- Lucas: Velkommen til episode 165 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and here with me is Luna. Luna: Hei hei! Ready to learn something new? I know I am. Lucas: Today we're going to learn a verb that's super useful for introducing yourself. The verb 'å hete' — to be called. Luna: Å hete. That sounds like 'he-teh'? Lucas: Close! Å hete. Listen again: å hete. Luna: Å hete. Okay, I think I've got it. Lucas: Great. Now, when you want to say what your name is, you say 'jeg heter' — I am called. For example, jeg heter Lucas. Luna: Jeg heter Lucas. So if I say my name, it's jeg heter Luna. Lucas: Exactly! Jeg heter Luna. Perfect. Luna: Jeg heter Luna. That feels good. But what if I want to ask someone their name? Lucas: Then you ask: 'hva heter du?' — what are you called? Luna: Hva heter du. So if I meet someone, I can say 'hei, hva heter du?' Lucas: Yes! Hei, hva heter du? That's a perfect way to start a conversation. Luna: And they'll answer with 'jeg heter...' and their name. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice. I'll ask you: hva heter du? Luna: Jeg heter Luna. And you? Lucas: Jeg heter Lucas. Nice to meet you, Luna. Luna: Nice to meet you too, Lucas. Okay, so 'å hete' is for names. But what about talking about other people? Lucas: Good question. For he or she, we say 'han heter' and 'hun heter'. For example, han heter Ola, hun heter Kari. Luna: Han heter Ola, hun heter Kari. So if I point at someone, I can say 'han heter...' or 'hun heter...'. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick scene. Imagine we're at a party. You see a man across the room. What do you ask me? Luna: Hva heter han? Lucas: Han heter Erik. And then you see a woman. What do you ask? Luna: Hva heter hun? Lucas: Hun heter Ingrid. Perfect! Luna: This is so handy. I can already imagine using this at a party or at work. Lucas: And remember, if Fexingo has been helping you make progress with Norwegian, we'd love it if you could support the show. Luna: Yeah, a few listeners chip in monthly at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that helps us keep making episodes like this. Lucas: Exactly. No ads, just listener support. Okay, back to å hete. Let's do a little more practice. Luna: Sure. So, I'll ask you: hva heter du? Lucas: Jeg heter Lucas. And you? Luna: Jeg heter Luna. And what about him? Lucas: Han heter? Who? Luna: Hmm, let's say that guy over there. Hva heter han? Lucas: Han heter Per. And her? Luna: Hun heter? I don't know. Maybe Anne? Lucas: Yes, hun heter Anne. Good guess. Luna: This is fun. I feel like I can actually introduce myself now. Lucas: You can! Let's review the phrases. We have 'å hete' — the verb. 'Jeg heter' — I am called. 'Hva heter du?' — what are you called?
