- 0:00Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Good morning. It's Cubby and Christine. Don't
- 0:04Speaker 1: roll over and go back to sleep. I know you
- 0:06Speaker 1: want to. I know it was so hard to get
- 0:08Speaker 1: up this morning, right?
- 0:09Speaker 2: It's that time of year.
- 0:10Speaker 1: The temperature drops and it just all changes. And I
- 0:13Speaker 1: know I was just walking down the hallway and I
- 0:15Speaker 1: overheard your conversation with Jim Kerr. Oh, yeah.
- 0:19Speaker 2: We were at the coffee machine.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Our beloved neighbor.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And you guys were both saying how you just were tired. Why?
- 0:26Speaker 1: I said, how are.
- 0:27Speaker 2: You feeling today?
- 0:28Speaker 1: Any news?
- 0:28Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm tired and I don't know why.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. That's what I want.
- 0:33Speaker 2: The quick answer would be, well, we know why.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We get up at 3.30 in the morning. But it's
- 0:39Speaker 2: an extra tired today. Yes. And I really think it
- 0:41Speaker 2: has to do with the whole coolness of the air
- 0:45Speaker 2: and the late sunrise.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what Jim said. It's dark and early.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Back to dark and early. Yep. There's a little science
- 0:52Speaker 1: behind it too, Cubby. The temperature change affects how long
- 0:57Speaker 1: it takes to fall asleep. So because it's fluctuating right now,
- 1:01Speaker 1: you might not be getting the cues that you need
- 1:04Speaker 1: to fall asleep a little bit sooner to work things out.
- 1:07Speaker 1: And you might put too many blankets on the bed.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And remember, you're supposed to keep the room cooler, right?
- 1:13Speaker 1: So you can fall asleep. You've got shorter days, darker
- 1:15Speaker 1: evenings can also make you feel sleepier earlier. So like
- 1:20Speaker 1: our whole circadian rhythm is changing at the moment. So
- 1:23Speaker 1: we're a little thrown. The darker mornings make just, it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: just harder to get out of bed. Right.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, it's helping for the kids, I'll tell you that.
- 1:29Speaker 2: If you have a six and a four-year-old like myself
- 1:32Speaker 2: or a five and a three-year-old like producer Kristen, the
- 1:36Speaker 2: fact that it's going down, you know, earlier.
- 1:38Speaker 1: That the sun is going down.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The sun's going down earlier. Yeah. It's so helpful. Right.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Because the kids are getting the cue at like 6.30, like, okay,
- 1:45Speaker 2: it's nighttime now.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You got to go to bed now.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Or two months ago, it was impossible.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Because that's melatonin, like naturally releasing in your systems. So
- 1:53Speaker 1: we apparently have more of it this time of year
- 1:56Speaker 1: because it's like kicking off earlier. So that's why you
- 1:59Speaker 1: get that it's a little harder to get out of
- 2:01Speaker 1: bed in the morning.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And that's why I'm on coffee number four.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I've been up since 3.30.
- 2:06Speaker 1: A lot of us may be less active during the
- 2:09Speaker 1: colder months. You know, we're not going out and running around.
- 2:12Speaker 1: So that cuts back on our energy and our sleep
- 2:15Speaker 1: quality and then changes in diet and eating patterns. So
- 2:19Speaker 1: we tend to eat heavier meals regularly. late in the
- 2:22Speaker 1: evening and we want comfort foods because we're, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: dealing with weather conditions, that takes longer to digest and
- 2:29Speaker 1: can disrupt sleep as well. Sleep experts advise eating on
- 2:33Speaker 1: the earlier side and making sure you're getting plenty of
- 2:35Speaker 1: fiber during the fall.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Well, I love eating on the early side, that's for sure.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, me too. Blue plate special, four o'clock, let's go.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, four o'clock, dinner time, nothing beats it.
