- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hi team, Hope you had an awesome weekend today.
- 0:25In this episode, we're going to continue to talk about the
- 0:27people in your life and who you surround yourself with.
- 0:30I'm in a mastermind group with about six other people.
- 0:34I've been in the group for about a year now, and I made the
- 0:37decision and the investment to be in a mastermind because I
- 0:40wanted to be surrounded with people who were smarter and
- 0:44higher thinking than I was. I wanted to be pushed and
- 0:47challenged to elevate my business and I wanted a mentor
- 0:51and a coach who walked the walk and had been in the trenches and
- 0:57built his way out of the trenches.
- 0:59And my coach specializes in speaking and building the
- 1:01business of speaking and coaching.
- 1:04And it's been an just an absolute joy to work with him
- 1:08and my fellow colleagues in the group.
- 1:10They're from all over the country.
- 1:12We get the opportunity to meet three to four times a year in
- 1:15person, as well as have bimonthly meetings to check in
- 1:21on each other and report our progress and celebrate each
- 1:24other's wins, etcetera. And I've been thinking a lot
- 1:27about what this group has brought to my life as we just
- 1:31had our one year anniversary of being in the mastermind.
- 1:35And I know that masterminds aren't for everybody.
- 1:37I know some of you are like, what the hell is a mastermind?
- 1:41I know that not everybody has the need or the desire to be in
- 1:43one. But I want to talk about this
- 1:46because what strikes me is we all have our own masterminds in
- 1:50our life in a sense, a group of people that we surround
- 1:54ourselves with that influence us and impact our well-being, our
- 1:59progress, our ideas, just our way of living.
- 2:03We are a product of our environment and the people that
- 2:06we hang out with, that we talk to everyday, that we call text,
- 2:11share our dreams and our goals with.
- 2:13I mean, think about the five to 10 people in your life who you
- 2:18see the most, interact with the most.
- 2:21Who do you go to coffee with? Who do you travel with?
- 2:24Who do you call when you have an idea or a problem that you want
- 2:28to talk through? We all have our own mastermind
- 2:32in a sense. We just might not have
- 2:34consciously chosen it. And for the mastermind I've
- 2:38chosen, it strikes me again how many lessons there have been for
- 2:42me and how much I've observed in this group.
- 2:44That applies to real life, day-to-day in the trenches,
- 2:50normal living. And I want to share a few of
- 2:52those ideas with you, especially right now when we're in a season
- 2:56where things start to ramp up for people.
- 2:58We have the holidays coming, our social calendars get really
- 3:02busy. And oftentimes we can de
- 3:05prioritize ourselves and the things that keep us well, like
- 3:09our good habits, our exercise, our nutrition, sleep, healthy
- 3:13boundaries. I mean, the list can really go
- 3:16on and on for miles. Not surprisingly, a lot of these
- 3:21lessons that I want to talk about today, they overlap with
- 3:23the things that we've talked about on this podcast.
- 3:26Topics and episodes that are really powerful for people are
- 3:32well and alive in these lessons and observations that I've seen
- 3:36within my own mastermind group. So I want to share a few of them
- 3:40with you. Let's talk about 5 different
- 3:42ideas. The first idea is they're all
- 3:45seeking to improve. Every single person in my group
- 3:49is trying to better themselves, and not just in a business
- 3:52sense, although they are all growing their own businesses and
- 3:55striving to be and have the best business they can.
- 3:59But ultimately they're all just trying to be better people.
- 4:03They love learning. They're all striving to do
- 4:05things that push themselves out of their comfort zones.
- 4:08I mean, OK, one of the members, she's ex military this summer,
- 4:13she just completed the Bad Water Ultra Marathon.
- 4:17And if you've never heard of this race, it's a race in
- 4:20freaking Death Valley. And it's 135 miles.
- 4:25And it starts at what they call the Bad Water Basin.
- 4:28And it goes up to the trailhead to Mount Whitney, which is one
- 4:32of the tallest peaks in the western United States.
- 4:35It is absolutely insane running in the heat of the freaking
- 4:39desert. Another woman in my group just
- 4:41finished writing her book about the MR340, which is a 340 mile
- 4:47long kayak race that you do solo.
- 4:50It's that long. It's some ridiculous crazy
- 4:54kayaking situation with crazy water obstacles and just
- 4:59unprecedented terrain. And she completed the race and
- 5:02then wrote a book about it. And these examples are not about
- 5:06trying to be the best athletes in the world.
- 5:08They just want to challenge themselves and better
- 5:11themselves. So they take on big challenges.
- 5:14And it's awesome and inspiring and it makes me want to be a
- 5:19better person and a better version of myself.
- 5:22I mean, you should have seen us when our colleague Delicia
- 5:26showed up and she is telling us about the bran and how difficult
- 5:32it was and what happened in the heat of the day and her support
- 5:36van and just all, it's fascinating to hear how somebody
- 5:40could push themselves through this.
- 5:41Who's so cool? And I wonder who is that in your
- 5:44life? Who is somebody who just wants
- 5:47to better themselves and is constantly pushing themselves
- 5:51out of their comfort zone or trying to get just a little bit
- 5:55better every single day? The second idea is they're
- 5:59always trying to be of service to people.
- 6:02So many of our discussions that happen in the bimonthly morning
- 6:06meetings are about, OK team, how can we make this offering for
- 6:10this product better so it serves people better?
- 6:14It's how can we provide true value to people, whether it's in
- 6:18speaking or coaching or product creation.
- 6:20And I think that that takes things to a whole different
- 6:23level. It taps into a different level
- 6:26of creativity and possibility. There's no bad ideas in that
- 6:31group because everybody's drawing from their own personal
- 6:34experiences in their own walks of life.
- 6:36We're all so different and we all truly want to help improve
- 6:41whatever it is that we're talking about.
- 6:44The other badass thing about it is that these guys just aren't
- 6:47afraid to ask for help. So if they don't know how to do
- 6:50something or they don't know the answer, they just ask somebody
- 6:54or they ask somebody to connect them to somebody else who can
- 6:58help them do it. There's no getting lost in the
- 7:00minutiae or the weeds because that just slows them down.
- 7:04And these projects are way too important to them.
- 7:07I think they're so important to them because it's not just about
- 7:12them, it's about something bigger.
- 7:15And that gives you a willingness to step outside of your comfort
- 7:19zone so you can get to a solution faster.
- 7:22I freaking love that. I love asking the question, how
- 7:25can I make this bigger than myself so I can get out of my
- 7:28own way and think about no, there's an urgency here for me
- 7:33to share my gifts or to put this thing out into the world because
- 7:36people need help. That changes the whole entire
- 7:39perspective on everything. And I'm wondering, do you have
- 7:43someone like that in your life? Someone who's always trying to
- 7:45serve other people or causes Someone who doesn't get afraid
- 7:50of asking for help because they're so laser focused on a
- 7:53goal that's much bigger than them.
- 7:58The third idea is these guys set boundaries and they they know
- 8:02they're worth. One of our gatherings last May,
- 8:06we were all going out to eat for lunch during one of our long
- 8:09days. It was like business breakdown
- 8:11day and one of the guys was noticing that a lot of us were
- 8:15talking about nutrition and looking over the menu and trying
- 8:18to figure out what some of the healthier choices would be.
- 8:21And it started this discussion about some of the non
- 8:25negotiables in our life. And for many of us around the
- 8:28table, exercise and nutrition are non negotiable.
- 8:31A lot of people track their macros.
- 8:33Everybody has a sort of a regular exercise routine.
- 8:36There are a lot of things that we're all really boundaried
- 8:40around because we know that those habits help us have great
- 8:45energy and be at our best. And this guy admitted to us at
- 8:48the time that he hadn't been protecting his boundaries around
- 8:52his nutrition or his workouts. They've been getting de
- 8:55prioritized by other things in his life, and rightfully so.
- 8:59He's a busy guy. He's got a lot of irons in the
- 9:02fire. He's creating a lot of great
- 9:04stuff for people. And it makes sense.
- 9:07But we talked a lot about some simple things he could do to
- 9:10create some changes. And in September, we all met
- 9:14again and he came back to us and he said, guys, I've lost over 30
- 9:18lbs. Over the summer.
- 9:21He really started creating boundaries around that stuff for
- 9:24himself and knowing that he had to show up so that he could have
- 9:29great energy and deliver at his speaking gigs and with his
- 9:32coaching clients and be able to create all those crazy awesome
- 9:35products that he puts out in the world.
- 9:37And in the background for all of this is the conversation that
- 9:42simply goes like this. You're worth it.
- 9:46You are worth every minute of sacrifice, of exercise, of
- 9:50thinking about nutrition, of doing those daily habits, of
- 9:54planning for them. You are worth the energy so you
- 9:58can consistently stand in front of people and share your gifts,
- 10:03which are incredibly valuable. These guys have boundaries
- 10:06around their calendars, how much time they spend on things, how
- 10:10they time block for different things in their day, what they
- 10:13do consistently every single week, the time they devote to
- 10:16family or friends, and every single meeting we have, somebody
- 10:21is saying something like this to another member.
- 10:25You're worth more than that. I can't even tell you how many
- 10:29times I've heard that phrase. You're worth more than that.
- 10:32They do not default from that. They do not let somebody say,
- 10:39oh, I'm going to under charge here or I'm going to maybe I'm
- 10:42just, maybe I'll just do this here.
- 10:44And they're like, no, no, no, you're worth more than that.
- 10:46And in a society where so many people are looking to devalue
- 10:50other people or services or businesses, this is gold.
- 10:55This is a lifeline. And so in your life, who is
- 10:59fantastic at setting boundaries? Who in your life knows they're
- 11:03worth and refuses to compromise on that worth in your own life's
- 11:08mastermind? 4th idea is these guys, they
- 11:13take action fast. Remember we talked about the
- 11:17concept of shortening the time that you take between the big
- 11:21idea you have and the action that's required.
- 11:24That's how we get fast results. We shorten the time between idea
- 11:27and action and that's what gets us true transformation.
- 11:31And that's what these guys do, team.
- 11:32I remember recently my coach challenged one of the guys, Ed,
- 11:37to write a book. He said to him, it doesn't have
- 11:39to be the book like your life's workbook.
- 11:43Just get your first book out there about something that you
- 11:46care about. And my colleague really took
- 11:48that to heart. And within a few months, I mean,
- 11:51he's well into this writing process and starting to talk
- 11:56about putting the finishing touches on it, getting those
- 11:59final chapters. These people are fast movers.
- 12:03And here's the truth. They all struggle with the same
- 12:06limiting beliefs and saboteurs that that everyone else does
- 12:09that you and I do. We talk about them in the
- 12:11meetings. We talk about how Ed had to get
- 12:14out of his own way and just write the damn thing.
- 12:17And because we have this really safe, open space where we can be
- 12:20honest with each other, Ed could receive that feedback and
- 12:24encouragement and really get started and get out of his own
- 12:26way. So my question is, what person
- 12:29in your crew, in your life's mastermind makes things happen
- 12:32quickly? Which one is the person who
- 12:35doesn't hem and Haw and wait for things to happen, but they just
- 12:38get going and get into action as fast as they can?
- 12:43The 5th and final idea is that these people lift each other up
- 12:48and this has to be hands down. One of my favorite parts about
- 12:54being in this mastermind is that we all cheer each other on so
- 12:57much. I have no reservations about
- 13:01writing on the group Slack channel.
- 13:04Something that I want to celebrate with the group,
- 13:05something that I did for the first time, or a client that I
- 13:08landed, or a speaking gig that I got contracted to do.
- 13:11These guys are at the ready to respond right away, cheering me
- 13:16on, celebrating me, and it's just the culture that we do that
- 13:20for every other person in our group.
- 13:23Do you know how freaking good that feels?
- 13:25There's no worry about coming off as bragging or lacking
- 13:29humility because that's not what it's about.
- 13:32We know that we're all striving for similar things and there's
- 13:34no ego involved. We all do such different stuff
- 13:39and there's so much room for everyone.
- 13:41It's just nice to have a group of people who want you to win.
- 13:47So the question for you is, who is your cheerleader?
- 13:51Who is someone in your life who doesn't just not discourage you,
- 13:54but actively encourages you? They pump you up.
- 13:58They're like your hype person. Who is that?
- 14:02The reason I wanted to talk about this on the podcast is
- 14:05because I think if all of us could live in these five realms
- 14:09a little more powerfully, our lives would look a lot
- 14:12different. I mean, well, the last episode
- 14:16in this podcast was about surrounding yourself with people
- 14:18who want to see you win, other people who lift you up and cheer
- 14:22you on. Just like that last idea.
- 14:24That one on its own could change so many people's lives if they
- 14:27felt like they were surrounded by people who could really
- 14:29encourage them rather than discourage them in one way or
- 14:32another. It would certainly change the
- 14:37impact that we would have in our lives.
- 14:41It's the impact that these folks have on me that's so tremendous
- 14:45and they don't even know it. And then it's also the impact
- 14:48that I'm then able to go out into the world and have as a
- 14:51result of my interactions with them.
- 14:53It is this awesome positive upward spiral of energy.
- 14:59It becomes exponential, and it has tremendous ripple effects
- 15:02that just reach so many areas of the world that we don't even
- 15:06know. And it's exciting to be around
- 15:09people who care about things. They care about themselves and
- 15:13their worth deeply. But beyond that, they care so
- 15:16much about the people they serve and their relationships and the
- 15:20greater world at large. They just care so damn much.
- 15:24And I want that for you. I want you to have your own
- 15:27group of people who live by these similar rules.
- 15:31I want you to find your crowd and be able to look around and
- 15:35say these people make me better. And I want you to be the
- 15:38designer of your life's mastermind.
- 15:41So start paying attention and purposely orchestrating it.
- 15:46It's absolutely possible for you to do that and you'll be amazed
- 15:50at the momentum you get just with a few tweaks and the people
- 15:54you're surrounded by. So I hope this helps.
- 15:58I hope that as you go into this next season, you approach it
- 16:01with peace and excitement and joy, and you start to look for
- 16:06the people who look at it the same way.
- 16:09Hope you have a fantastic week. I love that you guys are here.
- 16:13Thanks for listening and as always, thank you for being
- 16:16ready to Impact. Thanks for listening to Impact
- 16:19Ready. I hope today's episode inspired
- 16:21you to own your impact and recognize that you are powerful.
- 16:25By elevating our energy and awareness, we can create
- 16:28exponential change in this life. If you enjoyed today's insights,
- 16:31share them with a friend and subscribe to the show for more.
