- 0:34Ho, ho, ho!
- 0:35Welcome to Drive Thru episode number 39.
- 0:39This is our monthly recap, where we put together a menu of automotive,
- 0:43motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 0:46Now let's pull up to window number one for more automotive news.
- 0:50Look at that.
- 0:52Don Wieberg has graced us with his presence for the first time
- 0:56on a drive thru, and it's an extra special one because this
- 1:00is our Holiday Shopping Guide.
- 1:03Well, you know what, guys?
- 1:04We are going to be visited by three ghosts tonight.
- 1:07We're going to be visited by the ghosts of drive thrus past,
- 1:10the ghost of Christmas presents.
- 1:14And the ghost of break fix guests yet to come.
- 1:18For our Patreons, we're going to do a little show and tell on this episode.
- 1:22So this is some incentive for y'all to check out the behind the scenes
- 1:25video, all the craziness that happens on a drive thru episode.
- 1:29So let's kick it off.
- 1:30With some general gift ideas.
- 1:32You know, we're having discussions around the writer's room.
- 1:34What should be in the holiday guide?
- 1:36What do you buy for your petrolhead, your loved one in your life?
- 1:38Dire Gal that's got all their toys.
- 1:40Well, this one from five years ago resurrected itself.
- 1:44What about the Honda Type R lawnmower?
- 1:46This could be a winner.
- 1:48This is a contender right here.
- 1:50Save yourself the heartburn and go to Honda, get some decal stickers, and
- 1:54strap it onto your existing lawnmower.
- 1:57It sort of looks like a Roomba.
- 1:59I think it is.
- 1:59I think it's one of those electric autonomous lawnmower things.
- 2:03They have those, the robotic lawnmowers.
- 2:04I've seen them.
- 2:05They're basically a Roomba with a blade underneath the mask.
- 2:09I would buy that lawnmower.
- 2:11That thing looks cool.
- 2:12I mean, you'd be the talk of the neighborhood.
- 2:14I want the Porsche version of that.
- 2:15I want like the RS GT4, only charcoal gray.
- 2:19The Momo.
- 2:20Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 2:22Bigger weighing, fatter.
- 2:24You get the hippie 917 livery on that thing.
- 2:27That would look good going around your yard, yeah.
- 2:29Or the pink pig.
- 2:30The pink pig would work.
- 2:31Oh, that'd look cool.
- 2:32Oh, yeah.
- 2:34That's what we buy for the holidays.
- 2:36Racing livery kits for our robotic vacuums.
- 2:39And autonomous lawnmowers, somebody make that, somebody start marketing that.
- 2:46Oh, that would be awesome.
- 2:47So Don, you and I, last year, we talked about the Pilate shoe company.
- 2:51And I said, I'm such a fan boy.
- 2:53I have a bunch of Pilates stuff.
- 2:54I love their shoes.
- 2:55My daughters have bought shoes for me over the years.
- 2:58And you mentioned to me that they started making.
- 3:01Coffee last year and a last minute haste.
- 3:03We actually ordered some.
- 3:04We have the V8, the V10 and the V12 coffees.
- 3:08Oh, you got all three of them.
- 3:09Yeah, they're excellent.
- 3:10And you know what?
- 3:11They're not just a shoe company.
- 3:13They have tons of other accessories from phone cases made of DuPont
- 3:18blast resistant Kevlar to shirts, to hoodies, you know, the normal
- 3:24apparel, the coffees and other things.
- 3:27But more importantly.
- 3:29They've done a deep discount on their shoes this year.
- 3:32I got a hold of a pair that I want to show off.
- 3:35You actually bought a pair?
- 3:37Yeah, why wouldn't I?
- 3:37Shoes?
- 3:38Come on.
- 3:40Oh my, the ultimate fashion statement.
- 3:42So they come in this delightful black box.
- 3:45It's an unboxing.
- 3:46Yeah.
- 3:47The Dodge stripes on it, you know, the black over black.
- 3:49Very cool.
- 3:50So you open this thing up, right?
- 3:52And you pull out the Le Mans driving shoes.
- 3:55Check these out.
- 3:57These were discounted at over 50 percent off clocking in still
- 4:02under 100 after the discount.
- 4:03So these were a really, really good deal.
- 4:05Super comfortable.
- 4:06I love their everyday driving shoes.
- 4:09I think these are fantastic and tons of their styles of shoes are
- 4:13on sale right now from the Prototipo RS's to more of like a Samba style
- 4:17driving shoe called the Midnight.
- 4:20To include the LeMans shoes.
- 4:22So if you haven't checked them out yet, visit www.
- 4:28piloti.
- 4:28com for shoes and other cool car inspired accessories.
- 4:32My wife and I would just, I need new shoes.
- 4:35We're going to Vegas tomorrow.
- 4:36So she said, do you want to go get new shoes tonight?
- 4:38Or do you want me to pick you up some new shoes?
- 4:40I said, no, that's fine.
- 4:41I'll just get them in Vegas.
- 4:42I think I'm going to go back to the New Balance brand.
- 4:44Oh, you're going to be a Corvette owner soon.
- 4:46Well, the sad thing about it was I was always a New Balance
- 4:48guy way back in the day.
- 4:50Like, here's a weird thing.
- 4:51No kidding.
- 4:52At Motor Trend, everyone wore New Balance.
- 4:54Really weird.
- 4:55It's like the car guy's shoe.
- 4:57We ought to be doing a plug for a New Balance cause we all wear them.
- 5:00Your Corvette club membership has just been accepted, Don.
- 5:02That's right.
- 5:03I know I'm a, I'm a closet Corvette guy, but you, you are a closet New Balance guy.
- 5:07You just haven't embraced it yet.
- 5:08Uh huh.
- 5:09Uh huh.
- 5:09Yeah.
- 5:10Yeah.
- 5:10Yeah.
- 5:10I got something to show you guys.
- 5:11I thought this was super cool.
- 5:13I found this at Petit Le Mans.
- 5:15So you guys know what this is?
- 5:16Filter box.
- 5:17An oil filter.
- 5:18And I said the same thing.
- 5:19It's red and it has Motul written all over it.
- 5:22And you open it up and inside is this.
- 5:25A can of Motul 300V.
- 5:27But not just any 300V.
- 5:30A 300V.
- 5:30The handle!
- 5:32Yeah.
- 5:32And it's made from Motul 300V.
- 5:35Does it smell like burnt oil?
- 5:38It actually smells quite nice.
- 5:39If you like the smell of Motul 300V, it's ester based.
- 5:43It's kind of got that sickly sweet smell to it.
- 5:45They have other versions of this, and this is actually made by a company in St.
- 5:50Louis called Flying Tiger Motorcycles in partnership with Motul.
- 5:54And I'll let Adam and Ryan tell you more about this really unique.
- 6:01And that's kind of where this product lies is like in that blurred space
- 6:05between, Oh yeah, you know, my so and so rides a motorcycle, but I don't,
- 6:09and I don't really understand, or I love it, but I don't have a motorcycle
- 6:13and, you know, you see this a lot at racetracks, you know, it's the reason
- 6:16people buy the t shirt, they like that feeling of wonderment that they get from
- 6:19it, you know, everything that's going on around them, and they want to take
- 6:21a piece of that home with them and, you know, an event t shirt is one thing,
- 6:25but this is something a little more.
- 6:27Sure.
- 6:27interactive.
- 6:27Motul 300v candles.
- 6:30We made them so you can come inside from the garage and be with your family.
- 6:35Let them smell how you smell.
- 6:38Let them smell how you feel.
- 6:40Let them know where your mind's at.
- 6:42Motul 800v for when you absolutely You just need to smell the racetrack.
- 6:50So what do these candles cost if somebody does want to pick one up?
- 6:54Currently they are at 40.
- 6:57That's a bargain.
- 6:58Especially if your significant other shops a Yankee candle.
- 7:01And if you know how much a liter of 300V costs, it's a good deal.
- 7:04Everybody listening that has one, if you could please light them.
- 7:08We're getting ready to make more batches as winter comes, so we got
- 7:11to keep that money machine going.
- 7:14Yes, please burn your candles.
- 7:20I think that'd be kind of cool to have a candle that smells like motor oil.
- 7:23If for no other reason, but every now and then I get moody.
- 7:27So I want to burn something that really offends people to make them go away.
- 7:32I love going to tire shops.
- 7:33I think that's the coolest smell in the world, but my wife can't stand it.
- 7:37So it's one of those things where if you want to get rid of people, you
- 7:39just burn some tires and it's good.
- 7:41I mean, what's wrong with the smell of castor oil in the morning?
- 7:44Right.
- 7:45Especially when it's on fire.
- 7:46And these are for the petrol head in your life.
- 7:49So if you're interested in checking them out and seeing the other varieties
- 7:52of candles that they have available, hop on over to flying tiger, moto.
- 7:57com.
- 7:58All right.
- 7:58I got another one for you guys.
- 7:59This one's a stocking stuffer and then some.
- 8:01These are made by a young lady in Pennsylvania named Cheryl Taylor.
- 8:06And she has a bunch of different motorsport and other
- 8:10inspired drinking tumblers.
- 8:12This one happens to be a can of WD 40.
- 8:15I've taken this to meetings.
- 8:16I've actually forgotten it in the garage because it blends in with everything else.
- 8:20She's got cans of Ford motor oil, Rust Oleum, other kinds of things.
- 8:24These are a lot of fun.
- 8:25They come in at 19 bucks.
- 8:27She does have them in different widths, heights.
- 8:30Diameters, et cetera, but you can also get them for an upcharge
- 8:33with a speaker built into them.
- 8:35That's actually really awesome.
- 8:37You know, the first time I saw something like that was in the
- 8:39remake of Gone in 60 Seconds.
- 8:41Angelina Jolie.
- 8:43She is at the Ferrari dealership.
- 8:45Nicolas Cage comes to ask her to help him.
- 8:47And she's just about to get off work.
- 8:49And she grabs this gas can, just starts tugging whatever's in there.
- 8:53And at first, it kind of shocked me.
- 8:54I thought, what the hell is she doing?
- 8:56It's just water.
- 8:57You sounded so disappointed.
- 8:59It was just water.
- 9:01But remember, like she said, you gotta work twice as hard when it's legal.
- 9:05I think these are really, really cool.
- 9:07And you can check those out at Pretty Ginger Crafts on Facebook
- 9:11or email PrettyGingerCrafts.
- 9:12com.
- 9:12Pretty ginger crafts at gmail.
- 9:14com and look at Cheryl's catalog.
- 9:17She says she has over 400 different designs that she can
- 9:20make on these aluminum tumblers.
- 9:23Hi, I'm Lydia Finette, and I'm so excited to announce the launch of my
- 9:27first ever, the strike method necklace.
- 9:30Those of you who've seen me on stage at broad arrow know that
- 9:33I always come with a gavel.
- 9:35I feel like it brings me confidence and power anywhere I go, and
- 9:38I want you to feel the same.
- 9:39So.
- 9:40You can pick up this limited edition gavel charm necklace at www.
- 9:45lydiafenet.
- 9:46com or on Instagram.
- 9:48And I hope that you will buy it for yourself, your daughter, your
- 9:52granddaughter, anyone who needs that little extra confidence boost.
- 9:56The power is within us, but it never hurts to have a charm as well.
- 10:01I think everybody ought to get out there and consider an auction.
- 10:05Now, as crazy as that might sound, yes, we all have eBay, and
- 10:08that's a terrific resource, too.
- 10:10But for the motor enthusiasts, it's a little bit vanilla.
- 10:13So, what I'm thinking is Mecham.
- 10:17Because Mecham has their new product, Mecham On Time.
- 10:20And that's literally very much like eBay.
- 10:23You get up there, it's on a computer, it's entirely computer.
- 10:26And you just...
- 10:27Start doing your bidding.
- 10:28That's a nice thing.
- 10:28It's entirely automotive.
- 10:31If I remember correctly, there's 1200 items that are available on Meekum
- 10:34on time, including fine art, Dale Earnhardt collectibles, 60 micro cars,
- 10:40buddy L's and gas and oil collectibles.
- 10:43The registration is free.
- 10:44Bidding is easy.
- 10:46You can shop for your favorite road art gifts now at ontime.
- 10:51meekum.
- 10:51com.
- 10:53And receive the gift just in time for the holidays.
- 10:56Was that a pun?
- 10:57That's right.
- 10:58So I think an auction might be fun.
- 10:59It's something different for people.
- 11:01And you never know what's going to pop up.
- 11:03Speaking of auctions and collectibles and memorabilia, near and dear to
- 11:07all of our hearts on this episode are things like model cars.
- 11:11Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and especially Legos.
- 11:14I have to say that maybe it's somebody's at Lego.
- 11:18Our generation is in charge at Lego.
- 11:21There is a lot of car stuff going on, as evidenced by the Speed Champions,
- 11:25the Technic stuff, all the things you can buy on the shelf here in the U.
- 11:28S.
- 11:28There's some really cool stuff.
- 11:29All petrolheads, we're all just doing the church nod right now.
- 11:32Because the Speed Champions series has really been ramping up.
- 11:36We've mentioned it before.
- 11:38This year I found one that I especially liked.
- 11:41And it's the Ferrari 330 P4, Le Mans edition.
- 11:44This thing is fantastic for the bargain price of like 20 bucks.
- 11:48You can have this basically 1 18th scale size model on your shelf made of Legos.
- 11:53And I learned about a website maybe in more detail than I knew before.
- 11:57And that's rebrickable.
- 11:59com.
- 11:59And that allows you to take some Lego sets and turn them into some other really cool
- 12:02things without having to buy new parts.
- 12:05And I mentioned before that, you know, under some rich people things, there
- 12:08was some kits that you could get from like the block zone to build different
- 12:12kinds of automotive models that are out.
- 12:13I found the best of the best, at least in my opinion, you take Dom
- 12:18Toretto's charger from fast and furious.
- 12:21And did you know, you can turn it into the 1989 Batmobile,
- 12:26the Michael Keaton Batmobile.
- 12:27It is the hotness.
- 12:29I have some pictures on doing the conversion.
- 12:31A lot of fun.
- 12:32It's a good way to spend time with the kids.
- 12:34They're interested in, you know, building their little towns, but also in the
- 12:36engineering side with the cars and stuff.
- 12:38So that's been a lot of fun.
- 12:39So if you're out there looking for maybe a different hobby,
- 12:42something new, don't discount Lego.
- 12:44If you're a fan of Audi.
- 12:47And the late Ken Block, there is a Ken Block edition Audi
- 12:52e tron set that is available.
- 12:54That is my number one pick.
- 12:56That's actually on my Lego wishlist this year.
- 12:58I want that thing really bad.
- 12:59It looks really cool.
- 13:01And interestingly enough, Lego has also started to incorporate remote
- 13:06control options and the Ken Block Audi e tron, which clocks in at about
- 13:10179 bucks, comes with the RC option.
- 13:13I think that's super cool.
- 13:14Did you know that there is a NASCAR Lego?
- 13:17You can get the next gen Chevy Camaro ZL1.
- 13:21Is it the garage 56 one?
- 13:23I don't think so because it says number 75 on it.
- 13:25That's a missed opportunity.
- 13:27Right.
- 13:28But it could be yours for the low, low price of 49.
- 13:3099.
- 13:31That's not bad.
- 13:31Does it come with vroom vroom sounds or you got to make those yourself?
- 13:34Sold separately.
- 13:36Vroom vroom sounds sold separately.
- 13:38Batteries not included.
- 13:40But I get the feeling, Eric, that you like to make your own vroom vroom sounds.
- 13:44Only with my Matchbox cars.
- 13:46Okay.
- 13:46Yeah.
- 13:47Speaking of Don, you and I got to sit down with a lifelong enthusiast
- 13:52who turned his passions into a career in the model car business.
- 13:56Your buddy, Patrick Strong.
- 13:57Yeah.
- 13:57We ought to do an unboxing.
- 13:58That car has never been out of the box.
- 14:00Oh yeah.
- 14:01I got that beautiful Kuntosh from him.
- 14:03I don't know who made it.
- 14:04I forgot who made it, but whether you are a veteran collector with very
- 14:09finally home taste or whether you are new to the hobby model, citizen diecast.
- 14:13com is a.
- 14:14great place to find a very tightly focused selection of exquisite model cars.
- 14:20And if you are new to the hobby, my contact info is readily available
- 14:24there, and I'm always happy to answer any questions you might have.
- 14:28Honestly, I'd rather make a friend than a customer.
- 14:31The beautiful thing about Patrick Strong is he represents a whole
- 14:35bunch of different manufacturers.
- 14:37If you have a dream of a dream car like I did with the Countach and then you
- 14:41woke up one day and realized you're probably never going to be able to
- 14:45afford the real thing, so he hooked me up with as close as possible of
- 14:49the real thing as I could hope for.
- 14:51I know that we have the holidays coming up.
- 14:53I typically do a kind of a low key Black Friday, Cyber Monday sale in that
- 14:58I just put a lot of stuff on markdown.
- 14:59I don't do a special promotion with, you know, here's your
- 15:02percentage discount or buy two get one free or anything like that.
- 15:06It's just.
- 15:07Things get put into the sales section.
- 15:08So week after Thanksgiving, I'd be looking for that to happen.
- 15:11The best way to find out about deals like that is to get on our mailing list.
- 15:15We're not spamming.
- 15:16We only send emails out to let people know about new products or
- 15:20events where we're going to be.
- 15:21Modelsitizendicast.
- 15:23com is a great place to start or continue your journey as a diecast model collector.
- 15:32Well, since you mentioned that, Don.
- 15:34We found something in what we would normally showcase in
- 15:38our lost and found section.
- 15:39We found a Lamborghini that maybe you can afford.
- 15:42Have you seen that the Wolf of Wall Street Lamborghini Countach
- 15:46is now available and for sale?
- 15:48Yes, yes.
- 15:49And with a little bit of spit and polish, that car will come right back together.
- 15:53That will buff right out.
- 15:55Absolutely.
- 15:56Yeah.
- 15:56Tell you how stupid we got when we had our meeting up in Monterey with
- 16:00our Ferrari mechanic, and he basically talked me out of getting a 456 by
- 16:04telling me it was 35, 000 to service it.
- 16:07I got to thinking, you know, we can't afford the Countach, so
- 16:10why don't we just go get a 550?
- 16:11That seems like the next logical step.
- 16:13You know, the Wolf of Wall Street car would be really cool
- 16:16because you've seen my house.
- 16:17I have a fairly large front yard and it's on a corner and I can
- 16:21just imagine building like a nice concrete platform and just placing the
- 16:26Countach like sculpture right there.
- 16:28I think that'd be good.
- 16:29I think the neighbors would like that.
- 16:31So would you venture a guess as to how much you could get that
- 16:33new monument in your yard for?
- 16:36How much?
- 16:37A hundred dollars.
- 16:37A hundred?
- 16:38I wish for a wrecked Lamborghini.
- 16:40I mean, it's a legit 25th anniversary Lamborghini.
- 16:44How much could I get at the scrap mill yard?
- 16:46I turned it in 500.
- 16:48All right, Bob, the low, low bargain price, 100, 000 million and a half.
- 16:56Million and a half.
- 16:57Million and a half for a wreck to Lamborghini.
- 16:59Can you believe that?
- 17:00No, no, no.
- 17:02That's insane.
- 17:02Considering you can probably get a mint conditional one for 800.
- 17:05Yeah, but this is the Wolf of Wall Street's car.
- 17:07The real deal.
- 17:08Yeah.
- 17:09Well, you know, used as a prop in the movie, but still the real deal.
- 17:12Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:14Yeah.
- 17:14I have a friend way back when who was so excited he got his first Mercedes
- 17:19and he was so happy with himself and so proud of himself and he didn't
- 17:23have it a week and it was run into by a big F 150 and he found out very
- 17:27quickly how easily your Mercedes bends.
- 17:30Ah, that's Christmas jokes right there.
- 17:36Oh, let me tell you about the three elves that walked into a pub.
- 17:39No, moving along.
- 17:40This year was a good year for authors.
- 17:43Yes, we have a lot of books to cover this year.
- 17:47So let's start off with one of our guests from upstate Michigan, Larry Jorgensen.
- 17:51Remember when we interviewed Larry?
- 17:53I do.
- 17:53He was a very nice man.
- 17:54Very interesting guy.
- 17:55Lots and lots of stories.
- 17:57I set out to do a shipwreck book, okay.
- 18:00I thought it was fascinating.
- 18:02Do you know what's happened?
- 18:03I've got as many people that are interested in vintage
- 18:07cars that have come to me.
- 18:10The book is for sale in numerous vintage car museum gift shops.
- 18:16Blew me away when I realized that I had created two markets, not just people
- 18:21that like to read about the great lakes and shipwrecks, but all these people
- 18:26that are crazy about vintage cars.
- 18:28It's amazing.
- 18:29Besides affecting an entire peninsula.
- 18:32It affects so many people in different ways.
- 18:35His book Shipwrecked and Rescued is still for sale.
- 18:38The book includes over 200 1927 Chryslers that are rescued
- 18:42from a Great Lake shipwreck.
- 18:44This is an amazing true story that has been recently revealed.
- 18:47It includes over 50 historic photos showing how the cars and the crew
- 18:51finally rescued all those Chryslers.
- 18:53It explains what happens to the cars after the rescue.
- 18:56And where one of the remaining cars can still be seen today.
- 18:59The cover on the book, when we decided this is too good a story to not really put
- 19:04some real effort into it, the cover on the book, I hired a artist in the Keweenaw to
- 19:10create that artwork that's on the cover.
- 19:13I wanted something that would show both the state of the boat and the cars.
- 19:18And he was able to meld that together into one painting.
- 19:21It's a fantastic painting.
- 19:22This could be a special gift for the holidays.
- 19:25It's an award-winning book.
- 19:26It's available at shipwrecked and rescued.
- 19:29Make sure you got past tense shipwrecked and rescued.com.
- 19:33If you go to the website, I'll even sign it to you if you want me to.
- 19:37Yes, it's available on Amazon and fortunately it's
- 19:41available in a lot of places.
- 19:44Michigan bookstores, White House museums that have gift stores.
- 19:49Like I said before, a lot of vintage auto museums have got
- 19:53the book in the gift stores.
- 19:55You never know where you may see it.
- 19:57You know, I've heard this and you walk into a place and there it is.
- 20:01You know.
- 20:01You can also call Larry directly at 3 3 7 5 9 1 1 9 3 7.
- 20:06The book normally retails for 20, but as a special holiday promo, if you reach
- 20:13out to Larry or order it on the website and mention GTM, he will sell you the
- 20:17book for 12 bucks, shipping is free.
- 20:20And all the books are signed by Larry.
- 20:23That's pretty cool.
- 20:23Next up our friend and newest panelists on the what should I buy series.
- 20:29Jeff Willis has been on the show several times.
- 20:32Most people might not remember, or maybe you gotta jump back to his episode.
- 20:36He wrote a book called Human in the Machine.
- 20:39And there it is.
- 20:40A very interesting book.
- 20:41It's a compilation of different stories, people he's interviewed, like the
- 20:45founders of Petrolicious, to people like Elspeth Beard, who was also on the show.
- 20:50Full of pictures, full of interesting stuff.
- 20:52It's really about car culture in the Pacific Northwest and upper California.
- 20:56Pretty well put together construction wise paper and everything.
- 20:59Yeah.
- 20:59And it's got color photos in it.
- 21:00And a lot of these photos were taken by Jeff because he is a photographer.
- 21:05He's noted for doing events like velocity, Monterey car week,
- 21:08pebble beach, things like that.
- 21:10So he included a lot of that in the book as well.
- 21:12So really, really great.
- 21:13Stuff in here.
- 21:14You can buy it on Amazon.
- 21:16It's another 20 book.
- 21:17Great stocking stuffer.
- 21:18Great gift human in the machine by Jeffrey Willis.
- 21:22Speaking of Jeff, I mentioned he hooked us up with Elspeth Beard, who is featured
- 21:26in his book, Human in the Machine.
- 21:27He actually co hosted that episode with me as we interviewed Elspeth.
- 21:31If you don't know her story, she's the first British woman to circumvent
- 21:35the world on a BMW motorcycle.
- 21:37She took this trip in the early eighties and it took her three years to complete.
- 21:40She tells the entire story in her book, Lone Rider, which is
- 21:44available in print or on Audible.
- 21:46So you can listen to it if you don't have time to read it.
- 21:49We have a lot of content on Elspeth on our website.
- 21:52Check out the episode, check out the live stream that we did from
- 21:56Bob's BMW this year when we met her.
- 21:58Her book is absolutely fantastic.
- 22:00This is a one of a kind story and is well worth reading.
- 22:03Very inspiring, lots of ups and downs, lots to learn from Lone Rider.
- 22:08So it was an absolute pleasure and an honor to sit down and interview her.
- 22:12But if you haven't listened to the episode, do so, but also
- 22:14pick up a copy of Lone Rider on Amazon or listen to it on Audible.
- 22:19Don, do you want to talk about parking limits and parking
- 22:22meters and county zoning again?
- 22:25It's what I live for, you know.
- 22:27Paved Paradise, written by Henry Grabar.
- 22:30We had him on the show, what, about a month ago?
- 22:32Mm hmm.
- 22:33They paved paradise and put up a parking lot?
- 22:35Exactly.
- 22:35Joni Mitchell, right?
- 22:36Big yellow taxi.
- 22:37Yeah, very interesting guy.
- 22:39Very, very interesting.
- 22:40Paved Paradise.
- 22:41is basically a study in how parking has changed the world.
- 22:47It's a fascinating book.
- 22:48You'd probably pass this over at your local Barnes and Nobles
- 22:52and not even think about it.
- 22:52Oh, that's a really interesting cover.
- 22:54Flip it over and be like, wait, what?
- 22:55What is this about exactly?
- 22:57The premise of the book is really to explain How parking plays such an
- 23:02amazing role in our daily lives in terms of zoning taxes, how they can
- 23:08build an architect, how they can change cities, how restaurants are built.
- 23:11Like, there's so many different things involved in just that side
- 23:14of the conversation really gives you a different look at parking.
- 23:18I mean, the funny thing is about parking, it's so boring.
- 23:20I mean, who cares?
- 23:22You put your car in a space, you drop in a quarter, you walk away.
- 23:26But there's so much more behind it, and you know, Henry really brings
- 23:29that to light, and who knew there was so much fascination about parking?
- 23:33And then he talks about the darker side of parking, which I know, Don, you
- 23:36enjoyed, like, the stories about the mobs and the gangsters and how they're
- 23:40laundering money through parking garages.
- 23:42And then it boils down into a study of economics.
- 23:45How much does parking really cost?
- 23:47You know, is there such thing as free parking?
- 23:49And it clocks in at about 325 pages.
- 23:53It's a quick read.
- 23:54So I highly recommend checking it out.
- 23:56Hi there.
- 23:57I'm Henry Grabar.
- 23:58I'm a journalist at Slate.
- 24:00a past guest and the author of Paved Paradise, How Parking Explains the World.
- 24:05It makes a great gift and you can pick it up at a bookstore near you or
- 24:10get the audio version from Audible.
- 24:12Thanks for listening.
- 24:16Another quick read.
- 24:17Another one I recommend.
- 24:18This is a carryover from last year because we didn't talk about it due to timing
- 24:23with this episode survival of the fastest, which is Randy Lanier story, the whole
- 24:28thing about weed speed and the 1980s drug scandal that shocked the racing world.
- 24:33You know, as the joke goes, what does IMSA stand for?
- 24:35The international marijuana smugglers association, not the
- 24:38international motor sports association.
- 24:40It's Randy's rise to fame and also his demise.
- 24:43And then what was really cool is we were actually able to sit down
- 24:47with Randy after the book came out.
- 24:49He's been out of prison for quite a number of years now.
- 24:51And we did a, where is he now?
- 24:54Talking about all the things that happened after he's been out, what
- 24:57he's into, how he's working with the community, how he's giving back.
- 25:01You got to read Survival of the Fastest to understand where the story is.
- 25:05Granted, there's a Netflix special.
- 25:07The book is awesome.
- 25:08It's worth reading.
- 25:09And then, you know, continue that journey with the Break Fix
- 25:12episode surrounding Randy Lanier.
- 25:14So a great stocking stuffer as well.
- 25:16All right.
- 25:16Yeah.
- 25:17Parking.
- 25:19There's some wild stuff there, man.
- 25:21Wild stuff, you know.
- 25:23We gotta park somewhere, right?
- 25:24Well, what did we park in front of?
- 25:26The hydrant.
- 25:27That's how we got that ticket, man.
- 25:29Some restaurant, silly.
- 25:30Oh, the restaurant, man.
- 25:32Yeah, the restaurant, man.
- 25:34Sorry, man.
- 25:35I'm looking at you with your little hat and your sweater and your beard.
- 25:38And, man, I'm getting all weird here, you know, man.
- 25:40I think I'm on like Cheech and Chong or something, man.
- 25:44Get the Impala.
- 25:45Let's go, man.
- 25:46Up in Smole.
- 25:47Now, you know, you say up and smoke down here in Texas, they're gonna
- 25:50think, Oh, where's the barbecue?
- 25:51Speaking of barbecue, talking about all that parking and pulling up in front
- 25:56of restaurants, we sat down with David Page, author of Food Americana, who also
- 26:01happens to be the creator of Diners.
- 26:04Drive ins and dives.
- 26:05He was a cool guy.
- 26:06He had a lot to offer.
- 26:07He was very insightful.
- 26:08He knew a lot of crazy places that you knew, which I thought was
- 26:11interesting because he's East Coast.
- 26:12But then he finally hit this little dive down in, uh, Baker, California on
- 26:16the way to Las Vegas from Los Angeles.
- 26:19And it was a mad Greek.
- 26:20So that was kind of fun.
- 26:21We bonded over that.
- 26:22Let's hear from David Page about how you can get his book.
- 26:25Hi, I'm David Page, creator of Diners, Drive ins and Dives.
- 26:29And now an author.
- 26:30I've written a book called Food Americana.
- 26:33It tells the great stories about the great people behind some
- 26:37of America's favorite dishes.
- 26:39Please pick up a copy of my book.
- 26:41It's a great gift for the holidays.
- 26:43It's all about America's favorite meals.
- 26:46At Amazon.
- 26:48com or your favorite bookstore.
- 26:55Well, Don, you have some friends and authors in the business.
- 26:58What are some of your recommended reads?
- 27:00I have no friends.
- 27:01None.
- 27:02That's why I burn candles that smell like motor oil to offend them.
- 27:06No, you know, one of my favorite guys in the world is Matt Stone.
- 27:09He was my mentor when I was interning at Motor Trend Magazine
- 27:14and Truck Trend Magazine.
- 27:15He was one of my many mentors.
- 27:16I had about 40 of them there.
- 27:18But Matt and I bonded over a lot of stuff.
- 27:20We liked a lot of the same cars.
- 27:22Very strange.
- 27:22We had a lot of the same history with cars.
- 27:25And so he's written good Lord and over 40 books by now in his lifetime.
- 27:29He couldn't join us on the show today because he's working on a brand new
- 27:33book, should be out mid 2024, late 2024.
- 27:37I would imagine.
- 27:37And he didn't want to talk about that right now.
- 27:40So I'm going to throw him under the bus and talk about one of my favorites.
- 27:43365 cars you must drive by Matt Stone in it.
- 27:48Matt has gathered a multitude of cars.
- 27:50that have to be experienced to be believed.
- 27:53From the gorgeous to the hideous, to the well built, to the not so well
- 27:56built, the list encourages readers to get out there and have fun with cars.
- 28:01It was written in conjunction with John Mattress, Dan
- 28:05Gurney, he wrote the foreword.
- 28:07It's really, really a fun book because it covers everything from the
- 28:10Model T to the Porsche Carrera GT.
- 28:13So you're going from one extreme to the other.
- 28:16And what's really kind of fun about it.
- 28:17I don't remember if he does it for every car, but he does have suggestions for the
- 28:22perfect passenger for this car and what soundtrack should be played in this car.
- 28:28It's really kind of fun.
- 28:29The perfect drive for whichever car you're talking about.
- 28:32So.
- 28:32Tonya, if you had a Carrera GT, what would be the perfect drive?
- 28:36Where would you want to take it?
- 28:38Anywhere where there's nobody else on the road.
- 28:40Sounds like a motorcyclist.
- 28:42It's actually a place called Baker, California.
- 28:44You can go to the Mad Greek.
- 28:45There's nobody else on the road.
- 28:47So you'd be good.
- 28:48There's so many great roads, even in the U S up to the summit of
- 28:52Pikes Peak, tail of the dragon.
- 28:54Somewhere along the Appalachian trail, even Shenandoah through like Skyline
- 28:58Drive would be great places out West.
- 29:01As well, some of the ones like Angela's Crest and some of those other
- 29:04places out in the canyons of like Malibu and Santa Monica and stuff.
- 29:08I mean, there's so many great roads to take a car like that.
- 29:10So yeah, that's 365 cars you must drive by Matt Stone.
- 29:15Well, what else you got?
- 29:16Another buddy of mine, Lance Lambert.
- 29:18He was a columnist for Garagetown Magazine, so he was our first.
- 29:21And he stayed with us through the last printed edition.
- 29:24And we're thinking about bringing him back for the digital edition.
- 29:27So that might be interesting.
- 29:28He too has written a number of different books.
- 29:30One of the most fun ones is Fenders, Fins and Friends.
- 29:34Lance brings together a gaggle of stories from his days gone by in a
- 29:38way that only Lance can tell them.
- 29:40And if you know Lance, he is a consummate storyteller.
- 29:43The guy knows how to wind up a story and deliver it beautifully.
- 29:47He really does got a real gift for that.
- 29:49And a lot of admissions, admissions of the wheel stands and police sirens
- 29:52and stalls are just a snowflake on the glacier of some of the stories.
- 29:56Lance tells us bringing laughter and tears, but mostly understanding
- 30:01because car guys all have stories.
- 30:03So that's Fender's Fins and Friends by Lance Lambert.
- 30:06Another one, another columnist I lassoed in for Garage Town Magazine was Phil Berg.
- 30:12Motoring heads will always remember Phil Berg as the godfather of the garage
- 30:17movement with his book Ultimate Garages.
- 30:20Ultimate Garages inspired many to make over their garages and enjoy their space.
- 30:25Having written two Ultimate Garages, the books take readers
- 30:28into a journey into places mere mortals are not allowed to tread.
- 30:33So you can get inspired to make over your own garage by checking out
- 30:36Ultimate Garages or Ultimate Garages.
- 30:39Two, I feel bird.
- 30:40Both of them are hacked with incredible, incredible garages that
- 30:44we'll probably never be able to afford, but it's fun to dream, right?
- 30:47Next up I see on your list, you have an author that I share a book with.
- 30:51I was at petite Lamont and I almost missed the opportunity.
- 30:55Cause I had it on my list of things to grab before I left.
- 30:57And I stopped by a vintage book stand that was there and of all things
- 31:01sitting on the shelf, a bargain find the biography of Enzo Ferrari.
- 31:06As written by Brock Yates.
- 31:08Oh, I bought that.
- 31:09And it was a whopping 10 bucks.
- 31:1210 bucks, that's it?
- 31:13With a deal.
- 31:14That's a steal.
- 31:15Yeah, for 10, that's big.
- 31:16So I think that mine was 20 something.
- 31:18I bought that one, Brock Yates.
- 31:19The first one I read was more of a love letter to Enzo, the person that wrote it.
- 31:24Kind of glossing over his other stuff.
- 31:26But the one from Brock is supposed to be just like, Hey, he doesn't hold back.
- 31:29And that was his style.
- 31:31Yep.
- 31:31I'm finishing up that other book that was started on that thing.
- 31:34Cause I'm excited to read it.
- 31:36Cause Brock really, Hey, he tells it like it is.
- 31:38It's supposed to be really, really good.
- 31:39And I gotta give a shout out to Vintage Motor Books for having titles like
- 31:44this available for really cheap prices.
- 31:46Not only did I pick up the biography of Enzo Ferrari by Brock Yates, I also picked
- 31:51up books like Fast Women, The Legendary Ladies of Racing by Tom McCarthy.
- 31:56I picked up some other Audi histories and chronology books and things like that.
- 32:00Vintage motor books, you can go check them out online.
- 32:03They're in Portland, Oregon.
- 32:05They have a massive collection of books about cars, about racing, service
- 32:09manuals, owner's manuals, sales brochures.
- 32:11You can reach out to them directly at vintage motor books at comcast.
- 32:14net, or you can call them at 5 0 3 7 0 4 2 9 2 4.
- 32:18Lots of great stuff at vintage motor books.
- 32:20If you want to check out some of these maybe long lost or forgotten
- 32:24stories that are out there.
- 32:25You know, one of my favorite books by Brock was Cannonball.
- 32:28Did you ever read that one?
- 32:29I did not, but he's the founder of One Lap of America.
- 32:32Yeah, that was him.
- 32:33People say he had a little something to do with the Cannonball run too.
- 32:36And if you're a car guy, you probably know what the Cannonball run is.
- 32:39It's not just a movie.
- 32:40It's actually a real race.
- 32:42From coast to coast back in the 70s, Brock wrote a book called Cannonball to
- 32:47document the actual facts of what happened and what didn't happen, quote unquote,
- 32:52to kind of break away from a lot of what was happening, which was people spinning
- 32:56a yarn as to this, that, and the other.
- 32:58And they're pulling from the movie as reality when in reality.
- 33:01The movie was far from reality.
- 33:03Great book though.
- 33:04Cannonball by Brock Gates.
- 33:05It really is a terrific book.
- 33:07We go back and forth, collector car, motorsport.
- 33:09We're always debating it on what should I buy?
- 33:11And there's a huge assortment of different books out there.
- 33:14There are literally books for every discipline of
- 33:16racing and really every mark.
- 33:19Of manufacturer out there, if that's what you're interested in.
- 33:22In this case, I want to highlight Monaco motor racing by Edward Quinn.
- 33:25It focuses on formula one racing from the 1950s and sixties.
- 33:29It brings together portraits and images of the racing action from teams like
- 33:33Ferrari, Jaguar, and Porsche and other exciting brands from one of the most
- 33:37demanding courses in the F1 season.
- 33:40That's the Monaco Grand Prix.
- 33:41It's over 270 illustrated pictures.
- 33:44It's a fantastic book, a great coffee table addition, or in addition to
- 33:48your den or your garage collection.
- 33:50So I highly recommend Monaco Motor Racing.
- 33:52And you can pick that up on Amazon.
- 33:54Talking of ghosts of break fix guests yet to come, Bryce Kenney, pro driver
- 34:00of the Great Clips Mohawk Warrior Monster Jam truck, visited us.
- 34:05He talks about his new book called Geared for Life.
- 34:08Hey guys, this is Bryce Kenney, driver of the Great Clips Mohawk
- 34:12Warrior Monster Jam truck.
- 34:13And if you're like me and ever get to that point where your head
- 34:19hits the pillow and you think, is this really all there is to life?
- 34:23Then maybe all you need to do is not be given some secret formula
- 34:27or some secret to success.
- 34:29Maybe all you need to do is find your next gear.
- 34:33That's what Geared for Life is all about.
- 34:35I would love and be honored if you would pick up a copy anywhere books are sold.
- 34:39Go on Amazon, pick up your copy, and I'll see you down the road at Monster Jam.
- 34:44I'm a break fix fan, so let's keep it rolling.
- 34:47Thanks, guys.
- 34:51It's a bit of a self help, inspirational book.
- 34:53It's really life lessons from the track.
- 34:56He was a top thrilled dragster driver before he became a Monster Jam driver.
- 35:01And a lot of tribal knowledge passed down by his grandfather, things
- 35:04that he captured along the way.
- 35:05Life lessons, you know, trials, errors, and failures, and then ultimately
- 35:09success, becoming a monster jam driver.
- 35:11So he's got this paradigm of shifting from one gear to another,
- 35:15and when do you have to downshift?
- 35:16And when do you upshift?
- 35:17And when life presents you with challenges, how do you get out of the way?
- 35:20And how do you take those evasive maneuvers and things like that?
- 35:22So it's a really interesting book.
- 35:24It caters to the petrolhead, the car enthusiast, the motorsports enthusiast.
- 35:29It's really written for us.
- 35:31In talking to him, you learn very quickly that sometimes folks in our world, in our
- 35:35sport, we're reluctant to ask for help.
- 35:38And this way he tries to translate what he's learned, even from the
- 35:42mental health arena, so that we can digest it in a way that's palatable.
- 35:46So I would definitely recommend checking out Geared for Life.
- 35:49And it's another book that's available on Amazon, like a lot of these are.
- 35:52And that's by Monster Jam driver, Bryce Kenney.
- 35:55That's not a good one.
- 35:56So Don, let's talk about one of your really close friends, Rodney Kemmerer.
- 36:00He's got a new book that just came out.
- 36:02Yeah, I brought it with me so you could see it.
- 36:04I don't know if you saw it, but I got my copy.
- 36:06So it's a nice glossy cover and then he's got some of the quotes
- 36:10from us plebeians in the back.
- 36:12And of course, Jay Leno, he's up here at the top of the cover.
- 36:15He's got a lot of terrific stories in here.
- 36:17So the graphics in this book are absolutely phenomenal.
- 36:20They really are.
- 36:20They were taken from the Garage Style column.
- 36:23But for example, here's one, one of my favorite stories called Full Serve.
- 36:27That is a picture of a beautiful boogie gas station in Beverly Hills.
- 36:32He did a story on how that gas station came to be, who it was
- 36:35designed by, why it's so special, really, really bold artwork.
- 36:39This one's kind of a good one.
- 36:41It's called Dorothy, and it's all about a special Mercedes, which you
- 36:45see here in Rodney's own garage.
- 36:47It is the Mercedes.
- 36:48I believe the number is one 70.
- 36:50It was one of the first Mercedes actually imported in North America.
- 36:54Then there's, I mean, this silly little thing here, which when you read the
- 36:57story, what we're looking at is a picture of a Honda Accord hatchback
- 37:01special edition from 1978, and he wrote about it in one of his columns for
- 37:06garage style, uh, where he established.
- 37:09The title of this book, Tales from the Garage, and he literally has a
- 37:13lot of his own original pictures of this Honda that he was writing about.
- 37:18And everybody says, well, why is he writing about a Honda?
- 37:20Well, really the story behind it is pretty fascinating.
- 37:22It is his Honda.
- 37:23He bought it brand new and how he secured the loan was pretty interesting because
- 37:27at the time he had not only the old Mercedes 190, he had some other Mercedes.
- 37:32So he dressed up in a suit and tie.
- 37:34Went to the bank, applied for the loan, and they asked for what the collateral
- 37:37was, and he put down two Mercedes Benzes.
- 37:39Well, when you see two Mercedes Benzes, a guy in a tie and a suit,
- 37:43you think this guy's got it going on.
- 37:45He's a sure bet, you know.
- 37:46So they gave him the loan for the Honda.
- 37:47He went running off and went to work.
- 37:49So he's got a lot of really, really cool stories.
- 37:52Thanks, Eric and Don, for having me on your BreakPix podcast to talk about
- 37:56my new book, Tales from a Garage.
- 37:59Everyone has a car story, or two.
- 38:02These just happen to be mine.
- 38:03These are personal stories of mine, mixed with the stories of others.
- 38:07Part memoir, and part the memory of other people.
- 38:09It's not a narrative.
- 38:11Each story stands alone.
- 38:12Each chapter has its own graphic language that runs through each
- 38:16story, so that nothing is repeated.
- 38:18It is designed with the shape and the feel of an automotive owner's book.
- 38:23So it fits into your glove box, so you can take it with you.
- 38:26And I'm hoping you do take a look.
- 38:27It's available at talesfromthegarage.
- 38:29com and it's available on Amazon.
- 38:32Perfect Christmas.
- 38:37So really, Tales from the Garage, it is all about tales that guys
- 38:41might tell each other in the garage about things that happen to them.
- 38:44The beautiful thing about this book is how it relates to Anyone, anybody
- 38:49can read this book and enjoy it.
- 38:51They'll get some nugget of information out of it.
- 38:53So you can find this on Amazon as well.
- 38:55Tales from the Garage.

- 40:10Friend of the show and former guest, Bob Gillespie.
- 40:13If you reach back into the catalog and look at the Green Grand
- 40:17Prix episode, he talks about his past in the motorsport world.
- 40:20He's a renowned artist based out of the Watkins Glen area of New York.
- 40:24He's known for putting together, during the holidays, A beautiful calendar.
- 40:28He self publishes these.
- 40:30They're all his artwork.
- 40:31And this year he's featuring Corvettes because it is the 70th birthday of
- 40:36Corvette, which coincides with the 75th birthday of Watkins Glenn.
- 40:40But let's hear from Bob on how you can get one of these.
- 40:43Hi everybody.
- 40:43My name is Bob Gillespie.
- 40:45I'm a motor sports artist, 12 lithograph prints of my racing history paintings.
- 40:51illustrate my 2024 desk calendar.
- 40:54This year, there are nine famous Corvettes plus three others.
- 40:59It comes in a clear plastic CD case together with an artist introduction page.
- 41:04I'm proud to say that I've been self publishing this desk
- 41:07calendar for 18 years, featuring different paintings of mine.
- 41:11The price is 16 each plus 4 shipping.
- 41:16If you're in the Watkins Glen area, you could stop by the
- 41:19IMRRC and pick up a copy there.
- 41:22You can order by emailing me or calling me at 315 694 2812.
- 41:29And I would like to wish everybody a happy holiday.
- 41:34One of the other favorite places to go is a great website called vintageautoposters.
- 41:40com.
- 41:40Now vintageautoposters.
- 41:42com is a wonderful place if you're interested in getting original
- 41:46artwork from back in the day.
- 41:48These are posters, these are advertising.
- 41:51Pieces.
- 41:51These are some very colorful stuff from way back in the turn of the century.
- 41:55One piece I was interested in acquiring was an original point of sale.
- 42:00Weber carburetor counter piece, probably only five inches
- 42:04tall by three inches wide.
- 42:05It's more like a card, absolutely stunning graphics.
- 42:09One thing you got to remember about this classic vintage art is it's
- 42:12not like today where we just put it on the computer, fire up a printer
- 42:15and boom, in 30 seconds, it's done.
- 42:17Back then they literally had to hand draw this stuff.
- 42:21And then they had to come up with, in some cases, lithographs to put it
- 42:25on the can, to put it on the metal, to put it on wherever there was a lot
- 42:28of work involved, a lot of artistic artisan skills that are lost today.
- 42:33And that is what vintageautoposters.
- 42:36com will bring to you.
- 42:38And it's all guaranteed original investment grade.
- 42:41So I think that might be something special for one of those gearheads in
- 42:44your life who really appreciates fine art.
- 42:47Speaking of artists, you know who else stopped by the studio?
- 42:50Renowned Porsche artist Kelly Telfer.
- 42:53Eric just asked me, what are we doing for holiday promotions and sales?
- 42:57I'm going to double my retail price and give you 50 percent off
- 43:00everything, including freight.
- 43:03Let's show a little love to FedEx and the UPS.
- 43:05Those guys don't mean to lose the packages or drop kick them
- 43:08through the goalposts of life.
- 43:10They don't do it on purpose.
- 43:11They don't ever drop an original painting or run over it.
- 43:14I'm sorry I didn't say that back up the track.
- 43:16Oh my God.
- 43:17So yes, the week of November 15th, I'm going to put one of my original 000.
- 43:24Every day I'm going to lower the price by 500 until someone buys it.
- 43:28You might get a good painting for 500 bucks.
- 43:30Well, it's an okay painting.
- 43:32And then the other thing I'm going to do in the week of November 29th, I'm
- 43:36going to offer 25 percent off my entire website, everything, except few things.
- 43:41I don't know.
- 43:41You can't see all the stuff I have.
- 43:42You want artifacts?
- 43:43Come here.
- 43:44I'll give you a bunch of junk.
- 43:45That's really cool.
- 43:46But 25 percent off everything.
- 43:48Shipping, packaging, and the artwork as well.
- 43:51Sorry, UPS, FedEx.
- 43:52Love you guys, man.
- 43:53You've saved me a million times.
- 43:55You're the best.
- 43:56Go Raiders.
- 43:57Out.
- 44:03Ah, good old Kelly Telford.
- 44:04Speaking of fine art, another great place to go to.
- 44:07is carartinc.
- 44:10us.
- 44:11Again, we're dealing with fine art here.
- 44:13Some of the great artists in the automotive industry.
- 44:16It is run by Peter Aylett and Peter is himself a great artist.
- 44:20He used to design for Mazda, Ford, and even DeLorean at one point.
- 44:25Great guy.
- 44:26He will help you find a commission if you want to put yourself or your
- 44:31loved one or a special car in a.
- 44:33Piece of art that's very original.
- 44:35He can help you find the artist who can make that happen.
- 44:38Or maybe you just want to find something that puts a certain scene or a certain
- 44:42mood, maybe you've got a loved one from New York and there just happened to be
- 44:45a great picture of an old Cadillac at Christmas time, driving down fifth Avenue.
- 44:50In the snow with old New York in the background.
- 44:53Really cool.
- 44:54Or maybe you have a friend from Malibu and the thing is surfing.
- 44:57Well, there it is.
- 44:58Malibu picture with a beautiful surf scene.
- 45:00And of course, some sort of Woody in the foreground or maybe some sort of
- 45:04sports convertible fun, fun stuff.
- 45:06Hey, this is Danny P the host of the podcast, Danny P on cars.
- 45:10I've just founded a new company, 077 Media.

- 45:30There's so many podcasts out there.
- 45:35How do I find the one for me?
- 45:39For so long, I've searched for podcasts all over, but none
- 45:43of them seem to fit my needs.
- 45:44Where's my Nick Cage pissing fire podcast?
- 45:47Where's my monkey tickling?
- 45:49I couldn't find it anywhere.
- 45:51Until, I found everything I learned from Louie's podcast with Steve and Izzy.
- 45:55And now I get to hear about all the monkey tickling I want, baby.
- 46:00So many podcasts out there are all talk and no congo.
- 46:04That's why I listen to everything I learn from movies.
- 46:07Greatest Living Actor?
- 46:08Nicolas Cage, of course.
- 46:10That's why I listen to everything I learn from movies.
- 46:14One liners, plot holes, virtuitous boobies?
- 46:17Fun fact, that's why I listen to everything I learn from movies.
- 46:21See if everything I learn from movies is right for you at EILFmovies.
- 46:25com Everything I learned from movies on Twitter, Facebook, or Patreon.
- 46:31Free on all the major podcatchers.
- 46:33So since we're still thinking about the holidays, you know, maybe
- 46:35we'll flat pack ship some cars to people as a gift this year.
- 46:39We also have some rich people things to talk about.
- 46:42And William, I specifically pulled this one out for you knowing kind of cars
- 46:46you deal with, the people you deal with.
- 46:48And I want to know about these Bugatti.
- 46:50Sunglasses.
- 46:51I buy my sunglasses at Speedway.
- 46:53Ha ha ha ha ha!
- 46:55There you go.
- 46:56That's the American way.
- 46:57Bought my sunglasses at Buc ee's.
- 46:59Yeah, exactly.
- 47:00What you're telling me is, these Bugatti sunglasses are not on your Christmas list.
- 47:05God, no.
- 47:05Some of these things are tacky as hell.
- 47:07I mean, you gotta have just stupid money.
- 47:09Cause I mean, the cost, everything.
- 47:11I mean, I don't know.
- 47:12These have mother of pearl inlays.
- 47:1518 karat gold, black palladium accents, grade 5 titanium, carbon
- 47:21fiber, macassar ebony wood.
- 47:24Why wouldn't you want this for 2, 000?
- 47:27Yes.
- 47:27For you to accidentally sit on and break.
- 47:31Yeah, these things look like glasses that, you know, you're sitting down at a deli
- 47:35getting yourself a bowl of matzo soup.
- 47:39Or you're in like a lecture hall and your professor flips
- 47:42up as he came in from outside.
- 47:43I mean, they're just bizarre Oh my god And just imagine what the knockoffs
- 47:50will look like because you know, those are coming right behind it Someone's
- 47:53gonna change them just a little bit so they don't get in trouble It's like the
- 47:57rounded corners on the Samsung, right?
- 48:01Exactly.
- 48:03Geez.
- 48:04See the yellow glasses.
- 48:05I'm sorry to say this.
- 48:06They remind me of, you're going to pick up a rifle and take aim at me.
- 48:09Oh my Lord.
- 48:11Now you've got yellow lens glasses too.
- 48:13Oh boy, I'm in trouble.
- 48:15I'm at a Smith and Wesson convention here.
- 48:17Yeah, right.
- 48:17But we need to talk about watches.
- 48:19And Don, this is your area of fine expertise.
- 48:23So what have you brought us to sample and look at?
- 48:26Well, starting at number one, YEMA.
- 48:29Y E M A.
- 48:31Not to be confused with the city in Arizona, Yuma.
- 48:34But YEMA has been in business since 1948.
- 48:38And they built watches in France using Swiss made manufactured calibers.
- 48:43However, recently they turned to crowdfunding to finance their own
- 48:49manufacturing of manufactured calibers.
- 48:51Now, if you don't know what that is, literally it's the
- 48:53mechanicals in the watch.
- 48:55It's the little gears, the little springs, the little tickers that make the watch.
- 48:59Oh, and once you wind up now, the nice thing about Yema, what
- 49:02I like about them, they have a watch seemingly for every interest.
- 49:05They've got a watches for the boating guy to get watches for the airplane
- 49:09guy to get watches for the car guys, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
- 49:11One of my favorites is the Rallygraph line, which is R A L L Y G R A F.
- 49:17Very, very racy looking.
- 49:19Looks like it might be on a movie in the sixties.
- 49:22Being worn by Steve McQueen or somebody like that.
- 49:24Very, very cool stuff.
- 49:25Don, don't discount this watch.
- 49:27This was done in partnership with Alpine.
- 49:30That's right.
- 49:31It was.
- 49:31They are a formula one team.
- 49:33They are in Le Mans.
- 49:34This is not just any rally graph watch.
- 49:37This is the Alpine rally graph watch.
- 49:40This thing is really cool.
- 49:42And if you're into French sports cars, if you're into racing.
- 49:45I think this is a great get.
- 49:46It really is a cool watch.
- 49:48The way it's styled, the way it's designed, the heritage of it with
- 49:50Alpine really does look like it stepped right out of the sixties racing scene.
- 49:54Paul Newman could be wearing this thing and it'd be right there.
- 49:58Gmail watches are not all that much money for what you're getting.
- 50:01They're really fantastic watches.
- 50:03I really like them.
- 50:03So I hope somebody will check them out.
- 50:05Maybe use them for a stocking stuffer.
- 50:07If for whatever reason, those.
- 50:09Do not pet your fancy another great company that I really like.
- 50:13And I'm actually holding one of their time pieces is Fero and company F E R R O and
- 50:20company founded in 2014 by two brothers.
- 50:24The question was.
- 50:25Why do watches with exceptional mechanicals and
- 50:28design need to cost so much?
- 50:29That was literally what those two brothers were talking about one day.
- 50:32To that end, they set out to produce affordable watches that
- 50:35celebrate aviation, fine dress, business, and, of course, motorsport.
- 50:40With a multitude of chronographs and single hand watches, there seems to
- 50:44be something for Everyone, the one that I'm holding here is kind of
- 50:48interesting because you'll notice on the top, there is three, five,
- 50:52six, which of course is Porsche 356.
- 50:54It looks like a three 56 speedometer.
- 50:56Yeah, exactly.
- 50:57That was what they designed it for.
- 50:59And you can look in the back and you can see the clear casing.
- 51:02So you can see all the mechanicals.
- 51:04Working back there, really a fun watch comes with a perforated strap
- 51:08with either green or red detailing.
- 51:10I have the green one and I really like it.
- 51:12Every one of them is numbered.
- 51:14These were limited edition.
- 51:15I want to say they made a thousand of them.
- 51:17There are still a few of them that are for sale.
- 51:19Terrific watch again, Pharaoh and Company.
- 51:23Another fun one, a little more serious, called Ernst Benz.
- 51:27Ernst Benz is a real person, or was a real person, if they sold the
- 51:30company ultimately, but what began as a quest to produce the most accurate
- 51:34and legible timepieces in aviation, Ernst Benz has grown into a watchmaker
- 51:39with a multitude of styles, all based off of the original concept.
- 51:43While flying is in their heart, It is in the art of watchmaking that
- 51:46drives them to produce watches that anyone can appreciate.
- 51:50The reason I bring them up is yes, they have the big pilot watches,
- 51:53which everybody has been into, but they also have a couple of motorsport
- 51:57time pieces that dribble in.
- 52:00To the mix specifically, they have a limited edition 50th anniversary Camaro
- 52:05watch, which is very, very handsome.
- 52:07So if you're a General Motors fan, you're a little off of the Corvette
- 52:11Club and more interested in Camaros.
- 52:14This is a really, really nice piece to commemorate 50 years of the Camaro.
- 52:18Now the next one is C-V-S-E-O-S.
- 52:22Vetos, founded by saso S at just 21 years old.
- 52:28CVS TOS watches brings a unique style and flair to the world of watchmaking.
- 52:34The racing lineup catches the spirit of motorsports through
- 52:37bold design and color usage.
- 52:39One thing that'll catch your eye about these watches is the shape of them.
- 52:44They're not your standard issue circle.
- 52:46They're not your standard issue rectangle oblong oblong.
- 52:49Yeah.
- 52:50I want to call them coffin shape, but I know that's a little bit morbid.
- 52:54You know, if you look at them, they're very, very, I call it busy design, but
- 52:58you can see you're through a lot of the watches, you know, workings of them.
- 53:01Their straps are absolutely fabulous and they do have motorsports styling.
- 53:07Your point body wise, they have all very similar design.
- 53:10There are quite a large watch clocking at 41 millimeters.
- 53:13They're going to take up a lot of wrist space.
- 53:15Even though they're a little busy, they're going to be easier
- 53:17to see at that larger scale.
- 53:19But yeah, I really do like the look of the bronze over gun metal of the
- 53:25Nardo, but there's some other ones here that are really, really cool as well.
- 53:28Yeah.
- 53:28It seems like there's a little something for everyone.
- 53:30The next one I like is Tag Heuer or Howard, depending on where you're
- 53:34from, how you want to say that.
- 53:36Might be impossible to make a list of cool motorsport watches without including
- 53:39the granddaddy of them all, the Monaco.
- 53:42The Monaco was made famous by Steve McQueen in the film Le Mans.
- 53:46The square watch is largely the I Ching of any car guy watches.
- 53:51I mean, it seems like any time you talk about car guy watches, the Monaco is.
- 53:55Bam.
- 53:56It's right there at the top of the list for the line.
- 53:58It's, it is the watch to gravitate to now.
- 54:01Nicely.
- 54:02You know, if you remember that movie, Steve's was in Gulf colors.
- 54:05I believe it had a blue strap.
- 54:07Even today you can buy the Monaco in any multitude of different colors.
- 54:12The Gulf is still available, but you can buy this thing in black.
- 54:16You can buy it in silver.
- 54:17You can buy it in red.
- 54:18You can buy it in all kinds of different things.
- 54:20Really, really a cool watch.
- 54:21And I guess the official name is the Tag Heuer Monaco.
- 54:26Oh, your, Oh, two automatic.
- 54:28What I like about this watch, the gulf liveried watch specifically, not just
- 54:32because it's a throwback to Steve McQueen is how they modernized it for 2023.
- 54:37Because if you look at it, it's got little extra touches that wouldn't
- 54:41have existed on Steve McQueen's watch.
- 54:42Like the Indiglo for the night stuff, but also the watch band itself.
- 54:46Is dual color, it's blue leather on top with an burnt orange on the bottom.
- 54:51I'm like, that's a lot of detail in something that it's movement, the way
- 54:55it lays out, the way it looks, it is a Swiss made watch, it's beautiful.
- 54:59And for the money, if you want a modernized version of what Steve
- 55:02McQueen had, and you're that type of collector, I couldn't see why you
- 55:06shouldn't have something like this.
- 55:07Yeah, they really are a cool watch and you're right.
- 55:09There's a lot of details that go into a TAG, especially the Monaco.
- 55:13I may be wrong, but it's probably the most expensive
- 55:16watch we've got on the list here.
- 55:17But I think as you're pointing out, it is probably well worth it to
- 55:20a lot of people just for all the details that's involved in that.
- 55:23Now, the nice thing about TAG, they have a very, very rich history in motors.
- 55:28Or, and one of my favorites is called the Carrera.
- 55:31It's another classic it's named for the Carrera Panamericana race of the 1950s.
- 55:36Another race that's close to my heart.
- 55:38It was one of my father's favorite races.
- 55:40And of course, Lincoln dominated it for a long time, but anyway,
- 55:43they developed the Carrera.
- 55:45It's a terrific watch.
- 55:46It's a lot more classically styled.
- 55:48It has more of a circular pace to it, but you can have it with chronograph.
- 55:52You can have it with non chronograph.
- 55:54You can custom tailor this watch pretty much however you want it to.
- 55:58There's a lot of motorsport heritage in this watch from Tag Heuer to De Pencel.
- 56:03Depencel is probably the newest company we're bringing to the program,
- 56:08but it was launched just in 2018.
- 56:11Depencel is the result of one man's interest in how watches work and
- 56:15blending their unique mechanisms with designs inspired by motorsport.
- 56:21Unlike so many others, Depencel is rooted literally in motor racing.
- 56:25As such, the company now produces a nice number of racing inspired watches,
- 56:30including one called the CERI R.
- 56:33Which looks shockingly like the TAG Monaco that costs infinitely less.
- 56:38Now, not to go knocking on the TAG, but there is something to be said about
- 56:42for those of us on a budget who would like something similar to the Monaco
- 56:47but can't quite afford that coin.
- 56:49One thing I like about Depencel, they come to the market and in typical racing
- 56:53spirit, they are all about competition.
- 56:55They have a very rebellious spirit.
- 56:57If you like cars, and especially if you love motorsport and racing,
- 57:00you're probably going to really appreciate that streak in a Depencel.
- 57:04Their version of the Steve McQueen is.
- 57:07Quite nice as well.
- 57:08I like the fact that it comes down in powers of 10.
- 57:11I was jokingly thinking to myself, where's the fossil version of this so I can
- 57:15knock another 10s place off of the price tag, but for the money, they're not bad.
- 57:19I actually really liked the series are eighties edition that has that stainless
- 57:24steel with sort of the elastic stretchy band and like that orange over black
- 57:29with almost the interlaced background.
- 57:31It looks like louvers on the back of a DeLorean or on the back
- 57:34of a Mustang that draws me in.
- 57:36And it almost feels like some Something that Jujaro would have designed.
- 57:39Right.
- 57:39I've seen Jujaro's watches too.
- 57:41They're quite nice.
- 57:41It has that appeal to me.
- 57:43So that's really, really interesting.
- 57:45Now it clocks in a little bit more expensive than their version of the Steve
- 57:49McQueen watch and some of the others.
- 57:50They're all really pretty cool.
- 57:52Yeah.
- 57:52I like the pen cell.
- 57:53I discovered them on Facebook and they were just promoting their watches
- 57:56and I just kind of kept after them.
- 57:58I really liked them.
- 57:59So the next item on the list is probably the.
- 58:03Youngest watch that we've got, which is De Tomaso.
- 58:06Wait, wait.
- 58:06Are you talking about De Tomaso like the Pantera?
- 58:10Yes.
- 58:11In fact, the watch line was inspired by the De Tomaso Pantera.
- 58:14Is it an Italian body with an American innards?
- 58:17Is that how this watch works?
- 58:19We gotta have this guy on your show so we can crack that open literally.
- 58:23But yeah, the manufacturing behind them and the man
- 58:26himself is Alejandro de Tomaso.
- 58:29Very, very interesting there.
- 58:30It said the design of the car is reflected by the watch.
- 58:34So I'm unsure, honestly, looking at some of them.
- 58:36I really don't see much Pantera in these watches.
- 58:39These watches are very modern, very sharp, very clean.
- 58:43I think it might go along with the new De Tomaso supercar that they
- 58:48were building, which we talked about last year on the drive through.
- 58:51So maybe this isn't a nod to the seventies Pantera.
- 58:54This is a nod to the new cars that are coming out.
- 58:57That could very well be.
- 58:58Yeah, I, I hate to say it, but I totally forgot about that car regardless.
- 59:02So talk about a watch that is rooted in not so much motor
- 59:05racing, but motor design.
- 59:07Bargain price too.
- 59:08My goodness.
- 59:09They're on sale right now at a 40 percent discount.
- 59:12You can grab one of these.
- 59:13De Tomazo watches, they MSRP at about two 30.
- 59:16They're coming in at 1 37.
- 59:18Yeah.
- 59:18If you want something a little nicer than a fossil that you can
- 59:21pick up at your local kiosk in the mall, these are really cool.
- 59:25I like the Repaso, the blue watch.
- 59:28I like that navy blue with the orange.
- 59:30Something draws me in about these pumpkin colored watches for some reason.
- 59:34But the D 10.
- 59:35With the copper over that charcoal, that is a really good looking watch.
- 59:41Yeah, they are beautiful.
- 59:42In fact, if you look at some of the outer edges of the cases have little
- 59:46hash marks on some of them and some of them are clean, it's such a fine,
- 59:51small detail, you either have the hash marks or you don't have the hash marks.
- 59:55And I think that's kind of a cool thing that as a customer, I can decide, do I
- 59:58want more detail, more eye candy, more visual pop, or do I want it cleaner?
- 1:00:03Very interesting the way they allowed customers to kind of do that.
- 1:00:06So fun stuff.
- 1:00:07Well, he also seems to be a big fan of the color yellow because there's about
- 1:00:11three or four different designs that feature that old school Pantera yellow.
- 1:00:16So that may be a drawback to the old cars, but very, very cool.
- 1:00:20Really cool.
- 1:00:21Fine.
- 1:00:22These are some really interesting pieces.
- 1:00:23Thank you.
- 1:00:24I try, baby.
- 1:00:25I try.
- 1:00:25Dude, this is exciting.
- 1:00:26As we get closer to the holidays, where we'll probably see more and more
- 1:00:30rich people, things popping up, Dan, what's going to be on your holiday
- 1:00:33shopping list here very soon, but you know what, when I go camping, I want
- 1:00:38to get away from everything, you know, when I enjoy the wild outside, but
- 1:00:41LG have made it much more easy for me to catch up with the latest Netflix
- 1:00:46show, they've developed a suitcase.
- 1:00:48Which is a 27 inch screen TV that supports airplay, supports screen monitoring.
- 1:00:54So just when you thought you've escaped it all, LG are there to make sure that
- 1:00:58you stay connected to the real world.
- 1:01:00What's the low, low bargain Best Buy price of this particular suitcase television?
- 1:01:05To you, sir.
- 1:01:06Just shy of a thousand dollars.
- 1:01:08You know, that's not unreasonable.
- 1:01:10That's expensive for 27 inch.
- 1:01:12Yeah, but how many 27 inches can you tuck away in a Pelican case and
- 1:01:17carry with you to your next campsite?
- 1:01:18I like the concept of being able to transport the TV, but I wouldn't be
- 1:01:24bringing it on my wilderness excursion.
- 1:01:26I also don't know where I would need to transport it to in general.
- 1:01:29It goes landscape and portrait, so I don't know why you would want, maybe Instagram.
- 1:01:34I want to watch Instagram at scale.
- 1:01:35If it doubled as a computer monitor, then I could see it being advantageous
- 1:01:40for like motorsports events, maybe at an autocross, a great way to like tuck
- 1:01:44it away, have it stored in a trailer.
- 1:01:46Tailgating, tailgating.
- 1:01:48Yes.
- 1:01:48It would be useful.
- 1:01:49Tailgating, you're in the parking lot of the game and you're watching
- 1:01:52pre game coverage in the parking lot.
- 1:01:55How many of these new big SUVs have TVs in them that you could just jack your
- 1:01:59Roku into and do the same thing though?
- 1:02:02They should do a Westphalia edition.
- 1:02:03Yes!
- 1:02:04Oh, then it's okay.
- 1:02:05Does that justify that?
- 1:02:06100%, it's done.
- 1:02:07If it comes in the Westphalia, I'm all for it.
- 1:02:09It's all good.
- 1:02:10That wouldn't be a bad idea because if you're taking your Westphalia on
- 1:02:13a road trip and in some nights you're not really where you need to be, you
- 1:02:17would have some form of entertainment.
- 1:02:19You know who's not going to be able to use this folding suitcase LG television?
- 1:02:24The gentleman that purchased a Bugatti Bolide.
- 1:02:27And stripped it down to its carbon fiber monocoque and turned it into an exo car.
- 1:02:32What compels people to do stuff like this?
- 1:02:35You spend four and a half million bucks and then you strip your car down?
- 1:02:39Maybe he wasn't allowed Hot Wheels as a kid.
- 1:02:41So this thing is stripped down.
- 1:02:43It weighs 2, 700 pounds.
- 1:02:46A full bodied bully day.
- 1:02:48weighs 3200 pounds, all of that stripping and you only save 500 pounds.
- 1:02:54And you know what else you lost in the process?
- 1:02:56Aerodynamics.
- 1:02:57Yeah, all of that is gone.
- 1:02:58Ground effects.
- 1:02:59He should have bought a Lucid Sapphire.
- 1:03:01That's the ticket right there.
- 1:03:02There we go.
- 1:03:03Well, you know what they might be buying?
- 1:03:04For their children.
- 1:03:06Oh, tell me there's a baby three.
- 1:03:08We talked before about the Bugatti baby twos.
- 1:03:12It was the Chiron.
- 1:03:13There was a minute.
- 1:03:14Oh, yes.
- 1:03:14The Bugatti Chiron.
- 1:03:15Yes.
- 1:03:16It also had the speed key.
- 1:03:17I think.
- 1:03:18Yes.
- 1:03:18There is a company called Group Harrington that apparently makes
- 1:03:22a whole bunch of these cars.
- 1:03:24There's the GB Spirit.
- 1:03:26There's the Ferrari Spyder.
- 1:03:28The Ferris Bueller Ferrari.
- 1:03:29Eric, pick the Ferrari.
- 1:03:30What would you pick?
- 1:03:31You got to go with the Cobra.
- 1:03:32The 289 Cobra.
- 1:03:34I'm doing the 300.
- 1:03:34You're going to go with the 300.
- 1:03:35Aye.
- 1:03:36Figured you would've went with the F 1 race car.
- 1:03:38Nah, I'm gonna go with the Merc.
- 1:03:39She's a Benz girl.
- 1:03:40And I probably would've, should've went with the Jeep.
- 1:03:42Let's see how much, let's see how much is...
- 1:03:44They're so expensive, they don't list the price.
- 1:03:47You might as well buy the real thing at that point.
- 1:03:49Yeah.
- 1:03:49You can design your car.
- 1:03:51Look at this shit.
- 1:03:51It's funny, you guys, bring this up.
- 1:03:53I saw some of these.
- 1:03:54At some of the auctions in car week, they're really, really cool.
- 1:03:58These are the nicest go karts you have ever seen.
- 1:04:01I believe it.
- 1:04:02If only we could afford them, we could each get one and then go.
- 1:04:05We talked about this before the go karts need to look like the race cars, and
- 1:04:08then you can do a proper Petit Le Mans.
- 1:04:11Or Petit Le Mans classic, there'll be amazing.
- 1:04:13Petit Petit Le Mans.
- 1:04:14Petit Petit.
- 1:04:15You should be able to get the pricing.
- 1:04:17It says to email for a quote.
- 1:04:19You can add things to your shopping cart.
- 1:04:21I don't know because when I went into the 300 it says request for quotation, leave
- 1:04:25your details and request quotation for the car and options you have selected above.
- 1:04:29Yeah, I see that.
- 1:04:29When they say that.
- 1:04:31You can't afford it more than you can afford, pal.
- 1:04:34I can go buy a real one of these, maybe two or probably
- 1:04:38less than this mini one costs.
- 1:04:40I do like the little Ferrari, California though.
- 1:04:42That's pretty sweet.
- 1:04:43I'm going to get one for Henry.
- 1:04:44Well, that's why we call it rich people.
- 1:04:47Thanks.
- 1:04:48Now to have the rich people things.
- 1:04:50So Don you're the garage mahal specialist, and it wouldn't be fair if
- 1:04:54we didn't talk about cool things and tools and other items for your garage.
- 1:04:59So what have you got for us?
- 1:05:00Yes, Eric, there's a lot of tools and other garage items that are very exciting.
- 1:05:04One of my favorites is a wax product and all of us garagephiles know we
- 1:05:09love to get out there and just polish on the fenders for a little bit.
- 1:05:12Zymal, been one of my favorite waxes for a long time.
- 1:05:15Anybody who's read Garage Style Magazine has seen it cover
- 1:05:18to cover on some occasion.
- 1:05:19Is car wax the perfect holiday gift?
- 1:05:22I've been asked that many, many times, many years.
- 1:05:25Somebody wants to give something to someone who loves cars and
- 1:05:29you don't know what to give them.
- 1:05:31Most holiday gifts say you bought something sophisticated or cool.
- 1:05:35But do they say, hey, I know what you love and I love that about you.
- 1:05:40Where cars are concerned, there's a passion involved.
- 1:05:42There's fun, there's thrills, but we need to remember that
- 1:05:45loving a car is a big job.
- 1:05:47So, you're right, giving somebody a 16 can of everyday chemicals for the
- 1:05:53holiday can be hard to understand.
- 1:05:56Sometimes it's not the car that you need, it's the car that needs you.
- 1:06:01So let's talk about a real gift.
- 1:06:03Scimall was created 44 years ago because of a love for cars and the exciting
- 1:06:08people who share a passion for them.
- 1:06:10We strive to make the best products based upon what kind of fresh ingredients
- 1:06:16we can find available in nature.
- 1:06:18This brings to the top of the market the highest quality and
- 1:06:22absolute best products that any collector or enthusiast could want.
- 1:06:27We want people to understand that we're part of that love for the automobile.
- 1:06:31And it doesn't matter whether it's a brass buggy or a brand new Ferrari.
- 1:06:37It's the love of the automobile and the reason why we're here.
- 1:06:40So when you think about the holidays, Think about that person
- 1:06:44that really loves that car.
- 1:06:46What would bring a smile to their face?
- 1:06:49It could be something as simple as a card, or it could be some Zymal.
- 1:06:52So when you go to Zymal.
- 1:06:54com, enjoy a little gift from us.
- 1:06:56You're going to have 35 percent off using the coupon code HAPPYHOLIDAYS.
- 1:07:02We want to wish a happy holiday to everyone from Zymal.
- 1:07:10If you're looking for a great gift, my personal favorite, they
- 1:07:13literally have the starter kit.
- 1:07:16You get a little sampler of whatever wax you want, plus their polish, plus
- 1:07:21their one particular product from Zymal is literally designed to...
- 1:07:25feed that flex agent and feed that paint to keep it flexible, keep
- 1:07:29it rich in color, keep it deep.
- 1:07:32Really, really cool stuff.
- 1:07:33Another one, a newcomer to the block is called Root66.
- 1:07:37Now Root66 is interesting.
- 1:07:39They are a one wax pony.
- 1:07:41They have one type of wax.
- 1:07:43It's a spray wax.
- 1:07:44But the cool thing about it is, at least last time I looked on the website,
- 1:07:48they were offering customers the opportunity to send in a photograph
- 1:07:52of their favorite car, and it would be printed on the box and the bottle
- 1:07:57that the Route 66 wax was delivered in.
- 1:07:59So that's kind of fun.
- 1:08:00So if you've got a friend or relative out there that's got a special car,
- 1:08:04if you can somehow get a picture of it and send it to Route 66.
- 1:08:08They'll pop it on that box in that bottle.
- 1:08:09That's pretty cool.
- 1:08:10That's available at root66wax.
- 1:08:13com.
- 1:08:13Yep, absolutely.
- 1:08:14And of course, the xymol.
- 1:08:16com.
- 1:08:17Okay.
- 1:08:17Another good one that you might want to look into, and it's a little bit more
- 1:08:20expensive, but it is something maybe you buy for that special someone, that
- 1:08:24special gearhead in your life who, Oh, I don't know, they need a little bit of
- 1:08:28garage organization and let's face it.
- 1:08:30Who doesn't need a little help in that department.
- 1:08:33Company out there called C Tech Cabinets.
- 1:08:35It's C T E C H Cabinets.
- 1:08:39C Tech Cabinets, they are all about garage organization.
- 1:08:43Literally the workbenches, the cabinets, the overheads,
- 1:08:46beautiful maple workbenches.
- 1:08:48And they're all configurable.
- 1:08:50They're all completely modular.
- 1:08:51So you can go on their website, you can design how long you want it,
- 1:08:54how wide you want it, how thick.
- 1:08:56You want to how deep you want it and pick your colors.
- 1:08:58They literally have hundreds of color to choose from.
- 1:09:01I personally like the bright yellow with that silver chim.
- 1:09:04I think that looks pretty sharp.
- 1:09:05Again, it's a bit more expensive for Christmas, but let's say
- 1:09:09you're buying it for a spouse, chances are you both have a house.
- 1:09:12This is only really going to enhance not only the value of
- 1:09:15the house at the end of the day.
- 1:09:17But it is also going to enhance both of your ability to enjoy
- 1:09:20that garage, organize that garage, figure out where you keep your
- 1:09:23tools, where you keep your Zymal.
- 1:09:25It's all good stuff.
- 1:09:26If you're interested in hitting up the auctions, Mecham has Mecham on
- 1:09:31time, which is a great place to find different antiques and road art, etc.
- 1:09:36Small items, but there's always a bunch of other auctions.
- 1:09:40You know what, Don?
- 1:09:41There's so many things that we could investigate in this category.
- 1:09:45And I've been accused of in previous holiday specials of basically going
- 1:09:48through my Amazon list from the year prior, pointing out really cool
- 1:09:52things that I've bought or people have inspired me to buy, but we did
- 1:09:56something even more special this year.
- 1:09:58If you visit our show notes, we have put together a kit sponsored by kit.
- 1:10:02co.
- 1:10:03And you can actually see all of our picks and there's direct links to
- 1:10:06where you can buy these items for your garage or your collection, et cetera.
- 1:10:10And by going.
- 1:10:11through our kit, you can get a discount on those items.
- 1:10:13Check that out on the show notes that follow this.
- 1:10:16You can learn about all sorts of other really cool garage items.
- 1:10:20They call it the season of giving for a reason.
- 1:10:23And we have some charities that we want to talk about.
- 1:10:26Yes, you're right, Eric.
- 1:10:27There are a lot of charities and tis the season for giving back and supporting
- 1:10:31those who are looking for a little bit extra love this year and who isn't.
- 1:10:36One of our favorites come from Deb Pollack.
- 1:10:38She established Drive for a Cure, which is raising lots and lots of
- 1:10:43money for Parkinson's research, a disease near and dear to her heart.
- 1:10:48If you go to her website, she explains all about it.
- 1:10:51So you can always make a nice donation there, help her and her cause, even get
- 1:10:55a little tax write off if you want to.
- 1:10:58Bill Warner's book, On the Other Side of the Fence, it's a wonderful pictorial
- 1:11:02of his history running around literally the United States taking pictures
- 1:11:06at different motorsports events.
- 1:11:08Hi, this is Bill Warner in Jacksonville, Florida, and I want to wish everybody a
- 1:11:11very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
- 1:11:13And I'm also here to promote a book that I did on six decades of motorsports
- 1:11:19photography from my first race at Sebring, Florida in 1960 to the present.
- 1:11:23So if you like photo books, this is it.
- 1:11:26Each one's got a little story behind it.
- 1:11:28To be honest with you, it's my life.
- 1:11:29From the time I was 16 years old to today.
- 1:11:32This includes a story from when I did a story with Andy Gibb on a Gimbala
- 1:11:37Avalanche Porsche down at West Palm Beach.
- 1:11:39Funny story.
- 1:11:40I have to thank my friends Jokin Moss, David Hobbs, Brian Redman, Hurley
- 1:11:44Haywood, Roger Pinsky, Mario Andretti, Derek Bell, Peter Brock for the lovely
- 1:11:50liner notes they did for the book.
- 1:11:51They were great to support it and they're in the book too.
- 1:11:54Each photo has a story behind it.
- 1:11:56It's more than just a photo book.
- 1:11:58So if you're interested in me, a nice Christmas present for anybody who's
- 1:12:01into auto racing and into photography, the book is available through Spina
- 1:12:04Bifida Jacksonville, or you can send an email to me at Bill Warner at bwracing.
- 1:12:11net.
- 1:12:11And I'll vector it over to them and we can get this book to you by Christmas.
- 1:12:14The price is a 100 donation to Spina Bifida Jacksonville, so
- 1:12:18it's completely tax deductible.
- 1:12:20All proceeds for the book go to Spina Bifida Jacksonville to take care of
- 1:12:23those people born with a terrible birth defect called Spina Bifida.
- 1:12:27Drop me a note.
- 1:12:28Have a Merry Christmas, and thank you so much.
- 1:12:35Interesting thing about Bill's book, he put this all together
- 1:12:38himself, he got it published himself.
- 1:12:40100 percent of the proceeds go for Spina Bifida research and support.
- 1:12:45Near and dear to Bill's heart.
- 1:12:47Well, we've reached that point of the episode where it's time to go up north
- 1:12:51and talk about eggnog and reindeer.
- 1:13:00The
- 1:13:08North is feeling more like beer cans and alligators.
- 1:13:11Is this Holiday Man?
- 1:13:13Is that what we're going to talk about?
- 1:13:14Wouldn't be a drive thru episode unless we went down south to our southern neighbors.
- 1:13:20The holidays have not happened yet, so we do not have fresh out of
- 1:13:25the oven holiday stories for you.
- 1:13:27So we are going to go back in time.
- 1:13:30Hold on, I got to add more rum to my eggnog before we get into this.
- 1:13:34So we'll start Christmas time and we'll work our way back to Thanksgiving.
- 1:13:38So headline alone, like to start with those because they're always good.
- 1:13:42Florida woman charged with assaulting sister with Christmas decoration.
- 1:13:46And I got really excited because I'm thinking there's lots of kinds
- 1:13:51of Christmas decorations here.
- 1:13:52Are we talking about like the big pieces outside outdoor?
- 1:13:56I was a little disappointed when it's merely.
- 1:14:02a beaded cone tree.
- 1:14:06So I guess it's like a Christmas cone, like a little mini Christmas tree
- 1:14:11that's shaped like an ice cream cone.
- 1:14:13It's a stabbing device.
- 1:14:15And she stabbed essentially her sister in the left side of the torso
- 1:14:21with the Christmas cone due to some sort of altercation that they had.
- 1:14:25And there was that, but then further reading through the article, apparently
- 1:14:29there was another incident in Florida.
- 1:14:32Fights at Christmas time using Christmas decorations is a big thing.
- 1:14:36This one's even better.
- 1:14:37I think they said a similar incident similar.
- 1:14:41Okay.
- 1:14:41Well, and similar in that it's a Christmas decoration, but this is the
- 1:14:45kind of decoration I was looking for.
- 1:14:47Florida woman hit her boyfriend with sections of her family's
- 1:14:51artificial Christmas tree.
- 1:14:54It was sections of the Christmas tree.
- 1:14:57The woman's last name is Graham told the police the couple began
- 1:15:00arguing because her boyfriend had set quote the TV volume on too high
- 1:15:06while she was sleeping in response.
- 1:15:08She had quote.
- 1:15:10squared up to the victim and was screaming in his face.
- 1:15:13She admitted to the police that she, quote, took apart an artificial
- 1:15:17Christmas tree and threw three sections of the tree at the victim.
- 1:15:21Apparently, in Florida, you could weaponize anything.
- 1:15:24I mean, that takes...
- 1:15:27You had nothing else to go for?
- 1:15:28I mean, what was that guy doing while she's disassembling the Christmas tree?
- 1:15:32Or was it like rapid fire, like the Tasmanian devil?
- 1:15:34Was he just standing here and he's watching her take apart the Christmas
- 1:15:38tree and then he gets chucked in his face?
- 1:15:39I mean, how much of a dunce can you be?
- 1:15:41I don't know because regardless of a pre lit tree or not, I'm
- 1:15:45going to go out on a limb.
- 1:15:47You have lights strung around it.
- 1:15:49And if they're not pre lit, Well, even if they are, you
- 1:15:52got to disconnect the strands.
- 1:15:54If not, the whole tree is still like kind of together by virtue of the lights.
- 1:15:59And then you got the balls flying everywhere or whatever other
- 1:16:02hanging ornaments you have.
- 1:16:03I mean, what was that dude doing?
- 1:16:07He was, I don't understand.
- 1:16:08Please folks.
- 1:16:09Don't let your Christmas turn into this disaster.
- 1:16:11That's for sure.
- 1:16:12Please don't get a misdemeanor jail time on your record for throwing Christmas tree
- 1:16:17parts at your boyfriend or girlfriend.
- 1:16:18How does that 9 1 1 call go?
- 1:16:21Excuse me, Operator Batman, I've been assaulted by a Christmas tree.
- 1:16:24Like, seriously?
- 1:16:25Oh, who did it, Santa?
- 1:16:28Right?
- 1:16:28I mean, how do they even keep a straight face?
- 1:16:30Were you naughty this year?
- 1:16:33It's ridiculous.
- 1:16:35But here we go.
- 1:16:37Also saving the best for last.
- 1:16:40Let's move to Thanksgiving.
- 1:16:42You don't even need to read the rest of it.
- 1:16:44There's not even anything else to the article, honestly, because it's
- 1:16:48summed up in its entirety by the title.
- 1:16:50Florida man defrosts Thanksgiving turkey in swimming pool.
- 1:16:58What?
- 1:16:58Y'all be worried about, Oh, snap.
- 1:17:01I haven't taken my turkey out of the freezer yet.
- 1:17:03Thanksgiving's in two days.
- 1:17:04How will it ever defrost?
- 1:17:06No.
- 1:17:07You got a swimming pool in Florida.
- 1:17:08Throw that sucker in there.
- 1:17:09It takes just a few hours.
- 1:17:10Apparently the salmonella only takes a couple hours to, I mean,
- 1:17:16add that little extra something, something really in the hot tub, but
- 1:17:21then you'd end up cooking it quote.
- 1:17:24Turkey in the pool.
- 1:17:25That's how you do it.
- 1:17:26When you live in Florida, I didn't know that I've also never lived in Florida.
- 1:17:30We learned something new every month, every year, a different family member
- 1:17:36throws the turkey into the pool.
- 1:17:38I mean, that's tradition.
- 1:17:39I mean, that's almost slam dunk.
- 1:17:41Most people wonder, doesn't the chlorine get into your Turkey?
- 1:17:46That's just keeps it moist.
- 1:17:47He says, these bags are sealed by the factories.
- 1:17:50We've never had a leakage yet.
- 1:17:52Yeah.
- 1:17:52And no chlorine is in our turkey.
- 1:17:54All right.
- 1:17:55I mean, those turkey bags are pretty thick.
- 1:17:57So is the skull of the person doing this, but you know, hey, whatever.
- 1:18:01And please, people, before you get any ideas, the United States Department of
- 1:18:04Agriculture does recommend that there are three ways to safely thaw your turkey.
- 1:18:09One, in the refrigerator.
- 1:18:11Two, in cold water.
- 1:18:12Or three, apparently in the microwave.
- 1:18:14That sounds like a lot of work.
- 1:18:16All right.
- 1:18:19Well, thank goodness I don't like turkey.
- 1:18:23Well, now that we've spread a little holiday cheer.
- 1:18:25We wish Florida A very merry and safe holiday season this year.
- 1:18:31Absolutely.
- 1:18:32Keep it classy, Florida.
- 1:18:50Well, it's that time we go behind the pit wall and talk about motorsports
- 1:18:53news, but we're really not going to.
- 1:18:55We're going to talk about motorsports gifts, and we've kind of been doing that
- 1:18:58throughout the episode, but we forgot.
- 1:19:00Something special for our younger listeners, for our younger audience.
- 1:19:03You know what came out just in time for the holidays?
- 1:19:05Hopefully you've already bought your latest Xbox or upgraded
- 1:19:08your PC because Forza Motorsport number eight hit the shelves.
- 1:19:12It's just called Forza Motorsport.
- 1:19:15I know, but it's still the eighth one.
- 1:19:17Yes, it is the latest in the Forza Motorsport series packed with 650
- 1:19:23cars, all sorts of new tracks.
- 1:19:25It has a new kind of career mode, which has more of an
- 1:19:28RPG style progression system.
- 1:19:30Whether you like that or not, I'm a Forza fan.
- 1:19:33I'm ride or die.
- 1:19:34I'm getting a copy of it and I'm going to play it.
- 1:19:36I highly recommend checking it out.
- 1:19:38And I think it may be the jumping off.
- 1:19:40point for a GTM virtual racing league coming back.
- 1:19:44So if you're interested in partnering up with us or racing with us, give us
- 1:19:47a shout, but you got to get your copy of Forza Motorsport first, and at least
- 1:19:51get your licenses and get through, you know, the basic training in the game.
- 1:19:54So now that that's out, check it out.
- 1:19:55There's tons of other motors.
- 1:19:57Sports games out there, especially if you're in to sim racing, something
- 1:20:00else to consider upgrading your gear.
- 1:20:02What are you using for your pedal set?
- 1:20:04What do you have for steering wheels?
- 1:20:05I will say this.
- 1:20:06We have an upcoming episode where Brock Packard returns to co host with
- 1:20:10me, where we talked to Trevor Marks.
- 1:20:12From K53, who's partnering with Torque Motorsports in Atlanta to talk about
- 1:20:17their new sim racing program, what they have to offer and what K53 is doing
- 1:20:22to revolutionize the e sports world.
- 1:20:24So look forward to that in the future.
- 1:20:25Lots of stuff out there going on right now.
- 1:20:28Lots of great sales in the IT world, checking out websites like
- 1:20:31Amazon, like Newegg, like Best Buy.
- 1:20:33Now's the time to get your gear upgraded so that you can play and
- 1:20:37support the latest version of Forza.
- 1:20:39And don't forget, if you're looking to give someone the gift,
- 1:20:42a gift that will continue to give, think about club memberships.
- 1:20:46And how about a membership to one of the oldest car clubs in the world?
- 1:20:50For a whopping 50 euros, you could have become a member of
- 1:20:54the Automobile Club of the West.
- 1:20:56The ACO has started their own U.
- 1:20:59S.
- 1:20:59region.
- 1:20:59Pretty awesome.
- 1:21:00You get a 40 percent discount on schwag and other things.
- 1:21:04And let's listen to what David Lowe, president of the ACO USA, has to
- 1:21:08say about their membership package.
- 1:21:10You definitely want to.
- 1:21:12Take advantage of what the members club has to offer.
- 1:21:15Got a lot to offer.
- 1:21:16Like you talked about the, uh, ACO Tribune, 1718.
- 1:21:20That's my go to Tribune.
- 1:21:22Purchase access to La Chapelle, which is incredible, uh, hospitality facility
- 1:21:27located there, uh, just beyond the Dunlop bridge, which is an incredible,
- 1:21:31uh, Viewing of Tetra Rouge, you know, cars coming through the Dunlop.
- 1:21:35It's a great place to view as well as the hospitality tents area.
- 1:21:38Honestly, the big screen TVs give you the best view.
- 1:21:42They're just these huge screens and you hear the sound right there and you
- 1:21:46see them right now on the big screen.
- 1:21:47So it's a, it's a wonderful place.
- 1:21:49Plan to go for a week.
- 1:21:50If you only go for the day of the race, you're going to miss a lot.
- 1:21:52You need to.
- 1:21:53Kind of watch the race come alive.
- 1:21:55The pits get built out and you want to get a paddock pass.
- 1:21:59Might cost you a few extra dollars.
- 1:22:00You want to do that with the club.
- 1:22:01So you've got access to La Chapelle and the members areas there at T17.
- 1:22:06So, but in the meantime, throughout the year, as we build up, you've
- 1:22:09got these events that we're putting together around the country.
- 1:22:11Got the zoom meetings each month, evening with a legend, which.
- 1:22:15Absolutely are incredible.
- 1:22:16We're open to suggestions.
- 1:22:18A lot of the ideas we get come from volunteers that actually set it up for us.
- 1:22:22We have a lot of past presidents from other car clubs that are members that
- 1:22:26provide good sound wisdom and guidance for us as we grow our wings, if you will.
- 1:22:31So Reuben, not only are you right hand man to David, part of the board, you know,
- 1:22:35making all this stuff happen at the ACO USA, you're also in charge of social media
- 1:22:40marketing, all that you run the ACO USA Facebook group, which is for members only.
- 1:22:45And then you have the night with the legends.
- 1:22:47Do you want to expand upon that and explain to people like what all those
- 1:22:50different pieces are really about?
- 1:22:52The Facebook group was my idea to get to people that don't read the newsletter,
- 1:22:55because a lot of times you get an email, don't open it, we get so much spam,
- 1:22:59you know, just another Avenue, we get the message out, whatever we put in the
- 1:23:03newsletter, I'll put on, on the Facebook group, whatever comes from Lamont as
- 1:23:07well, I'll put there so we can have a daily reminder of something it keeps.
- 1:23:11Lamont's whack in the people's mind.
- 1:23:13I'll come up with stuff, you know, that I'll pull up from all over, you know,
- 1:23:17before the hundred, there was so many events, you know, a chocolate event
- 1:23:20at Lamont's that did chocolate, that track and all kinds of unique things.
- 1:23:24So I'll put that in there to bring that flavor because our vision is
- 1:23:28for the people that can never get to Lamont, we want to bring Lamont
- 1:23:31to them and bring it to them on a daily or weekly basis, you know, and
- 1:23:34the monthly zoom, you know, again.
- 1:23:36Access to a legend.
- 1:23:37Some of these legends, you know, their days are numbered the ones in
- 1:23:40the seventies and so forth, you know, the, the bells, the Redmonds and so,
- 1:23:44you know, dreadies, I mean, they're in their eighties plus, so it's
- 1:23:47building that connection with them.
- 1:23:49Then, you know, they may like me when I was there, I saw them, but I didn't
- 1:23:53get to talk to them, you know, now, later on, I'm, I'm catching up, I guess.
- 1:23:57By doing this, and I love it, you know, chasing them down to do the zoom
- 1:24:01and really get into their story, how they felt in the car, you know, good
- 1:24:05or bad because Lamont, you know, you don't win Lamont, Lamont chooses you.
- 1:24:08So everybody's got a story there for sure.
- 1:24:11And, you know, and I just want to get that out to people that
- 1:24:13want to hear it from our legends.
- 1:24:15So those are the things that we're planning.
- 1:24:17You know, bringing people in, access to some of these legends.
- 1:24:21There might be heroes for them.
- 1:24:22They know their story, but they never met in person because in a race track,
- 1:24:26it's probably won't ever meet them.
- 1:24:27So it has to be some of these social events, meetups, and this
- 1:24:30is what we're bringing to people.
- 1:24:31You know, whatever we can put together.
- 1:24:34That's good to know.
- 1:24:35I'll definitely be getting on board.
- 1:24:36It sounds like a great.
- 1:24:38Group of people.
- 1:24:39And they're still actually running clearance sales on selected sizes and
- 1:24:42stuff that's left over from Le Mans.
- 1:24:43You can actually save a boatload, especially if you're an ACO
- 1:24:46member on any of the schwag.
- 1:24:48Do we have any Christmas wishes this year?
- 1:24:51Pipe dream wishes?
- 1:24:51Yeah, wishes for the world.
- 1:24:53Puppies, 100 grand.
- 1:24:54Oh, wishes for the world.
- 1:24:55Oh, yes.
- 1:24:56Okay.
- 1:24:57Yes, many.
- 1:24:58For people to be good.
- 1:24:59World peace.
- 1:25:01The world, yeah.
- 1:25:01You know what I wish for though?
- 1:25:03This is my Christmas wish.
- 1:25:04I hope that by the new year.
- 1:25:07Michael Andretti will be allowed to have his Formula One team.
- 1:25:11You've heard that Cadillac is going to be an engine manufacturer in
- 1:25:142028, supposedly the latest rumor or the latest late breaking news.
- 1:25:18Cadillac Andretti with Cadillac providing motors.
- 1:25:21A wish come true.
- 1:25:22I wish the best for the Andretti family, and I hope they make
- 1:25:25their F1 dreams come true.
- 1:25:28Our motorsports news is brought to us always in partnership with
- 1:25:31the International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen.
- 1:25:34And what better gift than the opportunity to win a brand new 2024 Corvette E Ray.
- 1:25:41The sweepstakes for the Corvette are still happening.
- 1:25:44They're continuing through April when the drawing will happen.
- 1:25:47You can win the Corvette or take home a 50, 000 cash prize.
- 1:25:51Any proceeds go to help continue supporting the IMRRC and keeping it going.
- 1:25:56Thank you for https: otter.
- 1:25:57ai The archives, everything that goes on, they're an invaluable resource
- 1:26:01in the motorsports community.
- 1:26:03And they're heralded for many different things to include their annual art
- 1:26:06singer symposium in the fall and lots of other events that they put on.
- 1:26:10But not only do they have all this available for folks.
- 1:26:14But the IMRC is a great place to also shop for gifts.
- 1:26:18They have a lot of stuff in their gift shop, autograph things by
- 1:26:21professional drivers, memorabilia.
- 1:26:23They've got a couple auction items going on right now, like a
- 1:26:25Daytona Coop one 18 scale model, a Maserati, a Williams Formula car.
- 1:26:30A lot of this stuff.
- 1:26:31We have those listed on garage style magazine's, auction
- 1:26:34listing page right now.
- 1:26:35You can also check out racing archives for that.
- 1:26:37You can pick up Bob Gillespie's art calendar.
- 1:26:40You can pick up DVDs of earlier center conversations, which are great
- 1:26:45talks that were given at the center.
- 1:26:47Again, these are like five, six, seven bucks a piece.
- 1:26:49Some of them are two parters and you can relive the history, relive the
- 1:26:53magic of some of these presentations and money goes to support the IMRC.
- 1:26:58But more importantly, one of the.
- 1:27:01honorary members of the Society of Automotive Historians who partners
- 1:27:04with the IMRRC, Joe Freeman, who we showcased one of his episodes on the show
- 1:27:09earlier this year around Indy 500 Time called Second to One All But for Indy.
- 1:27:14He's the owner of Racemaker Press.
- 1:27:16He's a long time participant and presenter at the Argett Singer Symposium,
- 1:27:22and he just recently made a donation of books to the IMRRC, 150 new copies
- 1:27:29of Joel Flynn's Racing history books that were published from 1995 to 2007.
- 1:27:34I have a couple copies myself.
- 1:27:35One of them is American Road Racing from 1948 to 1950.
- 1:27:40This is a 425 page book full of black and white color photographs,
- 1:27:45memorabilia, advertisements from back in the day surrounding
- 1:27:49sports car from a two year period.
- 1:27:51I mean, this is a Tome, if there ever was one, an incredible book, beautiful book.
- 1:27:55Another one has to do with the history of Bridgehampton.
- 1:27:58That's very specific if you're from the Northeast.
- 1:28:01But another one is American Road Racing in the 1930s.
- 1:28:04Some of the pictures in this have been digitally remastered and recolored.
- 1:28:07So you can see them as if they were taken in color and not in black and white.
- 1:28:10Another gorgeous book, another pictorial book, but lots of history,
- 1:28:14lots of great stories in here.
- 1:28:16Again, advertisements and things you just won't find anywhere else.
- 1:28:19And a lot of this.
- 1:28:21Material comes through research and organizations like the SAH and the IMRRC.
- 1:28:26You can pick up any of these books today.
- 1:28:28You'll reach out to Kip Zeider, so kip at racingarchives.
- 1:28:31org, and they're for sale for 20 each.
- 1:28:35Proceeds of the books go to help support the IMRRC, but what a bargain.
- 1:28:38These would retail for much, much more if you were to buy them at any other
- 1:28:43time, but 20 for a book like this, even if you just leave it on your coffee
- 1:28:46table and somebody thumbs through it, what an amazing, amazing gift to give.
- 1:28:50A beautiful looking book.
- 1:28:51Well, it looks like we have some upcoming holiday events still on the calendar.

- 1:29:47anything to talk about on the HPDE Junkie.
- 1:29:50com trackside report.
- 1:29:51But you know what?
- 1:29:52You'd be wrong.
- 1:29:53Because Dave Peters and the crew from HPDE Junkie.
- 1:29:55com would like to extend some discounts to all their followers.
- 1:29:58You can use code HPDEJUNKIE at checkout or call Linda and mention HPDE JUNKIE
- 1:30:04when you're buying from Apex Performance to receive 10 percent off your purchase.
- 1:30:08And you can also save 10 percent with Glock Breaks by mentioning
- 1:30:12HPD Junkie when you call 1 844 9 BREAKS on your next order.
- 1:30:18Bear in mind that there is still a road closure on route 340 to Summit Point that
- 1:30:22extends through the middle of December.
- 1:30:24They're doing a rock slide repair project.
- 1:30:26So if you are headed out to the famous Turkey Bowl at Summit Point
- 1:30:31here in the months of December.
- 1:30:32Be sure to check out us three 40 Harper's ferry.
- 1:30:35com.
- 1:30:35So you can plan an alternate route, check up on any road openings.
- 1:30:39Just make sure to stay safe.
- 1:30:41If you're going out there.
- 1:30:42Meanwhile, New Jersey motor sports park is giving away the gift of speed.
- 1:30:45They have an exclusive gift for the holiday season.
- 1:30:48They are credit gift cards to be used towards any 2024 NJMP track
- 1:30:53day, carding event, driver's club.
- 1:30:56Or riders club.
- 1:30:57So you can purchase the gift of speed now through motorsports reg they're
- 1:31:01available through the 31st of December.
- 1:31:03So if you're planning to go to NJMP next year, especially after the new
- 1:31:07repave of Thunderbolt, you got to get out there, set some new track records,
- 1:31:11whether it's in your car or on your bike.
- 1:31:12Get those gift cards, get that advanced access to NJMP now.
- 1:31:16And here are some other promos from some leading high performance
- 1:31:20driver's education providers.
- 1:31:22Every year for a week in December, this year it'll be the 9th through the 16th.
- 1:31:27And one week in January, we have our frequent driver program where you can
- 1:31:31buy a hooked on driving credit that adds.
- 1:31:33A good percentage to what you're purchasing on that never expires.
- 1:31:36So if you have money left over in your budget from work and you
- 1:31:39need that advertising money, put it towards the end of the day.
- 1:31:42If you want to spend it at the beginning of the year, buy it in January.
- 1:31:45We're all good with that.
- 1:31:46Thank you.
- 1:31:47Every year Auto Interest sells promotional value gift cards for Black Friday.
- 1:31:51So if you check out our website in the weeks...
- 1:31:54Leading up to and right through Black Friday, you can buy a gift card and
- 1:31:59pay less than face value for it.
- 1:32:01So that's our annual promotion to check out for the holidays and
- 1:32:04that's auto interest with the nas.
- 1:32:06com.
- 1:32:07Well, the other thing from NAS is I would say that at Hyper Fest, if you want to
- 1:32:10come out, if you're not exactly sure whether you want to get on track, it's
- 1:32:13something that you just want to try.
- 1:32:15We have something called.
- 1:32:16Hyperdrives, which is basically a single session HPD E because we
- 1:32:21start with HPD one right from the very beginning and have a ladder
- 1:32:24up through time trials and racing.
- 1:32:26And if you just not sure if you want to get out, but you want to try
- 1:32:29out for a low impact time, but with one of our certified instructors.
- 1:32:33For 80 bucks, you can get on the track and do a 20 minute session.
- 1:32:36And it's a taste test of what we do.
- 1:32:38And it's very low impact.
- 1:32:40So if somebody wanted to check that out, they would just need to come to
- 1:32:43any one of the NASA events, actually in mid Atlantic run hyperdrive
- 1:32:46sessions, but we have a lot of them at hyperfest May 17th, the 19th at VIR.
- 1:32:54In case you missed out, check out the other podcast
- 1:32:56episodes that aired this month.
