- The Jays steady it! This is The Sports Reset for Friday July 24th In MLB, The Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3 to 1, and Shane Bieber gave Toronto exactly what it needed: seven innings of one-run, three-hit ball with no walks. George Springer reached three times and drove in a run, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added two singles and an RBI, and Toronto avoided the four-game sweep after a rough run out of the break. The Atlanta Braves held off the San Diego Padres 6 to 5, with Chris Sale striking out 11 over six innings and Atlanta getting four homers, including Dominic Smith’s three-run shot. The Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Guardians 3 to 1 in 12 innings, with Trevor Larnach and Luke Keaschall driving in the late runs. The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10 to 6 behind a three-hit, home-run day from Tyler Locklear, and the Detroit Tigers edged the Kansas City Royals 4 to 3 on Dillon Dingler’s eighth-inning double. Looking ahead, the CFL has already delivered the finish of the day, with the Edmonton Elks beating the Saskatchewan Roughriders 36 to 34 after Cody Fajardo threw for 510 yards and four touchdowns, and Vincent Blanchard won it with a 57-yard field goal as time expired. In MLB, The Jays head to Fenway Park to open against the Boston Red Sox, while the New York Yankees visit the Philadelphia Phillies and the Los Angeles Dodgers take the road-star spotlight into Citi Field against the New York Mets. The Dodgers bring one of baseball’s strongest profiles into that matchup, sitting near the top of the league in runs, OPS, ERA, WHIP, and batting average against, with Roki Sasaki lined up opposite Sean Manaea. In golf, Ben Kohles carries a two-shot lead into the 3M Open after an opening 62, while Lauren Coughlin and Jenny Shin share the LPGA Scottish Open lead at 6 under heading toward the weekend.
