Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Hello, Christians.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is Dallas Beacham, and I have good news.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: The tomb was empty.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jesus had risen from the dead.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: For forty days he showed himself alive to his disciples by many infallible proofs.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: They saw him, they heard him, they ate with him.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: There could be no doubt death had no control over him.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Surely now was the time to hurry into every city and tell the world.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: But Jesus said wait, and being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith he, you have heard of me.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: They had the greatest news ever told, but they were not yet ready to carry it.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Acknowledge alone was not enough.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Courage alone was not enough.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Human ability was not enough.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Jesus continued, for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: There it was again, the promise spoken by Joel, announced by John and explained by Jesus.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Then Jesus told them what the Holy Ghost would do, but you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you, and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: This power was not given so men could boast.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: It was power to be witnesses, power to speak the truth, power to endure opposition, power to live a changed life, power to take the good news beyond every boundary.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: This power was also given with our resurrection in view.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Paul wrote, But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in you.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Romans eight and eleven.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: The same spirit by which God raised Jesus from the dead now dwells in his people and carries with it the promise that our mortal bodies will also be made alive.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: After Jesus was taken up, the disciples returned to Jerusalem.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: About a hundred and twenty gathered in an upper room.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: What did they do while they waited?
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: They did not set a date, they did not manufacture an experience, they did not replace the promise with the ceremony of their own.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: They prayed.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: They remained together.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: They waited upon God.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Waiting is not always easy.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: We like immediate answers.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: We want the door to open today.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: We want every question settled now.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: But sometimes faith means obeying the last instruction God gave while trusting him for what comes next.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: The disciples could have reasoned.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: We already believe.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: We have already followed Jesus.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: We have already seen the resurrection.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: All of that was true.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Yet Jesus still said, wait for the promise.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: There is a lesson here for us.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: We should never let past experiences, religious traditions, or human explanation stop us from what God has promised in His Word.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: If God says pray, we should pray.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: If God says wait, we should wait.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: If God says the gift is for those who believe, then we should believe.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: The one hundred and twenty did not know exactly what the morning would bring.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Outside their room, Jerusalem was busy with pilgrims who did come for the feast of Pentecost.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Many languages filled the streets, nations were gathering, and in God's wisdom the stage was being set.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: The promise was not late.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: The disciples were not forgotten.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Heaven was about to answer.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow we will enter the upper room and hear a sound that would mark the beginning of the church's worldwide witness.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I hope today's message has touched your heart and causes you to have a good day.
