2:42
change in the programming at the top of the show originally and if you go
2:46
on social media, no, I do a little preview of the show.
2:50
I already had that set up. Debbie Dewisz, who's a candidate for House
2:53
as a republic in a district nineteen which covers in Putnam County. She was
2:57
scheduled to be on the show today. Debbie's feeling pretty under the weather.
3:00
I actually talked to her yesterday about the appearance today and she said that she
3:05
didn't know whether she'd be able to be in studio or not. And I
3:07
told her, I said, well, look, if you need to call
3:08
in, that's fine. And then this morning got word from her that she's
3:13
really sick as far as like fever, and that's kind of thing. So
3:15
we certainly hope that that she feels better soon. Get well soon, missus,
3:20
Debbie, and we'll try try being the keyword to get you on again
3:24
between now an election day. It could be difficult because you know, if
3:30
you've been listening to how the schedule is, I mean every pretty much every
3:32
slot between now and the time the polls close on Tuesday night has been taken.
3:37
But I will try my best to get Debbie Dewee's House candidate Republican and
3:40
District nineteen rescheduled for an appearance on the show. If not, I apologize,
3:45
But she got plenty of information out there. You can check her out
3:47
online again, and we do. The bottom line is, though regardless of
3:52
politics, we do hope that Debbie is feeling better, but we will do.
3:55
We do have Chris Print, we do have Sarah Drennan, and we
3:58
also have Chad Smart coming up on the show as well. It gives me
4:02
time to talk about a couple of items in the news. After after forty
4:06
three years, Park Place Cinemas is no more, the owners making that announcement
4:14
on social media yesterday. So sorry, Ryan, no more all you can
4:17
eat popcorn or all you can drink sodas. He's not doing well. My
4:25
producers not this morning. But with all due respect, I'll be honest,
4:30
I'm surprised that it lasted as long as it as long as it did,
4:33
and that's not a reflection on the owner's by any stretching the imagination. It
4:38
all comes down to economics in the theater business. And I have a very
4:43
very good friend that owns several theaters in southern West Virginia and it's very difficult
4:49
the last couple of years, you know, from COVID to just not being
4:56
able to keep up with all the renovations that it require to stay competitive.
5:00
Plus you know, the movie industry itself has changed. I mean, there's
5:04
so many things that go directly to streaming services. Now it's just not the
5:09
same business that it used to be. And the theater has been in the
5:15
same family, the Hymend family, for sixty five years. The good news
5:19
is, though, if there's any good news in all this, it may
5:21
not be dead forever. There is some talk that some new folks could could,
5:29
being the keyword, take it over, which would be which would be
5:31
great if that happens. And a lot of theaters around America have kind of
5:35
repurposed themselves instead of going from first run theaters that have to charge whatever movie
5:43
tickets are. You tell how often I go to the movies, but fifteen
5:45
twenty you know, dollars whatever, and you know it's quite expensive. Many
5:49
are repurposing themselves to do other types of performances, such as you know,
5:56
cult classics. You know, this past week and the whole country was crazy
5:59
or over Star Wars because May the fourth, and I was all hands of
6:01
festivals and things in this area. There's been movie theaters that have done that
6:06
sort of thing, you know, doing the fiftieth anniversary of this movie or
6:11
seventy fifth of that movie or whatever. So so maybe somebody could take it
6:15
over and put the needed money into it to be able to make a go
6:20
of it. Who knows, because it would be great. Now. The
6:24
Good One administration out with the statement basically saying pretty much what I just said.
6:31
And I'll say this, I think that if someone does take it over,
6:35
business will will pick up. And reason is the Capital Sports Center.
6:43
I mean, you have a competition at eight o'clock on Thursday morning. You're
6:47
a family, bring a kid in for competition eight o'clock on Thursday night,
6:51
my morning, let's say Thursday night. You don't have anything for the family
6:55
to do until they play again at at ten am Saturday morning. So so
6:59
what do you gonna do? You're gonna be looking for something to do,
7:01
and whether that's going to the movies or whatever, it could be a good
7:05
investment for someone who has the money to put into it. It was another
7:12
hit to Charleston though, with chop House, Tide, water Bridge Road Bistro,
7:20
the Cinema. Uh And there continues to be rumors out there that Starbucks
7:27
at the Town Center will will be closing. I haven't heard any deafendone on
7:30
that, but that seems to be a hot rumor out there. But I'm
7:34
gonna say this. This is a davitorium despite what the critics say, and
7:42
at times I have been one of those critics. Zero with these announcements and
7:49
the hand ringing that's going on over downtown. Zero this can be blamed on
7:53
the Goodwin administration. Sorry, amy haters, this ain't it. I am
8:01
convinced that the business model of the whole group, the owners of the town
8:07
Center, is to eliminate as many businesses as possible from said town Center.
8:13
I don't completely understand it, but if you do some research on the other
8:18
properties that they own across the country, that's pretty much been their business plan.
8:24
For some reason, management on behalf of the whole group is the reason
8:28
for the closures of Tidewater and chop House. And if Starbucks does close,
8:35
which again rumored, and I'm not I'm not breaking any ground here. I
8:41
mean this is all over social media. By the way, I don't want
8:43
to be accused of that. This has been all over social social media.
8:46
If it closes, and it's going to be squarely on this group that owns
8:48
them all. Now you know, obviously Bridge Road was a completely different story.
8:54
That was a decision by the owners and under Sandy call said on this
8:58
very show last week that it was solely on them and it was a conscious
9:03
decision that they were making the cinema pretty much the same thing. And by
9:09
the way, thanks to my good friend, tip to him, Tony the
9:13
Taylor. The city of Cincinnati is also losing theaters. The city of Cincinnati
9:20
has lost three downtown theaters in five months. So let's blame may or a
9:26
good one for that too, you know. But if you need some good
9:30
news on your Wednesday, Stella's on Haile Street, the Old Blossom Dairy Company

14:54
Chris Pritt joins us. Now, how are you, sir? I'm doing
14:56
great, very busy. It's a very busy time of the year, especially
15:00
when you're running for office, but it's a lot of fun. Talk about
15:03
the campaign. How's it been, Oh, it's been great. We've been
15:05
hitting lots and lots of doors. Me and my team and volunteers, We've
15:09
hit thousands and thousands of doors. We've gotten a great response, and I
15:13
think our message is resonating with the people out there. And what is that
15:16
message group? The message is this, when it comes to the West Virginia
15:22
Legislature, we need to move in a more conservative direction. That was the
15:24
primary reason that I started my campaign to run for the state Senate, is
15:30
that I thought that the legislature, in particular the West Virginia State Senate,
15:33
routinely undermines conservative values, routinely waters down bills, and these are amendments that
15:43
are oftentimes inconsistent with what the people want. I mean, West Virginia is
15:48
one of the most, if not the most conservative state in the entire country,
15:52
and I think the laws that we pass in the West Virginia Legislature should
15:56
reflect that. You say water down. Give an exactample of one of those,
16:00
well, one of those for example, I'll use this as an example.
16:03
We had a bill that banned kids from getting any kind of procedures when
16:08
it comes to transitioning supposedly from being a boy to a girl, and a
16:11
girl to a boy, and so forth. It's been on the news.
16:15
It's a hot topic, as you've seen out on the campaign trail. But
16:18
it's an important topic, and I'll just use that as an example. The
16:22
House passed a bill that I supported, got rid of all procedures, okay,
16:27
any kind of procedures to have a boy transition to a girl, a
16:30
girl transition to a boy. Supposedly, obviously you can't change sex and or
16:37
gender or anything like that. But that's what the bill did, and I
16:40
think it was a very very solid bill. When that bill got over to
16:42
the West Virginia Senate, they changed it, Dave. They changed it to
16:47
allow kids to get puberty blockers and these hormones that I think are devastating to
16:52
these young people. And we're not talking about adults. We're not talking about
16:56
trying to change what an adult does, consenting adult who's over let's say,
17:00
over the age of twenty one. We're talking about kids. And the Senate
17:03
changed that bill, and one of the things that was in that bill is
17:07
to allow these these hormones and puberity blockers to be allowed, which I think
17:11
is unacceptable. That was one of the primary reasons I decided to run Eric
17:15
Nelson my opponent voted it in support of that amendment, and I think that
17:19
was something that is not consistent with the West Virginia values that the people expect
17:25
in the legislature. Talking with Dell A Good Chris Pratt, who was a
17:26
candidate down for State Senate, Chris, you've served in the House, considered
17:30
running for Secretary of State at one time, and now you have decided to
17:33
run for the state the state Senate. You explained a little bit of one
17:40
of the reasons why you wanted to make the run from one house, from
17:42
the House to the to the Senate. Are there any any other particulars that
17:47
because I know a lot had to go into that decision. That's a big
17:48
decision to make. I mean people people have not been around the capitol may
17:52
think, well, it's the legislature. There's a big difference between the two.
17:56
There absolutely is. I mean, certainly, when you're in the legislature,
18:00
and in particular the West Virginia Senate, you can have a lot more
18:02
influence. You're representing a lot more people. I think over in the state
18:04
Senate, I think that things are able to get on the agenda a little
18:11
bit easier. I mean, we're talking about thirty four people versus one hundred
18:14
people, and so based on the lesser number of people, I think it
18:18
is a little bit easier to get things done and accomplished. And I think
18:22
that's one of the reasons why I made that move is I thought that in
18:26
addition to the Senate not being as conservative as the House and wanting to move
18:32
the Senate in a more conservative direction, I think also just having the ability
18:36
to have more of an impact on legislation. You have stated that you think
18:42
and this is not arguing on my part, it's just you stated that you
18:45
think that you'd like to see the legislature be more conservative than it already is.
18:51
Yes, there are those, as you mentioned, that would say it's
18:53
conservative enough, but it's still not enough for you, is what you're saying.
18:56
Right, I think that's the case. I think that the will of
19:00
the people in West Virginia needs to be reflected in our legislation. Like for
19:04
example, let's take the issue of the bill that was put forth to stop
19:10
boys from competing in girls sports. Forty four percent of the state Senate,
19:14
including five Republican state senators, including my opponent, voted against that important legislation.
19:18
I mean, we've got people in the legislature sitting there right now,
19:22
Republicans who, including my opponent, who have voted for tax increases. Back
19:27
in the twenty seventeen time range, we had a bill that came up that
19:32
increased the gas tax. To me, that's unacceptable. There's no reason why
19:36
we should ever be voting for tax increases. And at some point in time,
19:40
Dave, it could be in one two years down the road, we
19:44
are not going to be having the budget surpluses that we have right now.
19:47
I mean, with these budget surpluses that we have are historic and they're a
19:51
good thing, but those don't last forever. And at some point we're going
19:55
to be in a budget crunch and we need people down there that are going
19:59
to say no, under no circumstances, am I going to support a tax
20:03
increase. To me, that's one of those fundamental basic things about being a
20:07
conservative Republican is opposing all tax increases. That's what voters can account on when
20:11
it comes to me. Chris Prett is here. He's a candidate for state
20:15
Senate, currently serving in the House. Wants to be a state senator.

20:48
time, give us the bio on Chris Print. Sure thing. Well,
20:52
my wife and I have a small law practice here in Charleston. We do
20:55
a lot of estate planning, We do some family court, we do some
20:57
real estate work. We have been an operation for over seventeen years. We
21:02
have two kids. My oldest boy, Jackson, is thirteen, and my
21:06
youngest, Owen is six, and we're right here in the Kanaal Valley.
21:11
We've been involved in our community. We've been involved in our church. We've
21:15
been attempting to just raise two good kids that are have the Christian values that
21:22
we grew up with. And yeah, that's what we're doing right now.
21:26
And we're just two regular people out there trying to make a difference. Talk
21:32
about the district. What areas does the district cover? Okay, the district
21:37
covers over by essentially a Sissonville area, the Elkview area north of the river
21:44
in eastern Kanaw County, Kanah City, South Hills, South Charleston, and
21:48
Saint Albans, and then some of the more rural areas a little bit south
21:52
of those areas. So it is a very diverse district as far as I
21:56
mean, we don't think in West Virginia. We don't think of things being
22:00
because the whole state is rural. But I mean, relatively speaking by West
22:03
Virginia standards, you've got some different area because you said you've got some more
22:07
rural areas, but you've got some more urban type areas as well. That's
22:11
right. Absolutely, it is a very diverse area compared to other parts parts
22:15
of the state. I think that's a good thing. But I think the
22:17
people of the district are very much similar to the rest of the state when
22:21
it comes to conservative values and the values that I think all West Virginians hold.
22:26
Dear, what do you see as the biggest needs of the district.
22:30
We talked about the diversification as far I mean with the diversity as far as
22:34
how it's kind of different with some of the things Saint Albans are facing may
22:38
not be the same as what Elkview is facing. But what do you see
22:41
is the biggest needs? I think more economic development and more economic growth.
22:45
I mean, one of the things that we've seen in recent years, Dave,
22:48
is a population lost in Kanaal County. We've got to put a stop
22:52
to that. I mean, many of the folks that have been involved in
22:56
politics for a number of years, they have been running things while that has
23:02
happened, and I think that's something that we have to change. We have
23:06
to get back to economic development, and I think we need more bold action
23:10
when it comes to the legislature. I think we need to be more aggressive
23:11
when it comes to getting rid of the state income tax. I mean,
23:15
I think we can do some things that are bold that can move the Kanaal
23:21
Valley forward. And we need to be focusing on how to maximize economic development
23:26
for the Kanaal Valley, and I think we do that through tax cuts.
23:30
I think we do that through more job training and emphasis on community colleges,
23:34
having a relationship between our community college system and our college system and the businesses
23:41
that are out there. Because look, there's been a lot of emphasis on
23:44
bringing new jobs into the state, and I think that's great. But at
23:48
the same time, while we also see a lot of new jobs coming in,
23:52
we see places like our businesses like Alleghany wood products that are going out
23:57
of business or other businesses that are leaving the state, and so and I
24:02
think it's great that we focus on bringing new jobs in, but look,
24:04
we have a great resource here. We have existing businesses that compete globally right
24:10
here in the Kanal Valley doing the things we need to do to help them
24:12
compete and help them grow. I mean, I think it's it's a win
24:15
win for the people here in the Kanaal Valley, and I think it's a
24:19
win win for the state as a whole. You talked about your campaign a
24:23
little bit, and so let's let's kind of focus on that. What's your
24:27
campaign style? Are you are are you going door to door are you sign
24:30
wave in? And and what what? What is your style? We do
24:34
a lot of door to door. I like contacting bods. What are you
24:37
say when you go knock on somebody's door? All right, and they come
24:41
to the door, uh huh? And I would ask them what they're cooking?
24:44
But that's just me. But but they come to the door, what
24:47
do you What do you say to them? And what more importantly, Chris,
24:51
what do they say to you? Well, one of the things that
24:53
I do when I come to the door is I certainly introduced myself. How
24:56
I say hello, my name is Chris Pritt. I'm running for the West
25:00
Virginia State Senate and and I try to get an idea as to what issues
25:04
are important to them. I think that's very very important for elected individuals to
25:08
have a feel for what the needs are in the community. I ask them
25:14
what issues are important to you? And I started that off and a lot
25:18
of times they'll they'll give me an earful about what issues are important to them.
25:22
They will talk about the needs and their community, the needs for their
25:26
family, problems that they see. And I think it's important that we talk
25:30
to people about that. And I just open it for them to discuss with
25:33
me what they see as the main issues. Now. A lot of times
25:37
people are Last night I was talking to I showed up to a few doors
25:41
and it was around dinner time, and they said, well, I don't
25:42
have time to talk and you know, I'm cooking dinner, and but it
25:47
was nice to meet you and I and I just let them be and I
25:49
and one of the things I do is I always leave my cell phone with
25:52
every single one of them. It's my personal cell phone. It's the same
25:56
for cell phone that I use for business. It's same. It's the same
25:59
selfe that I have that my friends and family have. I leave that with
26:03
them as and I tell them, if you have any questions or if you
26:07
have any ideas for moving West Virginia forward, please call or text me.
26:11
Even texting is fine. And I just talk to them in that way and
26:17
make sure that they know that I'm an open person, that I'm open to
26:21
hear their ideas. I'm not sitting on some pedestal somewhere, you know,
26:25
just keeping myself distant from the people. I want to be right there and
26:30
I want to be interacting with the folks out there to get ideas for moving
26:33
West Virginia forward, because a lot of good ideas that I've come about just
26:37
come from regular, everyday people. I mean the people you talk to on
26:41
the street. Lots of good ideas out there for moving West Virginia forward.
26:44
And we have a reservoir of good ideas out there from the people, from
26:48
the people here in our communities. Chris Preda's well us remember the House of

Chris? My website is www dot chrisprint dot com. All right, and
27:21
I'm gonna give you the final thirty seconds that interrupted from me. Why should
27:23
someone vote for Chris Print for State Senate? We need to move the legislature
27:29
in a more conservative direction. Our state has elected Donald voted for Donald Trump
27:36
at a greater percentage than just about any other place in the entire country.
27:40
Regardless of what everybody thinks about Donald Trump, he is going to be the
27:42
Republican nominee, and he's a person who, uh went, to a great
27:48
extent, reflects the values of the people in West Virginia. If you move
27:52
the needle forward in terms of conservative values, that's how we're going to move
27:56
the state forward. That's how we're going to move West Virginia forward. Is
27:59
going in a more conservative direction. I think that we need to deal with
28:03
the population loss that we've seen in recent years. The way we do that
28:06
is with conservative values. That's how we're going to do it. That's how
28:08
we're going to move our stateforward. Chris Print, Republican candidate, current Member
28:12
of the House of Delegates, Republican candidate for state state Senate in District seventeen.

31:23
when we have our candidates on look, you know, I know there's a
31:27
reason why when I have candidates on. I don't normally take phone calls,
31:30
and the reason for that is because it just turns into a gotcha type thing.
31:34
And sometimes it's that way with the text to appreciate input, but you
31:38
know, I can't read them all, and they are anytime I have a
31:44
candidate on, most of the text I get about that candidate are negative and
31:48
usually it's from the other side. And you know that's that's not what this
31:51
shows for this show when it comes to the candidates. Is I'm talking about
31:55
now Once they're in office, it's a different story, you know. But
31:56
once they're candidates, we're trying to give everybody and fair of footing here Texas
32:01
Haha, more conservatives than a super majority that exists more conservatives, text says,
32:07
you would think the most present issue in West Virginia is whether a very
32:10
small, almost microscopic portion of young people for taking the means to identify as
32:16
a sex not born as one of the main things that will make the difference
32:21
get on an issue that matters, says Texter. Texas says conservative Republicans preach
32:25
about families, family knows best in individual liberty until it comes to something they
32:30
don't agree with. Then they use the government to impose their religious beliefs limiting
32:34
or eliminating choices individuals and that the families had, says Texas Texas, Chris

Pritt is the best person for the state position. He's one of the most
32:43
hard working and dedicated legislators we currently have and works tirelessly for his constituency.
32:47
Even came out to Campbell's Creek after the devastating flooding two summers ago to help
32:52

32:57
Drennon, is a Republican running for House District twenty. Right, she is
33:00
joining us now, sire our good morning, welcome to the show. Good
33:01
morning, Dave, thanks for having me. I have to have you scooting
33:04
that microphone just a little bit. You don't have that big, bombastic voice
33:07
like Chris Prett had. No all right, so too with Sarah Drennam.
33:12
Give me your bio, tell me about you. So essentially, my name
33:14
is sarahdren and I'm running for the House of Delegates for the twentieth district,
33:16
which is in Putnam County. So we have essentially wind filled proper into some
33:22
of Fraser's bottom and then through Tayes Valley from Sleepy Hollow to Scary Creek and
33:25
along the new exit essentially. So I'm a wife, mother, I've been
33:34
a nurse for almost twenty years at Cavil Huntington and the Nicky and then also
33:37
avid volunteer in the kids' school system. So I've gotten to the opportunity to
33:40
be the homeroom mom, the tutor, the steam leader, and gotten to
33:45
know the teachers and the principals and the kids and the counselors to have an
33:49
innate knowledge of what our school system needs as well as what our teachers need,
33:54
because we're going into an entirely different atmosphere in our schools. Teaching now
34:01
isn't the same as it was twenty years ago. And with the explain that,
34:06
so we currently have. What we've seen in our area specifically is the
34:10
increase in NAS babies. So like Cavil Huntington had to develop, go back
34:15
and explain what that is, so neonatal addiction essentially, and so all these
34:22
babies that have been born in the last ten to fifteen years are hitting our
34:25
school systems and the way they think, the way they develop, the way
34:30
they interpret touch is entirely different from your typical child because every fiber of their
34:37
being was formed in a variety of toxins depending on the day to day basis.
34:42
And essentially, with that being said, the way they learn is different
34:46
than what your typical child is. And unfortunately this is all new territory,
34:52
so we don't know the best means to go about how to teach them,
34:57
but still be able to teach your standard student. Get the education, the
35:00
quality education across the board to everybody, so that we can end up with
35:06
a workforce fifteen twenty years from now that can be productive, that can be
35:09
helpful, that can help continue to build West Virginia. With all that being
35:15
said, why the run for House? What was it that led for your
35:17
decision to run for the House of Delegates. Honestly, it was my kids.
35:22
I don't want my kids to have to leave West Virginia to find good
35:24
jobs. So my you know, twenty word elevator speech is that, essentially
35:30
I want to help build the economy in West Virginia so that my kids can
35:35
choose to call West Virginia home, so that your kids can call West Virginia
35:38
home. And it's not a that's where I'm from. It's a this is
35:45
where I live, this is where I'm choosing to be, this is where
35:47
i want to raise my family because it's a great place. The people here
35:52
are fantastic. We have generally genuinely been exporting some of our best assets,
35:59
which are kids. We educate them, we give them, you know,
36:01
their college education. We have the trades which are absolutely phenomenal, and it
36:07
will help build our workforce so that if we can get our education stronger so
36:13
we have the quality. And then you also have the trade schools that are
36:17
amazing. There's so many opportunities there and kids can come out making great money
36:22
and have a quality education that will help build It's the footsteps of economy and
36:29
industry, and so if we can provide the workforce, businesses will come.
36:32
So that's essentially I'm doing it for our next generation. I don't want my
36:37
kids to have to leave. I don't want your kids to have to leave.
36:39
And they're the future of our state. If we continue to you know,
36:45
educate them and ship them out, what's going to be left for us
36:47
as a state? Talk with Sarah Brannan, who again is Republican candidate for

37:15
whoever wins this race is going to be my delegate, just so you know.
37:17
So it's a higher standard there more. I'm kidding. I'm kidding about
37:22
that. But that area is a bit unique to West Virginia because it's an
37:27
area and not all if this is not an absolute, but when you start
37:30
talking about Tays Valley and you start scenario it's doing really really well. I
37:35
mean in relative in comparison to the rest of the state. And sometimes I
37:38
think people in the legislature and us in the media and maybe the publics think,
37:43
well, I'm just there to represent my constituents, which you are but
37:47
your votes are going to affect people in Martinsburg, They're going to affect people
37:52
in Mate Wand or Wheeling or wherever. So you're really, in effect voting
37:58
for the entire state. Tays Valley and those areas are doing really really well
38:02
right now, especially with newcre coming in. All these people are moving in
38:06
and so on and so forth. How do we how do you choose what's
38:10
going to how do you take that and then move it to the rest of
38:14
the state, I guess is what I'm trying to ask there. Essentially,
38:15
I think you have to listen to constituents from all over the state. It's
38:19
not just the needs of our area. Honestly, we do live in a
38:23
great area. But what a lot of people think of as ah, well,
38:27
you're in Putnam County. That's a rich county. It really is about
38:30
sixty forty. I mean from what I've seen working in the schools, I
38:32
mean I've been, it's not all Tays Valley. It's not. It definitely
38:36
isn't. And I mean, like our kids went to Mountain View Fort have
38:43
what they need. About sixty percent need a little bit of assistance, whether
38:45
it's through meals, whether it's through you know, backpack buddies, whether it's
38:50
through helping to get the increased funds for your fifth grade trips or your field
38:54
trips or your class shirts. And people don't necessarily realize that just because we're
39:00
in Putnam County, that what you see isn't just those kids driving the BMW's
39:06
and all that that there's actually it's a whole different demographic if you get out
39:09
and you walk it and you talk to kids, and honestly, those kids
39:15
are part of my motivation. The kids that get dropped between the cracks,
39:19
and whether it's because there's not enough time where there's not enough involvement, whether
39:22
it's they're not getting what they need in class because they're not understanding, or
39:27
they're you know, kind of a difference in interpretation that I think is what
39:34
you have to look at as a whole in our entire state, because when
39:37
you look at our entire state, that's the general medium, and I think
39:43
you have to look at what's best across the board for everybody. Because yes,
39:45
we want to bring an industry, want to increase housing, because Putnam
39:50
County specifically has a housing crisis. There's not enough of it, but you
39:55
have to look at, you know, our education across the whole state.
39:58
You have to look at the account me across the whole state. And healthcare.
40:02
Healthcare is huge, Taxes are huge, which affect everybody, and it's
40:07
not what's just best for me and my family or you and yours, but
40:12
you have to look at it. Ultimately, we're here to serve. That's
40:15
how That's what I look at as a whole for my life is where can
40:21
I best be utilized, whether it's being a gopher, whether it's running from
40:23
place to place, whether it's baking cookies and providing meals for different you know,
40:29
vocations. Ultimately, my goal is just to be utilized the best of
40:35
my ability wherever God leads me. Where can people learn more about your campaign?

46:05

46:08
magistrate here in Kanah County. Chad, good morning, Welcome to the show.
46:12
Good morning, Dave, thank you for having me this morning. Tell
46:14
us about Chad Smart, give us your bio. So you know, I've
46:17
i spent last thirty years in public service. I've kind of wore all the
46:22
hats. I've been heavily involved in Volunteer Fire Department, service, EMT corrections,
46:30
reserve police officers. So a little bit of family history about me is,
46:37
I'm a single dad with tas now teenagers. I was raised in a
46:43
drug family, watched my parents go to prison. Then my aunt and uncle
46:49
raised me, and you know that that gave me a good understanding of what
46:55
some families are coming into being raised. At age fifteen, I joined the
47:01
junior firefighter program at the Institute Volunteer Fire Department and that was a kickstart of
47:07
my career just helping people. Let's talk about your situation growing up, because
47:13
that's very interesting that you would bring that up a lot of people would not
47:15
want to say that that they grew up with with drug addicted parents, but
47:21
you're free with that, and you say that that has kind of led you
47:24
to do what you want to do if you're elected magistrate. That is you
47:30
know, I lived in that environment. I experienced it, and you know,
47:34
I was blessed with a great aunt and uncle that took me in,
47:38
took me to church, taught me to mortals, morals and values. And
47:44
I looked at where I started from to where I'm at today, and I've
47:50
worked very hard to get where I'm at today, and I'm proud of where
47:54
I'm at. I love helping people. I've dedicated you know, being in
47:59
the field. You know when somebody calls now on one, you know three
48:02
o'clock in the morning that I'm jumping up out of bed to leaving my family
48:07
to help somebody else. And you know, with that background experience, I
48:12
think that gives me a good judge of character and understand what people go through
48:16
in everyday life. Now, talk about what you'd like to implement if elective.
48:21
Of course, magistrates, obviously there are very strict rules and codes,
48:24
so you can't go in and change the entire system. But what are some
48:27
of the things you would like to do and what do you bring to the
48:29
table if you are elected magistrate? Chap So, I think everybody needs to
48:34
be heard in the courtroom. You know, there is a script and you
48:38
got to stay within the laws. I'm going to be fair and neutral,
48:45
but I want to hear all of the parties. Everybody has a voice,
48:49
and everybody needs to be heard, and that's what's really important. And you
48:53
need to make a decision that is a very neutral and fair decision on all
49:00
bonds and on any cases that you're making a decision. I talked about this
49:07
with just about anybody I have as running for magistrate or a judge or whatever
49:10
the case may be prosecuted attorney, Ninety percent of what you are going to
49:15
see on a daily basis is somehow related to drugs. Is if it's larceny,
49:20
or whether it's burgulary, or whether it's murder, God forbid or whatever,
49:22
it's somehow related to drugs. Talk about that, and you know,
49:27
and that's interesting you brought that up. Is one of one of the things
49:31
I've done is I've went into these rehabilitation programs, the centers and said,
49:39
hey, I like to see your program, see how it works. I
49:44
want to see the numbers. I want to see that you are actually helping
49:47
the people. I would hate to see it sit there and be on the
49:52
bench and send somebody to a program for help, and that program's not working,
50:00
it's not helping that person. So I think that's really important to have
50:07
that knowledge in that tool in your toolbox. What have you heard as you've
50:12
been out on the campaign trail? What do you hear from the public of
50:15
Knawah County when you've been out campaigning more or less? Is I think the
50:22
overall is people don't really understand what a master does. You know, a
50:28
master is the front door of the legal system. You know, everybody goes
50:32
in front of a master for all your arrangements. You're going to hear all
50:37
the cases under ten towers in or less, you're going to handle the landlord
50:40
disputes, you're going to handle DVP orders, PSO orders, you're going to
50:47
You're going to have everything right there. It's the front door. So,
50:52
you know, I think people need to have that understanding that this is a
50:58
very important job. It's this is something that you want to do instead of
51:06
just running for office. This isn't a nine to five job. This is
51:09
you may have to get up three o'clock in the morning to go in and
51:13
do an arrangement. Where can people learn more about your campaign. You have
51:15
a Facebook page, website or anything like that. You Yes, I have
51:20
on a Facebook page, I have elect chadsmater as Kennaught County Mastered. That's
51:27
my Facebook page, all right, and it's s M A R two RS
51:32
two arts. I'm not put two hours in there. Maybe accounting is not
51:36
mine. I mostly looks all right. That was a joke. But that
51:39
was a joke, by the way. Final thirty. Why should someone vote
51:44
for you? I believe that I'm the best candidate in my division. I
51:49
have the experience and the knowledge. I believe I'm a good judge of character.
51:55
I would appreciate any vote. I'm easy to talk to you. I'm
52:02
very understanding. So I believe in the best candidate. All right. Well,
