- 0:00I saw autism and education. Here are my three top tips on
- 0:03how to overcome those obstacles of autism and Academia.
- 0:06And being on the autism spectrum are being somewhere where you're
- 0:09in a learning environment. Don't go anywhere, it's coming
- 0:12up. Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 0:16apps. We world.
- 0:16My name is Dan, I have autism ADHD OCD and dyslexia, and I'm
- 0:20making weekly videos all about this stuff.

- 0:31then make sure to follow this page for daily videos or yes
- 0:34daily videos guys. What's going on?
- 0:36I have put together my three top strategies because not only have
- 0:39I been to primary school and I went to secondary school or high
- 0:41school. Then I also went to college,
- 0:43which is in the UK a little bit between University and high
- 0:45school, which is like, basically a technical college.
- 0:48Then I went to University now, I've done it all, I went from
- 0:51nothing to having a degree in chemistry, and I really want to
- 0:53share that with you because I think there's some value there
- 0:55to be had. Now I didn't do it just like any
- 0:58other kind of typical kid. And then I actually have to
- 1:01create a commendations and I have a an accommodation team
- 1:03with me and that I learnt all these skills from.
- 1:05So it's kind of like a bit from me and a bit from the people I
- 1:08learnt from who are kind of taking care of me, who the
- 1:10disability kind of Advocates of the school that I was in.
- 1:13Okay. So without further Ado why have
- 1:16I got ink on me? That's weird.
- 1:17But further Ado guys, let's get into it, okay?
- 1:20So the first one is audio, recordings and Camera Eclipse.
- 1:24So using a smartphone, like I have my iPhone with me most of
- 1:27the time on an iPad. I would actually say it to
- 1:29dictaphone mode. And record the, the lecture, or
- 1:33the speech that the, the lecture was giving, so I could refer to
- 1:37it back when I'm going over my notes which was super, super
- 1:39awesome. One of the things I did quite
- 1:41often was if there was something on the board that I didn't, you
- 1:43know, I couldn't write down quick enough because I'm
- 1:45dyslexic as well, I kind of hold my phone up like this and I take
- 1:48a picture of the Whiteboard, so I had an actual physical copy of
- 1:52the of the Whiteboard later on. Because obviously, when they're
- 1:55writing things down, they may go to something else.
- 1:57And if you are notes are incorrect, then if you're not
- 1:59writing down, exactly. As they are, you could be very,
- 2:01very confusing. But I use this so much because
- 2:04when I went back home, I was able to listen to the lecture.
- 2:06Look at the notes, as if I was sitting there again and it
- 2:09because being on the autism spectrum, it takes a lot of time
- 2:12to really digest a lot of that information.
- 2:15And so, yeah. So let's get on to step.
- 2:17Number two. I hope you enjoyed the first 10
- 2:19guys. For we do step number two, I
- 2:21just want to let you know that I'm hosting a free autism

- 2:40to register right now. For your chance to be in this
- 2:44master class, there is a limited amount of space because of
- 2:46holding holding it on Zoom. So you're going to be in with a
- 2:48chance to get it. You got to go on the right now.
- 2:51The ass will.com for / steps and sign up right now, it's going
- 2:54amazing. I'm talking about three major
- 2:56steps to increase, happiness of creativity understanding
- 2:58communication, add a cover. Jeans for autistic children with
- 3:01parents. It's really amazing.
- 3:03See you there. Okay, so, number two is label
- 3:05and date or paperwork. One of the things that you find
- 3:08in Academia, is that the so much paperwork.
- 3:10You get that, you know, sheets of paper and hand out.
- 3:12Your may be taking notes. I'm so many passages, something
- 3:14else. And the end of the day, or the
- 3:15end of the week, you have stacks of stuff, and they're completely
- 3:17uncoordinated, and you don't know where they go.
- 3:19So, what I used to do is I'd write in the top corner of the
- 3:23first page page, one. And then the date.
- 3:25And then, I get the second one page to another date.
- 3:27So, at the end of the week, I have a date.
- 3:29I used in time, you know, the first page to the last page I
- 3:32got on that day organized so I can staple them together.
- 3:35Put them in a pocket and I've got them all ready for my notes
- 3:37when I doing revision, etc, etc, which is pretty amazing.
- 3:40And that was probably one of those profound things, I learned
- 3:43while still in University, even though I did a degree in
- 3:45chemistry, that was probably the most amazing things that I did
- 3:48learn. Okay?
- 3:49So number three was a buddy system / Mentor.
- 3:51Now, I had both of these. I had a huge, like, believe it
- 3:54in buddy, systems and Mentor systems because I feel like they
- 3:57are the things I'm going to get you through some difficult
- 3:59times. When you're in University or
- 4:01school. So I had a friend called Tom and
- 4:03he was amazing and Tommy's to come and meet all my classes.
- 4:05He was in the same classes and mean, we used to ride the car
- 4:07there together to go to university, but Tom was also a
- 4:10pistol to lean on when I needed help.
- 4:12And he also helped me kind of like, read things over and over
- 4:15again, when a lot of people would kind of get a bit annoyed
- 4:17about that because of autism, right?
- 4:19Don't always just take in all the stuff that I know.
- 4:21I want to talk about it and process it a little bit more.
- 4:24Now, I also was set up the student mentor, and it was a
- 4:26lovely woman and she was from Germany, actually.
- 4:28And so I'd come and see her. Her.
- 4:29Every I think there's every week had gone to see her and she
- 4:33talked to me about anything that's going on and he issues
- 4:35are worries that I had. This is crazy good.
- 4:37Now let's just set up because the university I went to had a
- 4:40great Disabled Student kind of process and a system, not all
- 4:45universities and schools will have this so definitely check
- 4:47with your sink or your special educational needs coordinated to
- 4:50see if this type of support is available, maybe you have even
- 4:53better support where you are, but a buddy system is great and
- 4:56mental system is even better. So I would suggest having both
- 4:59them. If you And if you can't just
- 5:01have the buddy system that works.
- 5:02Well, and how I got the buddy system was that made friends
- 5:05with somebody, I made friends, somebody who was on the same
- 5:07class as me, who is doing the same thing as me and I could
- 5:09relate to you. So just try and find someone
- 5:11like that. That was super awesome and the
- 5:13university will help you do that as well.
- 5:14Pretty much all universities and schools have a system to help
- 5:17pair you up with like a big brother or a buddy system, so
- 5:20that we super awesome. And we guys don't forget my
- 5:22master class, go to autism. Go to the astral.com forward
- 5:25slash steps right now. Register for the master classes
- 5:27can be absolutely amazing. I will see you.
