- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Scarlet Orange and Brown Podcast, a weekly breakdown of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Here's your hosts, Ken Carpenter and Chris Huseman.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome back to the Scarlet, Orange, and Brown Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Ken Carpenter.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: And I'm Chris Usman.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: And another week is in the books.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: The Buckeyes take care of Iowa over in Iowa with a 31-14 victory.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Cincinnati came up on the short end with a 22-7 loss to the Jaguars.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: And the Browns make it three in a row with a 27-24 Thursday night win over the hated Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Dewey, how's how's your week been so far?
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: It's been good, Kenny.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: It's been good.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, I wish my Bengals were healthy and uh three and one right now or four-no.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, but um, you know what?
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: It's Bengals football, and we wouldn't have it any other way because that's the only thing we know in Cincinnati.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: You know, they're they're only two and two, so they're only a game back, and uh their their schedule uh is favorable, favorable this week coming up, and uh, you know, I think it's a chance for all three uh Ohio teams to come away with a victory, but but then again, it's the NFL and you just never know what's gonna happen with that.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Kenny, are you prepared for your Browns to go four and one?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure, to be honest with you.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, I mean there's a good chance and they could do it, but I just think that the the differences between the best teams in the NFL and the worst teams isn't all that much.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: So any any week a team could lose.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: And right, you know, so I I'm going in hoping the Browns can win, but I'm I'm not banking on it because it's I just don't trust the NFL.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, I mean, and nobody does.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, with that officiating that I saw Sunday uh with the at the Bingos game, and in the in the first half, there was 25 penalties.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: Well, I know the Browns, they definitely had 14, I think was the number that they put up for penalties.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: That's and then did you see the referees that got suspended this past week?
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, did they?
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I didn't hear that.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Well, the one guy was F-bombing one of the players, he got suspended.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: The other one was a uh that was a line judge, I believe.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And the other one was he just got knocked over by a player and he got up and got in the player's face.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: And it's like come on, guys, you're out there running around.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's yeah, there's a lot of hand signals going on.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of people, you know, going to their position.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, one of my favorite guys I I like to watch on the sideline is the get back coach.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Have you seen that guy?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: He likes tugs on the offensive and defensive and the head coach, you know, um, coordinators and the head coach and tugs on them, make sure they're back.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: You know, it's uh that'd be a great job.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and uh they still end up getting penalties, so it's you know, but you know, let's talk about the Buckeyes.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: They uh their defense was totally excuse me, different than the week before.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: They um they bounced back, they held Iowa to just 238 yards.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Jeremiah Smith, he uh continues his make his case for the Heisman Trophy with I believe he had 206 yards, two TDs.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: And Julian Sand, he just does what Julian Saiyan does.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Three TDs, 324 yards.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: But the one thing that stood out to me was the running game for the Buckeyes this past week.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: And Jacoby Jackson just, you know, he he seems like a man on a mission.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he did.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, he looked elite to me.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I think he's taking over the number one spot over Bo Jackson right now.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Um, like you said, I agree with the Joey and Sand comment.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: He's um he's just consistent in what he does.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, you're not gonna see, you know, uh something crazy out of Joey and Sand.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Every once in a great while he'll throw an interception, but uh it's just because he's probably tardy and looking for his number two or three receiver because they've got three guys blanketed over Jeremiah Smith.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Jeremiah is just a generational player, you know, can he, like you said, 11 receptions, over 200 yards, you know, two more TDs.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: He's got every record wide receiver-wise for Ohio State, clear front runner for the Heisman right now.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I agree with your comment about the defense bouncing back.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Um, if you remember last week on the SOB, we mentioned on there that uh Ryan Day talked about and they were having open tryouts for the defensive line.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Uh basically got called out.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: And um they do need discipline, uh, too many penalties.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, only holding Iowa to 39 rushing yards, that's that's a big, big win right there for for Coach Patricia in that defense.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I I agree with you, Kenny.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: You called it last week on McLean, how good he's playing.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: He played really well last week.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Um, and we even had Kenyatta Jackson show up and um make some good plays last week, too, as well.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: You know, the the thing that I just heard, and I he's been injured all the way up until this time, but they now add another wide receiver to the mix in Kyle Parker, the LSU transfer.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: And when he came in, he was the first player to have his black stripe removed.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: And he got uh he had four touchdowns for LSU last year.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: So wow, there's some they're they're gonna need him, uh Ken, because he, you know, Ennis is questionable, McCoon's questionable um right now um just for the practice this week.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, some of the other guys that are out, Daniels, uh, you know, the offensive tackle is questionable on the defensive side of the ball, you know, Corey Wilder is questionable along with uh Rembert, the linebacker, too.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: So the good news out of that is we're getting Timmins back.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Um, he's back healthy right now.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: And you know, I I just think that's got to pay dividends for us in the secondary because these three games coming up this stretch after Maryland, Kenny, at IU, at USC, and home against Oregon, that's really gonna tell the tale.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, without a doubt.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: And you know, I think that uh when you look at what the Buckeyes are doing, you know, I I think I was probably hard on them and saying things weren't getting done, but when you really sit back and look at it, they just seem like they're improving every game.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, and I in a day and age where these star players want to the coaches are getting them on the field, I I gotta give it up to Ryan Day.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, he is not allowing Legend Bay to play and Corey Wilder.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: They and it's not because they're not practicing well enough, they're they're just not showing up on time.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we talked about the maturity level being on your own last week on the SOB, and uh, you know, hopefully Legend Bay is gonna buy into the system uh because he's talented enough.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: You just you just hate to hear those talented people go by the wayside because they don't have any discipline.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think I think you gotta get a there's gotta be a player on the team to you know go pick him up, get him out of bed or whatever it is, you know.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Well, we used to have um you know, we used to have that.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, with um with the safety that we had um last year that got drafted number one, playing for the D Dallas Cowboys, you know, the transfer from Alabama, you know, that guy was just uh a captain on and off the field.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I remember last year, Kenny, we had Donnie Nicky, former captain of the Buckeyes on the show, and he would tell us, you know, the mount how you know Coach Trussell basically put him in charge of um you know Michael Doss.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: And you know, you have to be with him at all times.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: He also put him in charge of Maurice Clarette and you know, said, hey, on the road, you know, you gotta make sure where you know where he's at at all times, make sure he's in, you know, uh bed check, so on and so forth.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, you need those captains on and off the field, too.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Well, the Buckeyes get Maryland this week.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, Maryland's two and three, and I'm surprised that their coach hasn't been fired yet.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: But the Buckeyes are 34 and a half point favorites.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: And I think that this is a week that they'll take another step.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Do you agree?
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I I I agree, but the the thing, uh the thing that we really have to clean up, Kenny, is our special teams.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Um, it's it's becoming more of a concern for me.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: Uh just miscues, um, execution.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Uh we finally get a good return, we get a block in a back.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Um it's just sloppy.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: We missed another field goal.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Um, in order for us to take that next level, um, we gotta know that hey, you know, if we are on the 47-yard um 37-yard line, and it's fourth and four, then we can go out and kick a field goal, no problem.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: But I we don't have that right now.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: You know, we're it's forcing us to go for it.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: And those three points add up, Kenny.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: And um, I just don't know, you know, if we're getting that out of our special teams right now.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: What is your take?
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: What was your thoughts on Julian Saiyan uh just taking off and you know, looking like trying to be like a Braxton Miller, you know.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I get that we, you know, the fans want him to take off running, but but every time he does it, I sit there and go, please don't get hurt.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's I mean it's it's just part of the game.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: You know, I do the same with Joe Burrow when he takes off running.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I'm like, well, there goes our franchise, there goes our season.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Let's hope he pops back up because the teams that we play, um, you know, I mean, I they're headhunting out there.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: You play when you got to play the Baltimore Ravens twice, and you gotta play the Pittsburgh Steelers twice, and the Browns and twice, and you know, you play uh debatably what I thought was one of the bigger cheap shotting teams out there in Jacksonville.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I mean, these guys are they're out there to, you know, to for blood, and you just gotta be very careful out there.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: And like you said, what we have after this week, well, you know, it could happen this week, but it, you know, the three games coming up, if we make it out of there healthy and win all these games, we're gonna be in a good spot.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, without a doubt.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: And you know, the thing that you know, since I I mentioned that is you know, Satan's backup is a true freshman.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: So, you know, he's a good one, but yeah, I just hope it never comes to that, that's for sure.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, I have the buckeyes.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know about you, Kenny, but I got the it's gonna be 40, uh, 415 kick, I believe.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: Uh if I read that right.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gonna be 71 degrees.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Um and uh uh light wind.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be ideal for football Saturday.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Uh the rain's gonna come in Saturday night around 10 uh or so.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Um I've got OSU winning this game 45 to 7, uh 45 to 13, excuse me.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm I'm in agreement.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be a bigger number.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: I think the Buckeyes are gonna get into the 50s.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: I got them winning 55 to 10 this week against Maryland.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And, you know, since we're we're talking college football, after this week, what is your top five look like?
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Well, I was thinking about that today, and I still have Georgia um for some reason at number one.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Um, they're just I'm not sure, you know, until they play Alabama coming up here.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: I'm just not I'm I can't get a good read on that game.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Um, I do have Texas at two, I've got Ohio State at three, I've got Alabama at four, and I've got Miami at five.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: I picked Florida in there at five last week, and I don't know what Florida was doing playing Missouri.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, they got boat raced.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, they got taken behind the woodshed, Kenny.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, it was they got pinned up against the gym lockers in there and just beat down.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: So, you know, that that they really that really disappointed me too.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: But um that's my top five.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: How about you?
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Yes, uh, and you know, speaking of that Florida game, I don't know if you saw it or not, but the uh Missouri uh PA system people, they uh they played the Tom Petty won't back down.
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Well, my my top five is I'm in agreement with you.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: I think Georgia's the number one, Texas is at two, Notre Dame's at three, and they go out and play Stanford this week, so it's another 30-point blowout for them.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Uh I got the Buckeyes at four and the Miami Hurricanes at five, and I got Alabama and Indiana right there on the outside looking in, and Alabama gets the win against Georgia.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: That's probably going to push them up into the top three, I would think.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, the thing about uh Notre Dame, it's it's keeping me from putting them in that top five spot, um, is that the every game it's a game, every team they played, and um they haven't played too good of a schedule.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, they were in a game against Wisconsin, they were in a game against North Carolina.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I I mean, even the Stanford game, who knows what's gonna happen, but they haven't come out there and just put a you know a 50 58 to 3 drubbing on somebody the way they should.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, I'm not quite sure what's going on there.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: I can't get a good read on these guys.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Well, let's move on to the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Tough 22-17 loss to the Jaguars.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Um, back-to-back losses for them.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: And um probably the biggest thing that jumps out is not so much the loss for me as the fact that both Chase and Higgins suffered injuries, and that is uh part of that three-headed monster with Joe Burrow.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just don't um, you know, uh a couple things here.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: I don't think T.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Higgins is built to go out there and throw up a 250-yard game with 15 receptions like Chase's.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, T is T is a skinny, big guy.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: He's strong, he's got big levers, he's quick, he's a great route runner, he is an elite wide receiver.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: But if you're asking him to go across the middle 15 times or catch that ball, you know, on the sidelines or do both, you know, I think he's gonna struggle a little bit.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: You know, Chase Chase ends up finally getting hurt on a uh face mask that pulled his basically his his whole entire helmet around sideways, and then the guy comes in and spears him afterwards.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's just it, it's just that's the things that happened to the Bengals.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: You know, uh it was clearly the worst game the Bengals have played by far, and it was a monumental defensive game effort by Jacksonville, and we only lost by five.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: We had a chance at the end of the game to win.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: We threw an interception, unfortunately.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, we just we can't have Joe Burrow dropping back and throwing 54 pass attempts like he did.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, he had 428 yards, um, but we stalled out.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: Uh we stalled out on several drives, a couple interceptions there.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: We had one interception on the 15-yard line.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Chase Brown, 10 yards rushing on nine carries.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: We only had 23 yards rushing on 15 carries.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Burrow this week, I saw an interview where he said they have to be more uh complimentary on offense with the running game.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Um, but yes, you're right.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: The injury um crisis at wide receiver is huge.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Um Chase was uh limited today at practice, which is a good sign, which all indications lead to him playing on Sunday.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Um who knows about T.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: He's got a groin and now a neck.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: Uh but Dante Myers and in and Tinsley are gonna have to step up.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: They really are.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Well, they got to get their running game going and excuse me, they um you know that was the you know, with uh Chase Brown, they had a chance that you know, and he got the ball last year.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: He he you know, he really took a lot of pressure off.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: And the thing that for me it doesn't have Burrow dropping back into pocket as much and taking hits if he's able to hand it off 50% of the time, it's gonna make it a little uh easier for Joe to play quarterback, and it'll make them more effective as an offensive team.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: True.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: And there's several things I want to add to that.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, number one, I gotta get this off my chest first.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: There's way too many penalties.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, the penalties are just, I mean, they're just ridiculous.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, we had a touchdown called back, um, which was a debatable holding call, which was absolutely terrible.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Um, but if you notice, the Bengals are going more and more under center now, whereas Joe Burrow used to just mainly go from the shotgun.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, we run out of the shotgun.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: Um now he's going back to underneath the center, and we got you know, a lot of our passing plays come from underneath the center.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: But here's what's happening when you go under the center, Kenny.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: If you have tendencies um like the Bengals are starting to create, and this is why every team is playing so good against us defensively, is we are putting the tight end on the side that the ball is going to be run to.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: So if you note our Hutt Hudson, sample, um, you know, uh Gasicki, all these guys, wherever the tight end's at, that's where the play's gonna go.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: And if you're a defensive coordinator, um, you know, your job is to get those tendencies.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: And if I can figure that out, um, Kenny, then somebody else can too.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: So we got to be able to mix things up um out of there and just be able to put put a couple wrinkles in um that's gonna be, you know, uh combat just being so predictable on offense.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Well, let me just get your thoughts on it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I know it's early, but uh you know, two and two, there's a long way to go in a season.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: But if the Bengals were to maybe get a wild card and struggle and have like a 500, maybe just above 500 season, I know the Bengals aren't known for for moving on from their coaches.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: How do you stand with with uh the head coach right now?
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Well, um, he's taking a lot of heat this week.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, the team not being prepared.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, you can't really blame injuries on a coach.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, I mean, we've been in position to be 4-0.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, if we were 4-0 right now, Kenny, I don't think that would surprise anybody.
- 20:26unknown: No.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, we had Pittsburgh beat.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Um, we had Jacksonville beat.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Um, uh, and it shouldn't surprise anybody, but you know, again, I keep re alluding to this.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: It's the Bengals factor.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: You know, it's all the other X factors out there that lie around uh that end up snipping us in the bud.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Now we have the fourth-ranked defense um as far as sack rate in the NFL.
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, who to thunk that?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And um we're getting BJ Hill back this week.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's the missed tackles in the secondary.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Um battle has just been absolutely brutal.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Um, the last game proved that.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Um we had Jacksonville, you know, third and eighteen, and you know, all they did was throw how many times have I said this on the SOB, Kenny?
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: If you want to beat the Bengals, all you gotta do is throw to the tight end in the middle of the field.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: And that's all they did.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: You know, every tight end that we play against has a record game against us.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: And you know, I don't know what's going on.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Al Golden, you know, he's got the defense playing somewhat well, but our linebackers have to do a better job of picking up the tight ends.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: And you know, I think it's just uh you know, they these guys are so good at, you know, they they they prep these guys for that uh this stuff, and they they know that hey, when things aren't going this guy's not here drop it to the tight end and that's gonna work for you because that's usually Why the teams that have a good tight end are successful and you know are winning a lot of football games.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Well, uh just look at the previous week when we played Pittsburgh.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, usually it's Pat Fryermouth that has 200 yards receiving and three touchdowns against us.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: Well, that week it was the big tall what is the name, Washington or whatever the kid's name was.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: 6'8, 395-pound tight end, you know, had had his career game against us.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: You know, the week before that, Houston, you know, their tight end did uh did very well.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: The week before that, um, you know, it's just one of those things, Kenny, where you know, at some point you have to basically here's the good thing about this, though.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Um, Jolie, the tight end for Miami, is out.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Uh Douglas, the wide receiver from Miami's out.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we might be catching Miami at the right time, but here's the X factor in that it's gonna be 86 to 90 degrees humid.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Um, that hurricane down there is um not gonna hit.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: It's north, but um, it's gonna be a 50 over a 50% chance of rain.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be tough.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt about that, that's for sure.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: But so uh Cincinnati is a six and a half point favorite.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: What do you got for a score on that one?
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: So I was thinking about this more.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Um I like Miami and the spread.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: I think the spread was six and a half.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but I got the Bengals winning this game 30 to 24.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Um, if we can establish the running game, um and I can't even tell you who the quarterback from Miami is, Kenny.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Is it uh Malik Willis?
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's go with that.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean if we let Malik Willis beat us, then I mean, you know, it's gonna be a long season, Kenny.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: In my mind, this is a win or Zach Taylor gets fired game, in my mind.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, especially with Miami being owned four right now and you know, trying to race to get to that uh number one draft pick.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: But uh I think the Bengals should be able to handle things.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: I got them winning 31 to uh 31-14 is my my prediction there.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna be okay this week, and you know, hopefully they can get their receivers back and and things get back to normal for them.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it I I agree.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: And the one last thing before we move on to a bright spot and the Cleveland Browns, but one last thing is you know, this is just this is the Bengals, you know, this is just something that we always have to deal with all the time.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, it just weighs on so many, so many people and so many things.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: And you know, I mean, there's such a there's such a razor-thin margin of error with the Cincinnati Bengals that you know, I mean, that other people don't don't really have to negotiate with.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, um Kenny, we are like two plays away from being 4-0.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: And we just can't get it done.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: And um, I don't know if that's coaching.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know, you know, really what that is.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm a lifelong fan, but um, you know, I've seen more Bengals games and you know, pretty much 95% of our audience out there.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, it's just it's just it's it's just wears on you, you know, season after season to see him stopping their toe and making the same mistakes over and over and over again.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Need to bring back Sam White.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: I met him, I met him at a baseball game in Furman.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: He was there to watch his grandson play.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: And one of the greatest, just nicest guys you could meet.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Talked forever.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: I still remember the uh wasn't it him that uh that uh grabbed the microphone and said we're not in Cleveland or something like that.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: It was.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Well, moving on, speaking of Cleveland, let uh they they get a 27-24 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night, and uh you know they they catch a nice little break and they got which I I'm still surprised that I'm even saying this that Watson has had three straight game-winning drives.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, they they they get the win against Pittsburgh and Aaron Rodgers, and uh I just uh being a Cleveland fan, you know, I sit there and just wonder, all right, when's it gonna stop?
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: You know, but then again, I don't know.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Maybe this is a year where things are different.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: What did you think of the Browns?
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Well, I I just think too, with the schedules that the Bengals and the Browns play, I mean, we should be in every every football game.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, we should be.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: And um three comeback wins, just you know what that shows me?
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: It shows grit.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: And but here's the thing, they are still the number one um in the NFL, the number one uh team in average penalties per game at almost 11 penalties per game.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: So they got to clean that up.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: I I mean, I think once they clean that up, Kenny, you're gonna see them win by even more.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, I you know, they that's just stupid penalties that um, you know, are they swarming to the ball?
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Are they opt to optim optim optimal you know, you know what I'm talking about?
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Uh I can't talk right now.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: I've been working so much lately.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, they uh they just really fortunate on defense, and you know, that safety that they got.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Um you know, the Warren guy, what's he's got a hyphenated name?
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Um McNeil Warren, I think, is his name.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Um wow, that kid's really good.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, you throw in the best linebacker too, Schweisinger.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Um, they got a great defensive front, even with Graham out.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Um, and they just totally bullied Aaron Rodgers.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think they had five sacks and two interceptions.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Uh here's the thing about Deshaun, too, is I, you know, I'm I'm seeing shades of him when he played it for the Texans.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: You know, if nothing's there, then he makes things happen with his uh legs.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I mean, that's tough for a defensive coordinator to prepare for a running quarterback.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean, let's face it, I mean, you've got a couple dynamic, dynamic young guys there.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, Boston and Judkins, I mean, those guys are impressive.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, you can build a team around those guys.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: That's just I think with Graham being out and Hall um being out, I mean, those are two of your defensive tackles.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: You know, playing up at New York.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Um, well, here's the bright side of that, Kenny, is I'm hearing Brees Hall, their number one running back, that dynamic back they got for the Jets.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: I'm hearing he may be out.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: He's questionable.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and if he's out, um with that weather forecast that's coming on Sunday, Kenny, for you guys, 61 degrees, cold, windy, um, 15 mile an hour winds, and 85% chance of rain.
- 29:48unknown: Oh.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: So, I mean, it's it's gonna be a run fest and it's gonna be the best defense.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: And if you ask me, that's gonna be that's gonna be Cleveland.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Judkins and your defense has to be Cleveland.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: Well, let me ask you this.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: With you know Watson turning things around.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's not like lighting it up, but he's he's turned it around.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: And do you think it's possible that he's like because he w he had that first half of the I'm trying to think of the game they won um where it was terrible.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: And then he goes in and he's you know, he's hearing it.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: And then you you turn around and then is it possible?
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: He just is like, I've heard everything that anyone could say about me.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: The fans are booing me.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: Just screw it.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna go out and just not care.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: And just maybe that's that's been the difference.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I I I think it's consistency.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, you I've been saying on the SOB for you know all season long that they just need to stick with this guy and go.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: They showed a picture of uh Shadur on the sideline after they had a big score and he was just standing there.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you saw that or not, but he wasn't you know cheering for the team or anything like that.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: And I think with Deshaun, I think what you're seeing is he's be I don't know if I want to say becoming is the right word, but he is managing the game a lot better.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, I mean when I'm saying managing, I'm like, it's okay to throw the ball away on third down.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: You're not throwing an interception, and you got to punt, and you're punting, and you're one of the best defenses in the NFL is gonna take the field.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: It's okay, you know.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: So I think he's managing the game better.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Um, he's figuring out, you know, hey, if I run, when I run two, you know, I can still throw the ball on a run.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: And he's got the arm to do that.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: So he's just gonna get better, Kenny.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, you you couldn't get worse from where he was at at the bottom there.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: And you know, I just think he's he's managing the game better.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: And the one stat that jumps out to me is you know, he was holding on to the ball way too long in the beginning.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: And I think Munkin is a totally different type of coach than Stefansky was, and he is, you know, he got after him a little bit, and you know, coaching hard, that's that's a good thing, in my opinion.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: And you know, he's getting rid of the ball a lot quicker.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, like you said, he's he's making some plays with his legs, and you know, I just think he uh he's more relaxed now.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: I mean it's his body language alone is just the way he's acting when he's out on the field.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: You know, he he's got the fans behind him, which I thought that wasn't gonna happen.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: But you know, I think that makes it a different game for him.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: And now they got to play the Jets, who are on a three-game losing streak.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: And you know, you talked about the defense, they have given up 12 sacks in the last three games.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: So hopefully the Browns are gonna be able to get to them and uh create more chaos for their offense.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Hey, I'm excited.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: Um, anytime you have the Steelers on the bottom of the AFC North standings, I'm I'm a fan of that.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: You know, it just sucks that the Bengals are right there with them.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: But um, you know, uh I I think with the Ravens too, with uh Lamar being out uh this week, um, you know, they're playing a tough resurgent Atlanta team right now.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, Atlanta's found a gear, man, um, with Michael Phoenix and Jr.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: in there.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: And you know, I it it uh there's a pot there's a chance that you know Cleveland could take a two-game lead here uh just by taking care of business Sunday.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Well that's uh that's gonna be uh fun to watch if if the weather's gonna be the way you're calling it.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: So but uh you know it was uh it's a fun time of the year that uh for the football.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: And you know, I wanted to see who did you have for your upset in your locks this week.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: So the upsets that I got this week are Nebraska plus seven and a half over Indiana.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: So um I believe that game's at Nebraska.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Excuse me, and I think seven and a half points.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Nebraska's gonna be the best team that Indiana's played um so far.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, you give them seven and a half points to start the game.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be that'll be interesting to see.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I also got UCLA getting 11 and a half points um going to Oregon and playing.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: So I've got UCLA in that one.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: Um my two NFL uh upsets are uh Miami plus six and a half.
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: I got Cincinnati winning the game, but take Miami in the points.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: Um and then Philadelphia for some reason is getting seven and a half points going to Jacksonville.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: And um I take the Eagles all day long plus seven and a half.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, you kind of are reading my mind on that UCLA getting 11 and a half, and UCLA, I believe they're uh they're undefeated right now, but getting 11 and a half, but they are playing at Oregon.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: Um getting a better idea what UCLA is going to be like, and I believe Oregon is still be uh going to use their their backup quarterback.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: And um, so I think UCLA might have a chance to to keep this game close.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: And then my lock, I got uh Texas given seven and a half to Oklahoma.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Uh Oklahoma is I was full early on.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: I thought they were good, but man, they're they're brutal.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: They're horrendous.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're horrendous.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, we watched that with Michigan.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: Um, speaking of speaking of Michigan, I mean, uh, do we call that one last week or what?
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, we killed it last week on our picks, Kenny.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Killed it.
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: So, you know, the the only one I missed, I think, was the Florida one.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Um but um, yeah, we did really, really well, and we're continuing to do good on those picks, and uh um you know, the underdog with the points seemed seemed to be the way to go.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, something I wanted to run by you was uh with Jeremiah Smith having a great career here at Ohio State, and it's you know, he just keeps getting better and better.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Do you have Jeremiah Smith on the Mount Rushmore of Ohio State football players?
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think anytime you break the um all the receiving records the way he did, um, I think you have to.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: Um, you have to put him up there with that Archie Griffin type, you know, mantra at Ohio State.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, my God, when he and he's not even done, Kenny.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, we're only uh five games into the season, and you know, he's got what, seven more to play and then the bowl playoffs or whatever.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: So um, I mean, you know, I I just think that he's he's uh like I said before, he's a generational type player, and um, we're not gonna see the likes of how he's uh in my mind, if you're not looking for a quarterback, in my mind, he's the overall number one pick.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: You know, the thing is, is I read a stat, I believe, where he's got more receiving yards than 12 teams in college football right now.
- 37:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh, you know, and and I, you know, I I gave Saiyan a bunch of crap a couple weeks ago about missing his number two, you know, checking down to his number two and three and how he just takes forever to do it um when Smith is not open or he's blanketed by two or three guys.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: And um I mean, how can you not look for him every single play?
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's like he gets open.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, it it's he's just like you know, 7-Eleven, Kenny.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's you know, he's always open.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: And I mean, this guy is just it's unbelievable that you know, I mean, that he can go out there and potentially catch a ball in every single play.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, we got to get Ennis and McEwen healthy, though.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: Um, that'll take a lot of uh you know, a lot of pressure off of him.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think that uh I think it was I I don't know if I it was someone saying it or if it was Ryan Day saying it, that if Jerma Jeremiah's single coverage, he's open.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: If he's in double coverage, he's open.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: And if they're triple covering him, you better get it to one of the other guys because somebody else is definitely gonna be open.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Somebody else has got to be open.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's only 11 guys on defense, and you know, you got to exploit that.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: So um I think we need we can use our tight ends a little bit better.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Um but I mean I I'm getting really nitpicky here.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, this is being really nitpicky.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, for all intent and purposes, you know, we play Texas 10 times, Kenny.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: We, you know, I think we win eight, nine of those.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: Uh honestly, I can honestly say that.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: I mean, we had that game one, you know, but I I just, you know, the these Maryland's Maryland's not gonna be a slouch.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know, that's a game that we should definitely win by a lot.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: But these those three after that, to me, that's really gonna tell the tale of where we're at.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, I mentioned the Mount Rushmore, and you said Jeremiah's on there.
- 39:29SPEAKER_01: Who do you have as the other three?
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Um, well, you gotta put Archie on there.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I think um I think you gotta put um Eddie, Eddie George on there.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Um I just think he was just one of those fabulous backs that you know, un unbelievable.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Um you know, the other one I would say I'm looking for a uh a defensive guy.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Like um you could you could put Spielman on there.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: Um I think Spielman's a face of you know, Columbus too as well.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: You know, you get Archie, Eddie George, Chris Spielman.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, we've had some other great quarterbacks too, Kenny.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh Barrett was Barrett was great.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, JT Barrett was just wow, was he a great quarterback?
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna throw a name at you, Orlando Pace.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, who's to say?
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's our it's our mountain.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Why can't we put our why can't we put five up there?
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Orlando gotta throw a defensive guy out there, you know.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, Kuzna, I mean, uh yeah, I I just think I think Spielman has to be up there.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: I think Orlando, you're right, Eddie George, Archie, obviously, with the two Heismans.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: JT won JT Bear won a Heisman.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, it wasn't JT, it was Troy Smith.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Or Troy Smith, excuse me.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: And um, who's the quarterback you see all the time working out, Kenny?
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's Braxton Miller.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: Braxton Miller.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's no slouch right there.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: You know, you're right, Troy Smith.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: It was Troy Smith.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, that kid was dynamic, you know.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: So um, I don't know.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: Those are my guys.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: You got anybody different?
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: No, I I like what you had to say there.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: I I would definitely put Orlando Pace.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: Another lineman you can think about is John Hicks.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: He was he finished in the Heisman race.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: Uh you know, you got Rex Kern.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: Um there's a lot of good ones out there, that's for sure.
- 41:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, it would be tough to pick.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: What about Woody?
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: Why can't we put Woody up there?
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would uh you gotta have Woody up there, I would think.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: You know, so you put Jim Trussell up there too, you know, won a national champ.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: All the guys that won a national championship, you know?
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: Let's just make a whole big, big, uh, big row of them up there.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: Herb, put the herb up there.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Well, let me finish on this one here.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: You've coached for a long time, and you've had an assistant where maybe they're calling pitches for you, and you're like, is he just not getting it done?
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: Colorado State's defensive coordinator wasn't getting it done this past weekend, and the coach uh Mora, he decided to turn over the play calling defensive play calling duties to another guy, and the coach walks out.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: He's like, I'm done.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: What did you make of that?
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: You know, I was I was um I was kind of torn on that one, to be honest with you.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think I think there's a right and a wrong way to do that.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe you could have done that at halftime, you know, and um just I think that's when it did.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: It did.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: He told him at halftime, I believe.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: He did tell him at halftime.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, then maybe maybe that was better.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: But you know, I just something about you know changing changing up play calling duties uh right in the middle of a game.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: I just, you know, I just don't I don't know if I if I'm into that or not, especially on the coaching level.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: You know, player-wise, I mean you see it happen all the time.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: You know, quarterbacks not getting it done, you put in the backup or whatever.
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: But um, I'm torn on that one, Kenny, to be honest with you.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: I just don't think, you know, uh, I mean, you saw the guy's game plan all week long.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: If you had a problem with it, you should have said something.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: So I just, you know, I I'm not sure on that one.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh coaching wise, it's just it I don't people just don't realize how tough it is to be a coach out there today.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, it really is.
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, uh, and for what we did, Kenny, you know, the pay and everything else, and you know, uh you gotta please, you know, umpteen people, but it's just tough to it's tough to do.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: It really is.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Well the thing is, I think there's there's more to it than just the first half of that game because the defensive coordinator, he was the interim head coach and he was in the running to get the job and give it to Mora.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: And they asked him to keep this guy around.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: So I just think that there's there's got to be something more to it that it wasn't just that first half of play calling.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: It was kind of like a little bit of uh the first first half of Remember the Titans there where the uh former coach was the assistant.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: Now that that changes things for me.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: Because number one, I want, you know, I I wanted my own staff in there.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: You know, I mean uh and and number two is you know, what's an AD telling me, hey, you got to keep this guy on your staff, you know, right there, that throws a red flag up to me already.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that that one's a little weird.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: I didn't know that in that that part of it.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I'm not sure if it was the AD told him or if more just said, hey, I'm gonna keep you around if you want to stay.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure which one it is.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, but I just think that the the guy's like, I I should have been the head coach and you know, screw it, I'm out of here.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: I just can't imagine him leaving at halftime and beating the traffic, getting home, and his wife's like, game's still going on.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: What the what's going on here?
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: What are you doing home?
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: That's a little awkward.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: So um I'd like to hear more about that story.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: Um, that's for sure.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: Be a 30 for 30 one of these days, I'm sure.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Well, do you have any other uh things that uh you want to talk about this week that we could Kenny?
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: I'm just glad you got home safe last week.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: I know you were at the Savannah airport and you didn't get into like 12:30.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if did I was meaning to ask you, did you were you able to stream the Browns game or how did that work out?
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: I I caught some of it, but it was uh you know, I had to catch a couple different flights, end up in Philadelphia and then back home.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: But uh I saw the most important part when they they won.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: I was riding that that uh crazy bus that you have to take to get to your car.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: So I saw that, and everybody's looking at me when I'm yelling in on the bus.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: But uh, I I I could sacrifice getting to see the whole game if if we get a Browns win.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: So I'll take that.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Now I gotta sit there and bite my fingernails and hope the uh Cleveland in baseball can uh get a win tonight against uh against the uh Chicago White Sox, but it's tough when you got the Pope on their side and they're playing at home.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: You can't fight against the Pope, Kenny.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: You can't do it.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: There's some divine intervention going on there.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Without a doubt, without a doubt.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess that puts a wrap on this week.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: And uh to uh say that it's going to be another good week of football.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Let's let's enjoy it before the weather starts getting too cold here in Ohio.
- 47:08SPEAKER_01: And as always, I'm Ken Carpenter.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: I'm Chris Usman.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Thanks for listening to the Scarlet Orange and Brown Podcast.
