16:58Speaker 1: Carnegie was much better than Katz's. This is the new Carnegie.
- 17:02Speaker 1: It's coming back, not with the original people, but the
- 17:05Speaker 1: granddaughter of one of the original guys. So we don't
- 17:08Speaker 1: know for sure. I mean, I've seen the new sandwiches
- 17:13Speaker 1: and pictures. They look like the same, but we'll see
- 17:15Speaker 1: if it's exactly the same. You know, sometimes they get
- 17:17Speaker 1: a little cheaper than others. What did you think of Katz's?
- 17:19Speaker 1: Did you ever see anything like that before in your life? Oh,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I love Katz's.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Well, first of all, I used to sell cars, and
- 17:25Speaker 2: I sold the owners a couple of different BMWs in
- 17:28Speaker 2: the past, and I've always gone there, and I always thought.
- 17:31Speaker 1: It was a great deli. Yeah, no, it's very good.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Carnegie was different. Katz's was always just a big tourist place.
- 17:38Speaker 1: The Carnegie, they got tourists, but it was mostly... real
- 17:42Speaker 1: New Yorkers, and it was in its heyday, no longer,
- 17:45Speaker 1: and not for the last few years, but in its heyday, 80s, 90s,
- 17:48Speaker 1: it was a lot of celebrities, a lot of famous
- 17:50Speaker 1: people were in there all the time. And the front table,
- 17:55Speaker 1: the front table was where all the comedians and the
- 17:58Speaker 1: people in show business all sat, and especially late at night,
- 18:03Speaker 1: after everybody got done with their show, there's no shows anymore,
- 18:06Speaker 1: I mean live shows, but in the good old days,
- 18:08Speaker 1: there were nightclubs, there was Michael's Pub, there was the
- 18:12Speaker 1: What else was there? I can't even remember. Rainbow and Stars.
- 18:15Speaker 1: There were all kinds of places. But you'd get there
- 18:19Speaker 1: about midnight. Believe it or not, you'd get to the Carnegie,
- 18:22Speaker 1: maybe 1130, but usually about midnight. I used to do
- 18:25Speaker 1: this every night, 80s, 90s. And you sit at the
- 18:27Speaker 1: front table and everybody appearing in New York would come
- 18:30Speaker 1: in and sit there. I used to go there with
- 18:32Speaker 1: George Carlin, with a lot of great comedians. If you
- 18:35Speaker 1: watch the movie, Broadway Danny Rose. They recreated all of
- 18:40Speaker 1: that in that movie. The whole thing takes place in
- 18:42Speaker 1: the Carnegie Deli. And you see the comedian's table up front.
- 18:46Speaker 1: But it reopens today at 11. I'll give you a report.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Check my Instagram. Maybe I'll put stuff up there. Go
- 18:52Speaker 1: over there and get some video or something. Let's go
- 18:55Speaker 1: to Jack in Massachusetts. Jack, how are you doing? Good morning, Mark. Yes, Jack.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I just went by your old school at Kenmore Square
- 19:05Speaker 2: from 40 years ago.
- 19:06Speaker 1: 40 years ago? I didn't go to school in Kenmore Square.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Well, then you go to Emerson?
- 19:12Speaker 1: Emerson, yes. Let me translate for people here. It's Emerson,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and what he's saying is 40 years ago. Well, people
- 19:20Speaker 1: don't know what 40 years ago is. You make me homesick.
- 19:24Speaker 1: You call me Mark.
- 19:27Speaker 2: All right, Mark.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Mark.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Listen, Mark, I got to tell you something. You know
- 19:33Speaker 2: what you need? You need more money. interesting guest on
- 19:36Speaker 2: you have Ian Coulter and you have Ed Rollins on
- 19:39Speaker 2: so much we need.
- 19:42Speaker 1: More hot I gotta be honest with you if you're
- 19:45Speaker 1: looking for a second career if you're looking for a
- 19:48Speaker 1: second career I don't think radio can would be for you.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I'm going to do a New York accent, Mark. We
- 19:56Speaker 2: need Newt Gingrich on. We need Josh Hawley on.
- 19:58Speaker 1: You have all these. We don't have politicians on. That's
- 20:02Speaker 1: one rule.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 20:04Speaker 1: No problem. Nobody meant to hear that.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Also, I got a question for you. When you first started.
- 20:08Speaker 1: The new gig— All exception, Bruce Blakeman. Huh?
- 20:10Speaker 2: What? How come you never mentioned that you're not going
- 20:14Speaker 2: to be working Friday, Johnny Carson?
- 20:16Speaker 1: I do work Fridays.
- 20:19Speaker 2: No, a lot of you Fridays. You haven't been on.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Oh, that's just in August.
- 20:21Speaker 2: That's what?
- 20:24Speaker 1: That's only in August I do that.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Oh, I see. You're back on Fridays?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Are you okay?
- 20:30Speaker 2: I know last week. No, last week. Are you okay? No,
- 20:35Speaker 2: I listen to you all the time, Mark. Ever since
- 20:36Speaker 2: your Saturday night show.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Jack, snap out of it.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Come on.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, in the summer I take Fridays. Here's the thing.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I don't like to take a whole week off. I
- 20:47Speaker 1: just can't stand taking a whole week off. So I
- 20:49Speaker 1: do it like every Friday in August. It's a way
- 20:52Speaker 1: of burning up a week. How much vacation do I get?
- 20:55Speaker 1: I think it's four weeks. So you've got to figure
- 20:57Speaker 1: out how to use it without affecting the show too much.
- 21:00Speaker 1: But that's why I do that. And we don't have
- 21:01Speaker 1: politicians on. You know, you ever listen to a radio
- 21:04Speaker 1: show and the guy says, coming up next, Senator Ron Phillips.
- 21:08Speaker 1: As soon as you hear Senator Ron, whoever, Congressman Jackson,
- 21:12Speaker 1: as soon as you hear Congressman, Senator, you don't want
- 21:15Speaker 1: to hear a bunch of politicians on here. You want
- 21:17Speaker 1: to hear people that are fun. Anyway, oh, you know
- 21:19Speaker 1: who we'll talk to next? Rhonda Shear. We're going to
- 21:21Speaker 1: talk about New York. She was here. And we'll talk
- 21:24Speaker 1: about all sorts of things coming up. On 710WOR. Mark Simone. Mr.
- 21:31Speaker 1: New York.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Now three hours every weekday from 9 till noon.
- 21:36Speaker 1: On 710WOR. Well, Rhonda Shearer. Of course, you know her
- 21:42Speaker 1: from Up All Night. And she's written a great book
- 21:46Speaker 1: that you should read. A big, big bestseller. Now, also,
- 21:50Speaker 1: she runs a huge fashion empire. Just go to RhondaShearer.com. RhondaShear.com.
- 21:56Speaker 1: She's got a Roku channel and all of that. Rhonda Shear,
- 21:59Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 22:00Speaker 3: Mark, that's so sweet. The best intro ever. And that
- 22:03Speaker 3: gentleman just said that you need more interesting guests, and
- 22:06Speaker 3: you have me. So there you go.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Yeah, don't listen to him. What does he know?
- 22:10Speaker 3: But wait, I was a politician. I ran for office
- 22:15Speaker 3: when I was 22 in New Orleans.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Oh, my God. luckily you didn't get elected because you
- 22:20Speaker 1: would have not had this great show business career that
- 22:22Speaker 1: you had.
- 22:23Speaker 3: No, but do you know, this is really, this is
- 22:25Speaker 3: how old I am, but I was the first woman
- 22:28Speaker 3: and the youngest person to ever run in the state
- 22:30Speaker 3: of Louisiana. And I don't know if you, do you
- 22:33Speaker 3: remember governor Edwin Edwards back in new Orleans?
- 22:36Speaker 1: Name sounds familiar. Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 3: He was literally like the father of the state. Cause
- 22:40Speaker 3: he like slept with every, every person that was long
- 22:43Speaker 3: before the me too.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Really?
- 22:45Speaker 1: While he was in office.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, he was a silver fox, gorgeous. I mean,
- 22:51Speaker 3: he really was. And he was 42 when he was elected.
- 22:55Speaker 3: You have to look him up because he's legendary. He
- 22:56Speaker 3: went to jail, he had a reality show. But anyway,
- 23:00Speaker 3: he brought gambling to New Orleans and Louisiana. He was
- 23:05Speaker 3: 42 and I was at my junior senior prom. And
- 23:08Speaker 3: literally they were having a political party next door, like
- 23:11Speaker 3: different rooms, like in a convention center. And I was
- 23:14Speaker 3: standing outside and my date wasn't around with a couple
- 23:17Speaker 3: of friends. And he had one of his little henchmen
- 23:20Speaker 3: come up to me and say, the governor would like
- 23:22Speaker 3: to meet you and get your phone number. And like
- 23:26Speaker 3: a fool, I gave it to him because I didn't
- 23:27Speaker 3: know better. I was 16. And that started this whole relationship,
- 23:32Speaker 3: not a relationship, of him calling me and sending me
- 23:35Speaker 3: flowers and telling me that my name was that he
- 23:39Speaker 3: was in Florida, and he was writing my name in
- 23:42Speaker 3: the sand, and the waves were washing it away. See,
- 23:45Speaker 3: guys can get away with stuff.
- 23:47Speaker 1: This is while he's in office?
- 23:49Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Look up Edwin Edwards.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So while he's in office, he's calling a 16-year-old. Yes.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And he's probably calling a million other women.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Oh, gosh. Yeah.
- 23:59Speaker 3: I mean, there was jokes about him because he was
- 24:02Speaker 3: movie star handsome. And he really, I mean, literally brought
- 24:06Speaker 3: gambling and so much. He was a big gambler. Gorgeous, funny,
- 24:10Speaker 3: Cajun accent. Very sexy. But, you know, back then, you
- 24:14Speaker 3: know how you had phone lines and somebody else could
- 24:16Speaker 3: pick up the other extension in another world?
- 24:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:19Speaker 3: So he would call me up and he would go
- 24:20Speaker 3: by the name Bandito.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Bandito?
- 24:22Speaker 3: That's like Carlos Danger.
- 24:28Speaker 1: With Anthony Weiner.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Exactly. So I would have my parents.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I'd be giggling.
- 24:34Speaker 3: You're 16, and it's hysterical when some older man, even
- 24:37Speaker 3: though he was very handsome, was calling you. So I'd say, Mom, Dad,
- 24:40Speaker 3: pick up your phone. They'd all be listening, and he'd
- 24:42Speaker 3: be telling me all this BS about my name and
- 24:45Speaker 3: the waves, and I must come to the mansion in Louisiana,
- 24:48Speaker 3: and he's got gifts for me, and I must go
- 24:50Speaker 3: to LSU Baton Rouge because he will make me queen
- 24:53Speaker 3: of the campus. Which is why I didn't go there
- 24:57Speaker 3: and I went to Loyola University. But this is all true.
- 24:59Speaker 2: And it's actually in my book.
- 25:00Speaker 3: I mean, I have a whole thing.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the book's called Up All Night, right?
- 25:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to get the book and read all
- 25:06Speaker 1: these stories. But I like the Bill Clinton approach where
- 25:09Speaker 1: you just get her in a hotel room and drop
- 25:11Speaker 1: your pants. Remember with Paula Jones?
- 25:17Speaker 3: Oh, of course I do.
- 25:18Speaker 1: But that's Bill Clinton. He was just pulled on his pants. Here,
- 25:21Speaker 1: take a look.
- 25:22Speaker 3: What do you think? But I hate to say that.
- 25:23Speaker 3: This all went on, Mark. This all went on. I mean,
- 25:26Speaker 3: I guess I was like that.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I mean, okay.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I have to say this really quickly. So when I
- 25:31Speaker 3: was Miss Louisiana, and I went up to the state
- 25:33Speaker 3: capitol to make a speech on young women in politics,
- 25:37Speaker 3: or young people in politics. So I didn't know, this
- 25:40Speaker 3: is before I knew anything about that. I was too
- 25:42Speaker 3: naive to know that Edward Edwards was going to hit
- 25:45Speaker 3: on me. So it was all men, because there was
- 25:47Speaker 3: no women in the Senate at the capitol. our Congress people.
- 25:52Speaker 3: So anyway, I get up in front and I make
- 25:54Speaker 3: this speech and it's so cute. And at the very end,
- 25:57Speaker 3: and I go, and my parents are there and I'd
- 25:58Speaker 3: like to thank Governor Edwards for making this all possible.
- 26:01Speaker 3: And I got this huge laugh and a standing ovation.
- 26:05Speaker 3: And I realized then I basically was saying, I made this,
- 26:10Speaker 3: they knew, they knew his whole womanizing thing.
- 26:12Speaker 2: He hit on everybody.
- 26:13Speaker 3: So when I said that it was hysterical, but that
- 26:15Speaker 3: was my first big laugh And I think at that
- 26:19Speaker 3: point on, at the tender age of 17, is why
- 26:22Speaker 3: I got into comedy later on.
- 26:24Speaker 1: So this governor, didn't it ever come out? Didn't anybody
- 26:27Speaker 1: ever do stories about his womanizing?
- 26:28Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh. That's what I'm saying.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Please.
- 26:31Speaker 3: You will get the biggest kick. I'm surprised that you
- 26:33Speaker 3: don't remember that because you know all this stuff. Legendary.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Edwin Edwards.
- 26:38Speaker 3: And like I said, devastatingly handsome. And had a reality
- 26:43Speaker 3: show recently. Not so many years ago. I mean, he
- 26:45Speaker 3: passed away not that long ago. Married a much younger
- 26:48Speaker 3: woman and had another child in his 80s.
- 26:49Speaker 1: All right, but wait a minute. This line of his,
- 26:53Speaker 1: you know, I'm putting your name in the sand here
- 26:56Speaker 1: in Florida. This doesn't really work on anybody, does it?
- 26:58Speaker 1: That kind of line?
- 26:59Speaker 3: Well, you're 16 years old and you have your parents
- 27:01Speaker 3: on the other phone and you're laughing hysterically. Of course not.
- 27:05Speaker 3: And then, you know, I was in all these pageants
- 27:08Speaker 3: at that time. So he pulls up to one of
- 27:09Speaker 3: the pageants I was in. And my first cousin, who's
- 27:11Speaker 3: from New York, she's with me. And he's in a
- 27:15Speaker 3: state car, a state Louisiana trooper car. And he's in
- 27:19Speaker 3: the backseat. And the trooper comes out of his bodyguard
- 27:22Speaker 3: and says, Governor Edwards would like you to get in
- 27:24Speaker 3: the backseat of the car with him. Now, my cousin's
- 27:27Speaker 3: walking around. I get into the backseat. He totally starts
- 27:30Speaker 3: to try to make out with me. And I'm laughing hysterically.
- 27:32Speaker 3: This is why I use comedy as a defense my
- 27:34Speaker 3: entire career.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah, but wait, isn't there a driver in this car?
- 27:38Speaker 3: Well, the driver got out and I got in. He says,
- 27:42Speaker 3: I'm a baby. Seriously, I'm totally underage. I mean, I
- 27:46Speaker 3: guess I was 17 at that point because I was
- 27:48Speaker 3: old enough to go into the Miss Louisiana pageant. And
- 27:50Speaker 3: my cousin's walking around and she doesn't know. We still
- 27:53Speaker 3: laugh about this to the day. She's a New Yorker
- 27:56Speaker 3: and she's she had her arm in a cast and
- 27:58Speaker 3: she's walking around. the state troopers walking around and I'm
- 28:01Speaker 3: in the backseat of the car with the governor. You
- 28:03Speaker 3: think these guys couldn't, wouldn't have gotten in trouble, right?
- 28:06Speaker 2: All right.
- 28:06Speaker 1: But the governor is pawing you. How did you get
- 28:08Speaker 1: out of there?
- 28:10Speaker 3: I laughed in his face. I thought it was the
- 28:12Speaker 3: funniest thing I ever, I ever saw because you're a baby,
- 28:17Speaker 3: you know, some old man, even though he's good looking,
- 28:19Speaker 3: but you know, he's old enough to be your father.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And did he smell like old spice?
- 28:24Speaker 3: No, he was really hot. He really was. And then
- 28:27Speaker 3: later on, when I went to the pageant, In Miss Louisiana,
- 28:31Speaker 3: my sister was my chaperone and my sister was beautiful
- 28:34Speaker 3: and a little older than me. He hit on her too.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I told my sister, you should have gone to bed
- 28:42Speaker 3: with him because you had nothing to lose. You were
- 28:44Speaker 3: newly divorced and maybe I would have won the pageant. See,
- 28:47Speaker 3: I would get in so much trouble saying this in
- 28:49Speaker 3: front of women. I mean, because back then you could
- 28:51Speaker 3: have a sense of humor about this.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I Googled this guy, Edwin Edwards. He's okay looking. He's
- 28:58Speaker 1: not that handsome.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Look at him in his youth.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I am. He's not that handsome.
- 29:01Speaker 3: I mean, yes, he was.
- 29:03Speaker 1: He was.
- 29:03Speaker 3: He had the slick. He was called, they call that
- 29:06Speaker 3: slick tongue, that Cajun accent. And he would tell joke
- 29:10Speaker 3: after joke and he charmed everyone. But you've got to
- 29:13Speaker 3: look up like the stories about that. He wouldn't, he
- 29:16Speaker 3: would laugh about, okay, one more story because I never got.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Out of town, Tom.
- 29:19Speaker 3: I can't believe this was my show. But anyway, I'm
- 29:22Speaker 3: doing a commercial years later doing my up all night days.
- 29:26Speaker 3: And so I'm in my 30s. I'm in New Orleans,
- 29:28Speaker 3: and it was for Barks Root Beer, which is a
- 29:30Speaker 3: big local root beer. And they have all these celebrities.
- 29:32Speaker 3: They have me. They have him. They've got the Coach
- 29:35Speaker 3: of the Saints, all these different local celebrities in New Orleans.
- 29:38Speaker 3: And they had me whisper something in his ear. about
- 29:40Speaker 3: the soft drink. And we're on live mic, okay? But
- 29:43Speaker 3: he doesn't realize. He's got a lavalier. I've got a
- 29:46Speaker 3: lavalier on. We're getting ready to shoot the bit. And
- 29:49Speaker 3: he says to me, and I can't say the word,
- 29:50Speaker 3: but you can fill in the blanks. He goes, you know,
- 29:52Speaker 3: I should have you when I had the chance. Well,
- 29:56Speaker 3: he never had the chance, but he should have, you
- 29:58Speaker 3: know what, blanked.
- 29:59Speaker 2: When he had the chance.
- 30:00Speaker 3: And the entire, the sound man, the cameraman, every person
- 30:05Speaker 3: in the studio turned around and looked at.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Me and just went, oh.
- 30:09Speaker 3: He literally just, you know, said that on a live mic.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Hey, it says he served four terms as governor. He
- 30:13Speaker 1: got through four terms without ever any scandal?
- 30:16Speaker 3: Oh, no. There was so much scandal.
- 30:18Speaker 2: They loved him.
- 30:19Speaker 3: If he was alive right now, he'd win again. That's
- 30:21Speaker 3: Louisiana politics were salacious. They were fabulous.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah. All right, well, I'm going to go watch video
- 30:28Speaker 1: of this guy.
- 30:29Speaker 3: You've got to. Really and truly. And I'll send you
- 30:31Speaker 3: some pictures. I sent you a couple of pictures just
- 30:33Speaker 3: now because I'm coming to town. Last announcement before you
- 30:36Speaker 3: throw me off. And your other person says, why don't
- 30:38Speaker 3: you have a politician on? But you can say I
- 30:39Speaker 3: was a politician. And I lost by 135 votes.
- 30:41Speaker 1: You're coming to New York?
- 30:43Speaker 3: I'm coming to New York and I want, and I'm,
- 30:45Speaker 3: I'm inviting you right now in front of all of

- 30:57Speaker 3: but you know, of you telling me all the legendary
- 31:00Speaker 3: spots of New York and about the legendary comics, because
- 31:04Speaker 3: you and I just did that very briefly. I think
- 31:06Speaker 3: it would be an amazing special.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Rhonda Shearer was here a few weeks ago and
- 31:11Speaker 1: we were outside and I said, That spot right there
- 31:14Speaker 1: is where the theater was, where they did The Honeymooners.
- 31:15Speaker 1: This is where they did this show.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh. He is amazing when he gets into it.
- 31:20Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, everybody knows your listeners love you,
- 31:23Speaker 3: as we all do. But your stories about legendary New
- 31:26Speaker 3: York and the Friars Club, you know, they'll be lost.
- 31:30Speaker 3: So I want to do that with you. And my
- 31:32Speaker 3: team is behind it. So I just want you to
- 31:34Speaker 3: know that. I'm inviting you now so that everybody will
- 31:36Speaker 3: watch it. But I'll give you first billing. It'll be
- 31:39Speaker 3: Mark and Rhonda.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Okay. I like it. I like it. Before we only
- 31:42Speaker 1: got a minute left. You're doing a Roku channel. Where
- 31:46Speaker 1: could everybody watch? Yes.
- 31:47Speaker 3: So right.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:48Speaker 3: So it's a Roku app. You can just, you have
