Transcript
- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo. Episode 92 — can you believe it? Luna: I know, right? And I'm actually remembering stuff from earlier episodes. Like last time at the post office? Un timbre, envoyer une lettre... it's sticking. Lucas: That's awesome. And today we're going to build on what you already know. We've done numbers 1 through 20, so now let's tackle 21 to 30. Luna: Ooh, more numbers. I'm ready. Let's start with 21. Lucas: 21 is vingt et un. Say it with me: vingt et un. Luna: Vingt et un. Lucas: Good. Notice it's vingt — that's 20 — and then et un. So literally 'twenty and one.' Now 22 is different: vingt-deux. No et, just a hyphen. Vingt-deux. Luna: Vingt-deux. Lucas: Perfect. So the pattern from 22 to 29 is vingt plus a hyphen plus the digit. 23 is vingt-trois. Luna: Vingt-trois. Lucas: 24 is vingt-quatre. Luna: Vingt-quatre. Lucas: 25 is vingt-cinq. Luna: Vingt-cinq. Lucas: 26 is vingt-six. Luna: Vingt-six. Lucas: 27 is vingt-sept. Luna: Vingt-sept. Lucas: 28 is vingt-huit. Luna: Vingt-huit. Lucas: 29 is vingt-neuf. Luna: Vingt-neuf. And 30? Lucas: 30 is trente. Trente. Luna: Trente. So vingt et un, vingt-deux, vingt-trois... all the way to vingt-neuf, then trente. Lucas: Exactly. And see how 21 is the only one with et? The rest are just vingt plus the number. Luna: That makes it easy. Let me try counting from 21 to 30. Vingt et un, vingt-deux, vingt-trois, vingt-quatre, vingt-cinq, vingt-six, vingt-sept, vingt-huit, vingt-neuf, trente. Lucas: Flawless. You've got it. Luna: Thanks. But how would I use these in real life? Like, if I'm buying something that costs 25 euros? Lucas: Good question. You could say: Ça coûte vingt-cinq euros. Or if you're telling someone your age: J'ai vingt-sept ans. Luna: Right, we learned that in the 'how old are you' episode. So J'ai vingt-sept ans means I'm 27 years old. Lucas: Exactly. And if you're ordering at a café and the total is 23 euros, the server might say: Ça fait vingt-trois euros. Luna: Ça fait vingt-trois euros. Okay, I'll remember that. Lucas: You know, it's amazing how Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with French. From numbers to real conversations. Luna: Yeah, it really has. And I love that there are no ads in these episodes. It feels like we're just chatting. Lucas: We deliberately don't run ads on these. If you want to support that choice, the link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: That's a great way to keep things ad-free and focused on learning. Every little bit helps. Lucas: Absolutely. Now, let's practice those numbers again. I'll say a number in English, you say it in French. 21. Luna: Vingt et un. Lucas: 23. Luna: Vingt-trois. Lucas: 28. Luna: Vingt-huit. Lucas: 30. Luna: Trente. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're at a market and you see apples for 2 euros each. You want 12 apples. How much would that be? Luna: Uh... 2 times 12 is 24. So vingt-quatre euros. Lucas: Exactly. And if you had 30 euros, you could say: J'ai trente euros. Luna: J'ai trente euros. That's a nice round number. Lucas: Alright, let's wrap up today. We learned vingt et un through vingt-neuf and trente. Keep practicing, and you'll have them down in no time. Luna: Thanks Lucas. See you next time for more French fun. Lucas: Bye Luna. And to all our listeners, practice these numbers till we chat again. À bientôt!
