- 0:00Speaker 1: What up you guys. It's your girl Seventh Street, and
- 0:02Speaker 1: I am here with my girl Colleen, and this is
- 0:05Speaker 1: eating while broke. So today I'm like cook y'all up
- 0:09Speaker 1: with a little a little hood classic that I ate
- 0:11Speaker 1: growing up. You know, when money get funny, sometimes you
- 0:14Speaker 1: can never go wrong with a classic Bologny egg and
- 0:17Speaker 1: cheese sandwich. But it gotta be fried to fried Bologni
- 0:19Speaker 1: egg and cheese. Said, Okay, don you fry the bologna. Yes,
- 0:24Speaker 1: we're gonna find some bologne, we too. Yeah, I didn't
- 0:27Speaker 1: know if these guys we were just gonna cook the
- 0:29Speaker 1: egg and melt the cheese on it. I didn't know.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I've never actually had a bolognaian egg sandwich. Really. Yes, okay,
- 0:37Speaker 1: well listen, I'm gonna put you on on So I
- 0:38Speaker 1: like to start makes just a little warm, Yes, okay,
- 0:42Speaker 1: I like to start with the bologney right because the
- 0:46Speaker 1: bologne is gonna take the longest to cook. You feel me,
- 0:49Speaker 1: so one piece for you want piece of me? I
- 0:51Speaker 1: won't be honest, though, I don't eat a lot of
- 0:53Speaker 1: bologna these days. I like to keep it a little clean.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I eat real clean now, but every now and then
- 0:59Speaker 1: it's just, you know, I just be craving the things
- 1:01Speaker 1: that I ain't growing up, you know what I mean.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And don't get it twisted, because I will go home
- 1:06Speaker 1: to this day right now, and if it's four o'clock
- 1:08Speaker 1: in the morning and me and my family, my mom,
- 1:10Speaker 1: my dad, my brother, we're just up chilling and we
- 1:12Speaker 1: just have one of those urges we we might make
- 1:15Speaker 1: a little belonging. Friday was for real. Wow. So how
- 1:19Speaker 1: does someone from Haynes, Florida, Haines City, Haines City, Florida,
- 1:23Speaker 1: which I did look up. It was too small town,
- 1:26Speaker 1: very small town. How does someone go from a small
- 1:31Speaker 1: town to you know, writing on Chris Brown's records, Kelly Rowland,
- 1:36Speaker 1: Alicia Keye, Like how and you're banging out hits, but
- 1:40Speaker 1: how do you go from you know, the small town
- 1:43Speaker 1: to man? I mean, um, you know what I sang
- 1:46Speaker 1: everywhere growing up? I was saying at weddings, funerals by
- 1:49Speaker 1: Mrs Talent, shows, malls like anywhere that I could, and um,
- 1:54Speaker 1: you know, throughout the years, singing kind of led me
- 1:56Speaker 1: into different spaces and led me into girl groups, would
- 1:59Speaker 1: let me into meeting Chris Brown, which led me into
- 2:01Speaker 1: writing for him, which you know, led him to me
- 2:04Speaker 1: being able to write for other artists because of what
- 2:06Speaker 1: I was able to do with him. So, um, it
- 2:08Speaker 1: was just a it's just a crazy it's a crazy journey,
- 2:12Speaker 1: but I wouldn't trade it for the world. Was he
- 2:14Speaker 1: the first person that you wrote for? He was my
- 2:17Speaker 1: first placement. My first placement was a song called Yet
- 2:20Speaker 1: three Times and um, yeah, it was my my baby.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Was my first time that I was like left in
- 2:26Speaker 1: a studio to to finish something up and I was
- 2:29Speaker 1: nervous as hell. Um, but it was it was a
- 2:33Speaker 1: good lesson for me because it was like, all right,
- 2:35Speaker 1: but write the hell out of his verse or you
- 2:37Speaker 1: know so, but you were now you were an artist, yes,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and then of course you're a songwriter. But how when
- 2:46Speaker 1: it came to Krish Brown, he saw so he sees you,
- 2:48Speaker 1: He's like, you're an amazing talent, come right for me?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Or was it like he saw that you wrote a
- 2:53Speaker 1: really good song. I literally we were working at the
- 2:56Speaker 1: same studio with him. I was in a group at
- 2:57Speaker 1: the time, and we were working at the same studio
- 3:00Speaker 1: off the hall and I saw him in the hallway
- 3:01Speaker 1: and I was like, hey, Chris, you know I heard
- 3:05Speaker 1: it was about to go, right, can I come and
- 3:07Speaker 1: write with you guys? And honestly, I never had a
- 3:09Speaker 1: righting placement. I never wrote had any placement. But I
- 3:12Speaker 1: don't know. I just feel like that was God's saying, Okay,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you should go ask him if you can write. Now.
- 3:16Speaker 1: That was awesome. That's awesome that you didn't. Ye, man, listen,
- 3:20Speaker 1: God is good. You gotta you weren't scared to do it,
- 3:22Speaker 1: or you were just like mama artists were in the
- 3:24Speaker 1: same place. It's you know what, at that point in
- 3:27Speaker 1: my career, you just learned that when you have the
- 3:30Speaker 1: urge and the feeling and the inkling to do something,
- 3:33Speaker 1: you probably should act on it at the moment. You know.
- 3:36Speaker 1: You know, I don't like to have wasted opportunities, you
- 3:38Speaker 1: know what I mean, And so I just I looked
- 3:40Speaker 1: at it as an opportunity. Oh girl, we over here.
- 3:43Speaker 1: It's frying, girl crying, it's frying and frying. Yeah. See,
- 3:47Speaker 1: I like for it to get a little burnt and
- 3:49Speaker 1: little crispy, you know, little burn, little crispy. Someone let
- 3:53Speaker 1: those you know, you won't let them sizzle a little bit? Yes,
- 3:57Speaker 1: So you went from girl group to us independent just
- 4:04Speaker 1: solo artists. And how was that transition? Did you lose
- 4:08Speaker 1: friends along the way? You know? What that that transition,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I will say, um, it was two folds. Um. In
- 4:16Speaker 1: terms of me being a songwriter, it was so beautiful.
- 4:19Speaker 1: It was amazing, you know what I mean, because I
- 4:21Speaker 1: got to be around a lot of amazing other songwriters
- 4:24Speaker 1: and um, you know, like I said, I didn't have
- 4:26Speaker 1: any place, but so I was really learning, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 1: and you know, Chris's Fame album and chris Is Fortune album.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I wrote seven songs with them on Fame, with seven
- 4:34Speaker 1: songs with him on Fortune, and I was just surrounded
- 4:36Speaker 1: by the most amazing creatives, Chris obviously being one of himself,
- 4:41Speaker 1: but just um, just so he writes with you guys. Yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 1: he's an amazing song absolutely an amazing songwriter. So, um,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I learned a lot. And so for my songwriting, it
- 4:50Speaker 1: was amazing. In terms of um, my me being an artist.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You know, I've been in girl groups pretty much all
- 4:56Speaker 1: my life. So that was a little bit of a
- 4:58Speaker 1: transition and kind of like okay, now you you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: you're on your own, you're solo. What do you want
- 5:04Speaker 1: to sing about? What do you want to write about,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and um, you know it was the beginning of me
- 5:09Speaker 1: figuring out who I am in that sense, you know, yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 1: yeah that yeah. So when you were younger, did you
- 5:15Speaker 1: know you wanted to be a songwriter or it just
- 5:18Speaker 1: started to develop as your artistry grew, you know what
- 5:22Speaker 1: being Um, I always wanted to be a singer. I
- 5:25Speaker 1: did not realize the um, the value of being a songwriter.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And I didn't realize how therapeutic it was. Like songwriting
- 5:34Speaker 1: it's so therapeutic, even if I'm not writing for myself
- 5:36Speaker 1: and I'm writing for other people. It's like, let me
- 5:39Speaker 1: get these ideas and these emotions of offer me child.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So um, you know, when I was younger, I didn't
- 5:44Speaker 1: realize it. I just wanted to be a singer and
- 5:46Speaker 1: I wanted to day Hanson. Um. You know, when songwriting
- 5:49Speaker 1: came along, I started to realize there were so many
- 5:52Speaker 1: more benefits for one therapeutic for two. Um, obviously the
- 5:56Speaker 1: money is really great a lot more it pays really
- 5:59Speaker 1: really be great, and it pays you for a very
- 6:01Speaker 1: long time. And so um yeah, so it just kind
- 6:05Speaker 1: of came my baby too. Speaking of pay if you
- 6:07Speaker 1: don't mind for us, that really We really don't know
- 6:11Speaker 1: how the financials work because I know all the artists listening.
- 6:15Speaker 1: They you know, they want to be mainstream. They want
- 6:17Speaker 1: to be the seven mainstream. They're not thinking about the
- 6:20Speaker 1: artistry and the and the and songwriting and the publishing.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Can you explain kind of how that process works. First,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I'm about to smother me some some smothering me some
- 6:30Speaker 1: mayonnaise when its bread. Do you like mayonnaise? I love
- 6:33Speaker 1: may Okay, Mom, I got you. I'm glad you didn't
- 6:35Speaker 1: say miracle with I case. I'm not only like miracle WITHO.
- 6:41Speaker 1: And like potato salad, Okay, my grandma, my grandma Salaly
- 6:45Speaker 1: makes like the best potato salad. My grandma laws and
- 6:48Speaker 1: my grandma will. We do not get mad at me
- 6:50Speaker 1: because y'all potato salad is good too. Okay. You have
- 6:53Speaker 1: other things that there's like top tier. Um, but yeah,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I love I love mayle, and do not like miracle whippop. Now,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I will say this though I for years was never
- 7:04Speaker 1: a big mustard fan. Really they just kept up. But
- 7:08Speaker 1: you know, the older you get, the more and I've
- 7:11Speaker 1: had enough street callie dogs to know that throw all
- 7:15Speaker 1: the condiments on. There are doing. The more the merrier
- 7:19Speaker 1: you feel me like, put everything on my I need
- 7:22Speaker 1: everything hallapenos like there for all of it. I need
- 7:26Speaker 1: to look at my man too. So when did you
- 7:29Speaker 1: move to l A. I moved to l A two
- 7:33Speaker 1: thousand and two, So this is right when you're working
- 7:37Speaker 1: with Chris, right when you're released. No, no, no, this
- 7:40Speaker 1: was early. This was in I was in a group.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Then I was in a group called two and two
- 7:46Speaker 1: was a group called T T four, And then a
- 7:48Speaker 1: little bit after that, probably like maybe like five years
- 7:53Speaker 1: after that, there was my other group, Rich Girl, and
- 7:57Speaker 1: that was amazing, and then Chris came a little of
- 8:00Speaker 1: it later. So it's been a little minute l A.
- 8:02Speaker 1: It's kind of like a second home to me, um,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and I just love it because it allows me to
- 8:06Speaker 1: be my most creative self. Most of the most creative
- 8:08Speaker 1: people in the world out here. I love it. Did
- 8:10Speaker 1: you move here everybody yourself? No? I moved here with
- 8:13Speaker 1: my family, my mom, my dad, and my brother, which
- 8:15Speaker 1: also my brother just so happens to um. He produced
- 8:19Speaker 1: the record I'm Gonna Sit This Yes, nice and crispy
- 8:23Speaker 1: my brother. Um my brother actually produced the song on
- 8:27Speaker 1: my recent album is called nasty girl in this speech
- 8:30Speaker 1: from Via and you know, so it's like it's that
- 8:33Speaker 1: was a really full circle moment for me because, like
- 8:37Speaker 1: I said, I moved out here, moved out here with
- 8:40Speaker 1: my family, so to look up and it some years later,
- 8:44Speaker 1: I'm this is so fat and it's gonna be so
- 8:46Speaker 1: good and fat. I love it so good, fat good,
- 8:51Speaker 1: so so so good and fat. So this is a
- 8:54Speaker 1: family affair. It is my family. Like then my dogs,
- 8:58Speaker 1: like I mean, it's my like my road dogs, say,
- 9:00Speaker 1: called me down for a very long time. So from
- 9:02Speaker 1: the beginning, you were like I wanted to do singing,
- 9:05Speaker 1: and they said, all right, let's pack up our bags,
- 9:07Speaker 1: let's support, let's put her in every and everything we
- 9:11Speaker 1: need to be in. And you know, my brother played
- 9:14Speaker 1: instruments from a very young gay so he's very musical too.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And yeah, I was in a girl group when I
- 9:20Speaker 1: was fifteen years old, and me and my mother we
- 9:22Speaker 1: moved to California first, my brother and my uh and
- 9:25Speaker 1: my dad came like a year after that, and we
- 9:29Speaker 1: just I worked in that group until you know, for
- 9:32Speaker 1: a year or so, and then the group disbanded after
- 9:35Speaker 1: a year, and um, my family and I we stayed
- 9:38Speaker 1: in California for maybe like four more years, five more years,
- 9:42Speaker 1: uh huh. And then and then we moved back to Florida.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And when I moved back to Florida, that's when I
- 9:47Speaker 1: started to UM. I started to dabble in writing a
- 9:50Speaker 1: lot more. I was working with the Runners, and you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I've just gotten uh, you know, just kind of diving
- 9:56Speaker 1: into writing a lot. I like a lot of pepper.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Two by the way, Okay, I like that. I'm trying it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: However you eat it, I'm gonna try it, and I'm
- 10:03Speaker 1: gonna try to rate it too. Yes, I love a
- 10:05Speaker 1: lot of pepper. So go back to the songwriting. I
- 10:09Speaker 1: hate to read. Just to kind of educate everybody. How
- 10:12Speaker 1: does the process work? Do does the artists like say,
- 10:16Speaker 1: at Licia Keys, Does she comes to you and say, hey,
- 10:18Speaker 1: I'm feeling blue today, you write a song about me
- 10:21Speaker 1: feeling blue? Or do you just come over to her
- 10:23Speaker 1: house and hang out with her and swiss? No? Sometimes
- 10:26Speaker 1: sometimes it works like that. Sometimes I like to um,
- 10:30Speaker 1: I like to know what people are going through in
- 10:31Speaker 1: their lives before I write songs about them, You know
- 10:34Speaker 1: what I mean? UM. I think that's how how you
- 10:37Speaker 1: get the best performance. That's how people better, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 1: best connect to the records. You know, consumers are smart
- 10:44Speaker 1: and they don't give them enough credit, you know what
- 10:46Speaker 1: I mean. For being smart, they can feel when things
- 10:49Speaker 1: are not authentic, and you know, so I like to
- 10:53Speaker 1: know what Like, for example, if I were writing a
- 10:55Speaker 1: song about you, I would sit here and ask you,
- 10:57Speaker 1: are you in love? Are you? Are you? Are you
- 11:00Speaker 1: you know? Are you angry at someone? How do you
- 11:02Speaker 1: feel about yourself? You know what I mean? What? Um?
- 11:05Speaker 1: What are your dreams? What are your goals? What are
- 11:07Speaker 1: your insecurities? What are the things that you think make
- 11:10Speaker 1: you bomb? Like? I want to know all of those things. So, um,
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's a lot of the process. Well, that's a part
- 11:17Speaker 1: of the process because you also have other times where like,
- 11:20Speaker 1: for example, right now, I just put out my album
- 11:23Speaker 1: Drunken Word, so with thoughts right and I have UM.
- 11:29Speaker 1: When I finished my projects, I usually have a lot
- 11:32Speaker 1: of songs left over. So what I like to do
- 11:35Speaker 1: is I like to shift those songs out to whatever
- 11:38Speaker 1: artists at Nah, It's like whatever artist is looking because
- 11:42Speaker 1: at this point I've got my creative juices off within
- 11:46Speaker 1: my project, you know what I mean. So Um, I don't.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't like to let records
- 11:51Speaker 1: just sit lay dormant on my you know, on my
- 11:53Speaker 1: hard drive. I want you know that the ideas came
- 11:57Speaker 1: to me because somebody needs to hear them, so they
- 12:00Speaker 1: don't do any good by just sitting on my laptop.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So I sell them that way too. How do you
- 12:04Speaker 1: select the ones that stay and the ones that go?
- 12:07Speaker 1: Now that that's the question I have been trying to
- 12:09Speaker 1: answer for a very long time. You just know when
- 12:12Speaker 1: you know, when you know what your body work is
- 12:15Speaker 1: supposed to feel like. And it's one of those things
- 12:17Speaker 1: no one can really tell you when that is, which
- 12:20Speaker 1: is like, you know, for me, it's been a for
- 12:22Speaker 1: year process, you know what I mean, you know, in
- 12:25Speaker 1: between projects. And I wouldn't trade that for the world.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I don't apologize for it. I think it was very
- 12:30Speaker 1: necessary and therapeutic, um in a lot of different ways.
- 12:34Speaker 1: But yeah, you just know when you know when your
- 12:37Speaker 1: project is done. You know, since you've been in the industry,
- 12:41Speaker 1: have you had any hiccups? Um? I mean I think
- 12:45Speaker 1: that kind of just comes along with it. Every artist
- 12:47Speaker 1: has their story, you know, Um, every artist has been uh,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you know, in situations that you thought we're gonna go
- 12:55Speaker 1: well and then ended up taking a left turn and
- 12:57Speaker 1: then you have to pivot from there. But I think
- 12:59Speaker 1: that that is that's just the part of it, and
- 13:02Speaker 1: that's the thing that makes us. Uh, that's how you learn,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It makes you resilient. It
- 13:09Speaker 1: you know, puts more tools on your tool bell. You
- 13:11Speaker 1: learn how to you know, shake and move and and
- 13:14Speaker 1: and that whole type of things. So experiences, yeah, I
- 13:17Speaker 1: mean I've been in groups and groups have lost record
- 13:19Speaker 1: deals I have. It's just been a lot of different things,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know. I've had songs that I love, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 1: get you know, look up and and the beats are
- 13:29Speaker 1: gone because somebody's It's a lot of different little things
- 13:31Speaker 1: I've had. Um, I've had people like within our industry
- 13:35Speaker 1: like you know, try to stop certain you know, deals
- 13:39Speaker 1: and things like that. So have I experienced it. I've
- 13:42Speaker 1: experienced it all. But UM, at the end of the day,
- 13:46Speaker 1: all it does is make me stronger. All it does
- 13:49Speaker 1: is um, all it does is at you know, it
- 13:51Speaker 1: just makes me more resilient. It just puts an even
- 13:53Speaker 1: bigger battery in my back, you know, does it like
- 13:58Speaker 1: what pulls you out of it is your mom um
- 14:00Speaker 1: coaching you through. Are you crying or well? What pulls
- 14:03Speaker 1: me out of it is that I actually love what
- 14:05Speaker 1: I do. So I think that it's it's like a
- 14:08Speaker 1: little ludicrous um for you know, for people to there's
- 14:13Speaker 1: nothing to put it this. There's nothing that's ever gonna happen.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It's going to ever make me stop doing music. You
- 14:18Speaker 1: feel me like literally nothing. And I never been a
- 14:22Speaker 1: time where you've doubted it. It's never been a time
- 14:25Speaker 1: that I've doubted my purpose. There have been times where
- 14:28Speaker 1: I've doubted, um, how things were going to get from
- 14:32Speaker 1: one space to another, but I never doubted Can you
- 14:35Speaker 1: give me an example of that, um, Well, in between deals,
- 14:39Speaker 1: in between deals, in between albums, when you're when you're
- 14:41Speaker 1: trying to creatively figure out where you're gonna go next,
- 14:45Speaker 1: What is it gonna be next? What is your music
- 14:46Speaker 1: gonna sound like next? You know what? What label are
- 14:49Speaker 1: you gonna be? A who's gonna understand your your art?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Those people don't realize that the transitional periods in between
- 14:56Speaker 1: when we give you guys one project to the next,
- 14:59Speaker 1: that's a lot that goes on there. So you really
- 15:02Speaker 1: have to um, you kind of and there you can't
- 15:05Speaker 1: get around it. You just have to go through it,
- 15:09Speaker 1: you know. So it's um. It's one of those things
- 15:12Speaker 1: that I'm I'm so appreciative for it. I really really,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I really truly am. I really truly am Your parents
- 15:24Speaker 1: make the adjustment from Florida, small town, small city in
- 15:28Speaker 1: Florida to l A was a big investment. I had
- 15:31Speaker 1: a match absolutely. So did you feel any type of
- 15:34Speaker 1: responsibility like to pay back or do you feel pressure
- 15:36Speaker 1: where they just like, no, my parents have never made
- 15:39Speaker 1: me feel like that. They really honestly have it until
- 15:42Speaker 1: this day. Like they are my writers. Like they go
- 15:46Speaker 1: so hard. Anybody know me, they know they go so hard.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So UM, any pressure to to know, not no pressure.
- 15:52Speaker 1: That's family. That's what you do for family, you know
- 15:55Speaker 1: what I mean. But I love um. You know in
- 15:57Speaker 1: every way that I can for the rest of my life.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I tend on repaying it and vote in different ways,
- 16:04Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But it comes from a
- 16:05Speaker 1: place of genuine love and not like pressure. Absolutely, I
- 16:09Speaker 1: love that. I love that. That's prettiful. It's a blessing.
- 16:14Speaker 1: So we're almost halfway through your meal. I'm excited to
- 16:17Speaker 1: eat it. I'm hungry. It smells good. I've never had
- 16:21Speaker 1: a fried bologny egg sandwich, so I'm looking forward to this. Girl,
- 16:27Speaker 1: I got you. Okay, So your favorite song on your
- 16:31Speaker 1: album at the moment, My favorite song is a song
- 16:34Speaker 1: called Fallback. So fallback? When you were writing this record,
- 16:38Speaker 1: wrote it by yourself or with writers? I wrote it
- 16:41Speaker 1: by myself. So what were you going through when I
- 16:44Speaker 1: wrote Fallback? I was falling out of a situation with
- 16:49Speaker 1: someone and someone that I cared about very deeply. But
- 16:53Speaker 1: um really started to realize that we were a lot
- 16:57Speaker 1: more similar than I thought, and maybe not in in
- 17:01Speaker 1: a lot of great ways, but also and not in
- 17:03Speaker 1: not you know, not so good ways as well. Um,
- 17:07Speaker 1: you know, we kind of live similar lifestyles and uh,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know, sometimes that can clash a little bit because
- 17:14Speaker 1: people are um a little bit that they'll feel something
- 17:17Speaker 1: but be a little bit hesitant to actually just, you
- 17:20Speaker 1: know what, just dive all the way into it. And
- 17:22Speaker 1: so fallback is about, um, that space where you know
- 17:27Speaker 1: that it could it could move forward, but for you
- 17:30Speaker 1: know what, it's a little you know, a fallback. I
- 17:33Speaker 1: won't hold that against you, because love is scary. Yeah. Yeah,
- 17:36Speaker 1: So that's what Fallback is about. You've been in love
- 17:38Speaker 1: multiple times, and I mean I think, you know, I've
- 17:42Speaker 1: been in different versions of love, you know what I mean?
- 17:45Speaker 1: I like that, Yeah, because it's like I think I'm
- 17:47Speaker 1: still you know, I think you never truly have this
- 17:50Speaker 1: whole idea of what love is. I think that as
- 17:54Speaker 1: I get older, I add a little bit more love
- 17:56Speaker 1: knowledge onto my love to belt. So you know, I've
- 17:59Speaker 1: been in love a few times. Your parents have been
- 18:01Speaker 1: together a long time, Yes, they have. Feel like they're
- 18:03Speaker 1: the bar. Um. I don't think there is a bar
- 18:07Speaker 1: when it comes to to to love and relationships. I
- 18:11Speaker 1: think it's a very you know, um, you know, what's
- 18:15Speaker 1: the word I'm looking for. It's a very singular thing.
- 18:18Speaker 1: It's a very uh uh, you know, case by case thing,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know, a relationship by relationship thing. Every relationship has
- 18:25Speaker 1: its own rules and ways and tribes and and whatever
- 18:29Speaker 1: that is. It's like that's their business and that's what
- 18:32Speaker 1: works for them, and that's what works for them, and
- 18:34Speaker 1: that's what works for them. So you know, you find
- 18:36Speaker 1: what works for you. Yeah, yeah, definitely. So what are
- 18:40Speaker 1: your expectations for this next record? Like what would you
- 18:43Speaker 1: like to see happen? I would like to see all
- 18:48Speaker 1: of my fans um to just I want them to
- 18:53Speaker 1: get to a place where this song begins to speak
- 18:56Speaker 1: for them, and the record of the product we're goin
- 18:59Speaker 1: to speak for them. That's all I really want. I
- 19:01Speaker 1: want them to feel like they I want them to
- 19:05Speaker 1: feel seen and heard and understood. And if they don't
- 19:10Speaker 1: have the words to express themselves, I want them to
- 19:12Speaker 1: be able to put in the product to say this
- 19:15Speaker 1: is exactly how I feel, because I think that that's
- 19:17Speaker 1: what music is about. It's about helping people, um, communicate
- 19:22Speaker 1: and express themselves. You san it almost time, Yeah, exactly.
- 19:27Speaker 1: We have a nice shop growing up. Who were your
- 19:32Speaker 1: inspirations growing up? My inspirations were Um, Whitney Houston, right, Carrie? Um?
- 19:44Speaker 1: Who else? Did I love? Brandy? Monica? And you wrote
- 19:47Speaker 1: for all of them? Well, not all of them. You
- 19:49Speaker 1: wrote for Brandy. You wrote for Brandy And that was
- 19:51Speaker 1: like a game come true for me. Were you nervous
- 19:55Speaker 1: at all? Or you get to actually work with them
- 19:58Speaker 1: or is it you send it in? No, I get
- 20:00Speaker 1: to actually work with them, and uh it was I
- 20:05Speaker 1: lost my mind when she walked in the studio. I
- 20:07Speaker 1: really did lost my whole line and we wrote I
- 20:10Speaker 1: wrote a song with Chris Um for her call Slower,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and it was just at the first of all, she
- 20:17Speaker 1: killed that record. Just to even hear her sing words
- 20:20Speaker 1: that we had come up with, the melodies that we
- 20:22Speaker 1: had come up with, was like some whole other ship
- 20:25Speaker 1: for me. I lost. I lost my mind. Yeah, that
- 20:27Speaker 1: I lost my mind. And then seeing your name on
- 20:30Speaker 1: her album, seeing my name on a Brandy album because
- 20:32Speaker 1: all my life all I did was read the booklet. Yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I remember those days. I read them all. Remember those
- 20:38Speaker 1: days when the booklet the booklets and you could read
- 20:41Speaker 1: the lyrics. Yes, I would live. Yeah. So it was amazing. Wow.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Did you did you go through the phase of recording
- 20:48Speaker 1: the radio at any point? Recording the radio? You know,
- 20:52Speaker 1: you put the cassette. This was before you know, you
- 20:54Speaker 1: had the cassette. You really couldn't. For nothing, you put
- 20:56Speaker 1: the cassette and you record the radio. You know. I
- 20:59Speaker 1: didn't record the radio. I didn't record the radio. But
- 21:03Speaker 1: but the booklet vibe was definitely thing like, it was
- 21:06Speaker 1: definitely definitely my thing. Well that's good. You weren't stealing music,
- 21:11Speaker 1: little little music beat over here. Sorry, music lover music.
- 21:16Speaker 1: I was music lover on a budget. Okay, listen here
- 21:20Speaker 1: listening bro listen eating on eating broke music and you
- 21:24Speaker 1: have music while broke. Okay, music broke. You know. The
- 21:27Speaker 1: second I had money, I paid for my record store. Man.
- 21:30Speaker 1: You know. Amen, Today I want you to bite in
- 21:32Speaker 1: it for it gets cold. Yes, I want to try this.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Here we go. This looks delicious to look at the layers, crisp.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's pretty good, right, it's good warm, it's a vibe,
- 21:47Speaker 1: it's a whole vibe. It's a classic a fried egg,
- 21:51Speaker 1: bologna and cheese sandwich. And it's really quick and it's
- 21:54Speaker 1: super quick, super duper quick. Okay, and the mustard as
- 22:00Speaker 1: a nice kick, right, and then if you want, like
- 22:02Speaker 1: you put a little lettuce and tomato on there, you know.
- 22:06Speaker 1: But so, what is something that your fans don't know
- 22:10Speaker 1: about you? You're loyal fans, by the way, because I
- 22:13Speaker 1: see them on your and staff and then all the comments.
- 22:16Speaker 1: But my fans, what don't they know about me? Um?
- 22:21Speaker 1: I really want to think about that. Yeah, I think
- 22:24Speaker 1: about it because it would be nice. It would be
- 22:26Speaker 1: nice to watch this episode and say, oh my gosh,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I did not know that about seven. I mean, you
- 22:33Speaker 1: don't have a crush on Chris at all. No. No,
- 22:37Speaker 1: maybe maybe that's something that they would be surprised And no, no,
- 22:41Speaker 1: like it was always just family. Whoever you worked with
- 22:45Speaker 1: that you got star struck. Alicia Keys star struggle. Let
- 22:48Speaker 1: me think, Alicia, Alicia's walked in here. I love Alicia.
- 22:54Speaker 1: I definitely got started when it was Alicia, we are.
- 22:56Speaker 1: The way our session started was on his zoom, like
- 22:59Speaker 1: on a on his zoom at the time. Yeah, and um,
- 23:02Speaker 1: even through a zoom, I was like nervous as ship,
- 23:05Speaker 1: like did you just make the disclaimer? Like look their
- 23:07Speaker 1: Alicia Keys. No, I had to like put on a
- 23:10Speaker 1: good face like yeah, look now I'm good, Like, yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 1: what do you need for the record? You good? And
- 23:13Speaker 1: then when we hung up, then I lost my mind.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Then I lost it. But no, I love me some Alicia.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Did you feel like the day leading up to those
- 23:23Speaker 1: moments where like, say, Alicia Keys, where you're excited Brandy,
- 23:27Speaker 1: did you feel like knowing that was coming up in
- 23:30Speaker 1: the middle of your day, in the beginning of your day,
- 23:31Speaker 1: did you feel like the time takes a lot slower? Um,
- 23:36Speaker 1: do I feel like it was the time was slower. Yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 1: You know, when you're hot, you're anticipating something, Yeah, and
- 23:41Speaker 1: you're like it's taking forever. You know, You're like, why
- 23:44Speaker 1: can't it be two o'clock? Um? Now I get lost
- 23:48Speaker 1: in music when I do it, and I don't even
- 23:50Speaker 1: have I don't even know what time is when I work.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I really don't. I don't. And I'll stay up for
- 23:56Speaker 1: days and just work and work and work. I'll work
- 24:00Speaker 1: each shower, work each showered, work, each shower. I think
- 24:04Speaker 1: there's something to be said when you do something that
- 24:06Speaker 1: you genuinely are passionate about. You know what happens if
- 24:11Speaker 1: someone hasn't found what they're passionate about. What advice would
- 24:14Speaker 1: you give them? Though? Um, For one, I'll say, I'll
- 24:17Speaker 1: just tell them what worked for me. I mean, I
- 24:20Speaker 1: have a really great relationship with God. I you know,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I'd wake up every morning, I've watched my sermons, I pray,
- 24:26Speaker 1: I meditate, I write all of my thoughts down. If
- 24:29Speaker 1: I'm not writing them down, I'm recording them in my phone. Um,
- 24:33Speaker 1: listen to yourself. Let you keep a path with you,
- 24:35Speaker 1: or you just write. Um. Sometimes I keep a drawing
- 24:37Speaker 1: on with me sometimes I do. Um, sorry, I'm about
- 24:40Speaker 1: to take a bite. Take a bite sous that you eat? Chairs, chairs,
- 24:47Speaker 1: chairs to another successful episode of eating wall broom, m
- 24:51Speaker 1: just so good. That was so good, Daddy, Mama Jay,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I made Ardellico. Si. Okay, yes, come on, you know
- 25:01Speaker 1: what time it is? Yes? I really wanted to know
- 25:06Speaker 1: a time of something that your fans really don't know
- 25:09Speaker 1: about you. I mean, okay, do me this one? In
- 25:15Speaker 1: what area of my life? Personal? Personal? Okay? Love, family, girlfriends,
- 25:24Speaker 1: love love? We always love love songs? Right, I do love,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I do? I do? Um okay? Uh? Past? Present, future?
- 25:35Speaker 1: Which one is the juiciest? You let me know? You
- 25:38Speaker 1: gotta pick a box past present. I feel like past
- 25:42Speaker 1: it's gonna be juicier because future is always bright, right,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I mean that's what we hope and present could possibly
- 25:50Speaker 1: be bright. I feel like past is always drama filled.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with past. Past. Um okay, so past,
- 25:59Speaker 1: real relationships, past, past breakups, past loves of my life? Past?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Uh past the best sex ever? Had? I think my
- 26:15Speaker 1: friends pas, who did I write, you know, writing certain
- 26:20Speaker 1: what were certain songs about in their songs that I wrote?
- 26:22Speaker 1: Can I get multiples, just to multiples and I'll let
- 26:25Speaker 1: you go. I promise you, all right, Okay, Um, we
- 26:28Speaker 1: want to know the best sex for all the guys. Okay, okay,
- 26:32Speaker 1: look guys behind the camera, like what and then what
- 26:36Speaker 1: was all the one? I'm sorry, I got so excited.
- 26:38Speaker 1: It's okay past Um we said, oh past songwriting like
- 26:44Speaker 1: writing songs? Yes, that one. Okay. Um, Well, if we're
- 26:49Speaker 1: talking about sex, and I love mixing sex sets and
- 26:52Speaker 1: food is actually a good limits a good some good
- 26:55Speaker 1: food and some good little sexy food and having a
- 26:57Speaker 1: good night and a good glass of wine and a
- 26:59Speaker 1: good even like set it up. That's where that's where
- 27:02Speaker 1: we really begin with like good sex, you know what
- 27:04Speaker 1: I mean? Like you got wine and dine. It doesn't
- 27:07Speaker 1: have to have to be super fancy. It could be
- 27:09Speaker 1: whatever it is. But um, some good food, some good wine,
- 27:13Speaker 1: some good music, and you know, pay attention to you know,
- 27:17Speaker 1: women were very sensual, pay attention to our bodies. We're
- 27:20Speaker 1: gonna tell you exactly what it is that we like.
- 27:22Speaker 1: We're gonna tell you what feels good. We're gonna at least,
- 27:25Speaker 1: you know, we should. I think women should be more
- 27:28Speaker 1: vocal about that too, yeah, yeah, like all in the
- 27:30Speaker 1: facing owning and we don't do that's I think, And
- 27:34Speaker 1: I hate to be fully transparent, but I think that
- 27:36Speaker 1: really comes down to like how comfortable you are with yourself,
- 27:40Speaker 1: Like you gotta get with yourself first before gate with
- 27:44Speaker 1: someone else. I hate to say it, but it's true.
- 27:46Speaker 1: To be comfortable with you'll get to know yourself. You
- 27:49Speaker 1: know yourself, No, no one makes yourself tick, you know
- 27:51Speaker 1: what I mean. It's a very important thing. Um, and
- 27:54Speaker 1: then be with some you know, when when sex is
- 27:58Speaker 1: with someone that you're really comfortable with, it's a really
- 28:01Speaker 1: beautiful thing. It's a really really beautiful thing. And you know,
- 28:05Speaker 1: I have a record on my album call change my Mind,
- 28:08Speaker 1: and change my Mind speaks about being in such a
- 28:11Speaker 1: space with someone to wear. Um, you may try a
- 28:14Speaker 1: few things that you didn't think that you would want
- 28:16Speaker 1: to try before a life before and you know, so
- 28:20Speaker 1: all of it goes hand in hand. I like to
- 28:22Speaker 1: write about real life and um, you know, me and
- 28:25Speaker 1: my girlfriends have juicy conversations and a lot of my
- 28:28Speaker 1: like my brother type guy friends. You know, I write
- 28:30Speaker 1: with a lot of men, so these are like a
- 28:33Speaker 1: lot of our dialogue and like studio. And that's how
- 28:35Speaker 1: we how y'all think we write the sex records and
- 28:37Speaker 1: how we write it's these conversations that makes sense. Yeah,
- 28:41Speaker 1: we're human. It's human nature, all right. Now, love one. Um,
- 28:47Speaker 1: we're gonna hear a name drop here. I don't know.
- 28:50Speaker 1: We were trying. We're trying to hear name drops on
- 28:52Speaker 1: both Okay, so go on new name drop. You know,
- 28:57Speaker 1: it's just it's just one of those things I just
- 29:00Speaker 1: I love to pull from. Um. You know, I'm a
- 29:04Speaker 1: very I'm a first of all with cancer, so I'm
- 29:07Speaker 1: very into with my emotions and very sensitive and um,
- 29:11Speaker 1: but I think that that's one of my superpowers. And
- 29:14Speaker 1: you know when I have records like say like it
- 29:16Speaker 1: won't Stop, or like before I do, or even on
- 29:20Speaker 1: on my new projects songs like you know Taboo. Taboo
- 29:24Speaker 1: was a beautiful record about um. You know, if you
- 29:27Speaker 1: you ever meet someone and things feel so great that
- 29:31Speaker 1: you know, naturally we like to go is this too
- 29:34Speaker 1: good to be true? Right? That's a normal thing, because
- 29:38Speaker 1: let's be honest, meeting people that you actually vibe with
- 29:40Speaker 1: and you know, you can check off a few that
- 29:42Speaker 1: it's it's rare. But when you know you know it's
- 29:46Speaker 1: so taboo is a song about um not being afraid
- 29:50Speaker 1: of that you know, uh, you know too good to
- 29:53Speaker 1: be true thing. It's like, too good doesn't have to
- 29:55Speaker 1: be taboo. Why can I just want to be with you?
- 29:58Speaker 1: Why can you just want to be with me too?
- 30:00Speaker 1: You know what I mean? So um in terms of love,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I've definitely experienced that before, So that record is drawn
- 30:07Speaker 1: from that situation. I like that. I'll say this for
- 30:10Speaker 1: myself and then I'm gonna let you go because I
- 30:12Speaker 1: know you're on a very crazy schedule. Two things I
- 30:15Speaker 1: learned when it came to relationships. One, when you meet
- 30:18Speaker 1: someone and you guys have this like this, like why
- 30:22Speaker 1: are we just so in sync? And I went to counting.
- 30:25Speaker 1: What they had said was whatever feelings and emotions you
- 30:28Speaker 1: had from your childhood are being a like brought up
- 30:33Speaker 1: and that's why you feel that stronger connection. But sometimes
- 30:37Speaker 1: it's good and bad, you know, and you don't realize
- 30:40Speaker 1: it's bad. Told something you carry over that needs to
- 30:42Speaker 1: be left in your name. You don't need to carry
- 30:45Speaker 1: those on. And then some things you know they do.
- 30:49Speaker 1: But that's why it's important death conversations about it to
- 30:54Speaker 1: talk about it, and then for people who don't know
- 30:56Speaker 1: how to talk about it. That's why I take what
- 30:58Speaker 1: I do so seriously because music really is a universal language.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I don't care. You don't have to speak English, Spanish, French, whatever.
- 31:06Speaker 1: If you feel something and music can help you express it,
- 31:10Speaker 1: all you gotta do is press play. Yeah, you know
- 31:12Speaker 1: what I mean. Everybody's not good and expressing how they feel,
- 31:15Speaker 1: so you know music can be that tool. Yes. And
- 31:18Speaker 1: then the last thing I wanted to say was, and
- 31:22Speaker 1: I don't know if you've had this discussion with your girlfriends,
- 31:24Speaker 1: but when girls pick guys, we tend to lean towards
- 31:27Speaker 1: what's safe. Well, actually, I take that back. I feel
- 31:30Speaker 1: like when guys date, they date, when they make it
- 31:33Speaker 1: a girlfriend or wife, they make sure she's safe. When girls,
- 31:37Speaker 1: they we tend to like be drawn to the players
- 31:40Speaker 1: and the more riskier guys. I mean, we have a
- 31:43Speaker 1: balance definitely between hot and cold. But I definitely think
- 31:46Speaker 1: women take the most risks when it comes dating, dating
- 31:49Speaker 1: and serious relationships. I think that I don't I don't
- 31:55Speaker 1: think I won't say the most, but we do take
- 31:57Speaker 1: risks for sure, because you always hear um, you know,
- 32:01Speaker 1: we always hear that good girls like bad boys. We
- 32:05Speaker 1: get that. But also I think that it just sometimes
- 32:08Speaker 1: it's seemingly sometimes. Um, you know, let's say, men may
- 32:13Speaker 1: think that things are one way, but then you know,
- 32:15Speaker 1: things turn out to be a whole other way. Like
- 32:17Speaker 1: you can never judge a book by its cover. So
- 32:20Speaker 1: we tell my hobby that all the time. Girls, you
- 32:25Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, very ill, my brother that all
- 32:27Speaker 1: the time. Yeah, don't never get a twisted girls and
- 32:29Speaker 1: girls are very smart. Okay, yes they are. Um. Anyways,
- 32:33Speaker 1: I just wanted to say thank you so much for
- 32:36Speaker 1: coming out feeding me. I look forward to sharing this
- 32:40Speaker 1: recipe and the Eating Wall Broke book. You guys can
