- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, now nine till noon weekdays on 710WOR. Hey,
- 0:09Speaker 1: let's take some calls. Let's go to Dan in Queens. Dan,
- 0:13Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Good, Mark. I wanted to mention to you, with the
- 0:17Speaker 2: prostitution on Roosevelt and 82nd Street, been going on for
- 0:23Speaker 2: a while, young, Asian, look like Chinese girls, uh, No English,
- 0:30Speaker 2: under 18, with a big fat mama's son doing the
- 0:33Speaker 2: business for them.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Well, no English. What, are you going to have a
- 0:36Speaker 1: conversation with her? How much do you pay for that, Dan?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
- 0:39Speaker 1: No, but how much is that?
- 0:43Speaker 3: No.
- 0:44Speaker 1: There's a whole street in Queens with these products. But
- 0:47Speaker 1: how much, like this guy in the trailer park, it's $ 140.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That's pretty cheap, isn't it?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, this mama's son must want $ 500. Oh, really?
- 0:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and the cops were out there yesterday. Two cops
- 1:01Speaker 2: in front of the entrance of their second floor place
- 1:05Speaker 2: right in front. It's closed. A lot of complaints. They're
- 1:08Speaker 2: so young, Mark, you know, and they're illegal.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Hey, now, let's be honest. When you walk down the street,
- 1:13Speaker 1: do they all say, hey, Dan, hi, Dan?
- 1:15Speaker 2: They say, Grandpa, can you do it?
- 1:17Speaker 1: Oh, all right. All right, Dan, thanks for calling. That's
- 1:22Speaker 1: like the old joke that Joe Biden says to them,
- 1:26Speaker 1: how much? And she says, Forget it. You've had it. Oh,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I'm going to show you. So let's go to Mike
- 1:33Speaker 1: in Portchester. Mike, how you doing? All right, Mark. How's
- 1:37Speaker 1: it going?
- 1:38Speaker 5: Good. All right. Listen, you were talking about the season.
- 1:44Speaker 5: And I was just, I was in Costco the other day.
- 1:47Speaker 5: They got skeletons and everything all over the place.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yeah, the Halloween stuff's already out.
- 1:53Speaker 5: I worked in retail, you know.
- 1:54Speaker 1: You did?
- 1:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 5: Grants and.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Grants. WT Grants. That was an old department store.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 1: And where else did you work?
- 2:03Speaker 5: And the thing was... Huh?
- 2:05Speaker 1: I said, where else did you work?
- 2:08Speaker 5: Bloomingdale's. I helped open the one in White Plains.
- 2:11Speaker 1: The one in White Plains is spectacular.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a great store.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It really is.
- 2:17Speaker 5: And I worked there for 15 years part-time.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Oh.
- 2:22Speaker 5: And I was a teacher during the day. But the
- 2:25Speaker 5: thing was that you had a demarcation of time, like,
- 2:31Speaker 5: for Christmas. It was the day after Thanksgiving.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 5: So we had to work until, like, 1 o'clock in
- 2:37Speaker 5: the morning, dressing the place up for Christmas.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Oh, all right. Well, you know. Yeah, now, listen. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 1: you're right. Day after Thanksgiving, we'll start the Christmas season.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Now it starts mid-September. Already Halloween stuff is up. It's ridiculous.
- 2:55Speaker 1: That Bloomingdale's in White Plains is perfect because it's an
- 2:58Speaker 1: enormous store. It's as big as the New York store.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And it's a massive parking lot right around it. You
- 3:04Speaker 1: drive right up, park your car, walk right in, come out,
- 3:07Speaker 1: get right in your car. You know, the problem with
- 3:10Speaker 1: these malls, some of these malls, you've got to drive
- 3:12Speaker 1: into a garage. You've got to get a ticket. You've
- 3:15Speaker 1: got to stand at a kiosk for five minutes. Then
- 3:19Speaker 1: you go to the mall. You don't really buy anything.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You just want to leave. And now you've got to pay.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's ridiculous. These malls are all dying. You should pay
- 3:28Speaker 1: everybody $ 5 to come into the mall. We have to
- 3:31Speaker 1: pay to park. That's why that Bloomingdale's is great. Walt
- 3:34Speaker 1: Whitman Mall is great. The Americana. You can just pull
- 3:38Speaker 1: in and park. Don't have to get a ticket. Don't
- 3:41Speaker 1: have to pay. Let's go to Dennis in Long Island. Dennis,
- 3:44Speaker 1: how are you doing? Well, good morning.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I've got a question regarding this DA from Philadelphia, Larry Krasner.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He's saying some real... dangerous and inflammatory stuff towards Trump.
- 3:57Speaker 3: How come this guy is still walking around? I mean,
- 4:00Speaker 3: you know, why aren't the feds investigating him?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Well, so far it's legal what he's doing. It's terrible.
- 4:07Speaker 1: But it's like Letitia James, you know. And the other
- 4:09Speaker 1: problem is you get her on something, goes before a
- 4:11Speaker 1: crazy district judge who's a left-wing guy and throws the
- 4:15Speaker 1: case out. You know, they pretty much had her on
- 4:17Speaker 1: that mortgage fraud. But, you know, you get to one
- 4:21Speaker 1: of those crazy judges, they throw it out. Let's go
- 4:23Speaker 1: to Ralph in Manhattan. Ralph, how you doing? Great, Mark.
- 4:27Speaker 4: You know, Philly's notorious for the worst fans in sports.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I mean, they are next to no one. I mean,
- 4:35Speaker 4: they used to have a jail, Mark, right in Veterans Stadium,
- 4:39Speaker 4: just for convenience sake.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, most stadiums have a jail in the stadium because
- 4:45Speaker 1: they have to hold the guys until the police get there.
- 4:48Speaker 4: Yeah, back when you didn't see that too often, it
- 4:53Speaker 4: was very interesting to watch. But, you know, when Steinbrenner
- 4:57Speaker 4: threatened to go to New Jersey, he was taken seriously.
- 5:00Speaker 4: New Yorkers kind of went into a panic during that period,
- 5:04Speaker 4: and they wanted their beloved Yankees to stay put right
- 5:07Speaker 4: where they were. Then they went and built that other ballpark,
- 5:10Speaker 4: which they never needed. That original Yankee stadium was so great, Mark. Well,
- 5:14Speaker 4: they did need the new ballpark. You think so?
- 5:20Speaker 1: I know so. George was a good friend of mine,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and he explained it all to me once. The real reason,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it has nothing to do with a better field or
- 5:27Speaker 1: more seats. It has nothing to do. Remember they built
- 5:29Speaker 1: that new stadium in Baltimore? That was the first.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 3: All right.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Well, they put in that new stadium a lot of stores,
- 5:36Speaker 1: a lot of restaurants, a lot of stuff. And they
- 5:39Speaker 1: found that people came to the game three hours early
- 5:41Speaker 1: and spent a fortune in the stores, the restaurants, the bars.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And when the game was over, they stayed an extra
- 5:46Speaker 1: couple hours. And on the way out, spent a lot
- 5:48Speaker 1: of money in the bars, the restaurants, the mall, the shopping,
- 5:52Speaker 1: the souvenir. So they realized you could make double your money.
- 5:55Speaker 1: You could get the money from the game and you
- 5:57Speaker 1: could get the money from the shopping and all that
- 5:59Speaker 1: and the eating. So every stadium had to all of
- 6:02Speaker 1: a sudden have a mall in it, had to have
- 6:04Speaker 1: a lot of restaurants, had to have a lot of.
- 6:07Speaker 1: stuff in it, and that's why they all started rebuilding.
- 6:10Speaker 1: That was the real reason.
- 6:12Speaker 4: It sounds like a Cohen situation at Citi Field because
- 6:15Speaker 4: he's got the casino going, everything around the ballpark. He
- 6:19Speaker 4: did away with the chop shops, which was a good idea.
- 6:23Speaker 4: It sounds like he's more interested in all these ancillary
- 6:26Speaker 4: things more so than the Mets.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, he is. Because they're all smart business people. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: remember Bob Kraft when he built the stadium in Foxboro.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Right next door, what did he build? Like a Patriots
- 6:38Speaker 1: mall where you can eat, drink, spend money. Now, it's
- 6:43Speaker 1: good for the fan because you remember when the game
- 6:44Speaker 1: let out, you were stuck in a nightmare of traffic.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Everybody left at once. But with all the bars, restaurants, stores, everything,
- 6:50Speaker 1: not everybody leaves at once. So there's never the same
- 6:52Speaker 1: kind of traffic jam. Hey, when we come back, the
- 6:55Speaker 1: very funny Jimmy Fallon. We'll talk to him next on 710WOR.
