Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person. I guess Michelle, you came back.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Oh my god, did you watch episode fifteen and then
- 0:08Speaker 1: come to me to talk about it? You really want
- 0:12Speaker 1: to dissect it twice? Oh my god. I hope that
- 0:17Speaker 1: you're having a really okay thing, whatever the thing is,
- 0:21Speaker 1: like day thing or the night thing or whenever you're
- 0:24Speaker 1: listening to this, because yeah, I'm not feeling so worried
- 0:28Speaker 1: about stuff right now. It's you know, seventy six degrees outside,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and it's November, and you know, we did that thing
- 0:37Speaker 1: that the US does when we vote for new president.
- 0:40Speaker 1: So that's been fun, you know. And on top of
- 0:45Speaker 1: all of that, I had to sit down and take
- 0:48Speaker 1: notes on episode fifteen of Banana Fish, and now I
- 0:52Speaker 1: have to I have to, I guess, convey it to
- 0:57Speaker 1: you and potentially defend the actions of what is probably
- 1:03Speaker 1: my favorite anime character, which just doesn't really sound like
- 1:06Speaker 1: a lot of fun. So this has been This is
- 1:10Speaker 1: just not a great time for me. So we're just
- 1:13Speaker 1: gonna get right into it. But thank you for coming
- 1:16Speaker 1: back after what I'm sure was a catastrophe for you,
- 1:21Speaker 1: you know, watching episode fifteen. So yeah, let's do it.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Before I changed my mind. So episode fifteen is called
- 1:29Speaker 1: The Garden of Eden, Come on, really, which is I
- 1:35Speaker 1: mean the title of a bunch of things. But what
- 1:38Speaker 1: they were going for is the title of an unfinished
- 1:41Speaker 1: Ernest Hemingway novel. It was actually his last novel and
- 1:44Speaker 1: it was published after his death, unfinished, and you know,
- 1:47Speaker 1: it has absolutely nothing to do with banana fish, but whatever.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So if you remember from the end of the last episode,
- 1:54Speaker 1: Ash might be dead, I mean that's what they were saying,
- 1:58Speaker 1: Like on the news they said that he died on
- 2:01Speaker 1: the way to the National Mental Health Institute or whatever
- 2:04Speaker 1: it's called, which we know that he made it there,
- 2:07Speaker 1: but we don't know that he's not dead. So that's
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean kind of where we start off. We go
- 2:15Speaker 1: to yue Lung, who is staring at the TV and
- 2:19Speaker 1: the news report like just dumbfounded, and we hear a
- 2:23Speaker 1: reporter saying the death of ash Lynx could lead to
- 2:26Speaker 1: a new conflict between gangs, and yue Lung's like, it
- 2:30Speaker 1: can't be. He then hears a crash and he opened
- 2:34Speaker 1: a door to a darkened room and gasps because he
- 2:37Speaker 1: sees that the window is broken, and he thinks did
- 2:41Speaker 1: he And then we get a quick cut to someone's sneakers,
- 2:45Speaker 1: and we see Ag like run at him and like
- 2:47Speaker 1: grab him, and AG's like, don't move. He holds a
- 2:53Speaker 1: shard of glass to yue Lung's neck and we see
- 2:56Speaker 1: that his hand is also bleeding from I guess punching
- 2:58Speaker 1: the window out. Yue Lung sees this as well, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: he's like, you're bleeding. If Ash finds out I made
- 3:05Speaker 1: you bleed, he'll probably and AG cuts him off and
- 3:08Speaker 1: holds the shards closer to his neck and says shut up.
- 3:11Speaker 1: At this point, we see one of the staff kind
- 3:14Speaker 1: of hanging out in the doorway, and then three guys
- 3:17Speaker 1: walk in and the first guy's like Uelong, sir, and
- 3:21Speaker 1: AG says, step back or I'll kill him. Put the
- 3:24Speaker 1: guns down and step away. They do not look pleased
- 3:28Speaker 1: by this, but yue Lung says do as he says,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and they reluctantly set their guns down on the floor
- 3:34Speaker 1: and back away. We then go to I guess them
- 3:37Speaker 1: in the hallway because Yuelung is pressing the button for
- 3:39Speaker 1: the elevator as AG holds a gun to his back.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I guess from one of the dudes that put his
- 3:44Speaker 1: gun on the floor Yuelung in Chinese says, don't worry.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I have a plan, and AG's like, what did you
- 3:52Speaker 1: tell them? Uelung says, I just told them not to
- 3:56Speaker 1: hurt you. Sure. The elevator door opens to reveal Sing inside,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and he gasps and he like prepares to fight, and
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yue Lung shakes his head. Sing just kind of stares
- 4:07Speaker 1: at him in confusion, and he steps out of the
- 4:10Speaker 1: elevator and juey Lung and Ag get in and the
- 4:12Speaker 1: doors close. When the doors are closed, Sing is like
- 4:16Speaker 1: shit and he runs off, like maybe to find another
- 4:19Speaker 1: elevator to take or stares or something. And as he
- 4:23Speaker 1: starts to leave, one of the guards is like wait, Sing,
- 4:25Speaker 1: but he doesn't stop. I guess he gets to another
- 4:28Speaker 1: elevator because we see him get off an elevator into
- 4:33Speaker 1: the parking garage right as Yui Lung's car speeds away,
- 4:38Speaker 1: and he's like, shit, I won't let you get away.
- 4:41Speaker 1: He at this point gets on his motorcycle because I
- 4:43Speaker 1: forgot he has a motorcycle, and he takes off after them.
- 4:46Speaker 1: He is fourteen. Why does he have a motorcycle? Doesn't matter.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Then we go to the opening. Yay, so I noticed
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the opening that there is a lot of snow,
- 4:57Speaker 1: which I assume just refers to the snows of La Njaro,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and that makes me sad. I guess. The car stops
- 5:05Speaker 1: on the street somewhere and Ag gets out. He kind
- 5:07Speaker 1: of just starts to walk off. Yuelung gets out of
- 5:10Speaker 1: the car as well, and he's like, where are you going?
- 5:13Speaker 1: Ash is dead? Age stops. Yuelong begins to walk up
- 5:17Speaker 1: to him, and he says, there's nowhere for you to go. Oh.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Ag turns back and he's like, I won't believe it.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Something's going on. Ue Lung says, let me tell you
- 5:27Speaker 1: one thing. Ag. If Ash is alive like you say
- 5:30Speaker 1: he is, I'm gonna be his enemy. I've decided that
- 5:32Speaker 1: right now. He and I are like Yin and Yang.
- 5:35Speaker 1: We both had to be strong to survive, even though
- 5:37Speaker 1: we chose different paths. I will become a formidable foe
- 5:40Speaker 1: for him. So let me be clear. I will continue
- 5:44Speaker 1: to come after you for as long as you're his
- 5:46Speaker 1: only weak point. AG lifts the gun and he points
- 5:51Speaker 1: it at Yuelong and Uelung's like, shoot me, kill me
- 5:55Speaker 1: for Ash, Yeah, kill him. AG's expression is steadfast in
- 6:00Speaker 1: his resolve, but he doesn't move, He doesn't try to
- 6:03Speaker 1: pull the trigger or anything, and yue Lung says, what's wrong?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Ash should pull the trigger without any hesitation. Ag starts
- 6:11Speaker 1: to lower the gun and he sighs, in my interpretation,
- 6:14Speaker 1: maybe a little bit hurt about the mischaracterization of Ash here,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and Yuelun continues, you won't get your hands dirty even
- 6:20Speaker 1: if it's for Ash. Huh, geeze, dude, why do you
- 6:23Speaker 1: want to die so bad? Ag says, you're wrong. I
- 6:28Speaker 1: just can't shoot someone who isn't resisting. Yue Lung's like,
- 6:33Speaker 1: what's the difference. Ash wouldn't hesitate to get blood on
- 6:36Speaker 1: his hands for you. He'd hurt himself, so you don't
- 6:38Speaker 1: get hurt. It's not fair, is it? It's not fair
- 6:42Speaker 1: at all? Why you? Ag looks shocked for a second.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Then he turns away and he says, you wouldn't understand.
- 6:54Speaker 1: You never will, and he takes off running. Fuck yuel
- 7:00Speaker 1: just stands there for a moment with the wind blowing
- 7:02Speaker 1: through his hair, and we hear Sing say why'd you
- 7:06Speaker 1: let him go? We see that Sing is standing a
- 7:08Speaker 1: little bit behind him, and he continues, you could have
- 7:12Speaker 1: done anything. Uelung is just like, leave me alone for
- 7:16Speaker 1: a while, and Sing says, you meant it when you
- 7:19Speaker 1: told him to shoot you. Do you really want to
- 7:21Speaker 1: die that much? Uelung turns his head and says, I
- 7:27Speaker 1: asked you to leave me alone. And he turns his
- 7:29Speaker 1: head away again, and Sing is like, is it true
- 7:34Speaker 1: that ash died? Really not respecting he's leave me alone here,
- 7:38Speaker 1: but u Along says, unfortunately, I'm not a psychic. He
- 7:41Speaker 1: starts to walk away. Sing starts to head in the
- 7:45Speaker 1: other direction, and then he stops and he sighs and
- 7:48Speaker 1: looks back and he's kind of like flushing slightly. Maybe,
- 7:53Speaker 1: I guess, and he thinks I can't just leave him alone,
- 7:57Speaker 1: and he runs to catch up with you a long awe.
- 8:01Speaker 1: The scene is a good dude, I think. I guess
- 8:05Speaker 1: Uie Lung has problems anyway. We cut to outside of
- 8:10Speaker 1: an airport, which I think is JFK International Airport because
- 8:14Speaker 1: thoughts in New York could also be Newark. But I
- 8:17Speaker 1: did look up the background and it looks like JFK.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I've never been to JFK, I don't think, so, I
- 8:22Speaker 1: don't know. So there's a bunch of people, like in
- 8:24Speaker 1: a crowd gathering around someone and we're like kind of
- 8:28Speaker 1: far back in the scene so we can't really see
- 8:30Speaker 1: who they are. And one of the people says, mister Golesine,
- 8:33Speaker 1: what do you have to say about the article in
- 8:35Speaker 1: today's Newsweek that accuses you of tax evasion? A second
- 8:38Speaker 1: person says, is it true? The irs is on the case.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Goalsine is walking past like a swarm of reporters and
- 8:46Speaker 1: Gregory is also there, and he's like holding them off
- 8:48Speaker 1: and he's like, no comments. Then we hear Max say,
- 8:52Speaker 1: so we meet again. Golsane stops and Max says, I'm
- 8:56Speaker 1: the one who wrote the Newsweek article, and Goalsan's like you,
- 9:00Speaker 1: Max continues, and about the death of a boy named
- 9:04Speaker 1: ash Lynx. I'd like to request an interview with you
- 9:07Speaker 1: concerning it. Golesine, There's something happens with his eyes, like
- 9:12Speaker 1: there's just the slightest hinge of confusion or surprise when
- 9:16Speaker 1: he says that, and he's like, I don't know what
- 9:19Speaker 1: you're talking about, Please excuse me. The reporters clamor after
- 9:23Speaker 1: him as he walks away and gets in the car.
- 9:26Speaker 1: So just gonna stop there and say, fuck yeah, Max,
- 9:29Speaker 1: Oh my god. He is so fucking brave to approach
- 9:34Speaker 1: Golesian like that, who almost fucking murdered him. Super cool,
- 9:38Speaker 1: really really liking Max's development anyway. In the car goalsine
- 9:44Speaker 1: to I guess, Gregory says, what's going on? Ash is dead? Yeah,
- 9:49Speaker 1: he didn't know. I want to know the truth now.
- 9:53Speaker 1: We then go to the mental health institutes. We see
- 9:57Speaker 1: like the outside of it, and then a voice says,
- 10:00Speaker 1: the NYPD is so eager about their work coming to
- 10:03Speaker 1: witness an autopsy of an offender that's not even in
- 10:06Speaker 1: their jurisdiction. And we see that as FBI guy one
- 10:09Speaker 1: and two. I guess, I mean they're not really FBI,
- 10:12Speaker 1: but whatever, And they are standing with Charlie Jenkins, Max
- 10:18Speaker 1: and George in a hall but like looks like it's
- 10:20Speaker 1: outside of an operating room, Like there's a big window
- 10:23Speaker 1: and you can kind of see in, and Jenkins says,
- 10:26Speaker 1: thank you for letting us attend. The first FBI guy says,
- 10:30Speaker 1: but you're still outsider, so you have to watch from
- 10:32Speaker 1: the window. And George is like, it's my right to
- 10:35Speaker 1: witness the autopsy from inside. Ash is my client. FBI
- 10:40Speaker 1: guy says, sure, but it's not a pretty sight. He's
- 10:43Speaker 1: kind of smirking, because he's always smirking, And then we
- 10:48Speaker 1: cut to the lights above the kind of operating table
- 10:51Speaker 1: thing as it turns on, and a doctor says, let's begin.
- 10:56Speaker 1: The doctor uncovers what is pretty clearly Ash's body, and
- 11:00Speaker 1: everybody just gasps, and the doctor says, we'll begin the autopsy.
- 11:06Speaker 1: One of the doctors makes an incision in Ash's chest
- 11:10Speaker 1: and it kind of begins to bleed, which I don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: think you really do after you're dead, but that's okay,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I understand. We then cut to outside, I guess, and
- 11:18Speaker 1: George has his hand over his face, clearly stressed, and
- 11:21Speaker 1: he's sitting on a bench with everyone standing around him,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and he says, there's no mistake that was Ash. Jenkins
- 11:28Speaker 1: is like, Max, I know how you feel, but at
- 11:30Speaker 1: least our trip here wasn't totally futile. Max is like, yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 1: I'm positive now he's alive. What George is like, wake up? Max?
- 11:40Speaker 1: You saw him? Max says, I can tell he's like
- 11:44Speaker 1: a son to me. Uh, that was just some other
- 11:47Speaker 1: boy that looked like him. Jenkins and Charlie are staring
- 11:50Speaker 1: at Max like he's lost his mind from grief, and
- 11:53Speaker 1: Max continues, that's why they didn't let the captain and
- 11:56Speaker 1: Charlie in. You two are too used to working with
- 11:58Speaker 1: corpses to be fooled. Charlie like, but why would they
- 12:01Speaker 1: go through all of that? And Max says, I don't know,
- 12:05Speaker 1: but I guess they want him alive for the time being.
- 12:09Speaker 1: We see that doctor Mannerheim is standing in the hospital
- 12:12Speaker 1: looking out the window at this interaction. He kind of
- 12:15Speaker 1: says hmm, and he walks away. Then we cut to
- 12:18Speaker 1: an elevator shap like below an elevator or above it
- 12:21Speaker 1: as it lowers, you know, or goes up, I'm not
- 12:25Speaker 1: really sure, depends on the perspective. Then the elevator doors open,
- 12:29Speaker 1: revealing doctor Mannerheim's smirking face, and he walks into a
- 12:33Speaker 1: room where like these two dudes are looking at a
- 12:35Speaker 1: computer screen. Maybe it's like you can't really see it,
- 12:38Speaker 1: but that's probably what it is. And then there's like
- 12:40Speaker 1: a glass partition wall in front of them, and doctor
- 12:42Speaker 1: Mannerheim says, how are you feeling? And we see ash, oh,
- 12:46Speaker 1: he's definitely alive, and he has some electrodes like on
- 12:49Speaker 1: his forehead and his temple, and then like two on
- 12:51Speaker 1: his chest, and he says, how do you think Doctor
- 12:54Speaker 1: Mannerheim's like, bear with me just for a bit. We're
- 12:56Speaker 1: just doing some simple tests. Ash is sitting like, Anna,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I don't know chair thing, and there is a big
- 13:05Speaker 1: computer monitor and it like moves towards him like it's
- 13:09Speaker 1: gonna show him something. And one of the guys who's
- 13:13Speaker 1: in the room with Mannerheim says, beginning the bas test
- 13:16Speaker 1: level one. At this point, the FBI agents or whatever
- 13:20Speaker 1: they are, walk into the room to observe too. Somebody says,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and I don't know who, first question, choose the net
- 13:28Speaker 1: of the polyhedron showne. I don't even know what that means.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Ash looks annoyed and he's like it's a The first
- 13:35Speaker 1: FBI guy, who is the one that always talks, says,
- 13:38Speaker 1: what is all this? Was it really worth faking his death?
- 13:41Speaker 1: Probably not? Doctor Manheim's like absolutely, he could be the
- 13:45Speaker 1: key to solving our greatest problem. If we're gonna kill
- 13:48Speaker 1: him anyway, we should at least make good use of him. First.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Stop using Ash please. We then cut to Golzine, who
- 13:57Speaker 1: is sitting at a desk somewhere and Gregory is standing
- 14:01Speaker 1: in front of him and Goldsan says the National Mental
- 14:04Speaker 1: Health Institute. Gregory's like, yes, by Senator Kippard's orders, the
- 14:09Speaker 1: news of his death was just for the media. Golsing's like,
- 14:12Speaker 1: damn that Kippard. I raised that boy. Okay, that project too.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I won't let him have his way back to the institute.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Some guy, I guess one of the guys who was
- 14:24Speaker 1: monitoring all this, says the accuracy up to level ten
- 14:28Speaker 1: was at ninety eight point seven percent. His IQ was
- 14:30Speaker 1: over two hundred. Fuck so side note really quick. I
- 14:35Speaker 1: was wondering why there was like a discrepancy between his
- 14:38Speaker 1: IQ being one to eighty and his IQ being two hundred,
- 14:42Speaker 1: since the tests were done so close together. But I
- 14:44Speaker 1: think what happened is Ash just never finished the test
- 14:47Speaker 1: right when he was in the hospital, So I guess
- 14:50Speaker 1: two hundred is closer. But geez anyway, Doctor Mannerheim's like, wonderful.
- 14:56Speaker 1: We couldn't have asked for a better situation. We then
- 14:59Speaker 1: cut to his handcuffed wrists and it looks like from
- 15:03Speaker 1: the swaying of them that he's walking, and Ash says,
- 15:08Speaker 1: what's this you wanted to show me? He is being
- 15:10Speaker 1: walked down a hall by I guess like two orderlies
- 15:13Speaker 1: or whatever you would call those people who are behind him,
- 15:16Speaker 1: and doctor Mannheim is in front leading the way. Doctor
- 15:19Speaker 1: Mannerheim says, you'll see in a minute. Ash is looking
- 15:23Speaker 1: around and he thinks security cameras and no windows. He
- 15:27Speaker 1: then kind of stumbles and falls, and Mannerheim says, are
- 15:32Speaker 1: you okay? The orderly is going to help him up,
- 15:35Speaker 1: and he's just like, yeah, I'm sorry, I just got
- 15:37Speaker 1: a little dizzy. As he starts to walk again, he thinks,
- 15:41Speaker 1: soundproof floors. But why, come to think of it, Griffin
- 15:46Speaker 1: was really sensitive to sounds, but it can't be we
- 15:51Speaker 1: then hear someone say, doctor Mannerheim, and they stop and
- 15:55Speaker 1: there's this really big dude standing ahead of them, like
- 15:58Speaker 1: really big, like he's tall, and he's kind of like
- 16:01Speaker 1: he's not fat, but he's like kind of muscular. He
- 16:04Speaker 1: just looks like a big guy and he is just
- 16:08Speaker 1: incredibly blank expression on his face, and he says, hello,
- 16:13Speaker 1: how are you. Doctor Mannerheim says, Hi, Adam, I'm glad
- 16:17Speaker 1: to see you're doing well. Let me introduce you to Ash. Adam,
- 16:22Speaker 1: who still looks really pretty expressionless, says hello, Ash, how
- 16:26Speaker 1: are you? Ash? Inhales sharply and looks pretty concerned, and
- 16:31Speaker 1: he's just like good. Adam then just kind of brushes
- 16:36Speaker 1: past them without saying anything else. And doctor Manorheim says,
- 16:40Speaker 1: he's actually a ruthless criminal that raped and killed three nuns.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And Ash is just like what Mannerheim continues, doesn't look
- 16:49Speaker 1: like it. Huh, that's all thanks to the treatment he
- 16:52Speaker 1: received here. He starts to walk again. Come this way.
- 16:56Speaker 1: They lead Ash to a room with really really great lighting.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Looks really nice again, I huge fan of anytime we
- 17:03Speaker 1: have like a lighting filter. And this room is filled
- 17:07Speaker 1: with like you know, cylindrical tanks that have frames in them. Kay.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And doctor Mannerheim's like surprised. They're all partial samples of
- 17:20Speaker 1: human brains. I figured human brains are extremely complex. It's
- 17:24Speaker 1: system of miracles. What now about Adam? We treated him
- 17:29Speaker 1: with a certain drug. Ash gasps, because you know, and
- 17:34Speaker 1: Mennerheim continues, yes, it's a drug you know very well.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It's called banana fish. Oh fuck. Then we get this
- 17:40Speaker 1: really intense Dutch angle of Mannerheim, and he says, but
- 17:44Speaker 1: here we just call it b one. Ashes, like you're
- 17:48Speaker 1: using criminals as guinea pigs. He's kind of sweating. But
- 17:52Speaker 1: if you've noticed, I don't say the characters are sweating
- 17:54Speaker 1: very much in this because they're almost always sweating. It's
- 17:57Speaker 1: like I'd have to say it all the time. I
- 17:58Speaker 1: don't know what it's up with a key Yoshida and sweat,
- 18:00Speaker 1: but they're like always sweating. So anyway, Mannorheim says, you
- 18:06Speaker 1: people overreact when you hear human experimentation, but where would
- 18:09Speaker 1: medicine be without it? You get that, right? Hugh Ash
- 18:14Speaker 1: kind of half smirks, and he's like, I thought that
- 18:16Speaker 1: stuff only happened in movies and books. Let me cut
- 18:20Speaker 1: in here for a second, so I'll get to this
- 18:22Speaker 1: at the end and I'll talk about this a little
- 18:24Speaker 1: bit more. But this conversation is really really dumbed down
- 18:27Speaker 1: in the anime, and I definitely want to talk about it,
- 18:29Speaker 1: but I'm gonna wait and not mess up the flow
- 18:31Speaker 1: of this anyway. Mannerheim half laughs and he's like, b
- 18:34Speaker 1: one is this superb drug, but it's not without side effects.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Luckily we've succeeded in removing the violence associated with it.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Adam is proof of that. It was very difficult, but
- 18:45Speaker 1: your friend here really helped us out. Ash gasps and
- 18:49Speaker 1: his eyes widen as he looks over at the brain
- 18:52Speaker 1: next to him, and he says, are you saying is
- 18:55Speaker 1: that shorter? Fuck? I thought we got all of it.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Ash lunges at Mannerheim, but he's held back by the
- 19:04Speaker 1: Orderlys and he's like, fuck you, I'll kill you. One
- 19:07Speaker 1: of the order Leaves is telling him to calm down,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and he's still struggling to break free, and he's like,
- 19:10Speaker 1: how could you you sick bastards. You're all guilty. I'll
- 19:14Speaker 1: kill you all. Yeah, I hope you kill them all.
- 19:18Speaker 1: They force him to the ground and Mannerheim says, to think,
- 19:21Speaker 1: such a wonderful brain dwells in such a barbarian fuck,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and Ash is like, if I'm a barbarian, what the
- 19:29Speaker 1: fuck does that make you? You're all sick humiliating the
- 19:32Speaker 1: dead like that. Mannerheim says, stop being so emotional. Come on,
- 19:36Speaker 1: there's someone I'd like you to meet. It's someone you
- 19:39Speaker 1: know very well. They open a door into a room
- 19:44Speaker 1: that looks like a officey kind of room or something,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and Ash gasps, which is really all he's doing in
- 19:53Speaker 1: this part of the anime, and we see that Alexis
- 19:56Speaker 1: is sitting at the desk. Doctor Mannerheim says, this is
- 20:00Speaker 1: Professor Dawson, the creator of banana Fish, in his new lap. Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 1: So Alexis looks not there at all, like he's not
- 20:10Speaker 1: acknowledging their presence or anything. He's just staring forward, you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: towards the wall basically. And doctor Mannerheim says, how are
- 20:20Speaker 1: you feeling, Professor Alexis, we see is holding some wooden
- 20:25Speaker 1: toy blocks and is still not looking at them, but
- 20:28Speaker 1: he answers, I feel fine, thank you. Ash gasps again
- 20:35Speaker 1: and says it can't be and Mannerheim's like, that's right.
- 20:40Speaker 1: We gave the professor a dose of B one, but
- 20:42Speaker 1: there are still defects with the drug, one being that
- 20:46Speaker 1: after consecutive doses, they actually gave him lots of doses.
- 20:49Speaker 1: By the way, intelligence is greatly compromised, and we can't
- 20:53Speaker 1: have that. If we can control the minds of the
- 20:55Speaker 1: scientists without damaging their intelligence, our project will finally be complete.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Fuck that's where you come in, Ash No. Ash is
- 21:05Speaker 1: stunned motionless for a moment until the orderlies start to
- 21:10Speaker 1: grab him and one of them has a syringe in
- 21:12Speaker 1: his hand. Fuck. So Ash is like struggling now and
- 21:15Speaker 1: he's like, what are you doing? Let go, and they
- 21:18Speaker 1: just stab him in the arm with the syringe. We
- 21:22Speaker 1: get a shot from Ash's perspective as his eyelids begin
- 21:27Speaker 1: to get heavy and close, and we see him falling,
- 21:31Speaker 1: and then it cuts to black and we hear a
- 21:32Speaker 1: crash in the darkness. We hear Mannaheim say, when you awaken,
- 21:37Speaker 1: Ash thinks will no longer exist. Fuck, You'll be an
- 21:41Speaker 1: entirely different being. We then see Ash passed out on
- 21:45Speaker 1: the floor. He actually looks very peaceful, but yeah, and
- 21:48Speaker 1: Mannaheim says, take him away. Okay, stop there for a second,
- 21:52Speaker 1: because this is actually one of my greatest fears. You know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: it might be a fear that a lot of people have,
- 21:58Speaker 1: but like having my identity like stripped away from me
- 22:02Speaker 1: is so fucking scary. Like being a prisoner in my
- 22:05Speaker 1: own mind and having something else that is not inherently me,
- 22:11Speaker 1: or is a version of me that has been forced
- 22:13Speaker 1: into to change, is like that. Like I don't like
- 22:17Speaker 1: that at all. So I if I was in Ash's position,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I mean I'd be scared all the time, But in
- 22:23Speaker 1: this particular instance, I like totally feel for him. And
- 22:26Speaker 1: I am terrified for him now, especially because we already
- 22:30Speaker 1: saw something like this happened to Shorter, so we know
- 22:33Speaker 1: the anime is not above destroying people with banana fish.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I mean they also got a lexus too, so yay, right,
- 22:40Speaker 1: who cares? I don't know. Help. So now we go
- 22:43Speaker 1: to Ag, who is like walking down the street looking
- 22:45Speaker 1: really sweaty for some reason and depressed obviously, and he
- 22:49Speaker 1: remembers yue Lung saying Ash is dead. There's nowhere for
- 22:54Speaker 1: you to go. He stops and kind of like grabs
- 22:58Speaker 1: onto like a lamppost to bounce went to himself. I
- 23:00Speaker 1: think he puts his hand over his face. He's kind
- 23:03Speaker 1: of slumped over, and we hear someone say you okay,
- 23:06Speaker 1: you look sick. AG looks up and there are these
- 23:09Speaker 1: two like adult men, like maybe in their thirties or forties,
- 23:13Speaker 1: like towering over him, and the first guy says, want
- 23:18Speaker 1: us to take you home. Ag kind of exhales sharply
- 23:22Speaker 1: and he's like, no, thank you, I'm fine. He starts
- 23:25Speaker 1: to walk away, and we see like how huge these
- 23:30Speaker 1: men are compared to him, because I mean, Age's pretty small.
- 23:35Speaker 1: The first guy puts his hand on AG's shoulder and
- 23:37Speaker 1: he's like, oh, come on, what the fuck. The second
- 23:41Speaker 1: guy grabs him by the wrist and Age's like stop it.
- 23:44Speaker 1: First guy's like easy now and he covers his mouth
- 23:47Speaker 1: fuck and then like out of nowhere, the second guy
- 23:51Speaker 1: is hit in the head with Sing's rope dark yay,
- 23:54Speaker 1: and the first guy's like what the fuck? Sing is like,
- 23:57Speaker 1: kidnapping is gonna cost you? Oh, second guy says, who
- 24:02Speaker 1: the hell are you. The first guy's like, wait, that's Sing,
- 24:06Speaker 1: the boss of the Chinese gang. Let's go, and they
- 24:08Speaker 1: just run off because they're fucking cowards and Sings like assholes.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Ag just fucking collapses. At that point, Sing runs over
- 24:18Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, are you okay. We go back
- 24:21Speaker 1: to Ash, who is this is bad on an operating
- 24:24Speaker 1: table like I guess under general anesthesia or whatever, and
- 24:29Speaker 1: doctor Mannerheim says, how's the subject and one of the
- 24:33Speaker 1: doctors is like, in stable condition. Doctor Mannerheim says okay now,
- 24:38Speaker 1: and then we hear a voice like cut in from
- 24:41Speaker 1: outside of the room say sir, you can't go in there,
- 24:44Speaker 1: there's an operation in progress. They look over confused and
- 24:48Speaker 1: it's fucking Goalsine and Gregory and Mannerheim's like, mister golezin.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Golsine says, what the hell is going on here? What
- 24:58Speaker 1: are you planning on doing? I guess ya. Mannerheim looks stressed,
- 25:03Speaker 1: and he's like, I I this is necessary for the
- 25:07Speaker 1: completion of B one to prevent the intelligence from Golsing
- 25:11Speaker 1: cuts him off. You can experiment on anyone else but him.
- 25:15Speaker 1: I will not allow this boy to be used in
- 25:17Speaker 1: that experiment. At this point, those two FBI guys walk
- 25:20Speaker 1: in and the first one says, what's all the commotion.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I see you came back in a hurry, and Golsing's like,
- 25:27Speaker 1: who are you? And the first FBI guy says, we're
- 25:30Speaker 1: from the CIA. Oh they're a CIA. That's not good.
- 25:35Speaker 1: I mean it wasn't good when they were FBI either,
- 25:38Speaker 1: but now we know. Golsing says, I see Kippert has
- 25:42Speaker 1: contacts there, if I remember correctly, But stay out of this, jeez,
- 25:47Speaker 1: talk that way to the CIA. So the first CIA
- 25:49Speaker 1: guy says, sorry, but we can't do that. The Corsican
- 25:53Speaker 1: Foundation is vicially dismissing you. What baron, Isaac Zakharav will
- 25:58Speaker 1: take over your post. You see, you've fallen from power.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Goalsane looks pissed off and he's like, I created this project.
- 26:05Speaker 1: The first CIA guy says, the situation has changed. The
- 26:09Speaker 1: project is moving forward on its own and no one
- 26:11Speaker 1: can turn it back. Now, we can't allow anything to
- 26:13Speaker 1: go wrong, and then he looks over at Mannerheim and
- 26:16Speaker 1: says the operation is off. Oh oh okay, yay. Matterheim
- 26:21Speaker 1: is like, why everything's already now that we're all clear.
- 26:26Speaker 1: CIA guy cuts him off and says, doctor, this applies
- 26:30Speaker 1: to you too. You don't have permission to do this.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Oh cool, gay bureaucracy. CIA guy too. Oh my god.
- 26:36Speaker 1: He finally talks, says, mister Kipperd is in charge. Now
- 26:40Speaker 1: you need to talk to him before you do anything,
- 26:42Speaker 1: and Golsian says, when will the boy wake up? Mannerheim
- 26:46Speaker 1: says in about an hour. We now cut to a
- 26:50Speaker 1: close up side view of Ash asleep but clearly no
- 26:53Speaker 1: longer on the operating table, and he starts to come too.
- 26:57Speaker 1: When he opens his eyes slowly, he kind of makes
- 27:00Speaker 1: like a sound that you make if you were waking up,
- 27:03Speaker 1: and maybe you're in pain a little bit, and we
- 27:06Speaker 1: hear Dino say, look at you pitiful. Oh fuck. Ash
- 27:13Speaker 1: gasps his eyes widened as he realizes that Dino is
- 27:16Speaker 1: standing over him, which I feel like this is probably
- 27:21Speaker 1: something that has happened before, and it's stressing me out anyway.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Golzine says, you were so vigorous when you stormed off.
- 27:29Speaker 1: What a disgrace you are now? Jesus he was drugged.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Ash is kind of sitting up partially now and he
- 27:36Speaker 1: manages to scowl at him, and Dino says, too numb
- 27:40Speaker 1: to even speak. He then grabs Ash by the throat
- 27:43Speaker 1: and lifts him up towards him, and honestly, he looks
- 27:47Speaker 1: so big and imposing compared to Ash. Anyway, He continues,
- 27:53Speaker 1: you're worthless now that you're weak. Let them cut you
- 27:56Speaker 1: to pieces. Ash struggles to raise his hand and to
- 28:00Speaker 1: try to get him off of him, and he's still
- 28:04Speaker 1: glaring but also clearly distressed, and Dino says, I see
- 28:09Speaker 1: you still have enough life in you to clear back
- 28:11Speaker 1: at me, then survive, pull yourself back up so I
- 28:14Speaker 1: can corner you and hunt you down. Dino finally let's
- 28:19Speaker 1: go of Ash, who falls onto the floor, coughing and gasping,
- 28:23Speaker 1: and he walks towards the door, and he says don't
- 28:27Speaker 1: think you can run away from me. He shuts the door,
- 28:30Speaker 1: leaving Ash alone in the dark on the floor. Yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 1: I am just very quickly. Fucking It's clear that Ash
- 28:41Speaker 1: is kind of scared of Dino, which he should be,
- 28:44Speaker 1: and this is really upsetting honestly, Like, I don't know.
- 28:48Speaker 1: I mean, I'm super glad he saved him. He fucking
- 28:51Speaker 1: saved his life there, but had to be Dino. Huh. Anyway,
- 28:58Speaker 1: we go to some kind of undefined featureless place and
- 29:03Speaker 1: it is snowing. Ash is standing off in the distance
- 29:08Speaker 1: and Ag is surprised to see him. Ash smiles at Ag,
- 29:13Speaker 1: and then he kind of turns and starts to walk away,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and Ag says, where are you going? He reaches out
- 29:19Speaker 1: for him Ash Ash Ag wakes up mid reach and
- 29:25Speaker 1: he winces in pain as he's been reaching with his
- 29:27Speaker 1: hand that was injured, which is now bandaged by the way,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and he's laying in a bed. He looks at his
- 29:32Speaker 1: hand and thinks, who did this? We hear saying say
- 29:37Speaker 1: are you awake? Now? AG looks surprised and he sits
- 29:41Speaker 1: up and he's like you Sing says, don't worry U.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Alung doesn't know he walks over and he sits down
- 29:48Speaker 1: on a chair that's like backwards, so he's sitting on
- 29:50Speaker 1: the chair backwards next to the bed, which makes him
- 29:52Speaker 1: like totally cool by the way, and he says, I'm
- 29:55Speaker 1: sing Su Ling the boss of Chinatown. AG's like, then
- 30:00Speaker 1: you're on a Shorter's crew. Singh says, you knew him.
- 30:04Speaker 1: AG looks away sadly, and Singh continues, you said you
- 30:08Speaker 1: were Ash's friend when we were locked up? Did Ash
- 30:11Speaker 1: really kill Shorter? If you know, tell me. I want
- 30:15Speaker 1: to know the truth. AG, who is still not looking
- 30:18Speaker 1: at him, says, if I tell you, what are you
- 30:21Speaker 1: gonna do? Sing is like nothing, really, Ash is already
- 30:25Speaker 1: dead anyways. AG says, no, Ash isn't dead. At this,
- 30:30Speaker 1: sing kind of chuckles and he says you think so too,
- 30:34Speaker 1: That incredibly tough guy would never die that easily. It's
- 30:37Speaker 1: way too fishy. And Age's like, do you work for
- 30:41Speaker 1: you a loon? Singh says, no way, My boss is Shorter,
- 30:45Speaker 1: nobody else. AG's like, do you plan to fight Ash?
- 30:50Speaker 1: Sing says, I have to when a boss is killed.
- 30:53Speaker 1: It's the next in lines responsibility to get revenge. Besides,
- 30:57Speaker 1: Shorter was Ash's best friend. He kind of looks down
- 31:01Speaker 1: and he's like, and he killed him, and AG's like
- 31:05Speaker 1: he didn't have a choice, saying kind of gasps this.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Come on, say you must have known something was up
- 31:11Speaker 1: with that, and AG continues, it's my fault. It's all
- 31:15Speaker 1: my fault. We now see the late afternoons skyline and
- 31:21Speaker 1: Sun through a window and Max and Shunichi, and I'm
- 31:25Speaker 1: not really sure who this guy is. I think it's
- 31:28Speaker 1: the scruffy guy that was with Max when he was
- 31:33Speaker 1: trying to get that newsweek deal in the last episode,
- 31:36Speaker 1: but I'm not one hundred percent sure because it also
- 31:38Speaker 1: kind of looks like George. I don't know why. I
- 31:40Speaker 1: don't know who this is, but it's someone. I'm just
- 31:42Speaker 1: gonna call him that guy, Okay. Anyway, So that guy
- 31:47Speaker 1: says the National Mental Health Institute is funded by the
- 31:50Speaker 1: public and private sector, but the Corsican Foundation is who
- 31:54Speaker 1: actually runs it. Kipperd's name is on the list of investors.
- 31:58Speaker 1: He hands a tablet over Max, which I guess has
- 32:00Speaker 1: the information on it, and Max, who is now looking
- 32:03Speaker 1: at the tablet, says found it in twenty twelve to
- 32:06Speaker 1: treat criminals with mental disorders. He kind of smirks, how respectable?
- 32:12Speaker 1: If Ash is still there, how do we get in?
- 32:14Speaker 1: And that guy says, actually, I have a good idea.
- 32:18Speaker 1: There's a facility tour once a month, and it happens
- 32:21Speaker 1: to be the day after tomorrow. Max smiles. We now
- 32:26Speaker 1: see Yue Lung talking on the phone, and the voice
- 32:29Speaker 1: on the phone line says, we found Agi Okamura. He's
- 32:33Speaker 1: with Singh Su Ling. Yue Lung says, see the voice
- 32:38Speaker 1: on the phone says, it seems like Dino Goldzin visited
- 32:42Speaker 1: the National Mental Health Institute. Yue Lung's like, he did,
- 32:46Speaker 1: stay on the lookout, keep your eyes on, singing AG
- 32:49Speaker 1: two and he hangs up and thinks that's saying what
- 32:53Speaker 1: a troublesome boy. He is sticking his nose into everything.
- 32:56Speaker 1: We see Ash laying on the bed in I guess
- 33:00Speaker 1: his room, and he hears the door open and it's
- 33:03Speaker 1: an orderly bring him food which kind of looks like
- 33:06Speaker 1: water or milk maybe and some bread I guess, which
- 33:09Speaker 1: just great. Ash says, when's the operation? And the Orderly's like,
- 33:15Speaker 1: who knows, not tomorrow though, that's when the monthly public
- 33:18Speaker 1: tour is held. He kind of sets the food down
- 33:20Speaker 1: on like a little tabley thing, and Ash's like, hmmm.
- 33:23Speaker 1: The orderly says, but don't get any ideas this place
- 33:26Speaker 1: has the latest security system. Just give it up already.
- 33:30Speaker 1: He starts walking to the door and he says, you'll
- 33:33Speaker 1: be locked up for like three hundred years even if
- 33:35Speaker 1: you do survive, and he leaves cheese. Poor Ash. Ash
- 33:40Speaker 1: kind of says hmm, and then we cut to Dino
- 33:43Speaker 1: and some guy in an office. The guy says, so,
- 33:49Speaker 1: how are things going with the drug? Dino's like, please,
- 33:53Speaker 1: don't worry. We'll be able to execute the plan early
- 33:55Speaker 1: next year. I don't know exactly when this is. I
- 33:58Speaker 1: know that it's at least November, so it's possible that
- 34:01Speaker 1: early next year is only in like two months, or
- 34:04Speaker 1: maybe there's been more time that has passed, and in
- 34:06Speaker 1: that case, early next year could be a year away.
- 34:08Speaker 1: But I'm assuming we're towards the end of the year,
- 34:13Speaker 1: I guess anyway. The guy who has kind of slicked
- 34:16Speaker 1: back black hair and a beard and a mustache says,
- 34:20Speaker 1: we couldn't have realized this project without you. Our foundation
- 34:23Speaker 1: has a strong grip on the US government now and
- 34:25Speaker 1: that's all thanks to you. But what a petty mistake
- 34:29Speaker 1: you've made, Dino says, forgive me. My guy is like,
- 34:33Speaker 1: I've just been appointed to do this post, so I'll
- 34:37Speaker 1: need your assistance for the time being. I think this
- 34:40Speaker 1: is Isaac Zekrov, maybe because he's the one who's been appointed,
- 34:44Speaker 1: So I guess that's who this guy is. And Dino says,
- 34:47Speaker 1: I would gladly do anything to be of use. That's
- 34:49Speaker 1: very kind of him, especially considering the situation. We owed
- 34:53Speaker 1: to doctor Mannerheim, who is with four other doctors standing
- 34:57Speaker 1: in front of a large crowd in the institut, and
- 35:00Speaker 1: he says, welcome everyone. There is much concern over the
- 35:04Speaker 1: current high crime rate in our nation. It pains me
- 35:07Speaker 1: to think of it. Max and Shunichi are there watching,
- 35:10Speaker 1: and Shunichi quietly to Max says he has a way
- 35:13Speaker 1: with words. Not so much in the anime, but I understand.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Max thinks Colesine was the one who put him in charge,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and then out loud, he says, I have a bad
- 35:22Speaker 1: feeling about him. We go now to Ash, who is
- 35:25Speaker 1: sitting on the bed, because I mean, what else can
- 35:27Speaker 1: he really do in this room? And he looks up
- 35:31Speaker 1: kind of determines fuck. We cut to the kind of
- 35:36Speaker 1: security monitor room with all the security monitors, obviously, and
- 35:41Speaker 1: there's like a bunch of security guards watching them, because
- 35:43Speaker 1: that's what you do when you monitor security cameras. I
- 35:46Speaker 1: guess Ash is staring directly into the camera and we
- 35:51Speaker 1: are seeing it in the monitor room, and one of
- 35:54Speaker 1: the security guards is like, huh no, Ash, don't do that.
- 36:00Speaker 1: He has been staring rather sternly and intently into the
- 36:04Speaker 1: camera for a little while now, and then he just
- 36:09Speaker 1: flips and he's like, Hi, how's everybody doing you peeping?
- 36:14Speaker 1: Tom's having fun. He is now posed rather suggestively, and
- 36:18Speaker 1: he says, are you tired of working? God? Damn it, Ash,
- 36:22Speaker 1: please stop, It's not too late. He poses in multiple
- 36:29Speaker 1: suggestive poses and continues, I was actually a pretty famous
- 36:34Speaker 1: singer out in Times Square. The guards are staring in
- 36:38Speaker 1: other confusion right now, hold on. I know this is
- 36:41Speaker 1: a weird place to stop, but I want you to
- 36:43Speaker 1: understand this. This does not work in the twenty tens
- 36:47Speaker 1: because the Time Square that you would be familiar with now,
- 36:51Speaker 1: the very bright, touristy, crowded everything e Times Square that
- 36:58Speaker 1: exists now, did not exist in the nineteen eighties. In
- 37:01Speaker 1: the nineteen eighties. This was basically a red light districts.
- 37:05Speaker 1: I mean, not exactly, but there were all of these
- 37:07Speaker 1: big theaters and the city was just falling apart. So
- 37:12Speaker 1: they were just showing like X rated movies and peep shows,
- 37:16Speaker 1: and there was prostitution going on. And apparently in nineteen
- 37:20Speaker 1: eighty one, the Rolling Stone called the forty second Street
- 37:23Speaker 1: Times Square block the sleaziest block in the nation. Further,
- 37:28Speaker 1: in nineteen eighty four, there were twenty three hundred crimes
- 37:31Speaker 1: that year, and twenty percent of them were felonies. So basically,
- 37:35Speaker 1: he is telling them very specifically what he's doing by
- 37:39Speaker 1: saying Times Square and it is not glamorous. It is sleazy.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Fuck no, Ash, no, don't do this anyway, Let's continue.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to keep this straight, but I don't
- 37:56Speaker 1: know how long I can keep from laughing, So let's
- 37:59Speaker 1: find out. Anyway. Ash is now rubbing his shoulders suggestively,
- 38:04Speaker 1: and he says, I'm going to sing you with special
- 38:07Speaker 1: song today. He kind of winks and we get like
- 38:09Speaker 1: a little star that comes on the screen. We just
- 38:12Speaker 1: happened a couple of times. I don't know how he
- 38:14Speaker 1: does that, but it's cool anyway. He doesn't really sing
- 38:18Speaker 1: a song so much as chant one, which is one
- 38:20Speaker 1: of the failures I think of the anime. But it's
- 38:27Speaker 1: suggestive and this was only rated like thirteen plus on Amazon,
- 38:33Speaker 1: which I think is ridiculous. And I guess I'm gonna
- 38:35Speaker 1: tell you the lyrics of the song, even though I
- 38:37Speaker 1: really don't want to, and I had told myself I
- 38:40Speaker 1: wasn't going to anyway, he says. He says, I'm a
- 38:44Speaker 1: sweet candy bar. I melt like honey in your mouth.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Come over, eat me up, savor me with your mouth.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Somebody stop him. The guards stare at him, dumbfounded. They
- 38:58Speaker 1: also look like they might be bled, but I'm hoping
- 39:01Speaker 1: that they're just blushing from secondhand embarrassment like I am,
- 39:05Speaker 1: because I am embarrassed for him, and also I am
- 39:08Speaker 1: embarrassed for myself to be watching this. Anyway, He continues,
- 39:12Speaker 1: lick me, suck me. Okay. He's kind of moaning here,
- 39:16Speaker 1: and he has his hand on his chest under his shirt,
- 39:19Speaker 1: and he says, I'm beginning to feel so turned on.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I haven't gone any in so long. I'm doing a
- 39:26Speaker 1: very bad job with this. One of the security guards
- 39:28Speaker 1: is like, what's he thinking? Another one says, has he
- 39:32Speaker 1: gone crazy? Ash continues talking about how he's a sweet
- 39:37Speaker 1: and tasty candy bar, and then he throws a sheet
- 39:41Speaker 1: from the bed over the camera. Why didn't you just
- 39:45Speaker 1: do that in the first place? The second security guard
- 39:49Speaker 1: says that punk, and the third one's like, damn it,
- 39:51Speaker 1: I'll handle this and he walks off. Now that he
- 39:54Speaker 1: is off camera, he grips his injured side and thinks,
- 40:00Speaker 1: will my body hold out? I can't exactly tell how
- 40:03Speaker 1: weak I am right now. I'm so sorry Ash for everything.
- 40:07Speaker 1: He thinks of Golding choking him. Just you wait and see,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I'll get out of here alive. At this point, the
- 40:13Speaker 1: security guard opens the door with his gun raised and
- 40:15Speaker 1: Ash stands. Security guard says show time's over and Ashes like,
- 40:21Speaker 1: where's my candy bar? The security guard says, shut the
- 40:26Speaker 1: hell up, or I'll blow your brains out. Ash looks
- 40:29Speaker 1: disappointed and he's like, damn, I thought that's why you came. Ah.
- 40:36Speaker 1: He kind of shifts on the bed and crosses his
- 40:38Speaker 1: legs and says, everyone else always really liked it. They
- 40:42Speaker 1: said my tongue was like velvet, and he licks his
- 40:47Speaker 1: lips and security guard gults no. Ash no, please stop anyway,
- 40:54Speaker 1: he continues, no one can see us. Now, why don't
- 40:58Speaker 1: you give it a try? He pushes back his hair.
- 41:02Speaker 1: You know, I can send you to heaven in five minutes. Shit.
- 41:07Speaker 1: The security guard like half chuckles, and he's like, well,
- 41:11Speaker 1: I can't see why not. Really, you can't see why not.
- 41:16Speaker 1: And the door is closing, like he's closing the door
- 41:20Speaker 1: and ash we see his face falling as he's beginning
- 41:23Speaker 1: to drop the act and he says, okay, yeah, yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 1: that happens anyway. Anyway. We cut to the hall with
- 41:34Speaker 1: doctor Mannerheim and Zakarrev and Goalzeine, and Mannerheim says, welcome,
- 41:39Speaker 1: Baron Zakariv. Zakrev's like, forgive my sudden visit, but I
- 41:43Speaker 1: wanted to see for myself what you've accomplished. And Manorheim's like,
- 41:47Speaker 1: of course, come this way. They start to walk off,
- 41:50Speaker 1: but Goalsine pauses as he looks down the hall and
- 41:53Speaker 1: he sees the touring group as they're passing at the
- 41:57Speaker 1: next intersection, and he sees me since Shunichi. Oh fuck.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Zakarrev calls out to him something wrong. Call Scene's like no,
- 42:09Speaker 1: he's not gonna tell them He's just gonna let this
- 42:11Speaker 1: fall apart. We cut back to ash Win saying in
- 42:15Speaker 1: pain awesome as he picks up a key card. We
- 42:18Speaker 1: don't really see the entire scene, but he picks up
- 42:21Speaker 1: a key card and he puts a gun in his
- 42:23Speaker 1: waistband and he says, I told you I'd sent you
- 42:26Speaker 1: to heaven in five minutes. Fuck yeah, And then we
- 42:30Speaker 1: see the guard who is super dead on the floor
- 42:33Speaker 1: and Ash walks out of the room. We go to
- 42:36Speaker 1: the title card the Garden of Eden, and let me
- 42:39Speaker 1: go to the ending theme Yay. Closing thoughts, I guess,
- 42:43Speaker 1: how did you fare? How did you deal with that?
- 42:45Speaker 1: Are you upset that this exists? That this piece of
- 42:50Speaker 1: media exists? Now? I have a friend who I asked
- 42:55Speaker 1: to watch this I mean not this episode specifically, but
- 42:59Speaker 1: the show, and he has not gotten past this episode.
- 43:02Speaker 1: And he never said that that was the reason he
- 43:04Speaker 1: hasn't watched it anymore, But I think it was because
- 43:07Speaker 1: he called me like right after to ask me what
- 43:09Speaker 1: the fuck my problem was basically and ask me how
- 43:12Speaker 1: I could like this character and grill me on it.
- 43:15Speaker 1: So I know that it's not just me that is
- 43:18Speaker 1: uncomfortable with Ash doing whatever that was. No, no, let's
- 43:24Speaker 1: just say it. Because we're all adults offering to give
- 43:27Speaker 1: the guards a blowjob. That's what's going on. It was
- 43:32Speaker 1: really strange to read, especially as a very very asexual person.
- 43:37Speaker 1: It just was like, I don't know, guys, I don't
- 43:41Speaker 1: know how that worked, honestly, I mean again, really really asexual.
- 43:46Speaker 1: I don't know if that works. I don't think it does.
- 43:49Speaker 1: But yeah, it happened, now, you know. But really what
- 43:55Speaker 1: we need to talk about is the kind of duality, right,
- 44:00Speaker 1: I guess it's not duality, but like the difference in
- 44:02Speaker 1: techniques which happened in this episode. Now we missed a
- 44:06Speaker 1: little bit of what Agy had done to try to
- 44:09Speaker 1: escape in the manga. You know, he faked an illness.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I think he tried like five times to escape. But
- 44:17Speaker 1: they both escape in the same episode using very different
- 44:21Speaker 1: techniques obviously. So first of all, it's important to acknowledge
- 44:27Speaker 1: that we know that it's not that Akimi Yoshta couldn't
- 44:30Speaker 1: think of having Ash fake an illness or something because
- 44:35Speaker 1: Ag did that. It's that this seemed like the most
- 44:39Speaker 1: ash thing to do, and it kind of is right.
- 44:43Speaker 1: It plays to two of his strengths murder and being
- 44:48Speaker 1: a sex object, which are like two things he really despises.
- 44:54Speaker 1: So yeah, it gets him out, but at what costs?
- 45:00Speaker 1: I kind of want to say, how I feel like
- 45:02Speaker 1: this kind of plays into one of the major themes
- 45:05Speaker 1: of Banana Fish, which is bodily autonomy, which is something
- 45:09Speaker 1: that Ash throughout the anime is trying to get back,
- 45:14Speaker 1: like he's trying to regain or gain because fucking it's
- 45:18Speaker 1: been really long time gain his autonomy and his freedom
- 45:23Speaker 1: from these people who are, you know, deciding what happens
- 45:28Speaker 1: to him constantly. So I'm sure that this wasn't a
- 45:35Speaker 1: really fun the situation for him, you know. But we'll
- 45:38Speaker 1: talk more about like autonomy and stuff kind of going forward,
- 45:42Speaker 1: but I just wanted to kind of mention it now.
- 45:44Speaker 1: And also I think I probably pointed this out, but
- 45:48Speaker 1: I really appreciate characters who just don't have any shame. Basically,
- 45:54Speaker 1: like Ash isn't someone who's sticking to a sense of pride.
- 45:57Speaker 1: He does have, in my opinion, very concrete morals. He
- 46:02Speaker 1: is just choosing not to follow them, which is kind
- 46:04Speaker 1: of sad, really sad actually, but it's necessary for him
- 46:10Speaker 1: to survive at this point. So, I mean, we know
- 46:15Speaker 1: he is pretty disgusted by sex, honestly, and we'll talk
- 46:21Speaker 1: more about that in episode seventeen through nineteen, maybe twenty two.
- 46:27Speaker 1: So this couldn't have been a good time for him.
- 46:31Speaker 1: But often he's had to do things that he wouldn't
- 46:37Speaker 1: do in ideal situations. And I don't think we've had
- 46:40Speaker 1: a character who is able to just kind of push
- 46:42Speaker 1: their pride aside as much as this, except for maybe
- 46:46Speaker 1: like Dengi in Chainsaw Man, which is you know, like
- 46:48Speaker 1: when we first started this podcast, or me or whoever
- 46:51Speaker 1: started it, it was me, because you know, Dengi would
- 46:54Speaker 1: just do whatever he could for money to survive, and
- 46:57Speaker 1: I mean that included eating a cigarette because someone would
- 47:01Speaker 1: pay him to do that, and selling his eyes and
- 47:04Speaker 1: his testicles stuff like that. But I think the only
- 47:07Speaker 1: other time we've seen kind of a character recently do
- 47:12Speaker 1: anything like regardless of their shame was Suberu when he
- 47:16Speaker 1: was about to, I guess kiss or lick Priscilla's feet.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I can't remember right now, and I forgot to check back,
- 47:22Speaker 1: but actually that didn't work out for him. That was
- 47:26Speaker 1: showing us the opposite that you can't just do whatever
- 47:30Speaker 1: you know which, Eh, I'm more for the sometimes you
- 47:34Speaker 1: need to do what you need to do to survive.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Unfortunately that attitude makes you really fucked up sometimes, but alive,
- 47:44Speaker 1: you know, yay, alive ashes alive still really really fucked
- 47:48Speaker 1: up yay. So I just wanted to interject some of
- 47:53Speaker 1: that because I know this episode is ridiculous, but it
- 47:56Speaker 1: is also incredibly sad and thoroughly upsetting, so yeay y.
- 48:04Speaker 1: When I first watched this, I was kind of taken
- 48:07Speaker 1: aback by, you know, embarrassment, as I said earlier, for
- 48:12Speaker 1: myself to be watching this piece of media. But I
- 48:15Speaker 1: am significantly less embarrassed now after kind of mulling over
- 48:20Speaker 1: all of these implications. This has been a really fun
- 48:24Speaker 1: show and manga for me to analyze, which isn't something
- 48:27Speaker 1: I normally do honestly. I mean maybe you're saying, but
- 48:30Speaker 1: you do that because we're doing this podcast, but I
- 48:34Speaker 1: don't normally do it on this level. The only other
- 48:36Speaker 1: thing we've done that I've like sat and been like,
- 48:38Speaker 1: what does this all mean? Is we zero? And I
- 48:43Speaker 1: mean there's only a couple of other animes that I've
- 48:45Speaker 1: felt the need to just be like, what are we
- 48:47Speaker 1: trying to say here, So I really appreciate this anime
- 48:52Speaker 1: for providing me with enough dense characterization to kind of
- 48:57Speaker 1: have to parse through it, if that makes sense. Now
- 49:00Speaker 1: that that's out of the way, there are a couple
- 49:02Speaker 1: other things I wanted to talk to you about in
- 49:03Speaker 1: this episode that were kind of cut from the manga
- 49:05Speaker 1: that I think really kind of dumped down the anime
- 49:10Speaker 1: or kind of cheapened things. One of them, and kind
- 49:12Speaker 1: of the biggest, was when doctor Mannerheim was talking to
- 49:16Speaker 1: Ash in the scary place with all the brains, and
- 49:19Speaker 1: Ash was like, that's human experimentation. There was a really nice,
- 49:24Speaker 1: kind of long ish not really but you know, a
- 49:26Speaker 1: couple of pages or panels or whatever of conversation between
- 49:32Speaker 1: him and Mannerheim about what this means and about how
- 49:37Speaker 1: they are experimenting on criminals against their will. And instead
- 49:42Speaker 1: of Ash saying something like I thought that only happened
- 49:44Speaker 1: in like movies and stuff like that, he basically compares
- 49:48Speaker 1: him to a Nazi. But Mannerheim himself says like, should
- 49:52Speaker 1: we just not use you know, scientific advances that came
- 49:56Speaker 1: out of like the Holocaust and stuff, which is yeay, awesome,
- 50:01Speaker 1: Just what I want to hear. Yeah, and Ash basically
- 50:03Speaker 1: calls him a Nazi, which fucking is awesome. And remember
- 50:08Speaker 1: this kid is supposed to be really intelligent and really
- 50:11Speaker 1: well informed, so I'm not a huge fan of having
- 50:14Speaker 1: that stuff removed. Oh and I think that this wasn't
- 50:18Speaker 1: very clear because when I watched it originally, I was like,
- 50:23Speaker 1: why the fuck did they need to sedate him to
- 50:26Speaker 1: give him banana fish? Right? Why don't they just give
- 50:29Speaker 1: him banana fish? It doesn't really make sense. It just
- 50:32Speaker 1: seems like it's just convenience, so that goalsing can step in.
- 50:35Speaker 1: So in the manga, there's actually a reason that this
- 50:38Speaker 1: happens like this. So I screenshoted it for you, so
- 50:44Speaker 1: I just gotta find it. Basically, doctor Mannerheim says, and
- 50:49Speaker 1: I'll just give it to you. You're about to undergo
- 50:52Speaker 1: an operation whereby you will cease to be yourself. Ukranium
- 50:56Speaker 1: will be carefully removed, and electrodes will be implanted in
- 50:58Speaker 1: every part of your cerebral tissue. Then the bony plates
- 51:02Speaker 1: of your skull will be replaced with a molded plastic
- 51:04Speaker 1: container with ports for oxygen, nutrients, and most importantly data.
- 51:09Speaker 1: In this new durable casing, we will be able to
- 51:12Speaker 1: make our most accurate studies yet on the effect of
- 51:15Speaker 1: B one on a living brain. Your identity as Ashlings
- 51:18Speaker 1: will be lost in the process, It's true, but before
- 51:21Speaker 1: you sleep, think of the future of a new being
- 51:24Speaker 1: and its limitless potential. So I think that that is
- 51:28Speaker 1: absolutely terrifying, so much more terrifying than the way it
- 51:31Speaker 1: was explained in the anime. And I wish that was
- 51:33Speaker 1: in there because that is infinitely scarier than him just
- 51:37Speaker 1: being injected with banana fish. Well, they're gonna do that,
- 51:40Speaker 1: but first they're gonna do all sorts of terrible things,
- 51:43Speaker 1: so they obviously need him to be operated on before
- 51:46Speaker 1: they can give it to him. So there you go.
- 51:48Speaker 1: That's the reason. Honestly, that might be it. Yeah, I
- 51:52Speaker 1: think that's it. So I hope that you. I mean,
- 51:57Speaker 1: let's face it, if you were still here after episode fifteen,
- 52:02Speaker 1: you're pretty fucking weird, right. You can't like this and
- 52:06Speaker 1: be a normal person, right, I mean maybe you can.
- 52:09Speaker 1: Maybe I'm just weird, and that's how I'm rationalizing this.
- 52:12Speaker 1: I don't really know, but I'm pretty impressed that you
- 52:15Speaker 1: stuck it out through episode fifteen and you came to
- 52:17Speaker 1: even listen to me talk about it because it was rough.
- 52:23Speaker 1: I can promise you that there's not anything else quite
- 52:25Speaker 1: like this in the show. I can't promise you that
- 52:28Speaker 1: there won't be anything worse, because there will be, but
- 52:32Speaker 1: there probably won't be any more ash chanting about candy bars,
- 52:36Speaker 1: thank god, because I don't think I could handle it.
- 52:40Speaker 1: So anyway, thank you for listening to me laugh my
- 52:45Speaker 1: way through that. And I hope you have a really
- 52:48Speaker 1: good whatever, and I'll probably see you next time unless
- 52:52Speaker 1: the world ends, which you never know, but anyway, later
- 52:55Speaker 1: weeps
