- 0:20Night show you. So, my name's Billy Jade. I have a new
- 0:29debut EP out this Friday called eleven eleven, which was like produced by Mitch
- 0:37Marlow. So he's done bands such as New Year's Day in this moment,
- 0:43Stitched Up Heart, a lot of female fronted heavy metal. So yeah,
- 0:48I'm really excited to show the world. Yeahful Jane, thanks for joining us
- 0:53today. I've got to say you're a bundle of joy. Some people I
- 0:58talk to you on here that you're so maroa and going through the motions so
- 1:03much. So you're releasing your debut EP, eleven eleven on this Friday,
- 1:10April the nineteenth, which is only a couple of days away, mate,
- 1:12So how you feel and you You're nervous, You're anxious, excited, happy,
- 1:15sad, all of the above. I'm so excited. This has been
- 1:19a long time in the making. I did try to go over for another
- 1:23writing session during COVID and got sent back, So it's been a long time
- 1:30and I'm just so excited to put out the ideas. There was one song,
- 1:37one track I wrote in a writing session with Mitch when I first met
- 1:41him, which is Scream. So that's the first track on the EP and
- 1:46the rest I wrote with him later on, But I'm just so excited to
- 1:51get all those ideas together out together as an EP. So yeah, the
- 1:57first release called the EP unapologetically honest and raw. Would you agree with that?
- 2:01And why? Yeah, I think it's just me. Like I I
- 2:07think I'm a very honest and raw person, like when I'm talking, like
- 2:12if you get to know me, that's the way I am. So I
- 2:14think it's a little bit of my personality in there, a little bit of
- 2:17a diva attitude. I'd say it for heavy metal. So I guess,
- 2:23you know, like I'm trying to bring across something that's a little bit more
- 2:29honest and raw than a lot of the stuff that is being played because I
- 2:31think a lot of it is just a recycling of ideas. So I'm trying
- 2:36to think of, like I guess on the last writing sessions, I was
- 2:38trying to think of ideas that haven't really been put out there or I always
- 2:44have little ideas that you know, grow, So yeah, where you're coming
- 2:49from with honestly, Like I tell people, if you don't want the answer
- 2:53to a question, don't ask me, because really the ship but say's a
- 2:58lot of hassle. Yeah, exactly tells a bit more about eleven eleven musically
- 3:05and what you're going for with it. Yeah, I guess I'm really into
- 3:08the modern metal sound. I know a lot of people do love the old
- 3:13school metal, which I'm a big fan of as well. But with Mitch,
- 3:16he writes a lot of that kind of hard hitting, big choruses,
- 3:23you know, does his own mixing of things, and yes, it's definitely
- 3:28got I guess my own twist to his sound. So he has that modern
- 3:32metal sound. I love that modern metal metal sound. That's why I work
- 3:36with him. And also I have, I guess a bit of a blues
- 3:40element to my voice, so he kind of picked that up in the first
- 3:45song, Scream, and he wanted to incorporate it straight away, so he
- 3:49did in the chorus He's like singing that like with a bit of swing,
- 3:51you know. So it was it was really cool to work with him and
- 3:57him embraced the elements that he could see came naturally from me. So yeah,
- 4:03I didn't have this as a question, but it's just sort of come
- 4:06up now. Like you mentioned Mitch your producer quite a few times, and
- 4:10the band between Advansity's work with But a lot of people outside of music wouldn't
- 4:14understand, like how important is the right producer in making your record the way
- 4:18it should be. It's everything, Like I know from where I've come from.
- 4:24Being my first single, I did the recording on my own, so
- 4:30it was me playing guitar, bass, vocals, keys, and my brother
- 4:33on the drums. And you know, as much as I love that process,
- 4:39because it was a really big tick on achieving something, Uh, it
- 4:43was hard work and to get the sound that I wanted was I would say,
- 4:47almost impossible. So I think to have someone who sees your vision and
- 4:54bring it to life with you is so important in them to understand you as
- 4:58an artist, isn't Like I've worked with big producers before, and yeah,
- 5:03them to understand you as an artist and your strengths is like so important,
- 5:09very true. I highly recommend. I Actually remember I was talking with Alice
- 5:14Cooper once and he was talking about his producers, and at the end of
- 5:15it, I asked him for for a couple of chips I think for uh
- 5:20the top three commandments of metal I think it was, And what first one
- 5:24he said was listen to your producer because he's there for a reason. And
- 5:30as much as you don't want to sometimes they're always right. I don't want
- 5:36to hear it, but it's true. Well you can't tell yourself sometimes.
- 5:42Now there's there's songs on the exactly. So we've only got four songs on
- 5:46the EP, as you said, so I want to run through them one
- 5:49time and you can tell us a bit more about the song. So it
- 5:53starts off with Yeah, scream. That was the first song we wrote together
- 6:00and it did take about an hour. I already had a concept for the
- 6:03song. It's a very sexually empowering song. I love it. It's hard
- 6:11hitting, big chorus. Yeah, definitely one of my favorites. And yeah,
- 6:18it was. It was definitely. I think it's I think it's the
- 6:23song that metal needs. It needs a you know, a little bit of
- 6:26an almost hip hop lyrical edge, a bit of attitude. Yeah, it's
- 6:34second. U you've got a cover of the James Brown song It's the Man's
- 6:38Man's World, which is an interesting choice a cover, but it's also definitely
- 6:42and tastefully done. So tell us about that, and yeah, I chose
- 6:46that song. I My mum's actually a professional singer. I've been listening to
- 6:51her since I was a kid, and that's actually my favorite song that I've
- 6:56ever heard her sing. So it's like, I guess, a homage to
- 7:00my mum. But also every time i've heard it, I just thought,
- 7:05damn, that'd be cool if it was a metal song I had a woman
- 7:11singing it. Yeah, exactly, So I guess that's the you know,
- 7:16thought behind it. It's a really well I like the way you've done it,
- 7:19like you've changed the original but you've still respected it. So I've done
- 7:24it really well. Thank you so much. Next to the song that I'm
- 7:29not even going to try to pronounce, but it's got the capital letter is
- 7:30d G A F A Y. Firstly, tell us what that stands for,
- 7:34then tell us more about the song. If I can swear, it's
- 7:39don't give a fuck about You? I got don't give a part right,
- 7:44But I wasn't going to say that because I wasn't sure in front of you.
- 7:46But I've been sitting there all morning going what what can I stand for?
- 7:50And so you put it into a love song of sorts. It's any
- 7:55love song definitely, but that one. Yeah, I've had an idea for
- 8:01a while to write a song like that that's a bit like, I guess,
- 8:05you know, just a tongue in cheek kind of kind of anthem.
- 8:11So that's what it is. I went through a terrible breakup before I wrote
- 8:16that. Songs empowered by that complete the EP with the track no Way Out.
- 8:26M M yeah, that one. That one's a bit of a lyrical
- 8:28twist to it. So the song itself, I would say, with more
- 8:33radio friendly, a bit of a power anthem. But the song is basically
- 8:41a twist on what you think it's about. So No Way Out is basically
- 8:46thinking, you know, I guess people when they hear no Way Out are
- 8:50thinking there's no way out for them. But the song is actually about being
- 8:54in some kind of abusive a relationship. And the twist is that what it's
- 9:00saying is like, thank you to those people, because if you leave you,
- 9:07they have no way out from themselves. You're free. So I guess
- 9:11it's trying to empower people in those situations to like see the way out.
- 9:16Good now. Yeah, there's no song on their card eleven eleven, which
- 9:20means the title has got greater significance, So tell us, tell us what
- 9:22it is. Yeah. So I I actually lost my father two years ago,
- 9:28which was around when all this was coming together. I kind of fell
- 9:33apart. But strangely, everything happened at the perfect time, and it just
- 9:37kept popping up on the clock eleven eleven, eleven eleven, and my dad
- 9:43said to me, He's like, I know, I know this is hard.
- 9:46Like before he passed away, he said, I know this is hard
- 9:48for you, but I need you to finish that fucking music. Yeah,
- 9:54motivation, so you know, like I guess it's like a bit of a
- 10:01you know, ode to my dad kind of thing. But also the message
- 10:05that I was getting was eleven eleven, eleven eleven. Everywhere. It was
- 10:07like I couldn't escape. You know, the clock was telling you it's time.
- 10:11It's time. So why did you change it to Roman numerals? And
- 10:16there's got to be a story behind that too. I just love the look
- 10:18of them. Really, it's a fuck out of people, so you enjoy
- 10:22doing that. Everyone's confused, but I think there was also a lot of
- 10:30songs called eleven eleven EPs things like that before, so I wanted it to
- 10:33be unique. It definitely makes you stand out. Well, yeah, thank
- 10:37you. Thanks Chris, So we run through all four of the songs individually
- 10:41on eleven eleven. So overall, how would you sum up the album musically?
- 10:46I would say it's definitely a journey for four songs. It's pretty hard
- 10:50hitting it, you know, like it's a ride for sure. I'd say
- 10:56it's powerful and I think it's definitely brings something unique, especially to Australia.
- 11:03I know a lot of girls in America are doing kind of solo things like
- 11:07poppy and things like that, but there isn't really anyone in Australia who's coming
- 11:13to the surface with that stuff. So I would love to, you know,
- 11:18I guess show show that we can do that here too, bring bring
- 11:22forth the solo female artists, and yeah, and I think the I guess
- 11:28musically it's it's pretty strong in all aspects. And yeah, I can't wait
- 11:35to do more. Really very nice. And have you got any launch shows
- 11:37played or any any chores coming up? Not yet. I definitely will have
- 11:45some shows coming up in the future, but at the moment it's just me.
- 11:48My brother plays drums for me, so he's always on call, and
- 11:52my best friend plays guitar for me. So I'm very lucky in that respect
- 11:58that I can call on them any time I need and you know family's not
- 12:01going to let you down as well. Yeah yeah if they do. So,
- 12:07if anyone wants to get themselves on a hold of the copy or pre
- 12:11order it before it comes out, where do they go? I'd definitely jump
- 12:13onto. There's a link in my bio on Instagram for the to pre save
- 12:18it, so you can pre save it on Spotify, any digital music outlet.
- 12:24It's there to pre save. So I've got the link on Facebook,
- 12:28Instagram and it'll basically be out in a few days now, which is crazy
- 12:35made it is. Best of luck with it. I've been honest, I've
- 12:37only listened to half of it so far before this, but I really enjoyed
- 12:41what I did here, so I'll be listening to the rest of it.
- 12:41But eleven eleven is out this Friday, April nineteenth, and get behind your
- 12:46local artists. Mate, good on you. It sounds like you're doing it
- 12:50so much. Chris, appreciate it uside I show you just to feed the
- 13:16obsession, because I teach you just to cure the oppression. Takes a submissive
- 13:26deep press makes it's a pleasure in suitcase. Let me show you. I'm
- 13:37gonna make you. I'm gonna make you down when if you're gonna go get
- 13:46yourself, I'm gonna make you somebody you thank God and give him. Thank
- 14:09you getting yourself. So see I'm tempting. This is what you have been
- 14:22missing. Say, I can't help it. Submit. You're in my possession,
- 14:31my bay to my lover inside. Okay turns intoo vesons to hey.
- 14:37So I'm gonna make you. I'm gonna make you sound when God, I'm
- 14:50getting yourself, make you. Don't you thank you? If you got God,
- 15:03I'm giving yourself. I'm gonna make you give me yourself something you got
- 15:31God, I'm giving yourself something. I'm gonna make you scream. I'm gonna
- 15:43make you. I'm gonna make you. I'm gonna make you down with me.
- 15:56You got God, I'm giving said, I'm going to make you.
- 16:04I don't want to be mating you. Thank you. You got to go
