- Lucas: Luna, welcome back. Ready for another little Cantonese lesson? Luna: Yes! I've been practicing the beach phrases. '游水', '曬太陽'. I love it. Lucas: Great. Today we're going back to the park, but focusing on something else. Luna: Oh yeah? What? Lucas: Trees. We're going to talk about trees in Cantonese. Imagine you're taking a walk and you see a really big tree. Luna: Okay. A big tree. How do I say that? Lucas: 好大棵樹. Let's break it down: 好 means very, 大 means big, 棵 is a classifier for trees, and 樹 means tree. So 好大棵樹. Luna: 好大棵樹. Lucas: Perfect. Good job. Now, if you want to say the tree is very tall, you can say 好高. 高 means tall. Luna: 好高. So for a tall tree, I could say 好大棵樹, 好高? Lucas: Exactly. You can combine them. Or just say 好高 to mean 'very tall.' Now, what if there are many trees? Luna: Many trees... 好多樹? Lucas: Wow, you're good. 好多樹. 好多 means many. So 好多樹. And if the leaves are very green, you can say 好綠. Luna: 好綠. Green. I like that. So I can say 好多樹, 好綠. Lucas: Right. Let's practice a little scene. You're at the park with a friend. You see a huge, tall tree. What do you say? Luna: 嘩, 好大棵樹, 好高! Lucas: 嘩, 好大棵樹, 好高! That's lovely. And then you look around and see many green trees. Luna: 好多樹, 好綠! Lucas: Exactly. You're a natural. Let's do a quick repetition round. Repeat after me: 好大棵樹. Luna: 好大棵樹. Lucas: 好高. Luna: 好高. Lucas: 好多樹. Luna: 好多樹. Lucas: 好綠. Luna: 好綠. Lucas: Now, let's put it all together. Imagine you're telling me about your walk. You say: '我去公園, 見到好多樹, 好綠.' Luna: 我去公園, 見到好多樹, 好綠. Lucas: Beautiful. OK, so when you're at the park and you see a big tree, you can just point and say '好大棵樹.' People will understand. Luna: That's so simple. I love that. You know, this reminds me — a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these episodes going. If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Cantonese, buying a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo really helps us keep making these for free. Lucas: Yeah, it's true. Small amounts make a big difference. And we appreciate everyone who does that. Luna: Alright, back to trees. Can we practice one more time? I want to be able to say 'look at that tall tree'? Lucas: 好想. You can say '你睇吓, 好高嗰棵樹.' 你睇吓 means 'look,' 嗰 means 'that.' So '你睇吓, 好高嗰棵樹.' Luna: 你睇吓, 好高嗰棵樹. Lucas: Exactly. '嗰棵樹' means 'that tree.' So you're saying 'look, that tall tree.' Luna: Nice. So I can say '你睇吓, 好大棵樹' if I want to say 'look, a big tree'? Lucas: Yes. 你睇吓, 好大棵樹. Perfect. OK, let's do a quick recap. Today we learned 好大棵樹, 好高, 好多樹, and 好綠. Can you say them all? Luna: 好大棵樹, 好高, 好多樹, 好綠. Got it. Lucas: Excellent. Next time you go for a walk, try using these. It'll make your Cantonese come alive. Thanks for joining us on Fexingo. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Bye everyone! Practice these and you'll be describing trees like a pro.
