- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: patri Get's Unfiltered. No Fred today. Just this is Paul
- 0:15Speaker 1: and Mike. This is the A one team A one.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I like the original A team was, was it? We
- 0:20Speaker 1: know who that was? But you're right there, Duce. Yeah,
- 0:23Speaker 1: we haven't really grilled Evan yet on the practice report too,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Like what's the mood? I don't have mood on all
- 0:27Speaker 1: twenty two? Yeah, have you been on the show, the
- 0:30Speaker 1: whole show or did you come of You just came
- 0:31Speaker 1: in from Oh you just came in. Good, so I
- 0:34Speaker 1: didn't miss much? How disrespectful to us. Well, and before
- 0:38Speaker 1: you came in, Fred, I know that you didn't really
- 0:40Speaker 1: care about anything until practice was over. But because you
- 0:43Speaker 1: said you didn't miss anything, and because Evan just got
- 0:45Speaker 1: you like the rocket track, you took it me and
- 0:47Speaker 1: Mike very very hurt. Mike brings up Robert evidently he said,
- 0:50Speaker 1: you know, took note of it, seem in the owner's box.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Was like, no, no, no, hat right little pencil born
- 0:57Speaker 1: question mark? Question mark, question mark? If you want to
- 1:00Speaker 1: tell me that they weren't a problem. I want to
- 1:02Speaker 1: disagree with that. You want to tell me they weren't
- 1:03Speaker 1: as big a problem as the offense tell you both.
- 1:06Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All Right, welcome
- 1:12Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It's Thursday here at Gillette Stadium, and
- 1:16Speaker 1: it's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Paul, it's myself, and it's
- 1:20Speaker 1: Matt and the booth, and we're gonna be talking Patriots
- 1:22Speaker 1: for the next two hours plus. We're gonna be doing
- 1:25Speaker 1: our weekly picks, of which I had an historically bad week.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I just want to apologize because evidently I didn't offer
- 1:34Speaker 1: the instructions properly last week. I thought it went on
- 1:37Speaker 1: said that we were trying to win the games, not
- 1:40Speaker 1: not all um contestants in the contest. Yeah, I said,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I've lost that NFL feeling week ones. I don't have it.
- 1:49Speaker 1: You put new excuse, new methodology, you're installing a new methodology. Yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I changed all the terminology on myself before. I Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 1: sharp parlance. Yeah, I no excuses, just a bad week,
- 2:02Speaker 1: all right. Anyway, Um, so what do we got? What
- 2:05Speaker 1: do we got? We got the Steelers, So we're going
- 2:08Speaker 1: to Pittsburgh on Sunday for a big game and uh yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 1: diving a little more into Pittsburgh. Their offense is pretty
- 2:14Speaker 1: bad too. It made me feel like I'm used to
- 2:17Speaker 1: watching it, you know, not really having weapons and feeling like,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I mean, these guys have weapons, and it's like you
- 2:21Speaker 1: just feel like Trabisky can't can't get it to them
- 2:24Speaker 1: at all. I mean, you know, it was as much
- 2:25Speaker 1: as it was a struggle with the Patriots, it was
- 2:27Speaker 1: a struggle with the Steelers too, So maybe you have
- 2:29Speaker 1: a little bit more confidence that they'll find something with
- 2:31Speaker 1: with those guys, they'd certainly have talented receiver, but so
- 2:34Speaker 1: they look frustrated. So given that whoever wins this game,
- 2:38Speaker 1: how many points do they need to score? Is it
- 2:41Speaker 1: like it's twenty two? I think number that's the number
- 2:44Speaker 1: of the like low twenties. I think I probably probably do.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I mean, every prediction I've seen mostly are in the seventeen, fourteen,
- 2:49Speaker 1: sixteen thirteen. So if you get in the twenties, you
- 2:52Speaker 1: win this game. Is that what we're saying? I mean,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I think, oh, come on, that's I mean, pick a
- 3:00Speaker 1: sixteen thirty out of the right now, I'll keep the
- 3:04Speaker 1: suspense and let you know who I think is it's
- 3:06Speaker 1: kind of a Burman's score sixteen thirteen. Yeah, it's regular.
- 3:10Speaker 1: It's a little bit. Yeah, you know. I mean it
- 3:12Speaker 1: makes sense to me given what we saw last week
- 3:14Speaker 1: from from both of these offenses. It was a great
- 3:16Speaker 1: scoring college football a couple of weeks ago, Iowa won
- 3:19Speaker 1: a game seven to three. Yeah, with a field goal
- 3:22Speaker 1: and two safeties. Wow, that's great. Yeah, that's that's something
- 3:27Speaker 1: sounds normal, but it's didn't really, they didn't really get
- 3:29Speaker 1: their conventional methodology. Yep. So, Um, so we think it's
- 3:34Speaker 1: gonna be a low scoring game, do we? I think so?
- 3:37Speaker 1: I think too. To point out Jawan Bentley missed practice
- 3:40Speaker 1: yesterday with a toe injury. I think that's significant. We'll see, Um,
- 3:44Speaker 1: Evan will stop in and say hello after practice. We'll
- 3:46Speaker 1: see if he's able to get out there today. But
- 3:48Speaker 1: I thought he was, you know, one of the bright
- 3:50Speaker 1: spots on the defense. I think he's been one of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the bright spots on the defense all kind of preseason.
- 3:54Speaker 1: So I think that'd be a little bit of a blow. Um.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I wasn't here right away when Evan came, but was
- 4:01Speaker 1: yesterday A padded practice. Who I think so, yeah, it
- 4:05Speaker 1: was that you didn't we didn't ask him the mood.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I know, we didn't. We didn't have the problem. Mike
- 4:10Speaker 1: had mentioned that we don't have Fred to get all
- 4:13Speaker 1: of the because they had pads on. Alex was there. Okay,
- 4:19Speaker 1: so that's a good thing because Adrian Phillips was out
- 4:22Speaker 1: there and he was limited. Yeah, but the rim if
- 4:25Speaker 1: if it was usually if it was if he was
- 4:27Speaker 1: going to be out like padded practice, he wouldn't be
- 4:29Speaker 1: out there, you know, right, if it was a walk through,
- 4:32Speaker 1: then everybody is usually there. But if you know, so,
- 4:34Speaker 1: that's a good sign for Phillips. Definitely a good sign.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I mean, I think the Bentley thing just took me
- 4:38Speaker 1: by surprise. He didn't really see him get dinged at
- 4:41Speaker 1: all during the during the game. So well, when they
- 4:44Speaker 1: say so if it's that turf toe, those things can linger. Yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, speaking of like Marcus Cannon, who they just
- 4:50Speaker 1: signed to the practice squad, was a victim of that
- 4:53Speaker 1: at least at least once, maybe twice in his career,
- 4:56Speaker 1: where you know, three or four games it's like it's
- 4:58Speaker 1: a toe injury, get back. But those things can be tough. Yeah,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know, yeah, those things that linger hamstrings, those kind
- 5:05Speaker 1: of early Yeah, bizarre. What exactly is turf toe? I've
- 5:09Speaker 1: never actually I think it's torn ligament in your toe,
- 5:11Speaker 1: isn't it. Yeah, I think, yeah, something like that. I
- 5:13Speaker 1: think it bends back a certain way and tears the ligaments.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's very painful. It sounds a lot less worse than
- 5:19Speaker 1: it actually probably is. Like turf toe. It sounds kind
- 5:21Speaker 1: of right, Oh, get green stuff on my toe? No,
- 5:24Speaker 1: it's it's on the turf. Yeah. I don't know why
- 5:26Speaker 1: they call it turf toe, but it's it's a like
- 5:28Speaker 1: a Yeah, it's a very painful injury. Yeah. Well, hopefully
- 5:31Speaker 1: it's not that. Maybe he just got stepped on and
- 5:33Speaker 1: he's got a tonnail issue or something. Yeah, hangnail, hangnail.
- 5:37Speaker 1: That sounds worse. Um all right, so we got that.
- 5:41Speaker 1: We had our first UM practice participation report yesterday and
- 5:46Speaker 1: um mac spoke at the podium yesterday. What did you
- 5:51Speaker 1: think about what he was saying. Yeah, it sounds sounds
- 5:54Speaker 1: like he's good to go for the most part. I mean,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I don't know how much he's being limited as a
- 5:58Speaker 1: full participant. As Paul kind of predicted, but there was
- 6:02Speaker 1: one question I definitely waffled though. After Bill's press conference,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I predicted it and then Bill was like, I don't know,
- 6:08Speaker 1: we'll see it. I was like, oh, maybe I'm wrong, maybe,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and then you know, he was full participant, like it
- 6:12Speaker 1: was nothing. There was one question that he was asked
- 6:16Speaker 1: that It's not that the answer wasn't expected, but the
- 6:19Speaker 1: way he answered it gave me optimism him. The question was,
- 6:23Speaker 1: you know, they're talking about the mistakes that were made,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and he's like, are they fixable? And bang he was like, yes, absolutely,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know, so of course he's gonna say that. But
- 6:33Speaker 1: the way he said it, I was like, Okay, he
- 6:36Speaker 1: honestly believes that they're fixable. He's not just saying that
- 6:40Speaker 1: because I agree. I do, but I also would say, like,
- 6:44Speaker 1: there's really not there's no such thing really as a
- 6:48Speaker 1: non fixable. Well, if you're the quarterback and in your
- 6:51Speaker 1: heart you believe I don't have guys around me, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you might hesitate, you might you know, so on a
- 6:58Speaker 1: podium in front of the media especially, I don't. I
- 7:02Speaker 1: just don't see it. There's one answer there, and it's yes, no,
- 7:05Speaker 1: I know, But it's how it's how you say, we're
- 7:08Speaker 1: going into week two of an NFL season, the problem
- 7:11Speaker 1: is correctable. I don't really think no, no, no no, But
- 7:12Speaker 1: if I don't see if you think your offensive line
- 7:16Speaker 1: truly stinks, you're not gonna say you might know. I
- 7:20Speaker 1: didn't say that. I said, of course, the answer he
- 7:23Speaker 1: gave is the only answer. But it's how he said it.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But what I'm saying is that's the only way he
- 7:27Speaker 1: can say. I think there's other ways. And I'm not
- 7:30Speaker 1: telling you that he thinks that it's fixable. I think
- 7:32Speaker 1: he believes it's fix I am a keen observer of
- 7:35Speaker 1: the human condition. Okay, well, the last half hour of
- 7:40Speaker 1: the show, we're gonna dispute not the human condition. That's
- 7:43Speaker 1: not the human I I can detect the slightest hesitation,
- 7:47Speaker 1: and there was nothing was like. But I what I'm
- 7:49Speaker 1: telling you is I wouldn't expect anybody to give a
- 7:52Speaker 1: slight hesitation. I'm with Alex on this, like there's First
- 7:56Speaker 1: of all, let me stay I don't think that he
- 7:58Speaker 1: doubts that they can fix it. I think he's the
- 7:59Speaker 1: quarter back of the team. I think he believes they
- 8:01Speaker 1: can fix it. I think you're right I think he
- 8:04Speaker 1: believes it can be fixed. I'm just telling you, I
- 8:06Speaker 1: don't know an example of a guy who plays in
- 8:09Speaker 1: the NFL who doesn't think they can have success. I'm
- 8:11Speaker 1: gonna play this week, but I don't think I can
- 8:12Speaker 1: do it. I don't think the guys around me you
- 8:14Speaker 1: are good. Now he might eventually to and how they
- 8:18Speaker 1: do after. I think he didn't think that they could win.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I think I think he cut to a point where
- 8:23Speaker 1: he was worried. Of course, of course he was worried.
- 8:27Speaker 1: But they went twelve and four. But but do you
- 8:29Speaker 1: think that he had that immediate He didn't think it
- 8:32Speaker 1: was like the best team that he's had. Yeah, and
- 8:34Speaker 1: you could detect that from his answers, right right, I
- 8:38Speaker 1: didn't detect anything like that from that, because so this
- 8:41Speaker 1: is better than that? Then No, I'm saying Mac is
- 8:44Speaker 1: more sure than Tom was. I'm saying Mac is more
- 8:47Speaker 1: confident than Tom was. I said, I think you're out
- 8:49Speaker 1: of your mind. But that's okay. I feel like too,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Like he's been given the same press conference for about
- 8:54Speaker 1: a month and a half now at this point of like,
- 8:55Speaker 1: you guys never really made able to do anything. You
- 8:57Speaker 1: think you're gonna be able to. I mean, that's kind
- 8:58Speaker 1: of been the gym. Yeah, and I think, you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: the next time we go out there, you know, we'll
- 9:02Speaker 1: be better in I don't know. I was actually there,
- 9:04Speaker 1: so I was I was actually here like working, so
- 9:08Speaker 1: you know, you can say what you want. You know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: at least I was present. It's a good point for
- 9:16Speaker 1: that was so anyway, anyway, I figured that would get
- 9:21Speaker 1: a rise out of everybody. Yeah, I do. I do
- 9:24Speaker 1: agree with your premise. I think he believes that it's fixable.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I mean a lot of the issues seem at least
- 9:29Speaker 1: like offensive wise, seem like disciplinary communication. So you hope
- 9:34Speaker 1: that that's a quick answer that yeah we can. Now
- 9:36Speaker 1: here's what I'm gonna play the other side of the fence.
- 9:39Speaker 1: We know that mistakes happened, you know, whether they're pre
- 9:43Speaker 1: snap mistakes, turnovers, communication, Every team in every game makes them.
- 9:49Speaker 1: This team right now is not good enough to overcome them.
- 9:53Speaker 1: That's the problem. Like the best team in the league
- 9:56Speaker 1: has communication breakdowns, they have pre snap penalty, they have
- 10:00Speaker 1: a turnover or two, but they overcome them. It's not
- 10:03Speaker 1: a big deal for us right now. Every mistake is
- 10:08Speaker 1: a big deal. That's the problem. It's a good point.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I forget who said it on Tuesday, but one of
- 10:13Speaker 1: you guys said that this isn't a team where like
- 10:15Speaker 1: the personnel can make up for those mistakes, so you
- 10:18Speaker 1: almost have to play perfectly just to be like even
- 10:21Speaker 1: incompetitive and yeah, yeah, and you saw too, I mean
- 10:24Speaker 1: the takeaways, you know, like they mean they didn't get
- 10:26Speaker 1: any takeaways and that, I mean, that's all we've seen
- 10:29Speaker 1: in the last couple of years that they need. That
- 10:31Speaker 1: that needs to be the boost that they need to
- 10:33Speaker 1: kind of help them produce some feel position or at
- 10:36Speaker 1: the least point was it was it the Bengals that
- 10:38Speaker 1: have five turnovers in the first half yet last week
- 10:40Speaker 1: or something like that. Well, I don't know when they
- 10:42Speaker 1: all they had five turnovers and they got sacked seven times,
- 10:45Speaker 1: right and they and they still should have one thing,
- 10:47Speaker 1: we're still in the game and overtime. Yeah, I mean again,
- 10:50Speaker 1: Pittsburgh's offense was I mean, like inside the ten yard line,
- 10:54Speaker 1: like it's a grind, same thing. It's Cincinnati's defense is
- 10:58Speaker 1: pretty good, um, but yeah, I mean, yeah, Pittsburgh doesn't
- 11:01Speaker 1: have much offense. And the one thing that I'll say
- 11:03Speaker 1: about the whole I think we all think low scoring,
- 11:06Speaker 1: you know. I see Current has a thing up right
- 11:08Speaker 1: now saying he thinks that Pittsburgh will be hard pressed
- 11:10Speaker 1: to hit double double digits. I agree. Turnovers can always
- 11:14Speaker 1: be the equalizer and all that stuff, you know. And
- 11:17Speaker 1: for a for as bad as Pittsburgh's offense was, they
- 11:19Speaker 1: get ended up with twenty whatever was it, twenty three points,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know when at the end of the day, because
- 11:25Speaker 1: the other team turned the ball over five times. That's
- 11:27Speaker 1: how they got most of their points. One of them
- 11:28Speaker 1: was a pick six. It was like the second second
- 11:31Speaker 1: play of the game, I think says nothing. So if
- 11:33Speaker 1: the Patriots go out there and turn the ball over,
- 11:35Speaker 1: then Pittsburgh is probably going to be in the mid
- 11:36Speaker 1: twenties again, you know. And if conversely, if Pittsburgh does that,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I think the Patriots will be up in the mid
- 11:42Speaker 1: twenties or higher. That's always the equalizer. Yeah, that's that's
- 11:46Speaker 1: a little bit. Why I'm leaning Pittsburgh by a slight
- 11:49Speaker 1: edge is just I think their defense is a little
- 11:52Speaker 1: bit more just rub I mean, the production last week
- 11:54Speaker 1: speaks for itself, but I think the Patriots defense will
- 11:57Speaker 1: have to outproduce the Pittsburgh defens on the other side.
- 12:00Speaker 1: In terms of feel position, stop, are you surprised that
- 12:03Speaker 1: the Patriots are, you know, as far as the Sharp's
- 12:06Speaker 1: concern favorite in this game, I'm definitely surprised. But I
- 12:09Speaker 1: mean I do feel because of just T J. Watts out.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think they looked at both offenses it
- 12:14Speaker 1: felt like they stunk. But I still don't get it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I still don't get it. I mean, I think Fittsburgh should.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I mean, it's like a little because you get three.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So really the Patriots are four and a half point favorites. Sorry,
- 12:26Speaker 1: I accurately predicted that that line would come up today
- 12:29Speaker 1: joining this show. Um, but I but I agree with you, friend,
- 12:34Speaker 1: I think it's a little bit of an odd line,
- 12:36Speaker 1: like so, but why, like what do they know? What
- 12:39Speaker 1: the sharps? What do they know? Do they? I mean,
- 12:41Speaker 1: I was going to bring up the sharps of the
- 12:43Speaker 1: gambling Patriots history idea? Is that what it's called? I've editor,
- 12:52Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to be the getting getting
- 12:58Speaker 1: What are the sharp snow ports? Like? At one point
- 13:01Speaker 1: last week, I think she was stressing so much about
- 13:03Speaker 1: her picks and Fred goes, you know, there's no ramifications.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You got them wrong. It's just maybe some guys at
- 13:09Speaker 1: home listening to us Bett and his kid's college tuition
- 13:11Speaker 1: on her picks. Yeah, I hope, but I felt for
- 13:13Speaker 1: it because I think she was really like she probably
- 13:17Speaker 1: agonizing over every single game she I mean everybody, But Fred, seriously,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I don't ever remember in the history of our contest
- 13:24Speaker 1: a week that you've had. I know I had. I'll
- 13:26Speaker 1: just I'll get lay that out there for the teams
- 13:28Speaker 1: for later on. When I go bad, I go bad
- 13:33Speaker 1: it tweek one, tweek one. It's a process. I'm in
- 13:37Speaker 1: a holeville now, I can tell you that much. Anyway. So, yeah,
- 13:41Speaker 1: I was surprised. Point and a half is what I'm hearing,
- 13:44Speaker 1: you know. But I think, I mean, I think everybody's
- 13:46Speaker 1: kind of in the same ballpark of teens to teens.
- 13:49Speaker 1: I mean, I haven't seen anybody out of the teens
- 13:51Speaker 1: and in a close game, but you just would think,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you know, two similar teams, right, right. But to Fred's point,
- 13:59Speaker 1: I don't think that they view these similar teams on
- 14:02Speaker 1: the same exact level. I think in Vegas anyway, it's
- 14:05Speaker 1: viewed that the Patriots are above Yeah. So we'll see
- 14:08Speaker 1: it's weird. Yeah, I mean, I don't know how you
- 14:10Speaker 1: look at that Pittsburgh defense and not pick them too well,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I guess. I mean, I guess they see think that
- 14:16Speaker 1: there's some hope with the Patriots offense and there's none
- 14:19Speaker 1: with the Pittsburgh offense. Maybe I don't know, you know,
- 14:23Speaker 1: I was thinking about it too, Like, I mean, I
- 14:25Speaker 1: think like the game plans against Pittsburgh during the you know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: the Old Dynasty years were always so interesting to me
- 14:31Speaker 1: of you know, a lot of trying to use their
- 14:34Speaker 1: aggression against them, trying you know, um, misdirections stuff. The
- 14:38Speaker 1: wide receiver passed to Moss in Oh seven that was
- 14:42Speaker 1: Anthony Smith, was that when they went after him the
- 14:45Speaker 1: branch catching in the Old four championship, Like they just
- 14:48Speaker 1: they always seem to kind of know how a bead
- 14:50Speaker 1: for what this defense does. And I'm just I'll be
- 14:53Speaker 1: interested to see are they still able to do those things?
- 14:55Speaker 1: Everything we talked about yesterday with you know, there's not
- 14:58Speaker 1: a lot of creativity. It feels like coming up the
- 15:00Speaker 1: play call, are those things going to exist? You know?
- 15:02Speaker 1: Are there is there going to be little trick plays,
- 15:04Speaker 1: a little you know misdirection, more screen passes, trying to
- 15:08Speaker 1: get them coming up field and get behind them, those
- 15:10Speaker 1: kind of things. I just you know, we became so
- 15:13Speaker 1: familiar with how they've attacked this defense in the past.
- 15:15Speaker 1: What does it look like now after all the flak
- 15:17Speaker 1: that they've taken for their offensive game plan last week
- 15:20Speaker 1: that you know, lacked imagination and diversity and all those things.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I remember last year or even the year before, we
- 15:25Speaker 1: criticize the people, Well, they have to use trick plays
- 15:27Speaker 1: in order to you know, get momentum. They can't just
- 15:30Speaker 1: do it, you know, they're not good enough. Yeah, now
- 15:32Speaker 1: they don't have those. I mean, that was Pittsburgh last
- 15:34Speaker 1: week too, which had like a double reverse play. It
- 15:36Speaker 1: was one of their best. To Mike's point, though, like
- 15:37Speaker 1: we're talking about an end a round for Dion Branch
- 15:40Speaker 1: in the four AFC Championship game, in a game that
- 15:42Speaker 1: they had forty one points. You know, like the Oh
- 15:45Speaker 1: seven team didn't need trick plays just to break it
- 15:48Speaker 1: the all time record for points scored, right last year,
- 15:50Speaker 1: That's how they scored their points. I know, Like, how
- 15:52Speaker 1: did the nineteen thirty three on them in the opener?
- 15:55Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? Like that. That was
- 15:57Speaker 1: the night. Remember we were all like because there was
- 16:00Speaker 1: some trepidation about where are they going to find the offense? Yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and in nineteen and then all of a sudden everything
- 16:05Speaker 1: looked great. That night you had and they had just
- 16:08Speaker 1: signed Antonio Brown. You're like, we're gonna have him next week?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Remember that week? Well that was then during the broadcast
- 16:13Speaker 1: we had we remember they what was the year we
- 16:16Speaker 1: had we had Gordon that we signed? We had Antonio Brown,
- 16:20Speaker 1: right and whoever you know, Edelman, Gronk. We were like Thomas, Yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 1: that was that was later. I don't think Josh Gordon
- 16:28Speaker 1: and Antonio Brown didn't overlap, did they didn't they? I mean,
- 16:32Speaker 1: Josh Gordon was here in nineteen. I lost track with
- 16:34Speaker 1: his suspensions, but I think I don't know if I
- 16:36Speaker 1: just thought it was eight I thought down the stretch
- 16:38Speaker 1: of the eighteen season was the year where you got
- 16:40Speaker 1: suspended and they didn't have him in the playoffs, but
- 16:42Speaker 1: maybe that they had him at some point in nineteen CTE.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I think a lot of a lot of like suspensions
- 16:47Speaker 1: and stuff too final he makes it hard to remember.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Mac Jones so moment Rhode Island, says Turf toe was
- 16:55Speaker 1: simply a sprain of the toe. I received this injury
- 16:57Speaker 1: in my very first indoor soccer game. Uh. It still
- 17:01Speaker 1: bothers me to this day. The problem is that it
- 17:04Speaker 1: seems to heal and when I go to plate immediately
- 17:07Speaker 1: gets reaggravated. I have had knee injuries related to sports,
- 17:10Speaker 1: and I gotta say the toe injury maybe the most frustrating. Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So Paul he was. He was on them, the Patriots
- 17:18Speaker 1: at the beginning of the year. Then they, I guess
- 17:19Speaker 1: released him and he went to Seattle. But he had
- 17:22Speaker 1: three catches in that opener against Pittsburgh, two against Josh Gordon.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Did Josh Gordon did? Okay? Yeah, I don't remember him
- 17:28Speaker 1: being at the same time. Oh, I mean I was
- 17:31Speaker 1: the whole reason why I Am sold a shirt that
- 17:36Speaker 1: just had the list of all the receivers they had.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And then I remember, like three days later, I think
- 17:43Speaker 1: they got rid of him, and then Edelman had to
- 17:45Speaker 1: send an email to everyone that bought the shirt. I
- 17:47Speaker 1: was like, I just remember we were in the names.
- 17:50Speaker 1: We were in Detroit for preseason, I believe when it
- 17:53Speaker 1: came down and we were all like, oh, this offense,
- 17:56Speaker 1: good luck. Wait the Antonio Brown thing, I think so, No,
- 18:00Speaker 1: that was during that I remember that was the night
- 18:04Speaker 1: because that opener was the Sunday night game al Michaels
- 18:07Speaker 1: was talking about and Tom Brady is, you know, all excited.
- 18:11Speaker 1: He's had me going to have him at his house.
- 18:12Speaker 1: That all came about on the Saturday before the like
- 18:15Speaker 1: the Sunday night opener or whatever it was. Um was
- 18:18Speaker 1: it a Thursday night game at the time. Maybe, I
- 18:20Speaker 1: don't know. I don't remember they raised the raised the banner,
- 18:23Speaker 1: so I don't remember that the time frame, but I
- 18:25Speaker 1: remember Al Michael specifically talking about Antonio Brown coming, and
- 18:30Speaker 1: I remember finding out about it on a Saturday because
- 18:32Speaker 1: I was golfing and it was probably like my last Yeah,
- 18:36Speaker 1: I was like, oh great, I gotta deal with this
- 18:38Speaker 1: in every hole and and I remember it was probably
- 18:40Speaker 1: gonna be my last golfing round of the year, and
- 18:43Speaker 1: now I got to deal with this guy. But you know,
- 18:45Speaker 1: fortunately I didn't have to deal with him too much longer. No,
- 18:48Speaker 1: that was a quick one. Yeah. I also remember when
- 18:51Speaker 1: we released him, we were all up in the bullpen
- 18:53Speaker 1: and all that, like just like what happened? That's doness.
- 18:59Speaker 1: That was a sigh of relief. For me, I just
- 19:02Speaker 1: do not there at the same time not have to
- 19:04Speaker 1: deal with that soap opera. Yeah, because he had he
- 19:07Speaker 1: had gone like nuclear at that point. I think on
- 19:09Speaker 1: every he had gone nuclear before he got here. Remember
- 19:12Speaker 1: how he thank you, Alex. Those insane just my favorite
- 19:18Speaker 1: stories were just the bulleted lists of all the drama
- 19:22Speaker 1: that took place between him, like freezing, what was the
- 19:26Speaker 1: thing his feet? And he just showed the way he
- 19:31Speaker 1: left Pittsburgh, the way he left the Raiders and then
- 19:35Speaker 1: and and that's why we have believe we took him.
- 19:37Speaker 1: That's why we have more respect from Mike Tomlin because
- 19:40Speaker 1: this prop stuff was probably going on there and he
- 19:43Speaker 1: kept it Underlin look really good. Yeah, he kept it
- 19:46Speaker 1: on the control. You know. Oh my god. But what
- 19:50Speaker 1: you know, that's he's another one that gets into the
- 19:52Speaker 1: coffee book. You know, Antonio Brown, what could he he
- 19:55Speaker 1: agrees with put himself in numbers, but like he could
- 19:59Speaker 1: have been like one of the all times. He could
- 20:02Speaker 1: have been one of the all time greats if his
- 20:04Speaker 1: head was screwed on right, be like Jesus at Red Rocks, Yeah,
- 20:07Speaker 1: Jesus and the Beatles, all right, five five Pats five
- 20:14Speaker 1: Night five five Pass five hundred web radio at Patriots
- 20:17Speaker 1: dot Com. We got our first Uh is it the
- 20:19Speaker 1: first Amazon game tonight? I believe? So yeah, are you
- 20:24Speaker 1: guys all set for that? I'm gonna watch I'm gonna
- 20:27Speaker 1: try to watch it. Um, I'm still uh you know me,
- 20:32Speaker 1: I don't like to like get locked into two you know,
- 20:35Speaker 1: And I'm just still wondering, like how I change the
- 20:37Speaker 1: channel pause? Can't change the channel rights? Invention? A man?
- 20:40Speaker 1: Is that remote control for the TV? He believes that?
- 20:43Speaker 1: Was it better than the printing press or anything else
- 20:47Speaker 1: you can talk to? Yeah? Oh yeah, those are great. Yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 1: but isn't every remote like that? Now? When you get
- 20:54Speaker 1: to Amazon Prime, that's just an I well it's I
- 20:58Speaker 1: think it's an Exfinity thing. Oh um, so you're you're young, Alex.
- 21:04Speaker 1: So how do I watch the game? Rant? Coming? No? No,
- 21:07Speaker 1: not a rant. I don't I can't figure it out
- 21:11Speaker 1: this thing out? How do I? I can't change channels
- 21:14Speaker 1: right now, like I'm stuck. I'm gonna watch it. I
- 21:17Speaker 1: have to take a long time, right, like during commercial breaks,
- 21:21Speaker 1: you can't flip through the channels, right you're saying, no,
- 21:23Speaker 1: you're entering a third party app. Right, that's there is
- 21:25Speaker 1: no way around that. Right, I'm not just doing it wrong.
- 21:28Speaker 1: There's no way around that. Okay. You know, I wish
- 21:30Speaker 1: they had the thing like you have on your iPhone
- 21:32Speaker 1: now where you can still watch a video and you
- 21:34Speaker 1: can scroll social media in the video will just kind
- 21:36Speaker 1: of staying. You can just flick it around and it'll
- 21:38Speaker 1: stay playing the whole time. That's one of my favorite
- 21:40Speaker 1: developments of the iPhone recently. Yeah, I wish I could
- 21:43Speaker 1: sort of split it and then you know, when the
- 21:46Speaker 1: commercials over and now I'm gonna go back to the
- 21:48Speaker 1: game side screen. You need a second screen ahead, watch
- 21:50Speaker 1: it on the laptop again. Yeah. Or you could be
- 21:53Speaker 1: like one of the frat boys that you walk into
- 21:55Speaker 1: like a college kids apartment and they have three televisions
- 21:58Speaker 1: in the living room. Is that what they do now? Yeah?
- 22:00Speaker 1: It is, oh boys, and then laptops pause. Living room
- 22:03Speaker 1: turns into like NASA control. You know he's got it's
- 22:06Speaker 1: like a sports book. You gonna get me one of
- 22:09Speaker 1: those green visors. I apologize in advance for Beth to
- 22:12Speaker 1: planting planning that. Oh no, she'd she'd be all, she'd
- 22:15Speaker 1: be down for that. She turned her living room into
- 22:17Speaker 1: like three televisions since she does what I Teleson, Oh yeah,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I'll bet reverse that. Just kidding me, all right? Um,
- 22:28Speaker 1: So anything else before we turn it over to the listeners. Uh,
- 22:32Speaker 1: looking forward to that game, looking forward to talking about
- 22:34Speaker 1: it this afternoon. It's a good AFC West matchup. How's
- 22:37Speaker 1: this starting to play out? I'm interested? I mean, Kansas
- 22:40Speaker 1: City was ridiculous last week. Again. Yeah, I thought there
- 22:43Speaker 1: were some signs and you know, probably probably talk a
- 22:45Speaker 1: little bit about the league and large later, but I
- 22:49Speaker 1: thought there was some Charger like signs again. Like, I
- 22:52Speaker 1: thought they played a good game. I thought Herbert looked
- 22:54Speaker 1: great again, and then somehow the end of the game
- 22:58Speaker 1: they're having to come up with a stop to save
- 23:01Speaker 1: the win. I thought they were the better team for
- 23:03Speaker 1: the vast majority of the game, but they couldn't put
- 23:05Speaker 1: it away. Yeah, and Keenan Allen getting a hamstring injury,
- 23:08Speaker 1: what's that he's part for the course with them? I
- 23:11Speaker 1: just I think that they're really good. I think the
- 23:14Speaker 1: Chargers are really good. But there's something missing. And I
- 23:18Speaker 1: hope that it's not something about Herbert that he's missing,
- 23:22Speaker 1: Like he's just like one of those stat compilers, and
- 23:25Speaker 1: not like the ultimate winner, because he wasn't really a
- 23:28Speaker 1: great winner at Oregon either. I remember watching the game
- 23:31Speaker 1: when when he first when he first came on my
- 23:34Speaker 1: radar as a as a top pick. No. I remember
- 23:37Speaker 1: watching a game early in the year. I think it
- 23:39Speaker 1: was the last year he was at Oregon against Auburn,
- 23:41Speaker 1: and Oregon was so much better than Auburn. They just
- 23:45Speaker 1: they were controlling the game throughout, and sure enough, it
- 23:48Speaker 1: stayed close enough and they lost it at the end.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And I hope that's not one of these things that
- 23:53Speaker 1: he just kind of has, like he doesn't put it
- 23:56Speaker 1: away for whatever reason. I am a little bit higher
- 23:59Speaker 1: on the coach read that I think most. I think
- 24:01Speaker 1: he makes some moves like a lot of guys do
- 24:03Speaker 1: that that are strange. You know, his propensity to go
- 24:06Speaker 1: for every fourth down. I don't think that's wise. But
- 24:09Speaker 1: I think he knows what he's doing in terms of
- 24:12Speaker 1: putting together a team and x's and nose and stuff
- 24:15Speaker 1: like that. I think the analytics get away from a
- 24:17Speaker 1: little bit sometimes, But they should have won that game
- 24:21Speaker 1: going away. The other day against the Raiders, and the
- 24:25Speaker 1: Raiders ended up getting the three and l got the
- 24:27Speaker 1: ball back and they had a chance. Now, give Khalil
- 24:29Speaker 1: mack all the credit. He destroyed that last drive almost
- 24:32Speaker 1: single handedly. Yeah, I love. I mean that's just all
- 24:34Speaker 1: the highlights from Herbert too. I mean just there's always
- 24:36Speaker 1: kicking around Twitter highlights of throws that he made, the
- 24:39Speaker 1: throw that he made, like down to the right side,
- 24:42Speaker 1: down the scene. We saw that one live on Red
- 24:46Speaker 1: Zone during the postgame show, and like me and Mike,
- 24:48Speaker 1: I mean, let's face it, we weren't all that enraptured
- 24:52Speaker 1: with what we were talking about at the time, but
- 24:55Speaker 1: that throw was just sick, yeah, and just so effortless.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I mean, I you know, did Josh Allen a few
- 25:00Speaker 1: years to really get to the next level. I don't think.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I don't think Herbert has that like bullish quality of
- 25:05Speaker 1: as a runner, Like where at Josh Allen is that
- 25:09Speaker 1: beast running with the ball in his hands. But as
- 25:11Speaker 1: far as size and ability to deliver it, man, I
- 25:14Speaker 1: think he's he's right there with with Josh Allen. All Right,
- 25:18Speaker 1: let's get to the phones. Five five pass five hundred
- 25:21Speaker 1: is the ace ticket outline. We'll start with Mike and
- 25:23Speaker 1: Puerto Rico. What's up? Mike. Hey, how y'all doing great
- 25:28Speaker 1: over here? Hey Mike here? Can I make up a jin? Sure?
- 25:34Speaker 1: Make a comment? Yeah? Okay. Can you know how you
- 25:37Speaker 1: have that rich Stone promo adjust to every every week? Yeah?
- 25:43Speaker 1: Speaking of that now, yeah, yeah I do. Yeah. It
- 25:48Speaker 1: doesn't have to be one of you guys. Does it
- 25:50Speaker 1: have to be the talent that does it? They want
- 25:52Speaker 1: to they want a live read. Yeah that's there. I
- 25:56Speaker 1: guess live reads more effective than than you know, uh
- 26:00Speaker 1: tape commercials. No, No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm
- 26:04Speaker 1: saying so like you hold some sort of competition amongst
- 26:08Speaker 1: the callers and the person that says the best uh
- 26:11Speaker 1: promo tieing doing their call talking about the game, and
- 26:15Speaker 1: then maybe at the end of the month or whatever,
- 26:17Speaker 1: maybe you guys get them like a pro shop I'll
- 26:19Speaker 1: pro shop Boucher or something like that. Okay, what does
- 26:24Speaker 1: that have to do with Bridge Stone, right, it's a
- 26:27Speaker 1: competent promo to Bridgetont Tire is the promo people that
- 26:30Speaker 1: you have to do? Right? Why do they want a
- 26:32Speaker 1: fan to read their their ad to make it fun? No,
- 26:36Speaker 1: not to read it, just to tie it into their
- 26:38Speaker 1: comment or whatever their observations are for the game. So
- 26:40Speaker 1: in other words, having a bridge stone contest, you know,
- 26:44Speaker 1: sponsored by Bridgestone or something. Correct. So if somebody calls
- 26:49Speaker 1: them and said, oh, these guys were so tired they
- 26:51Speaker 1: look like a bus with Bridgetone tires roll over them
- 26:54Speaker 1: during the game or something like that, So who can
- 26:56Speaker 1: be the most clever month? Yeah, yeah, we'll look at it. Yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 1: we work, we'll workshop that. Yeah, here's one. We landed
- 27:05Speaker 1: on the landed got back here, um from the Providence Airport.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I had a flat tire. You did, I did? Oh?
- 27:13Speaker 1: I had I the air Sorry, oh yeah, thanks somebody
- 27:16Speaker 1: slash So yeah, I wish I had some bridge stones.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I don't know. I had to go put air in
- 27:20Speaker 1: my tire when I left here. Oh my god, that's
- 27:22Speaker 1: why I didn't wait around for my suitcase. So when
- 27:24Speaker 1: I was talking to you, you knew that you had
- 27:26Speaker 1: that flat time. I had not noticed yet. I turned
- 27:28Speaker 1: my car on, I saw the little little exclamation point
- 27:32Speaker 1: let it up on my dash and I was like,
- 27:33Speaker 1: that's that's just because of the weather. It got unseasonably
- 27:37Speaker 1: that night. Yeah, we got a problem with get it fixed.
- 27:42Speaker 1: You know what's going on? Well, I put some air
- 27:44Speaker 1: in the tire. I need to make an appointment because
- 27:46Speaker 1: they're new tires and this is oh BS warranty. Yeah,
- 27:51Speaker 1: I just got a new one for free for Will,
- 27:54Speaker 1: who was I think gone through six tires and about
- 27:56Speaker 1: a year and a half. Yeah, just a week sitting
- 27:58Speaker 1: in the parking lot and I was at like two PSI. Oh,
- 28:01Speaker 1: it's not good. It's got around thirty three four two
- 28:08Speaker 1: twenty one whatever. It takes a ball bearings all right,
- 28:12Speaker 1: So sorry, Mike, what's what's your foot YEP? No, My
- 28:16Speaker 1: comment is I think I mentioned this in the pastile
- 28:19Speaker 1: four but um as a Patriots fan since the year
- 28:22Speaker 1: before the exacted Blessed Soo um and all the ways
- 28:25Speaker 1: to hear, there was always things you could count on.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You know, you could always count on our QVP, either
- 28:30Speaker 1: Blessed Soo or Brady to just give us a chance
- 28:34Speaker 1: at the very end. Um, you could count on our
- 28:38Speaker 1: the way our team plays, that they will be disciplined,
- 28:41Speaker 1: it'll be clean, they won't kill our kills themselves with
- 28:44Speaker 1: either penalties or dumb plays. And then you could always
- 28:48Speaker 1: rely on the coaching, meaning that we always had a
- 28:52Speaker 1: you know, an advantage of coaching advantage. But giving the
- 28:56Speaker 1: last game to us the season and giving this game,
- 28:59Speaker 1: uh last week. I mean, all of those are off
- 29:02Speaker 1: of the table other than Patriots unsiltered. Don't we have
- 29:06Speaker 1: to hold onto Well that's the thing. I mean, but
- 29:11Speaker 1: thanks for the call. Like you know, here's the thing
- 29:13Speaker 1: about the you know, the discipline and being able to
- 29:15Speaker 1: count on them not killing themselves. Even with Brady, they
- 29:19Speaker 1: made mistakes. It's just it didn't matter. Now the mistakes matter,
- 29:24Speaker 1: you know. It seems like they're killing themselves because the
- 29:27Speaker 1: mistakes do. But they made mistakes with Brady too. There
- 29:31Speaker 1: are unblocked rushers that creamed him from time to time.
- 29:35Speaker 1: It happened, they hit Brady, had interceptions. We just you
- 29:38Speaker 1: have more than pre snap penalties, but they were able
- 29:41Speaker 1: to overcome them. Yeah, and you had more than two
- 29:44Speaker 1: drives that you move the ball like, you would move
- 29:46Speaker 1: the ball five, six, seven times and you would come
- 29:48Speaker 1: away with four or five scoring drives and you know,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and maybe you had one was not so it circuited
- 29:53Speaker 1: because of some pre snap penalties or whatever. But friends, right,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I mean, they've made mistakes in the past. I think
- 29:58Speaker 1: they're probably more penalties that they have. Last game, they
- 30:01Speaker 1: didn't have a lot of penalties last game, but they
- 30:03Speaker 1: were all pre snap penalties, which are the ones that
- 30:05Speaker 1: they don't generally get. Yeah, they had another you know,
- 30:08Speaker 1: too many men on the field on defense penalty. Yeah,
- 30:11Speaker 1: which that happens seemingly once every other game. Outsides Hunter
- 30:15Speaker 1: Henry with a false start. Yeah, there was three of them,
- 30:17Speaker 1: but Cody Davis, Cody Cold. That was no should Soon
- 30:29Speaker 1: as I realized what you were talking about, the quality,
- 30:32Speaker 1: not the quantity. Yeah, um, okay, let's go to now
- 30:37Speaker 1: Melvin and Tennessee. Hey, Melvin, sweet kid, I want to
- 30:42Speaker 1: know what you're gonna He is fixating on this bet.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Melvin is what's on the line. He said that they
- 30:50Speaker 1: won't win more than six games like normal, and I said,
- 30:56Speaker 1: I'm over six games. So and Paul, you know me
- 30:58Speaker 1: so weird because I said that at least get seven.
- 31:01Speaker 1: So we've been arguing for an hour probably I was
- 31:03Speaker 1: vone over a game. I talked my people, well, yeah,
- 31:10Speaker 1: you know, yeah, Paul knows me bear. I heard that
- 31:11Speaker 1: on the post game, So I was like, he knows
- 31:14Speaker 1: me very well. I've been calling himself ten plus years,
- 31:16Speaker 1: but he knows that what we were gonna be arguing
- 31:18Speaker 1: about what are the states? So that's what the argument
- 31:20Speaker 1: is about. He didn't realize that obviously. That he owes
- 31:23Speaker 1: me one lunch already from he was wrong the cam year.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But he's just gonna keep talking about whatever he whatever
- 31:29Speaker 1: he feels, and they're gonna lose all these games. I said,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I they'll got the Jets, the Bears stink. The Lions
- 31:35Speaker 1: kind of scamed me a little bit. Cleveland. There's teams
- 31:37Speaker 1: in there to day. I feel like they're gonna probably
- 31:39Speaker 1: be but it would be really good for them to
- 31:42Speaker 1: start two and two. I picked the Stealers and the
- 31:46Speaker 1: Packers for them to be maybe the ones that I
- 31:48Speaker 1: feel the most confident about. Um, But I don't know.
- 31:52Speaker 1: It's a little when you taught me a long time ago, Paul,
- 31:55Speaker 1: two craft teams, you take the home team. So that's
- 31:58Speaker 1: why that's why Fred and I are or like, have
- 32:01Speaker 1: our eyebrows raised over the spread. I mean, not that
- 32:04Speaker 1: it's an enormous spread or anything. I mean, they're basically
- 32:07Speaker 1: telling you it could go either way. But I'm a
- 32:09Speaker 1: little surprised with two teams that are struggling. You know,
- 32:12Speaker 1: for all the time Pittsburgh's offen stinks Pittsburgh's offen stinks
- 32:15Speaker 1: Pittsburgh and they just had a graphic up. Patriots are
- 32:17Speaker 1: twenty fifth, the Steals a twenty sixth and went in
- 32:19Speaker 1: the first week. There was a difference of four yards.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Um so, Yeah, both of the offenses a stink. Why
- 32:25Speaker 1: you know, why is the home team not getting the support?
- 32:28Speaker 1: So I think they know something? Yeah, it's it's it's
- 32:33Speaker 1: um so, So I think let's get that stop making.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I was about the curtain mistake, the mistakes of one
- 32:42Speaker 1: thing that bring that out of a lot of people
- 32:44Speaker 1: deal with. I mean it's really weird for but seeing
- 32:48Speaker 1: this type of team with so many constant dumb mistakes,
- 32:51Speaker 1: So eliminate those, you might have a shot to beat
- 32:54Speaker 1: you might, I mean basically gonna get that one of
- 32:56Speaker 1: last thing I want to say, why I get off
- 32:58Speaker 1: um it, I'm kind of I'm gonna be tuning into
- 33:01Speaker 1: this forty nine Ers and the Hawks thing. I like
- 33:04Speaker 1: for things to blow up, especially on not my team,
- 33:07Speaker 1: just blow up on other teams. It was gonna be
- 33:10Speaker 1: pressing for the forty nine is to lose the Geno
- 33:12Speaker 1: Smith and this whole tray Lance thing. I'm rooting for
- 33:15Speaker 1: them to lose so bad it's it's gonna be wonderfully
- 33:17Speaker 1: if they do. I just want them to. I think
- 33:19Speaker 1: it's gonna be it. It's an interesting thing. I'm folding
- 33:21Speaker 1: in San Francisco in my opinion. But all right, you
- 33:25Speaker 1: can't really call yourself a Patriots fan if you're not
- 33:27Speaker 1: rooting for something really bad to happen to somebody else.
- 33:31Speaker 1: That's the essence of being a Patriots. One of the
- 33:33Speaker 1: joys Gino Smith, he just hung on huh like crazy.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I don't believe he's still even in the league. He
- 33:38Speaker 1: was drafted to replace Mark Sanchez Like that was so
- 33:42Speaker 1: so remember seeing him play eight years between week one starts.
- 33:47Speaker 1: That's crazy. Eight years. Wow. I was like Van Winkly
- 33:51Speaker 1: wakes up and it's like wow. Twenty twenty two, Brian's
- 33:55Speaker 1: in Maine. Hey Brian, A good afternoon, lady in gentle
- 34:01Speaker 1: Before I get to my Pittsburgh point, I wanted to
- 34:04Speaker 1: compliment Alexandra for the article she wrote about the Blue
- 34:09Speaker 1: Hills Boys and Girls Club with one of the Patriots,
- 34:12Speaker 1: David Gelboeah okay, yeah. It was a very good article,
- 34:19Speaker 1: and it prompted me to send off a small contribution
- 34:24Speaker 1: just building Bridges Alex. They're doing great work over there.
- 34:27Speaker 1: I was amazed by everything they're doing for the kids.
- 34:30Speaker 1: It's so cool. The head of recording studio at that
- 34:32Speaker 1: Boys and Girls club like a whole music room with
- 34:34Speaker 1: drums and like they're kids like in the booth recording music.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I thought, we think it can be in there. Wonderful
- 34:42Speaker 1: he could record his next album available. Well, that's nice
- 34:46Speaker 1: of you to say that, Brian. Well, the two people
- 34:49Speaker 1: that you've hired through this big bump, I think have
- 34:52Speaker 1: made it a smooth transition. I've been listening for a
- 34:55Speaker 1: couple of years and have insomnia, so I listened to
- 34:59Speaker 1: them over and over. I wanted to encourage my fellow
- 35:02Speaker 1: listeners to read some of the articles. It prompted me
- 35:05Speaker 1: to go on, thank you, Do you read my articles
- 35:08Speaker 1: to put yourself to sleep? That's why I took out
- 35:13Speaker 1: maybe it's unfiltered to go to sleep? Can I tell
- 35:17Speaker 1: you don't twist my words. I'm just teasing. This is
- 35:20Speaker 1: one of the nicest calls we've gotten. We don't usually
- 35:22Speaker 1: get nice calls like this. Well, I appreciate I may
- 35:26Speaker 1: have missed this in the first minute, and they have,
- 35:28Speaker 1: but I would think the Patriots would have a much
- 35:31Speaker 1: easier time to plan their offense with J. J. Watts out.
- 35:35Speaker 1: That has to be a big thing to not have
- 35:37Speaker 1: to worry about. Dude, I was wondering what you think
- 35:40Speaker 1: about that. Yeah, I think it's it can't be ignored.
- 35:45Speaker 1: It's the number one thing for any opposing offense would
- 35:50Speaker 1: be to worry about T. J. Watt playing Pittsburgh. And
- 35:53Speaker 1: then the numbers back it up. I mean, he's missed
- 35:55Speaker 1: periodic games over the years, and I think it's something
- 35:59Speaker 1: like four or five less quarterback pressures when he's not playing.
- 36:03Speaker 1: They allow, on average about seventy or eighty more yards
- 36:06Speaker 1: when he's not playing. They don't win obviously as often
- 36:09Speaker 1: when he doesn't play. It's a it's a huge, huge
- 36:12Speaker 1: break for the page. He's not to have to worry
- 36:14Speaker 1: about the rating, big deal. I think I attended the
- 36:17Speaker 1: first Patriots game in nineteen sixty at Bracefield, and I've
- 36:22Speaker 1: been a fan since. So good team of bad. I'm
- 36:24Speaker 1: always rooting for them and never Tampa Day. Oh did
- 36:28Speaker 1: you get Did Fred give you his tickets to that game?
- 36:30Speaker 1: Is that how you got there? I haven't been there
- 36:34Speaker 1: since it was Sullivan Stadium, right, I moved up to me.
- 36:37Speaker 1: All right, Well, thanks a lot, Bryan, appreciate the call.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Thank you, Brian. Yeah, nice stuff, Alex, good job Alex.
- 36:43Speaker 1: People raising money putting money on him. That more can
- 36:46Speaker 1: you ask for? Yeah? And your checking Yeah right, Josh
- 36:50Speaker 1: is in Dallas. What's up everyone? Thanks for having me
- 36:56Speaker 1: on a long time, first time, all that good stuff.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I'll be quick and take it off line, but I
- 37:01Speaker 1: just wanted to get y'all thoughts on after seeing just
- 37:05Speaker 1: the way that the offense performed this past weekend, it
- 37:09Speaker 1: was felt like a lot of the same to me
- 37:11Speaker 1: as last year, even with the addition of nikkiel Parker.
- 37:15Speaker 1: As Paul likes to say, um, I just think we
- 37:19Speaker 1: I know we've talked about a lot in the offseason,
- 37:21Speaker 1: but to Fred's point that he always says, this offense
- 37:25Speaker 1: seems easy to defend, there's no true wide receiver one
- 37:28Speaker 1: that we've we've talked about all offseason and even last offseason.
- 37:32Speaker 1: So I wanted to see if you guys thought that
- 37:34Speaker 1: they would go out and maybe splurge a little bit
- 37:37Speaker 1: and get a true wide receiver one. I just don't
- 37:40Speaker 1: feel like after watching some of the other games on Sundays.
- 37:43Speaker 1: You know, Burrows got the ball with ninety seconds less.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Everyone in the stadium knows he's going to Jamar Chase,
- 37:49Speaker 1: and there's some some other players in the league dislike that.
- 37:52Speaker 1: So um, I just feel like that's kind of the
- 37:55Speaker 1: missing piece that we have because when we have the
- 37:58Speaker 1: ball with I need ninety seconds, like like Burrowwood, I
- 38:02Speaker 1: didn't have any confidence that we'd be able to march
- 38:04Speaker 1: down the field and put some some points one on board.
- 38:08Speaker 1: And the last thing I'll add is Freddy. I just
- 38:10Speaker 1: wanted to point out that the Rams didn't force the
- 38:12Speaker 1: Bills to point last Thursday, So right, I think McVeigh
- 38:16Speaker 1: and might be And yeah, even with Donald and of
- 38:20Speaker 1: course they did force four turnovers the secondary digress. Maybe
- 38:24Speaker 1: they're pretty good those Bills. All right, thanks Josh, appreciate it. Yeah,
- 38:29Speaker 1: I have d sent me that right after the game.
- 38:32Speaker 1: He's like, the Bills didn't punt again. I go, they
- 38:35Speaker 1: did turn it over four times, though, I mean, there
- 38:37Speaker 1: is a difference. Didn't even Matt, Yeah, it didn't seem
- 38:40Speaker 1: the same. It didn't. It didn't have to be honest,
- 38:43Speaker 1: didn't it seem the same because all the turnovers just
- 38:45Speaker 1: seemed to like interrupt the drive right right, start over,
- 38:49Speaker 1: just turn one over? What are you gonna do? Yeah?
- 38:52Speaker 1: What was his questions? Wide Receiver one. I think next year,
- 38:55Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if they splurge and spend a
- 38:58Speaker 1: little money on a guy who was a true wr one.
- 39:01Speaker 1: As they said, I need to know what happens the
- 39:02Speaker 1: rest of the year with Thorty. Yeah, you know, if
- 39:05Speaker 1: he counts back and shows, you know that, you know
- 39:08Speaker 1: a lot of promise, then you know, maybe they don't
- 39:11Speaker 1: necessarily go that way. Yeah, I would be surprised if
- 39:13Speaker 1: they splurged at that spot. I think they could do
- 39:16Speaker 1: again what they did last year and get a couple
- 39:18Speaker 1: of the middle tier kind of guys. Yeah, I mean
- 39:22Speaker 1: I I like that. I like that style. I mean,
- 39:24Speaker 1: I just are they gonna have a top ten pack?
- 39:26Speaker 1: Are they gonna have to pick a receiver? I don't
- 39:28Speaker 1: think so. Are they gonna go splurge and grab somebody
- 39:30Speaker 1: else's in free agency? I mean, I just I just
- 39:33Speaker 1: don't see them doing that. I don't either, you know,
- 39:35Speaker 1: And I mean I look kind of I was looking
- 39:36Speaker 1: a little bit ahead of at Baltimore, and it feels
- 39:38Speaker 1: like they're kind of doing what we wanted in that
- 39:41Speaker 1: one game at a time, but drafting a lot of
- 39:44Speaker 1: those Day two receivers that we liked, you know, like
- 39:47Speaker 1: Devin Duverney, like all these names that you're like, Oh,
- 39:50Speaker 1: these guys kind of fast. James Prochet another one, you know,
- 39:53Speaker 1: like these sometimes connected to the pat I think he
- 39:57Speaker 1: was Southern Mississippi. Perhaps. I do like Texas, no question.
- 40:05Speaker 1: They probably have issues right now with their weaponry and
- 40:07Speaker 1: all that um tight end base, but you know, I
- 40:10Speaker 1: like that, and I don't know what we're gonna need
- 40:12Speaker 1: after the season, Like there's so many potential things I
- 40:14Speaker 1: could be banging the table for we If we don't
- 40:16Speaker 1: get a tackle, Mac Jones ain't gonna make it to
- 40:18Speaker 1: your four, so that could be something consider as well.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Just looking over the shoulder here, there's a report evidently
- 40:25Speaker 1: Mac Jones will not be practicing today due to an illness.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Oh that's I see it on the banner here on
- 40:32Speaker 1: the Sports Hub. But it's citing a report, so I'm
- 40:34Speaker 1: not sure who's reporting that. If it's Mike Reese or
- 40:38Speaker 1: Jim McBride or Tom Curran, Phil Perry, those guys, I
- 40:42Speaker 1: would take it to the said. Mike Rees says, according
- 40:45Speaker 1: to the Patriots, so perhaps okay, notified, it's not a
- 40:48Speaker 1: reportead of time. Okay. So not practicing due to an
- 40:52Speaker 1: illness not good, not good at all because he looked
- 40:55Speaker 1: okay yesterday. Of that, I don't know how he Like
- 40:59Speaker 1: everyone there at practice, I was so but this is
- 41:03Speaker 1: like you like to get a field for things. So
- 41:07Speaker 1: Mike and I were like on Twitter and it's like
- 41:09Speaker 1: everybody says, Max moving around great, you know, Evan comes in,
- 41:11Speaker 1: he goes, but we didn't really get a chance to
- 41:13Speaker 1: see any anybody do anything. They didn't get a chance
- 41:16Speaker 1: to move around. So we're like, now, I don't know what, Like,
- 41:18Speaker 1: how was he moving right? Like everybody saw him out there,
- 41:21Speaker 1: so they just assumed he was moving well. And Evan says,
- 41:23Speaker 1: like they didn't really really well, whether it's a cold
- 41:28Speaker 1: or whatever. Not practicing before the game, it's not good. No,
- 41:33Speaker 1: you know, no, missing practice time is not not good.
- 41:35Speaker 1: And it's a whole new world with illness. Oh what
- 41:37Speaker 1: are we doing? What are we doing? I got a
- 41:40Speaker 1: headache now, this is bothering me. I just hope it
- 41:45Speaker 1: is an illness if that's why he's not practicing and
- 41:47Speaker 1: not the COVID. The back I know Evan back one day,
- 41:54Speaker 1: shouldn't have gone up and give him back that kiss.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I guess that's Fritz, that's and stuff. So I mean,
- 42:01Speaker 1: let's can we can we talk for a second though,
- 42:03Speaker 1: because some people I've seen questions of like, well, Bailey's appy,
- 42:05Speaker 1: well could you? I mean it'd be it would be
- 42:07Speaker 1: Brian hoy right, we can put to bed Bailey's appy
- 42:11Speaker 1: getting getting a shot? Why? I think it would would
- 42:14Speaker 1: be the guy like that's not even a I mean
- 42:19Speaker 1: Bailey's I mean, come on, what happened? People are asking?
- 42:22Speaker 1: I feel like, fine, four fifteen, he would look fine,
- 42:25Speaker 1: comes quick? What's poisoning sushi? Who knows? Well? I hope
- 42:30Speaker 1: that's it because that can get I don't know, everything
- 42:35Speaker 1: comes out. Actually that's great, you know bad. But if
- 42:40Speaker 1: it's like COVID or something else, that's not good. That's
- 42:44Speaker 1: a tough one. Uh yeah, not good, Bob, What is
- 42:51Speaker 1: it not good? I mean he's at least missing today, right,
- 42:56Speaker 1: you know? I mean yeah, I mean it's alright today
- 43:00Speaker 1: then yesterday, because I think Wednesday is the more important day.
- 43:02Speaker 1: But it's not like to Fred's point, it's not good,
- 43:05Speaker 1: I believe, ideal, just quick aside I think it is.
- 43:07Speaker 1: It usually practice first second down, Wednesday's third day, Thursdays Wednesday,
- 43:13Speaker 1: that's when they figure out what they're doing that. I
- 43:15Speaker 1: was a little surprised they were in pads yesterday, right,
- 43:17Speaker 1: well if they usually in pads on the web, but
- 43:19Speaker 1: they moved that, wasn't it? Like Mike, it's become very sporadic.
- 43:23Speaker 1: And I know it's usually only one a week, right,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and then some weeks they don't because once you get
- 43:28Speaker 1: into what is it like eleven and fourteen weeks or
- 43:30Speaker 1: something like that, right, right, it's they got to pick
- 43:32Speaker 1: their spots with him. But it seemed like, I mean,
- 43:35Speaker 1: if I remember correctly, last year, it was more more
- 43:37Speaker 1: at the beginning of the because it you should always
- 43:39Speaker 1: be Wednesday. But then I thought they changed it to
- 43:41Speaker 1: thumping Thursday or something like that. I don't know, but yeah, man, yeah,
- 43:46Speaker 1: well I guess we got to watch out too if
- 43:48Speaker 1: if anybody else pops up with an illness. One other
- 43:51Speaker 1: thing I wanted to say too, is, you know, I
- 43:52Speaker 1: think Brian Hoyer must have a really interesting perspective on
- 43:55Speaker 1: this whole offensive change, just because he's been around the league,
- 43:58Speaker 1: he's been in different offenses. He's played for a number
- 44:01Speaker 1: of different teams. He's played in the offense. We're trying
- 44:03Speaker 1: to mimic like supposedly, you know, like, but I'd just
- 44:07Speaker 1: be curious that might be maybe something to talk chat
- 44:10Speaker 1: with him about just what's his perspective. Well, I think
- 44:12Speaker 1: it's funny how he's such a sounding board for Mac
- 44:17Speaker 1: Jones and that was where he went after the game.
- 44:19Speaker 1: During the game, Alex, you had said that you noticed
- 44:21Speaker 1: that too, right on the sideline being there alive. I
- 44:25Speaker 1: just think he's talked, and I know I've talked to
- 44:28Speaker 1: Mike Reese about this, and Mike is pretty tight with
- 44:30Speaker 1: Brian Hoyer, and he Hoyder has told him like unequivocally
- 44:34Speaker 1: he has no interest whatsoever in coaching, but yet he
- 44:38Speaker 1: certainly fills that sort of mentor kind of a role. Now,
- 44:44Speaker 1: I don't know how much of that is X's and knows,
- 44:46Speaker 1: and how much of that is, you know, just being
- 44:48Speaker 1: a sounding board, you know, to you know, this is
- 44:52Speaker 1: what I saw? What did you see from over here?
- 44:54Speaker 1: You know that kind of thing which you know, rare,
- 44:58Speaker 1: but no disrespect intended. I think Brian Hoyter's knowing what
- 45:02Speaker 1: he sees from the sideline more than Matt Patrician and
- 45:04Speaker 1: Joe Judge. At this stage of an you know, from
- 45:07Speaker 1: the offensive side, Matt patricia is used to looking at
- 45:10Speaker 1: things from the other side. Number one and number two,
- 45:12Speaker 1: He's got to focus on the offensive line, which is
- 45:15Speaker 1: an important job. Yeah, as we've seen, Yeah, yeah, is
- 45:20Speaker 1: this a must win? No, in terms of what I mean,
- 45:24Speaker 1: it really isn't. Like that's my question because I usually
- 45:26Speaker 1: we talk about must win. It's like, well, playoffs, That's
- 45:28Speaker 1: what I don't mean by the definition of the term.
- 45:31Speaker 1: It's obviously not a must win. I think it's at
- 45:34Speaker 1: this season's going to go off the rails if they
- 45:35Speaker 1: lose this one. It's a confident standpoint. I think I
- 45:38Speaker 1: think the season could go off, go off the rails
- 45:40Speaker 1: if they lose them, because then you get Baltimore coming
- 45:43Speaker 1: in at home and well, like to your point, Fred
- 45:46Speaker 1: the like, Matt can't keep saying like, no, we're gonna
- 45:48Speaker 1: get it now, We're gonna get like every week, like
- 45:50Speaker 1: it's at some point, at some point he'll start to
- 45:53Speaker 1: hesitate whenn't Jeremy shap Channel, pat Riley Oh yeah, it's
- 45:58Speaker 1: a little bit like that Salton Pepper pulled back. Looks good.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Bill has an email that he had to get this
- 46:07Speaker 1: off his chest. He says, I've listened to since oh seven,
- 46:12Speaker 1: heard every show since then. Don't email much work during
- 46:15Speaker 1: the show, can't call live. I wanted to respond to
- 46:18Speaker 1: all the Belichick hate slash coordinator nonsense. I hope you
- 46:22Speaker 1: read my email. You drove me to it, he said one.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Patricia and Judge are good coaches, not the retread fired
- 46:29Speaker 1: losers you guys make them out to be. They were
- 46:31Speaker 1: both such great coordinators that they were hired at other programs.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Did you forget that they weren't such hot commodities because
- 46:38Speaker 1: they don't know how to coach? Yes, they got fired,
- 46:40Speaker 1: were unsuccessful as head coaches. Yeah so our most first
- 46:44Speaker 1: time head coaches. Right. McDaniels was fired, retread loser head
- 46:48Speaker 1: coach as well. Remember he came back and did a
- 46:50Speaker 1: great job. Oh and by the way, he started on
- 46:53Speaker 1: defense and special teams as well, and seems like he
- 46:56Speaker 1: figured it out. They are good coaches, have the most
- 47:00Speaker 1: experienced coaching staff in the damn league. Stop trashing them.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Number two? Can we stop after number one take them individually, Well, sure,
- 47:08Speaker 1: if you want to. Does that mean every guy who
- 47:12Speaker 1: was ever a coordinator becomes a head coach they're all
- 47:14Speaker 1: good coaches? No, but he's saying is not every you know, No,
- 47:18Speaker 1: he said that that they were successful coaches, otherwise they
- 47:21Speaker 1: wouldn't have gotten head coaching jobs. But he should we
- 47:23Speaker 1: talk about guys that we think are bad coaches. But
- 47:25Speaker 1: he's also saying that because they weren't unsuccessful, because they
- 47:29Speaker 1: weren't successful as head coaches, doesn't mean that they're bad coaches. Okay,
- 47:32Speaker 1: so like as rich coach had a good coach, No,
- 47:34Speaker 1: he's one that isn't. So how do you draw the line.
- 47:37Speaker 1: But he's saying that everyone like this nine thousand guys
- 47:41Speaker 1: that became head coaches that couldn't do it. They were
- 47:43Speaker 1: all successful coordinators, right, or they would have never gotten
- 47:46Speaker 1: their jobs. Right. But what he's saying is now he's
- 47:51Speaker 1: saying because they were hired as a Patriots coordinator makes
- 47:54Speaker 1: them a good coach. That's what he said. Most most
- 47:58Speaker 1: failed head coaches when they come back are pretty good coaches,
- 48:02Speaker 1: not head coaches. And I'm I'm asking you based on
- 48:05Speaker 1: what well they don't fail in their in their second job,
- 48:10Speaker 1: you know, not as head coach. But going back, Okay,
- 48:13Speaker 1: I'm not going to argue the semantics of it, but anyway,
- 48:17Speaker 1: just to just say that he's a good coach because
- 48:19Speaker 1: he was a Patriots coach is silly. But that's what
- 48:22Speaker 1: he's saying. They were hired as Patriots coaches and that's
- 48:25Speaker 1: why they're good. That's what he said. You can read it,
- 48:27Speaker 1: and that's that's what he's telling you. No, I don't
- 48:29Speaker 1: think so. I don't think. I think they achieved. They
- 48:31Speaker 1: achieved the level of a head coach based on their
- 48:34Speaker 1: work with the Patriots. That's what he said, based on
- 48:36Speaker 1: their work with the Patriots. Well, it happened. All the
- 48:39Speaker 1: guys that achieved level of head coach that were coordinated
- 48:42Speaker 1: to somewhere else, they might not have been good coaches,
- 48:44Speaker 1: They just might have gotten the job. Well, who said that, Like,
- 48:46Speaker 1: how didn't do what? He didn't say that? How did
- 48:50Speaker 1: Eric Mania? But that's not what this guy just said,
- 48:54Speaker 1: though it is what he said. I heard what he said. No,
- 48:56Speaker 1: it's not that's not what he said. And I just
- 48:58Speaker 1: hate the guy who can't accept the fact that it's
- 49:02Speaker 1: unconventional to take a defensive coach and make him an
- 49:05Speaker 1: offensive assistant. Well, that's a that's a that can't stand that.
- 49:08Speaker 1: That's a you can't accept the fact that that's odd
- 49:12Speaker 1: in causing problems. You're not paying attention that. That's another story.
- 49:15Speaker 1: That's another story. Number two on the Belichick verse TV
- 49:19Speaker 1: twelve bit was was his offense the one that won
- 49:23Speaker 1: us last Super Bowl? Or was it Belichick in the
- 49:26Speaker 1: defense Tom didn't do crap offense? Belichick took the Patriots
- 49:30Speaker 1: to the playoffs last year with a freaking rookie and
- 49:33Speaker 1: went ten and six with Castle. He freaking led the
- 49:36Speaker 1: Browns to the playoffs once out of five years. Do
- 49:41Speaker 1: you I mean, do you need to have his records
- 49:43Speaker 1: spit back at you? Well, I can also you know
- 49:45Speaker 1: the context of those five years, Paul, that was a
- 49:48Speaker 1: pretty bad ten games below five hundred nine years. I
- 49:52Speaker 1: mean the last year was the carpet was thrown out
- 49:55Speaker 1: from under his feet. I mean it was a bad situation.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I mean, if he had more stable loan of ship, um,
- 50:01Speaker 1: I think he would have been fine at Cleveland. Well,
- 50:03Speaker 1: I mean he's I mean, he's an example. Just make
- 50:05Speaker 1: stuff up too. I mean, my my brain just goes
- 50:08Speaker 1: to Adam Gase. He's a failed head coach, but he's
- 50:11Speaker 1: an experienced offensive coordinator, and I think if he was
- 50:13Speaker 1: here coordinating the offense, it wouldn't be the same. What
- 50:16Speaker 1: the hell is this? No, everybody would say he's terrible
- 50:18Speaker 1: because he was a terrible head coach. Correct. No, Yes,
- 50:21Speaker 1: that's not what this guy's saying. I think a lot
- 50:23Speaker 1: of that's what he is say. No, he's saying he'd
- 50:26Speaker 1: be good. Yeah, because the Patriots hired him. That's what
- 50:29Speaker 1: he was saying. Words in his mouth, missed a straw man,
- 50:32Speaker 1: that's what he would say. You're putting words in his
- 50:33Speaker 1: I'm not putting words in his mouth. That's what he's saying. Okay,
- 50:36Speaker 1: I mean listen, that's what you're that's what you're reading
- 50:38Speaker 1: in summarizes email. The Patriots did it, so it's good. No,
- 50:42Speaker 1: that's his email in a nutshell. No, that's like Tom
- 50:45Speaker 1: Brady didn't do anything in twenty eighteen. You are they
- 50:48Speaker 1: didn't have They didn't get to a Super Bowl because
- 50:50Speaker 1: of offen You are reading into it when they're in
- 50:52Speaker 1: Kansas City in overtime having to score thirty seven points
- 50:56Speaker 1: to get to the Superowl is it was defense that
- 50:58Speaker 1: won that Superowl is given Now now he's onto another thing.
- 51:01Speaker 1: That was his second point. He is giving credit to
- 51:04Speaker 1: anybody who rises to the level of being offered a
- 51:06Speaker 1: head coaching. No, he's anybody who ever rose to the
- 51:12Speaker 1: level of being with the Patriots organization in twenty twenty two.
- 51:15Speaker 1: I don't think that's what he's given credits. You're reading
- 51:17Speaker 1: into that, Fred, reread number two. You read reread point
- 51:20Speaker 1: number two. Point number two is a separate issue, right,
- 51:24Speaker 1: so re read it. Okay, But but that's not what
- 51:26Speaker 1: we're talking about. When we talked about head coaches being
- 51:29Speaker 1: you know, that was point number one. I already made
- 51:31Speaker 1: my archie for that. I've moved on to number two, okay,
- 51:33Speaker 1: So I just want to make sure that that I've
- 51:35Speaker 1: moved on to number two. The Patriots offense didn't do
- 51:37Speaker 1: anything in twenty eighteen. Yeah, Tom Brady two for three
- 51:40Speaker 1: hundred and fifty yards against the Chargers and three hundred
- 51:42Speaker 1: fifty yards against the Chiefs, he said, and they lose
- 51:44Speaker 1: both games if he doesn't do that, he says, And
- 51:46Speaker 1: I agree. I agree with that, by the way, But
- 51:48Speaker 1: they had one game where the offense didn't score points
- 51:51Speaker 1: and it happened to be the Super Bowl, and suddenly
- 51:53Speaker 1: defense want to say I agree with that. I think
- 51:56Speaker 1: it's it's bad. And Brady was still here. This guy
- 51:59Speaker 1: would not say that I agree with that. That, Um, yes,
- 52:04Speaker 1: you can't discount what the offense did. Brady was still here.
- 52:09Speaker 1: In Belichick had left, it would have been about Brady,
- 52:11Speaker 1: not Belichick. Wow, this guy is as I don't know,
- 52:16Speaker 1: but I'll read it again. He says on the Belichick
- 52:19Speaker 1: versus TB twelve bit was it his offense? Was it
- 52:23Speaker 1: the offense that won us the last Super Bowl? Or
- 52:26Speaker 1: was it BB in the defense? And I would say offense, Yeah,
- 52:30Speaker 1: the offense got us there. No. BB took the Patriots
- 52:34Speaker 1: to the playoffs last year with a freaking rookie and
- 52:36Speaker 1: went ten and six with Castle. You skipped a line
- 52:39Speaker 1: he said, Tom didn't do crap. Thank you. He meant
- 52:43Speaker 1: in the super Bowl. And I disagree with that too.
- 52:46Speaker 1: They don't win the Super Bowl without Brady. Of course,
- 52:48Speaker 1: of course got leading up to it that, No, they
- 52:51Speaker 1: don't win the Super Bowl game without Brady. But even
- 52:53Speaker 1: if you say, like the offense did nothing, you know
- 52:57Speaker 1: by the stats you can say that. But they wouldn't
- 52:59Speaker 1: be there without time. And you've also said many times
- 53:01Speaker 1: that you were never worried about that game while the
- 53:03Speaker 1: game was going on. It's true a comment by the
- 53:05Speaker 1: way that I happened to agree with. Yeah, I agree,
- 53:07Speaker 1: And why didn't you worry about it? Because we had
- 53:10Speaker 1: the great defense, because we had Tom Brady and they
- 53:12Speaker 1: had Jared Gard and I just that's why I didn't
- 53:14Speaker 1: worry about it. I just at the time, I still
- 53:16Speaker 1: had the feeling for the league. That is true, And
- 53:19Speaker 1: and you know what, I have to defend Fred. He
- 53:21Speaker 1: used to still have the feeling for the league until
- 53:23Speaker 1: last week three on Belichick the GM. Yes, he has
- 53:29Speaker 1: missed so of others. The Raiders missed their last three
- 53:32Speaker 1: first round picks. He also drafted Brady, Brady, Gron, Hernanda's
- 53:35Speaker 1: High Tower, Chandler Jones Man can see more, Mayor Mayo, Edelman, White,
- 53:39Speaker 1: Verene Chung, Devin Freakin, mccordy. Do you want to contrast
- 53:43Speaker 1: that with someone you consider a good GM. I would
- 53:46Speaker 1: put that record against anyone you got. He has drafted
- 53:49Speaker 1: more impact players than anyone. They all don't work out,
- 53:52Speaker 1: and you need to be honest about all of its success.
- 53:54Speaker 1: In this area. How about percentages instead of amount because
- 53:57Speaker 1: he's been around for twenty three years, so he's drafted
- 53:59Speaker 1: more players than everybody else too. Ps. I remember the
- 54:03Speaker 1: post draft PFW where you guys talked mad crap on
- 54:07Speaker 1: the mccordy pick and called him a special teamer. Guess
- 54:10Speaker 1: you were wrong. That's not true. I think it's not true.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I remember that we were wrong. No, we weren't. Yeah,
- 54:19Speaker 1: Bill called him a four down player and people took
- 54:21Speaker 1: that as that he was a special teamer, right, and
- 54:23Speaker 1: we defended Bill by saying that's not what he meant. Yeah,
- 54:27Speaker 1: that's right, that's what happened. I do remember like people
- 54:32Speaker 1: criticizing that pick. I do, yes, I remember, it just
- 54:36Speaker 1: wasn't us. Yeah. Was she killed it? She killed the pick.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I remember it very well because I was really adamant
- 54:44Speaker 1: about it because he was picked exactly where he was
- 54:46Speaker 1: slated to go, and everybody said another Rutger's reach. Everybody
- 54:50Speaker 1: said it, and I was like, no, we do a
- 54:53Speaker 1: lot of draft preparation, right, that's exactly where Devin mccordy
- 54:58Speaker 1: was supposed to go late first early second round, and
- 55:00Speaker 1: everybody was all over and they picked a gunner in
- 55:03Speaker 1: the first round. That's not what Bill said. He said
- 55:05Speaker 1: he can play on all four downs. That doesn't mean
- 55:08Speaker 1: he's a special teamer. That means he's a defensive player
- 55:10Speaker 1: who has the ability to play on special teams. There's
- 55:13Speaker 1: a difference. All Right, We're gonna take a break so
- 55:16Speaker 1: Paul can eat. Yes, Because he used up a lot
- 55:18Speaker 1: of energy there. I want to make sure after the
- 55:20Speaker 1: break he's still got that energy, so we'll be right back.

- 1:04:47Speaker 1: can do bigger loads. Not a fan of maytagu Maytag's good, durable, Yeah,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: but I like Speed Queen. The problem with all appliances
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: nowadays is they're not built to last. But that's why
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: you go would speak Queen. What's the different Speed Queens
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: are the ones used in the laundry mats. They just go,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: but they're built to give you a five to ten years,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: not to speed queen. Okay, all the guys that sell
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: all of these different things a wrong Fred three queen.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Like I said, I if you're looking for just a
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: basic speed queen washer dryer, American made steel drum, no plastic,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: you go, you go with the speak queen. Now, some
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: people say they're a little it's a little tough on
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: the clothes, a little rough on them, a little tough.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: We're gonna don't clean the cloth. It makes hold of
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: the steel drum with sharp edges. I just I just
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: wanted to help out. Dave there, I feel right. He
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: could be standing in the store and he's right right,
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: you're right, you know. Let me tell me about this.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: The guys you're calling a radio show. What I am?
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: I'm standing in the middle of the store and I
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: forgot what friends, let me check in with Fred. That's
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: another great moment from all right back here in Patriots
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Unfiltered eight five five past five hundred is the eighth
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: ticket hotline web radio at Patriots dot Com. Evan Lazar
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: joins us, and he's fresh from practice. We gonna we
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: don't have her gonna play the song, and we don't
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: have an even songe. Now we just speak live Evan Evan.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: He's got to get a proper Fred grilling. Now, okay, practice,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: what's up even aw you guys doing? So? We just
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: learned that Mac was sick. Mac has an illness who
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: was not at practice today. We were actually informed of
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: that before we even got out to practice. That in
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: itself is curious. Yes, I wasn't sure how much we
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: wanted to delve into that. You guys were, No, it's
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: it's all over now, it's all yeah TV. So we
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: we're standing out before we were going in. I a
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: little inside baseball. We wait outside the practice, outside the gate,
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: and we're told when we're invited into the practice field
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: to take attendance. And as we were standing there, we
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: were told to tweet that Mac was not going to
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: be at practice before we went into practice, which is
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: usually a non tweeting time of the covering of practice,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: and we were told that he was not going to
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: be at practice due to an illness. Tom Pelocero later
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: reported that it is a stomach bug of some sort,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: upset stomach and Mac was not out there sure enough.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Tell me interesting, I mean, you're missing Thursday before a game.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Can't be good, you know, I imagine. I mean, I
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: have respect for Max's toughness. I probably think it's some
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: significant he's probably yeah, I can't believe all the haze
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: in the barn as they say, No, definitely not now.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: Usually Thursday is a big third down day for them,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: where they go into the third down install and get
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: into some of the different things that they're going to
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: see from the game plan. And that's a huge day
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: for preparation, of course, because really on first and second down,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: for the most part, you're just kind of running your
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: offense and calling plays that you think my work against
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: the coverage, but it's not necessarily anything very hyper specific
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: to what the opponent is doing. But on third down,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: especially with Brian Flores now in Pittsburgh, you know you're
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: going to get some pressure looks. You know you might
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: get some zeros. There's some different things that he's going
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: to throw at the Patriots like Miami did last week,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: and from a pressure standpoint, and that all usually comes
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: on third down situations. So third down big day on
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: Thursday for practice. Friday's usually red zone installing, you know,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: just kind of final preparations and final tweaks and stuff
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: like that. So there is a big practice to miss. Yeah,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: I wonder if Saturday walkthrough has more urgency now that
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: they use this form makeup time. But anyway, I assume
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: they weren't in pads today, is that correct? They were
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: not in pads today, Shorts and shells type of look
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: to practice in turn of that, So I don't think
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: that it changes much for everybody else because Brian Hoyer
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: is probably going to run the first team offense, you
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: would think, and they're going to run what they would
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: have ran if Mac was out there, So it's not
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: like that really changes for the other ten guys on
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: the field. And I'm sure that Mac, whether it's virtual
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: or he's physically here, can still do the meetings after
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: practice and still get into the tape study and stuff
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: like that. Other than Mac, who wasn't available, everybody else
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: was there from the fifty three man roster. Juan Bentley
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: was there. They said that he was a DMP yesterday
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: with that toe injury. Adrian Phillips continues to be at practice,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: so from what's been reported in the fact that he's
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: been out there the last two days. It sounds like
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Phillips avoided a severe injury when it looked a little
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: bit dicey there when he was on the field laying
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: on the field against Miami. They're still missing three guys
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: from the practice squad at Bill Murray to Cameron mcgron
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: and Lebrin Ray today. Mcgron and Lebrin Ray didn't practice
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: yesterday either, and Cameron mcgron hasn't practiced in a couple
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: of weeks. If I'm not mistaken, he's been absent a
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: little bit for a while now, so I don't know
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: what's going on with him either. But they're practice squad
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: down three guys right now. Another one of the normal
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: practice questions we asked so that you're media contingent. Was
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: it a large one or a small one or what
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: would you say, normal normal, normal amount of media. I
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: would say the group that was initially informed of max
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: absence before practice was a little bit on the smaller side.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: Some later rivals. I'm not going to call out anybody
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: by name, but but some how did you know some
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: late some later rivals. But for the most part, it
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: was about the same as it usually and in the
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: mood of the team. Could you detect a certain mood
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: out there? It's okay if you say no, but find
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: some good adjectives. Honestly, they still still seem pretty loose,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: which I think is a good thing. Jonathan Jones was
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: dancing out there with Matt june on a little bit
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: from what we saw. You like when you see some dancing,
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: like when you see some energy. I did. I did
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: watch Kendrick Borden a little bit to see because he's
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: one of those guys that always love to dance, or
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: you know, Cam was here. He was big into that
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: too during training camp with Cam and they would dance
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: during stretching and get into it and stuff like that.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: And I don't necessarily not to like go on a
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: whole conspiracy of Kendrick boorn uh here, but I don't
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: necessarily see him popping around as much as he used to,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: which is a little bit interesting. Yeah, because you know,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: we we actually we see so little a practice. I
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: need to know all these other things, you know. You know,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: it's not like, you know, how did they look on
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: third down situational plays? You know, so Mike and I
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: dropped the ball yesterday. We didn't ask the Fred Staples,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: and Fred was very upset with us, disappointed him myself. Yeah,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: we talked about it later. We talked. Didn't even ask
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: him all the pertinent questions Mood had. Who was media?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: What the movie? Right? I will say Jack Jones against
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Air It was actually against one of those pads that
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: they try to whack the guys with to kind of
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: simulate that it's a receiver going up against spectacular one
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: handed catch. There we go, girls, It was actually a
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: pretty sick catch. I will say. So there's a coming
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: for you. There's a highlight for you, all right. So, um,
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: this is a development, though, I wonder if it's going
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: to do anything to the spread. It's gone up. It's
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: gone up, so max out. We get from one and
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: a half to two. So now we're favored by two
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: on ESPN. I just saw on the scroll it said
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: minus two, so it's probably different places, different number. Is
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: that weird to you? The spread? Patriots minus two. I
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: will say that the Steelers offensive performance got overshadowed by
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: how great their defense was. The Steeler's offense was terrible
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: on Sunday against Cincinnati. A lot of their points came
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: in drives. It started in plus territory or started it
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: with great in the Patriots. Yeah, yeah, it had great feel.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I'm not saying the Patriots. Who's saying that the Patriots
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: offense was good last but everybody's saying Pittsburgh's offense is abysmal. Yeah,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: like Trubisky was awful. They stay. I agree, by the way,
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: hand up in the back. I agree, But the Patriots
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: were the same and favored. Do you think the Patriots
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: defense is the same as Pittsburghs. I don't know. I don't.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: I don't know. Depends on how they play without t J. Watt, right,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: I mean, we don't know how the Steelers are going
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: to make up for that loss. I think a lot
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: of the things that they did against Cincinnati they're really
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: only rushing four or five guys at a time because
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: they're playing a ton of zone coverage zone zone. There
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: are blit zones and things like that, obviously, but you
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: don't want to take too many guys out of zone
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: coverage because you're trying to cover space with defenders in
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: the back end. So they had a lot more four
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: or five man rushes and you might expect, and I
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: think a lot of those get home because a lot
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: of eyes are on t J. Watt and now that
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: isn't out there. How does that at distribution look and
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: is there really as much of a stretch? You know,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Alex Hi Smith had a really good game for them
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: last week, but he's on the other side of t J.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Watt rushing off the edge, so all the pressure is
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: going over or all the you know, blocking is going
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: over to Watt. Cameron Hayward is always spectacular. He had
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: another good game against the Bengals, and he's just like
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: an ageless wonder. It doesn't matter how old that guy is,
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: so he's going to get after the quarterback on the interior.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: But you wonder about some of the edge pressure that
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: they were able to generate against the Bengals and how
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: much of that was really because all the protections sliding
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: over to t J. Watt And now they're not going
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: to have to do that. Yeah. Yeah, Hayward on Cole Strange.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: That's that's one to watch. I think I think that
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: was one of my matchups. Yeah, Yeah, I think that's
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: a Yeah, that's a good one. He's got to hold
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: hold up. Good matchup. Hayward on Cole Strange, Well, I had,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: uh you know, Hayward and the other guy who's their
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: uh nose tackle, Tyson. I said, they're those two guys
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: against our interior line. Yeah, you know, that's the game
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: to me, honestly, because Cameron Hayward five quarterback pressures, sacked
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: two QB hits in that game against Cincinnati. He's a
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: spectacular player. And the Patriots have had some trouble with
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: interior pressure, not just picking up guys, but also handling
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: different things on the interior and getting two bodies on
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: some of those situations as well. And I do worry
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: about Cameron Hayward against Cole Strange. It's Cole Strange's second
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: career game in the NFL against one of the best
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: interior pass rushers of the last decade. That's a mismatch
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: for Pittsburgh. And on top of that, Cincinnati was really
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: unable to run the ball at all on the Steeler
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: front as well. And as much as t J. Watts
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: a factor and that the interior guys, there was not
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: a lot of push on the inside that they were
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: getting after the quarterback. And you know, and Watt and
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: high Smith are coming off the edge and Burrows trying
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: to step up there's no place to step up into
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: because those guys are pushing the pocket in the middle.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: So Paul, if cole Strange has a good game, what
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: will be the reason why that's not a big deal. Oh,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: I think that would be a good Okay, I think
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I'm just making it well. I know you would like
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: friends patting himself on the back for being cerebral with
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: his little matchup. I think the key to the game
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: is the play of the offensive line. Like you have
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: to protect the passer better than you have throughout the preseason.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: In the first regular season game, I think both offensive
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: lines have been really bad, Pittsburgh's and the Patriots. Which
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: one plays better on Sunday It might be as simple
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: as that. If you the offensive line that plays better
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: might win. Yeah, it could be as simple as that. Yeah.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Like I saw some of the Trabisky on Pro Football
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: Talk talking about Flora has given him some insight into,
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: you know, potentially what the Patriots defense might do. But
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know about you haven't, but like
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: it doesn't want to look like a Patriots defense obviously Pittsburgh.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: It's just an interesting influence to have Flores there. I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: think he kind of touched on a little bit with
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: you know, maybe throwing some of the secondary blitzes. But
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: they blit blitz the crap out of Mac last year
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: when he was with Miami. You know, I wonder how
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: much they're gonna have to do without what to bring,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: you know, extra guys and try to you know, I
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: don't know, but what's going on in Pittsburgh but here locally?
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: Are you surprised that there's not more talk about the
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Belichick Flores thing? And like, I was thinking about that
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: little they talk to each other, like the text smesh
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: snaffu with Brian Dable and all that stuff, And I
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: do I wonder what that relationships like right now. I
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: wonder if they're if they're copasetic or not. Yeah, you
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: wonder what the Steelers game plan on defense. So Terrell
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Austin their defensive coordinator. He's a Cover two guy. He
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: comes from a Tampa two background and he played a
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: lot of Cover two against the Bengals. But they have
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Jamar Chaise, they have te Higgins, they have Tyler Boy,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: they have weapons that you want to keep the safeties
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: over the top. The Patriots might not scare you vertically
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: as much as those guys scare you, So I wonder
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: there were It kind of felt like at times like, Okay,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: here's you know, Austin's turn to call the defense, and
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: now here's Brian Flores is turning to call the defense
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: because they're calling cover two a lot, and then the
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: next five players are all man coverage, five man rush,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, there's Brian Flores. So it's kind
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: of like a meld of the two different systems. So
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: with this game plan with Flores is I wouldn't necessarily
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: say the institutional knowledge is that big of a deal anymore.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: He hasn't been here in a couple of years and
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: never coached against Mac and practice or anything like that.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: But his success, certainly with Miami last year. Is this
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: a Flores game plan? Does Terrell Austin say to Brian Flores,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: how did you beat him? You know the Patriots better
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: than I do. You had success against them in Miami. Here,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: it's your game plan this week? Because then they do
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: have that capability of playing more man coverage, they just
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: lean more heavily on zone against Cincinnati. I also think
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: that Brian Flores may look at it and say, like
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: that first game last year, Mike is right. He came
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: out on with double barrels. As the season wore on,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: I think people kind of realize we don't have to
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: do that to sort of contain this offense. We don't
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: have to put ourselves in harms way that recklessly. And
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: I don't think Miami did it, you know anywhere near
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: was much last week is they did in the first
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: week in twenty twenty one. Yea, So maybe Brian Flores
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: looks at it and says some of the stuff that
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: Evan just said. You know, you know five man rushes.
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: I know that's technically a blitz if you bring more
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: than four, But that's not the same kind of thing
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: that we saw from the Dolphins in Week one last year,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: when you know, as anybody and everybody was coming to Bill,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I'll tell you that I've asked my question. It's another
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: reason why he again, back when he used to talk
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: to me, he used to say things like that he technically,
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: in his mind, a blitz is when you have one
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: more when they bring more than you have, right blocking, right, yes,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: And I agree with that that mindset, and even like
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: I understand that it was a safety blitz because it's
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: an unconventional guy. But it's still they only sent five
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: on that play right last week, and that's why Bill
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: was kind of short in the post game when he
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: said we had we had five guys they had to
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: block him. We didn't block it up. Yep. Yeah, I
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: will say last year, in the last game against Miami,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: they played a little bit more zone against the Patriots
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: than what they did in the opener. Opener was all
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: man and man blitz right. In the second game, they
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: played a little bit more zone, probably thinking that McDaniels
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: would have him ready for the man stuff, so they
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: pivoted a little bit with Brian Flores. So I wonder
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: how that goes this week. I think that that for
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: the Patriots offense, it feels a little bit of right
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: or we wanted me has no idea what Matt Patrician's
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: gonna do. It feels a little bit premature to get
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: into what is the defense gonna do against them and
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: game planning and stuff when you got to go out
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: there and execute surprises. Just the part that I was
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: saying about Flores, he might not feel like they're gonna
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: do enough damage to you have to, you know, blitz
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: as much. And the other part that I think Flores
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: could be interesting here is again with Evans point about
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: him not maybe necessarily having the institutional knowledge you know,
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: in that, but he was around when the Patriots annually
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: went against Pittsburgh and he knew how Bill and Josh
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: attacked the Steelers defense. I think you could be of
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: some value there. Yeah, you know, just sort of knowing
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: what they have done in the past, you know, on
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: both sides, you know, against Roethlisberger, and this is what
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: they used to do, and this is how they used
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: to try to go about it. So let's make sure
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: we have Drubisky prepared for some of those things. And
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: on the flip side, they had great offensive game plans
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: against Pittsburgh when they needed So if we want to
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: sit back and do all the things that you guys
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: used to do, this is what he's going to do.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: I don't know if mac Jones is the same as
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Tom Brady in terms of being able to, you know,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: take advantage of all that stuff. You know, like that,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: if he's going to sit back and cover two, we
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: all know that that was suicide against Tom Brady. I
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: don't know that that's suicide with Matt. I just think
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: you know, as great as Pittsburgh's defense has been over
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: the years, they also had some good weapons on offense.
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: I mean, you know remember Levon Bell and even when
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Antonio Brown was there and you always had a worry
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: about them and Ben Roethlisberger and yeah, I mean you
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: don't need to do that now as of late. Yeah,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: they had some great game like seventeen and eighteen were
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: like great games in Pittsburgh. I mean the one in
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: nineteen we blew doors off here in that opening that
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Mike talked about earlier in the show. But those two
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: remember the game the ground game where he went off.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: But then that controversial play games. Ye, they changed the
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: rule as a result of that play um And then
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: I think that was seventeen. I think the Steelers beat
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: them in eighteen. Um in a lower shot. It was
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: like a seventeen ten game. Ye. That was a give
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: me the look. No, no, it's it's it's one of
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: those Pal moments. I know. I'm sure you love is
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: um is all the Patriots fans making fun of the
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: Steelers for like lionizing the interception from that game where
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: they like, I think that sealed the game if I
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: if I remember correctly last and then the Patriots went
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: on to win the Super Bowl, and you know, so
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: it was one of those things of I don't know, okay, good,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: sorry for you don't remember that, do you? The Steelers interception? No,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: I do remember the play in the end zone. They
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: like put up a picture of it in the Steelers
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: like Joe Hayden, wasn't it Yeah, a locker room or
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: something like. It was like they made a big deal
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: out of like we finally did it, you know, like
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: like they blew it up. It was one of those things.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: This is a weird matchup though from a coach, Fred
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: voices it's a weird matchup because the Patriots and the
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Steelers coaching staffs are very, very different from the last
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: time that these two teams played. Keith Butler was their
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: defensive coordinator for a really long time. He they parted
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: ways because they struggled last year. I wouldn't know. I
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: don't know enough about Pittsburgh in or working so know
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: if it was a true firing or not. But they
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: did not have a good defensive year last year. So
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: he leaves, Tara Lawson comes in, Matt Canada on offense.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: I mean, you talk about Trubisky as a drop back passer.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: He was abysmal in that game against Cincinnati, but Matt
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: Canada is known for having some tricks up as sleeve.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: They ran a reverse flee flicker against the Bengals for
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: a big play. Yeah. They had four explosives. All of
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: them had some sort of like trick or bell and
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: whistle or I think Deonta Johnson had one insane like
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: Odell one handed catch along the sideline and overtime that
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: was a great catch. I saw that on red zone. Yeah,
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: to get them down the field. So they had They
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: had a flee flicker, reverse flee flicker that goes for
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: a big play, a tight end screen went for a
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: big play. Deontay Johnson mosses somebody on the sideline for
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: a big play, and then Dribrisky had one scrambled drill
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: broken play in overtime. But they had two explosives in
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: regulation and that was it. And they were both off
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: of like scheme gimmick type of plays. So Canada is
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: a he's a schemer, He's somebody that's going to drop
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: some things. Chase Claypool had six carries for them on
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: end a rounds and reverses, so they're gonna get him
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: involved in the running game as well. But when they
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: go to just their straight stuff like turn around and
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: give the ball to Nagy Harris or throw the ball
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: in a drop back passing game, they were terrible again Cincinnati,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: so they really had to be smoking mirrors. If the
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: Patriots defense is more on top of some of those
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: things that Canada is going to do, I don't really
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: see how Robisky strings positive play together, and I don't
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: know if the Patriots offense gonna be able to string
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: a positive place together either. But I'd picked seventeen thirteen
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: for a reason. I think love scoring game, all right,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: eighteen thirteen? Who pats? Oh wow? Uh yeah, that's that's key.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: You know who gets the seventeen eight five five past
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: five hundred ticket outline. Let's get back to the phones.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: We'll start with Matt and Ohio. What's up, Matt, Matt, guys,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: how's it going good? So I took Ball's advice yesterday
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: and listened to Felger and Matt later on the day,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: But I wasn't able to hear your take on the
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne because it only posted the first hour of
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: their show. UM, but I wanted to talk about UM
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: kind of their opinions about it. I mean they brought
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: some stories up with Kendrick Bourne, how him and Patricia
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: got into it UM during practice and then he him
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: missing the meeting, and then it all stems back to
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: in the off season when he was talking to Mike
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Reef about you know that the offense and how he's
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: going to be more involved in it and how he's
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: going to be used as a running back and how
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: excited he is. I don't understand and where this pettiness
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: is coming from. I guess it comes back to I
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: mean it's it's totally different story. I guess with Malcolm Butler,
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: when you know, being benched in the Super Bowl, I mean,
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: is Matt Patricia that petty and that he can't have
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: a conversation with these guys to do what's best for
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: this team. I mean, we're gonna take a divisional loss
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: and then we're gonna I mean, obviously you lost the
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: Super Bowl, but that's obviously not the reason, and still
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: we wouldn't have won the game. Kendrick Warren went to play,
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: but come on, now, three plays and DeVante Parker plays
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: every snap. I mean, it makes absolutely no sense. How
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: we just can't be adults about this and get over
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: our fighting. I mean, I just I just don't understand.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: I mean, if like his bill pushing portray, should you
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: know be that he's he's the guy everybody needs to
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: listen to him or else or I mean, Patricia, is
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: that like that much? I mean, he's getting all the blame.
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: But yeah, we don't know what's going on. We don't know.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I feel like we're trending into the Felgram zone here,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: where they were an alternate state of react exactly. So
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: if you say it enough, it becomes fact. Why is
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: anybody surprised by this? I just don't understand if you
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: followed this team and Paul is better at remembering all
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: of the different instances where this has gone on. It's
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: not just Malcolm Butler, and it's not just Kendrick Boorne,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: like Wes Welker got bench for a quarter because he
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: said Rex Ryan likes feet or something like that to
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: the media, like this has been going on for twenty
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: years that guys that aren't following the program don't play
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: like I don't understand why this is so? What is
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: the example of and I don't you know why that.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: I don't This is not a Kendrick boy thing. But
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: what is the example of him not following the program late? Okay,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: but that's why he didn't playing in practice? No, No,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: he showed up late. That's why he didn't play against
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Carolina that night. True, that's it. Like, but those those
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: are we know, like Otterer than anybody at their strikes
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: with Bill right like you you have. I don't know
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: how many he gives people. You know, some people I
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: don't think have any, like Jonah's Gray. He shows up
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: late to one practice, but even he it wasn't just
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: one lot more than Yeah, it was a lot. And
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: that's why. And that's why I believe even with it
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: wasn't just that there had to be other things. Yeah,
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: and I and like I find it weird. And again
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: Evan talked about when we did the whole sort of
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: Kendrick bone timeline during practice in the Carolina practices. Do
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: you remember the very first practice of training camp the
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: shoulders that it was basically otherwise known as the only
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: day that the offense had success? Yeah? Yeah, who had
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: success that day? Parker and h not Ja Kobe. They
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: were jumping all over the place. It was all the
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: energy they were creating, Kendrick Bourne whipping the crowd up,
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: to Davante Parker making contested catches in the end zone,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: and to the point where when Bourne talked about it,
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: he was like, yeah, the defense was getting a little
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: mad after a while. And remember the defense like blink
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: them the rest of the weekend. So he opened camp,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: he was getting balls thrown to him and he was
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: a part of things. And then as camp went on,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: we were all sort of noticing, like, he's not getting
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: any passes thrown to him. He's coming in as like
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: the fourth guy. He's sort of sometimes like in the
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: second group with Trey Nixon and little Jordan Humphrey. You know,
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: he wasn't out there as much with Parker, Myers and Agalore,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: and you sort of wondered what happened. These are the
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: kinds of things we don't know, but something did. They
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: didn't just decide all of a sudden, you know what,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: we don't like this guy. Anybody everybody's pointing the fingering
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: yeah and ill, this has been going on for twenty
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: years with the head coach's So why are we saying
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: that this is Patricia's problem. That's and that's what starts
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: to bump me is just that, well, we're going to
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: establish this now, what what we're going to say happened
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: was that that Matt Pete doesn't like him and that's
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: and it's all his choice, and he's and they had
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: beef and it's still going and Matt Patricia's that's hearing
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: it like you're just like watching the But that's off
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: of a report. That's a different to me, that's a
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: different well, but but that's a simple like Matt Patricia's decision.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: But now it's becoming that this is an ongoing Patrician
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: you know, they was, I mean, according to Tom Kerran
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: there was some some kind of strife between Patricia and Born.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I don't know if that's true. That's I mean, that's
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: that's the way the report came out that he was
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: sort of um during wide Receiver meetings. He was sort
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: of correcting things like that's not how that's not how
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: it's done. That's not you're not doing it right, and
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: that got back to Patricia and Patricia was really upset
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: about it. That's sort of the behind the scenes. But
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: that ever, than I have this right like, this is
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: not about Matt. Patricia just decided, you know what, Bill,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: this guy, he ain't playing anymore. That's not how it works.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: That's not how that's not how things work. Paul and
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: talk about over the last twenty years, how many guys
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: have gotten into the dock house with Bill? How many
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: times have we gone through this? And like then everybody's
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: saying it's Matt Patricia, who's actually the guy that But
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I wouldn't even say even more so, give me an
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: example of a guy who got in a doghouse with
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: a positional coach or one of the coordinators, Michael Bennett,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: and that's why he ended up never playing. You know,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: like if that lists a lot smaller, right, and Michael
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: Bennett might be one of them. I don't know. You
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: need to happen to Ray Hamilton. But that was a
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: long time. Didn't he get in a fight with Bill? Yes,
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: that's what That's the way I remember it. At least. Yeah,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: dock house traded three weeks later. Let's go back to
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: the ticket, right, we're got a hurry fed you got
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: a home? Yeah, well you gotta hurry. Oh she's okay,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: I can't do that. Then we gotta go to pill No,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: you gotta get you gotta cli off there. You can't
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: leaves on the phone. All right, all right, quickly Stephen,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: New York. What's up? Yeah, I guess they'll be quick,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: you know. One first one want to say, Evan, a
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: huge fan of your work in your film Breakdown, would
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: love to see a video series on the Patriots YouTube page.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: One of the things that's concerning to me, and I'm
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: wondering if you guys can write some insight and how
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: they fix this. But you and another individents have mentioned
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: that the wide receivers weren't were running routes that didn't
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: make sense, whether crowding areas or you know, almost running
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: into each other. And I'm wondering, is that the communication thing?
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: Is that a coaching like a wide receiver coach? Is
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: that a scheme thing? Like? Why is that happening? Thanks
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: for the call, Steve. Patriots were in concept called nish
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: probably like six times against Miami where you have the
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: shallow crossers coming over the middle and usually leaked to
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: running back and on fourth down, the fourth down play
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: that Zavan Howard got called for a legal contact and
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: it ended up going for a first down to the Patriots,
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: Jakobe Myers and Damian Harris collided in the middle of
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: the field. They ran into each other when they're supposed
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: to intersect, they ran into each other. And Mac was
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: looking to work through that part of the concept as
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: it was like fourth and three, Like they're not trying
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: to bomb it down the field on fourth and three,
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: and the two receivers he was trying to throw the
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: football too, collided and fell to the ground, so he
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: wasn't able to throw the ball to the four yard
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: pass to get it past the sticks versus bombing it
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: down the field. They were in Mesha half a dozen
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: other times and the same thing. Everything was happening in
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: like a little pocket of space on top of each other,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: and you just don't see any route space. It's spacing
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: of the field, and I think in a lot of
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: cases it's a detriment to the fact that they can't
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: take the top off. And so these guys, these these
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: defenders were getting in the way because they're crowding the
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: box within fifteen yards of the line of scrimmage. So
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: I it's an interesting question of you know, what's the
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: what why? Like why is this happening. I think there's
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: probably a million different reasons as to why, but that
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: fourth down play stuck out to me so much because
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: they tried to get they tried to have they had
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: the right idea, but they ended up just running into
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: each other and it was kind of a mess of
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: a play and Mac ends up having to throw a
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: bomb to Davante Parker in the end zone against Avian
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: Howard and they got bailed out by the flag. NAT's
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: in Santa Cruz. What's up, nat, Hey, guys. I just
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: wanted to follow up on some of the talk about
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: the coaches, and I think that in some ways they're,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: you know, built in danger of losing the locker room.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: He brought in two coaches who had both had lost
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: the locker room as head coaches, and he brought it
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: and you know, it's like a lot of the guys
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: would have gotten in line when the team was going
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: to the last twenty years, like Evan said, going to
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: the championship in the Super Bowl. That's how it's gonna
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: work anymore. And these guys are different, young men are
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: different from they were twenty years ago. They were you know,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: they're millionaires now, they're treated differently, and if Bill doesn't
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: adapt and stop making everybody fall in line in the
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: same way that works when you were constantly winning games
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: and winning championships, he's just gonna, like, guys are just
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: gonna say, Okay, can I get out of here, how
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: my last a year in New England and be done
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: with my contract and then move on. So I really
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: hope Bill adapts and like just learns the human being
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: side of the players and changes the way he interacts,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: because right now it seems like this is maybe not
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: a must win, but it's a must play good because
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: I feel like we're at a precipice in the next
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: couple of weeks of you know, whether Bill can even
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: remain as a functioning leader of this team. Wow, I
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: know that's tell a dire but I'll take it off
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: fine team, all right, Yeah, I mean it's it's a
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: good conversation to have, and you've had it before. But
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: I think Bill has acknowledged that he needs to adapt
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: and things have changed, and I think, you know, I
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: think he has in certain areas, you know, but yeah,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: I think he has two. But I think what's like,
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: you know, what's concerning to me is just all this
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: talk of installing an offense that is rudimentary and isn't
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: going to do the job in the NFL. Like I'm
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: fine with like the personnel stuff and pushing the right
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: buttons off the field, like I'm sure he's changed plenty
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: of stuff we don't know. We don't know how he
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: talks to the team. But what really makes me apprehensive
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: about this whole thing is just the fact that why
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: would this guy, who's the greatest coach of all time,
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: it knows everything there is to know about football put
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: in an offense that is not going to be functional
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: and successful at the NFL level. That that's what's mind
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: blowing to me, and the thing I'll be watching it
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: to me, Yeah, it's it's less about how he's community
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: because I think communication has always been sort of a
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: challenge for him, but it's been able. I think he's
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: been able to get his message across to the team
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: obviously for twenty plus years, you know, as well as
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: anybody needs to, right, I mean, they've won more than
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: any team ever. So I think the differences now are
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: when you do things like that, Mike, you're changing the offense.
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: And I'm sorry, I know this upset the guy who
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: wrote in earlier. But when you're doing it with guys
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: that have no offensive background, people are going to question
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: you when they haven't been around for when you won
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: those six super Bowls, And most of the people that
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: are involved in this transition weren't around when you were
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: winning all your games. So, yes, Bill Belichick comes with
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: an enormous reputation that everybody would love to play for.
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: But when you're starting to do things that are a
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: little bit unconventional, it's harder to get the buy in
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: from people who haven't been around when you've wanted a
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: high level And I think that's the kind of stuff
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: that I think Nat might be talking about. But I
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: still I think he could still communicate with the team
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: and get his message across. It's whether or not they
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: believe in what they're doing. All right, it's a good conversation,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: but we have to hurry. I know, you gotta it's
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: that time of the week because you gotta put a
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: lot of you gotta put a lot of thought into
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: your performance. All right. As we previewed, it was a
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: bad week for Fred last week. Yes, a bad really
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: doesn't begin to describe it, but it wasn't bad for everybody,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: because Paul went ten five and one, which was not
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: bad for a week one performance. Yeah, followed by Tamara
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: at seven, eight and one. Of course, then Mike gets six,
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: nine and one, and Fred evan, I want you to
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: listening to this. This is overall just picking winners, sixteen games,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: just picking the winner, no spread, no nothing, two thirteen
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: and one, Oh my god, as go the Patriots, so
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: um with the spread. I screwed up. I picked Cincinnati.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: I never picked Cincinnati. I forgot that rule. I shouldn't
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: have picked them. That was one. Okay, yeah he does.
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: That's why he goes to thirteen and one because he
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: has about eleven grudges and sometimes all of those grudges
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: don't work, and it all happened to not work in
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: the same week he has. He has arguments with a
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: lot of teams at the same time I do. With
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: the spread. Paul also won that at ten and six,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: followed by I'm sorry, followed by Mike at seven and nine.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: Good job, Mike, good for you. Uh yeah, it's good
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: for you. Samara at five and eleven, and Fred four
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: and twelve. Yeah, not bad compared to two thirteen and one.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: That's awful. Yeah, I just don't the feeling I knew
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: going into the season. It didn't. I didn't have that
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: I honest to god, I I've never remember a week
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: like that with um just the overall no picks spread
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: that can happen to you in the spread. You pick
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: a bunch of upsets one week and none of them happened.
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: Just it makes me feel good. The rest of the
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: year ISAs no matter how bad I do, hopefully you'll
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: always have two thirteen and one. Yeah. Well, you know,
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: in my defense, there were a lot of close games,
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: so they could have gone either. So this was funny,
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: like when it was you know, I compiled the sheet
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: and I and I looked and I was like, I
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: had to do something wrong. So I went back and
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: I did them all again, just to make sure. I
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: was like, no, that's right, that's right, all right, we
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: gotta we got fifteen The one and O Chargers visit
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: the one and oh Chiefs eight fifteen on Prime video.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: The Chiefs by four and a half, four and a Hay,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: they were great last week. I really do like Justin Herbert,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: but I'm going to take the Chiefs at home. I
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: will lay the points Tamara slash Alex. So are we
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: really just going to be looped together? Yes? Okay, Well
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: I will separate her. No, he's got a two rook Okay,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I'm not prepared. Okay, he didn't get to watch the
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: All twenty two on all the other games. You don't
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: really need to prepare, as I've shown you don't. I
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: will separate. I will separate your record. I know that
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: you're picking this week, Okay, Okay, I promise. I don't
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: want you getting drawn down into that testing you, Paul,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna go h Chargers plus three and a half.
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: You do you like them to win the game? You
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: have to say who you think is gonna win in cover? Okay,
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: So you like the Chargers out right? Yeah, Chargers out right? Okay.
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: I am gonna split it. I am gonna take Kansas
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: City to win, but I'll take the hook Freddie and
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: I'll say that they'll the Chargers will keep it close. Yeah,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Chiefs both ways. Sunday at one the
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: one in Old Dolphins, visit the one in Old Ravens.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: Good scouting game for the Patriots. Ravens buy three and
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: a half at the Dolphins four. I again not impressed
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: with two. I'm gonna take Baltimore at home. I lay
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: the points Ravens all the way. I am going to
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: do the same thing. I will take the Ravens to win.
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: I will take the hook and I will take Miami
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: to cover. Um. Whose quarterbacking for the Ravens? Lamarch at
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: March's pretty good? Right? Yes? Yeah, yes, he had a
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: good week last week. I was so start but he
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: picked it up. He was okay, pretty good player. Um yeah,
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: I'll go with the twelve. I know you don't have
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: much use for him. I'll go with the Ravens. Uh.
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: Sunday at one the oh and one Jets visit the
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: one in oh Browns. Yeah? Uh? What was that? Jets
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: and brown Jets and Browns? Did I did? I skip
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: the Jets and Browns game? So will everybody else? Oh?
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: Here we go? Sorry it was right below. Uh, Cleveland
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: by five and a half, five and a half. I
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: do not have the same list that you. I'm gonna
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: take Cleveland and win. Um, but I'm gonna grab those
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: points for the Jets. I think it'll be close. Cleveland
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: to win. Cleveland covers. Yes, I'm with Alex Cleveland both ways.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Jets outright? Yeah? Really, yea, what is
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: going on? Jets? Jets both ways? Say this is why
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: you're two thirteen and one. That's one of the games
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: that you always picked the other way. I know, what
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: are you doing doing the Castanza thing? Okay? Yeah? Sunday
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: at one, the one and oh Commanders visit the oh
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: and one Lions. Okay, so I want you to pay attention.
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Lions by one and a half. Lions by one and
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: a half. That's a tough one. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: take you know what. I'm gonna take Detroit. I watched
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: Hard Knocks. I liked it. That's enough for me, Alex. Yeah,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Detroit to win Detroit minus one and a half. Yeah,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Detroit too. I'm probably gonna live to
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: regret it because every time I take the Lions, I lose.
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: But I'll take Detroit. Detroit. Can yell at Hardy? You two, yep,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: me too? It's good, Ammo to yell at Hardy after
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: our game. Sunday at one, the OO and one Colts
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: visit the oh and one Jaguars. Colts by four and
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: a half. Hmm that I just I can't pick Jacksonville. Um,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: Indianapolis was up and down. I'm gonna take Indie on
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: the road. That's the favorite retweet by the points retweet. Yeah,
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: I want to take Indie, but I don't feel great
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: about it. I just they looked like the same kind
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: of team. I thought Matt Ryan played well. He threw
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: for a lot of yards. Uh one of the receivers
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: taken after Taykwon throw it and had a terrible drop
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: in the end zone. And Alec Pierce. Oh, yeah, that's
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: never nady guy. Right. Oh. I don't like him at all,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: but he's one of those guys. Yeah, Fred, you liked him, Yeah,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: you don't like him. I didn't think the Colts look
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: great in that game. I thought they were very lucky
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: to tie. They probably should have been won in overtime.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: But I'll take the Colts to bounce. What's the number?
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Four and a half Colts favored. Yes, I'll take the
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: Colts to win, but I'll take the number and the hook. Okay,
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: all right? Um Sunday at one, the one and oh
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: Buccaneers travel to the one in oh Saints Tampa by
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: two and a half. And I think New Orleans has
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: won something stupid like seventh straight or something, not cleaning
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: the playoff game against these four regular against Brady. I
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: think that's gonna change this week. I'm gonna take Tampa Bay.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: I'm gonna we'll lay those points. I'm going to take
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: the Bucks Bucks two minus two and a half. Yeah,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: I will take the Saints. I think that they have
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: their number. I think they know how to defend Brady,
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: and I think that that offensive line is going to
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: be under siege against the Saints front. You hate Brady, Yeah,
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: I don't know why I picked against Brady last week.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: That's another one of my rules that I went against.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go back to picking with Tom Brady,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: back to the well, back to swapping spit with Tom Brady. Yeah,
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: like you did once on Day at one, the Owen
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: one Panthers visit the one and oh, Brian Dable led
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Giants Giants by two and a half. Yeah, I like
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: what they did. Say, Quan obviously looked good. I'm gonna
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: take the Giants and Brian Dable. Um, I can't pick Carolina.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: I feel like that's gonna end pretty soon with with
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: Matt rule there, so, yeah, Giants lay the points same,
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: I will take the Panthers. I think the Giants were
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: very fortunate and they had something on their side that
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: I can't really talk about. That's the only reason why
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: they won. Why can't you talk about I had Tennessee
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: and knockout. Oh. I'll go with the Giants to win
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: this game Sunday at one oh No, we're gonna skip
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: over the Patriots um and we're gonna go to four
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: oh five. I thought they got rid of the four
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: oh five. I thought they did too. I believed you
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: last week. I guess not. I didn't um the Owen
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: one Falcons. Visit the Owen one ran the Rams by
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: ten and a half blowsers. That's a lot of points.
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: It is a lot of points. Do you want to
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: lay them or not? I'm gonna I'm gonna take the Rams,
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: but I'm gonna take the points. Why I'm gonna take
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: the Rams to win, I'm gonna switch it up or no, uh,
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: Rams to win Rams eleven and a half decisive. I
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: am going to take the Rams both ways too. I
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: think they bounced back after a poor performance in the opener.
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: Me too, Rams both ways four oh five one and
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: oh Seahawks at the and one forty nine Ers Noiners
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: by nine and a half. And we had a caller
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: who was very excited on this game about Gino Smith
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: going to San Fran. Uh. I am gonna take San
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: fran to win, but I'm gonna take those points from Seattle.
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: I think it'll be close. I'm gonna do the same.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: I want to see, uh some chaos. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: take San Francisco both ways. I was not very impressed
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: with Seattle the other night. I thought Denver handed them
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: the game. I think this is a suckers bet. Forty
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: nine is win, but they don't cover. Okay. Uh. Four
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: twenty five The Owen one Bengals at the Owen one
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: Cowboys without Dak Prescott Bengals by seven and a half,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: seven and a half. And who and who is quarterbacking rush?
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: What is that? Yeah, I'm gonna take Minnesota last year.
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Cincinnati. I'll lay the points. Bounce back
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: week for them. Yeah, Cincinnati to win, Cincinnati to cover. Yeah,
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Cincinnati both ways too. I think they
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: bounced back me too. Cincinnati both ways. Four twenty five
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: The oo and one Texans at the Owen one Broncos
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: Broncos by nine and a half. Noine at home. Of course,
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: this is your upset pick of the week for Duce.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: Can we Denver at home? They're at home? Yeah there,
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: of course there. I'm gonna take Houston to win. I
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: don't worry. I'm gonna take Denver to win, but Houston
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: to cover. And I am going to do Denver both
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: ways and at least Fred to break the tie Denver
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: both ways. Okay. Four twenty five the Owen one Cardinals
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: at the one Raids Rates by five and a half,
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: five and a hey, let's go Raiders. Josh lost a
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: close one in the division last week. I think they
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: bounced back get their first win. Yep, Vegas, Vegas. I'll
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: take Vegas both ways. I thought about taking the points,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: but the Cardinals just didn't look very good. Tyler Marie
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: just doesn't do it for me. He runs too much,
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: little tips, a little silly man running fast. Yeah, I'm
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: gonna go with the Raiders as well. Although was there
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: criticism of the play calling by Josh McDonald. I heard
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: criticism from one place in one place only, and that
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: your favorite betting show on this hot side Lift Shafts
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: was like viscerated Josh McCoy targeting Davanta Adams like seventeen times.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, like the problem, He's like
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: a kidney candy stories I have and week in a row,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: the expert betting had the Patriots this week, um eight
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: twenty Sunday night on and be sure um is he's
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: still doing those games al Michaels. No, he's doing the
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: game tonight right right. I think it's al Michaels and
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: Herb Street on the now and oh so I can't
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: remember anymore because al Michael doesn't hear Tarrico impression. That's
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: pretty good A little bit I have to work at
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: I'll work shop or shop Um bears one and but
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: I let it go Bears one and no at the
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: pack one pack bite nine and a half pack. Wow,
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: nine and a half. That's a big number. But I
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: think Chicago stinks, So I'm gonna I'm gonna take the
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: pack and I'll lay those points. Yeah, I'm going with
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: green Bay. I think Aaron Rodgers is probably a little
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: embarrassed after last week, so I'm gonna take green Bay
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: across the board. Yeah, I'm gonna do that too. Um,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: they just maybe Chicago can't do anything against Rogers, seems
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: I am gonna take those points. Paul. Packers win, but
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: they do not cover at home. All right, Monday night
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: is a double header. I'm sorry you took Green Bay
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: and then you took Chicago to cover. Yep uh, Monday
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: night is a double header. The first one seven fifteen
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: on ESPN, the Owen One Titans visit the one in
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: Oh Bills Bills by ten. I'm definitely going Bills here. Yeah,
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna lay the points. I'm gonna lay
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: the points. Bills win. H Philly. Tennessee played has played
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: them tough recently, they've dominated. Yeah, Bills win, Tennessee covers. Yeah,
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: I'm mad at Tennessee, so I'm just gonna take the
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Bills to cover. I'm mad at rabel my boy, because
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: you get to me last week. Randy Bullock. I'll find
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: him like I find Lee Evan did it on purpose.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: I'll find Lee Evan someday and I'll find Randy Bullock
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: because that's the second year that Randy Bullock did that
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: to me. Folks, here's your upset of the way folks,
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: Titans outright, Titans outright. I like it. I like the confidence.
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: I mean, unlike his normal upsets. That's an upset. They're
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: getting ten points. That's an upset. Eight thirty, so they
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: didn't even wait for the other one to finish eight.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: They're ones on ESPN and on the one to know
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: Vikings at the one to know Eagles eggles by two. Yeah,
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: this is Minnesota. I always got the wrong beat on them.
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: I'll probably be wrong again, but I'm gonna take Philly.
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: I'll lay the points Philly, Philly. Oh, I see what
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: you did there? Took me. It took me a second.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: The CTE again, we don't talk about that here. Here's
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: my my wonder, Like, do I just allow Minnesota to
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: abuse me like they do every other year and then
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: do the opposite? You know what, screw it, I'm gonna
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: take Minnesota. I want to get hurt again. Yeah, I
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: want to be an abusive relationship. Yeah. I fear that
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: I'm going to be. I fear that I'm going to
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: be caught underrating the Eagles this year. I think the
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: Eagles are very good, but I want to I'm gonna
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: pick them to get it out of my sister, and
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: if they screw me, then I'll on them. I think
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: the Eagles has some talent. I don't believe in the
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: passer Jalen Hurts, but it finds ways to win. So
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the Eagles in that game. All right. Now,
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: we go back to one o'clock on Sunday. Amazingly, we
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: have seven minutes to get this game and it's the
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: oh and one Patriots at the one and oh Steelers. Now, Paul,
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: what's the handle? Okay? In this game? The spread is
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: the Patriots are favored by one and a half. I
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: know that we were talking about two a little bit.
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: What I have, we're gonna go about one. What I
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: had this morning out of the paper was one and
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: a half. So that's what we're going with one and
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: a half. Patriots are favored. Didn't answer my question, what's
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: the handle on this game? I don't know what that means.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: That means like the amount of money bet? How the
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: hell do I know? You don't know? It's got to
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: be in there. What do you think I'm taking books?
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: Seven figures? Like? Is it a big handle? I don't know?
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: Probably what do you think I'm stay away from it,
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: like Caesar's mean, how do I know what? How much
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: is one sharps? The sharps? No? And where's the money falling?
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: I feel like the offenses are kind of a wash
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: at this point, and I got to give the edge
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: to the Pittsburgh defense. I agree with what everybody's been saying.
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: I think it's a it's a's teens to teens kind
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: of a game. I'm gonna go with Pittsburgh seventeen thirteen. Evan,
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: you already said sixteen thirteen. I said seventeen thirteen Patriots.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: I like the Patriots in this game without t J Watt.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: I ain't at that really to I think t J
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: Watt we're playing the Patriots might put up negative yardage.
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's a coin flip game,
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: and I think the fact that t J. Watt's not
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: playing in the game, I give it fifty Patriots winless.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Are you gonna pick over that Patriots? We're doing scores
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: for this one too, right, yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah,
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Patriots twenty one Pittsburgh fourteen. Okay, we're in the twenties, baby,
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: let's go. Yeah. I work for the Patriots, so I
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: like the Patriots in this game. Um, I don't feel
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: great about it. I don't feel great about either team.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: I think the offenses are both bad. I think that
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: Wad injury is big for Pittsburgh. I don't think that
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: the Patriots turned the ball over multiple times again. And
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: if Pittsburgh needs to put drives together to score, I
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: think it's gonna be a lot more difficult than it
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: was for them to get to twenty last week sixteen
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: thirteen Patriots. I think it could go either way. You know,
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: turn and overs obviously can can rec havoc on these games.
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: I don't see either team mounting a lot of sustained
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: offense in this game. I think the Patriots will have
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: just enough to get by Nick Folk. Everybody, what's the
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: name of this new stadium now? It's nothin. Yeah. I
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: think the Steelers have a bad season and the fans
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: blame this name change on that. But anyway, I'm the
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: kind of analysis you can only find here on Patriots.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: This is a This turns out to be a get
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: right game for the Patriots. Um So I'm looking at
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: twenty seven ten Patriots win this game two stands alone. Yeah,
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: I think the Sharps did know something. They didn't want
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: to go all the way with this spread, but I
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: think they did know something, and that's why the Patriots
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: are favored in this game. So you might be right
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: twenty seven ten. I might be right, but more likely
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: I'm wrong judge based on last week. So just keep
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: that in mind if you do tend to um, you know,
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: bet on these game. Yeah, that the Pittsburgh offens or
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: performance last week sort of worried me in terms of
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: like their improvement. I still think Trubisky is better than
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty one Roethlisberger, but he really didn't do anything.
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: He just kind of avoided mistakes and stayed out of
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: the way and they didn't move the ball all day. Yeah,
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: I mean, as a result, you can't play like that.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: It looked a lot like the Patriots. I mean it's
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: just you know, and and and that's as I said
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: at the top, but it's like striking when you have
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: like Chase Claypool and like, you know, pieces that you're like,
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: they should be able to get the ball. I kind
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: of think of those guys as kind of like I
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: think they're good, Like I think Deanta Johnson's a good
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: slot guy. I like them a lot, yeah, but I
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: don't like think of them as game breaking kind of players.
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: Do you think of Claypool? And I think maybe you're
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: a little higher on Clayton No. I mean I think
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: he had a couple of moments last year that maybe
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: skew the vision of them a little bit. You know.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: But and if I if I thought that like Nagi
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: Harris was looking in you know, good, yeah, that I'd say, well,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: he could be a factor. I think I think they
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: need to throw the ball to him more. Yeah, I
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: mean even the touchdown they threw Room was just like awkward,
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: you know, similar Patriots stuff. All right, Well that's gonna
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered. The John
