- 2:13We want more than life itself. Thank you for the daily bread,
- 2:20Lord. Thank you for saving us, Lord.
- 2:26Thank you for rescuing us from ourselves.
- 2:30Thank you for taking off the spiritual blinders.
- 2:35Thank you for unstopping our ears and losing our tongue.
- 2:39God, I pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ that somebody
- 2:47will get saved today, that somebody will finally see their
- 2:51need for repentance today. We love you, King Jesus, this in
- 2:58your holy and precious and powerful merciful righteous name
- 3:03that I pray men. Well, let's start in verse one
- 3:10for this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High
- 3:16God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings
- 3:20and blessed him. We've been talking about this
- 3:23Melchizedek for just a moment here, and we see him show up in
- 3:28Genesis 14, and then we see him show up again in Psalms chapter
- 3:33110. And now here he is multiple
- 3:37times throughout the book of Hebrews, and the writer of
- 3:40Hebrews speaks of him as if we should already know who he is.
- 3:44And we're going to start chomping down on this T-bone
- 3:48steak here, friends. But you need to know that
- 3:53Melchizedek there is a division of who he possibly could have
- 3:59been or is. But the hinge point, friends, is
- 4:04that he has no beginning or end, no mother or father, no end of
- 4:09days. It could not be anyone but a
- 4:13preincarnate Christ showing up on the scene.
- 4:17And imagine God securing this Jerusalem, this literal
- 4:22geographical piece of land on planet earth that he knows Jesus
- 4:27is going to rule and reign from. He secures it all the way back
- 4:34before he even calls Abraham. What a thought, friends.
- 4:39This place of peace, this Shalom, Shalom, this Salem, this
- 4:44Zion, they're all synonymous, friends.
- 4:47And that is what you need to understand is God is not
- 4:50limited. It is our intellect, it is our
- 4:53understanding. It is us who struggle with these
- 4:58concepts. But God is the alpha and the
- 5:01Omega. He's the beginning and the end,
- 5:04and he can do whatever He pleases.
- 5:08We see Abraham meeting him and we see this breaking of bread
- 5:14and this spilling of wine, friends, which is the Lord's
- 5:18Supper. All the way back where Abraham
- 5:21is meeting Melchizedek, we see the Lord's Supper instituted.
- 5:26What an amazing thought back in Genesis 14.
- 5:29You see bread and wine represented there in that
- 5:32interaction. And this is the infinite wisdom
- 5:38of God Almighty. And we see that this
- 5:43Melchizedek, like Christ, is Christ, that he is a king and a
- 5:49priest. And that was not allowed in the
- 5:52order of Aaron. With the high priest of Aaron,
- 5:55they had to offer their own sacrifices for their own sin,
- 5:59and the high priest was guilty. But this order of Melchizedek,
- 6:06this is unique in the sense that there was no need for the high
- 6:11priest to offer any sacrifices for his own sins because he is
- 6:17perfect and blameless and innocent, and there was only one
- 6:21who fits that bill and it is Christ Jesus.
- 6:25It is very similar to when you're in church and the pastor
- 6:29says or ask a question and the answer is always Jesus verse 2,
- 6:38to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being
- 6:43by interpretation king of righteousness, and after that
- 6:47also king of Salem, which is king of peace.
- 6:51He is the king of kings and the Lord of Lords.
- 6:54He's the king of righteousness. He's the king of peace.
- 6:57I wonder and do you know Him? You can see that Abraham felt
- 7:03that it was necessary to give a 10th, which is what tithe means,
- 7:09friends, that Abraham felt it necessary to give a tenth of all
- 7:13the spoil right off the top. He didn't give them the
- 7:16leftovers, friends. And that is a call for us to
- 7:20give to the Lord God our best from the top, not wait until the
- 7:26end of our check to give to the church.
- 7:32We should be givers because God is the best giver.
- 7:35And He gave 1st. And here Abraham understood
- 7:39that. And here we can see that this
- 7:43Melchizedek did not refuse the 10th, he accepted it.
- 7:52So this is a clear picture of divinity and and eternal.
- 8:01And you can see that Abraham he saw and recognized that this
- 8:07Melchizedek was greater than himself. 3 Without father and
- 8:14without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days
- 8:19nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God, abides a
- 8:24priest continuously. He still abides today as a
- 8:28priest continuously. He's the King of kings, friends,
- 8:32and he is our High Priest to the utmost.
- 8:37He's all the way at the end. He's the beginning and the end.
- 8:41He's the Alpha and the Omega. There is no end to his High
- 8:45priest Hood. Every other High priest in the
- 8:50order of Aaron died, but this high priest is eternal.
- 8:57Praise God, we love you Jesus. For now consider how great this
- 9:02man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the 10th
- 9:08of the spoils. So here we can see that Jesus
- 9:13the man entered into heaven, the first born friends, and all of
- 9:21it was foreshadowed all the way back whenever Abraham is leaving
- 9:30the war and sees this high priest and gives him a tenth to
- 9:35this man, Jesus five. And truly they that are of the
- 9:42sons of Levi who received the office of the priesthood, have a
- 9:46commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law,
- 9:51that is of their brothers, though they come out of the
- 9:55loins of Abraham. So imagine that even though
- 9:59Abraham had already given the 10th to Christ Jesus
- 10:04preincarnate, now even the seeds of Abraham are commanded to
- 10:10receive a 10th from all of the tribes of Israel.
- 10:16And the writer of Hebrews here is going to knit together one of
- 10:19the most beautiful tapestries of how the tithe works and what is
- 10:24accepted to God and what we are to do.
- 10:29And you can see it here. 6 But he whose descent is not counted
- 10:37from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that
- 10:42had the promises. So Abraham was given the
- 10:45promises that he would have more descendants than the stars in
- 10:51the sky. And here we can see that
- 10:55Melchizedek had blessed him, and we can see that Abraham was the
- 11:02lesser of the two, and that the greater was the one that
- 11:06received the blessing. 7 And without all contradiction, the
- 11:15less is blessed of the better. So there it is.
- 11:20You can see that Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek and it
- 11:26was secure and it was sure that all the promises of God would
- 11:32actually happen, just the way that he told Abraham that he
- 11:36would when he called him out of the land of the Chaldeans and
- 11:41told him that he was going to make him a great nation, even
- 11:44though he was fatherless. And this Melchizedek actually
- 11:49blessed him, and it is without all contradiction. 8 And here
- 11:55men that die receive tithes, but there he received them, of whom
- 12:00it is witness that he lives. Because he lives, we can face
- 12:05tomorrow, Friends. Because he lives, we can know
- 12:10that we know that. We know that when we die, we're
- 12:12going to be with him forever more.
- 12:14Because the same resurrection power that raised Jesus Christ
- 12:18from the dead lives in us. Because he lives, friends.
- 12:22All of the high priests in the order of Aaron all died.
- 12:27But this high priest lives forever more.
- 12:30Hey, there is no end of days for Christ Jesus.
- 12:34He is the man God. He is the God man, and we are
- 12:40forever blessed, and we praise his holy name. 9 And as I may
- 12:49say so, Levi also who received tithes, paid tithes in Abraham.
- 12:55So this is a very interesting little nugget that Levi was not
- 13:02commanded to pay the tithes, and the writer of Hebrews points out
- 13:08it is because he had already paid the tithes.
- 13:11So the very one that was receiving the tithes and wasn't
- 13:16commanded to actually give tithes is the same one who gave
- 13:22tithes to Melchizedek. What an interesting thought,
- 13:25friends. 10 For he was yet in the loins of his father when
- 13:30Melchizedek met him. So Abraham had already paid the
- 13:34tithe for the tribe of Levi, and now the tribe of Levi was not
- 13:40commanded to give of the tithe. What an amazing thought. 11 If
- 13:46therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for under
- 13:51it the people received the law, what further need was there that
- 13:56another priest shouldn't rise after the order of Melchizedek
- 14:00and not be called after the order of Iran?
- 14:04So you can see that because the ironic priesthood made nothing
- 14:08perfect friends, all of the law was given in order for us to
- 14:15recognize and to realize our need for Christ Jesus.
- 14:20And this order of Melchizedek is perfect friends.
- 14:24Whereas you can see that the line of Aaron there was sins
- 14:29that were still being committed, and we were desperately in need
- 14:35of someone that could fulfill all the law, not abolish it, but
- 14:40to fulfill it. 12 For the priesthood being changed there
- 14:47is made of necessity a change also of the law. 13 For he of
- 14:54whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of
- 14:58which no man gave attendance at the altar, this line of Judah,
- 15:03that Jesus Christ came through. And that is why the Jews would
- 15:08have had such a hard time accepting Jesus Christ as the
- 15:13Messiah, because he was not the high priest in the order of
- 15:18Aaron. But they missed Psalms 110
- 15:21written by David, and they missed Genesis 14 written by
- 15:25Moses, which talked about the high priesthood of Melchizedek
- 15:31and the line that Jesus Christ would represent because He is
- 15:36the fulfillment of it all. And the Aaronic High Priesthood
- 15:41was only there to show them their need for Christ Jesus and
- 15:46that they could never ever fulfill all of the things that
- 15:50were required of them because of the sin nature that you and I
- 15:54have. And they tried to create all of
- 15:57these bumper regulations to protect them from ever offending
- 16:03and violating the inner commandments, and it never
- 16:08worked. And if you had broke one law,
- 16:11you were guilty of the entirety of it.
- 16:16You know there was only one found worthy to open the scroll.
- 16:2413 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another
- 16:28tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 14 For
- 16:33it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Judah, of which
- 16:38tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.
- 16:43And you can see that the Jews of that time, not only were they
- 16:46offended that Jesus came from Nazareth because they said
- 16:51nothing good comes from Nazareth, and that he wasn't
- 16:56part of the Sanhedrin, He wasn't part of the Pharisees or the
- 17:00Sadducees, that he was a rogue St.
- 17:03Preacher, the son of a Carpenter, and he was not from
- 17:07the ironic line of the high priests.
- 17:11So here you can see this tribe of Judah and you can see that
- 17:16Jesus Christ is fulfilling the entire law, and he's coming by
- 17:23way of the high priesthood of Melchizedek. 15 And it is yet
- 17:32far more evident for that after the similitude of Melchizedek
- 17:38there arises another priest, 16 who is made not after the law of
- 17:44a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
- 17:48Imagine that here is this Melchizedek, no beginning and no
- 17:52end, and he is higher and better than all of the high priest
- 18:00through the line of Aaron, and that is why they missed it.
- 18:03But the writer of Hebrews told us we were about to munch down
- 18:08on AT bone steak, that we could not just stay on the milk,
- 18:12friends. And here we are trying to digest
- 18:15so much truth. 17 For he testifies, you are a priest
- 18:26forever after the order of Melchizedek.
- 18:29That's God Almighty, that is Yahweh speaking to Jesus Christ
- 18:35friends, and that is how the high priest was instituted.
- 18:40God had to institute who was the high priest.
- 18:43It was not something that man could decide who was going to be
- 18:4818 for. There is truly a dis annulling
- 18:52of the commandment going before for the weakness and the
- 18:57unprofitableness of it. So we can see that the entire
- 19:03law given by Moses was to point us towards Jesus Christ. 19 For
- 19:09the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better
- 19:14hope did by the which we draw near unto God.
- 19:20The only way that we can be at one with God is by the shedding
- 19:24of Jesus's innocent blood, and by us being covered by his
- 19:29blood. Friends, from the top of our
- 19:31head to the soles of our feet, we enter in and we draw near
- 19:37unto a holy God, and we are not consumed because of Jesus Christ
- 19:44perfection and His Holiness. We can draw near unto God by
- 19:52Jesus Christ and Jesus alone. There is no way to the Father
- 19:56except through Jesus. He is the way, He is the truth,
- 20:01and He is the life. 20 and in as much as not without an oath.
- 20:09He was made priest. 21 For those priests were made without an
- 20:14oath, but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord
- 20:20swore, and will not repent. You are a priest forever after
- 20:25the order of Melchizedek. 22 By so much was Jesus made a surety
- 20:32of a better testament. So they were still stuck back
- 20:37there in the New Testament, friends, and they were looking
- 20:40for this king to come on the scene and to overthrow the Roman
- 20:46government so that they could have their autonomy there in the
- 20:50land. But they missed the fact that
- 20:53Jesus Christ was coming and He was about to set up a different
- 20:57dispensation other than the law. He was about to set up the
- 21:03dispensation of grace. Friends, there is no other way
- 21:08to read the Bible than to see that the dispensations are built
- 21:14in. You cannot read the Bible
- 21:17honestly without any bias and you cannot reach another thought
- 21:24process or agreement then that God did away with the law and He
- 21:29has brought in grace. And we are waiting for the
- 21:33millennial friends. And that is how we read the
- 21:38Bible is literally. And we can see that God is
- 21:42dealing with the church and with Israel differently today.
- 21:47And the church has not absorbed Israel and we are not the new
- 21:51Israel as some are in the habit of propagating.
- 21:55They've missed the mark. They've been fed the lie.
- 21:58Friends, we must read the Bible for ourselves.
- 22:01And don't take my word for it, but actually get your nose in
- 22:08the book. Read it friends, Read it and you
- 22:11come up with what the Holy Spirit tells you and you will
- 22:16see that according to Romans Chapter 11, that God has an
- 22:22ultimate plan to bring Israel in to the fold.
- 22:26And they must come through the same way that you, in the same
- 22:29way that I had to get in, which was through Christ Jesus.
- 22:35And that's the purpose of the seven-year tribulation, this
- 22:43better Testament. 23 And they truly were many priests because
- 22:50they were not suffered to continue by reason of death.
- 22:54They were just men. But this order of Melchizedek is
- 22:57based upon an eternity. Is it based upon divinity?
- 23:02It is based upon Jesus Christ living forever.
- 23:07No beginning and no end. And the only bill that fits is
- 23:13Christ Jesus 24 But this man, because he continues ever has an
- 23:24unchangeable priesthood. Jesus Christ continues forever.
- 23:28The God man in heaven, Christ Jesus, forever and ever, and
- 23:34ever and ever, we will be singing his praises. 25
- 23:40Wherefore he is able also to save them to the utter most that
- 23:45come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession
- 23:51for them. He can save to the utmost.
- 23:54Friends, His arm is not too short to save, and He can save
- 23:58anybody, no matter how lost, no matter how deplorable, no matter
- 24:02how disgusting, no matter how many sins they have heaped up to
- 24:06the heavens. Friends, he can save to the
- 24:09utmost. No one is outside of his reach.
- 24:12If there is breath in your lungs today, it's not too late.
- 24:16Your fate is not sealed until you take your last breath.
- 24:22He can save anyone if we will come through him to God Almighty
- 24:32and he lives now to make intercession for us friends, and
- 24:38when we stand before a holy and almighty God, he says this one
- 24:44is mine. 26 For such a high priest became US, who is holy,
- 24:51harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher
- 24:56than the heavens. Jesus Christ, He is separate.
- 24:59Jesus Christ is not a Sinner. Jesus Christ is perfect in all
- 25:05of his ways, holy and blameless, friends, and that is the only
- 25:10way that we can get there is by what He did, not by what we do.
- 25:15It is not by works that any man is saved, and he is made higher
- 25:23than the heavens. 27 Who needs not daily as those high priests
- 25:30to OfferUp sacrifice first for his own sins, and then for the
- 25:34peoples? For this he did once when he
- 25:38offered up himself on the cross, friends, when he offered himself
- 25:43up, and he died on a criminal's cross.
- 25:46This perfect and innocent man who had done nothing wrong, died
- 25:52on a criminal's cross for you and for me.
- 25:56He died so that we could live forever and ever in the presence
- 26:01of God Almighty. We'll end on 28 For the law
- 26:07makes men high priests, which have infirmity, but the word of
- 26:12the oath, which was since the law makes the Son who is
- 26:17consecrated forever more, the line of Aaron can't touch the
- 26:24line of Melchizedek. The line of Aaron was flawed and
- 26:28full of sinful men who had to make sacrifices for their own
- 26:33sins before they could ever even sacrifice for the people.
- 26:37And if the high priest didn't do every single little thing right
- 26:42when he went into the holiest of holy places, he would be struck
- 26:45down and killed. But now we see that Jesus Christ
- 26:53is the perfection of all the requirements, friends.
- 26:58And it was not that there was something wrong with the law.
- 27:03It was that there is something innately wrong with you and with
- 27:07me. We could never fulfill the
- 27:09requirements. So He did for us, and we are
- 27:13forever grateful and thankful for what Jesus Christ did for
- 27:19us. What an amazing chapter in God's
- 27:21Word. I hope you've been blessed by
- 27:24it. I know I sure have.
- 27:35I love you. Praying for you.
- 27:43We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 27:45God bless you.
