- 0:23chickens. Hey everybody.
- 0:29Good morning. I Say from the chicken coop, but
- 0:32I would be lying to you. It is from my porch,
- 0:35overlooking, the chicken coop, which is I don't know, like a
- 0:38football field length away from my house.
- 0:41I am shooting this podcast this morning in the midst of
- 0:45hurricane Ian as it comes up and hits the South Carolina coast.
- 0:50And I, you know, I like to keep it real with all of you guys all
- 0:54the time. And I am not letting the
- 0:56chickens out in this storm, so they are locked up.
- 0:59I'm not going to disturb Of them.
- 1:01And I didn't want to miss you too in my podcast because I know
- 1:05for me, it's a commitment that I like to keep.
- 1:08So we are shooting from the porch.
- 1:10And we are talking today about how you have to Pivot sometime,
- 1:14and how you have to just laugh about it.
- 1:16How you have to just say, okay, you know what, this is, what has
- 1:19to be done. So, you know, these things show
- 1:22up in our lives hurricanes storms, personal tragedies, all
- 1:26of it shows up and how you handle it is what makes all the
- 1:29difference in the world. So I have a big beautiful porch
- 1:33and I thought to myself, well I could skip it, I could do that,
- 1:37but that would be out of line with my character and it would
- 1:40drive me crazy to know that I have been shooting all these
- 1:43days and I missed one because of a little rain and some went even
- 1:48though we call it a hurricane, right.
- 1:49So I made the decision that this would be a great lesson and that
- 1:54it would be something to talk about with all of you.
- 1:57And I think, you know, I think back on other times where I've
- 2:00let things Get in my way and I haven't decided to Pivot and
- 2:04I've let the situation take over rather than me making a decision
- 2:09about how I wanted to handle it. And the older I get, the more I
- 2:13realize I do have complete control and so, do you we all
- 2:17have complete control over ourselves.
- 2:19You know, it's funny, I've went this morning to let my dogs out
- 2:23and I insist that I get my dogs outside quickly so that they can
- 2:27go to the bathroom and my Bulldog because So I don't know
- 2:31if any of you have ever had a bulldog of any kind, whether
- 2:34it's French American English. I happen to have a very large
- 2:38American Bulldog, who is very, very stubborn, and he looks at
- 2:42me. Like, I'm not going out there
- 2:43and I'm like, no! No, no, you got to go out there.
- 2:45You got to go out there and he refused to go and no matter how
- 2:49hard I tried. I couldn't get him to go out
- 2:51there. And that's part of this
- 2:53situation. I could have stood there and got
- 2:55mad, I could have said you need to go.
- 2:57You need to go, come on, come on, come on, come on.
- 2:59I could have tried to push him. But to, what Avail?
- 3:02I mean, he's a dog, I can't squeeze them to make them pee,
- 3:05and there's no need for me to be angry about it.
- 3:07At some point, he's going to get full enough where he's going to
- 3:10say, alright, I'm going to go and I'm going to pee had to let
- 3:14the situation go. I don't have to let it carry me
- 3:17all day. This hurricane coming had to
- 3:20lift. Let It Go.
- 3:21Couldn't sit there and say, hey, I'm going to be upset about
- 3:24this, this summer. We had so much rain.
- 3:29It was insane. We had a first Route.
- 3:31And then we had so much crazy rain that I lost so many plants.
- 3:36Those of you that know me. Well know, I and I use my farm
- 3:41to teach you guys things, right. I lost about 80 plants or so I
- 3:46lost most of my vegetable garden with all of the rain because it
- 3:50just didn't stop. And I could have sat there.
- 3:53I could have been upset. I and let me say this.
- 3:56I was sad but I didn't let it become my Dominant emotion.
- 4:01And as we've talked about this before, that's where that
- 4:04switching the bus driver, it comes in.
- 4:06I just said, okay, what lessons have I learned?
- 4:09What else can I pull from this? My flower garden first year, I
- 4:13did a flower garden then posting about that on social media and,
- 4:18you know, the lessons from that flower garden have been so
- 4:21Grand. It's ridiculous because I wanted
- 4:24flowers. So I went out there and I
- 4:26stubbornly planted all kinds of flowers that I wanted.
- 4:29Well, guess what? In mice.
- 4:30Stubbornness I didn't really think about the self Carolina
- 4:34heat and guess what? It's hot.
- 4:36And I knew that I knew how hot it was.
- 4:39I just didn't think about it. I was like, oh, they'll be fine.
- 4:42Well, guess what? Flowers don't Bloom if it's too
- 4:45hot for them in the certain zones and this was my first time
- 4:48growing flowers. Now I'm great at growing
- 4:50vegetables, but I am not so great at growing flowers, so I
- 4:54have to learn. I have to think about this.
- 4:56I have to plan better so this time I'm going to start putting
- 5:00out flowers. Is that are for next year.
- 5:02I'm already planning flowers that will be flowers that are
- 5:05good for intense heat because intense heat is what we have.
- 5:09And ironically in the vegetable garden, the things that I didn't
- 5:13even realize that I had put in there, crazy things seeds that I
- 5:17had gotten for a certain beans from Thailand and whatnot.
- 5:20They did really well because they have similar types of
- 5:23things. Lots of rain intense Heat, So
- 5:26point is I while it upset me to no end that I can't do canning
- 5:31right now that I can't create all of my pickled peppers and
- 5:36all the stuff that I love to do it.
- 5:38Didn't it didn't change the core of my being about being happy.
- 5:42I didn't let it shift me. I chose a better driver.
- 5:45I did the pivot. I said, okay, how else can I
- 5:49view this? How else can I make this a win?
- 5:51What else can I look at? What can I learn from it asking
- 5:54better questions. Focusing on that.
- 5:56So today while this hurricane is Raging and you know I'm
- 6:00completely focused for all my friends in Florida who have gone
- 6:04through a living hell and I have been non-stop focused on seeing
- 6:09them safe and thank God, they are all safe.
- 6:14We all have to pray for the fact that there are people out there
- 6:16that have absolute devastation and we have to focus on the fact
- 6:20that, you know, we can pivot for ourselves in whatever's going on
- 6:24for us today. And we don't need to whine about
- 6:26it and we can choose to be happy, no matter what, because
- 6:29like the Dalai Lama says, the purpose of life is to be happy
- 6:32and nothing makes you happy except choosing to be happy.
- 6:36So I hope you have a blessed day, my friends and if you are
- 6:40in this mess, stay safe. And I will see you all tomorrow
- 6:44but the chickens hopefully by
