- 0:00Speaker 1: Get the hell out of my way. It's One More.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Thing twice in one week. Katie led One More Thing podcast.
- 0:09Speaker 2: But before we get to that, I'm asking, well, did
- 0:14Speaker 2: you play anything in band, Katie?
- 0:16Speaker 3: I wasn't in band, but I've played several instruments growing up.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Michael, do you ever do band in school?
- 0:24Speaker 4: No?
- 0:25Speaker 2: I was just wondering last night as I was watching
- 0:27Speaker 2: the Christmas concert. My son is a tuba player and
- 0:30Speaker 2: he's not really into it, and a lot of the
- 0:36Speaker 2: kids don't look like they're that into it, and a
- 0:39Speaker 2: lot of Martin Urry, a lot of them have no
- 0:40Speaker 2: talent for it. What do you think the benefit is
- 0:43Speaker 2: of having kids be in band? I was in band
- 0:46Speaker 2: and I liked it. And I play a musical instrument
- 0:49Speaker 2: every single day. It's rare if I have a day.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I mean today, as a sixty year old, I play
- 0:54Speaker 2: something almost every single day. I love it. But what
- 0:56Speaker 2: do you think the advantage is? What's in it for
- 0:59Speaker 2: kids who are like they don't really have a talent
- 1:02Speaker 2: for it and they're not really into it, but they
- 1:04Speaker 2: do it anyway.
- 1:04Speaker 4: I think there's an advantager. Science is rock solid that
- 1:07Speaker 4: is great for your brain, helps you with your math skills.
- 1:11Speaker 4: It gets all sorts of different parts of your brain
- 1:14Speaker 4: working together in a way that's really healthful.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Okay, that's a good one. I'll use that on my kid.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Anything else, do you think just like being well rounded
- 1:22Speaker 2: or anything like that?
- 1:25Speaker 4: Maybe? I don't know. I don't know. I try to
- 1:31Speaker 4: avoid advocating stuff just because that's the way I rolled, right, Katie.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Sorry, the chicks think it's hot when they get older.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I tell Henry that all the time, because Henry does
- 1:42Speaker 2: have some talent for music I can tell, and plays
- 1:45Speaker 2: a little guitar. So, dude, this is gonna be the
- 1:49Speaker 2: best thing you've ever done if you keep up with this.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Although if all the girls are into the hippity hop music,
- 1:56Speaker 4: is that still true? I don't know. I don't have
- 1:58Speaker 4: a sense of that. Now.
- 1:59Speaker 2: There's still plenty of singer songwriter stuff on the radio. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: and the country's huge, of course. Yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 4: To quote the great John Mellencamp, cut out all of
- 2:06Speaker 4: that macho shit and learn how to play guitar.
- 2:08Speaker 2: I've played that song before him. Yeah, what instruments did
- 2:12Speaker 2: you play, Kadio? I did not know this.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I played piano, violin flute, and then I taught myself
- 2:20Speaker 3: guitar later on in.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Life all past tense, Do you still play anything?
- 2:24Speaker 3: I still play the guitar every now and then. I
- 2:26Speaker 3: should play it more, but cool. Yeah, I can't not
- 2:30Speaker 3: not play something. I need to every day or it
- 2:33Speaker 3: makes me very unhappy. It's just I'm driven to it.
- 2:35Speaker 3: For whatever reason.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It does something for my brain or ability to check out.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I found I can't think about anything else when I'm
- 2:42Speaker 2: practicing music, so it just automatically makes me not think
- 2:46Speaker 2: about anything.
- 2:46Speaker 1: My dad does that love that?
- 2:49Speaker 4: Yeah, you know. It's funny because I play scales and
- 2:53Speaker 4: licks and stuff while I watch the news, because I
- 2:55Speaker 4: frequently find the news mostly tedious and depressing. But if
- 2:59Speaker 4: I'm concentrated, I realized I did not hear anything that
- 3:02Speaker 4: was just said. It obliterates everything else, which is what's
- 3:06Speaker 4: so healthy about it.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think John Mayer is a big proponent of sitting
- 3:10Speaker 2: there with your guitar while you watch TV and just
- 3:12Speaker 2: kind of going through things kind of oh really, yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 2: gets in the back of your brain somehow.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I wonder, Yeah, I would argue with that handsome devil.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So what was your thing about? Get out of your
- 3:23Speaker 2: way or whatever? Katie get the hell out of my way.
- 3:26Speaker 4: I say that to my dog half a dozen times
- 3:28Speaker 4: every single day.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Just get out of the way.
- 3:34Speaker 3: My sweet friend just broke her ankle because her dog
- 3:38Speaker 3: got under her when she was going down some stairs.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I've always assumed that because Baxter is
- 3:45Speaker 4: half a herding dog, that that's part of it. But
- 3:48Speaker 4: he will see where you're going and and walk over
- 3:52Speaker 4: and stand there like he wants to heard you. And seriously,
- 3:56Speaker 4: half a dozen times a day, I say, would you
- 3:58Speaker 4: get the hell out of my way? Why did you
- 4:01Speaker 4: stand this is a doorway, I say, looking at him.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It's just so excited to do whatever you're doing.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess he's a good fellow.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Uh So my intro was about the other day at
- 4:14Speaker 3: the grocery store. And I don't know why, but I
- 4:17Speaker 3: hate little things more than I hate the grocery store.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I hate going in there.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I just like to go in, I know what I'm getting,
- 4:24Speaker 3: get my stuff, get out.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And so I'm going to get the coffee.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And I noticed like a couple of people kind of
- 4:31Speaker 3: standing as if they were waiting to get into the aisle,
- 4:34Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh God, okay, of course of course
- 4:37Speaker 3: this is happening on the aisle.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I need to go down. The reason they were.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Doing that is because this chick that was probably maybe
- 4:46Speaker 3: late twenties at I kid you not, had a camera
- 4:51Speaker 3: set up on a shopping cart and was doing a
- 4:53Speaker 3: TikTok dance and no one was telling her to move.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Wow, my god, shame I wasn't there.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Oh I wish I think we're all figuring.
- 5:02Speaker 4: God, why doesn't that happen to me?
- 5:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it would have.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Been a different type of video if I was there.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Oh well, and I'm sitting there and I'm watching her,
- 5:09Speaker 3: and she didn't have the camera facing like we the
- 5:12Speaker 3: group was not standing behind her.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Oh.
- 5:14Speaker 3: If I had been in shot, this would be a
- 5:15Speaker 3: completely different broadcast. But it was away from us and
- 5:20Speaker 3: just complete disregard for the fact. I mean, there was
- 5:23Speaker 3: this sweet little old lady who was probably in her
- 5:26Speaker 3: mid eighties, like just trying to get her tea, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 3: and she's sitting there doing this stupid f and dance
- 5:33Speaker 3: and finally.
- 5:35Speaker 1: This big, burly cowboy dude went.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Hey, move, good job, burly cowboy dude.
- 5:42Speaker 3: But it was just I mean, I don't I don't understand.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I've had a moment of like, where am I? How
- 5:49Speaker 3: did I end up here?
- 5:50Speaker 4: Where I am?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Stopped at a grocery aisle because a woman is dancing
- 5:54Speaker 3: to a camera.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see how a lot of kindly older
- 5:57Speaker 2: people would think I need to stay out of their way.
- 6:02Speaker 2: They're doing something.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there were three people just waiting for her to
- 6:06Speaker 3: People lack the confidence to say what clearly needs to
- 6:10Speaker 3: be said.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's it's funny. I I was thinking
- 6:15Speaker 4: what I was about to say is such a truism,
- 6:17Speaker 4: But then I realized, No, I think the vast majority
- 6:20Speaker 4: of the population, especially younger, younger people, have never heard this.
- 6:24Speaker 4: I was gonna say, Katie, what is required of good
- 6:26Speaker 4: people for evil to triumph? They're silence.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That's all this requested.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Would you don't let the evil of TikTok dancing clog
- 6:36Speaker 4: the grocery aisles of our society? Say something? What would
- 6:40Speaker 4: you have said, you dumb mother? No, I just excuse me,
- 6:48Speaker 4: just pushed past.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I was too deeply, too deep in the line to
- 6:53Speaker 1: do that.
- 6:53Speaker 3: But and it was also the fact that that this
- 6:55Speaker 3: wasn't a teenager, which I mean, even if it was
- 6:58Speaker 3: a teenager, it would have been annoying, but it would
- 6:59Speaker 3: have been like, Okay, they're dumb. You know, this woman's
- 7:02Speaker 3: frontal lobe is fully developed, you know what I mean?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I would have just walked to whatever
- 7:07Speaker 2: product I need to get and shop. I would have
- 7:08Speaker 2: just shopped like I was normally gonna shop. And if
- 7:11Speaker 2: we end up in the same space, excuse me, not lucky.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Yeah, carts in my way, excuse me, excuse me, I
- 7:17Speaker 4: gotta get by you.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Thanks, right where I needed to be, of course, and
- 7:22Speaker 1: I stood.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I stood there like an ass I was like, I
- 7:25Speaker 3: think it was because my brain didn't really understand what
- 7:27Speaker 3: was happening.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Right. That's funny, isn't that when that sort of thing
- 7:32Speaker 4: happens in life that you think it's so weird you
- 7:35Speaker 4: don't like have a I think psychologists would tell you
- 7:38Speaker 4: you don't have a script for it, which is the
- 7:41Speaker 4: psychological You walk into a church, for instance, if you've
- 7:44Speaker 4: ever been in churches, you know how to act, you
- 7:46Speaker 4: know what is where and roughly what's going on. If
- 7:49Speaker 4: you go, like to a Catholic church as a Protestant,
- 7:51Speaker 4: your script is a little bit off and you have
- 7:53Speaker 4: to adjust it. And that sort of thing if you
- 7:55Speaker 4: try to go down a grocery all if somebody's doing
- 7:57Speaker 4: a TikTok dance, you don't really have a script for that.
- 8:01Speaker 4: You got entirely ad lib the whole thing. And yeah,
- 8:03Speaker 4: I get it. There's a moment of a right, wait
- 8:05Speaker 4: a minute, this is so weird. What do we do?
- 8:07Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 8:08Speaker 3: I totally had that, And well, now that I'm seasoned,
- 8:10Speaker 3: I'll just knock her out next time.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Speaking of TikTok, it's like when the guy did the
- 8:13Speaker 2: splits and ate the the entire raw egg in front
- 8:16Speaker 2: of that yes, exactly boiled egg. It's like I didn't
- 8:20Speaker 2: I didn't react the way I wish I would have
- 8:22Speaker 2: reacted because it was a little cognitive dissonance going on.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Because I do not have a script for somebody doing
- 8:27Speaker 2: the splits, getting lower and lower, pulling a full hard
- 8:31Speaker 2: boiled egg out of their backpack, and then eating it
- 8:32Speaker 2: in front of me.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I didn't know what to do performance art. Yeah, I
- 8:37Speaker 4: found out that that guy does that. That's his thing.
- 8:40Speaker 2: That's his thing all the time.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I wonder how we.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Came up with that.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Here's what how many iterations he went through? You know,
- 8:47Speaker 4: I'm gonna squat and uh and munch on a nice
- 8:50Speaker 4: ripe slice of watermelon. No, that's not really good.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It'll lay on my back and eat sardines.
- 8:54Speaker 4: No better if I do splits and eat sardines. Now,
- 8:58Speaker 4: that's still not think.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I see that guy around town now, and then I
- 9:04Speaker 2: think I wish he'd come over now because I got
- 9:06Speaker 2: a bit of the jerk store calling her out of you.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I mean, I got I'm ready to talk to him now,
- 9:10Speaker 2: but he's gonna end up stalking the guy just hoping
- 9:13Speaker 2: he does it again. Hey, buddy, how you doing. You
- 9:15Speaker 2: got any like weird skills or anything.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Katie, I'm surprised that you just didn't go pick up
- 9:24Speaker 5: your product and just maybe put a couple of dance
- 9:26Speaker 5: moves on video right along with her.
- 9:28Speaker 1: You know, I join in and catch her again. I'll
- 9:30Speaker 1: show her a dance move.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Her Blewie. Well, I guess that's it.
