Latest / Kenny Wallace Media / Mexico Race In Jeopardy? Lawsuits & Penalties, Breaking Down All The NASCAR Drama | Kenny Wallace Show
Transcript
- 0:00Hello everybody, it's the Kenny Wallace show.
- 0:02There he is. Herm, the herminator, Kenny
- 0:04Wallace. I am Charlie Marlowe.
- 0:07And Kenny, you've obviously been down there.
- 0:09We can't say Daytona. You're in Ormond Beach, FL and
- 0:13then you come back home here to Saint Louis where I am as well.
- 0:17And you, you called me earlier tonight.
- 0:19You said, hey, there's there's so many NASCAR hot topics going
- 0:23on this past week. We got to do a live show on
- 0:25YouTube and basically just talk about all of them, right?
- 0:29Yeah, Charlie, I I pretty much say, you know, when we joke
- 0:33emergency press conference, you know, it, it started piling up
- 0:37on us so much. And you know, we we all watched
- 0:40it going on. But like, but then you know,
- 0:43when Bob Pocras came out this evening, it's like that's when I
- 0:46decided to call you. I said, Charlie, it's just
- 0:49getting ridiculous. Let me let me say this before
- 0:54you you start talking about it all.
- 0:58You know I was in Circuit of the America on Sunday and the the
- 1:03NASCAR race was awesome. I firmly believe that NASCAR
- 1:08right now is is on a high. They have been getting it done.
- 1:14As you can clearly see the ratings are way up.
- 1:17Did you see that rating Charlie from Circuit of the America TV
- 1:21rating? Yes, 4.1 million people, that's
- 1:26good. That's just really good.
- 1:28So I just want to say before you get going that NASCAR on the
- 1:33competition side, the racing is doing really good, really good.
- 1:39So all right, you take it away from here.
- 1:42All right, got a bunch of comments coming in.
- 1:44Keep the comments coming and the questions as well.
- 1:47Or do you have 82 people watching and that is going to
- 1:49grow. So you mentioned what Bob
- 1:51Pockrus tweeted out earlier today.
- 1:54So we'll, we'll start with this story, which is the whole deal,
- 1:57the rumors basically about this NASCAR race in Mexico City.
- 2:01And apparently there's rumors now that it, that it may not
- 2:04happen. So I'll go ahead and read from
- 2:07Bob Pockrus's Twitter X feed. So about 8 hours ago.
- 2:12He says there have been rumors for several weeks that the
- 2:15Mexico race won't happen. Even though NASCAR brought
- 2:19drivers to Mexico last week, they did some some promotions
- 2:22there and had Mexican media at CODA this past weekend.
- 2:26I talked to NASCAR this morning. They're adamant that the Mexico
- 2:29race is good to go. Then he tweeted one more time.
- 2:33Let's see. Rumors of Mexico race not
- 2:35happening likely stem from the current state of relations
- 2:38between the two countries. Of course, everything going on
- 2:41with the tariffs and all that. And there are some in the garage
- 2:44who have anxiety about going just like there was some maybe
- 2:49not to same extent about racing in Chicago.
- 2:52I fully expect it to happen. That's coming from Bob Parkers.
- 2:56And I did find it kind of funny that the comparison was made to
- 3:01Chicago. And I understand, look, I love
- 3:03Chicago. Chicago.
- 3:05Chicago has its problems with crime.
- 3:07We all know that. And and Bob Parker's did say
- 3:10it's not to the same extent. I did find it kind of funny that
- 3:14that drivers were maybe comparing the crime rates in
- 3:17Mexico to Chicago. I got to chuckle out of that.
- 3:20Yeah, that was very funny actually.
- 3:24But I got to tell you, you know, any city, you go downtown, any,
- 3:29anywhere, you got to watch your back.
- 3:33So you know, I, I told my wife before, you know, we have three
- 3:36daughters. I said, I don't care where you
- 3:38go. You know, we're, we're going to
- 3:41go on a cruise at the end of this month before my race season
- 3:45starts. We start dirt racing April 4th,
- 3:485th. But at the end, you know, we're,
- 3:50we're going to some, we're going to some islands, not in Mexico,
- 3:55but my son-in-law Brody said they got an alert out to where
- 3:59we're going that, you know, we got to watch her back.
- 4:02And I said, Brody, I said that's everywhere all the time.
- 4:04I said, you know, look, if you all go downtown Saint Louis,
- 4:09downtown Chicago, downtown Philly, you go to a Super Bowl,
- 4:13a World Series, stay as a group, watch your back, you know, so I
- 4:21really feel like everything is getting exaggerated right now.
- 4:27I know a lot of people, Charlie. So I did, I did call my my
- 4:32sources and and they said it's it's the same old, same old.
- 4:37You know, you have a group of people that you know, they say
- 4:40it so much that it almost becomes true.
- 4:43So now you got to defend yourself.
- 4:45But at the end, my source said this is nothing that some
- 4:50tequila and beer can't fix. So, you know, NASCAR was
- 4:57adamant, but I think you and I are commenting on it because I
- 5:03never realized it, Charlie. But this anxiety thing, anxiety,
- 5:07maybe anxiety was around in the 1960s, but I didn't know it.
- 5:11It's like the word anxiety is a famous word now.
- 5:15I got anxiety. I mean, there's times I feel, am
- 5:17I nervous or do I have anxiety? Am I nervous or do I have
- 5:22anxiety? So Bob Popras reporting that
- 5:25crew members have anxiety going to Mexico.
- 5:30So there's no way you can convince me that Mexico does not
- 5:36want this to happen. You got some of the wealthiest
- 5:39people in Mexico City, Mexico, that want NASCAR, you know, the
- 5:44tariffs, the political side. You know, that's just all the
- 5:49time. You could say the same thing
- 5:51about going to Canada. But right now we just let our
- 5:57government do what they're doing it to me.
- 6:00It's, you know, it's when you see everybody face to face, it's
- 6:03kind of an inside joke. You know, the you know, if you
- 6:07see your buddies in Canada, you know, I got, you know, Colton
- 6:12Perrico, Saint Louis Blues player, you know, he's a friend
- 6:15of mine. I'm not, I'm not going to say
- 6:17nothing to him about the tariffs.
- 6:20He's from, he's from Canada. It's it's like you going to the
- 6:23Media Center for the Blues and go, what about the tariffs?
- 6:27It's just stuff you don't talk about when you get involved in
- 6:29sports. But my sources tell me that, you
- 6:35know, there's nothing to it. My sources do tell me, though,
- 6:42that, you know, maybe they should just took the Cup series
- 6:46down there because they they are taking the Cup series and the
- 6:49Xfinity Series. And usually when you bring a, a,
- 6:54a second series down, Charlie, what that does is that keeps the
- 6:58downtime up. So in other words, you know that
- 7:02the Cup cars go out on the track and now they don't want the fans
- 7:07to leave. So then they have the Xfinity
- 7:09cars come on the track and that keeps a lot of entertainment
- 7:13going. So I feel like the reason the
- 7:15Xfinity Series is going down there, that will keep the
- 7:19entertainment up. So there's not a law.
- 7:22But listen, I've raced there three times.
- 7:24I've raced in the Xfinity Series on my best finish I think was 6.
- 7:30But I've been all over Mexico City, Mexico, and I didn't have
- 7:33any issues. And I go to Mexico all the time.
- 7:37But you know, it's like anything, keep your head on a
- 7:41swivel, just like if you're going downtown, any city.
- 7:45So I'd like to hear what you have to say.
- 7:48But I'm pretty much, I feel like everything's going to be just
- 7:51fine. Yeah.
- 7:52I have one more question for you.
- 7:54From what you've heard, these rumors was it was it from the
- 7:59get go when the race was announced to Mexico City that
- 8:02we'll see what happens or is it more of what happened in the
- 8:05last let's say month or so with the tariffs and all that that
- 8:08that has stirred up this latest round of, of rumors.
- 8:12That I cannot answer you. I don't know when the exact
- 8:14timeline was, but however, I can tell you that my redneck friends
- 8:19out there, I love you all, but you know who you are.
- 8:24I love you. I'm a redneck, OK?
- 8:26All my redneck race fans, you know me, I imitate them.
- 8:30I, I not believe they go to Mexico when they should be going
- 8:35to South Boston, you know, So I mean, listen, there's a lot of
- 8:41money, you know, in Mexico City, Mexico, and I'm going to Google
- 8:48it. Do you remember that?
- 8:48The wealthiest guy there? Oh, is it?
- 8:52Is it? Is it Carlos Slim?
- 8:54Yeah, boy, that how'd you remember that name?
- 8:56Well, I remember it was from it. Was it from the Daniel Suarez?
- 9:00Yes. Conversation.
- 9:03Yes, yes. So Carlos Slim, you know, he's
- 9:08got a big phone company down there and there's there's a lot
- 9:11of money down there. So NASCAR's not going there
- 9:14because they're going to lose money.
- 9:16Every time I've gone there for the Xfinity race, it's a sea of
- 9:20people. I think it's a great idea just
- 9:23because you want to race where you're appreciated.
- 9:27I mean, listen, there's a there's a lot of race tracks
- 9:29here in America that I could say they don't appreciate you.
- 9:33They don't deserve a date. But I know when I when I raced
- 9:36the Bush Grand National Series, I think at the time it was
- 9:38called the Nationwide Series. When I raced the Nationwide
- 9:42Series, they wanted us there. And I mean, there was horns
- 9:46blowing and they they they're, they're like Formula One, you
- 9:50know, and speak of that Formula One race is there all the time
- 9:52now. They just got done racing there
- 9:54and they celebrate racing there, Charlie.
- 9:58So all I ever heard to answer your question is NASCAR's going
- 10:05to Mexico City and then all the rednecks come out.
- 10:08My friends, I not believe they go to Mexico when they could be
- 10:13racing Eldora. So I think that's pretty much
- 10:19what I heard, you know, but I don't know.
- 10:22Yeah, I don't know the timeline. Thomas Johnston comments and he
- 10:26says opens the market, basically talking about opening up that
- 10:30market and and the country Mexico to NASCAR.
- 10:33And that's what I'm thinking here because you talk about
- 10:36money and obviously you can go to Mexico City, there's a lot of
- 10:40money there. But to me, the future, I mean,
- 10:42you're building fans, but the money's got to be the fact that
- 10:46you can have the media rights deal in a different country,
- 10:49right? I mean, I feel like it's the
- 10:51same way the NFL is always trying to go over there to
- 10:54London and and build a fan base in Europe and all that.
- 10:57If you can all of a sudden, we, we talk all the time and we're
- 10:59going to later in the show here about the, the lawsuit and the
- 11:03money coming from that, that the TV deal, right?
- 11:07The, the teams and NASCAR are splitting that up.
- 11:11And if you can add a, another country all of a sudden to that
- 11:15TV package, I mean that that's where the millions, if not
- 11:18billions of dollars in the future come from.
- 11:21So I, I totally get it. But I also understand how if
- 11:25you're living in Charlotte and you've already been going, you
- 11:28know, you're coming to what Phoenix this weekend and Vegas
- 11:30and back and forth homestead and then the haulers down to Mexico
- 11:34City. I can totally get how from a
- 11:36logistical standpoint that's that's really tough on the
- 11:39teams. Oh, this can be debated till the
- 11:45cows come home, as they say down South, you know, you could
- 11:49easily say, hey, we should go to so the we should go to the, you
- 11:53know, the Alabama Motorsports Plex, you know, where IndyCar
- 11:57runs. I mean, there's a boatload of
- 11:58race tracks. I mean, people are still shaking
- 12:00their head why we are not running, you know, the road
- 12:05course up there, you know, above Milwaukee.
- 12:09I got brain fade. What's the name of that road
- 12:11course? Rd.
- 12:11America. Rd.
- 12:12America, you know, I mean to me, you know, I'm not going to
- 12:16question NASCAR because it's very clear when they don't
- 12:20listen. Rd.
- 12:21America was standing room only people in the grass everywhere.
- 12:26So it's very clear it wasn't the people, the reason they left
- 12:30there. And you know, we're trying.
- 12:33We're not telling NASCAR what to do by any means.
- 12:35We're trusting them. And and what we're seeing is
- 12:38Steve Phelps, by the way, I got to tell you something.
- 12:43I sat next to Steve Phelps yesterday when I left Daytona
- 12:48and I was on American Airlines. Steve Phelps, the president.
- 12:54I mean, you talk about a coincidence.
- 12:57It's right next to me. He could not have been nicer,
- 13:00Charlie. I think they like what we're
- 13:02doing here, you know, on on our shows.
- 13:06And we didn't talk racing. But he was so nice to me.
- 13:08But I compliment him. I said, Steve, I said you guys
- 13:12got it going on. I said these races are
- 13:14unbelievable. Congratulations.
- 13:17And then we, you know, Rusty gave me a little lesson.
- 13:20When you converse with NASCAR, don't don't start talking, you
- 13:24know, about racing. So but Steve Phelps, the
- 13:28president, NASCAR was extremely nice to me yesterday.
- 13:32So, yeah, I mean, here you go. You know, Lance is saying, you
- 13:35know, NASCAR should go to Everett.
- 13:37Now, I'm having fun, Lance, don't get mad at me.
- 13:40But here's a perfect example. Why is NASCAR going to Mexico?
- 13:44They should come to Evergreen Speedway in Washington state.
- 13:47However, the Xfinity Series is already up there racing, right?
- 13:53But it still goes to what Steve Phelps says.
- 13:55Steve says, listen, we're going to sell part of NASCAR and we're
- 14:00going to go global. And that was news a month ago.
- 14:03So if Steve Phelps says we're going to sell part of our sport
- 14:08because we need to raise money, we're going to go global, then,
- 14:11you know, we don't need to keep moaning about it and
- 14:14complaining. We're just going to go, oh,
- 14:16makes sense. Now we're saying that's why
- 14:19they're going to Mexico. It's because they say they want
- 14:21to go global. How many global races?
- 14:23I don't know. You know, and our friend at
- 14:26Dirty MO Media, Dale Junior, Dale Junior is like, I don't
- 14:29know why we need to go overseas. We got plenty of racing over
- 14:31here, and I agree with Dale Junior to an extent, But when
- 14:35NASCAR tells us no, we want to go global, then OK, if you want
- 14:40to go global, then I understand why you're going to Mexico City.
- 14:46All right, So we cited Bob Parker's of Fox Sports earlier
- 14:49in terms of these rumors about Mexico City and what we'll do it
- 14:52again here. And this is good for anybody
- 14:55who's trying to follow the lawsuit because they basically
- 14:58have an article on foxsports.com and it's always there about the
- 15:02lawsuit and it provides updates every time there's an update.
- 15:06So if you're trying to get caught up in the lawsuit, you
- 15:08can go and you can see all the updates throughout the last
- 15:11whatever it is, four or five months.
- 15:12So here's the March 5th update. Couple of days ago.
- 15:17I'll just read. I'll read 2 paragraphs real
- 15:18quick. NASCAR filed a counterclaim
- 15:21alleging that during the negotiations for a new charter
- 15:25agreement, 2311 co-owner Curtis Pull, who's the longtime
- 15:29business manager for Michael Jordan and the 2311 and Front
- 15:34Row Motorsports teams, conspired to use tactics that violated
- 15:39antitrust law. NASCAR cited Polk organizing a
- 15:43boycott of a charter required team meeting with owners.
- 15:47And, and I, I remember that from a couple years ago that that
- 15:50meeting that was boycotted. Also, they allegedly tried to
- 15:54organize a boycott of a qualifying event, a boycott that
- 15:58did not happen. NASCAR alleges the teams
- 16:01colluded to get better terms in the charter agreement that they
- 16:04quote, obtained charter agreements that contained more
- 16:08beneficial terms for race teams than would have been obtained in
- 16:11the absence of collusion, including terms relating to
- 16:16duration of the charters and financial floors.
- 16:19I know it's a lot of legalese there but basically NASCAR is
- 16:24now counter suing 2311 Racing and Front Row Motorsports after
- 16:292311 Racing and Front Row Motorsports sued them going back
- 16:34to October. So as we always say, Charlie,
- 16:39we're going to do bullshit this. We're going to put it in
- 16:41redneck, redneck terms. Yes, I always make fun of the
- 16:44fancy words and I understand why we have to have these fancy
- 16:48words. We go to college, we become
- 16:51attorneys and we got to use the right verbiage.
- 16:53But we're going to dumb this down.
- 16:55It's going to be short and sweet.
- 16:56What I'm going to say, NASCAR has had enough of Curtis Polk.
- 17:02They feel like he's the ringleader and NASCAR is pissed
- 17:07and they're just, they just said, OK, I believe, I believe.
- 17:12Let me read this real quick here.
- 17:14I did take a snapshot. OK, I'm going to read this.
- 17:19What is NASCAR counterclaiming? In the counterclaim, Polk is
- 17:25repeatedly singled out as the ringleader against the.
- 17:29Current. Charter Oh, hold on guys.
- 17:33I got to tell Kim my wife's calling me.
- 17:36And as you all know, if you don't answer your wife coming,
- 17:41hold on. Let me just tell Kim what we're
- 17:43doing here. All good.
- 17:44I'll, I'll, I'll talk while you're doing that because I also
- 17:48want to say so. So basically NASCAR from from
- 17:52what I read from Bob Parker's, NASCAR wants to kind of get rid
- 17:58of the the guaranteed spots for these teams that are suing them.
- 18:04NASCAR is basically saying you can't, you can't sue us and then
- 18:08still get these guaranteed spots in these races.
- 18:11But from what I read, this is going to happen later in the
- 18:14year. This is an injunction deal.
- 18:16Again, we're trying to, we're trying to just kind of use like
- 18:208th grade language. Here we have to, right?
- 18:23And I don't understand it either, but from from what I've
- 18:25read, NASCAR couldn't achieve that unless it went to trial.
- 18:30So from what I read, nothing's going to change this year for
- 18:342025. But if it were to go to trial in
- 18:37December, NASCAR, and if and if that thing lasted a long time,
- 18:42it it looks like NASCAR will be fighting to say, well, hey, in
- 18:452026, then 2311 racing and Front Row Motorsports, we don't want
- 18:49you to have a guaranteed spot while you're suing us.
- 18:53I'm going to read this in a minute here, but to your point,
- 18:56I want to, I want to add on to what you said and what I'm going
- 18:59to say is wholeheartedly the way I feel.
- 19:03NASCAR tried making the teams happy by giving them a charter
- 19:08system and it sounds really good because you got guys like Bud
- 19:13Moore, Richard Petty, Junior Johnson.
- 19:18These guys didn't have a pot to piss in and at the very end of
- 19:24their lifespan all they had was a an old race car building and
- 19:30parts. So, you know, it, it is nice to
- 19:35when it's all over, you can sell your race team, your starting
- 19:38position. OK, now that I've said that
- 19:41NASCAR should have never done it.
- 19:44They should have never offered a charter up.
- 19:47But I do want to say this about NASCAR.
- 19:51I truly believe this. They tried to do the right
- 19:55thing. They're like, let's give them a
- 19:57charter that way, you know, they can sell this.
- 20:02But they never, ever thought that Michael Jordan and you
- 20:08know. Front row would come and have
- 20:11all this fighting. So, OK, let me let me read to
- 20:19you this so everybody understands.
- 20:22Jennifer. The Associated Press, this is
- 20:24where this comes from. What is NASCAR counterclaiming
- 20:30in the counterclaim? Polk is repeatedly singled out
- 20:34as the ringleader against the current charter proposals.
- 20:38NASCAR attorney Christopher Yates went so far as tell The
- 20:42Associated Press that Polk, who in addition to being George's
- 20:47business manager, is a co-owner of 2311 along with three time
- 20:52Daytona 500 winner Danny Hamlin. And they're saying Polk does not
- 20:58understand NASCAR business model.
- 21:01And NASCAR is saying Curtis Polk basically orders orchestrated
- 21:06and threatened a boycott, as you said, of one of the qualifying
- 21:10races for a major event and others did not go along with
- 21:14him, Yates said. Now Yates is the NASCAR
- 21:18attorney. He got other teams to boycott a
- 21:21meeting that was required by the charter.
- 21:24And then in the end, I think This is why NASCAR has finally
- 21:27had enough. When you have a threatened
- 21:29boycott of NASCAR qualifying races that are covered by media,
- 21:34that's not good for the race teams and not good for
- 21:38everything we're trying to do collectively for the sport.
- 21:41So in the end, the reason you and I called this emergency pest
- 21:47conference is NASCAR's had enough.
- 21:50And they're like, we're going to sue your ass and we're we're
- 21:53going to sue you for for what? Everything I just read, I just
- 21:57read it. That came from Jennifer, The
- 22:00Associated Press. And that was all, you know,
- 22:04NASCAR's Yates, you know, Yates said all that.
- 22:09So basically NASCAR saying Curtis Polk has conspired to for
- 22:16all these teams to like, not run a practice session, you know,
- 22:20it, boycott a meeting, you know, and we still got a lot more to
- 22:25talk about. But in the end, you know what do
- 22:30what do you feel? I'm just going to say this.
- 22:32I think NASCAR's had it up to here.
- 22:35And, and I want to add this before I let you talk.
- 22:41NASCAR said we will not settle, we will go to court.
- 22:46So that tells me how how mad they are.
- 22:50So yeah. Yeah, and I'll read.
- 22:52I'll read real quick. Also the response from Jeffrey
- 22:54Kessler. He's the attorney for 2311 in
- 22:57front row. They call it a meritless
- 22:59distraction. And the quote is my client's
- 23:02lawsuit has always been about transforming NASCAR into a more
- 23:05competitive and fair sport for the benefit of drivers, fans,
- 23:09sponsors and teams. Because of their love of the
- 23:12sport. Every major sport goes through a
- 23:15transition to competition when antitrust claims are asserted,
- 23:19and that moment has come for NASCAR.
- 23:21I won't read the whole thing there, but yeah, NASCAR's.
- 23:25NASCAR's pissed. Obviously I haven't changed my
- 23:28opinion on this. I just look now it, it certainly
- 23:33looks like it's going to go to court.
- 23:35At first. I I just have always felt that I
- 23:39think NASCAR is going to have to budget a bit when it's all said
- 23:44and done, no doubt. I just think when you do look at
- 23:47the quote I just read, it's NASCAR's time, whether you like
- 23:51it or not and whether NASCAR wins or not, this antitrust
- 23:54union type stuff, it happens in every single sport and it
- 23:59happens. It's happened in other sports.
- 24:004030, I mean, Curt Flood, Curt Flood with the Saint Louis
- 24:04Cardinals, when was that? The 70s?
- 24:06That's when they fought it in baseball.
- 24:08So we're talking 50 some years ago and now it's coming to
- 24:11NASCAR. I don't know if it's going to go
- 24:13to trial. It looks like it will now, but I
- 24:15do think in the end, NASCAR is probably going to have to budget
- 24:19a little bit and, and carve that pie up a little bit more and
- 24:23probably going away from the tracks and NASCAR to the teams.
- 24:27That's, that's what I think is going to happen eventually.
- 24:29I, I don't know the percentage that they're going to have to
- 24:31give up, but I, I think they're going to have to give up a
- 24:33little bit. I admire you because you're
- 24:36very, you're very knowledgeable. You cover a lot of sports.
- 24:40You've seen it all. You've seen more than I have.
- 24:43I know that you've been inside those locker rooms and you know
- 24:46what's going on in Major League Baseball, NFL.
- 24:49When you and I met, that's what you were doing.
- 24:54I'll say this, I'm going to dumb it down a little bit more.
- 24:59And this is what my source told me.
- 25:03There's going to be a whole lot of money spent on these
- 25:07lawsuits. And it is a shame.
- 25:10You know, when you go to court, like say for a divorce, they
- 25:16say, listen, we want the husband and wife to go into a room and
- 25:21we want you guys to try to figure this out because we don't
- 25:24want to tell you what you're going to do.
- 25:26They say that all the time. You know, you hear it.
- 25:29You know, it is a shame that they just could not figure this
- 25:35out because I can't imagine the millions and millions of
- 25:40dollars. I mean, these attorneys, these
- 25:42guys are, you know, all day long.
- 25:45It's $600.00 an hour and you know, these, these type of guys,
- 25:49there's no telling what these guys are making an hour and
- 25:52they're full time. So the millions of dollars that
- 25:57NASCAR is spending on these attorneys and you know, 2311 and
- 26:03front, it amazes me where front row's getting all their money.
- 26:06I don't know who's, you know, maybe it's maybe it's Curtis
- 26:10Polk, you know, because he's been Michael's manager.
- 26:13It'd be, it'd be interesting. Just saying on the race car
- 26:17driver side, you know, or the race team side, who's the one
- 26:20flipping the bill. But I'm just saying it's really
- 26:23sad that they just couldn't figure this out on their own.
- 26:27You know, man, it is a it is a mess, you know?
- 26:31So I just felt like, you know, I was done talking about this
- 26:38until NASCAR said, no, we're going to sue you.
- 26:41It's like Schrader don't want to talk about it.
- 26:43You know, when we do, Herman Schrader's like, not my deal,
- 26:45man. I'm like, OK, not our deal,
- 26:48Schrader. But.
- 26:48But now NASCAR's announced they're suing them.
- 26:51So it it is a shame for another reason.
- 26:55The sport is doing so good right now. 4.1 million people watch
- 27:01that race. You know, the racing's
- 27:03incredible. So yeah.
- 27:08I will say just finishing on this topic, though, I'm
- 27:12wondering because the the sport is doing so well.
- 27:15I just wonder if modern sports fans, if they if they look at it
- 27:21as much as a negative. And I say that because if you're
- 27:25a sports fan, you've been through this so many times.
- 27:28I mean, I was born in 1982. So the first, the baseball
- 27:31strike was the first time I really felt this.
- 27:33They didn't have a World Series 1994.
- 27:35They come back. It did take baseball a while to
- 27:38get their fans back. But then you had right, the
- 27:41steroids arrow with the with the home run, Chase McGuire, Sosa,
- 27:44you had Cal Ripken with his streak and all that.
- 27:48So baseball obviously suffered. And this is 30 years ago.
- 27:51But you tell me, Herm, as a sports fan now, in the last 30
- 27:54years, I've seen so many strikes and so many lockouts in every
- 27:59sport. I mean, I covered one when the
- 28:01Rams NFL is about whatever it was 1012 years ago.
- 28:05There's always lockouts, there's always strikes, even if it's in
- 28:08the offseason. I wonder if sports fans have
- 28:10kind of been desensitized where it's not as big of a deal, even
- 28:14though it's the first time it's happening in NASCAR, because
- 28:16they've seen this happen so many times in all the other sports
- 28:19they watch. Man, you bring up a great point.
- 28:23I love baseball so much, you know?
- 28:26And I love the Saint Louis Cardinals so much that when they
- 28:28went on strike, I was pissed. I didn't like any of them.
- 28:33I ain't never watching again, you know, because they hurt me.
- 28:37Because, you know, one of the most emotional phrases of all
- 28:41time for me is the boys of summer.
- 28:45When you say the boys of summer, that just reminds me of a 90°
- 28:49man. The sun's going down.
- 28:51Busch Stadium beer and peanuts. Let's go.
- 28:54Cardinals happy. And you're and, and y'all are
- 28:57taking this away from me because you're fighting over money and
- 29:01here I am making $25,000 a year. Pissed me off the no end.
- 29:06So you bring up a really good point, Charlie.
- 29:11I don't I think it's different in NASCAR.
- 29:14I don't think the fans care because now they they don't care
- 29:19right now, but they're going to care if you know for some reason
- 29:27all these race cars don't show up.
- 29:28But you can read in the lawsuit you only got you you got you got
- 29:33basically 36 charters. OK, there's two teams.
- 29:40I had this said to me before by Jake Elder, an old, a great crew
- 29:45chief. He said it's sad to say, but
- 29:49they're going to race with or without us.
- 29:52NASCAR don't need those two teams now.
- 29:55They want them, but you know, they want them all, but they
- 30:00don't need them, you know, and they can easily, easily, you
- 30:05know, race with no problem without them.
- 30:09But but I can tell you NASCAR's got their big boy pants on right
- 30:13now because there's no doubt in my mind.
- 30:16I'm not putting words in anybody's mouth.
- 30:18But if I'm NASCAR, I and I don't like using this word because my
- 30:23Mama taught me, don't ever use the word hate.
- 30:26But if I'm NASCAR right now, I hate, hate this, this whole, all
- 30:33these people in this situation. There's no way NASCAR can be
- 30:37going. Oh, it'll be OK.
- 30:39You know, they probably hate those people right now.
- 30:43It it pains me to say that, but we're trying to dumb everything
- 30:47down here to communicate with everybody.
- 30:49So, yeah, I like it that you did bring that up because, boy, that
- 30:53pissed me off. I will never forget the Major
- 30:57League Baseball and the players union.
- 30:58Strike it. We couldn't.
- 31:00We couldn't even watch baseball 'cause they arguing over money.
- 31:03Yep, all right. Let's move on here to some some
- 31:09penalty news. This was a couple days ago.
- 31:11Wednesday was the huge news for NASCAR.
- 31:13Everything dropped on Wednesday with the penalties, with the
- 31:17with the lawsuit, the counter suit and all that.
- 31:19So Chase Briscoe, this doesn't happen very often where Chase
- 31:22Briscoe, they just Joe Gibbs Racing, they just win this, they
- 31:26win this appeal. So everything is overturned.
- 31:30I mean, huge fine and penalty and all the points.
- 31:34So he gets them all back. And basically this is coming
- 31:36right from nascar.com. So it was about the spoiler and
- 31:40they say the panel, this is the panel that overturned it.
- 31:44The panel believes that the elongation of some of the holes
- 31:47on the number 19 cup car spoiler base is caused by the process of
- 31:51attaching that specific spoiler base to the rear deck and not
- 31:56modification of the single source part.
- 31:59So they're saying, look, they didn't actually try to fiddle
- 32:03with it, It's just basically when they were attaching the
- 32:08spoiler. So Chase Bristol's good now.
- 32:11Yeah, and, and I want to say this to help you out a little
- 32:14bit. So what happens is you have
- 32:17holes and you got to put a bolt through the hole and then you
- 32:22screw it in. Well, they bought these parts
- 32:27from NASCAR and they went when they went to put the spoiler on,
- 32:32they couldn't bolt all the bolts in because it because it was
- 32:36bad, OK, It was bad. So I guess instead of calling
- 32:43NASCAR up and saying these these certain amount of bolts won't go
- 32:46in, they just took a file. Now I don't know if this is what
- 32:50they did, so don't hold me to it.
- 32:52But you know, they took a round file like this pen and they and
- 32:57this is the hole like this. And they go like this, Charlie,
- 33:00They take a, they take a file and they file out the hole a
- 33:03little bit so the bolt will go on so they can bolt the spoiler
- 33:07down. And sounds to me like, you know,
- 33:12calmer and more rational heads prevailed.
- 33:17And, you know, they, when the officials look at all this
- 33:21stuff, they don't want any of these holes to be messed with.
- 33:25Well, it's pretty simple. You know, the bolts would not go
- 33:31through the hole. So it's like the team said, oh,
- 33:34the Bolts won't go through the hole, but I'll tell you what,
- 33:36it's getting to me. It's getting to be anywhere.
- 33:38If you just touch the piece, you might ought to call NASCAR.
- 33:42And I think it I think the process is that tough.
- 33:46It's hard on these teams because you know it, it could be, it
- 33:50could be 6 O clock on a Thursday night and they're trying to bolt
- 33:52this spoiler on, you know, and and what are you going to do?
- 33:56Because some listen, as professional as these teams are,
- 34:00sometimes they get, they get their backs against wall and
- 34:04they, they're not done at 5:00. You know, this, this notion that
- 34:09everybody punches out at 4:00 and 5:00, that's false.
- 34:15Sometimes these teams work overtime because like right now
- 34:19they're in Phoenix. Well, where are they going after
- 34:21Phoenix? They're going to Vegas.
- 34:23Or were they going? And you see what it starts
- 34:25piling up and they got to have these cars ready to go because
- 34:30they don't want to go to Phoenix this week.
- 34:33Then they don't want to take the tractor trailers income all the
- 34:37way back across the United States.
- 34:38So I'm just giving you a, a scenario how they probably just
- 34:44didn't have time, but it's getting to where, hey, you know,
- 34:47they might FaceTime NASCAR. That's what I thought.
- 34:52Maybe they're going to have to FaceTime them and go look, it's
- 34:555O clock at night. We're trying to bolt this damn
- 34:57spoiler on so we can get out to Vegas.
- 35:01So that is a scenario Charlie and and that's what happened.
- 35:06Yeah. So, you know, it's funny you
- 35:08said that when you said call NASCAR, that's the first thing I
- 35:11thought of. Now, again, we know sometimes
- 35:13these teams, they really are trying to get an edge, right?
- 35:17And they're they are trying to do some tweaks and try to see if
- 35:20nobody can catch them. But I'm thinking with, with the
- 35:23way NASCAR police's this, if if you're working on that car and
- 35:28there's anything that is even you're even 1% wondering if
- 35:33you're doing it wrong. Don't you have to, you said
- 35:35FaceTime. Don't you have to at least take
- 35:37a video while you're doing it to potentially show them, hey,
- 35:41here's why we did this because we were trying to bolt it on.
- 35:44We're just trying to do. But like I feel like you would
- 35:47at the minimum have to do that to cover yourself.
- 35:50If if there's anything that is not basically just strictly by
- 35:54the book, I feel like you would have to let them know at this
- 35:57point. I agree with you.
- 35:59Great idea. Yeah, because because I mean,
- 36:04there are still going to be people trying to gain an edge
- 36:06just like you said. The boy, you mess with that car
- 36:10one ounce because NASCAR makes every single piece.
- 36:15They make everything. And if they don't build the
- 36:18motor, but they might as well because they will bring it back
- 36:21to the chassis Dino, they can make you tear the motor down and
- 36:25they can measure everything inside that motor.
- 36:30OK, moving forward, Charlie, I want to talk just a little bit
- 36:33about this penalty. How big of a deal this is so
- 36:37chase Brusco was like basically like dead last like faster than
- 36:42last because it it came out of Daytona negative.
- 36:49So like he just, he, he was fined 100 points, but also he he
- 36:55was docked the ten playoff points, right?
- 36:59So you get the points for finishing.
- 37:01I think, I think he finished fourth or fifth, something like
- 37:06that. Six maybe Chase Brisco, I think
- 37:09he was sixth in the Daytona 500, whatever.
- 37:11So you get those points, right? You get those points.
- 37:15The NASCAR says, no, we're going to take those points away from
- 37:19you finishing sixth, but they're separate points.
- 37:24He he also received ten playoff points through the stage racing
- 37:29at Daytona. So he literally got 110 points
- 37:35added back on. So I'm going to exaggerate here,
- 37:39but he went from 40th in the points like the 5th.
- 37:43I'm exaggerating, but it's it's that scenario, you know, and
- 37:49listen to this. They find them $100,000 and as
- 37:56we all say, oh, that's no money, but that's a lot of money.
- 38:01And you know, and not and not just that, but the crew chief
- 38:08was going to be suspended for races.
- 38:11So you get 110 points back, you get your $100,000 back, and now
- 38:19you get your crew chief back. This was a massive appeal win.
- 38:26This was bigger than big, and that's why you and I decided to
- 38:30break it down a little bit. All right, so continuing with
- 38:35the the penalty drama, same day, always drama.
- 38:39We love the drama, but Austin Sindrich, so he is penalized.
- 38:43But I think, I think the big talk and the big controversy was
- 38:46why he wasn't suspended for a race.
- 38:50And NASCAR came out and, and the other races that they were
- 38:53comparing it to was Bubba Wallace on Kyle Larson, 2022
- 38:57Vegas and Chase Elliott on Denny Hamlin 2023 at Charlotte.
- 39:04And I, I think, I think what's, what's bothered some people is
- 39:09NASCAR is saying, look, we're going to look at every single
- 39:11one of these instances kind of uniquely, right?
- 39:16And, and I'll find the quote, but NASCAR basically said
- 39:19because it's a road course, because what, there was no
- 39:22caution and, and because the, the, the speeds are lower on a
- 39:28road course, essentially. I can give you the whole quote,
- 39:31but that's essentially I'm paraphrasing what they said.
- 39:33That's why it was different than the Bubba Wallace deal.
- 39:36That's why it was different than the Chase Elliott deal in their
- 39:39mind. And that's why Austin Syndrich
- 39:42was not suspended for a race. So I like what you said there
- 39:46and I'm even going to go with you.
- 39:49It's kind of like you remember a while there and we're still in
- 39:53it. Remember when when we said, you
- 39:55know, NASCAR's having a consistency issue when to throw
- 40:00the caution flag? Well, what calmed everybody down
- 40:06was that Atlanta finish where the wreck happened like it's 6th
- 40:11or 7th spot and. If you don't throw the caution
- 40:17and freeze the field, you're telling everybody from 7th on
- 40:21back to take a chance at killing themselves, race through the
- 40:26wreck. So we all were saying let him
- 40:29race back to the checkered flag. Hold on, everybody.
- 40:34This wasn't date. I mean it.
- 40:35It's kind of like Daytona, Talladega.
- 40:37But cooler heads prevailed. And then Denny Hamlin goes on
- 40:41actions detrimental and he agrees with NASCAR.
- 40:44He says you got to throw the caution because there's a guy
- 40:48running 20th. He's got to let off the gas.
- 40:50He can't race through this wreck.
- 40:52So I'm I'm agreeing with you, it is sad to say, but these are not
- 40:58balling strikes. This is not balling strikes.
- 41:02This is not baseball. It this, these are calls, these
- 41:09are human calls. So I want to say one more thing.
- 41:15We we watched that race and I watched the video.
- 41:19It's very clear you can go on Google right now and go Austin
- 41:27Sendrick wrecking Ty Dillon at Circuit of the America NASCAR
- 41:33race and boom, it comes right up.
- 41:37Here's what I saw happen. I saw Austin Sendrick kind of on
- 41:44the outside a little bit like left front, maybe up to the
- 41:48door, maybe in a blind spot of Ty Dillon.
- 41:52It is a my opinion that Ty doesn't know he's out there.
- 41:55Here's why I say that. Ty goes out and then at the last
- 42:00minute, Ty, you can see Ty go, Oh no.
- 42:03And he turns the left to like, like, oh, it, it, it's sign
- 42:08language, right? It's like you see Ty Dillon go,
- 42:11oh, no. And Ty Dillon turns left.
- 42:15And then you see Austin so mad he chases them halfway across
- 42:20the racetrack. And I mean, just he didn't spin
- 42:24him out. It's what we call hooks him.
- 42:26He hooked him. He took his left front and
- 42:30running into Ty's right rear in front of the field on the front
- 42:35straightaway. And it was, it was pretty ugly,
- 42:39but so you want to announce what the fine was?
- 42:45OK, so. I think it was, what, $50,000?
- 42:47I'll find it right here. So yes, here we go.
- 42:52Cindric loses 50 driver points. Fine.
- 42:55That's big. Yeah, fine, $50,000.
- 42:59And and you mentioned earlier about Briscoe.
- 43:01You know, Briscoe joked about it on Twitter.
- 43:03He said it's my best points day. I'll check that too.
- 43:08I think he went from 40th to maybe like 15th.
- 43:10But here's look at this because Cindric's been running well,
- 43:13obviously, especially on the superspeedways.
- 43:15Cindric drops with the 50 driver points.
- 43:19He drops from 11th to 35th. Holy crap, that's insane.
- 43:25That's bad. And and the other thing I found
- 43:29interesting is Dean Penske and Austin, they decide not to
- 43:34appeal it because Rodgers a no bullshit guy.
- 43:39Sorry for saying that. Hopefully I get away with that.
- 43:42It's all good. Rodger Penske has always been
- 43:47straight up, you know, we've said it before, Rodger Penske
- 43:50does not cheat. However his team might, you
- 43:53know, so I'm sure, I'm sure the manager of Penske Racing went to
- 43:57Austin and said, did you do this on purpose?
- 44:01And Austin probably said Yep, So they did not appeal it.
- 44:05So I got cottonmouth. I think that's it, everybody.
- 44:10I love it. No, it's, it is crazy though,
- 44:12that Briscoe, you're thinking Briscoe has has to win a race
- 44:18right before he gets his, his points back And, and, and you
- 44:20know what with Joe Gibbs Racing, Chase Briscoe probably should
- 44:24win a race. And then Austin Sidrick now, who
- 44:27was running really well and he's a he's a great superspeedway
- 44:30guy. But now that he's 35th, Kenny,
- 44:32don't you think Austin Sindrick probably has to win one of these
- 44:36super? I mean, what else is left?
- 44:38I'm thinking he obviously won here in Saint Louis, but that
- 44:40was kind of a a flukish win because what, Ryan Blaney ran
- 44:44out of gas, but Sindrick's going to have to win now.
- 44:48Yeah, Speaking of fluke, I, I know we're going to put this up
- 44:52on YouTube and it's going to be, you know, living up here on
- 44:56YouTube. It is Friday night everybody and
- 45:00it is March 7th and the ARCA engines are being fired in 5
- 45:06minutes. Talk about a fluke, Charlie.
- 45:08It rained and the weather was horrible in Phoenix, AZ on March
- 45:137th, but they are getting ready to fire up on Fox Sports 1 and
- 45:19it ARCA, I don't think they had any practice.
- 45:23I don't think he had anything and they're lined up by points,
- 45:28so that is going to be interesting.
- 45:31All right, you want to call it then now so people can go watch
- 45:34the race. We're good.
- 45:35We're right at 45 minutes and we've we've covered 4 big
