- 1:50Speaker 2: Barbecue Fest, which is happened. It's like Plaza downtown. All

- 2:10Speaker 2: possible thunderstorms roll in after that. Mid seventies tomorrow and
- 2:13Speaker 2: some lingering showers around on Thursday. It's going to turn
- 2:15Speaker 2: cooler as we head towards the end of the week.
- 2:18Speaker 2: You can download the Metro News TV app and follow
- 2:20Speaker 2: Brian on Facebook for the latest weather info. We've told
- 2:25Speaker 2: you about the closing of the Kroger location in Dunbar
- 2:28Speaker 2: making way for the new one in South Charleston. How
- 2:31Speaker 2: many Kroger shoppers are wondering what that's going to mean
- 2:33Speaker 2: for them. Delegate Hollis Lewis serves the area as the
- 2:37Speaker 2: representative out of a district fifty seven. Editors note he
- 2:40Speaker 2: is running unopposed in today's primary election, so he's not
- 2:43Speaker 2: here campaigning. He's here in his delegate roll in a
- 2:45Speaker 2: community role. How you doing, my friend, Welcome to the show.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I am doing excellent. Thank you for having me on today.
- 2:51Speaker 2: The Dunbar Kroger now closed. And while it's great that
- 2:57Speaker 2: this new one is being built and is going to open,
- 2:59Speaker 2: up soon South Charleston at the new park Place. There
- 3:01Speaker 2: are some residents of Dunbar and you and I talked
- 3:03Speaker 2: about it on the Midday Show not long ago. There's
- 3:05Speaker 2: some residents of Dunbar have a a little bit of
- 3:08Speaker 2: trepidational heartburn over this.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Yes, and first I want to say, like you know,
- 3:13Speaker 5: the marketplace opening in South Charleston, it's going to be
- 3:16Speaker 5: a great thing for the community overall. If you've ever
- 3:18Speaker 5: been to a marketplace in Columbus or Cincinnati, you know
- 3:22Speaker 5: that the variety of products that they can offer is
- 3:25Speaker 5: a good thing. And I do most of my shopping
- 3:27Speaker 5: at Krogers. But far as the citizens of Dunbar is concerned,
- 3:31Speaker 5: you know it's going to be It's going to be
- 3:33Speaker 5: a hit.
- 3:33Speaker 4: You know.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Not only does it serve as far as groceries are concerned,
- 3:37Speaker 5: but there's the pharmacies, there's the bill pay and a
- 3:40Speaker 5: lot of other services that Kroger provides not only for constituents,
- 3:44Speaker 5: but also just for that plaza and for the city
- 3:47Speaker 5: of Dunbar. In addition, we do have several senior community
- 3:50Speaker 5: living facilities in close proximity to that Krogers that those
- 3:56Speaker 5: seniors would be able to walk to. And if you've
- 3:58Speaker 5: ever been to Dunbar spending any time, often see people
- 4:00Speaker 5: walking back and forth across tenth Street to go to
- 4:04Speaker 5: that dumbar. So it is going to be you know,
- 4:07Speaker 5: effect on our community. Not to mention the being old
- 4:10Speaker 5: taxes that the city of Dunbar will now not be
- 4:13Speaker 5: able to utilize.
- 4:14Speaker 2: And what kind of ballpark figure we talking with does
- 4:16Speaker 2: being old taxes.
- 4:18Speaker 4: It's pretty significant.
- 4:19Speaker 5: You're talking close to a million dollars and being ol
- 4:22Speaker 5: taxi for a city the size of Dunbar, that's a
- 4:24Speaker 5: stiff economic hit.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And I know you and others have had discussions about
- 4:31Speaker 2: trying to get another grocery store to come into Dunbar.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I heard I think our news Bar caught up with
- 4:37Speaker 2: the mayor there and he did an interview about that.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Do you have any idea how that search is going?
- 4:41Speaker 6: Well?
- 4:42Speaker 5: Yeah, the city they've been working hard for the last
- 4:45Speaker 5: maybe close to a year since they got the news
- 4:47Speaker 5: to try to reach out to other grocers to see
- 4:51Speaker 5: if they would be interested in coming too the area.
- 4:54Speaker 5: You know, myself, a couple other delegates, a couple other
- 4:57Speaker 5: senators in addition to the city officials in Dunbar and
- 5:01Speaker 5: the Charleston Area Alliance have been working out and reaching
- 5:04Speaker 5: out to Center Capitol to work with Kroger's, to work
- 5:07Speaker 5: with the landowner, and to reach out to other groceries
- 5:10Speaker 5: to see if it would be, you know, economically viable
- 5:13Speaker 5: for them to come into the area.
- 5:14Speaker 2: But now there are other grocery stores in the area.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I mean because last time I talked to you, I
- 5:18Speaker 2: think somebody sent me a text about Aldi is there.
- 5:20Speaker 5: But yeah, all these is there. We have Dollar Journal,
- 5:24Speaker 5: we have Cvs and Walgreens. And I think the problem
- 5:27Speaker 5: is is that you know, all these is great. I
- 5:29Speaker 5: do some shopping there. However, if you've ever been in there,
- 5:32Speaker 5: they have a limited a variety of products. The products
- 5:35Speaker 5: rotating change depending on you know, their orders, so the
- 5:39Speaker 5: familiar arity of products are not going to be the
- 5:42Speaker 5: same as Kroger's. In addition, as I mentioned previously, Kroger's
- 5:45Speaker 5: now it's kind of a one stop shop right where
- 5:48Speaker 5: you have the pharmacy, you have bill Pay lottery, you
- 5:51Speaker 5: can get other products, and you also have the grocery store.
- 5:55Speaker 5: In addition, when we talk about the Kruggers, it's sort
- 5:58Speaker 5: of like the lynch pin. It's sort of like the
- 6:00Speaker 5: primary business for that plaza, which would provide the foot
- 6:04Speaker 5: traffic to you know, feed other business in the other area.
- 6:08Speaker 5: And we've seen you know, several other business in that plaza.
- 6:12Speaker 5: One moved, a couple are closing down, so it's having
- 6:15Speaker 5: a you know effect beyond.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Temper ripple effect.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yeah, in addition to the gas station too.
- 6:21Speaker 2: We're talking to you, Delegate Hollis Lewis for Dave Island
- 6:23Speaker 2: Show on five eighty line is brought to you in
- 6:24Speaker 2: part by the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds are at home tonight.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Go Ballpark two dollars Tuesday, two dollars game tickets, hot dogs,
- 6:31Speaker 2: water or soda, and mini golf as the Birds will
- 6:33Speaker 2: take on Lexington and get your tickets now at Dirty
- 6:35Speaker 2: Birds Baseball dot com. Now, it has been said to me,
- 6:38Speaker 2: and you've been in negotiations, you know a lot more
- 6:40Speaker 2: this than I do. But it was said to me
- 6:43Speaker 2: that the Kroger I guess the corporation holds the lease
- 6:46Speaker 2: on the building. Yeah, and that they aren't giving it up.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Is that Well, we've been talking to officials at Kroger's
- 6:53Speaker 5: and those officials are willing to work, Okay, so they're
- 6:56Speaker 5: they're not. You know that they're not now even the
- 7:00Speaker 5: fact that what's going on to the community, and they
- 7:02Speaker 5: understand the effect Crogres's is going to have by moving
- 7:05Speaker 5: out of the community. So they've been able to they've
- 7:08Speaker 5: been flexible.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Okay, well, and I will say that you know, we've
- 7:11Speaker 2: talked about this with reporting not. If anybody from Kroger
- 7:14Speaker 2: would want to issue a statement or come on the
- 7:15Speaker 2: air with us, you know, they're more than welcome to
- 7:17Speaker 2: because it's my it's been my experience in the past
- 7:20Speaker 2: and various community that Kroger does tend to be a
- 7:22Speaker 2: good community partner.
- 7:23Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 7:24Speaker 5: And uh, you know Mara, she's the CEO at Charcon
- 7:28Speaker 5: Area Alliance.
- 7:29Speaker 4: When she was with Senator.
- 7:33Speaker 5: She did this happened in other communities, and Krogress has
- 7:36Speaker 5: been very you know friendly to communities and they understand
- 7:39Speaker 5: the plight that you know, a grocery store can have
- 7:41Speaker 5: when they leave.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know it's especially with it's going to
- 7:47Speaker 2: sound very ageist when I say this, but but but
- 7:49Speaker 2: I mean our older population, of which by the way,
- 7:52Speaker 2: I'm I'm one, Uh kind of get into the habits
- 7:56Speaker 2: of you know, the you know, the every especially if
- 7:58Speaker 2: they're retired. Everything kind of you know, centers around the
- 8:02Speaker 2: trips to the grocery store off and so on and
- 8:05Speaker 2: so forth.
- 8:05Speaker 5: So yeah, in addition, you know, like Krugers has extended hours,
- 8:08Speaker 5: so they open up I believe six to seven am.
- 8:11Speaker 4: They close around ten or eleven.
- 8:12Speaker 5: So again, other grocery stores in the area and Dunbar
- 8:16Speaker 5: they don't have those hours. So you know, it's going
- 8:19Speaker 5: to have in a ripple effect in addition to people
- 8:21Speaker 5: not having you know, reliable transportation. We've seen the price
- 8:24Speaker 5: of gas. A lot of people are choosing a walk
- 8:26Speaker 5: because you have the neighborhoods in such close proximity to
- 8:28Speaker 5: that Krogers, So you know, like like you said, it's
- 8:31Speaker 5: going to have that ripple effect.
- 8:33Speaker 2: We had a text here, I don't think you'd mind
- 8:35Speaker 2: me reading this. What about the new bridge location in
- 8:38Speaker 2: regards to that building.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Again, I've heard that I haven't heard any specifics about
- 8:43Speaker 5: when that bridge is going to be potentially being knockdown
- 8:46Speaker 5: in another one erected, so don't I don't know specifics
- 8:50Speaker 5: on that currently.
- 8:51Speaker 2: We had another text for your popular Guide. It is
- 8:53Speaker 2: It says, please ask codl Us if he's aware of
- 8:55Speaker 2: any plans to close West Side Kroger Charleston City Council.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Folks from that side of town haven't heard anything that
- 9:02Speaker 2: would kill our neighborhoods and create a huge food desert.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I haven't heard.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I haven't heard anything about that. It's good.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'm almost hesit to even bring that up, because that
- 9:11Speaker 2: gets people, you know, going, yeah, I have I haven't heard.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Anything anything like that.
- 9:14Speaker 5: And again, I don't think that would be even you know, logistically,
- 9:18Speaker 5: we need that covers over there.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Again, we're talking with Delegate Hollis Lewis, and and again
- 9:24Speaker 2: we're hoping that it's hoping that something could be worked
- 9:26Speaker 2: out because one of the things that I like about
- 9:29Speaker 2: what you folks are trying to do over there in
- 9:31Speaker 2: a bad situation. Uh, And look, it's a positive situation
- 9:34Speaker 2: from the city of South Charleston one hundred percent. Don't
- 9:36Speaker 2: get me wrong. But you're focused on maybe the people
- 9:39Speaker 2: that can't that don't necessarily have the access to go there.
- 9:42Speaker 2: But you've got a wide variety of people. I mean,
- 9:44Speaker 2: you got Republicans, Democrats, people from you know, the city
- 9:48Speaker 2: of Dunbar. You mentioned, Maar with the folks with Charleston
- 9:51Speaker 2: area allies. Everybody's working together on this.
- 9:53Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
- 9:53Speaker 5: That is a bipartisan effort, and I often say we
- 9:56Speaker 5: have probably more in common than we do, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 5: than we disagree about, you know, particularly when it becomes
- 10:01Speaker 5: to issues like this, And it's good that we can
- 10:03Speaker 5: you know, set other issues aside in a rally behind
- 10:07Speaker 5: something like this, because I think you know, where Dunbar
- 10:10Speaker 5: is located. It's an important city, you know, particularly what's
- 10:13Speaker 5: happening at Shawnee and different things of that nature. So
- 10:16Speaker 5: we have to ensure that that city is viable in
- 10:20Speaker 5: order to you know, service West Dunbar, in order to
- 10:23Speaker 5: service West Virginia State University, and you know, just be
- 10:26Speaker 5: right there as far as when we need when we
- 10:29Speaker 5: have visitors coming in, we have a hotel right there.
- 10:32Speaker 5: So and again when we talk about that, you know
- 10:34Speaker 5: that sports tourism that you sports tourism. You know, they
- 10:38Speaker 5: need to go to the to the grocery stores to
- 10:40Speaker 5: get the waters and the fruit and all that sort
- 10:42Speaker 5: of thing. So we want something in close proximity to
- 10:44Speaker 5: service that economic boom that's happening at Shawnee and West
- 10:48Speaker 5: Virginia State, you know.
- 10:49Speaker 2: So what's next what's next in this again?
- 10:52Speaker 5: What's next is that again we're working with Kruger's in
- 10:55Speaker 5: order to figure out, you know, the leasing situation, work
- 10:57Speaker 5: with the landowner and uh, you know, the city of
- 11:00Speaker 5: Dunbar is continuing to solicit other grocery stores, whether it's
- 11:04Speaker 5: local or national change, to see if they would be
- 11:08Speaker 5: interested in coming to Dunbar.
- 11:10Speaker 2: All right, So I want to ask you a election
- 11:12Speaker 2: related question. This is I mean it is election d eight.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Did you vote? I know you're if you have a
- 11:16Speaker 2: vote yet you're going to Did you early voter? Are
- 11:18Speaker 2: you an election?
- 11:19Speaker 4: Really voted?
- 11:19Speaker 5: And it's a special time for me. My daughter she's seventeen,
- 11:23Speaker 5: she turns eighteen this year, so this was her first
- 11:25Speaker 5: time voting and she got the vote for her dad.
- 11:27Speaker 2: All right, special time for me. Well do you think
- 11:30Speaker 2: she did well? I hope she did so I'm not
- 11:33Speaker 2: just going to pay that college education. There you go. Well, Hollison,
- 11:38Speaker 2: it's always pleasure to have you on the show man,
- 11:40Speaker 2: And again it's a tricky situation. We're very happy and
- 11:42Speaker 2: the folks are for the people of South Charles and
- 11:44Speaker 2: not just I mean this because this park place is
- 11:46Speaker 2: going to be huge for all of Western and where
- 11:48Speaker 2: people come in. But you know, we're also trying to
- 11:51Speaker 2: help out, you know.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I said, this is in no way an indictment.
- 11:54Speaker 5: We fully support what's going on in South Charles and
- 11:56Speaker 5: fully support of Mayor Mullins down there. However, this is
- 12:00Speaker 5: we're just strictly talking about Dunbar and the citizens.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Nuss Dellegan, Hollis Lewis appreciate it, man, Thanks, thank you, sir.
- 12:06Speaker 2: We'll talk soon. We'll take a break and come back.
- 12:08Speaker 2: How about a little barbecue. We're going to tell barbecue
- 12:10Speaker 2: when we come back on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

- 14:48Speaker 2: We'll get back to talking election stuff coming up here
- 14:51Speaker 2: in just a little bit. Secretary of State Chris Warner
- 14:52Speaker 2: should I'm knock out a couple of texts tex says
- 14:55Speaker 2: it would be nice if all of our representatives and
- 14:58Speaker 2: business owners could get together combined resources to have a
- 15:01Speaker 2: type of shuttle service, specifically to help residents without vehicles
- 15:05Speaker 2: or can't afford uber to go door to door from
- 15:08Speaker 2: their homes to the Kroger or that whole new park
- 15:10Speaker 2: place area so they could at least just get their
- 15:13Speaker 2: shopping done, it, says the texturem Texas. Dunbar should get
- 15:18Speaker 2: some nice hotels built for the people of the popular
- 15:20Speaker 2: Shawnee Sports Park. With all those people, a new grocery
- 15:22Speaker 2: store would be needed. Problem solved, says the Texture Texas.
- 15:27Speaker 2: So it looks like Kennawk County School is losing more money.
- 15:29Speaker 2: It's sad more service personnel and teacher positions will be
- 15:32Speaker 2: cut because of the Board of Education and superintendent's office
- 15:35Speaker 2: can't create a system that attracts and retains students, says
- 15:39Speaker 2: a taxter. All right, I want to talk about something
- 15:41Speaker 2: we can all agree on right now, and that's barbecue.
- 15:43Speaker 2: This Saturday, it's the Charlie West Barbecue Fastest Slight Plaza
- 15:46Speaker 2: in Charleston. David Menzer here to talk about it. Welcome
- 15:49Speaker 2: to the show, sir, Thank you man, and to be here.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And you automatically got on my good side by coming
- 15:54Speaker 2: in and complimenting me because I'm wearing Dallas cowboy gear today,
- 15:58Speaker 2: a diehard always, all right. And you're from New York.
- 16:01Speaker 8: I'm from New York.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Somebody from New York become a cowboy.
- 16:04Speaker 8: Everybody I knew was a Buffalo Bills fan. And I'm
- 16:06Speaker 8: a contrarian, so I could not do that.
- 16:08Speaker 2: See when you think New York, automatically my mind thinks
- 16:11Speaker 2: Giants and Jets. But I forget there is that other
- 16:14Speaker 2: team up there, Rochester.
- 16:15Speaker 8: Everybody's Bills fans.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Basically that's a mafia up there as well.
- 16:18Speaker 8: Think that's right.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Bill's mafia a.
- 16:19Speaker 8: Real problem, all right.
- 16:21Speaker 2: So this Saturday, it's Charlie West Barbecue fas slack Plaza'll
- 16:25Speaker 2: talk about this event and we'll get specifics.
- 16:26Speaker 8: Don't get bored of voting, don't get tired of voting today,
- 16:29Speaker 8: come down and vote for best barbecue. Charlie West Barbecue
- 16:32Speaker 8: fes this Saturday, so May sixteenth, We're down at Slack
- 16:36Speaker 8: Plaza two pm. We start goes till seven thirty and
- 16:39Speaker 8: we've got a bunch of competition teams, all submitting blind
- 16:43Speaker 8: judged pork ribs, sauce, and wild card, and then the
- 16:48Speaker 8: public can come through by tasting tickets for a dollar
- 16:50Speaker 8: each taste all the competitors barbecue, and then vote on
- 16:54Speaker 8: what they think is the best one. And that's the
- 16:55Speaker 8: big trophy, that's the people's choice.
- 16:58Speaker 2: And this is a fundraiser for the Barbardet's Center.
- 17:00Speaker 8: It is it's the Barberdet Center is an after school
- 17:02Speaker 8: program that's free for kids on the West Side. We
- 17:04Speaker 8: get about one hundred and twenty kids come in every day,
- 17:07Speaker 8: feed them a hot dinner. We have certified tutors come
- 17:09Speaker 8: in and help them with their schoolwork, and then bring
- 17:12Speaker 8: in programming like stem and robotics and dance and music
- 17:17Speaker 8: and all kinds of stuff that just give those kids
- 17:19Speaker 8: a chance to do things otherwise wouldn't get to do.
- 17:21Speaker 2: It's one of the things I like and learning about
- 17:23Speaker 2: the Barber Deet Center is you said you have all
- 17:26Speaker 2: those different things. So sometimes people think about an after
- 17:28Speaker 2: school program and they're basically thinking about nothing wrong with babysitters,
- 17:31Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, but you're you're thinking about it.
- 17:34Speaker 2: It's a place for people to hang out, and that's
- 17:36Speaker 2: there's something to be said for that. But there's a
- 17:37Speaker 2: lot of learning that goes on there to day.
- 17:39Speaker 8: There is, there is, And we're in two of the
- 17:41Speaker 8: schools over on the West Side, and so we have
- 17:43Speaker 8: relationships with these kids. Teachers. We know what their homework is.
- 17:46Speaker 8: So if we get a kid that comes in and go,
- 17:47Speaker 8: I don't have any homework today, we know they do. Yeah,
- 17:51Speaker 8: so we get them, We get them taken care of
- 17:53Speaker 8: because you know, some of those kids don't have help
- 17:55Speaker 8: once they get home, all kinds of circumstances. Weve got
- 17:58Speaker 8: grandparents that are teaching kids and trying to help them
- 18:00Speaker 8: and raise their grandkids and they don't have a clue
- 18:02Speaker 8: what calculus is. So that's where these suitor certified tutors
- 18:06Speaker 8: come in.
- 18:07Speaker 2: And let's get back to the barbecue for mom, because
- 18:09Speaker 2: for me, it always goes back to the food. Are
- 18:11Speaker 2: you a barbecue person yourself?
- 18:12Speaker 8: I am? That's why I started this.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Okay, all right, all right, so talk about your love
- 18:15Speaker 2: of barbecue. And how you got into this, I mean
- 18:18Speaker 2: not with the with the particular van, I mean just
- 18:20Speaker 2: barbecue in general.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Sure.
- 18:21Speaker 8: So so my brother got me into it, and I've
- 18:25Speaker 8: been barbecuing ever since. I got seven smokers in my
- 18:27Speaker 8: house right now, and so it's an addiction. I can't
- 18:30Speaker 8: do anything about that. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty clear. But
- 18:33Speaker 8: we now we So we've had now six different competitors
- 18:37Speaker 8: in Backyard Barbecue from Barbie Charlie West Barbecue Fest that
- 18:41Speaker 8: now have professional either catering companies or restaurants that do barbecue.
- 18:45Speaker 8: And so yeah, it's it's and they all that they
- 18:48Speaker 8: all come back and they go, man, it wouldn't have
- 18:49Speaker 8: happened if I wouldn't come here and done this. And
- 18:52Speaker 8: so we do have room for one more or two
- 18:54Speaker 8: more competitors, depending if there's anybody out there that wants
- 18:57Speaker 8: to do it. You can find information online at w
- 19:00Speaker 8: WW dot Charlie westbbqfest dot com and it'll tell you all
- 19:04Speaker 8: the information about how to enter and what we're looking for.
- 19:07Speaker 8: Blind judge submissions in most four categories, a wild card,
- 19:10Speaker 8: best sauce, pulled pork and ribs, and then again that
- 19:14Speaker 8: People's choice for the people who come in and get samples.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I want to talk about the sauces for a moment,
- 19:19Speaker 2: because there's as many different types of sauces as there
- 19:22Speaker 2: are leaves on the trees. I mean, there's so many
- 19:24Speaker 2: different ways to prepare it. From your personal standpoint, when
- 19:29Speaker 2: you're preparing barbecue at your home or wherever, what do
- 19:32Speaker 2: you like and what do you think makes a good sauce.
- 19:34Speaker 8: You're going to die from this. I don't use sauce.
- 19:36Speaker 8: I like Texas barbecue, which is beef and it's so
- 19:39Speaker 8: good without sauce. You just don't need it.
- 19:41Speaker 2: There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. My wife and I,
- 19:44Speaker 2: I will say, she makes ribs a lot, and we
- 19:47Speaker 2: never use sauce on the ribs because I prefer like
- 19:49Speaker 2: a dry rub something like that. But I mean there's
- 19:51Speaker 2: a place for the sauce too, Maybe for me, a
- 19:53Speaker 2: little bit at the side, maybe just to dip it.
- 19:55Speaker 8: Yeah, yep makes sense to me. And if I'm going
- 19:58Speaker 8: to do that, I want a vinegar based sauce. I
- 20:00Speaker 8: want something with a little tag and some heat to it.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I want a lot of heat to it. But that's
- 20:03Speaker 2: just me.
- 20:04Speaker 8: What's your favorite?
- 20:06Speaker 2: All the above? All of them, all of them now,
- 20:08Speaker 2: I like it. I mean anything, it's got a little heat.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Like I said, I don't I'm not. I'm not a
- 20:12Speaker 2: big sauce guy, so I prefer dry rub. We do
- 20:15Speaker 2: a lot of mesquite. My wife found this black cherry
- 20:19Speaker 2: seasoning that she uses and it sounds weird, but this black,
- 20:22Speaker 2: this black cherry stuff is excellent. I'm good. Ribs nice,
- 20:26Speaker 2: all right, So give us all the details again about
- 20:30Speaker 2: the actual event, because I mean, we're we're kind. I
- 20:32Speaker 2: don't want people to think this is just just for
- 20:34Speaker 2: professionals or whatever. We want people to come out and
- 20:36Speaker 2: eat the barbecue.
- 20:37Speaker 8: Yes, exactly right. So the public will come in. There's
- 20:40Speaker 8: no fee to get in, there's no wristband to buy.
- 20:42Speaker 8: We got music all day to you come and listen
- 20:44Speaker 8: to for free, and it's good music. It's Matt Mullins
- 20:47Speaker 8: and bring downs as our headliner starts at six o'clock.
- 20:50Speaker 8: At four o'clock, we've got a parachute brigade going on,
- 20:53Speaker 8: and at two o'clock we've got a band called eleven eleven,
- 20:55Speaker 8: which is kind of a jazz thing to ease into it.
- 20:58Speaker 8: So come down, listen to music that's all free. We're
- 21:02Speaker 8: selling beer, we're selling water, we're selling soft drinks. We're
- 21:05Speaker 8: selling tasting tickets for a dollar each. And when you
- 21:08Speaker 8: buy ten tasting tickets, you get a vote for who's
- 21:11Speaker 8: got the best barbecue. And that's what we want you
- 21:13Speaker 8: to do is go around sample everybody's and then tell
- 21:16Speaker 8: us who's the best.
- 21:17Speaker 2: I got a text here for you. Okay, what exactly
- 21:20Speaker 2: is the best? Wild card category? Is that side dishes
- 21:23Speaker 2: or things like pulled chicken.
- 21:24Speaker 8: Wild card is anything smoked, and I mean anything. So
- 21:26Speaker 8: we've had some wild things. We've had some wild wild cards, right,
- 21:30Speaker 8: but we've had smoked margarita's. Somebody smoked limes and salt
- 21:35Speaker 8: and made it with a reposado and they were unbelievably good.
- 21:39Speaker 8: We've had people do desserts that are smoked. We've had
- 21:42Speaker 8: people do brisket, chicken wings, salmon, smoked, all kinds of stuff.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I want to hear more about this smoke dessert.
- 21:50Speaker 8: Well, there are at least two guys down here on
- 21:53Speaker 8: this Saturday that will have smoke dessert. And their thought
- 21:55Speaker 8: is by the time the judges get to this wild
- 21:57Speaker 8: card category for blind judging, they're going to be done
- 22:00Speaker 8: with pork and sweet stuff and all that, and they're
- 22:03Speaker 8: going to want something like we did a smoked banana
- 22:06Speaker 8: split last year and it was awesome and it one
- 22:10Speaker 8: first place.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I mean I would try it. I mean I love
- 22:12Speaker 2: banana splits and I loved anything smoke, So I'm in.
- 22:15Speaker 8: Yep, it's And we've had people do pork belly as
- 22:17Speaker 8: a Cinnmon roll, which was pretty cool. That got some
- 22:21Speaker 8: high marks, but yeah, it's all over the map. Wild
- 22:25Speaker 8: Card is whatever you think you can do best. What
- 22:29Speaker 8: I do is my because I cook in this thing.
- 22:31Speaker 8: I have a team, and so I'll do five or
- 22:33Speaker 8: six different things that could be submitted as wild card.
- 22:36Speaker 8: Whatever is ready, and whatever comes out looking the best
- 22:38Speaker 8: goes on the plate.
- 22:39Speaker 2: All right, what are some of your favorite side dishes?
- 22:42Speaker 2: You know?
- 22:43Speaker 8: I like greens, Oh, I love Yeah, I love greens,
- 22:46Speaker 8: but it's tough to make good greens, right or to
- 22:48Speaker 8: find good greens. I like greens. Mac and cheese is
- 22:50Speaker 8: always a favorite, and we have a bunch of people
- 22:52Speaker 8: that smoke mac and cheese. There will be some dishes
- 22:54Speaker 8: down there that are not meat based, and so if
- 22:56Speaker 8: somebody is not a meat eater or wants to take
- 22:58Speaker 8: a break and have a side. We'll have that stuff too.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Now I'm hungry now you know that. And it's nine
- 23:03Speaker 2: thirty on election Day, which means I'm not going to
- 23:04Speaker 2: get out of here for about another fifteen hours tonight.
- 23:06Speaker 2: But I want some barbecue.
- 23:08Speaker 8: I'll bring you a sandwich now, and I'll get you
- 23:10Speaker 8: a barbecue on Saturday.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Say, utilize one of your seven smokers day if you would,
- 23:14Speaker 2: and go home and get us something, because we're all
- 23:16Speaker 2: going to be working like late late overnight here tonight,
- 23:18Speaker 2: so you can help us out, you know, by bringing
- 23:20Speaker 2: some stuff from your personal kitchen. We can't around a lot.
- 23:23Speaker 2: But this is like, I mean, we're having a lot
- 23:25Speaker 2: of fun with this event, but this is serious biz.
- 23:28Speaker 2: When it comes to the work that you guys do
- 23:29Speaker 2: at the Predet Center.
- 23:30Speaker 8: It is this is our sole annual fundraiser. And so
- 23:32Speaker 8: all of the proceeds, not forty percent, not eighty percent,
- 23:36Speaker 8: not after expenses, all of it, everything goes to the
- 23:39Speaker 8: Bomberdet Center.
- 23:40Speaker 2: What do you need for the Bomberdet Center? I mean
- 23:41Speaker 2: what I mean other than obviously funds to keep it going,
- 23:44Speaker 2: but I mean, what what's some of the things that
- 23:46Speaker 2: people are listening right now and they'd like to get
- 23:48Speaker 2: involved to just help out, like volunteers or things like that.
- 23:50Speaker 8: Yes, So one of the biggest things we have right
- 23:52Speaker 8: now is a mentoring program. And the idea is that
- 23:55Speaker 8: every kid needs to know that one person cares about them,
- 23:58Speaker 8: and sometimes they don't get that at home times. They
- 24:00Speaker 8: may have a teacher at school, they may have a
- 24:02Speaker 8: coach that was me. I always did sports grown up,
- 24:04Speaker 8: so I always had coaches that I felt cared about.
- 24:06Speaker 8: I mean, I knew it, and some of these kids
- 24:09Speaker 8: just don't have that. And so we've got a mentoring
- 24:11Speaker 8: program we're building up now. If anybody is interested by
- 24:14Speaker 8: all means, go to the www dot Bob Burdettecenter dot
- 24:19Speaker 8: org website or look for us on Facebook and you
- 24:23Speaker 8: can get involved. We have plenty of room for people.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Talking to David Menzer again that the Charlie West Barbecue
- 24:29Speaker 2: Fest is this Saturday downtown. It' slight positive. Dave Allan
- 24:32Speaker 2: show on five eighty Live is brought to you part
- 24:34Speaker 2: by Morgan Tomorgan. If you're injured, hire morgana Morgan, America's
- 24:37Speaker 2: largest injury law fair. And we had another text here
- 24:39Speaker 2: for you. Will there be individual bottles of sauces by
- 24:42Speaker 2: those groups for sale.
- 24:43Speaker 8: There will be in competition level, because there's a separate
- 24:46Speaker 8: backyard tier from the competition level tier, and all those
- 24:49Speaker 8: guys that are professionals now have to be in competition tier.
- 24:52Speaker 8: Some of them will have bottles of their sauce for sale.
- 24:56Speaker 2: I want to talk about the competition aspect of it.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I mean, you've got a backyard and you've got the
- 25:02Speaker 2: competitors here, But to where all are people coming from
- 25:05Speaker 2: that that are competitors?
- 25:06Speaker 4: All right?
- 25:06Speaker 8: So it's all local. We've got some people from maybe
- 25:09Speaker 8: as far away as you know, there's some Elk River people. Okay,
- 25:12Speaker 8: and that's about it.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Okay, that's fine.
- 25:14Speaker 8: Yeah, Charleston's best. And this all started because it was
- 25:16Speaker 8: me and a bunch of my buddies that figured we
- 25:18Speaker 8: could all make better barbecue than each other. We all
- 25:20Speaker 8: had smokers for Christmas one year, and so we started
- 25:23Speaker 8: it that way and it's grown into this thing which
- 25:26Speaker 8: is just beautiful now.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And the thing about this event that I think is
- 25:29Speaker 2: going to be so cool is that even if you're
- 25:31Speaker 2: not Heaven forbid, you godless communists, a barbecue person, you
- 25:36Speaker 2: can come down and just hang out and enjoy the music.
- 25:38Speaker 2: There's no charge to get in. Obviously, if you're gonna
- 25:40Speaker 2: buy food, you're gonna pay for that. But I mean,
- 25:41Speaker 2: if you just want to come down and hang out,
- 25:43Speaker 2: fellowship a little bit and enjoy some music on a
- 25:45Speaker 2: Saturday afternoon in the capital city, you can certainly do that.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Yep. Weather's supposed to beautiful. Come on down, all right.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Give us the information where people can learn more again.
- 25:53Speaker 8: Yep, it's www dot Charlie West bbqfest dot com.
- 25:57Speaker 2: All right, David Benzer, we appreciate you being here, luck
- 26:00Speaker 2: with everything. Thanks a lot, and we'll see you this Saturday.

- 29:24Speaker 2: there restrictions on what type of smoker is allowed? Pellet
- 29:27Speaker 2: smokers with Wi Fi connectivity seemed like blasphemy, but are
- 29:31Speaker 2: becoming more popular. I don't know. Dave had to leave
- 29:35Speaker 2: us the other day because that's what we need. His
- 29:37Speaker 2: company is another day had to leave us. I will
- 29:40Speaker 2: see if I can get you an answer for that.
- 29:43Speaker 2: But I'll tell you. I you know, I'm a person
- 29:45Speaker 2: that loves barbecue. I'm not a big preparer of such myself.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But man, I get some buddies of mind that I
- 29:53Speaker 2: mean this. You know, David just said he had seven
- 29:55Speaker 2: different smokers in his in his house. Seven. Okay, that's
- 30:00Speaker 2: a lot of smoke. But there's people that just absolutely
- 30:04Speaker 2: go all out, all out for these competitions and so
- 30:08Speaker 2: on and so forth, and not just competition, but the
- 30:10Speaker 2: local guys as well. I mean TJ. I'm gonna have
- 30:13Speaker 2: to talk to TJ about it. TJ Meadows, our guy
- 30:15Speaker 2: here is a he's a smoker kind of guy as well.
- 30:19Speaker 2: But everything's gonna get underway Saturday afternoon with the music
- 30:21Speaker 2: and everything down to Slack Plaza, and it's a great
- 30:24Speaker 2: fundraiser for the Bomberdett Center. So if you get an
- 30:26Speaker 2: opportunity to go down and check out Charlie West, we
- 30:30Speaker 2: are efforting West Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner. I
- 30:33Speaker 2: think he's going to be coming up here a moment, gentle.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I'm men knock out a couple of texts for you
- 30:37Speaker 2: between now and then. Let me see here, Tex says Dave.
- 30:43Speaker 2: We need all independent voters to get out and vote.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I want to get Democrats on the ballot. We need
- 30:48Speaker 2: change in a bad way, says a text and his primier.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Election day in West Virginia. Poll's open until seven thirty nights.
- 30:55Speaker 2: We begin our election conference at seven oh six this
- 30:57Speaker 2: evening here to talk about election day over all. West
- 31:00Speaker 2: Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner, Good morning, Sarah, Welcome
- 31:03Speaker 2: to the show.
- 31:05Speaker 6: David. It's great to be with you this morning.
- 31:07Speaker 2: All right. Polls open at six thirty this morning, will
- 31:10Speaker 2: remain open till seven thirty this cevening. I did my
- 31:12Speaker 2: early voting this past Saturday. But when I drove by
- 31:15Speaker 2: my polling place, which was about six fifteen or six
- 31:18Speaker 2: twenty this morning, I just kind of looked over at
- 31:21Speaker 2: the elementary school there, which is the polling location for
- 31:24Speaker 2: my neighborhood, looked like everybody was getting everything set up
- 31:28Speaker 2: and ready to go. I said this before about being
- 31:30Speaker 2: a poll worker. It's a long day, but it's it's
- 31:34Speaker 2: very rewarding.
- 31:36Speaker 6: I think we would find all eight thousand, four hundred
- 31:41Speaker 6: and twenty poll workers across the state have a similar
- 31:44Speaker 6: story of how rewarding it is to be able to
- 31:47Speaker 6: put in that long day and then you know, reap
- 31:51Speaker 6: the benefits of being a part of the system. I
- 31:54Speaker 6: know my Canall County or there at the Knall City
- 31:58Speaker 6: Elementary School. Every day thing was running smoothly this morning.
- 32:02Speaker 6: We have not had any complaints from those poll workers.
- 32:07Speaker 6: But we've got two hundred and sixty five people out
- 32:09Speaker 6: across the state, counting the two hundred and fifty liaison
- 32:15Speaker 6: from the Fusion Center as well as our own election
- 32:18Speaker 6: division staff that you're you're well aware of.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I think think you're going good, Secretary.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I think sometimes people don't realize that the work that
- 32:29Speaker 2: goes into this election, any election from the poll workers
- 32:32Speaker 2: involved not just the time and everything, but the training
- 32:35Speaker 2: that goes into it. And the folks, as you said,
- 32:39Speaker 2: from the office that are out and I mean folks
- 32:42Speaker 2: probably hit the road to get to their destinations. I'm
- 32:44Speaker 2: talking about the folks in your office to go I've
- 32:46Speaker 2: probably hit the road at four point thirty five o'clock
- 32:48Speaker 2: this morning to go to all fifty five counties and
- 32:52Speaker 2: to look for problems or maybe there are no problems,
- 32:54Speaker 2: just to go in and say thank you to the
- 32:56Speaker 2: poll workers.
- 32:58Speaker 6: That's exactly what we've been doing on But know that
- 33:01Speaker 6: that all started back in August of last year at
- 33:04Speaker 6: Canaane Valley when we had fifty two or fifty five
- 33:06Speaker 6: county clerks, and all fifty five county clerks offices had
- 33:11Speaker 6: staff there for the training, and then those county clerks
- 33:14Speaker 6: were able to take those tools back and conduct their
- 33:18Speaker 6: individual training. So we have the best trained poll workers
- 33:22Speaker 6: in the country. Our fifty five county clerks do a
- 33:26Speaker 6: tremendous job. And you know, now it's time for the
- 33:30Speaker 6: citizens to speak. We've all heard from all the candidates.
- 33:34Speaker 6: Now it's time for all of us to get out
- 33:36Speaker 6: and vote that haven't voted. And again we thank our
- 33:39Speaker 6: poll workers for all that they do.
- 33:41Speaker 2: I think a couple of those poll workers are actually
- 33:43Speaker 2: going to join Wilson Meadows on talk line coming up
- 33:46Speaker 2: next hour. Had there been any issues? I mean, I
- 33:49Speaker 2: know you said where you are that didn't send any issues.
- 33:50Speaker 2: But are you hearing anything out there from any of
- 33:52Speaker 2: the other fifty four counties around the state of West Virginia.
- 33:56Speaker 6: No, I'm in Cable County right now, was in County earlier.
- 34:00Speaker 6: We're going to hit Putnam County and other counties on
- 34:03Speaker 6: the way back. So we have not heard anything this
- 34:09Speaker 6: morning of any complaints. Again, lots of phone calls already
- 34:13Speaker 6: occur in this morning, just to check in and make
- 34:16Speaker 6: sure everything's running the way that it should. And right
- 34:19Speaker 6: now we're fortunate not to have any complaints as of yet.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Talking again with Wes Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner,
- 34:27Speaker 2: the numbers secretaries say that early voting actually went up
- 34:31Speaker 2: a bit compared to twenty twenty two, which was the
- 34:33Speaker 2: last non presidential election we had. Why do you think
- 34:35Speaker 2: the numbers went up?
- 34:38Speaker 6: You know, it starts with the confidence in the election
- 34:42Speaker 6: and the processes that take place. Our fifty five county
- 34:46Speaker 6: clerks again are tremendous. Working with our Election division staff
- 34:52Speaker 6: would be number one, you know, I'd say next, I
- 34:56Speaker 6: mean to point out that, you know, there was concern
- 34:58Speaker 6: about the photo I D law that took effect in
- 35:03Speaker 6: this election, and the close for Republican primary, but neither
- 35:07Speaker 6: one of those things hurt voter turnout at all. In fact,
- 35:11Speaker 6: it may have increased, you know, the confidence, and we
- 35:15Speaker 6: see an eight percent increase during early voting. Hopefully that
- 35:18Speaker 6: carries forward to today, a beautiful day, no reason not
- 35:23Speaker 6: to get out and vote.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Well, we're certainly hoping. Jeff Jenkins brought this up yesterday
- 35:28Speaker 2: we're hoping that the nice weather doesn't keep people away
- 35:30Speaker 2: from the pole secretary because of the kids are home
- 35:32Speaker 2: from school and they get the day off, they may say, well,
- 35:35Speaker 2: you know what, let's go, let's go to the park
- 35:37Speaker 2: or something like it. But you got plenty of time. Again,
- 35:38Speaker 2: polls open at six point thirty. They closed at seven
- 35:40Speaker 2: thirty tonight, and that issue on the closed primary, you
- 35:45Speaker 2: know a lot of people question that. And again just
- 35:48Speaker 2: in case, you know, there'll be some people to show
- 35:50Speaker 2: up to the polls today. If you are a registered
- 35:52Speaker 2: independent in West Virginia, in the past, you've been able
- 35:54Speaker 2: to go in and say I'm a regiment independent, but
- 35:56Speaker 2: I want a Republican ballot. The Republican Executive Committee years
- 36:00Speaker 2: ago made the decision to close the primary. So as
- 36:03Speaker 2: an independent, you can go in, you can vote nonpartisan,
- 36:06Speaker 2: you know, your school boards and things like that, your
- 36:09Speaker 2: judicial races, but you can also request a Democrat ballot
- 36:13Speaker 2: if you would want to do that, but you can't
- 36:14Speaker 2: request a Republican ballot. And so we've I think done
- 36:18Speaker 2: our part here. Your office and the county clerks have
- 36:20Speaker 2: also done their due diligence and trying to get that
- 36:23Speaker 2: information out there, but people just need to know that
- 36:25Speaker 2: before they go to the polling place today.
- 36:28Speaker 6: You're exactly correct. The one other thing I wanted to mention,
- 36:31Speaker 6: Dave On when you ask about the increased turnout. We've
- 36:35Speaker 6: registered over fifty thousand new voters since I've took office,
- 36:40Speaker 6: and we've registered over seventeen thousand high school seniors. So
- 36:45Speaker 6: the staff has been out into the public schools and
- 36:49Speaker 6: private schools to register new voters. I think I've been
- 36:54Speaker 6: to thirty eight high schools. The staff under the leadership
- 36:58Speaker 6: of Jared Summers has been fifty seven high schools this year. So,
- 37:03Speaker 6: you know, it's great to see the increased number of
- 37:06Speaker 6: voters registering to vote, and it looks like that may
- 37:10Speaker 6: have shown up in the early voting vote numbers.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I saw a report on thirteen News yesterday evening that
- 37:18Speaker 2: I think right down the street from US, Charleston Catholic
- 37:20Speaker 2: High School was one of those schools that won the
- 37:22Speaker 2: Jennings Randolph Ward. It's good stuff.
- 37:25Speaker 6: Yeah, they registered more than eighty five percent of their class.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Got to share some time with a delegate Mike Pushkin
- 37:32Speaker 6: there at Charleston Catholic yesterday to make the Award for
- 37:36Speaker 6: the Jennings Randoff Award.
- 37:39Speaker 2: And you mentioned the voter ID that is now law.
- 37:42Speaker 2: You have to have a photo ID when you go
- 37:43Speaker 2: in to vote, and you're here you're saying it has
- 37:45Speaker 2: not been any problem with that, because here's what I
- 37:47Speaker 2: have noticed, a lot of people actually like having to
- 37:51Speaker 2: do that. It gives them a little further sense of security. Really,
- 37:54Speaker 2: my wife and I really voted Saturday in Putnam County
- 37:57Speaker 2: and I just saw people just get out of their
- 37:58Speaker 2: cars and walking in with their with their they didn't
- 38:01Speaker 2: take their if the lady who didn't take their purse
- 38:03Speaker 2: or whatever in they had their had the driver's license
- 38:05Speaker 2: or whatever form of photo ID. Because there's others besides
- 38:07Speaker 2: driver's license in their hand and ready to go vote.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Yeah, we found the last week, I think I visited
- 38:13Speaker 6: eight or nine counties and many of the pool workers
- 38:17Speaker 6: there said, hey, we get you know, a photo ID
- 38:20Speaker 6: offered in the form of a driver's license, and had
- 38:23Speaker 6: been doing that for you know, a couple of elections.
- 38:25Speaker 6: It's good now to know that it's uniform across the state.
- 38:29Speaker 6: So uh yeah, it increases confidence that only those that
- 38:34Speaker 6: uh you know match with their driver's license. Or photo
- 38:38Speaker 6: ID are going to be able to vote?
- 38:42Speaker 2: I saw this question, and I know you're busy, and
- 38:45Speaker 2: we'll let you go. But but I saw this question
- 38:47Speaker 2: posted on a social media site earlier.
- 38:50Speaker 15: Uh.
- 38:50Speaker 2: It was a lady that said that she had gotten
- 38:54Speaker 2: married and that her photo I have the name that's
- 38:57Speaker 2: on her driver's license, Uh, is not the same as
- 39:01Speaker 2: would be in the poll books, the the you know
- 39:03Speaker 2: when the when they go check you off, and she
- 39:05Speaker 2: was she was asking this of someone, what how does
- 39:08Speaker 2: that impact her?
- 39:11Speaker 6: Well, first of all, it's really easy, uh, from to
- 39:15Speaker 6: go to go vote w b uh dot com and
- 39:19Speaker 6: the switcher name if you've been married since the last election.
- 39:26Speaker 6: But we still ask them to show up, show the
- 39:29Speaker 6: I d uh and if at all else sales, they
- 39:33Speaker 6: would vote a provisional ballot Dave.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yeah, because and by law, no one can be turned away,
- 39:38Speaker 2: no one can be refused to right to vote.
- 39:40Speaker 6: That's right, absolutely correct.
- 39:43Speaker 2: So dare you say, Chris Warner, I know you're going
- 39:44Speaker 2: to rejoin us, I think later today on Metro News
- 39:46Speaker 2: Midday and you said things have been running smooth so far.
- 39:49Speaker 2: You've been in Kanawha and Cable and Putnam County. So
- 39:51Speaker 2: We hope that wherever you are when we talked to
- 39:53Speaker 2: you in three or four hours, that you'll have uh,
- 39:56Speaker 2: you'll have similar good news stories for us with no issues.
- 40:00Speaker 6: We look forward to the update. Thanks again, Dave.

- 45:29Speaker 2: Republicans telling people you can't vote this way or that way.
- 45:33Speaker 2: If you're registered, you should be allowed to vote any candidate,
- 45:36Speaker 2: Republican or Democrat or independent.
- 45:39Speaker 11: You know.
- 45:39Speaker 2: I was one that said I thought it was going
- 45:41Speaker 2: to be a mistake for the Republican Party to close
- 45:43Speaker 2: their primary. And I may be wrong. I may be
- 45:45Speaker 2: wrong about that, but there is also something And again,
- 45:50Speaker 2: I am a former Republican who switched to independent. I
- 45:53Speaker 2: did not switch back just to vote, and I did
- 45:55Speaker 2: not request a Democrat ballot. I just voted nonpartisan when
- 45:58Speaker 2: I voted this past Saturday. There is something to be said, though,
- 46:01Speaker 2: to play Devil's advocate for there is a reason why
- 46:04Speaker 2: you have a primary and you have a general, and
- 46:06Speaker 2: think of it. In the world of sports, you got
- 46:08Speaker 2: to go through the first round to get to the
- 46:10Speaker 2: second round. I mean, I understand the argument, I really
- 46:14Speaker 2: really do, Tex says Dave. Republicans are a bunch of
- 46:21Speaker 2: control freaks. For party that prides itself on small government,
- 46:24Speaker 2: they sure do love telling people what to do. Well,
- 46:28Speaker 2: You've heard me say in the past that the Republican
- 46:32Speaker 2: Party of today many in many ways, not all, but
- 46:37Speaker 2: in many ways, does it bear a lot of resemblance
- 46:40Speaker 2: to the small government Republicans that I idolize growing up, Thank
- 46:47Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan for example. It's not the same, folks, It's
- 46:52Speaker 2: simply not saying. It's better not say it's not the same.

- 47:34Speaker 2: President Trump during an interview session yesterday said he would
- 47:38Speaker 2: be open to looking into that. There have been several
- 47:40Speaker 2: people that have asked our governor and our legislative body
- 47:45Speaker 2: to take a look at that. Here the Contractors Association
- 47:48Speaker 2: know are just saying, hold on a second, that's a
- 47:50Speaker 2: lot of money. That's a lot of money that we
- 47:53Speaker 2: are going to lose that would go toward road projects,
- 47:55Speaker 2: and we all want a roads fix. So we'll talk
- 47:56Speaker 2: to Jason Pizztela about that and more. Of course, Open
- 47:59Speaker 2: Line Western Metro New's Midday with thirteen News and tonight
- 48:02Speaker 2: Live anchor Amanda Baron and me coming up at noon today.
- 48:05Speaker 2: By the way, I want to get this out there.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Today is Amanda Baron's birthday, So happy birthday. I'm not
- 48:12Speaker 2: going to tell you how old she is. She'll probably
- 48:14Speaker 2: tell you, but her answer will be I'm a heck
- 48:17Speaker 2: of a lot younger than you, meaning me, So happy birthday.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Ab on this show tomorrow, of course, We're going to
- 48:28Speaker 2: have more on the election, a little post election roundtable.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Brad mcwhanny, a million Iicley and Stephen Allen Adams is
- 48:33Speaker 2: they've done in the past, We're going to join me
- 48:35Speaker 2: to kind of break down the election coming up on
- 48:38Speaker 2: tomorrow's show. Tex says, for the love of Pete's I'm
- 48:43Speaker 2: a fifty two year old woman, Someone please tell me
- 48:46Speaker 2: what rights I've had taken from me. One right that
- 48:50Speaker 2: has been taken was actually taken by the extreme leftist Democrats,
- 48:53Speaker 2: and that's letting a boy who claims he's a girl
- 48:56Speaker 2: in a girls' sports because he can't cut it against
- 48:58Speaker 2: other boys. So there you go. Enough with this stuff,
- 49:02Speaker 2: says hey, text, mister Meadows has joined us today. You
- 49:08Speaker 2: know there there's an election today. Yeah. I'm not sure
- 49:12Speaker 2: whether you knew about that or not.
- 49:13Speaker 19: I had heard something about it, and I went by
- 49:15Speaker 19: the elementary school this morning and there was like vote here,
- 49:19Speaker 19: So I heard a little something about it.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Now you said that you voted on Saturday. I did,
- 49:25Speaker 2: as did I What timeframe did you vote? I'm to
- 49:27Speaker 2: see how close we were are? We cho one thirty? Okay?
- 49:30Speaker 2: I was there about eleven Third Valley Park, Valley Park
- 49:33Speaker 2: in Putnam count anybody waiting ahead of you, and we
- 49:35Speaker 2: got there when you when you were maybe one person.
- 49:37Speaker 2: They had a couple ahead of us.
- 49:39Speaker 19: A couple had efficient, quick easy, you know, handed over
- 49:43Speaker 19: my license. Oh my goodness, I had to hand over
- 49:46Speaker 19: my license.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Terrible, So peez. Anyway, what do you think about today? Man?
- 49:54Speaker 19: I think it is going to be a defining moment
- 49:57Speaker 19: in that we are seeing all this legislative ten between
- 50:01Speaker 19: the governor and the legislature spill over into the voting
- 50:03Speaker 19: booth and we'll see what happens with it. You know,
- 50:07Speaker 19: I've been tracking who Morrissey endorsed, who Capito endorsed, and
- 50:12Speaker 19: then I think that's definitely a narrative tonight. Although I'm
- 50:14Speaker 19: not going to give the governor credit for people he
- 50:16Speaker 19: endorsed that have no opponent.
- 50:17Speaker 2: I mean, what's the point.
- 50:18Speaker 4: M hm uh.
- 50:19Speaker 2: So we'll see who wins.
- 50:20Speaker 19: I think, Look, if you're if you're Morrissey, I think
- 50:23Speaker 19: you gotta win the deed's coma race because he's heavily
- 50:27Speaker 19: invested in that one.
- 50:28Speaker 2: So if you don't win that one, that's a loss.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Is that the one that he's most invested in I
- 50:31Speaker 2: think I think that the one with Vernon Chris.
- 50:34Speaker 19: Uh No, I mean the money money wise, the most
- 50:37Speaker 19: invested is the Takubo race Cuba prize money wise, but
- 50:43Speaker 19: personal investment. I think it's the Deed's Coma race. You know,
- 50:48Speaker 19: there was one other senator besides Rupy Phillips, sponsored the
- 50:52Speaker 19: bill resolution to say you have to be born in
- 50:54Speaker 19: the state of West Virginia be governor. Wan'll take a
- 50:56Speaker 19: guess who it wants.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Oh, I wonder Vince de Vinceteed's yeah, so you got
- 51:01Speaker 2: it gets personal now, Oh, it's been personal. It's been personal.
- 51:05Speaker 2: It's been personal.
- 51:06Speaker 6: Uh.
- 51:07Speaker 19: Look, he doesn't like Vernon Chris either. So that's a
- 51:08Speaker 19: big race, right. His packs are heavily involved in that one.
- 51:11Speaker 19: So watch that race, uh, the Hecker race, watch that
- 51:15Speaker 19: one in the house.
- 51:16Speaker 6: Uh.
- 51:17Speaker 19: I think those are the big ones that that really matter.
- 51:22Speaker 19: And we'll determine based on which way they go. Seeither
- 51:25Speaker 19: a good night for him or a bad night.
- 51:26Speaker 2: For all Right, and you're on the air tonight, you're
- 51:28Speaker 2: in Charleston tonight on the Metro News television app and
- 51:32Speaker 2: telling them and the radio and all the all the
- 51:34Speaker 2: episode they tell me, so they tell you all right.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Converce starts tonight at seven o six and again uh
- 51:40Speaker 2: we'll be handling the local races as well as the
- 51:42Speaker 2: Network Racist crew and Morgantown crew here. All we need
- 51:45Speaker 2: is you.
- 51:46Speaker 19: Ozzy Osbourne, investor Goodman of the of the their vocal band.
- 51:50Speaker 4: I want to see that one.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Yeah, sure you did, quick text says, Can I just
- 51:55Speaker 2: say kudos to miss Vera McCormick. The lady is always
- 51:57Speaker 2: so prepared in such a class act and her staff.
