- 0:00Hi, everybody, and welcome aboard. It is the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches
- 0:03Show, first of three consecutive Friday nights with the Hall of Fame head coach
- 0:08of the Huskies back from the Cayman Islands. And as we speak full disclosure,
- 0:13it's about one o'clock and I'm sure we'll know a little more information shortly,
- 0:18but you know, as he's had her surgery today and from everything it
- 0:21sounds like things are going well with an eye repair, correct, Yeah,
- 0:27yeah, you know, there were obviously previous injuries that you know, impact
- 0:40the knee, and you know from the reports that preliminary reports I've gotten from
- 0:47the doctors is that everything went great. Denia strong and stable and she should
- 0:57make a complete, one full recover. So we'll know more once. You
- 1:02know, obviously easy comes out of you know, out of the surgery completely.
- 1:10Okay, good news there. Before we get into before we get into
- 1:14hoops, you had some downtime in the Caymans. Did you and the missus
- 1:19do anything fun other than just hang around the beach and deal with basketball while
- 1:22you were there? Well, right or wrong, there wasn't a whole lot
- 1:30of fun being had, you know, except for uh, some walks on
- 1:38the beach and taking it, you know, just taking some time out to
- 1:45just maybe get an hour or two away from from your normal routine and enjoy.
- 1:53It's amazing. It's amazing place. I've never been there before, and
- 1:59it's yeah, I mean, I'm glad we went, and I'm glad that
- 2:04the players had a chance to spend some time down there. And other than
- 2:09that, it was another business trip right where the Huskies did go one of
- 2:15two, losing to a good UCLA team that made twelve threes, and three
- 2:19of those twelve came from young ladies who hadn't made a three all season in
- 2:23the early season for UCLA. But then you bounce back against Kansas, and
- 2:27the thing that you talked about after the loss to UCLA, people needed a
- 2:32step up. And even though Opbry had double figures against Ucla, it took
- 2:37her a while to get going, it did not take her a long time
- 2:39get going in the Kansas game. Established yourself right away and was a compliment
- 2:45to Page. And then Alia gave you some good minutes too before getting knocked
- 2:47in the head, so at least you were in that right direction of getting
- 2:51some balance. Yeah, we need that. You know, we can't be
- 2:57a one one mansional kind of team. We can we can't be where we're
- 3:02so predictable, and we have to get more production from more people. And
- 3:10I understand that we're throwing our freshmen into difficult situations. As I said,
- 3:16if I'd have known it was going to be like this, maybe we did
- 3:21schedule like everybody else, you know, our first nine games against teams that
- 3:29you know we have no chance to lose to. But that's the situation we
- 3:34find ourselves in now, and they're going to have to play well. And
- 3:40sometimes that takes a little bit of getting used to, you know, So
- 3:46we'll figure it out. It's you know, it hits you pretty hard,
- 3:52you know, but all of a sudden, you know, you think you've
- 3:53got something going, and then you look up and you know, asies out,
- 4:00Carol's out, and you're really, you know, asking some players to
- 4:06do more than what what they may be capable of this early, right,
- 4:13how much tinkering have you had to do with the offense or can you do
- 4:16in the span of three or four days where you don't play basically for a
- 4:20week between the Kansas and Texas games. Well, sometimes you can sing more
- 4:30than others. It depends on what kind of what kind of team you have
- 4:32and do you have some versatile players that can fit into a lot of different
- 4:39scenarios. You know, I don't know that we have that right now.
- 4:43I don't know that we have the ability to to just mix and match players
- 4:50and about what the lineup looks like. You know, we're gonna have to
- 4:55be very specific with who we have on the floor with who and play,
- 4:59you know, a different style than we had anticipated going into the season.
- 5:04And you don't you don't fix that, and you know, you don't take
- 5:08what we did all June, in all September for the most part, and
- 5:11half of October and then all of a sudden changing in three days four days.
- 5:15So you know, it'll take us some time, but we'll we'll figure
- 5:19it out. You know. Speaking of which, the inconsistency of whether Caroline's
- 5:24in the lineup or out, what are your expectations this weekend against Texas?
- 5:27Will she be available or is it still a day to day thing? Yeah,
- 5:30no, Caral won't be available and I factually won't to even be on
- 5:33the trip. You know, we've got to you know, we got to
- 5:40do what's what's what's right for for Caroline, uh, and make sure that
- 5:45she's in a you know, she's in a position m hm to play well
- 5:56and it's not to do and I think she this idea that I can just
- 6:03go out there anytime and it'll be okay until it's not. It can't be
- 6:10like that, you know. We have to try to get Carol to the
- 6:12position, to a situation where I'm good to go all the time, not
- 6:15you know, a day here or a day there, day here or day
- 6:18there, that that that we can't sustain, that we can't more with Gino
- 6:25on the U Kind of Women's Basketball Coach, a show coming up here in
- 6:27a minute on Learfield, Stay with us
