- 0:00Speaker 1: Relationship Talk Thursday here with the Power Couple Pastors the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Moaning Airica Glenn.
- 0:04Speaker 2: A man can't do it alone. Your presence unlocks his potential.
- 0:09Speaker 2: So what is it specifically.
- 0:10Speaker 1: That the woman can bring to the table.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I think, without making it too gender bias, she brings
- 0:16Speaker 3: a lot to the table, right, it's first of all,
- 0:18Speaker 3: I want to just say, it depends on our gifts.
- 0:21Speaker 3: So not every woman is the same, Okay, So but
- 0:23Speaker 3: number one, with that being said, bring your gifts. So
- 0:26Speaker 3: she brings her gifts to the marriage, to the relationship.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Her gifts are suitable, complementary, and helpful. There are areas
- 0:33Speaker 3: in her strengths that are obviously his weaknesses, and so
- 0:38Speaker 3: when she brings her gifts, that is a big thing
- 0:41Speaker 3: by itself.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I don't want to get into roles because that's different.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I don't want to say bringing your cooking skills because
- 0:48Speaker 3: you might not be a good thok you know what
- 0:49Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 0:50Speaker 4: He might be a better cook than you.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I just want to say, bring your gifts to the
- 0:53Speaker 3: relationship and let those gifts start to unpack and explore
- 0:58Speaker 3: what that looks like.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Value.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I think everything that he said, you know, a
- 1:03Speaker 5: woman knowing her gifts and bringing them to the marriage,
- 1:06Speaker 5: to the to the relationship.
- 1:08Speaker 6: But I would have to say, for me, just what.
- 1:11Speaker 5: I have seen over the years is your prayer life
- 1:15Speaker 5: as a woman. Your prayer life, to me, dictates the
- 1:18Speaker 5: temperament of your household, the prophetic voice for your house,
- 1:24Speaker 5: for your children, those the individuals that God has a
- 1:29Speaker 5: sign to your life, like laboring and praying for them
- 1:33Speaker 5: is just a major, major gift.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Let's get into it. Relationship talk Thursday.
- 1:42Speaker 2: It's Sonia with the Power Couple pastors demoted Erica Glenn.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Just in case folks are listening in for the first time.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I know y'all, but how would you introduce yourselves to
- 1:51Speaker 2: our listeners, to.
- 1:52Speaker 1: The world that's listening right now.
- 1:54Speaker 3: That's very interesting. Yeah, we're the Glens. Twenty years of marriage.
- 1:58Speaker 3: So we've been together, love of my life, partner and purpose.
- 2:03Speaker 3: We have three children. We serve as an executive pastor.
- 2:08Speaker 3: I do a New life here in Chicago, and we
- 2:13Speaker 3: have our own ministries to marriages and families. My wife
- 2:17Speaker 3: is a Crown's coach, who's who of America's teacher retire educator.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I go on, I go on, but you know, we
- 2:25Speaker 3: just love what we get to do and glad that
- 2:27Speaker 3: we get to do it here. Thanks for inviting us
- 2:29Speaker 3: and being a part of relationship talk Thursday.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah did he cover it pastor he covered it all?
- 2:34Speaker 1: You get it in?
- 2:35Speaker 4: He covered it all?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Okay? All right?
- 2:37Speaker 2: So a man can't do it alone. Your presence unlocks
- 2:42Speaker 2: his potential. So let's talk about that you were made
- 2:45Speaker 2: to multiply his mission, not mute your own. Yeah, right,
- 2:52Speaker 2: that's an agree. And why why past?
- 2:55Speaker 3: You know, because there has to be alignment. Attraction is important,
- 2:58Speaker 3: but assignment is equally as important as attraction. Of course,
- 3:02Speaker 3: please please please don't marry somebody you're not attracted to.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Please don't you go to look at them every day.
- 3:10Speaker 3: But beyond that attraction or what enhances that attraction is
- 3:15Speaker 3: the assignment.
- 3:15Speaker 4: The alignment.
- 3:16Speaker 3: So so the person that you wit doesn't feel like
- 3:19Speaker 3: that they're losing themselves in purpose. Right, everybody loses a
- 3:25Speaker 3: little bit of themselves in o mission, but don't feel
- 3:28Speaker 3: like they're losing themselves in purpose to be with you
- 3:32Speaker 3: as a partner. So alignment agreement for the excitement for
- 3:37Speaker 3: the assignment that God has put on your life. That's
- 3:39Speaker 3: how you unlock your potential. As I said as a
- 3:42Speaker 3: previous segment in Genesis, when God created woman in the
- 3:47Speaker 3: role of a wife in Genesis too, it was because
- 3:50Speaker 3: he gave Adam such an extreme assignment, a mandate, things
- 3:54Speaker 3: to accomplish, things to do, and say, you cannot do
- 3:57Speaker 3: this alone. It's not that you can and do it,
- 4:00Speaker 3: but you can accomplish it to the level that you
- 4:03Speaker 3: were created to accomplish it. And now I know people
- 4:06Speaker 3: don't like you know, oh, this is a love thing.
- 4:08Speaker 3: It's not a partnership. It's not a business. It's a marriage,
- 4:11Speaker 3: you know, and all that. But life is a business.
- 4:14Speaker 3: And at the end of the day, you can be
- 4:16Speaker 3: in love with somebody and attracted to them. But if
- 4:18Speaker 3: y'all not aligned in an assignment, it's gonna tear.
- 4:22Speaker 4: You're gonna pull in two different ways.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Being not unequally yoked is the picture of two animals
- 4:30Speaker 3: yoked together by the neck, walking at the same pace
- 4:33Speaker 3: in the same direction, plowing a field, pushing ahead.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Do not be unequally yoked. Don't mean both y'all gotta
- 4:39Speaker 4: be saved.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Both y'all gotta be fis you can be saved fildoligos
- 4:42Speaker 3: and be unequally yoked. It means do y'all walk at
- 4:45Speaker 3: the same pace? Are y'all on the same purpose? Do
- 4:48Speaker 3: you have the same passion? Are you puffshit for the
- 4:50Speaker 3: same mission? Because if those elements are not in place,
- 4:53Speaker 3: you can be in love, love, love all you want.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Eventually there's gonna be a tear. There's a lot of
- 4:58Speaker 3: people that's in love, they don't like who they're with.
- 5:01Speaker 3: There's a lot of people that's attracted, but they do
- 5:04Speaker 3: not share an assignment. And in some regards, we have
- 5:07Speaker 3: to understand what the big picture is so that we
- 5:10Speaker 3: can help push. So you don't mute your You don't
- 5:13Speaker 3: mute who you are as a person, and I don't
- 5:16Speaker 3: try to mute you.
- 5:17Speaker 4: If we're if.
- 5:18Speaker 3: We're aligned, If we're aligned, I amplify you. If we're aligned,
- 5:23Speaker 3: you become more I become more quen we together than
- 5:25Speaker 3: we are when we.
- 5:30Speaker 2: What are some real leugh examples of being aligned and
- 5:34Speaker 2: working in assignment, like maybe even in your lives, like
- 5:38Speaker 2: what is what is something?
- 5:39Speaker 6: How can we see this? You know visually realistically?
- 5:41Speaker 5: So I think with my husband what he what he
- 5:44Speaker 5: has said in the past, in regards to marriages, is
- 5:49Speaker 5: like even in regards to our friends, you know, we
- 5:51Speaker 5: would say he would say, you know, what is what
- 5:53Speaker 5: is the man doing? Like if he has a business
- 5:56Speaker 5: and you have your you know, you have your own
- 5:59Speaker 5: thing as a wife, you work at a corporate job
- 6:01Speaker 5: or whatever. You have to make sure that if your
- 6:04Speaker 5: husband has something that he's doing that as his wife,
- 6:07Speaker 5: you're helping in some way some fashion, or you're using
- 6:13Speaker 5: your expertise to make certain things administrated, something something that
- 6:18Speaker 5: says that we are working in partnership. So I can
- 6:22Speaker 5: use us as an example. Oh yeah, right, getting away
- 6:27Speaker 5: of what he's doing. So you know, I knew that
- 6:29Speaker 5: I could marry him because I saw what his goals
- 6:32Speaker 5: and his values were on paper. I was looking over
- 6:34Speaker 5: his shoulder, he was looking at his goals and his values,
- 6:37Speaker 5: and in that moment, I saw that some of the
- 6:39Speaker 5: same things that he wanted in life were some of
- 6:42Speaker 5: the exact same things that I wanted in life.
- 6:44Speaker 6: It wasn't predicated on him.
- 6:46Speaker 5: It was predicated on what I knew my assignment was
- 6:49Speaker 5: and what I knew my purpose was, and he I
- 6:52Speaker 5: would not lose myself by marrying him. I was going
- 6:55Speaker 5: to ten times myself because we had the same interest
- 6:58Speaker 5: and have the same desire and basically understood our assignments
- 7:03Speaker 5: individually so that we could come together and to see
- 7:05Speaker 5: where we could fit in so that we could move
- 7:08Speaker 5: it faster. So it's like, with all of that being said,
- 7:12Speaker 5: you just have to know you have to know yourself first,
- 7:16Speaker 5: and then you can't It's not enough to just hook
- 7:18Speaker 5: up with somebody for the sake of hooking up. But
- 7:21Speaker 5: what is it that we are both called to do
- 7:24Speaker 5: that we feel that we can do it together.
- 7:27Speaker 4: I'll take it another step and pivot.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Also that we are both first borns with both oldest grandchildren.
- 7:34Speaker 3: About what ten years into our marriage, we came to
- 7:36Speaker 3: a point where we're pretty we're pretty self sufficient, we're
- 7:39Speaker 3: pretty strong, we know how to do a lot of
- 7:42Speaker 3: the same and similar things. We have the same interest
- 7:45Speaker 3: and we had to come to the realization that in
- 7:47Speaker 3: our marriage that we weren't interdependent on each other and
- 7:53Speaker 3: enough we were like we needed to find a space
- 7:56Speaker 3: where we could need each other and become vulnerable and
- 8:01Speaker 3: create space for the other person to help.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I could cook, you could cook, I could clean. You
- 8:05Speaker 4: could clean. I could wash my clothes you could wash
- 8:07Speaker 4: your clothes, We could do it ourselves.
- 8:09Speaker 3: So how do we create space where we need each
- 8:11Speaker 3: other so we're not just roommates, so we're not just
- 8:14Speaker 3: living and here it is. We're an autopilot because we
- 8:18Speaker 3: know what it is. And so we had to have
- 8:20Speaker 3: this vulnerable conversation where we created room and space for
- 8:25Speaker 3: the other person to be involved in our lives so
- 8:29Speaker 3: that we could need each other in a healthy way,
- 8:32Speaker 3: not in a needy way, but in a healthy way
- 8:35Speaker 3: where where I could desire support. And then early on
- 8:41Speaker 3: in our marriage, I think because I came to the
- 8:44Speaker 3: marriage which we you know, while the two were becoming one,
- 8:49Speaker 3: we both came to the marriage with such a such
- 8:51Speaker 3: an ecosystem of how we do things that you know,
- 8:55Speaker 3: my wife always had a desire to help and to
- 8:58Speaker 3: support me. She didn't always know how to help and
- 9:01Speaker 3: support me, so I had to show her how to do.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So there's times in our marriage where I've been frustrated,
- 9:06Speaker 3: like feeling like I was carrying it all or doing
- 9:09Speaker 3: it all and.
- 9:11Speaker 4: She wasn't helping me. And she was like, well, what
- 9:13Speaker 4: does that look like?
- 9:14Speaker 5: Like?
- 9:14Speaker 4: How do I support you in this space?
- 9:16Speaker 3: You got this person for this, you got this for this,
- 9:18Speaker 3: this person do that, that person do that.
- 9:20Speaker 4: I don't know where to get in at And I'm like,
- 9:22Speaker 4: you know what, that's fair.
- 9:23Speaker 3: You know I got a whole staff, I got a
- 9:24Speaker 3: whole violence, I got all these people around me. So
- 9:27Speaker 3: how do I now create space and tell you what's
- 9:30Speaker 3: important for me? What?
- 9:32Speaker 4: How do you want to help? And what can I delegate?
- 9:35Speaker 4: And where do you want to jump in?
- 9:36Speaker 3: So it's just a lot of nuances, and over all
- 9:39Speaker 3: the phases of our marriage, we've had multiple conversations about
- 9:43Speaker 3: both helping one another, allowing the other person to help,
- 9:46Speaker 3: and then figuring out what support looks like.
- 9:48Speaker 4: And I think people need to have those conversations.
- 9:51Speaker 6: That's pretty good allowing allowing.
- 9:53Speaker 4: That people don't want to allow you to help you, because.
- 9:57Speaker 7: Then I need you exactly because wrong.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Then I created a space where now.
- 10:03Speaker 7: I got to figure out how to do it. If
- 10:04Speaker 7: you don't just don't work right. So people don't make
- 10:07Speaker 7: they don't make that kind of space for their spouse
- 10:11Speaker 7: where you could cripple me. But that's what you that's
- 10:14Speaker 7: what it is.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Really Being in love is like, man, I'd have built
- 10:17Speaker 3: my life so around you that the two become one
- 10:20Speaker 3: that if this rip apart, you're gonna take a part
- 10:23Speaker 3: of me with you no matter where you go. A
- 10:25Speaker 3: lot of people, a lot of people aren't married. They're
- 10:29Speaker 3: not married to the point where if you take if
- 10:33Speaker 3: you take yourself and I take myself, you take a
- 10:36Speaker 3: part of me with you.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Relationship Talk Thursday. Here's the power couple.
- 10:44Speaker 5: And what I have seen over the years is your
- 10:47Speaker 5: prayer life as a woman. Your prayer life, to me,
- 10:51Speaker 5: dictates the temperament of your household, the profit, the prophetic
- 10:56Speaker 5: voice for your house, for your children though the individuals
- 11:01Speaker 5: that God has assigned to your life, like laboring and
- 11:05Speaker 5: praying for them is just a major, major gift. And
- 11:11Speaker 5: when I feel when things are just going haywire in
- 11:15Speaker 5: your household as a woman, I think you have to
- 11:19Speaker 5: check your prayer life. You'll realize that I'm not praying
- 11:22Speaker 5: as much and I'm not taking I'm not taking those
- 11:25Speaker 5: things to God. I'm stressed out because I'm trying to
- 11:28Speaker 5: carry them. I'm trying to be the little g in
- 11:30Speaker 5: the whole household versus giving them to God. Because as
- 11:34Speaker 5: a woman, you have a discernment, you have you can
- 11:39Speaker 5: look at things that are not there, but you can
- 11:41Speaker 5: see it in certain people and certain things.
- 11:44Speaker 6: In certain situations.
- 11:45Speaker 5: God shows you stuff before it happens, and instead of
- 11:48Speaker 5: always having to talk about it, sometimes that's just what
- 11:51Speaker 5: you need to rap in prayer. So, I mean, I
- 11:53Speaker 5: know all of the other things are great and everything
- 11:56Speaker 5: like that, but I would have to say the one
- 11:58Speaker 5: thing that I can definitely say that woman brings to
- 12:00Speaker 5: the table as a wife and as a mother is
- 12:03Speaker 5: her prayer life. If she has one, and if you
- 12:06Speaker 5: don't have one, you need to get one, because I
- 12:09Speaker 5: just you know, I might.
- 12:10Speaker 6: Be a little biased about that.
- 12:12Speaker 5: I love being a woman, and I believe God, not
- 12:15Speaker 5: that he don't hear man's prayer. I don't.
- 12:17Speaker 6: I'm not saying that.
- 12:18Speaker 2: But if you look, he hears He exactly hears. He
- 12:23Speaker 2: hears a woman's prayer differently because she was made out
- 12:27Speaker 2: of man.
- 12:27Speaker 6: She was the internal part of man.
- 12:30Speaker 2: So she recorrect, she reconnects herself back to God as
- 12:34Speaker 2: as the original form when she gets in prayer.
- 12:38Speaker 5: That's her communion with God. A man, everything is outside
- 12:42Speaker 5: of him. That brings production and that brings life. Everything
- 12:45Speaker 5: aside of a woman is internal. And so when you yes,
- 12:48Speaker 5: so She's entering into a space and a place with
- 12:51Speaker 5: God that a man can go to, but it might
- 12:54Speaker 5: take him a little longer to get there. She instantly
- 12:56Speaker 5: can just get there because she already is internal with God,
- 13:02Speaker 5: the Lord.
- 13:03Speaker 1: It's relationship talk Thursday. I'm so yill with the Glenn's
- 13:06Speaker 1: passage of own and Erica Glenn, a man can't go
- 13:10Speaker 1: on alone.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Your presence unlocks his potential. Let's talk about prayer. I
- 13:14Speaker 2: know past Erica was talking about it. You know, the
- 13:17Speaker 2: power of a woman's intercession in marriage, but praying together,
- 13:22Speaker 2: as we're talking about, you know, a man can't do
- 13:23Speaker 2: it a loan, but but together, the power of prayer.
- 13:27Speaker 2: What role does that play in a marriage? To praying together?
- 13:31Speaker 2: I know you have your separate time.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Yeah, if any two should touch and agree, you don't.
- 13:35Speaker 3: I mean, if you and your wife have a prayer life,
- 13:38Speaker 3: you can you can do anything. If any too should
- 13:41Speaker 3: touch and agree as touching anything, it shall be established.
- 13:45Speaker 3: So if you two need anything, all you have to
- 13:49Speaker 3: do is touch and agree with each other. If no
- 13:51Speaker 3: one else agrees with you in the entire work, God
- 13:54Speaker 3: made a promise that if y'all agree, the whole world
- 13:57Speaker 3: has to respond to your agreement. That's the power of agreement,
- 14:00Speaker 3: that's the power of alignment, that's the power of intercession.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Together. Just touch and agreed.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Just be in enough alignment with your spouse that you
- 14:08Speaker 3: can that you can decide a thing and decree a
- 14:11Speaker 3: thing and agree in prayer, and God himself will do
- 14:14Speaker 3: it anything for you.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I think.
- 14:17Speaker 5: I think another the flip side of this is that
- 14:22Speaker 5: when you as a woman, we talked about power, dominion
- 14:25Speaker 5: and all of those things. If you're having a conversation
- 14:28Speaker 5: with your husband and you don't agree with him, y'all
- 14:32Speaker 5: can talk it out and all that other kind of stuff.
- 14:35Speaker 5: And you go into this place and you have this
- 14:37Speaker 5: conversation or whatever, but you don't agree with him. When
- 14:41Speaker 5: you get on the same page with him.
- 14:44Speaker 2: You have stated this is why I feel this way,
- 14:46Speaker 2: this is whatever, whatever. But when we walk out of
- 14:48Speaker 2: this room, we are standing in the power of agreement.
- 14:51Speaker 2: There are things that God is going to do for
- 14:54Speaker 2: that man and for your relationship because you agreed.
- 14:57Speaker 4: That's right.
- 14:58Speaker 5: And I think people just marriages, just do not realize
- 15:03Speaker 5: that when you make a decision, When you make a
- 15:06Speaker 5: decision and you're on the same page, you have invited
- 15:10Speaker 5: God to do the supernatural.
- 15:12Speaker 3: A lot of problems will go away if people just
- 15:13Speaker 3: pray together. Don't have to be loan, don't have to
- 15:16Speaker 3: be deep and agree, just pray.
- 15:19Speaker 4: But yes, that's my definition of prayer.
- 15:21Speaker 6: You can't you can't pray if y'all don't agree.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 3: So, and that's why people don't pray, because if there's
- 15:27Speaker 3: disagreement happening, then this unity discord is not going to
- 15:32Speaker 3: create any opportunity for you to walk in agreement. Agreement
- 15:36Speaker 3: is an accelerant, so people can just if people a
- 15:40Speaker 3: lot of problems will go away and people just learn
- 15:42Speaker 3: to pray together.
- 15:43Speaker 2: It's been a great conversation on this relationship truck Thursday
- 15:46Speaker 2: with pastors Damone and Erica Glenn. Any thoughts on our
- 15:49Speaker 2: topic today. A man can't do it alone. Your presence
- 15:53Speaker 2: unlocks his potential. Any thoughts, Maybe y'all want to break
- 15:56Speaker 2: this prayer noise and is stick up in there right now?
- 15:58Speaker 3: It's just some guys out here way you know, for nothing.
- 16:01Speaker 3: You know, you dating the girl, you love her, You
- 16:03Speaker 3: see her, she got the good, she did. What it is,
- 16:05Speaker 3: just make a decision, man, pick the woman of God.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Make the choice and build with her. There are some
- 16:10Speaker 3: things God is withholding from you until you if it's
- 16:15Speaker 3: your desire to be married, until you make a decision
- 16:17Speaker 3: to be married. So I just pray that God give
- 16:19Speaker 3: you the courage to make the decision that you know
- 16:22Speaker 3: you need to make and quit avoiding, and that God
- 16:25Speaker 3: gives you peace in your decision making, and if she's
- 16:28Speaker 3: not the one, that you don't waste your time or hers,
- 16:31Speaker 3: and that He gives you the courage to even walk
- 16:33Speaker 3: away from that. But there's some decisions to be made.
- 16:36Speaker 3: That's me is on the other side, the decision that
- 16:38Speaker 3: you've been avoiding. So I just pray that you have
- 16:41Speaker 3: what it takes to do what you need
- 16:42Speaker 2: To do, all right, don't forget To check out the podcast,
