- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Cats and Pudding Podcast. A melting pot
- 0:06Speaker 1: of pudding.
- 0:07Speaker 2: And now, here's Jen.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to this week's episode of
- 0:11Speaker 3: Cats and Pudding. And today, oh my goodness.
- 0:15Speaker 1: This is going to be so exciting.
- 0:17Speaker 3: I have such a wonderful, wonderful co-host today, my little Lexi.
- 0:22Speaker 1: What an honor it is.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Oh, I love you.
- 0:24Speaker 5: It's a true pleasure to Now, this is my second
- 0:27Speaker 5: time on Katz and Podcast co-hosting.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Pudding. Oh, my God. What did I say? Katz and Podcast.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But that's okay. Katz and Pudding Podcast.
- 0:35Speaker 3: That's okay.
- 0:36Speaker 1: That's all right. I'm just so overwhelmed with excitement. I
- 0:39Speaker 1: can't even pronounce things. And by the way, I'm coming
- 0:42Speaker 1: over your house for some hot pudding tonight.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 6: We were just talking about that.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But thank you so much for having me. It's a thrill.
- 0:48Speaker 6: It's a thrill to be here with you.
- 0:50Speaker 5: But we have some really, really big special guests.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We do. And I'm going to let you introduce them. Yes.
- 0:56Speaker 5: We are graced today with none other than the world's
- 1:02Speaker 5: famous Jennifer Graziano, who is the creator, executive producer, and writer, right,
- 1:12Speaker 5: who created Mob Wives.
- 1:14Speaker 7: Yes.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And now. Well, I don't know about world famous. Well,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I think... This could say notorious. Yeah, it probably makes
- 1:27Speaker 1: more sense, but that's a little negative, but okay.
- 1:30Speaker 5: And now you have your new theatrical play based on.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Mob Wives, which is... It's coming to so many places
- 1:41Speaker 1: in New York and... Jersey.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Rhode Island.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Rhode Island.
- 1:45Speaker 4: And.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You know, I'm so excited because you guys are coming
- 1:48Speaker 1: to Rhode Island. Yeah. And everyone in Rhode Island, you
- 1:51Speaker 1: better buy tickets. Yes. Yes. 9-20.
- 1:54Speaker 3: You're going to get them to buy tickets.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:56Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:56Speaker 1: On the Pateksa. That's like a classic Rhode Island spot.
- 1:59Speaker 1: I know. So I've been hearing everybody talking about it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It's like where all the mob weddings happen.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And I think if I'm not mistaken, historically, it was
- 2:09Speaker 1: a place where they used to bootleg the liquor and
- 2:11Speaker 1: the mob had control of it back in the day.
- 2:13Speaker 1: So it's like perfect for us. I love it. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: love it. Keeping with the theme. And we have one
- 2:19Speaker 1: of the stars of the show, Jay. Yes, we do.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Lauren Updike, who I just met today. And you are adorable. Oh,
- 2:26Speaker 1: thank you. I cannot wait to see you in the performance.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. Absolutely. Oh, Lauren, by the way,
- 2:33Speaker 1: is not just a star of the show. She also, she,
- 2:38Speaker 1: she's an actress, but she also does a performance of
- 2:41Speaker 1: a lifetime. If you ask me, she does an odor
- 2:44Speaker 1: rendition to a funny girl. Are you familiar with that?
- 2:48Speaker 1: The singer. Yeah. She sings, she acts, she dances. So yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So it's really, it's, it's an exciting play because what
- 2:55Speaker 1: we really tried to do is not like a lot
- 2:58Speaker 1: of these dinner theater, like I will not call it
- 3:00Speaker 1: dinner theater. The code immersive experience sounds way more sophisticated.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And I think we're trying to be a little bit
- 3:07Speaker 1: more prestige, right? So, you know, a lot of the
- 3:09Speaker 1: dinner theater is just, come it's outrageous it's over the
- 3:12Speaker 1: top have a good time at home we have a
- 3:14Speaker 1: real story to this there's a real underlying story there's
- 3:18Speaker 1: a love story within it there's a coming of age
- 3:20Speaker 1: story within it and then you got the mob story
- 3:23Speaker 1: which we can't get away from because yes it takes
- 3:26Speaker 1: the dna of mob wives and brings it in the
- 3:28Speaker 1: room but it's really a personal it's kind of personal
- 3:30Speaker 1: because there's you know the the um bride her name
- 3:34Speaker 1: is bella and the play and she kind of runs
- 3:37Speaker 1: away from the neighborhood and goes away to college and
- 3:39Speaker 1: wants to get away from this only to end up
- 3:41Speaker 1: right back in the same place. And I kind of
- 3:44Speaker 1: thought that sort of a little bit like me.
- 3:46Speaker 3: I was going to say that. It sounds like you, Jen.
- 3:49Speaker 1: A little bit, a little bit.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So, you know, it does come from a personal place. And,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you know, I have an amazing cast. Lauren included that
- 3:58Speaker 1: helped to bring it to life. And it is outrageous
- 4:02Speaker 1: and it is fun. And we do have a lot
- 4:03Speaker 1: of fun with it. And some of the things we
- 4:05Speaker 1: say and, especially Lauren does are pretty funny and outrageous.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It's you get everything the best of all. I love it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I love it.
- 4:15Speaker 5: And, um, is, is this has, have you been like
- 4:18Speaker 5: touring like for how many months? Cause I've noticed so
- 4:21Speaker 5: many shows and, uh, what do you, what do you
- 4:24Speaker 5: feel like is, is coming next?
- 4:26Speaker 1: We really just started on it. Yeah. We've only, we
- 4:29Speaker 1: ran our debut run back in February. Um, three nights
- 4:32Speaker 1: sold out in New Jersey and, And then we took
- 4:36Speaker 1: a little bit of a break to kind of workshop
- 4:37Speaker 1: it a little bit. And now we're back. We got
- 4:39Speaker 1: five more shows in New Jersey where we started Rhode Island.
- 4:42Speaker 1: We just completed Hudson Valley. Just locked down a gorgeous
- 4:46Speaker 1: place in Tarrytown called the Tarrytown Estates. Talking to Florida
- 4:52Speaker 1: about doing a few cities. A few city tour there.
- 4:55Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Vegas is, you know, they wanted to do what's called
- 4:59Speaker 1: a four wall deal, um, out in a place that
- 5:01Speaker 1: I don't think we're ready yet. Like if I'm going
- 5:03Speaker 1: to do Vegas, I want it to be a hundred percent. Right.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I think from what I'm hearing, cause this is my
- 5:07Speaker 1: first foray into theater. You need like a year to
- 5:11Speaker 1: kind of really workshop it, get the story, get a
- 5:12Speaker 1: hundred percent, get the casting, you know, everybody, because a
- 5:17Speaker 1: lot of times what I'm realizing now is The show
- 5:21Speaker 1: that you have is not the only show they act
- 5:23Speaker 1: at that. So they're rotating.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:25Speaker 1: So they're moving in and out. So I have a
- 5:28Speaker 1: little bit of an issue with my next show, but
- 5:30Speaker 1: I found a replacement for one of the girls, which
- 5:33Speaker 1: is good. But yeah, so it's like, it takes time
- 5:36Speaker 1: to kind of lock it, you know?
- 5:37Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I don't want to do anything and take, I already
- 5:39Speaker 1: bit off more than I can chew with theater because
- 5:41Speaker 1: I didn't know what I was doing yet. So I'm
- 5:43Speaker 1: slowing it down for a second. It looks very inviting.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Like I just, just, you know, knowing that it's kind
- 5:50Speaker 5: of like, um, a take on actually the show mob waves.
- 5:55Speaker 5: And it's just like intriguing to people. People love that
- 5:58Speaker 5: Italian mob. I just love it, you know, and so
- 6:02Speaker 5: many people that I talked to just love it. They
- 6:04Speaker 5: can't wait to come to the show. Um, I've noticed
- 6:06Speaker 5: a lot of, uh, you know, influencers now that you're
- 6:10Speaker 5: bringing into the cast and you, you, you know, you
- 6:13Speaker 5: switch it up a little bit, but tell us about
- 6:15Speaker 5: like the characters and everything.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yeah. So, um, It definitely has the DNA of Mob
- 6:20Speaker 1: Wives in the sense of the two dueling matriarchs. If
- 6:23Speaker 1: you watch Mob Wives, you know they were always dueling.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So we have that. Our main character, one of the
- 6:31Speaker 1: main characters, Cookie Casanova, could very well be the epitome
- 6:36Speaker 1: of Renee.
- 6:37Speaker 6: Renee.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Ah. You know, her son is married. You know, if
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know Renee, she does, you know, her son is everything.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Nobody's good enough. So that's kind of embedded in the show.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And is Renee Cookie in the show? Renee is Cookie.
- 6:51Speaker 1: All right, because I haven't seen it yet, and I
- 6:53Speaker 1: can't wait. All right. Which is an experiment. Wow. Because
- 6:57Speaker 1: she's so good at everything. I'm just like, what's the
- 7:00Speaker 1: perfect role for her? And you're keeping it in the family.
- 7:04Speaker 8: Yes.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It's the family. And of course, there's all those themes.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So Lauren, she plays something which I'm excited because she
- 7:15Speaker 1: told me she usually plays like the runaway bride or
- 7:18Speaker 1: the good girl or the good character. She's playing our
- 7:21Speaker 1: sort of ex-girlfriend.
- 7:24Speaker 10: I feel about playing that type now.
- 7:28Speaker 1: So. Isn't it fun?
- 7:30Speaker 3: It's so fun to be the villain, right?
- 7:32Speaker 1: It's fun to be the villain.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I feel like for a very long time, I got
- 7:35Speaker 4: cast in these very goody-two-shoes roles, which is more aligned
- 7:39Speaker 4: with who I am personally, to be quite frank with you.
- 7:42Speaker 4: But I remember at NYU, that's where I went for
- 7:45Speaker 4: my undergraduate degree, having my peers be like, Lauren, you
- 7:51Speaker 4: really should.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Take on more villainous roles. You should lean into that.
- 7:54Speaker 4: And so it's funny because I feel like my peers
- 7:58Speaker 4: kind of made that a thing and yeah you started
- 8:01Speaker 4: getting cast as like villains and very chaotic characters and
- 8:06Speaker 4: this character is crazy so i can just act something.
- 8:09Speaker 6: It's high time yeah are you doing i.
- 8:13Speaker 9: Drink lots of liquor there's i i hope it's okay
- 8:17Speaker 9: to say i do fake a pregnancy at one point
- 8:20Speaker 9: just Very chaotic vibes and it's very fun to be
- 8:24Speaker 9: so outrageous and to be singing Barbra Streisand one moment
- 8:27Speaker 9: and to be like slugging it at the boy.
- 8:28Speaker 10: Can you give me a little little rendition of Barbra?
- 8:34Speaker 7: I am the beautiful reflection of my love's affection.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The walking adoration of my love's admiration.
- 8:50Speaker 7: I am so beautiful, so beautiful, so beautiful.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Wow. That's impressive. Five seconds later, she's batshit crazy.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Wow, you are multi-talented. Love Barbra Streisand?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Who doesn't?
- 9:15Speaker 3: What was your favorite? If you don't say Yentl, I'm
- 9:18Speaker 3: going to be upset.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I love Funny Girl. I have a deep love for
- 9:23Speaker 1: the musical. I've seen it on Broadway multiple times. I
- 9:26Speaker 1: just think that music is so stunning.
- 9:29Speaker 3: She's like butter.
- 9:31Speaker 5: One of my favorite Barbra Streisand songs is the duet
- 9:37Speaker 5: she did with Don Johnson, Till I Loved You.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Do you remember that song? Oh, I did not know
- 9:42Speaker 1: that song. Oh, I just love that song.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But enough is enough with Harvard and Donna Summer.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Don Johnson, who was, like, gorgeous back
- 9:49Speaker 1: in the 80s, right?
- 9:51Speaker 6: He's still gorgeous.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I haven't seen him on anything in a long, long time,
- 9:54Speaker 5: but they're like, who wasn't in love with Don Johnson?
- 9:57Speaker 1: With his blazers, man. He's so cute. He wasn't even
- 10:01Speaker 1: born yet. But that's a good one. It's more like
- 10:05Speaker 1: a pop one, but I love it. I love that.
- 10:07Speaker 1: It's a ballad. It's good. All right, so next time
- 10:09Speaker 1: you've got to learn that one.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yes. The Way We Were, I think, was my favorite.
- 10:14Speaker 3: That's a good one.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Is it Robert Redford? Oh, my gosh.
- 10:18Speaker 6: It's a music of my bliss.
- 10:19Speaker 3: It's not too big.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. Love them.
- 10:23Speaker 8: No.
- 10:23Speaker 1: One of my favorites.
- 10:25Speaker 6: So you do a rendition of Funny Girl?
- 10:29Speaker 1: I mean, you do. Well, we can't tell you. You've
- 10:32Speaker 1: got to come see the play to find out. Yes.
- 10:35Speaker 1: She does sing a little bit of that. We're not
- 10:38Speaker 1: going to get the storyline away. Yeah. A little bit.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Any aside, we said enough.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Now it's getting your tickets at marriedbrothermob.com and come find out. Oh, my.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I love it. I love it. I think this is
- 10:50Speaker 1: going to be huge. I really feel it.
- 10:54Speaker 5: I'm just really excited to come and experience the show
- 10:58Speaker 5: firsthand and see how.
- 11:03Speaker 1: It plays out. It's so much fun. And I think
- 11:07Speaker 1: what really makes it special, obviously, the cast. And what happened...
- 11:12Speaker 1: They're going to kill me for saying this, but like
- 11:14Speaker 1: none of the young. So we have the kids. We
- 11:17Speaker 1: call them the kids. That would be Lauren and Jackie,
- 11:19Speaker 1: who you meet a little while. Everyone under our age
- 11:21Speaker 1: of the kids. And then we have the adults. So
- 11:24Speaker 1: none of the kids knew each other before this happened.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And now they all hang out like all the time.
- 11:29Speaker 1: We'll see very into the brand of always together at
- 11:31Speaker 1: each other's shows. And our bride and groom really became
- 11:34Speaker 1: a couple, which is no way.
- 11:37Speaker 3: That's so cute.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So that alone is good enough for me. Oh, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: like that. Job well done, Jen.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Job well.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Jen, let me ask you, like, were you the casting
- 11:46Speaker 1: agent as well for the whole show? The way the
- 11:49Speaker 1: cast came together was all over the place. We had
- 11:52Speaker 1: a casting agent, and I can't remember her name. God
- 11:54Speaker 1: damn it. We'll write it into, like, good thing.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Uh, so we had a casting agent. We, my director
- 12:03Speaker 1: Vivian Sorensen had a friend named Ann. Don't remember her
- 12:07Speaker 1: last name either. Who brought us a few of the
- 12:09Speaker 1: cast members. A lot of them I knew. Um, so
- 12:12Speaker 1: some of the influences. So the cast is a perfect
- 12:15Speaker 1: mix of theater trained actresses, actors and actresses, which is
- 12:18Speaker 1: probably the majority. Um, and then Renee. She's just in
- 12:24Speaker 1: a category of her own. She's Renee.
- 12:26Speaker 8: Okay.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And then we have social media influences, which is Kristen.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And then we kind of rotate in a special social
- 12:33Speaker 1: media guest. So it covers all the bases.
- 12:37Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: But with a good foundation of real theater acting. Yes. Yes.
- 12:41Speaker 1: They're teaching everyone how to act. That's great. That's great.
- 12:44Speaker 1: And they're teaching them the rules of theater. Because my bunch,
- 12:48Speaker 1: I came with a bunch of like scrappy freaking mob ones.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:53Speaker 1: We think they can do whatever the hell they want
- 12:55Speaker 1: when they want. It's like, no, there are rules to
- 12:58Speaker 1: this shit. Don't over talk the director. They still haven't
- 13:01Speaker 1: learned that one. We're still working on that. But yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's fun. It's a little chaotic behind the scenes and
- 13:07Speaker 1: on stage. We're getting there. We're getting there. But it's
- 13:10Speaker 1: so crazy. It's like organized chaos. Every time it's like, wow,
- 13:16Speaker 1: you know, it's a feel good. It's a feel-good podcast.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And it's so fun.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Like, just as you were talking, I was just thinking, like,
- 13:22Speaker 4: it's also such a funny group of people, which there's
- 13:24Speaker 4: so much improv in this show. Like, yes, there's a
- 13:27Speaker 4: script that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: We very much stick to, but everyone is so clever
- 13:33Speaker 1: and hilarious. And it's, like, everyone's got, like, a bit
- 13:35Speaker 1: with the audience. Yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 4: There's this guy, Chris, who's a part of the guys.
- 13:38Speaker 4: He's always got, like, a bit or something. He's always, like,
- 13:41Speaker 4: bothering someone in the audience. And then my character's coming
- 13:43Speaker 4: up to him, like.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Get away from them. Don't listen to him. Like, he's trouble. Yeah. Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but it's a very funny bunch. It is. There is
- 13:49Speaker 1: a lot of improv, and that's intentional, obviously. I love that.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I love that.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Impromptu, you know, just, you know, feeling the crowd.
- 13:58Speaker 1: That's exciting. Well, you're going to be at the Rhode
- 14:01Speaker 1: Island Shack Rock.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I know.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And we're interviewing everyone on our red carpet. Yes, I
- 14:04Speaker 1: can't wait. I can't wait. That's going to be exciting.
- 14:07Speaker 1: And the Rhode Island Housewives, the aunties are our special
- 14:10Speaker 1: guests on your show. Definitely. And this is going to
- 14:13Speaker 1: be great.
- 14:14Speaker 5: You know, I've been talking to a lot of people
- 14:15Speaker 5: and they're really excited about it.
- 14:17Speaker 1: You know, mob wives coming to Rhode Island. Married by
- 14:21Speaker 1: the mob. We love that. And it's literally like Renee
- 14:26Speaker 1: had a mob wedding, obviously. And she'll explain when she
- 14:31Speaker 1: comes on here. In her words, the worst mob wedding ever.
- 14:35Speaker 1: So she's like trying to get a redo almost. In
- 14:40Speaker 1: this place. That's so funny.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Do you know what I noticed too?
- 14:45Speaker 1: People love the accents. People are very attracted to that.
- 14:50Speaker 1: They are. It's just like that New York accent. It's
- 14:54Speaker 1: so fun.
- 14:56Speaker 10: It's very hard to find our authentic accent right now.
- 15:00Speaker 10: There's a lot of kids that are trying to come
- 15:03Speaker 10: up and to go into these different roles.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Oh, you mean to recreate.
- 15:07Speaker 6: To recreate. It's like our accent is dying. It's dying.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And it's hard to recreate this accent authentically.
- 15:17Speaker 6: It's not an easy.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Accent to recreate. Yeah. You know.
- 15:21Speaker 10: So it's, but there, what I've been finding with other
- 15:25Speaker 10: casting directors have been saying is that it's been hard
- 15:28Speaker 10: to find younger actors who can come across and have authentic.
- 15:35Speaker 1: My son and his friends come from the same place.
- 15:37Speaker 1: They don't talk like we do. They don't talk like us.
- 15:39Speaker 6: They don't talk like us.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Well, I have the Rhode Island accent.
- 15:42Speaker 6: It's a little different.
- 15:43Speaker 3: You do.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But, yeah, I just met some of your colleagues outside,
- 15:46Speaker 1: and they're like, where are you from?
- 15:47Speaker 10: Park.
- 15:48Speaker 6: You have the one I love.
- 15:50Speaker 3: It's cute. It's a little different than the Boston.
- 15:52Speaker 1: A little bit. But it's close to the Boston. It's
- 15:54Speaker 1: like in between, I'd say, New York.
- 15:57Speaker 6: They don't say park.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I say park. Park. It's a little there, there. I
- 16:00Speaker 1: say park. Really, there, park. Like, really.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Guys.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Guys. That's fine. She goes, that's fine. That's fine.
- 16:09Speaker 3: But it's funny that I say that because from my kids,
- 16:12Speaker 3: from my oldest to my youngest, my oldest sounds like me,
- 16:15Speaker 3: my middle one is like in between, and my younger
- 16:17Speaker 3: one sounds like she's from Ohio.
- 16:19Speaker 6: She's like, Mom, can I have a dollar? I'm like, dollar?
- 16:24Speaker 1: My older, yeah, my sister, that's, yeah, I have a dollar.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Sonny says, Mom. I'm like, who the fuck is Mom?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Who's with Ma? That's Ma. Who's not there? I call
- 16:33Speaker 1: my mother Ma. Yeah, Ma. And Dad said Mom, too.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I'm like, no.
- 16:39Speaker 6: I'm like, where did you get this accent from?
- 16:41Speaker 1: Like, mom, can I have a dollar?
- 16:43Speaker 3: Do you want a dollar?
- 16:45Speaker 10: Not a dollar, but yeah. Because they're gentrified now. It's
- 16:50Speaker 10: sad that the accent is dying.
- 16:52Speaker 1: We got to bring it back. I don't really think
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's the best one ever. I think it's great. I
- 16:56Speaker 1: think it's good and it's funny, but it's not proper
- 16:59Speaker 1: by any means.
- 17:00Speaker 10: No, but if you go anywhere in the world, and
- 17:04Speaker 10: I will tell you, it is so recognizable and everybody
- 17:08Speaker 10: wants to hear you say, New York, motherfucker.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Everybody else, can you say motherfucker?
- 17:15Speaker 6: Sure, motherfucker.
- 17:17Speaker 1: It's true.
- 17:18Speaker 3: They want to hear you speak, but it's so funny.
- 17:21Speaker 10: I mean, I'm in England, and these people have taught
- 17:23Speaker 10: me this proper Queen's English, and they're like, I go,
- 17:26Speaker 10: you want to hear my accent?
- 17:28Speaker 3: I go, your accent sounds like music.
- 17:30Speaker 10: I said, they were like, your accent sounds like music.
- 17:32Speaker 6: I'm like, really?
- 17:34Speaker 1: It sounds like music you like, bro. Now, speaking of accents, how, like,
- 17:39Speaker 1: was it easy for you to develop, like, the accent?
- 17:42Speaker 6: So, I'm from New Jersey.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, actually.
- 17:44Speaker 6: And, you know.
- 17:47Speaker 4: I feel like where I grew up in North Jersey,
- 17:49Speaker 4: I wasn't exactly.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Exposed to like that New Jersey accent.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Um, with that being said, I used to go to
- 17:57Speaker 4: South Jersey a lot and it's like a very unique accent,
- 18:00Speaker 4: like where I used to go to the Jersey shore.
- 18:02Speaker 4: And so I just think being around it, my, my
- 18:05Speaker 4: grandma grew up in Spanish Harlem.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Um, my, I feel.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Like he's going to kill me if he watches this,
- 18:11Speaker 4: but like my uncle, like, like has like a bit
- 18:13Speaker 4: of a New York accent from.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Being like from, um, North Jersey in the eighties.
- 18:18Speaker 4: And it's like, just listening to my family a little
- 18:20Speaker 4: bit and just those influences from Jersey. Um, I was
- 18:24Speaker 4: kind of able to just come up with it a
- 18:26Speaker 4: little bit, but I don't think that I like grew
- 18:27Speaker 4: up talking like this, you know.
- 18:28Speaker 1: What I'm saying? But yeah, I do a lot of accents.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I got, I love the Southern accent as well. I
- 18:34Speaker 1: just found accents to be fascinating.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Um, but, uh, yeah, I wouldn't say that this is,
- 18:40Speaker 4: that was like something that I like grew up like
- 18:43Speaker 4: doing I feel like this has always been how I've
- 18:45Speaker 4: sent it with that being said my boyfriend is from
- 18:48Speaker 4: Kansas and he's like baby very much.
- 18:50Speaker 6: Of a New Jersey accent.
- 18:52Speaker 9: Like what are you talking about I'm like you say
- 18:55Speaker 9: milk I'm like you cannot like what are you talking
- 18:57Speaker 9: about you have an accent.
- 18:59Speaker 1: That's so funny I love it I love it so
- 19:02Speaker 1: so what's next Well, a lot. We're going to obviously
- 19:06Speaker 1: continue to tour with the play. I just set a
- 19:10Speaker 1: scripted series with a company with Warner Brothers. I've been
- 19:15Speaker 1: doing a lot of writing. I have a scripted series
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm writing, co-writing with a girl named Christine Crocus and
- 19:23Speaker 1: Lee Daniels is going to produce that as well as
- 19:25Speaker 1: direct it, co-produce it with us. And what else? I
- 19:29Speaker 1: just put nine unscripted series into development with different, uh,
- 19:33Speaker 1: production companies. Um, we're very much growing those shows, everyone
- 19:38Speaker 1: from all three media to IPC to propagate. Um, so
- 19:43Speaker 1: top of the next year is when we'll be in
- 19:45Speaker 1: market with all of the shows and, out of five scripted,
- 19:51Speaker 1: nine unscripted, and probably three more all set up. What
- 19:53Speaker 1: is that? 14, 17 shows. That's a lot of shows.
- 19:58Speaker 1: So yeah, it's very hard in this marketplace right now.
- 20:03Speaker 1: So I'm hoping out of 17, I'm hoping for four.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I'll be happy with one, you know, and just how
- 20:09Speaker 1: it's been. It's hard. It's hard to sell stuff. It's
- 20:12Speaker 1: easy to set it up. It's hard to get it greenlit. Yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I mean, just like meeting you online and now meeting
- 20:18Speaker 5: you in person. I love your ambition, your passion for.
- 20:23Speaker 1: What you're doing.
- 20:25Speaker 5: You know, the resume was so impressive to me and
- 20:27Speaker 5: I was like, wow, we've done so much, you know,
- 20:30Speaker 5: and you are more like behind the scenes, not like
- 20:32Speaker 5: your sister, like out in you know, doing the shows
- 20:35Speaker 5: and everything, but I really love and respect what you do.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to seeing what you do next.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And I can't wait to see you in the show.
- 20:44Speaker 10: Jen, what is your favorite project that you're working on now?
- 20:47Speaker 10: Can you give us a little tidbit of it?
- 20:49Speaker 1: There's so many. I don't want to say, because you
- 20:55Speaker 1: know what? The minute I say the favorite one, It's
- 20:59Speaker 1: so obvious of what it is. And I don't, I'm
- 21:01Speaker 1: keeping it close to the vest. I don't want no
- 21:03Speaker 1: one else going to be like, that's brilliant. Cause it
- 21:05Speaker 1: is fucking close. I thought a lot of times it'd
- 21:07Speaker 1: be like, yeah, I'm going to make that faster than
- 21:09Speaker 1: she can. So no, I'm not telling you, but it
- 21:12Speaker 1: is a scripted YA project that I absolutely love. It's
- 21:17Speaker 1: got a little, you know, samurai term pretty in it.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I don't know. You want to know the funniest thing though?
- 21:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Cause I really believe that I'm young. So I'm on this,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I'm on this call with, with, the studios and they're
- 21:30Speaker 1: giving me a list of showrunners they gave me like
- 21:33Speaker 1: 23 showrunners to go through and I'm looking at them
- 21:36Speaker 1: and I'm like it's the you know fake empire that
- 21:38Speaker 1: did Gossip Girl and it's Jenny Han that did The
- 21:41Speaker 1: Summer I Turned Pretty I'm going yeah this is amazing
- 21:44Speaker 1: I love this is this is like really who I
- 21:46Speaker 1: grew up on and I'm like what I'm older than
- 21:48Speaker 1: all of these days on the earth I'm older than
- 21:51Speaker 1: everyone in this room. Please don't even put that on
- 21:53Speaker 1: the podcast. But in my mind, I think I'm still
- 21:56Speaker 1: a teenager writing these teenage stories because that's what I love.
- 22:00Speaker 1: That's what I like. I like to drop stuff. It's
- 22:03Speaker 1: who I am. It's where I come from. It's easy
- 22:04Speaker 1: for me. But I love YA. I love stuff like
- 22:07Speaker 1: The Outsiders. And I love stuff like Summer. I turned pretty.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I was crying like a little bitch. Like, I can't
- 22:15Speaker 1: believe it. I'm like, you are so nuts. And I'm
- 22:19Speaker 1: trying to think. Oh, Sterling Point. I just watched. I love.
- 22:22Speaker 1: That's my shit. I don't know why, but it is.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And I, you know, now I'm also doing a mystery,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you know, sort of like Perfect Couple and Big Little Lies.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm writing something like that. Wow. Where do you find
- 22:35Speaker 1: the time to do all this? I don't go out anymore.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I need to pay the most.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Just think of nothing new and just write.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I literally don't. I wake up and I go right
- 22:44Speaker 1: to my couch. And then I stretch. I go to
- 22:47Speaker 1: the table. I stretch again. I go to the, what
- 22:50Speaker 1: do you call it? The island. Island. In the kitchen.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And I just go around my house and I find
- 22:54Speaker 1: new rooms and I just keep writing and writing and creating.
- 22:57Speaker 1: And then I get bored. I love it. Then I
- 22:58Speaker 1: go out. And then I'm like, why did I go out?
- 23:01Speaker 1: I'd rather be home. So I'm in that space. That's fine, really.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It took me a long time to get there. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: trust me, because I was not a party animal, but
- 23:09Speaker 1: I was a social butterfly. I wanted to be everywhere.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Now I don't want to be anywhere. I got my dog.
- 23:15Speaker 1: He keeps me company. And you just want to create now.
- 23:17Speaker 1: That's it.
- 23:18Speaker 3: That's it.
- 23:18Speaker 1: That's it. That's all I do. And everyone's like, how
- 23:20Speaker 1: are you doing this so fast? I'm like, because I
- 23:22Speaker 1: spent 24 hours for three days in a row, whereas
- 23:26Speaker 1: maybe someone else is doing four hours here, five hours down.
- 23:29Speaker 1: That takes a lot of focus. It takes a lot
- 23:31Speaker 1: of focus to do that. A lot of focus, a
- 23:33Speaker 1: lot of dedication. It's very difficult.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 1: To do that, to accomplish such great things, you know?
- 23:40Speaker 1: It's not easy to write. It's in you. It's in
- 23:42Speaker 1: your blood. No, it's not. And I always wanted to,
- 23:46Speaker 1: like when I was younger, I wrote poems and stuff
- 23:49Speaker 1: like that. And then I wrote a song that was
- 23:51Speaker 1: like a number one. I heard it. I checked it out. Listen,
- 23:55Speaker 1: it was a song. It wasn't like rocket science genius
- 23:57Speaker 1: level writing, but it was a song. It was number
- 23:59Speaker 1: one internationally. It got somebody a record deal, whatever it
- 24:02Speaker 1: may be. So I wrote that. I wrote a pilot
- 24:06Speaker 1: I sold to HBO back in 2017-ish. I wrote this play.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm writing more pilots. The next thing I haven't written
- 24:16Speaker 1: yet is a book. So I think I'm like one
- 24:18Speaker 1: of those people that has to accomplish every single thing.
- 24:20Speaker 1: So I think that's next. Probably not this year, maybe
- 24:24Speaker 1: next year. But also what I'm seeing too is every
- 24:26Speaker 1: book is now becoming a TV show. Or a movie.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So I'm like, all right, maybe I go and rewrite.
- 24:31Speaker 1: This is what I did with Mob Lives. Yeah. I
- 24:33Speaker 1: was trying to write scripted. Then I said, oh, it's
- 24:36Speaker 1: easier to go unscripted. I'll do that first and then
- 24:39Speaker 1: do the scripted. So now I'm like, oh, it's easy.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Everybody's getting a book. Let me do the book first
- 24:42Speaker 1: and go this way. But I go back and forth.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I don't even know what I'm saying. So when is
- 24:50Speaker 1: the next show now?
- 24:50Speaker 3: Tell us.
- 24:51Speaker 1: In two and a half weeks in Avenel. So there's
- 24:54Speaker 1: one on... September 12th and 13th.
- 24:57Speaker 3: That's in Jersey.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's in Jersey, right over the bridge from Staten Island.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So it's perfect for me. And then, and all the
- 25:05Speaker 1: New York, New Jersey people, it's easy to get to.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Then we go to Rhode Island. Little Roni. I'm coming
- 25:10Speaker 1: to work.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Alexia, when we're here and there. I'll be there, but
- 25:14Speaker 1: you're right. Yes.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Well, I'll be at Greece for the other two shows.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We'll be.
- 25:18Speaker 3: I will be.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm going to go to Greece, and I'm going to leave.
- 25:22Speaker 1: She's the new producer. I love it. Me, Jen. Well,
- 25:28Speaker 1: this year's set.
- 25:29Speaker 3: I'll come around.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Rhode Island is September 20th, and then we go back
- 25:32Speaker 1: to Jersey again, October 16th, 17th, 18th. Tarrytown looks like
- 25:37Speaker 1: it's going to be November 3rd. Where is that Tarrytown?
- 25:40Speaker 1: It's sort of west.
- 25:41Speaker 10: It's right before the, well, now it's, they're not the
- 25:44Speaker 10: Tappan Sea Bridge anymore.
- 25:45Speaker 6: Now it's the Mario Como Bridge now.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I think it's called that.
- 25:48Speaker 10: Yeah. My grandmother used to live there. That's why right
- 25:52Speaker 10: over there. But Tarrytown is beautiful.
- 25:54Speaker 6: It's a nice.
- 25:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 1: We've got a couple of spots in Long Island that
- 25:58Speaker 1: we're talking to, but I think from a, Structural and
- 26:03Speaker 1: professional feel. I want to end around right before Thanksgiving,
- 26:09Speaker 1: take the holidays off, do some more workshop and come
- 26:12Speaker 1: back in February with a perfect shot. That's right. We'll see.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That's great. We can get that. But from what I
- 26:19Speaker 1: hear in theater, it takes a while. So I'm not
- 26:21Speaker 1: behind right now. Yeah.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Not perfect for in my eyes yet. Yeah. That's great.
- 26:28Speaker 6: It takes time to develop.
- 26:29Speaker 1: How many years does it take to develop a play?
- 26:31Speaker 1: You're going to get out the kinks here and there.
- 26:33Speaker 10: A chorus line took how many years to develop before
- 26:36Speaker 10: they hit?
- 26:36Speaker 1: I don't know. Tell me, you know.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Like 10 years. Really?
- 26:40Speaker 10: Oh, yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Were they performing it at the same time, right? Yeah,
- 26:43Speaker 1: same time until they got it right. That's what I hear.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So I'm not so upset with myself because I am
- 26:47Speaker 1: a perfectionist.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Right?
- 26:49Speaker 10: That's the same thing. I mean, there were so many
- 26:51Speaker 10: different plays that took. This is an immersive, so it's
- 26:56Speaker 10: good because it's awesome.
- 26:58Speaker 6: I love that part of it.
- 27:00Speaker 1: When you fuck up, you just make something up.
- 27:01Speaker 3: And I heard Mr. Lewis was excellent at fathering.
- 27:09Speaker 6: Fathering. We don't want to make him a father, though.
- 27:12Speaker 3: What?
- 27:12Speaker 1: We don't want to make him a real father. Well,
- 27:14Speaker 1: he's a priest.
- 27:15Speaker 6: But no, he's great.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And we gave him a beef duck roll. Like, a
- 27:22Speaker 1: week before we went into, you know, the performance. And
- 27:26Speaker 1: I was like, let's go. Hopefully he remembers. And he
- 27:29Speaker 1: did amazing. It was great. It was great. His role really, like,
- 27:34Speaker 1: developed into something important.
- 27:35Speaker 6: Oh, he's amazing.
- 27:36Speaker 1: He cracks me up.
- 27:38Speaker 3: I hope I'm okay if I, like, reveal this.
- 27:40Speaker 4: But, like, genuinely one of my favorite lines in the show.
- 27:42Speaker 1: There's a moment where he takes the Bible.
- 27:44Speaker 6: He just goes, fuck this.
- 27:46Speaker 1: And he gets me every single time. Every single time.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Everyone is all, you know, cookies in the room. When
- 27:55Speaker 1: cookies in the room, somebody's good. Shut up. That's how
- 27:58Speaker 1: father Michael does. That's funny. I love it.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Of all people together, shut up. That's Michael Lewis.
- 28:04Speaker 1: She likes him. She takes it so personally. It's real.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I'm like, no, this is a play, Renee. Hi. It's
- 28:09Speaker 1: a play. Michael Lewis is not telling you to shut
- 28:12Speaker 1: the fuck up. Father Michael is telling you to fuck this.
- 28:15Speaker 1: She'll never get better, Michael, either. How can you? He's
- 28:18Speaker 1: the best. He's the best.
- 28:20Speaker 6: I'd like to bring up our other cast member for
- 28:22Speaker 6: a little less, but.
- 28:24Speaker 10: I would like to thank you for coming on today
- 28:28Speaker 10: and telling us about your role.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And I can't wait to hear you sing. I know.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I can't wait.
- 28:32Speaker 6: I mean, you gave me a great rendition.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Thank you so much. I love your accents. Your
- 28:37Speaker 1: vocal ability is unbelievable. You're beautiful, and I love your nails. Yeah,
- 28:42Speaker 1: and I obviously know some. You're wanting to talk, I see,
- 28:46Speaker 1: with all the sequins.
- 28:47Speaker 3: You got it all going on.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm doing a little bling bling. Well, my words had
- 28:50Speaker 1: to look a little blingy, right? But you keep losing
- 28:54Speaker 1: your A and your E. You went off again? No,
- 28:56Speaker 1: it's there. It's okay. It's good. All right. Give her
- 29:00Speaker 1: up for Lauren. Yes.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Welcome to the show, Miss Jackie.
- 29:06Speaker 1: How are you here?
- 29:07Speaker 6: Now, what role do you play, Jackie, in the play?
- 29:11Speaker 1: I play Gianna Marie. Gianna Marie. I'm the maid of honor.
- 29:16Speaker 8: And the funny thing is, I told them when I
- 29:18Speaker 8: got cast, I was like, my full.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Name is Jacqueline Marie Gianna Kraft. So Gianna is already
- 29:25Speaker 1: in me. How can you beat that?
- 29:29Speaker 6: I know.
- 29:30Speaker 1: It was good casting. That's amazing. You don't even have
- 29:34Speaker 1: to remember the name.
- 29:36Speaker 6: It's like a short name.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Symbathes.
- 29:39Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 29:40Speaker 6: I love that.
- 29:41Speaker 1: So tell us, like, how you feel being cast on,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, this show.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Show.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I mean, tell us everything. It's such a perfect fit
- 29:50Speaker 1: for me. I love it so much.
- 29:51Speaker 8: So I am 75% Italian already, so it is locked
- 29:55Speaker 8: and loaded.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Best percentage.
- 30:00Speaker 10: That's right.
- 30:02Speaker 5: What was that moment when he said, oh, good fellas,
- 30:04Speaker 5: when he said, what are you, Irish and Italian?
- 30:07Speaker 1: Only the good half. I'm 75 Italian and nothing else.
- 30:13Speaker 1: It doesn't even matter. I don't know about that.
- 30:16Speaker 8: And I love telling people about this show because it's
- 30:19Speaker 8: just like this run on sentence of like, it's this
- 30:22Speaker 8: improv comedy, Italian mob themed immersive show by the creator
- 30:28Speaker 8: of Mob Wives.
- 30:29Speaker 6: And I love how it's walking with your hands.
- 30:31Speaker 1: It's so neat.
- 30:33Speaker 8: Yeah, but I've been doing improv and stand-up and sketch
- 30:38Speaker 8: for 10 years or so now.
- 30:40Speaker 1: So it really is, it comes pretty easily.
- 30:45Speaker 8: And working with such incredible people and with incredible writing is,
- 30:50Speaker 8: you know.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I want to say, before we get too far away
- 30:54Speaker 1: from Lauren being on this stage, in my eyes, the
- 30:58Speaker 1: two of them are the next Dina Faye and Emil Pola.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I say it all the time. I know I'm going
- 31:02Speaker 1: to be right because I have, I'm going to pat
- 31:05Speaker 1: myself on the back. One more time. I'm doing that
- 31:07Speaker 1: a lot today. I have a scary judge of talent
- 31:11Speaker 1: and I see it. And I don't know when it's
- 31:13Speaker 1: going to happen, but it's going to happen. I could
- 31:14Speaker 1: see it. I could see it. I like that. I
- 31:16Speaker 1: like that. I mean, she, she set up our two leads.
- 31:20Speaker 1: So she was right about that. So, I mean, I think,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I think that was matchmaking. I can't believe that story too.
- 31:29Speaker 1: They're in love.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Kiss.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Belongs to the play. They weren't together yet, but they
- 31:34Speaker 1: had their first kiss before their real first kiss. So
- 31:37Speaker 1: I'm like, and her first kiss was an hour ago.
- 31:39Speaker 3: That's awful.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And they're going to say.
- 31:41Speaker 6: It all to you.
- 31:42Speaker 1: And they're like, yeah, but if they break up, they're
- 31:45Speaker 1: going to be fucking pissed, you know? Blah, blah, blah.
- 31:49Speaker 1: There's no divorce being allowed. That's so funny. No one
- 31:54Speaker 1: divorces in the mob. Divorced by the mob?
- 31:57Speaker 10: No.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Absolutely not. That doesn't happen. No.
- 32:01Speaker 3: So tell us about your character.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So I'm the maid of honor. I like how you
- 32:07Speaker 1: say it better before. I'm the maid of honor. I'm
- 32:12Speaker 1: a business. I don't want anybody messing with the bride.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Plot twists.
- 32:18Speaker 8: Everyone messes with the bride. But I am there with
- 32:22Speaker 8: fists ablaze and ready to go if anyone does. Except
- 32:25Speaker 8: when I'm in the bathroom.
- 32:27Speaker 1: With a groomsman. We won't talk about that.
- 32:30Speaker 8: So then they get distracted from my job. But otherwise,
- 32:34Speaker 8: I am there to back up the bride. Occasionally suggesting
- 32:39Speaker 8: we run away and leave. Like, that he's not good
- 32:41Speaker 8: enough for her. But ultimately, I am there for whatever
- 32:45Speaker 8: she wants to do. And she wants to marry Carlos.
- 32:51Speaker 3: And you're just behind her the whole way?
- 32:55Speaker 1: I am behind her the whole way. Except when I
- 32:57Speaker 1: suggest that she leave. She says she's going to call
- 33:02Speaker 1: Augie and Addie to make sure they kill you. And
- 33:04Speaker 1: they'll come pick us up and we can get out
- 33:06Speaker 1: of here, girl. It's probably a cool party tonight.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Do you sing in the show too? Oh, no.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I don't think they would like that. That's so funny. No,
- 33:18Speaker 1: but we do.
- 33:19Speaker 8: There's a lot of, well, there's a lot of dancing
- 33:22Speaker 8: first and foremost. It really feels like you're at a
- 33:26Speaker 8: family wedding and seeing from the actor's perspective, like, The
- 33:30Speaker 8: way that we're connecting with the audience. Like, I know, like,
- 33:34Speaker 8: from Saturday's show, I know what one audience member, what
- 33:37Speaker 8: they studied in college.
- 33:38Speaker 1: I know that it was Barbara's birthday.
- 33:40Speaker 8: Like, we are connecting with the audience throughout the show,
- 33:43Speaker 8: having real conversations.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I really love that. I love that. And that way, like, I.
- 33:47Speaker 8: Feel comfortable when it comes time to get up and
- 33:49Speaker 8: dance or, like, be interactive, be a part of the show.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Because then they feel like they're at a wedding. Exactly.
- 33:55Speaker 1: They feel like they know us at that point. Yeah.
- 33:58Speaker 1: It's really, it was just fun.
- 33:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Yeah. You know what I wanted to ask you? I
- 34:01Speaker 1: wasn't sure. Is this also like a sit down dinner?
- 34:04Speaker 1: So like you're.
- 34:05Speaker 5: Actually at a wedding eating like the chicken and the
- 34:09Speaker 5: macaroni and the salad.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Chickens are really a lot hard for us. You'll see
- 34:17Speaker 1: if it's the Rochelle.
- 34:19Speaker 2: So, yeah, so in most venues, some venues don't have
- 34:22Speaker 2: the food capabilities, but we try to find the ones
- 34:25Speaker 2: that do because we want it to feel like, yeah,
- 34:27Speaker 2: you're at the wedding, you're getting the first course, the
- 34:29Speaker 2: second course.
- 34:31Speaker 1: The one thing we haven't had yet was a Venetian honor,
- 34:33Speaker 1: which is really my favorite, so I'm going to work
- 34:34Speaker 1: on that. But, yes, you get your full course meal,
- 34:37Speaker 1: your three-course meal, and you literally are dancing in between.
- 34:42Speaker 1: We have Vinny. Oh, my God, he's an amazing singer.
- 34:45Speaker 1: So picture being at an Italian wedding and here comes
- 34:48Speaker 1: Karamia and what else? Volare.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Volare, yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 1: So amazing. Oh, I love that. It's so much. It's literally, Renee,
- 34:56Speaker 1: what did she call it the other day? Magical. So
- 35:02Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, I feel that. I feel that. Because
- 35:05Speaker 1: there are so many moments where like your hairs are
- 35:08Speaker 1: standing up and then there's so many moments like that.
- 35:10Speaker 1: It's fucking nuts. So it's a. Emotional. And then at
- 35:16Speaker 1: the end, you're writing down, this one gave $ 100. This
- 35:17Speaker 1: one gave $ 50.
- 35:19Speaker 5: The chicken sucked.
- 35:24Speaker 6: I'm taking him on a fast.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's awkward, y'all.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Yeah, well, this Venetian hour, there was no Venetian hour.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I was taking all the $ 100.
- 35:31Speaker 1: It's so funny. Go to a wedding. How much should
- 35:35Speaker 1: we give? Well, how much should they give you? So
- 35:37Speaker 1: we got that. Stay open. What's your rule of thumb, right?
- 35:43Speaker 1: Because I hear different. It's like, hey, you definitely have
- 35:46Speaker 1: to match what they gave you, but it's also like
- 35:48Speaker 1: you've got to kind of estimate what the cost per
- 35:50Speaker 1: plate is and double it. Like, there's so many rules
- 35:53Speaker 1: in an Italian wedding. Oh, they haven't opened up. We've
- 35:55Speaker 1: got to give them more money. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:58Speaker 6: But you want to know something?
- 36:00Speaker 10: It's funny because this day and age, people don't do
- 36:04Speaker 10: weddings like Italians do weddings.
- 36:05Speaker 1: No.
- 36:06Speaker 3: They don't.
- 36:06Speaker 1: The funniest part is my son just got engaged, 27
- 36:09Speaker 1: years old, and I'm thinking, He wants to have like
- 36:12Speaker 1: a club wedding, of course, because I'm still 27 and
- 36:15Speaker 1: may have. I would want to have a club wedding.
- 36:18Speaker 1: He wants a traditional sit down, a tally way. And
- 36:23Speaker 1: he wants the finger from my show. I love that.
- 36:26Speaker 1: Then he at his wedding. I'm like, what? Who are you?
- 36:30Speaker 1: I'm like, are you like my son? My son is
- 36:32Speaker 1: so traditional. It's hilarious. I love it, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's cute. It's cute. It's shocking. It's cute. But no one,
- 36:38Speaker 1: you're right, nobody does weddings like that. No, they don't.
- 36:41Speaker 1: It's also, I just read two days ago, because now
- 36:43Speaker 1: I'm all into the wedding stuff because I have to
- 36:46Speaker 1: go through it with him, that somebody just made a
- 36:48Speaker 1: very controversial, who was it? It was in People Magazine
- 36:54Speaker 1: or something. It was controversial that no one should get married.
- 36:57Speaker 1: No one should have big weddings anymore. They're too costly.
- 36:59Speaker 1: It's a waste of freaking money. And they ended up
- 37:01Speaker 1: divorced in three years anyway. And I forgot who it was,
- 37:05Speaker 1: but I'm like, hey, Justin, why don't you read this?
- 37:08Speaker 1: Because you should be the one from power instead of money.
- 37:12Speaker 10: What do you make me spend all this money? Make
- 37:15Speaker 10: sure you guys are going to stay together.
- 37:17Speaker 1: No, not even that part. For me, it's like, okay,
- 37:20Speaker 1: my hair. I can't even say who it is because
- 37:22Speaker 1: she'll kill me. Somebody I know is having a wedding
- 37:25Speaker 1: and it's costing her $ 120, 000 for one day. You could
- 37:30Speaker 1: put that down on your house. Like, to me, it
- 37:33Speaker 1: makes no sense. But I get it. I was never that, like,
- 37:36Speaker 1: girl dreaming of, you know, the princess bride wedding. I
- 37:40Speaker 1: went to City Hall and then got divorced five months later.
- 37:44Speaker 3: And I rented City Hall too. I wanted the house.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I said, my grandparents said, do you want a house
- 37:48Speaker 3: or do you.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Want a wedding?
- 37:50Speaker 6: I said, give me the money for the house. And
- 37:51Speaker 6: I took the house.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Hello, that's what I would answer. And he did.
- 37:54Speaker 6: But I already had, I was already, he was married before.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I was married before. I had a baby already.
- 37:59Speaker 5: So I was like, I didn't.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Have a real, I never had a real wedding.
- 38:05Speaker 3: But I have three girls that I'm.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Going to have. See, now you're going to live vicariously.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I'll live vicariously with them. And spend all this money,
- 38:13Speaker 1: give them a house. You've got 17 of them.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Well, no.
- 38:17Speaker 1: She's got a house, an empty house, in the wrong way,
- 38:21Speaker 1: a house in Queens. Give them a house for each kid.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I said, we're going to have to buy a house.
- 38:27Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 38:30Speaker 3: Well, I would rather give them money to go buy
- 38:33Speaker 3: a house.
- 38:35Speaker 10: But we did have a wedding plan that never came
- 38:37Speaker 10: to pass.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Oh, yes. Yeah, that was fun.
- 38:42Speaker 3: That was a fun time.
- 38:44Speaker 6: We didn't get our money back.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Oh, boy.
- 38:46Speaker 2: No.
- 38:47Speaker 1: It happened to my friend, and yeah, it's terrible. But listen,
- 38:52Speaker 1: they want the bride wants a wedding, and I respect that, too,
- 38:55Speaker 1: at the same time. I just happened to... No. When
- 39:00Speaker 1: it comes time for the house, they're going to be like, oh,
- 39:02Speaker 1: we should have got the house. But I could be wrong.
- 39:05Speaker 1: But I had a great Venetian owl. We all danced
- 39:08Speaker 1: and sang. Can we do that in your new backyard?
- 39:11Speaker 10: No.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Tell them just to go to the show and you could.
- 39:14Speaker 10: I was going to say that.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Renee became an official officiant so they can go to
- 39:20Speaker 1: the show and Renee can marry them at the show. Yeah,
- 39:23Speaker 1: that's their big Italian mob wedding. I mean, that would
- 39:26Speaker 1: be great. And speaking of that, We're going to start
- 39:30Speaker 1: offering that to our guests if they want to come
- 39:32Speaker 1: watch the show. And if you really want to get married,
- 39:35Speaker 1: you can. That's wild. That's wild. I love that. The
- 39:40Speaker 1: two leads of the show, they're really worried that Renee's
- 39:43Speaker 1: going to marry them during the show. It's like, goodness,
- 39:47Speaker 1: that's so funny. They're like, don't let Brene get up there, okay?
- 39:52Speaker 5: So this show must be right up your alley because
- 39:54Speaker 5: you mentioned you were in comedy, stand-up comedy.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 5: So this is, like, you know, like, how did you feel, like,
- 40:00Speaker 5: getting cast in this?
- 40:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it was so cool. I remember the
- 40:04Speaker 1: first rehearsal.
- 40:05Speaker 8: You were like, here is this script that I have, but, like,
- 40:09Speaker 8: feel free to improvise. And it was such a wonderful, like,
- 40:12Speaker 8: collaborative process of pitching jokes. And even, like, while we're running.
- 40:16Speaker 1: The shows, I.
- 40:18Speaker 8: get so much joy and exhilaration from just like coming
- 40:21Speaker 8: up with a new joke at each night for like
- 40:24Speaker 8: different moments.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Um, yeah, that part is really great, but yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 1: I've been.
- 40:28Speaker 8: I've been doing standup around New York city and mostly
- 40:30Speaker 8: sketch comedy.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Um, so I'm. Any other shows you want to talk?
- 40:38Speaker 11: I mean, I do stand up regularly, uh, throughout New
- 40:43Speaker 11: York city. And I also have my own, um, social
- 40:47Speaker 11: media show it's called serving stories i'm a server and
- 40:50Speaker 11: i interview other servers oh and we talk we dish
- 40:55Speaker 11: on the serving uh industry and i actually had lauren
- 40:58Speaker 11: on the show um so it's it's basically like a
- 41:02Speaker 11: little bit of comedy a little bit of.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Gossip um that's my current baby and it's all It's
- 41:07Speaker 1: all real. It's all real. People will ask me, like, oh,
- 41:10Speaker 1: who made up that story? I'm like, that is real.
- 41:12Speaker 1: We don't need to make up anything. It's like, what's
- 41:14Speaker 1: in it?
- 41:14Speaker 6: It's like, what's in it?
- 41:15Speaker 1: It's like, what's in it?
- 41:15Speaker 3: It's like, what's in it?
- 41:17Speaker 6: It's like, what's in it?
- 41:18Speaker 1: It's like, what's in it? On Instagram. And then Serving
- 41:30Speaker 1: Stories Show is my show on Instagram. Oh, I cannot
- 41:33Speaker 1: wait to watch that. I think you can find Lauren
- 41:35Speaker 1: at Lauren Updike. U-P-D-Y-K-E is the last name. And Jen,
- 41:41Speaker 1: how else would we find you? Find me. I'm a corner. No.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I'm a corner. You can find me at Jen Graziano,
- 41:49Speaker 1: at Jen Graziano with two N. And I think on Facebook,
- 41:53Speaker 1: because I'm Facebook age. Oh. My full name is... Well,
- 41:58Speaker 1: that's great. I'm still Facebook. I love Facebook. I do, too.
- 42:02Speaker 3: What about MySpace is coming back?
- 42:04Speaker 1: I'm not even out of MySpace. I'm probably going there.
- 42:07Speaker 1: But I do want to say to her point, she
- 42:09Speaker 1: does have a lot of great jokes, and she's, like,
- 42:11Speaker 1: in rehearsal making them, and I'm writing them in the script. Oh,
- 42:14Speaker 1: we're adding that one. So a lot of her stuff,
- 42:16Speaker 1: a lot of everyone's stuff made it into the script
- 42:19Speaker 1: and the rewrites, and so... It is very cool. I
- 42:21Speaker 1: love that. I love that. It's collaborative.
- 42:23Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I love that. This is really, really nice. I love
- 42:27Speaker 1: it so much.
- 42:27Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 42:28Speaker 1: That's exciting. Very exciting. I'm excited that you were here today.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I am so excited to be here. I'm excited to
- 42:35Speaker 1: see you. I know. I'm excited to meet you all today. And,
- 42:42Speaker 1: you know, it's a thrill. I love what you're doing.
- 42:44Speaker 5: I look forward to seeing it live and in person
- 42:47Speaker 5: and seeing what you guys do next. You know, all
- 42:50Speaker 5: of you with With all the careers and all the
- 42:52Speaker 5: aspirations and dreams. And I'm so, you know, happy to
- 42:56Speaker 5: meet you guys.
- 42:57Speaker 1: So it is what, 2026? By 2028, you'll be seeing
- 43:01Speaker 1: them on SNL. I believe you. I'm telling you, I
- 43:05Speaker 1: can feel it in my bones.
- 43:06Speaker 7: Wow.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I love it. We're going to call Lauren Michaels. Lauren Michaels, right?
- 43:11Speaker 1: Lauren Michaels. Come on, Lauren Michaels. Get on it. Don't
- 43:16Speaker 1: miss out. Yes. For now, go to MarriedByTheMob.com, get tickets,
- 43:21Speaker 1: and you'll see them there. That's right.
- 43:23Speaker 3: And the next show, again, is about it.

- 43:46Speaker 1: They're really cool. I love how everybody looks in it.
- 43:48Speaker 1: It's exciting. Get your tickets, people. Get your tickets. You
- 43:51Speaker 1: cannot miss this show, right? Is it ever bright too?
- 43:54Speaker 1: Can they miss it? Event bright? No.
- 43:55Speaker 6: Sometimes I do that.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I don't know. You know, am I supposed to be
- 43:58Speaker 1: doing that? I don't know either. Sometimes I do. You
- 44:03Speaker 1: should put it on there too. I know. But the
- 44:05Speaker 1: thing is, so sometimes depending on the venue, their ticketing
- 44:08Speaker 1: process goes straight to them or my ticketing process goes
- 44:12Speaker 1: straight to me. So it kind of. fucks everything up
- 44:14Speaker 1: in a way people don't know where to go. Try
- 44:16Speaker 1: and keep it in one way. Alright, well just go
- 44:20Speaker 1: to the website. Or go to Instagram. Or at Married
- 44:25Speaker 1: by the Mop. Or at Married by the Mop. Jen,
- 44:27Speaker 1: it's been so fun co-hosting with you today. Thank you
- 44:30Speaker 1: for having me. I love you so much.
- 44:32Speaker 3: And now I get to interview you just by yourself.
- 44:35Speaker 1: So exciting! I have to sit in traffic.
- 44:43Speaker 3: Thank you for coming on today. It was so nice
- 44:45Speaker 3: meeting you.
- 44:46Speaker 6: Jen, we love you.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Thank you for being here today. Everybody, congratulations. Thank you.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you so much. And 227 is going to
- 44:53Speaker 3: be the year for everybody.
- 44:54Speaker 1: That's right. I feel it. 2027, baby. I feel it.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel it.
- 44:58Speaker 6: And thank everybody for tuning in today.
- 45:00Speaker 3: And please hit the subscribe button. YouTube, Apple, Spotify, or
- 45:04Speaker 3: else I'm sending the whole cast after you, too.
- 45:06Speaker 1: That's in the box.
- 45:07Speaker 3: That's a bonus, baby. Have a great day.
