- 0:07Welcome back to another edition of the Just in Time podcast.
- 0:10I'm your host Justin, and pleasure to have you on again,
- 0:14Will. Likewise, brother, always a
- 0:16pleasure to be on with you. You know, you said the
- 0:18standards, so I got to uphold. It appreciate that of course, so
- 0:26playoffs. You talk about playoffs,
- 0:28brother. Playoffs, man, playoffs.
- 0:31We can win a game. You know this cheap version of
- 0:34whatever knock off they're going to put out next year.
- 0:38Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 0:40I remember when you came with me the, with the, the, the topic a
- 0:44couple days ago. You know, it's just, it's
- 0:47remarkable how like I always say before I've said this for years,
- 0:50how they've tiptoed, the NCAA have tiptoed with every change,
- 0:55there's been long overdue. Everything is just, they're slow
- 1:00on the update. You know, they just, they can't
- 1:04get anything right. Cheers to the Kirkland brothers.
- 1:07Yep. Yeah, no, yeah.
- 1:14But NCAA can't get anything right.
- 1:16You know, I think I remember I sent you a while back.
- 1:20Let me see. It was a picture.
- 1:23I saw it on on Instagram. Here we go. 2014 playoff.
- 1:29That the Big 10? I remember I sent it to you
- 1:33because I told you who said the Big 10 is useless.
- 1:38And you have fulfilling your purpose but.
- 1:40Here we go 2014 playoffs. I mean, it's not 32, but if
- 1:46you're going to say, hey, this is the top 25, these teams
- 1:52should be ranked. This is your top 25.
- 1:56Then do a 2014 playoff, cut the bowl games and conference
- 2:01championships and just get right into it.
- 2:03Yeah, like I, you know, I said in the past, you know, I would
- 2:06definitely wouldn't mind AA24 team, but you know, actually it
- 2:10like just you know, for people who don't know, I'll just give
- 2:12them a quick overview. 20262027 season, the College Football
- 2:16Playoff, you know, maintain their twelve team format rather
- 2:20than expanding any further. You know the key rule changes
- 2:23for this coming season. It includes, you know, the
- 2:25guaranteed automatic bids for the the the four powerful
- 2:29conference championships. So obviously ACC, Big 10, Big 12
- 2:32ACC and the highest ranked Group of 6 champion.
- 2:36And here's the big the big thing.
- 2:37Notre Dame received an automatic berth if ranked in the top 12
- 2:41all. Right, Notre Dame.
- 2:42Here's the deal. Y'all haven't been relative in
- 2:46anything other than whining and complaining that y'all got left
- 2:51out for this and that you know all y'all are relevant for since
- 2:56Brian Kelly. Not since Brian Kelly left Notre
- 3:01Dame and Marcus Freeman brought him to the playoffs and brought
- 3:05him to the national championship game, what, a year or two after
- 3:07he left? Yeah, so Brian Kelly first year,
- 3:12first year with the LSU was 2022.
- 3:14They made the the title game last season, so the for the 24
- 3:18season, but they lost to Ohio State.
- 3:20But you know y'all whine and complain.
- 3:23Join a comp. Yep.
- 3:26How about you do that? We can talk, Join a conference,
- 3:29play the hard in and out schedules that these other guys
- 3:32play. Don't take that week off at the
- 3:36end of the season and then complain that you ain't in the
- 3:39championship. Put in the work.
- 3:42Put in the work. Yeah, just get my bag.
- 3:45Go ahead. Yeah, looking at this 2014
- 3:47playoff, most of it would have been the exact same.
- 3:50You'd have had some schools, some blowout games, you know?
- 3:55So be it. I mean, so be it.
- 4:01You know, you're always going to have those blowout games, pull
- 4:05up games, You know, 2014 playoff bracket that they put that they
- 4:11proposed the top eight teams would have buys, everybody else
- 4:17would play and then it would just trickle down from there
- 4:21until you left with the final two.
- 4:22But the NCAA thinks they have money coming in from all these
- 4:29bowl games, which they do. They have a good bit of money
- 4:31coming from these bowl games. They have a good bit of money
- 4:35coming from these conference championship games.
- 4:37But the amount of money you would get from expanding the
- 4:41playoffs, you expand the playoffs and you've got, you
- 4:45know, probably six to seven SEC teams in the playoffs at all
- 4:49times. That's right.
- 4:52You know you do that. You got that.
- 4:54That's a good bit of money right there.
- 4:57Well, expansion in general, yeah, expansion in general is
- 5:00going to bring you dollars because this is about the
- 5:02dollars. And you don't have to get rid of
- 5:05the bowl games. Yeah, definitely not start.
- 5:09Everybody a week earlier start everybody a week 0.
- 5:13I totally agree, I said. Listen, you know, if anything
- 5:16you don't, you don't have to. I still value tradition.
- 5:18So you don't have to eliminate bowl games or bowl season.
- 5:22They just have to be reimagined. So like I would just do
- 5:25everything you should have like a bowl extravaganza, so to speak
- 5:30at like you say week 0. Like that way you can you have
- 5:34to worry about opt outs from players or teams I don't like in
- 5:37the past. I don't mind certain players
- 5:39after now because if I'm if, like I said before, if I'm like
- 5:42a projected first round guy, especially in the top half of
- 5:44the first round, if I'm not in the playoff, I mean, what, what
- 5:48do I gain from that? Especially the neutral site
- 5:52glorified exhibition. Yeah, you gained nothing like OK
- 5:57in 20, the 24th season, when Nuss Meyer played that last
- 6:04game. You look at it this way, Dust
- 6:06Meyer played that last game and got everybody excited for what
- 6:10he was going to be this season. He was the Heisman favorite at
- 6:15one point, you know, But you also look at it as this way.
- 6:20Weeks played that game, snap his leg in half.
- 6:25You know you've got players like that, but you play that game at
- 6:28the not to mention, OK, you get teams in those bowl games better
- 6:35500 on the season. They don't.
- 6:36Yeah, but. Let's be real, they don't
- 6:39deserve to go out and play another game.
- 6:41This season should have ended at 66.
- 6:43And that's, and that's the problem that you're going to see
- 6:45like because I've seen a few bowl games this year, like teams
- 6:48are 5 or 7 because their teams are opt out.
- 6:51So like that's the, that's the danger of being so rigid on how
- 6:55things used to be. And like I said, I'm a
- 6:57traditional guy, traditional values, but just but I
- 7:01understand the shifts in business.
- 7:02So if you put these things you you put these bowl games at week
- 7:061 list, think about the opportunity.
- 7:08You could like play games over overseas for all I care, because
- 7:10you're already doing the Ireland series, like play them over by
- 7:14you. You get it.
- 7:15Like college basketball does the Maui Invitational every year was
- 7:20you get like, no, I know that's not international.
- 7:21It's in the States, but just like, but you, you get a the
- 7:25opportunity for like coaches, players, fans to visit another
- 7:28part of the world, another part of the country and you still
- 7:31have the investment with the urgency because it's a Week 0
- 7:34game. It's the regular season started
- 7:36and you want to get your season off to right foot.
- 7:39Exactly. And I get the problem.
- 7:40But you have, let's say you do it week zero, you start week
- 7:45zero, you play these games. I mean, you have no problems
- 7:50playing Thursday night, play Thursday through Sunday.
- 7:53Then the next weekend you can play the rest of the games
- 7:57Friday to Monday. You know, you've got a bit,
- 7:59little bit of built in wiggle room.
- 8:01The only wiggle room you don't have is the Army Navy game at
- 8:04the end of the season. That is an executive order now.
- 8:11Yeah. I'm not going to lie, I kind of
- 8:13like it. I mean, just like, yeah, just
- 8:16like, yeah, absolutely. I mean, one of the bigger ones,
- 8:19you know, admittedly, you know, growing up, you know, just, I
- 8:22never looked at it so highly. I know it's an important game.
- 8:25It's like it's a rivalry. I mean, it's the armed forces,
- 8:28but just, you know, it's not like, you know, Iowa State,
- 8:32Michigan or like the Iron Bowl and stuff like that.
- 8:35But I know it's it's it has its weight.
- 8:39And it means a lot to those guys.
- 8:41As you should you know, I respect like, I mean, they, they
- 8:43are far more important things to worry about football.
- 8:45So I mean, I just, I just let them have their moment.
- 8:47So I'm totally for that. They are far more important
- 8:50things to do, but. Yeah, and I know it.
- 8:55They like, they traditionally play it in December.
- 8:58You know what's going to happen, though, if you keep that game
- 9:01that weekend, they expand the playoffs.
- 9:05One of those themes is always in the top 25.
- 9:07There's a reason with, you know. Yeah, one of them will get a
- 9:11playoff bid. What happens when that playoff
- 9:13is that weekend? And see that and that's my, my
- 9:15problem with like being rigged in certain areas.
- 9:19So it just because you can't move it up another seven days.
- 9:23I mean, what's to me, that's just my standpoint.
- 9:25What's what's a difference in seven days?
- 9:28Like, yeah, we could play a robbery.
- 9:30But I mean, what if one team, let's say if I'm Navy and we 12
- 9:35and O and we play an Army, that's like 4:00 and 8:00.
- 9:38I mean it's a historic rivalry, but I'm trying to rest up for a
- 9:41posting general. Yeah.
- 9:43So, I mean, but you know, that game is important, but you, like
- 9:46you said one week earlier, that's not going to hurt
- 9:49anything. I mean, it shouldn't.
- 9:51No, you know, but not only that, we need a total redesign of the
- 9:58entire college football system. Yes, he said.
- 10:02You see that every day. Yeah, I mean, you got stuff like
- 10:06what happened at LSU with Lane Kiffin where he left them.
- 10:11Coaches leave all the time, right?
- 10:15And the only difference between a coach leaving a job and like,
- 10:22if me or you left our jobs and went do something else, most
- 10:25people look at that and it's like, look, it would look at us
- 10:27and be like, oh, they got a better opportunity somewhere
- 10:29else. That's it.
- 10:33Yeah, you look at these coaches, sure Ole Miss would have, you
- 10:38know, made it to where they made it.
- 10:40That is the best he is that team has ever done in the history of
- 10:45that school. In the modern era, not even
- 10:47close. Yeah, that's that's they've done
- 10:50the best season they've had. How can you compare that to the
- 10:56constant success a place like LSU has?
- 10:59The constant numbers they drive. I'll give you 1.
- 11:02You want to know why I owe miss plays at 2:30 every afternoon on
- 11:06a Saturday? Because there's not a they're
- 11:10not the traditional success stories in the SEC.
- 11:13That's why. LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Texas.
- 11:17Now that's why they get the night gangs, because they have a
- 11:21night atmosphere that's well known, historically known.
- 11:25You know, I mean, I feel like the only reason Ole Miss had
- 11:29such a following during the playoffs because everybody was
- 11:32making fun of them because they don't show up to nothing.
- 11:34Yeah, just like like I said, you know, going back off your point,
- 11:37just, you know, you just need a massive overall.
- 11:39I know that's a tired statement, but like I said, just like you
- 11:43said, starting off, go push the seat up to week to week 0, make
- 11:47week one week zero, however you want to distinguish it.
- 11:50Have a bull extravaganza, all the bulls at the start of the
- 11:54season, No opt outs, no, no distractions, no.
- 11:58And like I'm and I say that it's important because of what my my
- 12:03formula is right at the bottom. You know, I took notes on it.
- 12:06I know many people talk about the 2014.
- 12:09I say, listen, go to 32. RIP the Band-Aid off already.
- 12:13And I'm just I'm and bear with me, I'm going to say it like
- 12:16this. Teams ranked in the top 25 get
- 12:18the automatic bids because you are you already do top 25 the
- 12:22whole season. Let the top 25 have a tremendous
- 12:25value through the whole year and the several remaining teams to
- 12:29complete the bracket would just be a large selections based on
- 12:31like, you know, out of conf tough.
- 12:33Did you schedule a tough route of conference teams?
- 12:36You know, you in conference schedule all the other tie
- 12:38breaks, all the other factors, you know, and by doing this you
- 12:41take the unnecessary guesswork out of it.
- 12:44All this weekly college shows and stuff like college like
- 12:48selection shows unnecessary. I think we said it from the
- 12:51beginning, though, you know, if you're going to stop counting
- 12:55the AP poll or the coaches poll after the first week in October.
- 13:00But what is it first week in? Yeah, No, it's the.
- 13:04You know, normally like it's like last week, October, like
- 13:06starting starting November is when, yeah, nothing go away.
- 13:10Why not have the so-called experts get together in August
- 13:15and start putting out their rankings in August?
- 13:18They ain't doing anything. Maybe it'll force them to
- 13:21actually watch football and understand that Notre Dame isn't
- 13:24in a conference. Shouldn't be rewarded for bad
- 13:27behaviour. Yeah, I mean, just like like
- 13:29like I said, it's just you maintain the value of a top 25
- 13:32because like even the AP like once November comes, nobody
- 13:35really cared about the a people, a people like they did in
- 13:39September and October. But like just when you, but when
- 13:42you have a like you said, start at the end of the year, just go
- 13:45from there. All this nonsense of weekly
- 13:47selection shows, like the first selection show this.
- 13:50I don't care about that because if my team's undefeated, I don't
- 13:52care about that. I mean, what what good does that
- 13:55mean? What good is it for our team to
- 13:57beat? So we LSU guys, what good is it
- 13:59for us to be right in the top 12 in the first week of November if
- 14:03we lose four straight and we're not going to make the playoff
- 14:06run? Oh, this is the first time in a
- 14:08long time I think we should be ranked in the top 12 in the
- 14:11first ranking, based off the excitement around the program we
- 14:15had Brian Kelly, we were lucky to be ranked in the top 25.
- 14:19But yeah, like in this system, like, listen, top 25 automatic
- 14:23bids. I mean, just take all the
- 14:24guesswork out. And then just like 7 at large, I
- 14:27say eliminate conference title games.
- 14:29Why? Because they're inconsistently
- 14:31important over time. Look at two.
- 14:34Yeah, go ahead. Yeah, you look at Tulane and
- 14:36them look at the SEC, we are by for the toughest conference
- 14:40plan. It doesn't matter.
- 14:43We don't have any weak teams on the schedule.
- 14:46We play in nine conference games already and that would bump us.
- 14:48That bumps us up to 10. If you make it to a conference
- 14:50championship game, I top content, you know, playing a
- 14:53tenth SEC game. And The thing is like, you know,
- 14:56I, I go back to, you know, 2004 Auburn, they were undefeated the
- 15:02whole year and then get to play in the championship game.
- 15:04They beat Tennessee twice on the end.
- 15:07They beat us. They beat the ones that they
- 15:08beat Georgia, and they beat they beat Tennessee twice in that
- 15:13season undefeat with Jason Campbell, Tom like, but they
- 15:16even play in the in the national title, they were 14 and up 13.
- 15:20And up. Well, that's because that was
- 15:21back when we were letting computers do all the guess.
- 15:23And now we're letting people who probably don't turn on the TV
- 15:27and watch this college football, college football Saturday all
- 15:30season long. They probably sit there on a
- 15:32Sunday, watch the NFL and think they're watching college
- 15:34football. And look, and I'll give you 2
- 15:36more recent ones, 2023 and Florida State.
- 15:40Let's yes, you know, Jordan Travis got hurt.
- 15:42I mean, but still, you can't take away they have a dominant
- 15:44season. If they if they lost 70 to to
- 15:49nothing in the playoffs, so be it.
- 15:50Like we said, I mean, they earned their right to be in the
- 15:52playoffs. They were undefeated Power 5
- 15:54conference title champion. Put in like Tulane or who else
- 15:59was it this year? JNU.
- 16:00Yep. And it beat by 50 points.
- 16:03What's the difference? You put in the undefeated
- 16:04Florida State into the playoffs and let them get beat, you know?
- 16:12Even this year with Duke, they won the national championship
- 16:16and, and I mean not I'm sorry, the conference championship.
- 16:18ACC, even though Miami was a big, way better team because of
- 16:22unique tiebreakers. Now, granted, Miami was the
- 16:24right selection for that conference, don't get me wrong.
- 16:26But Duke, when you have like you, you win the conference and
- 16:31you win like 9 and five. It's just the older I get.
- 16:34I realized it's just so inconsistent with the conference
- 16:37title games, just like just do away with them already.
- 16:41I just say like, look at yeah, but.
- 16:44Every year you have different people on that committee who
- 16:47value different things. It's not the same way across the
- 16:49board that you have. That's the problem.
- 16:53And what I don't like is for college football, eventually, if
- 16:57you keep adding conference champions, saying conference
- 17:00champions get in, you go to top 32 teams, then it's going to
- 17:04turn out like college baseball where you could go to have a
- 17:07losing season when your conference championship and be
- 17:10in the post season. Baseball, though, is different
- 17:13because if you win your conference championship, you're
- 17:16getting hot at the end of the year.
- 17:18Football, I mean, I'm not saying it can happen.
- 17:20I mean anything can happen. I mean, I'm not it'd be
- 17:24logistically hard. You can't have a losing seed
- 17:28your conference championship and think you'd be ranked high
- 17:30enough. But you know, all the time
- 17:33they'll bump these things up and be like, oh, they'll bump it up
- 17:37to 32 teams and be like, oh, let's keep it.
- 17:40Conference championship games help conference champions get an
- 17:44automatic bid. I mean they're just like when
- 17:47you with all the merging of conferences over the last
- 17:49several years and they increase conference in in season
- 17:52conference schedule. I mean you should have plenty of
- 17:55data to use to determine it without actual conference title
- 17:58game. Exactly.
- 18:01So it's like, do you have so much more data now?
- 18:05You have all these conferences that are constantly rearranging,
- 18:08like the SEC just added Texas and Oklahoma conferences
- 18:13struggling to stay afloat because they don't have enough
- 18:15teams in that conference. You know, like I said on one
- 18:20yeah, I was. Going to say, I was going to say
- 18:21real, real quick. I'm I'm going to sum it up real
- 18:23quick. Just when we talk about, you
- 18:27know, just eliminate conference title games itself using the
- 18:30conference title game weekend. Just use that make that awards
- 18:33weekend and that'll be like a bye week for all the 32 team
- 18:36because no need like and I'm and hear me out with this, you know
- 18:41this every every all the 32 teams will play on the same week
- 18:45like Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 18:46So that's a built in buy for every everybody.
- 18:49Round of 32, The top 16 teams that are ranked they they will
- 18:53host home games in their home stadiums.
- 18:56Round of 16 Round the 16, The highest 8 remaining seeds from
- 19:00the first round will host home games in their home stadium.
- 19:03Like I said, nothing like a home playoff game in the college
- 19:07football players. I love what I've seen in the
- 19:08last two years. And then in the quarterfinals,
- 19:11Yeah, go ahead. You do it like that, all that
- 19:15money that is going to be that they would pay for those bowl
- 19:18games and all of that. They're tripling it, maybe
- 19:21quadrupling it, and it's going to the right place.
- 19:24It's going to the concession sale, it's going to the
- 19:28university. That's it and then with and like
- 19:32when you get to the quarterfinals, then you could go
- 19:34to the neutral site. So quarterfinals, so the final,
- 19:38you know, 8 teams, there'll be 4 neutral sites at the iconic
- 19:41bowls, you know, orange, Fiesta, Peach, cotton, semi final be the
- 19:45final four, so Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and then of course the
- 19:48national championship game. And obviously those bowl games
- 19:50were rotating on the regular on a annual basis about which one
- 19:54will be the quarter final, semi final.
- 19:57And you know, and a most important thing is like I put, I
- 20:00like to push everything up because that way in the early
- 20:02part of December, ideally you have the national championship
- 20:05game done by the end of the calendar year or make the
- 20:09national championship game on New Year's Day at the latest.
- 20:12That way you have about a couple weeks to have like the have a
- 20:15couple weeks to like have all the housekeeping stuff done.
- 20:19You know, if I coaching changes, roster changes, that way it
- 20:22won't be done during the middle of the post season, so.
- 20:26Exactly where I was going into this with Let us get rid of the
- 20:31spring football. Yeah.
- 20:34Push it. Push the transfer portal dates
- 20:36back. Yes.
- 20:38Let them finish the season. Let the coaches finish the team
- 20:42with unless they're fired. Let them finish with the teams
- 20:44they started with that they take a new job and I think it was,
- 20:47Saban said start them in the summer and let them do like make
- 20:51it like the NFL where they have summer camp.
- 20:54Basically they start AMP in the summer and they just go
- 20:58throughout the summer and they practice during the summer.
- 21:01That way they have two months to get to know each other, two
- 21:05months to learn. These sit, then start the fall.
- 21:08I'm which totally, I'm $1.00 percent agree you, you got to
- 21:13you, you have to, they have to get out of their own way.
- 21:15That's the bottom line. I mean, it fixes a lot going to
- 21:18an NFL format where the coaches, it's not perfect because it's
- 21:23still college, but it puts an emphasis on fixes all this stuff
- 21:28like Pete Golden calling, who do you call from Clemson, that
- 21:32linebacker. Yeah, I forgot his name, but you
- 21:35know that. That's the whole yeah.
- 21:37Funny how when you spit up, it comes back down because you spit
- 21:40up and said all that about Lane Kiffin with no proof and now
- 21:43they've got text message proof because your coach couldn't keep
- 21:47it in his pants. He had to send text messages and
- 21:49calls and that kid submitted all of that to Sweeney and Clemson
- 21:53and going straight did it. God bless.
- 21:55That's their problem. That's their problem.
- 21:58Good luck. Only how it happens.
- 22:00I love it. Yeah, but you know, you know,
- 22:04moving on kind of standing around with football.
- 22:09I saw some more clips from the Miked Up podcast this week.
- 22:12They were talking about playing a baseball team should play on
- 22:16Tiger Stadium, at Tiger Stadium. That would be interesting.
- 22:22That would be fun. It'll be unique.
- 22:24I mean it just like you already have an iconic stick.
- 22:27Like I remember you send me the I don't know if it's you or my
- 22:29or my Co workers. It's like they send me like the
- 22:32AI version of what Alex box could be like a they have like
- 22:36multiple decks. It's like AI version of the
- 22:39yeah, yeah, it was it was so beautiful.
- 22:42I said this is make it like it's an iconic baseball venue.
- 22:46Just make just deck it out. I mean.
- 22:50You couldn't. It gets loud over there already.
- 22:53Can you imagine if you had that, how hard it would be?
- 22:56The only problem with them playing at Tiger Stadium is I
- 22:59don't think Tiger Stadium. The field is wide enough.
- 23:03I don't think the dimensions add up.
- 23:05You know, you know, that's interesting.
- 23:07I mean, traditionally, I don't know, like many, you know, in,
- 23:11in the, in the, in the pros, like, you know, the San
- 23:13Francisco Giants played in they played at Candlestick Park where
- 23:17the 49ers play, Dolphins play, the Marlins play where the
- 23:19Dolphins played in. But there used to be like some
- 23:23live stadium. But yeah.
- 23:24But I don't think we could logistically take Tiger Stadium
- 23:28apart like that though, you know, because football is just
- 23:32straight up and then baseball starts at the diamond and it
- 23:34just goes out. I don't think it might work, but
- 23:39just dimension wise, I don't think it'll work.
- 23:43But I would love to see that just like they put on they
- 23:46putting on all these concerts. Yeah, I mean, because I also
- 23:50think about like Oakland, the Athletics, you know, they was
- 23:53played, they would play them and the Raiders were sharing the
- 23:56stadium, so like McAfee Stadium. So I mean, they, the, the names
- 24:00changed so much. So bear with me y'all, but just
- 24:03yeah it. It'd be interesting to see at
- 24:05least one like once a year. Yeah, I mean, it would be fun to
- 24:10see him do something different, you know, pulling up the
- 24:15scrimmage stats right now. I like that they just put up six
- 24:19hours ago, the LSU put up the new Intimidator.
- 24:24Yeah, I definitely want to see, I'm trying to like open up the
- 24:26scrimmage, what they have, the scrimmage schedule.
- 24:29Yeah, they are. I think it's through.
- 24:33I pulled up the recruit, but I think that's not where I need to
- 24:36go. Let's see.
- 24:37I think it might be baseball stats, baseball data.
- 24:39I think it's what we need. But here we go.
- 24:42These were stats from the 23rd because I think this is a random
- 24:48dates at random dates. You know Thursday, Friday,
- 24:53right? OK, from the 21st the scrimmage
- 24:59is scrimmage on the 21st we had Seth Dardar.
- 25:02These are the exit velocities. Top Trackman exit velocities.
- 25:06Seth Dardar at one O 8 Cater and BD at one O 5, One O 1.5.
- 25:15Zach you work at one O 1.1. Braden Simpson had the next two
- 25:22at one O 1 and 100.5. John Pearson had 100.4, and
- 25:29Tanneries was 100.3. OK.
- 25:35They have listed here. Seth Dardar went 2 for two with
- 25:39a home run and three RBIs. Chris Stanfield went 2 for two.
- 25:44Jake Brown was one for 2 with a walk and two RBIs, Zach York was
- 25:50one for two with a walk and two RBIs, and Braden Simpson went 2
- 25:53for three. Cooper Moore pitched 4 innings,
- 25:56gave up two hits, zero in runs in five case.
- 26:00Then on the 22nd, we'll just skip the exit.
- 26:04Below's. Not everybody likes that, but
- 26:07that's too much. But the scrim.
- 26:10The top stats from the scrimmage on the 22nd was John Pearson was
- 26:152 for three with a double and two RBIs, Jake Brown was 2 for
- 26:20three with a double and Tanner Reeves was one for three with a
- 26:23home run and one RBI. Marco's pass pitch with a inning
- 26:27and 2/3, one hit, 0 iron runs and five KS.
- 26:31Santiago Garcia would pitch the inning and 2/3.
- 26:36One home run, no iron runs and two KS.
- 26:39One home run, one hit, gave up one hit, no iron runs in two
- 26:45strikeouts. Maverick Rizzy pitched 2 and
- 26:482/3, gave a one hit one iron run in five case.
- 26:52And I'm definitely not reading the exit velocities from the
- 26:5623rd because that was 234567891011121314.
- 27:04But I will say Eddie Yaman had the top exit V low at one O 8.7
- 27:12miles an hour. And then from the 23rd the
- 27:18scrimmage stats. Top stats from the scrimmage was
- 27:21Mason Braun was 3 for four with a walk in RBI.
- 27:27Eddie Yaman was 2 for 3A double. Breeze was 2 for four with RBI.
- 27:31Eric Curiel was one for four with the home run.
- 27:34Zach Yorke was one for four with the home run.
- 27:37Jayden Newt pitched three and a third, gave a one hit, one run
- 27:42and three KS. Dax Death.
- 27:44That's his name. I am in my head listening to
- 27:52Lynn Rollins pronounce these names when he gets when the
- 27:55season starts. That's a lot I got to learn
- 27:58right there. I'm gonna get these names.
- 28:01Anyway, with if I'm mispronouncing, if I'm
- 28:04mispronouncing these names, I'm mispronouncing them.
- 28:08But Jack's death one and 2/3, no hits, no run runs. 2K's DJ
- 28:16Primo, 1 inning pitch, zero hits, zero runs. 2K's Zion,
- 28:22Theopolis, whatever. Theophilus.
- 28:25I would say Theophilus. Theophilus, Yeah.
- 28:29Two innings pitch, zero hits, 0 ONS and 3K's so.
- 28:34What I'm saying is just like standing this, I I didn't want
- 28:37you to be steady as possible. I know scrimmage.
- 28:39So I mean, it's not going to be, it's not going to matter a month
- 28:42from now, but but just like I just want to see steadiness from
- 28:45the guys. It's just prosthetics and when
- 28:48you go through it and you look at it and it's our guys, you
- 28:52know, you look at it and it's our guys versus our guys, you
- 28:56know, And you go ahead and you look at how good they are
- 28:58against everybody else, all this other competition, you know, and
- 29:06they're blowing the competition out the water, you know, the
- 29:10other guys out the water and then their guys come and hit off
- 29:14our pitches. You know, it's good to judge.
- 29:17Like you look back at these early season scrimmages, it's
- 29:20good to judge on what our guys are versus what everybody else
- 29:24does, you know, But I saw earlier this week on the news,
- 29:31they had Jeh Johnson. They were talking to a few of
- 29:34them and Derek Curio said that, Jay said.
- 29:37You know they were taking the target off of their back.
- 29:40Yes, I saw. That and putting a gun in their
- 29:43hand and everybody else is the target and that they're going to
- 29:47work through this season is they're not the targeted ones,
- 29:51they're the hunters. They're not the prey.
- 29:53They're the hunters. They're coming and they're
- 29:55coming for you, you know, and I think that's it.
- 29:59Recipe for success? Well, you you keep the fire on
- 30:01just like because I was I heard that standard clip a few days
- 30:04ago also. So it was just like, you know,
- 30:08you are he had mentioned also coach Johnson, just that your
- 30:12standard is the the standard has been set youth before he got
- 30:15here. So you already have the high
- 30:17expectation and the high demand. So it was just like to, you
- 30:21know, get the guys to control what they could control, but
- 30:24just understand like, you know, process oriented thing.
- 30:27That's that's what's going to drive.
- 30:28Obviously I'm not naive to not having talent, but just keep the
- 30:32process up because we see what, you know, a couple years ago,
- 30:37just like we struggled fielding and like, you know, it's just,
- 30:41you know, not having the routine play.
- 30:43So you keep the, I mean, you can have the time, but just keep the
- 30:46process. Make sure, you know, you keep
- 30:48the fire going. Like you said, it just, you
- 30:50know, change your mind. So, you know, we're still going
- 30:51to attack, you know, because we got a title to the.
- 30:54Yeah, you got to attack. But, and I think I said this a
- 30:59lot last year, you got to set the tone early.
- 31:01You got to have that guy, that Friday night guy that can come
- 31:04in and set the tone for the weekend.
- 31:06And I think you can pick any of those guys that Cowan, Jason
- 31:10Evans, Jason Evans I think is going to be your Friday night
- 31:13guy, you know, pick any of those guys that that we talked about
- 31:17last week, you know that start. And I think any of those guys
- 31:24will set the tone. And then one of our biggest
- 31:28things has always been relief pitching coming in.
- 31:32Relief pitching has to follow that tone that the start of set.
- 31:35You know you can't beat up by 10 runs about to 10 run.
- 31:42Rule somebody and then let them come in and get these cheap hits
- 31:47and work their way back into a game.
- 31:50You have to set the. Tone and keep the Yeah, I mean,
- 31:55you have to set the tone and keep the tone and just keep
- 31:59rolling through it. But it all starts on that Friday
- 32:01night. That Friday night is a must, a
- 32:04must. You must get that win, must set
- 32:06that tone, you know? Just.
- 32:08You got to do it. You got to do it.
- 32:10But I think Jay's got a talented team.
- 32:12I think he'll come out, he'll get them boys ready to play,
- 32:16yeah. I just I just slide out a
- 32:18notification. I should be I totally agree.
- 32:22Like, you know, I've never, you know, I've been fortunate, you
- 32:24know, like even when we was in college, you know, we didn't
- 32:27have the championship to show for like you and I will go all
- 32:30the time. Just we were dominant then.
- 32:33You know, it was just they just didn't put it together.
- 32:35And then the day because we lost in the, we lost in the final the
- 32:41when we was at college. But they have some dominant
- 32:43teams then. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:45If you look at it like I went back around that time, you know
- 32:49how Facebook shows you like your memories and everything from
- 32:53that day when they sport announced that last weekend in
- 32:57March where the conference championships they go and they
- 33:00say, oh, this team is going there.
- 33:02They just do the announcement and stuff from a good the whole
- 33:07time we were in college, for the most part, every time I looked
- 33:09at that, it was top 8 national seed, top 8 national seed, top 8
- 33:13national seed with nothing to show.
- 33:15Yeah, they just couldn't get over.
- 33:17Those teams had the talent. They just couldn't get there and
- 33:21do what they needed to do to. And it's unfortunate, like
- 33:24especially one of the history, yeah, but I mean, it happens.
- 33:27And like I said, you know, hopefully with this new
- 33:29intimidating that I'm looking at it because I just got the
- 33:32notification from Reddit, you know, give us some extra
- 33:34motivation. I just love it man.
- 33:37You look up there. And see eight, I mean, like I
- 33:40said, if you expand, listen, if you expand it to like the triple
- 33:43dead, like the AI picture for the stadium, like you could put
- 33:46it around the stadium, around the deck you look, or better
- 33:49yet, you could name each section of the stadium a year of the
- 33:52championship that they won. I'm in 91, I'm in O9I.
- 33:57Mean you. You can already do that.
- 33:59Yeah, so that's the luxury of having that great program.
- 34:03Oh. Yeah, always luxury.
- 34:08The history alone gets you to that point.
- 34:13But I saw something this week. The CBA is considering making
- 34:17college based, looking at the NFL and the NBA's draft rules,
- 34:21meaning high school players have to go to college, play in
- 34:26college, they can't be drafted out of high school.
- 34:28That happens. Good luck everybody else.
- 34:31Because that's interesting. I mean, because like, you know,
- 34:33you have the baseball, the farm systems.
- 34:36So it's like, yeah, I'd be curious to see how they
- 34:38organize. Well, MLB.
- 34:40Nowadays, if you, yeah, nowadays get to it and you look at
- 34:45college teams and then you look at their farm system and the
- 34:49kids who go to college come up faster than the 1, you know, go
- 34:52straight from high school to the in the draft and go, Most of
- 34:55those kids come up and they're more ready to play.
- 34:57They're developed, you know, and if they're developed, they, they
- 35:01get developed more. They just that, that some of
- 35:05them just need that little shine and they go to college, they get
- 35:07that shine, they get that development, they grow up a
- 35:10little bit and then everything just flows for them.
- 35:12Look at 2 recent guys for LS. I mean, I can't really say Paul
- 35:16Schemes. Paul Schemes came from Air
- 35:17Force, but I mean, look at what he did at LSULSU, polished him
- 35:22as a baseball player. He was already polished as a
- 35:24let's be honest, he's a robot. Yeah, like they just.
- 35:28Took him and oiled him up a little.
- 35:30And then there's a Unicorn. Yeah, set up catch gave him one
- 35:35purpose and he dominated that one purpose and he continues to
- 35:39dominate that one purpose. I don't, I don't know Major
- 35:42League Baseball that much. When's the last time we had a
- 35:46Rookie of the Year in the Cy Young Award winner?
- 35:48The next year? Kind of looked it up.
- 35:51Yeah. I mean, you just look at it and
- 35:53they're polished. I mean, look at Dylan Cruz.
- 35:56Dylan Cruz, another one. And he was ranked high coming
- 35:59out of high school and we got him to campus and he was the
- 36:03number two pick in the draft and he was Golden Spikes Award
- 36:07winner #2 pick in the draft. And then he spends a season and
- 36:121/2 no, I think a season and a half, maybe a season in the
- 36:18minors and they pull him up to MLB.
- 36:21Now this season he got off to a good start.
- 36:24He got no, he got off to a terrible start and started
- 36:28heating up and got injured and had to come back.
- 36:30You know, that's just two recent examples of guys coming to
- 36:35college. One Cruz was an example of for
- 36:40going to draft and coming to college.
- 36:42Yeah, yeah. But to answer your question
- 36:48really quick, you know like Fernando Valenzuela, the only
- 36:53player in him, and I probably mispronounced it.
- 36:55So give me just only play in MLB history to win both Rookie of
- 36:58the Year and Cy Young. And I was back in 1981 with the
- 37:02Dodgers. The Dodgers, it was a strike
- 37:05short season. And, you know, he was like
- 37:07nanomania. Yeah.
- 37:08You got the Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young Award in the
- 37:11same year. Yeah, yeah.
- 37:14So I was the only one. I was the only time I have to
- 37:16where he was Cy Young and Rick of the year.
- 37:18So it was he went thirteen and seven with a 248 ERA and and 11
- 37:22complete games at 8 shutouts. It was a strike sort of season,
- 37:26though. Yeah, short season.
- 37:29Yeah, not quite, Not quite what Skeins did.
- 37:31He did it Rookie of the year one year, then came back and got
- 37:35young but still impressive. Oh, without question.
- 37:38But I really think Skeins has that advantage of where he was a
- 37:41two way player for most of his career, so he wasn't throwing
- 37:46all that junk and all that stuff, destroying his arm like
- 37:49the rest of them. Where for their full careers
- 37:52with extended outings, he would just come in, throw an inning or
- 37:55two and then go back to catching, you know, right.
- 37:58Then he gets to LSU, they make him a sole starter, and he just
- 38:01has that huge jump because he's well rested.
- 38:03He's not catching. He's not doing all those other
- 38:06duties that they do at the service academies either.
- 38:08Yeah. You know, I mean, part of what
- 38:10makes him special, I think, is that military mindset.
- 38:14Yeah, it's privilege to watch him.
- 38:16But enough about the path. They got a brief.
- 38:19But yeah, going back to what you were saying, it is.
- 38:26Yeah, man, I'm with you everywhere.
- 38:27All all that stuff. Yeah, when he was at LSUI, was
- 38:31lucky enough to sit in the Champions Club, right behind the
- 38:34third base dugout for the Tennessee game.
- 38:39And just watching him throw, it's like dead ball.
- 38:43Just was left his hand and then was going right back to him
- 38:47within 5 seconds. Not even 5 seconds, like 2
- 38:49seconds. Yeah.
- 38:51You got anything to close this up?
- 38:53Like I said, brother, listen, appreciate you having me on as
- 38:57always. I would say like we should just
- 38:59go to 32. Just to sum it up real quick, 32
- 39:01teams are nothing. Likewise, 32 teams are nothing
- 39:05and I'm like, sorry for this season.
- 39:07We listen, you know, ready get to that baseball shout out to
- 39:10wheels like the the the YouTube channel with the the highlights,
- 39:15major shout out and black canvas tease.
- 39:18Yeah. Blake Havestis.
- 39:19Yep. All right, let's see if I got a
- 39:21quote for everybody today. I didn't quite look one up, so I
- 39:24don't have a quote for today, but I'll just say this.
- 39:27I don't have a quote for today. I ain't got nothing for
- 39:29everybody today. Lizzie, you.
- 39:31You have we have quotable stuff and the minutes we recorded by
- 39:34the we good. Yep.
- 39:37All right, we'll just leave it with all.
- 39:39I'm still pushing the school account.
- 39:41Yes. I'll have the link tree posted
- 39:45with the description. It'll have all my socials on it,
- 39:48YouTube, the Twitter, the Facebook page, school account,
- 39:52Spotify, Apple podcast. It'll have everything on there
- 39:55always. Everybody have a great day, a
- 39:57great night. Whatever you have, have a great

- 40:08That'll do it for us. See y'all later.
- 40:10Later.
