- 0:00Tuesday, October thirteenth.
- 0:01Here's what moved.
- 0:03Global first.
- 0:04Prompt Brent settled up two percent Monday at one hundred six dollars and seventy
- 0:08nine cents, per Reuters.
- 0:10That's the highest since September twenty ninth, and it extends the rally from the
- 0:14one hundred five dollars and forty one cents we had Monday morning.
- 0:17The driver is the Houthis.
- 0:19They claimed Saturday's strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh,
- 0:22and Reuters has the toll at thirteen dead and more than three hundred injured,
- 0:26with further attacks Sunday.
- 0:28Houthi leadership repeated its threats against Saudi oil facilities.
- 0:32The bearish offset got ignored.
- 0:34I C E gasoil fell two point three percent to fourteen hundred forty nine dollars a
- 0:38metric ton after the U S administration said Russia would supply more than three
- 0:42hundred thousand metric tons of diesel, roughly two point two five million barrels.
- 0:46Crude desks looked past it and priced supply security.
- 0:50Today is the OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report.
- 0:52I haven't seen the document, so treat this as the lead in.
- 0:55Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais told the World Petroleum Congress in Riyadh that
- 0:59OPEC now sees 2026 demand growth at four hundred thousand barrels per day,
- 1:04down from one point four million at the start of the year.
- 1:07He expects the deferred demand to show up in 2027, and he warned that
- 1:11underinvestment in refining and upstream is already causing bottlenecks.
- 1:15Also from Riyadh, the Saudi energy minister said the kingdom wants pipeline capacity
- 1:19of ten million barrels per day within two to three years, mostly through pumping
- 1:23station upgrades on the East West line.
- 1:25He also described temporarily converting a gas pipeline to carry about one point two
- 1:29million barrels per day of crude for seven to eight weeks, returning to gas by May,
- 1:34with more investment potentially taking it to three million.
- 1:36The East West line restarted September twenty second and reached nearly six million
- 1:41barrels per day by early October, about four and a half million exportable,
- 1:46per Reuters.
- 1:47Aramco's Amin Nasser said onshore commercial inventories globally are below six
- 1:53billion barrels, which he called the last line of defense.
- 1:57North America.
- 1:58The Canadian heavy discount is the story.
- 2:01Western Canadian Select for November at Hardisty settled Friday at twenty five
- 2:05dollars and fifty five cents under W T I, per CalRock.
- 2:09It was twenty dollars and twenty cents under on Thursday, and it's the widest since
- 2:132023.
- 2:15That's the latest print I have.
- 2:16The drivers are soft Gulf Coast heavy fuel oil margins, elevated tanker freight,
- 2:21export pipes running near ninety three percent full, and winter diluent blending,
- 2:26which adds volume to every barrel moved.
- 2:28Express into Casper is full at two hundred eighty thousand barrels per day.
- 2:33Trans Mountain is near sixty percent of capacity, about four hundred twenty five
- 2:37thousand barrels per day through Westridge.
- 2:39Mexico had nothing material.
- 2:41United States.
- 2:43W T I gained one dollar and sixty nine cents, or one point eight percent,
- 2:47to settle at ninety three dollars and fifty four cents.
- 2:50Brent to W T I widened to thirteen dollars and twenty five cents,
- 2:53from twelve ninety nine.
- 2:55Goldman raised its December Brent forecast to ninety dollars from eighty five,
- 2:59citing a risk premium a bit over twenty dollars.
- 3:01It sees W T I at eighty one in December and seventy three in 2027,
- 3:06pointing to high shipping costs between the U S and Europe.
- 3:09No E I A release in this window.
- 3:11The Weekly Petroleum Status Report comes tomorrow.
- 3:14Last week's baseline: commercial crude drew three point two million barrels to four
- 3:18hundred twenty four point one million, against an expected build of one point seven
- 3:22million.
- 3:23Cushing built four hundred forty thousand to twenty four point seven million,
- 3:27still one point eight four million under the five year average.
- 3:30Midwest stocks built one point eight seven million on refinery turnarounds.
- 3:34The Rockies drew one hundred forty four thousand barrels to twenty two point three
- 3:37five million.
- 3:38Utilization averaged ninety two point seven percent.
- 3:41Baker Hughes Friday showed total rigs up five to six hundred three,
- 3:45oil rigs up six to four hundred sixty two.
- 3:48On corporate news, shippers are still digesting Hess Midstream's two hundred million
- 3:53dollar purchase of Chevron's D J Basin gathering system, which carries a twenty
- 3:58percent stake in Saddlehorn and extends Bakken contracts through 2045.
- 4:03Uinta Basin.
- 4:05Yellow wax is indicated ten to fourteen dollars under Cushing.
- 4:09Delivered waxy bids at the Gulf Coast are around three dollars and twenty cents over
- 4:13W T I, or ninety six dollars and seventy four cents.
- 4:17Heated railcars to Gulf refiners run sixteen to eighteen dollars a barrel.
- 4:21That leaves a wellhead netback of seventy eight dollars and seventy four cents to
- 4:25eighty dollars and seventy four cents, twelve eighty to fourteen eighty under
- 4:29Cushing.
- 4:30By my math, that's worse than selling local at the indicated wax discount.
- 4:34So spot rail is shut, and only committed minimum volume term contracts are moving.
- 4:40Salt Lake's five refineries are taking their ceiling of about eighty thousand
- 4:43barrels per day.
- 4:44Rail loadings hold near one hundred fifteen thousand.
- 4:47Energy Transfer's Price River expansion is targeting fourth quarter completion,
- 4:51pending final Utah D E Q permits, and Wildcat is still growing Helper from twenty
- 4:56thousand to one hundred thousand.
- 4:58The Uinta Basin Railway is stalled with no physical construction.
- 5:02The S T B remand is pending, Forest Service right of way is unresolved,
- 5:06and Seven County financing isn't final.
- 5:09Operators are drilling in the normal course.
- 5:11Bakken.
- 5:13Williston production is steady around one point one five to one point two million
- 5:17barrels per day.
- 5:18The latest Director's Cut from Nathan Anderson has North Dakota at one point one
- 5:23five three million, up two point five percent month over month,
- 5:26with thirty three rigs.
- 5:28Gas capture is ninety six point three to ninety six point six percent,
- 5:32roughly one hundred thirty million cubic feet per day flared.
- 5:35Dakota Access is full with negligible spot room.
- 5:39Double H's conversion to N G L service removed sixty five to eighty eight thousand
- 5:43barrels per day of crude egress toward Guernsey, pushing barrels onto D A P L and
- 5:47the Bridger and Belle Fourche systems.
- 5:49Bakken rail to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast costs ten to fifteen dollars,
- 5:54which leaves spot rail netbacks behind pipe even with Brent this wide.
- 5:58Chevron plans to go from three rigs to two in December, and Hess Midstream sees
- 6:03Bakken throughput down roughly five percent in 2027 before it plateaus.
- 6:08Powder River.
- 6:10Anschutz, Continental, Devon, EOG, and Peak are steady, with no new takeaway
- 6:15constraints reported.
- 6:17Plains continues integrating its five hundred eighty five million dollar Silver
- 6:21Creek gathering acquisition into its Guernsey footprint.
- 6:24Now Gern zee, the part that matters.
- 6:27Light sweet is indicatively steady at eighty five cents over Cushing.
- 6:31Clearbrook is assessed one fifty to two ten under Gern zee,
- 6:35which is sixty five cents to a dollar twenty five under Cushing.
- 6:39The problem isn't price, it's space.
- 6:41Pony Express is heavily apportioned, moving about two hundred thirty thousand
- 6:45barrels per day out of Gern zee on a four hundred thirty thousand system.
- 6:49The thirty day binding open season by Tallgrass and Bridger added no incremental
- 6:54capacity.
- 6:55Platte, about one hundred forty five thousand to Wood River and Patoka,
- 6:58is also heavily prorated.
- 7:00Saddlehorn and Grand Mesa keep moving D J barrels south.
- 7:04Here's why it bites.
- 7:06A thirteen dollar and twenty five cent Brent W T I spread pulls every barrel toward
- 7:10the Gulf, and Cushing is the only pipeline route to it.
- 7:14A barrel that can't get space on Pony or Platte has two bad options.
- 7:18Clearbrook puts it into a Midwest market that just built one point eight seven
- 7:22million barrels on turnarounds.
- 7:24Rail costs ten to fifteen dollars, which eats the arbitrage.
- 7:27Apportionment is the bottleneck setting Rockies netbacks.
- 7:31That's the brief.
- 7:32Back tomorrow after the E I A.
