- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering the one piece live action Netflix series Season two,
- 0:17Speaker 1: episode six, Nammy Dearest Dearest. In this episode, Nammy is
- 0:28Speaker 1: sick as hell and Lufy is going to climb a
- 0:31Speaker 1: mountain with her on his back. Meanwhile everybody else just
- 0:36Speaker 1: sits and stews. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the
- 1:00Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:03Speaker 1: Bernadette and Florian for commissioning this episode. I am really
- 1:10Speaker 1: really sad to be reminded that there are only eight
- 1:13Speaker 1: episodes of the show. I don't know why I had
- 1:15Speaker 1: it in my head that there were ten, and so
- 1:17Speaker 1: this means that there's only two remaining, and I'm very
- 1:20Speaker 1: very much mad about it. I'm very mad about it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: What can you do? So? Oh my god, Florian. There's
- 1:33Speaker 1: times where I'm just like, can anybody ever actually come
- 1:38Speaker 1: new into Unspoiled shows? Because we overdo it on inside
- 1:44Speaker 1: chokes with other like, there's so many shows that I cover.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Florian's in the chat saying this episode, the straw Hats
- 1:51Speaker 1: have to shag ass and find a doctor, which is
- 1:54Speaker 1: a reference to something that Rashawn and I got very
- 1:56Speaker 1: preoccupied by on a recent Supernatural episode, because shagass is
- 2:01Speaker 1: not a thing that we have ever heard. I don't.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I just don't. I don't care for it. So this
- 2:13Speaker 1: intro for this episode I should have done as Welcome
- 2:20Speaker 1: to season two, episode six, aka the episode where we
- 2:24Speaker 1: find out that Lufy has abs you, guys. I am
- 2:31Speaker 1: deeply uncomfortable with being the age that I am at
- 2:37Speaker 1: because when I'm watching TV, I forget that I'm forty
- 2:41Speaker 1: one and I should not be looking any sort of
- 2:44Speaker 1: way at these young men. It's gross, but I forget
- 2:48Speaker 1: that I'm old. So I have a moment of reacting
- 2:52Speaker 1: like I'm twenty five, and then I'm just like, oh girl,
- 2:56Speaker 1: oh that is not Austin says the actor said he
- 3:03Speaker 1: wanted to work out Kauzzorro and Sonji's actors got ripped.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I would go so far as to say that Lufy
- 3:10Speaker 1: has outdone them both. I mean, look, it's not really
- 3:17Speaker 1: a particular look that I even like. It's more that,
- 3:21Speaker 1: like I can acknowledge that was a lot of work
- 3:25Speaker 1: and it was not something I was expecting. I was thinking,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, Lufi is animated when he doesn't have a
- 3:30Speaker 1: shirt on is actually being pretty muscular. So this isn't
- 3:35Speaker 1: outside of the realm of what's you know, character wise
- 3:38Speaker 1: meant like pretty much accurate, I feel, but it's just
- 3:42Speaker 1: not something that has ever mattered to me. And to
- 3:47Speaker 1: be real, like, I don't remember how many times we've
- 3:50Speaker 1: seen Soanji with his shirt off. I'm pretty sure we
- 3:53Speaker 1: can all agree canonically, Zora, we all know is jack
- 3:58Speaker 1: as hell Sanji sceptis being jacked, but it's not something
- 4:01Speaker 1: that's important. Lufy is is just sort of it's not
- 4:06Speaker 1: at all a consideration. And there was a really great
- 4:13Speaker 1: reel that popped up in my feed, and it's him
- 4:17Speaker 1: and Taz watching TV. They're eating a bunch of snacks.
- 4:24Speaker 1: The camera turns and this scene has just started, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: the camera turns back and they've dropped all their snacks
- 4:31Speaker 1: and they're doing sit ups and lifting weights and it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: you know, this is the thing where it's just like,
- 4:39Speaker 1: on the one hand, I do appreciate in a weird
- 4:43Speaker 1: way that there is an expectation that is unfair being
- 4:46Speaker 1: imposed on men when it's for so long been on
- 4:51Speaker 1: women only, So that y'all can get a feeling of
- 4:54Speaker 1: what it's like on the other hand, I don't want
- 4:57Speaker 1: unrealistic expectations put on any I don't want this for us,
- 5:02Speaker 1: And as it seems that we're going down a path
- 5:05Speaker 1: of even thinner being optimal, I'm a scared. I'm a
- 5:11Speaker 1: scared of the direction that we are heading. But I
- 5:16Speaker 1: will acknowledge that there is something that I like about
- 5:20Speaker 1: getting to see actors outside of the sphere of whatever
- 5:23Speaker 1: property they were in, and that is actors being very
- 5:28Speaker 1: vocal about how impossible to maintain these physiques are. And
- 5:34Speaker 1: you can even see when they're like on the interview
- 5:36Speaker 1: circuit that they themselves no longer even look like that,
- 5:39Speaker 1: because now we are chilled out and beginning to eat
- 5:44Speaker 1: a little bit more normally, we're beginning to hydrate, you know.
- 5:48Speaker 1: So anyway, all of this to say, I was taken aback.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I've watched this episode twice, and the second time was
- 5:57Speaker 1: with my husband and I was just like, I wonder
- 6:01Speaker 1: how he's going to react to this, and Lufy runs
- 6:04Speaker 1: in and he just goes Jesus, and then a second
- 6:10Speaker 1: later he's fucking ripped. This episode is so sad, though
- 6:16Speaker 1: like watching it the second time around, I was I
- 6:20Speaker 1: enjoyed it both times but it's a bummer to see.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Mommy's acting as a sick person is great. She's very
- 6:32Speaker 1: convincing when she opens her eyes and Sanji is right
- 6:39Speaker 1: there offering her some consumme he made Dinah consumme and
- 6:47Speaker 1: she thinks that it's only it's the next morning, and
- 6:50Speaker 1: he has to tell her that was four days ago.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Oh y'all, and he gets these tears in his eyes
- 6:57Speaker 1: as he said it, Like this is one of those
- 7:02Speaker 1: moments where I'm like, has bro had to deal with
- 7:05Speaker 1: this before? Has the actor? When we now know from
- 7:10Speaker 1: where I'm at in the anime that young Sonji had
- 7:14Speaker 1: to deal with watching his mother waste away. That kind
- 7:19Speaker 1: of brings an element to this as well of me
- 7:22Speaker 1: being like, is this triggering for him? You know, he
- 7:27Speaker 1: was a little boy and he saw his mother dying
- 7:30Speaker 1: and it was this slow, agonizing thing, and as a character,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I could see Sonji really kind of panicking when facing this.
- 7:43Speaker 1: But there's also me wondering as the actor, is he
- 7:48Speaker 1: drawing on something because it felt so real this moment
- 7:51Speaker 1: of like it is painful to me to have to
- 7:55Speaker 1: tell you what's going on because you don't know, and
- 7:58Speaker 1: the fact that you don't know. Is really scary to
- 8:01Speaker 1: me because that indicates how bad it is. And he
- 8:06Speaker 1: tells her we're getting you help, but it's very obvious
- 8:11Speaker 1: that like that's just words right now. There's no plan,
- 8:16Speaker 1: we don't have an island in mind. We don't know
- 8:20Speaker 1: what even to ask for, you know. And Nammy says
- 8:26Speaker 1: something to him like thank you for being worried about me,
- 8:29Speaker 1: and he says, I'm always worried about you, and he smiles,
- 8:32Speaker 1: but as soon as she closes her eyes, that smile
- 8:36Speaker 1: just falls away and he just looks like panicked, and
- 8:41Speaker 1: nam trying to sit up because she's just convinced she's
- 8:44Speaker 1: fine and then looking down and seeing the black lines
- 8:48Speaker 1: going down her arm and realizing like oh shit, yeah, yeah.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So we go out onto the deck and we have
- 9:02Speaker 1: the slow pan Sanji's in an overcoat, oos Up's in
- 9:08Speaker 1: a fur coat and blowing on his hands and huddled up,
- 9:13Speaker 1: and then we've got Zorro shirtless, just standing there looking
- 9:19Speaker 1: cold as hell, by the way, like the skin is
- 9:24Speaker 1: all goose prickly, like you can tell he's cold, and
- 9:29Speaker 1: Usup is just like you know, everybody else is wearing
- 9:33Speaker 1: a shirt and he's finally like fine, And it's interesting
- 9:38Speaker 1: to me how Oosup and Zoro have like a couple
- 9:42Speaker 1: moments this episode, this and then later on at the bar,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and I am honestly not remembering if they have this
- 9:52Speaker 1: sort of like relationship in the anime where they they
- 9:57Speaker 1: butt heads. It's not as as dramatic as it is
- 10:02Speaker 1: with Sanji, who they're like there's a direct competition between
- 10:05Speaker 1: the two of them because they're both fighters. It's a
- 10:09Speaker 1: much more oos Up sort of calling out Zoro's like
- 10:15Speaker 1: machismo almost. I don't know, but I just didn't remember
- 10:21Speaker 1: the dynamic being like this between them, And I'm wondering
- 10:24Speaker 1: if this is more for the show or if I'm
- 10:25Speaker 1: forgetting things. I know that, you know, there are some
- 10:29Speaker 1: eventual story beats where they are definitely at odds with
- 10:32Speaker 1: each other. But anyway, we, you know, everybody is just
- 10:40Speaker 1: kind of somber and trying to there. Nobody wants to
- 10:47Speaker 1: talk about Nami and what's going on with her. And
- 10:53Speaker 1: we finally have the moment where they spot this island
- 10:57Speaker 1: and they have to decide if they're gonna go there,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and like Vivi is put on the spot because she
- 11:05Speaker 1: has to she wants to get home as quickly as
- 11:08Speaker 1: she can, and they have their you know, they have
- 11:14Speaker 1: their crewmate who is in danger, and do you have
- 11:18Speaker 1: time for us to stop off at this island and
- 11:22Speaker 1: you know, find out if there is somebody there who
- 11:24Speaker 1: can help us. And she says, I do need to
- 11:28Speaker 1: get home as soon as possible. That is why we
- 11:32Speaker 1: are going to stop at this island and get her,
- 11:35Speaker 1: or stop at the first island we find and get
- 11:37Speaker 1: her help. They haven't even spotted the island yet when
- 11:40Speaker 1: they are having this conversation. I forgot. And it's just
- 11:45Speaker 1: funny because this moment of her like having to stop
- 11:47Speaker 1: and think about it is like, if you had any
- 11:51Speaker 1: other response, I don't know if we would be able
- 11:54Speaker 1: to keep you on this ship if you were like, look,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I know that she's sick and like probably gonna die,
- 12:01Speaker 1: but I really need to get home. So all of
- 12:04Speaker 1: you that have only known me like two days, I'm
- 12:07Speaker 1: going to need you to prioritize me over her. Thank you.
- 12:14Speaker 1: And I just I don't want to talk about Woppole. Okay,
- 12:20Speaker 1: that's what's happening right now. I'm actively avoiding talking about him.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I hate him so much. I hate him in the anime.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I hate him here it's different than Mister three because
- 12:34Speaker 1: in the anime, he has the exact set, like they're
- 12:39Speaker 1: doing the same thing as they did with Mister three,
- 12:40Speaker 1: where they're taking the precise, exact energy of this villain
- 12:45Speaker 1: and bringing it to live action. So it's identical for
- 12:48Speaker 1: me the experience. But mister three there's a sort of
- 12:52Speaker 1: weird fascination too, and he has like an angle, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 1: this bizarre power and this weird preoccupy with art. There
- 13:01Speaker 1: is something that is both sickening but also kind of riveting.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Whoopole is absolutely, in my opinion, what if Donald Trump
- 13:21Speaker 1: were truly unleashed, if the inner version of him were
- 13:27Speaker 1: let out, Because Bro, we're talking about our alleged president
- 13:37Speaker 1: is a giant baby and very cruel and very shortsighted,
- 13:47Speaker 1: entitled like all the things, and there is just that
- 13:52Speaker 1: endless hunger. You know. That metaphor is just very correct,
- 13:58Speaker 1: and so Woppole is an embodiment of something that I
- 14:02Speaker 1: feel that we are fighting right now that is not
- 14:07Speaker 1: that like a major portion of our population has not
- 14:10Speaker 1: acknowledged this is who he really is, and they have
- 14:14Speaker 1: a whole other person that they see when they look
- 14:16Speaker 1: at him until recently, where he's like done a couple
- 14:19Speaker 1: things that maybe has alienated some people, but like, honestly,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'm not even really buying it. So a couple of people, Uh, sorry,
- 14:31Speaker 1: Austin says, you mean not Jack Black. Austin, I had
- 14:37Speaker 1: to double check, and he actually has played his character
- 14:40Speaker 1: in School of Rock on Broadway. This dude, I'm like
- 14:45Speaker 1: unable to pinpoint who he reminds me of because the
- 14:50Speaker 1: actor's name is Rob Colletti, and he is doing this
- 14:55Speaker 1: thing that is ringing all these like bells in my head,
- 15:00Speaker 1: making me feel like I know this guy from something.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I've seen him somewhere, and I looked at the IMDb
- 15:06Speaker 1: like known for us, and nothing is familiar to me.
- 15:10Speaker 1: There's not a thing that I have seen, So I
- 15:13Speaker 1: don't know what it is about this guy. It may
- 15:16Speaker 1: be that he's like kind of drawing on Jack Black
- 15:20Speaker 1: for his voice, and that's what's triggering that little like
- 15:24Speaker 1: I recognize him thing in me is that he's so
- 15:26Speaker 1: on point with the voice imitation. But this dude is awful,
- 15:34Speaker 1: and he's awful on such a huge variety of levels.
- 15:39Speaker 1: He's incredibly greedy, he's super loud. His jaw is so
- 15:46Speaker 1: ugly to look at, and when he eats, there's food
- 15:49Speaker 1: like stuck on the outside of it because it doesn't
- 15:51Speaker 1: work like normal lips, you know, his tongue doesn't like
- 15:54Speaker 1: seem to even reach out there. So there's just this
- 15:58Speaker 1: real kind of nasty growths about him. He is cruel.
- 16:03Speaker 1: He is bombastic in a way that's not even like
- 16:10Speaker 1: fun or silly. It's it's a toddler throwing a tantrum.
- 16:16Speaker 1: That's really I keep going back to that. It really
- 16:19Speaker 1: feels like this is a dude who's actually screaming and
- 16:24Speaker 1: stomping his feet when he doesn't get what he wants,
- 16:27Speaker 1: you know, a kind of spoiled brat that is just
- 16:33Speaker 1: metastasized into a whole new level of creature, like a
- 16:38Speaker 1: legendary Pokemon, you know. Nohoa says, I saw an interview
- 16:45Speaker 1: from the actor that hinted that he took inspiration from
- 16:48Speaker 1: certain real life people. Yeah, I was definitely getting that.
- 16:53Speaker 1: There's just you know, something here. And so the first
- 16:58Speaker 1: scene that we get of him, Robin is just getting
- 17:03Speaker 1: off the phone with mister Zero Robin in this like
- 17:08Speaker 1: pleth outfit by the way, which I don't remember from
- 17:11Speaker 1: the anime, but it's certainly a look and his assistance retainers,
- 17:19Speaker 1: I guess is the word you want. They are like
- 17:22Speaker 1: getting mad at her for talking to up Pull any
- 17:25Speaker 1: kind of way when he is a king and she
- 17:27Speaker 1: has to be like, he's not a king. He needs
- 17:31Speaker 1: us if he wants to be a king again. So
- 17:34Speaker 1: actually I can talk to him anyway I feel like,
- 17:37Speaker 1: but we do want to preserve a kind of like
- 17:41Speaker 1: decorum between us. So here is a gift, and it
- 17:47Speaker 1: is a devil fruit. And the way that these work
- 17:51Speaker 1: is that we don't know what kind of power you're
- 17:53Speaker 1: going to get until you get it. Now, I'm really curious,
- 18:00Speaker 1: y'all because this power is so perfectly suited to him.
- 18:03Speaker 1: We don't see this episode like what it is, but
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm wondering if like the person has influence on the fruit,
- 18:11Speaker 1: if there's like a possibility, because you know, you don't
- 18:14Speaker 1: know till you eat it. And I recognize that eventually
- 18:20Speaker 1: it's revealed that like the power will manifest again if
- 18:25Speaker 1: that person dies and like it goes back to a
- 18:28Speaker 1: new fruit, or there is a way that we can
- 18:31Speaker 1: begin to obtain these powers in another way, which I
- 18:35Speaker 1: won't get into but initially I am curious of like,
- 18:41Speaker 1: is it possible to influence what the power is or
- 18:45Speaker 1: how it works? You know, I don't know. So anyway,
- 18:50Speaker 1: he is very excited to see this devil fruit, and
- 18:56Speaker 1: it's not really clear for us right away, like we
- 19:00Speaker 1: could tell he sucks, but it's not until we get
- 19:04Speaker 1: the flashbacks later that we realize how awful he is
- 19:09Speaker 1: and how what bad news it is that he got
- 19:11Speaker 1: his hands on a double fruit. We already know, of course,
- 19:14Speaker 1: we don't want a clear villain getting more superpowers, but
- 19:19Speaker 1: it's very easy in the moment to just be like, well,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and then later, once you see what he is like
- 19:25Speaker 1: before having any powers, you're just like, oh god, how
- 19:28Speaker 1: bad is it going to be? You know? So let's
- 19:36Speaker 1: just talk about these flashbacks here, because eventually the ship,
- 19:42Speaker 1: you know, they spot this island and Vivi recognizes it
- 19:46Speaker 1: as they begin to get closer and says, Drum Island.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And I really love the way this actress is playing
- 19:52Speaker 1: the moment when they're like, oh, so you know it,
- 19:54Speaker 1: and she's super diplomatic of just being like they're people
- 20:00Speaker 1: are supposed to be very warm and kind and they're
- 20:03Speaker 1: they're like renowned for their medicine. She's not saying anything
- 20:07Speaker 1: that's untrue. She is just not mentioning the things that
- 20:11Speaker 1: she has encountered regarding the ruler. And as we go
- 20:16Speaker 1: into a flashback, we see this little girl. Oh. I
- 20:20Speaker 1: don't know where they found this little girl, but is
- 20:23Speaker 1: she charismatic or what? I love her? And she's peeking
- 20:29Speaker 1: in on like basically what amounts to a summit meeting
- 20:34Speaker 1: of a bunch of different rulers regarding what to do
- 20:38Speaker 1: about the warlords. Right, I'm trying to remember the titles
- 20:45Speaker 1: that we have for everything. We have. The Dracula dude
- 20:50Speaker 1: pop up here, This guy I like completely forgot about.
- 20:54Speaker 1: There's all sorts of folks that the camera slowly pans over,
- 20:59Speaker 1: but we don't really much time with them. We're just
- 21:01Speaker 1: establishing that they exist in this episode. And they're talking
- 21:08Speaker 1: about like, well, what do we pay the warlords for
- 21:13Speaker 1: because they're supposed to like protect us and our people,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and somebody else is like, hmm, that's not really their job.
- 21:21Speaker 1: They're just like meant to take on missions and carry
- 21:25Speaker 1: things out for us. They're what you're saying is like
- 21:29Speaker 1: something that's sort of incidental to that, and it all
- 21:34Speaker 1: has to do with the revolution that's being led by
- 21:39Speaker 1: Dragon aka Lufy's dad, and you know the fact that
- 21:45Speaker 1: he is beginning to gain some momentum and this is
- 21:48Speaker 1: very worrying and how hard should we mobilize against this
- 21:53Speaker 1: particular threat. And it's Woppole who is just like not
- 21:57Speaker 1: taking this seriously as a threat, and he's saying that, like,
- 22:03Speaker 1: if y'all are worried about a revolution, just take everything
- 22:08Speaker 1: away from your people and they will stop. It's really
- 22:11Speaker 1: not that hard. My people are happy, and if they
- 22:15Speaker 1: start to act up, I just stop giving them food,
- 22:19Speaker 1: shelter and medicine. Problem solved. Everybody at the table is
- 22:26Speaker 1: very much in agreement that like they're they're not saying anything,
- 22:30Speaker 1: but they're looking at each other like oh boy. And
- 22:33Speaker 1: then we finally see Vivi's dad, King Kobrt, and he
- 22:38Speaker 1: pipes up about how your country had used to be
- 22:43Speaker 1: run by people who gave a fuck, which, of course
- 22:46Speaker 1: Walpole's insistence is just like they didn't know how to
- 22:49Speaker 1: rule people. I do. You tell them how it is,
- 22:53Speaker 1: and if they act up, you tell them how it
- 22:56Speaker 1: is and then beat the shit out of them. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: then tell them how it is, again obviously making no friends.
- 23:04Speaker 1: But Wapoul doesn't care about that, because this is not
- 23:06Speaker 1: a person who thinks he needs anybody else. This is
- 23:10Speaker 1: somebody who is so certain that his power is adequate
- 23:16Speaker 1: to any task that he's untouchable essentially. And Vivi, as
- 23:26Speaker 1: she is watching this, gets caught by uh, I'll you
- 23:33Speaker 1: guys know, I want to say, figure out igorum. And
- 23:38Speaker 1: she is supposed to be on the ship waiting for
- 23:42Speaker 1: her father, but they have a little conversation here that
- 23:48Speaker 1: is so great. First, she's just like, dude, if I'm
- 23:52Speaker 1: supposed to be queen someday, how the hell am i
- 23:55Speaker 1: meant to know how to run shit if I'm not
- 23:58Speaker 1: in on these conversations at all, Like, this is not
- 24:03Speaker 1: a way to train me and teach me. I have
- 24:06Speaker 1: to see something. And Ingram seems to kind of give
- 24:10Speaker 1: her a nod on that one, like okay, you scored
- 24:14Speaker 1: a point there, and then he's like, all right, how
- 24:17Speaker 1: about we make a deal and I'll like bring you
- 24:23Speaker 1: on a tour and you can instead of going straight
- 24:26Speaker 1: back to the ship, and I won't tell your dad
- 24:29Speaker 1: that you snuck out. And she's like well, you're my guardian,
- 24:36Speaker 1: so like not telling him that I snuck out is
- 24:40Speaker 1: really doing yourself a favor, not me. But I will
- 24:44Speaker 1: see this offer and raise you and ice cream and
- 24:50Speaker 1: then we would be square. How about that. It's great,
- 24:53Speaker 1: it's so good, it's so good. So sorry, the seraphim says,
- 25:00Speaker 1: the fact that they kept in king Hamburger. Look, do
- 25:03Speaker 1: not get me started. Marshall is looking around this group
- 25:07Speaker 1: of people and was just like what what what what
- 25:11Speaker 1: is that? And I'm just like, don't worry about it, baby,
- 25:14Speaker 1: you don't need to know any of this yet. It's
- 25:15Speaker 1: like that I can't remember what episode it is, guys,
- 25:17Speaker 1: But there comes a point where like the warlords and
- 25:20Speaker 1: the World Government, all these people are introduced in one
- 25:25Speaker 1: single episode, and everybody was like excited for me to
- 25:29Speaker 1: reach that episode, and I was just like, guys, this
- 25:33Speaker 1: is just a freaking cast list of forty people. I
- 25:37Speaker 1: can't I'm sure you're excited because you know anything that
- 25:41Speaker 1: happens with this this is too much. It does not
- 25:43Speaker 1: make an impression on me. And I was just trying
- 25:45Speaker 1: to be like, don't worry about it, don't worry about it.
- 25:48Speaker 1: You'll know what you need to know when you need
- 25:49Speaker 1: to know it, just don't worry about it. Yeah, Austin says,
- 25:55Speaker 1: I saw so many many live action onlinees, goo was
- 25:58Speaker 1: that Abraham Lincoln? And like short answer is, yes, it is,
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's not. But like h hmm, yep, yep. Correct. So
- 26:10Speaker 1: then we have the end of the meeting while Pull
- 26:13Speaker 1: comes storming out. It's unclear if there was an agreement
- 26:18Speaker 1: reached that he just disagrees with, or if it's simply
- 26:22Speaker 1: being called out by King Kobra that he's pissed regarding.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I think it's just that. But he is coming down
- 26:31Speaker 1: the hall. Vivi is standing in the center of the
- 26:34Speaker 1: hallway just staring at him like as one would because
- 26:38Speaker 1: the dude is a fucking spectacle, and he just raises
- 26:43Speaker 1: a hand and slaps the shit out of her. And
- 26:47Speaker 1: as soon as she goes down, I'm like, oh, man,
- 26:51Speaker 1: I don't remember what happens when he finds out who
- 26:54Speaker 1: she is, and I had totally forgot. He doesn't give
- 26:59Speaker 1: any fucks at all. There's no moment of like, oh shit,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I slapped a princess. It's didn't you slap the princess?
- 27:08Speaker 1: Fuck off? And I could not help but laugh a
- 27:12Speaker 1: little bit because like he starts off with like, whoa
- 27:15Speaker 1: the Princess? For a split second, I was like, wait,
- 27:18Speaker 1: is he really Oh nope, nope, that was sarcasm. I
- 27:21Speaker 1: just like got taken in for a split second and
- 27:23Speaker 1: I was cracking up. So I'm sorry. Sarah fram says, Oda,
- 27:32Speaker 1: how can I avoid seeming like I'm making fun of
- 27:34Speaker 1: in real life people? I know, I'll just make fun
- 27:36Speaker 1: of everyone. I mean, that isn't a bad tactic on
- 27:40Speaker 1: a certain level. I see the logic to it. Austin says,
- 27:47Speaker 1: saw a bunch of latinos go, that's just my uncle
- 27:50Speaker 1: about King Taco. Like, you know, there there are stereotypes
- 27:55Speaker 1: and then there are stereotypes, and like to a degree,
- 27:59Speaker 1: something might hit. What can you do? I'm not trying
- 28:04Speaker 1: to get mad when people make fun of basic white
- 28:06Speaker 1: ladies liking pumpkins, spice and infinity scarves. I am what
- 28:13Speaker 1: I am, and that is just simply you know, sure
- 28:18Speaker 1: I don't have waste length, blonde extensions and Mormon husband,
- 28:25Speaker 1: but I took plenty of boxes and that's just something
- 28:29Speaker 1: that I have to live with. So Seraphim says, oh no,
- 28:35Speaker 1: he knew full well who she was and did that
- 28:37Speaker 1: because he was pissed off at her dad. Oh did he? Oh?
- 28:43Speaker 1: I thought he was just taking it out on anybody,
- 28:45Speaker 1: and then it turning out to be who it was.
- 28:47Speaker 1: He was just like, yeah, like I fucking care. Oh okay,
- 28:52Speaker 1: Serafim says, it's clearer in the manga slash anime. Ah okay, Yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 1: I didn't, like I said, I didn't really remember this
- 28:58Speaker 1: scene that well. But Viv Viv displaying a type of
- 29:05Speaker 1: presence of mind, patience, and lack of ego in this
- 29:10Speaker 1: moment that at forty one years, I only aspire to
- 29:17Speaker 1: apologizes for bumping into him. I just I I know
- 29:27Speaker 1: that there is a better way to be than the
- 29:29Speaker 1: way that I am about a lot of things. I
- 29:32Speaker 1: know in theory that that is true, but the way
- 29:36Speaker 1: that just clear slips my mind in the moment. There
- 29:43Speaker 1: is one way to cope, and that has slapped this
- 29:47Speaker 1: bitch right the fuck back. I mean, I am not
- 29:51Speaker 1: cut out for the type of job that Viv has,
- 29:54Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. So she smiles in it as
- 30:00Speaker 1: she says this, completely convincing, and then we cut to
- 30:05Speaker 1: her alone in this other room, crying to herself. And
- 30:09Speaker 1: Ingram coming up to her and being like, you were magnificent,
- 30:13Speaker 1: and I was like, that is a word that gets
- 30:15Speaker 1: thrown around a lot and honestly often isn't deserved, but
- 30:19Speaker 1: in this case it is. There have been there's a
- 30:23Speaker 1: lot of moments throughout media where there's like a little
- 30:26Speaker 1: kid that's meant to have impressed an adult, and it'll
- 30:31Speaker 1: feel a lot of the time like you're congratulating the
- 30:35Speaker 1: kid for simply not having been a complete asshole about something,
- 30:39Speaker 1: and that just feels like the bottom of the barrel,
- 30:42Speaker 1: Like how low is the bar You know, here this
- 30:48Speaker 1: is completely valid, congratulating her for the way that she
- 30:53Speaker 1: just managed to sidestep what could have been a really
- 30:57Speaker 1: ugly situation. You know, he was looking for a fight
- 31:03Speaker 1: and she just wouldn't give him one. I mean, I
- 31:10Speaker 1: can have a temper on me sometimes, guys. I know
- 31:13Speaker 1: this about myself, and it's still it's still you know,
- 31:21Speaker 1: I mean, the people out there who are looking for
- 31:24Speaker 1: a fight, I don't want to sink to their level.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I don't want to give them what they're after and
- 31:32Speaker 1: the satisfaction of that. But it's so it makes me
- 31:37Speaker 1: feel so much better for a second, and it's just
- 31:44Speaker 1: really short term thinking. So anyway, that is pretty much
- 31:53Speaker 1: the extent of the flashbacks that we get this episode
- 31:57Speaker 1: of viv I don't feel like we see her with
- 32:01Speaker 1: her father at all. I'm I'm trying to remember because
- 32:07Speaker 1: when I scrub through the episode too fast, guys, I've
- 32:09Speaker 1: been getting like little error sometimes. So I'm just trying
- 32:11Speaker 1: to like make sure that I don't do it unless
- 32:15Speaker 1: it's like absolutely crucial for me to remember something. Oh
- 32:19Speaker 1: and I should mention too, that's what's the sword bro
- 32:24Speaker 1: from Drum Island, guys. What is his name? Dalton? Thank you?
- 32:31Speaker 1: Dalton is standing like he's behind woppole when he hits
- 32:34Speaker 1: Vivi and he apologizes as they're walking away and looks
- 32:38Speaker 1: really embarrassed. And then later when Igorm is comforting Vivian,
- 32:44Speaker 1: telling her that she is displayed what a great leader
- 32:48Speaker 1: she will be, he is standing outside the doorway listening
- 32:53Speaker 1: and they're sort of like there's an expression on his
- 32:56Speaker 1: face that I am very much putting down to like
- 33:01Speaker 1: wistfulness of that literal child is a better leader than
- 33:07Speaker 1: the one that we have right now, you know, like
- 33:11Speaker 1: it's it's a pride in her, but also just like
- 33:15Speaker 1: chagrin and regret. So this we don't. Let's jump back
- 33:25Speaker 1: to our friends getting off the ship. They are there's
- 33:32Speaker 1: not like anything here to indicate a bustling dock, you
- 33:40Speaker 1: know that. It's it's very much as they climb up
- 33:44Speaker 1: toward the walls of this keep this town, that outside
- 33:50Speaker 1: of these walls, it's pretty much deserted. There's not commerce
- 33:56Speaker 1: going on or anything like that. As they approach, first
- 34:00Speaker 1: of all, there's just like a layer of snow over everything,
- 34:04Speaker 1: but also there are like busted pieces of carts and
- 34:08Speaker 1: things cast around, like things are just in disrepair and
- 34:13Speaker 1: quite messy and have clearly been for a while, judging
- 34:18Speaker 1: on the fact that there is undisturbed snow covering a
- 34:21Speaker 1: lot of it. And as they approach, there is somebody
- 34:25Speaker 1: yelling that they don't want to deal with pirates, and
- 34:29Speaker 1: Lufy is saying, but our friend is sick, she needs help,
- 34:34Speaker 1: and they're just like, don't really care. And as they
- 34:37Speaker 1: continue forward, somebody fires a shot hits Viv's arm. It's
- 34:45Speaker 1: like it's a graze on the outside. It's not bad,
- 34:49Speaker 1: but uh, it's startling. It's uncalled for, and understandably Lufy
- 34:57Speaker 1: has his reaction that, like, you know, pretty much mirrors
- 35:00Speaker 1: what mine would be, which is he yell's u assholes
- 35:04Speaker 1: and begins to sort of like rear back and wind
- 35:08Speaker 1: up for a punch. Not sure exactly who he was
- 35:12Speaker 1: gonna punch if he can even see anybody. I'm thinking
- 35:14Speaker 1: he would just punch like the wall or something. But this, Yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 1: Seraphim says. One thing I was kind of huh on
- 35:25Speaker 1: was how in the manga slash anime, It's clear this
- 35:28Speaker 1: is an entire country with multiple towns, but live action
- 35:31Speaker 1: made it seem like the whole kingdom is just this
- 35:33Speaker 1: one small village. And yeah, it's the sort of thing
- 35:37Speaker 1: that happens in like a lot of stuff is we
- 35:40Speaker 1: will boil things down, so it's a lot simpler visually.
- 35:45Speaker 1: But I agree Seraphim especially it's it's like when you
- 35:49Speaker 1: say small village, this place is the size of a target.
- 35:54Speaker 1: It's so small it's crazy. Like the idea that all
- 35:58Speaker 1: of these people actually live within these walls is a
- 36:01Speaker 1: little bit bonkers. And while I am not exactly like,
- 36:08Speaker 1: I'm not mad at it, it's just like I'm surprised
- 36:11Speaker 1: that there wasn't more of an effort with CG to
- 36:15Speaker 1: make it look a little bit bigger. Considering Logtown just
- 36:19Speaker 1: looked so good. This Town feels much more like a set.
- 36:25Speaker 1: It still feels like we're outside. It's not like that
- 36:28Speaker 1: kind of thing, but it just does seem the space
- 36:32Speaker 1: is super limited, you know. I have to assume like
- 36:36Speaker 1: for fights later and want not to be more concentrated
- 36:39Speaker 1: so that we can't spread out as much. Probably a
- 36:42Speaker 1: lot of the money went into Logtown, and we'll go
- 36:45Speaker 1: into Alabasta. But based on the fact that we have
- 36:49Speaker 1: not like we've only got two episodes left, I'm actually
- 36:52Speaker 1: realized and we probably won't reach Alabasa this season, So
- 36:56Speaker 1: if we see any of it, it's gonna be like
- 36:58Speaker 1: really really toward the end, and it'll just be like
- 37:03Speaker 1: we have arrived here and then season will be over
- 37:07Speaker 1: kind of thing. Seraphim says, things being as deserted as
- 37:13Speaker 1: they are could just be everyone being in hiding from
- 37:14Speaker 1: the recent attacks. But they keep saying this village instead
- 37:17Speaker 1: of this kingdom. It's not just the set, it's how
- 37:20Speaker 1: they talked about it. That's fair true, But yeah, like
- 37:25Speaker 1: I said to me, visually, it was just like a
- 37:28Speaker 1: very It was bizarrely small, the camera choosing they have
- 37:33Speaker 1: like a drone shot basically, and I sort of felt
- 37:38Speaker 1: like y'all didn't really need to give us a drone
- 37:41Speaker 1: shot if it was gonna be this small. Maybe you
- 37:45Speaker 1: don't want us to know how small the place is
- 37:47Speaker 1: for sure, because I feel like this is sort of
- 37:51Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like I've had campsites bigger than this,
- 37:56Speaker 1: So anyway comes out. And because Vivi does the thing
- 38:03Speaker 1: where she swallows her bride, literally gets on her knees
- 38:07Speaker 1: and places her forehead on the ground and is like,
- 38:10Speaker 1: we are really really sorry if we have done something,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but our friend is in dire straits and is literally
- 38:18Speaker 1: dying and we are asking for your help. And Lufy
- 38:22Speaker 1: looks over at her, and you guys, when she stops
- 38:27Speaker 1: him from punching, she says something like if they attack us,
- 38:33Speaker 1: what happens to Nami? And the way she delivers the
- 38:36Speaker 1: next line, you are the captain, think, girl, Yes, this
- 38:44Speaker 1: is what I have wanted somebody to say to Lufy
- 38:47Speaker 1: for such a while. Here, you know, like it's just
- 38:50Speaker 1: her as a leader, being like this is not leadership behavior, sir.
- 38:56Speaker 1: You don't just get to indulge in your little fucking
- 39:00Speaker 1: you know, like spate of emotion. She right, But I couldn't.
- 39:07Speaker 1: I could not tell you with truthfulness that I'd be
- 39:10Speaker 1: upset at Loofy trying to punch whoever shot at them.
- 39:14Speaker 1: I'd probably be like, yeah, get them loviy. But she's right,
- 39:17Speaker 1: She's right. So Dalton comes out, reads some apologizes I
- 39:25Speaker 1: do love. As he leads them inside. The person who
- 39:28Speaker 1: finded the rifle is just like, sorry about that, and
- 39:32Speaker 1: he has to be like, yeah, they're not trained soldiers,
- 39:35Speaker 1: so they have got itchy trigger fingers, sorry about it.
- 39:39Speaker 1: We've just been through a lot recently, and we find
- 39:43Speaker 1: out that Blackbeard attacked and Wopole basically took himself away
- 39:50Speaker 1: somewhere to hide and completely abandoned his people, and they
- 39:57Speaker 1: got ravaged, and what left is like just trying to
- 40:02Speaker 1: pull it back together again after this awful attack. They're
- 40:06Speaker 1: worried that Blackbeard may come back, but you know, for now,
- 40:11Speaker 1: they've just got to behave as if they're completely rebuilding,
- 40:15Speaker 1: and while poll you know, he is hiding out. It's
- 40:19Speaker 1: interesting because the way that Robin talked about him being
- 40:24Speaker 1: not a king anymore made it sound like he was
- 40:27Speaker 1: actively deposed, and I can't recall how like if there's
- 40:32Speaker 1: any further details here, but it sounds like he just
- 40:37Speaker 1: took off, So I guess the expectation is that after
- 40:42Speaker 1: you just took off like that, you think that people
- 40:44Speaker 1: are going to accept you back if you just try
- 40:47Speaker 1: to mosey back down and like sit back on the
- 40:50Speaker 1: throne again. So anyway, Dalton is clearly just try to
- 41:00Speaker 1: hold shit together here, and it's the person that everybody
- 41:03Speaker 1: is looking to. And later on there's a conversation between
- 41:07Speaker 1: him and Zoro where he talks about trying to keep
- 41:10Speaker 1: everybody united and Zorro says something like and who will
- 41:14Speaker 1: lead these people you? And He's like, no, I don't
- 41:16Speaker 1: want to do that, and Zoro's like, yeah, you don't
- 41:19Speaker 1: always get to choose, though, do you. So you know,
- 41:23Speaker 1: just let me know if you need me, because I
- 41:25Speaker 1: will fight. But I'll be waiting to see, with breadth
- 41:30Speaker 1: that is baited, who else steps up to potentially lead
- 41:33Speaker 1: these folks. So the extent of the damage is such that,
- 41:44Speaker 1: like they don't have a lot to offer. The straw hats,
- 41:47Speaker 1: there's a tavern that they can sort of set up
- 41:49Speaker 1: shop in, and when they're asking about a doctor evidently
- 41:53Speaker 1: there are like none left. There's one that the right
- 42:00Speaker 1: woman calls a witch, and she lives at the top
- 42:05Speaker 1: of the tallest tower slash cliff you've ever seen. And
- 42:11Speaker 1: we're going to have to wait to go up there
- 42:13Speaker 1: until the next day because you will not reach there
- 42:16Speaker 1: by nightfall and it's way too dangerous, which, of course
- 42:20Speaker 1: we know that will not be happening. Lufy is in
- 42:24Speaker 1: like it's it's so it takes longer than I would
- 42:28Speaker 1: even expect for him to choose to climb. He gives
- 42:31Speaker 1: it more thought than I feel like Loufy ever has
- 42:34Speaker 1: to anything, and Nami is in really bad shape. It
- 42:40Speaker 1: grows increasingly clear we can't wait till tomorrow. It's not
- 42:44Speaker 1: good guys. So Loufy posits to Nami, what if I
- 42:53Speaker 1: climb and I carry you? And of course Vivi the
- 42:59Speaker 1: voice reason is just like, are you fucking high? But
- 43:04Speaker 1: Nami says, I'm counting on you. Captain Sanji insists on
- 43:12Speaker 1: going with the two of them, and Zora wants to
- 43:14Speaker 1: come to but is told they are going to need
- 43:18Speaker 1: you down here, so you better stay behind because we
- 43:21Speaker 1: have to have some kind of fighter with the rest
- 43:24Speaker 1: of our friends. So they create this makeshift sling for
- 43:30Speaker 1: Nam to sit in while Lufy climbs. And I remember
- 43:35Speaker 1: this being an issue for me in the anime, and
- 43:39Speaker 1: I was very gratified watching with my husband that he
- 43:42Speaker 1: asked the same question that I asked at the time.
- 43:47Speaker 1: I was like, why isn't Lufi using his gum gum powers.
- 43:52Speaker 1: He's just climbing this cliff face like a normal fucking chump.
- 43:57Speaker 1: He's got powers that would this way easier. Why isn't
- 44:03Speaker 1: he using them? And Marshall asked the exact same thing.
- 44:09Speaker 1: We go to the scene where he's slowly climbing and
- 44:12Speaker 1: Marshall's like, doesn't he have powers? And I'm like, yeah, yeah,
- 44:18Speaker 1: he does. And it wouldn't be so like egregious if
- 44:24Speaker 1: it weren't for the fact that when Sanji falls, Loofy
- 44:28Speaker 1: grabs him with his head and flings him up in Like,
- 44:36Speaker 1: I'm not trying to suggest that he could have done
- 44:37Speaker 1: this from the bottom and gotten Sonji all the way
- 44:40Speaker 1: to the top, you know, but it's just sort of
- 44:45Speaker 1: sort of like emphasizes that there are other ways that
- 44:48Speaker 1: this could have worked, and it distracts me both times.
- 44:54Speaker 1: In both versions, I just feel like I would. I
- 44:57Speaker 1: would want an explanation of some why the gumgum powers
- 45:01Speaker 1: aren't maybe as good in the cold or something. I
- 45:05Speaker 1: don't know. You know, Austin said he's afraid of jostling. Nam, Austin,
- 45:12Speaker 1: you spelled jostling in a way that's like an ikea
- 45:16Speaker 1: piece of furniture. I don't know, it's weird. Saraphim says
- 45:20Speaker 1: what Austin said, now Imun was doing so badly. They
- 45:22Speaker 1: were worried about the sort of shaking around that would
- 45:24Speaker 1: cause would kill her. Florian says, I honestly like it
- 45:28Speaker 1: better that he does not use it, just because it's cool.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Now here's the thing, Austin sarafm bullshit, So sorry, horseshit.
- 45:37Speaker 1: There is absolutely no reason using his powers would jostle
- 45:40Speaker 1: her anymore than climbing normally would jostle her. In fact,
- 45:43Speaker 1: I would argue rubber is an insulator to jostling. It
- 45:48Speaker 1: would probably give a smoother ride, if anything. So I'm
- 45:52Speaker 1: not buying it. I'm just not buying it. It's just
- 45:55Speaker 1: that we don't want him using his powers because we
- 45:58Speaker 1: need this to be a sacrifice for him. So Florian saying,
- 46:01Speaker 1: I like it better that he doesn't because it's cool.
- 46:04Speaker 1: That's more honest to me, it's because it has to
- 46:07Speaker 1: be a trial we have to put Lufy through something.
- 46:11Speaker 1: I completely respect that's a thing, but I would like
- 46:15Speaker 1: the thing we have to put him through that maybe
- 46:18Speaker 1: he tries to use his power and it maybe isn't
- 46:20Speaker 1: as effective for some reason or something, you know what
- 46:22Speaker 1: I mean, Like have there be a a within the story,
- 46:28Speaker 1: something narratively that explains why doing it this way wouldn't work,
- 46:34Speaker 1: and illustrate that to me in a believable way, because
- 46:39Speaker 1: just saying it jostles her is there is no reason
- 46:44Speaker 1: why stretching his arm out and extra twelve feet to
- 46:47Speaker 1: pull himself up is going to jostle her anymore than
- 46:50Speaker 1: stretching his arm out normally to pull himself up with
- 46:53Speaker 1: jostle her. It just doesn't make sense. So the fact
- 46:57Speaker 1: that I had this reaction in watching the anime and
- 46:59Speaker 1: the Marshall had dis reaction in watching the live action,
- 47:02Speaker 1: I maintain that idea doesn't hold water and is distracting.
- 47:07Speaker 1: It's not well done. This is one of the things
- 47:09Speaker 1: that I think is quite true to the anime that
- 47:14Speaker 1: I feel like maybe they should have changed up more.
- 47:18Speaker 1: It's one of those that's just like, I understand narratively
- 47:22Speaker 1: why we're doing it this way, but all of the
- 47:25Speaker 1: rationalizations come that people come up with about, well, here's
- 47:29Speaker 1: why it wouldn't feasibly work. It's just fan wanking to
- 47:33Speaker 1: make a thing narratively makes sense in world, and it
- 47:38Speaker 1: doesn't hold any water to me. Is Sarah, I'm saying
- 47:42Speaker 1: it would be essentially shooting her at a slingshot. Nobody
- 47:44Speaker 1: is talking about shooting her out a slingshot. I'm talking
- 47:48Speaker 1: about Louviy just using his stretchy powers to pull himself
- 47:53Speaker 1: up twelve feet at a time instead of two feet
- 47:56Speaker 1: at a time. You know, it's just weird. It's just
- 48:01Speaker 1: weird that it's the same thing guys as when in
- 48:06Speaker 1: early in the anime, early on, and I feel like
- 48:09Speaker 1: in live action, but it went different. Lufy's hat flies
- 48:14Speaker 1: off his head and I don't remember if it's the
- 48:17Speaker 1: wind that does it, or if it's a bird that
- 48:19Speaker 1: grabs it or something, and we have him just running
- 48:22Speaker 1: around the ship to try and grab it back instead
- 48:25Speaker 1: of simply stretching out a stretchy arm and grabbing it
- 48:28Speaker 1: out of the air. As he would anything else, But
- 48:33Speaker 1: we can't have him just do it that easy, because
- 48:36Speaker 1: we need to show his desperation and how upset he
- 48:38Speaker 1: is that his hat is flying away because the hat
- 48:40Speaker 1: means something to him. But really, it doesn't make sense
- 48:45Speaker 1: that he wouldn't use his stretchy power, which is so
- 48:47Speaker 1: immediately available, to grab something that's super important to him.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Then he would use what he has available, a tool
- 48:55Speaker 1: that he uses often, you know. So it's just like
- 49:02Speaker 1: a It's a story telling beat that I understand, but
- 49:10Speaker 1: I think there is a way to illustrate to the viewer.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Why wouldn't he do this or change it up somehow
- 49:22Speaker 1: to not have it be actively distracting as you're watching
- 49:27Speaker 1: it going. But I know that he has like ways
- 49:31Speaker 1: of managing this, you know. So anyway, in the end,
- 49:38Speaker 1: like I said, he grabs Snjy with his head, flings
- 49:41Speaker 1: him up with his teeth, and then finally pulls himself
- 49:45Speaker 1: up to the top, and Sonji is unconscious when he
- 49:50Speaker 1: comes up over the edge, and Lufy stays conscious just
- 49:54Speaker 1: long enough to tell a mysterious furry footed figure please
- 50:00Speaker 1: help my friends and or please save I think is
- 50:05Speaker 1: the is the wording, and he passes out. I'm gonna
- 50:10Speaker 1: jump down real quick to just touch on the sea
- 50:13Speaker 1: that I had mentioned earlier with Vivi and Oosop and Zorro,
- 50:17Speaker 1: because Oosop is busy like constructing a bunch of little bullets.
- 50:25Speaker 1: I don't know what the word is, but you know,
- 50:27Speaker 1: for his slingshot gadget, and Zoro is just sort of
- 50:34Speaker 1: pacing around talking about how they'll never get up there
- 50:37Speaker 1: in time, what is going on with Nami or we
- 50:40Speaker 1: won't be able to see, you know. He's kind of
- 50:42Speaker 1: doom and glooming, and Sanji is focusing on building his
- 50:49Speaker 1: thing and saying, we just have to believe that they're
- 50:54Speaker 1: gonna make it, which is really like it sounds corny
- 50:57Speaker 1: to be like we just have to believe, but honestly,
- 50:58Speaker 1: at this moment, that is to really all you can do.
- 51:02Speaker 1: And Zoro tries to press the issue and is like,
- 51:05Speaker 1: are you not even hearing me? And finally Usup kind
- 51:09Speaker 1: of snaps at him and is like, Zoro, you need
- 51:11Speaker 1: to find something to do. You're standing here over me
- 51:15Speaker 1: just talking shit. I can't tell you any more than
- 51:20Speaker 1: you know you are not helping. Go find something to do,
- 51:27Speaker 1: and Zorro puts down his bottle next to usop and says,
- 51:32Speaker 1: you could have asked nicely. I think he did ask nicely.
- 51:38Speaker 1: To be honest, Zorro, and I would love for anybody
- 51:44Speaker 1: later on, when asked by Zoro to do anything to
- 51:50Speaker 1: respond with you could have asked nicely, because Zorro doesn't
- 51:53Speaker 1: ask anything nicely. Ever, if that wasn't nice, then Zorro,
- 51:58Speaker 1: I have news for you. It's a very dish it
- 52:02Speaker 1: out but can't take it kind of quality. So I
- 52:07Speaker 1: was sort of proud of us up for this actually,
- 52:10Speaker 1: cause it's true. I have look. I know that I am.
- 52:17Speaker 1: I am a person who is like pathologically optimistic, and
- 52:21Speaker 1: I know that about myself to a degree. I can
- 52:25Speaker 1: understand that not everybody can muster that, and I can
- 52:29Speaker 1: understand that maybe it can be irritating. Even so I
- 52:32Speaker 1: do try when I'm around people who have a more
- 52:35Speaker 1: negative outlook to just sort of keep my mouth shut
- 52:39Speaker 1: because I don't need to hear them contradict everything I say.
- 52:45Speaker 1: I don't, you know, like, but one thing I won't
- 52:50Speaker 1: do is just let you continue pouring negativity out. If
- 52:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep myself quiet, you better do the same
- 52:58Speaker 1: fucking thing, you know, so I have definitely said the
- 53:04Speaker 1: equivalent of this to people of just like, if you
- 53:08Speaker 1: don't have anything productive to add, just sit on your hands,
- 53:13Speaker 1: go sit in the corner and shut up, because otherwise
- 53:18Speaker 1: you're not helping. I don't know what it is you
- 53:20Speaker 1: think you're accomplishing here other than spreading misery and fear,
- 53:25Speaker 1: but shut up. So anyway, that's what leads to Zorra
- 53:30Speaker 1: having the conversation outside with Dalton that he has, and
- 53:35Speaker 1: then we have the brief exchange between Oosap and Viv
- 53:40Speaker 1: where it becomes really clear part of what has shaken
- 53:44Speaker 1: Viv so much about coming here is seeing that drum
- 53:49Speaker 1: kingdom is like, you know, they had been so prosperous,
- 53:53Speaker 1: they had had everything, and solely due to having a
- 53:58Speaker 1: ruler who did not look out for them, they have
- 54:01Speaker 1: nothing now and they are just desolated. And obviously it's
- 54:06Speaker 1: just her panicking about what state is my kingdom going
- 54:11Speaker 1: to be in once I return. I've been gone for
- 54:14Speaker 1: such a long time. I don't know what's happening. And
- 54:18Speaker 1: this is all very valid, and it makes sense that
- 54:21Speaker 1: she would just be looking around, going Jesus fucking Christ,
- 54:25Speaker 1: you know, so now we're going to go back to
- 54:29Speaker 1: the main event. Nowmi wakes up. She's on an ivy
- 54:34Speaker 1: drip of some medicine. Her arm doesn't have the black
- 54:37Speaker 1: lines anymore. There's a roaring fire. She's tucked under a blanket.
- 54:41Speaker 1: She looks over and sees Sanjy in another bed and
- 54:43Speaker 1: he's all tucked in and bandaged up. And then here
- 54:48Speaker 1: comes Chopper. You guys, I'm so excited. He is so cute.
- 54:54Speaker 1: I saw a little clip of I don't even remember
- 54:58Speaker 1: if it was just like Chopper, like say high or
- 55:01Speaker 1: what like it's it was just something circulating on the socials,
- 55:05Speaker 1: and at the time I was sort of eh on
- 55:09Speaker 1: the design and the voice. I remember just being like,
- 55:12Speaker 1: I guess well, and I don't know if it wasn't
- 55:16Speaker 1: fully finished when that was released. I don't know, because
- 55:21Speaker 1: like part of me wonders about marketing. There was a
- 55:24Speaker 1: whole thing, if y'all will remember about Sonic the Hedgehog
- 55:26Speaker 1: when they did those movies, and they released a trailer
- 55:30Speaker 1: that had Sonic with these like weird human teeth that
- 55:34Speaker 1: were like, he just looked crazy, and the studio took
- 55:40Speaker 1: the feedback of the reaction of fans to that trailer
- 55:43Speaker 1: and completely redesigned Sonic to look different, and I was like,
- 55:47Speaker 1: I wonder if this is just being put out there
- 55:49Speaker 1: so that they can get the like take the temperature
- 55:52Speaker 1: of the audience and see what people are thinking, or
- 55:55Speaker 1: I honestly don't recall how much it changed from that
- 55:58Speaker 1: preview to what why up in the show? Sorry, Saraphim
- 56:04Speaker 1: just says, ah, we do not speak of ugly Sonic. Yeah,
- 56:08Speaker 1: it was real bad, guys, it was really bad. This
- 56:11Speaker 1: was one of those things where just like sometimes I
- 56:14Speaker 1: think studios will will cater too much to fans and
- 56:18Speaker 1: you know, we don't need to listen to them about everything,
- 56:20Speaker 1: and then there are things like this where I'm like,
- 56:22Speaker 1: y'all are lucky you made a good decision there, because
- 56:26Speaker 1: that was not gonna work out. Austin says the reaction was, ah,
- 56:32Speaker 1: kill it with fire exactly. But yeah, Chopper is so adorable.
- 56:39Speaker 1: The voice is just right in my opinion, where it's
- 56:42Speaker 1: like it's a little bit babyish, but not in an
- 56:46Speaker 1: annoying way. The only thing that I feel like could
- 56:51Speaker 1: have made it better would be if Chopper were more
- 56:55Speaker 1: like a puppet, unless just animation, and it's possible that
- 57:02Speaker 1: they might do more like with a puppet version of
- 57:05Speaker 1: him later. I don't know. Uh. There's also like the
- 57:10Speaker 1: fact that when Lufy sees him, he has transformed, like
- 57:14Speaker 1: it's hard for us to see, but if you know,
- 57:16Speaker 1: you know where he looks up the length of Chopper,
- 57:20Speaker 1: and Chopper doesn't have hooves at that point, he has
- 57:22Speaker 1: regular feet and we can see how much taller he
- 57:26Speaker 1: is and that he has, you know, like the big
- 57:29Speaker 1: dorito chest kind of thing going on. So here, this
- 57:36Speaker 1: little baby Chopper sort of understandable why Lufy is not
- 57:39Speaker 1: connecting the dots. But Nammy tries to talk to Chopper,
- 57:47Speaker 1: who kind of freaks out about her attempts to hide
- 57:50Speaker 1: the wrong direction, and Nammy is so like entertained by this.
- 57:55Speaker 1: It's just like, do you think you're hiding? And then
- 58:00Speaker 1: are you the one that saved me? And then we
- 58:02Speaker 1: get the guitar riff and the laugh and here comes
- 58:07Speaker 1: Kure otherwise known as doctor Rene. I really thought that
- 58:19Speaker 1: this was going to be Jamie Lee Curtis, guys. I
- 58:24Speaker 1: don't know why. Where in my head I had it
- 58:28Speaker 1: lodged that she had actually been signed on to this role.
- 58:32Speaker 1: But somewhere along the way I could have sworn that
- 58:38Speaker 1: it was officially announced that she was going to be
- 58:41Speaker 1: playing this role. I thought for sure, I knew she
- 58:46Speaker 1: had gotten into the show for the sake of one
- 58:48Speaker 1: of her kids, and that she was like, I would
- 58:52Speaker 1: love to play the role. Like I knew all of
- 58:53Speaker 1: that was just her engaging with it as an idea,
- 58:59Speaker 1: but I thought it had been settled. And I don't
- 59:02Speaker 1: know where I got that from. So anyway, it turns
- 59:08Speaker 1: out that it is. And I hate that this is
- 59:11Speaker 1: the way that I'm It's peg Bundy, and I know
- 59:16Speaker 1: she has been in so many more things, and she
- 59:17Speaker 1: has so much right to be mad that I can't
- 59:20Speaker 1: remember her name, but I never can. I'm so sorry.
- 59:23Speaker 1: She's great in this role. She looks fantastic in this
- 59:28Speaker 1: whole aesthetic, but I it was just so jarring because
- 59:32Speaker 1: I was so sure and then she steps out and
- 59:35Speaker 1: I was like what And it's fine, It's totally fine.
- 59:40Speaker 1: But it was just a moment of me being like, wow,
- 59:43Speaker 1: I have got the casting like all mixed up in
- 59:45Speaker 1: my head, you know, because I had also thought that
- 59:48Speaker 1: fucking what's his face played Smoker and that was the
- 59:51Speaker 1: wrong guy, like all over the place, Saraphim says she
- 59:56Speaker 1: was fully on board for it, but they couldn't make
- 59:58Speaker 1: the scheduling work. Ah, gotcha, because yeah, she's still out
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: here working a lot. So anyway, we have her walking
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Chopper through continuing to diagnose Nammy and you know what,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: further does she need more antibiotics, more bed rest, YadA YadA.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: We find out. Nommy tries to say, oh, I'm fine
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: and is about to leave, and Korea holds a knife
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: to her throat and is like, you're gonna leave once
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: you're fully recovered or once you're dad, that's it. Sit down.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Sanji had some broken ribs, and then just as Nammy
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: is asking well what about Loofy, we hear Lufy's scream
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: and he comes running in, glistening like a basted turkey,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: wrapped in a towel, talking about how he's being boiled
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: alive by a witch who's gonna eat him, and that
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: he was kill carried inside by a huge furry beast,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: which as he says that, the camera cuts to Chopper,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: who like hunches and looks hurt, and I was just like,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: how dare you, Loofy? How dare you hurt? My baby's
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: feelings take it back, and then Correyad has to explain
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: you were hypothermic. I put you in that bath so
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: that you wouldn't lose a limb to a frost bite.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: And he begins to settle down, and then we have
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Chopper hurrying past Lufy to leave the room, and Lufy
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: turning and looking at him and getting the expression on
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: your face that you get when somebody unexpectedly reaches into
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: their purse and pulls out a kitten and a baby
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: bottle and tells you it's time for us to feed
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: the kitten. It's like that kind of expression where something
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: is so cute that you feel like you just want
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: to put it in your mouth, Like it's so cute
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: that you can't quite fully take it, and you just
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: like you're like, oh my god, and they're they're holding
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: out the kitten and the little bottle, and you're just like,
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: oh my god, it's happening. It's happening. That's the whole
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: vibe for me of this moment. It's the best, and
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: I love that it's like, what are you? The camera
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: just stays on him and he like kind of wriggles
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: in place and puts his hands on his face and
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: just like and then again, what are you? What is that?
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: It's very very fun, great ending. I remember, if I'm
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: not mistaken, in the anime, I feel like Nami reacts
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: with more fear to Chopper, and if I'm not mistaken,
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: I feel like Chopper and Lufy actually fight in the anime.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I just feel like there was more aggression toward Chopper
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: in the anime, and I remember at the time feeling
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: kind of like this is just weird. And of course
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: there's like a lot of problematic elements regarding how Chopper
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: has been treated and raised by various people, which I
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: am sure the show is going to be pulling back
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: on quite a bit because ideas have changed. But you know,
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: it's it feels like we're pretty much jumping to what
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: an adorable little creature for everybody? And I really that's
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: that's what I want fully, So yes, good and I
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: cannot wait to see more of Chopper next episode. I
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: like all of this is very I wanna get like
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: a Chopper hat to wear, but my head is so
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: big that I don't think I could find something that
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: would actually fit. I think I need to make it myself.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Seraphim says not so much aggression as misunderstanding about Lufy
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: at all. Saying Chopper is a monster isn't an insult
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: to them. Okay, so they call him a monster and
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: and it starts a fight, Okay, gotcha? Uh yeah, I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: just I I wouldn't mind like completely sidestepping all of that.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: That's fine, totally cool. All right, I'm overtime, so I
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: gotta wrap up, but very excited to watch the next one.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: I know that my husband is going to be really
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: glad that we get a uh to watch another one today.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Every time every day he's like, can you watch another
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: one yet? Did you record yet? So uh. He was
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: really irritated when a couple of weeks ago I had
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: taken a day off and I was like, oh, yeah, no,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: we have to wait till Thursday, and he was like,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: come on. So I'm glad to see that he is
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: enjoying it. Also, thank you all so much for coming
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: for commissioning these. I am enjoying the hell out of it.
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: Oh and also, there's like a promo thing for one
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: piece at Popeyes right now. I posted it in the discord.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I love Popeyes so much, it's so good. I am
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: absolutely going to be getting this promo item by the way,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: like a hundred percent. I'll probably just do like a
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: quick TikTok or something about it. But definitely there's like
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: a gumgum lemonade, a chopper cupcake. I mean there, it's
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: going to be like garbage, nothing food. But that's fine.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: I love a gimmick, give it to me. So I
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: watched Meghan the Stallion got a fucking actual treasure chest
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: with one piece and Popeye's logo on the outside, and
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: then an actual one piece bento box, like a wooden
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: and plastic bento box with the chicken inside, and I
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: was just like, well, why don't I get that? Because
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: you're not making a stallion, Natasha. That's why. All right, guys,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: I will see you what's today Tuesday? I will see
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: you Thursday. Until then, to the loo, motherfuckers. That was
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: an Unspoiled Network podcast.
